What can you carry on a plane. What can you take with you in hand luggage on the plane. Familiarization with the requirements of a particular air carrier

List of allowed and prohibited items that you can take on a plane.

There are a large number of rules for carrying luggage. All rules are slightly different depending on the ticket class and the airline. But in general, the requirements for the transportation of bags that are checked in as baggage are the same.

As mentioned above, the norms are slightly different for the classes. If you collect things and will fly to another country, then follow these rules and regulations:

  • The total size of a suitcase that can be carried free of charge is 158 cm, weighing 20 kg. It needs to sum the height, width and length. If the size is exceeded, then you will have to pay extra.
  • Before checking in your baggage, you should attach a tag with your data to it. Such tags can be taken at the place of baggage check-in.
  • Reagents and radioactive substances cannot be handed over for transportation. You can take alcohol in your luggage, but not more than 5 liters. You will also have to check in liquids and medicines in bottles if their volume exceeds 100 ml.

How many kg of luggage and hand luggage can I take on a plane?

The maximum weight of hand luggage is up to 10 kg. The dimensions of the bag must not exceed 110 cm. If the bag is larger, you will have to divide the luggage into parts and put it in checked baggage.

For hand luggage, it is allowed to take a bag measuring 20 by 40 and 55 cm. In this case, you should have only one bag. That is, a purse or handbag will have to be put inside a large bag for hand luggage.

Although in many European countries You are allowed to carry several bags and bags with you on the plane. But it’s not worth taking risks and neglecting the rules.

Note! The bag that you will take on the plane should be made of soft fabric, without rigid frame walls.

If you need to take a certain list of items with you on the plane, make sure that they do not include:

  • Razors
  • knives
  • scissors
  • magnetized objects
  • Means for signaling
  • hairspray
  • weapons
  • Acids, alkalis
  • Lighters
  • Alcoholic drinks and corkscrew

It is worth noting that traveling with a baby is not at all easy. There are many subtleties of the flight. Some airlines offer their own car seats, cradles for transporting babies. Ask about it in advance. You can bring your own car seat. Most companies allow you to take a small walking stick on board. If this is a transformer, then it will have to be checked in as luggage.

List of necessary products for children under 2 years old:

  • Baby food
  • Medicines
  • Care products
  • Diapers
  • Disposable diapers

It is worth noting that the maximum amount of liquid that you can take with you to the cabin is 1000 ml. Therefore, the total volume of puree, milk and water should be no more than 1 liter. This should include cream, lotion and other baby skin care products.

If your child is over 2 years old, then it is forbidden to take yogurt, kefir, etc. on board. It is worth giving preference to dry snacks. These are sandwiches, crackers, dried apricots and nuts.

Pregnant girls put on a lot of weight, so it is recommended to take on a plane a change of shoes that do not squeeze your legs. Also, during the flight, try to walk rather than sit. Are you suffering from varicose veins? Take elastic bandages and compression stockings. Bondage will be required to support the abdomen.

List of items:

  • Sachets, in case you vomit
  • Candles with papaverine or other anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Music and a tablet to keep you entertained during your trip
  • Lozenges, they prevent nausea
  • Antipyretics and allergy medications
  • Neck pillow

At different airlines your opinion on this matter. If you have a baby, then almost everyone allows you to take a stroller with you as an addition to your hand luggage. You can bring the baby to the gangway, and then give it to the stewardess. Immediately after arrival, your stroller will be given.

There are some subtleties. If you are carrying a stroller without a child, you will have to pay extra for such luggage. But if with a baby, then the cost of transportation is not charged. We recommend that you ask for a bassinet in advance when booking your tickets. The seats of many airlines require the attachment of car seats and cradles. Check if there are no such chairs, whether you can take your own.

It is worth noting that when checking in the stroller as baggage, it should be packed, as it can get dirty during the flight.

Regarding toys, you should carefully study the information of the airline. You cannot take with you:

  • toy weapon
  • Plastic knives
  • Battery operated toys with light and sound

That is why it is better to take a tablet and pre-download a cartoon or interesting videos. You can also take pencils, an album with you and captivate your baby with drawing. Some European companies give children coloring books and crayons.

When it comes to food, it's quite complicated. Not everyone is satisfied with the menu provided by the airline. Therefore, you will have to bring your own groceries. You are not allowed to take smoked meats, meat and eggs with you. Most often, these products are thrown away during inspection. This is due to the fact that you can transport some kind of virus or pathogens of dangerous diseases to another country.

You can take:

  • crackers
  • Dried fruits
  • nuts
  • Cookie
  • Muesli bars

You are not allowed to take fermented milk and other perishable products with you when flying to another country.

The total volume of liquid should not exceed 1 liter. In this case, all liquid should be packaged in small bottles, with a volume of 100 ml. Of course, this amount of water may not be enough, so take a small empty bottle with you. On many flights, flight attendants go to meet passengers and pour water upon request.

You can take alcohol, but not in hand luggage, but in luggage. Up to 5 liters of alcohol is allowed.

You can take a scooter for a child. It is also better to put it in luggage. To do this, it is not necessary to pack it in a separate bag, it is better to take covers or bags. In some cases, such devices are allowed to be taken in hand luggage. Just remove the frame and put shoe covers on the wheels. Pack everything into a bag or bag. It is better to give a beach umbrella in luggage.

As for the gyro scooters, the situation is not yet entirely clear. In Israel, it is forbidden to carry them at the legislative level. Some Russian airlines carry such devices. But you should call and check in advance. You will also need to bring technical certificate to the device. Of course, take the device and registration certificate with you. If you are not allowed to take it, leave it at the airline's warehouse and pick it up when you arrive home.

Hairdryer in hand luggage, most likely, you are allowed to take it, but this device is hardly necessary. It should be checked in in advance.

You can take sandwiches with you. Just make sure they are eaten before arriving in another country. Sausage can be any, cheese, too, and hard. If you do not plan to eat everything, do not take with you. When passing customs upon arrival in another country, all sandwiches can be seized and thrown away.

Dry cosmetics (shadows, powder, blush, etc.) have no restrictions on transportation, except for their weight. Restrictions apply only to liquids. As in the case of food, the volume of liquid cosmetics in hand luggage must not exceed 100 ml. That is, if a jar of cream has a volume of 250 ml, and the cream itself in it is only 70 ml, it will have to be sent in baggage. In total, no more than 10 bottles can be taken into the salon, the total volume of which should not exceed 1000 ml.

Currently, many creams, shampoos, balms are produced in a special package of "travel" volume, no more than 50-70 ml. You can also stock up on the road with probes, which, provided that their volume does not exceed 0.5-10 ml, are not even counted as liquids by many airlines. And such a small amount can be enough for 2-3 weeks of travel.

In the cargo department, it is allowed to transport perfume products in in large numbers(up to 2 liters), but it must be securely packed. Some companies do not allow transportation of aerosol products such as deodorants. Therefore, check with the company by phone.

You should not check in your laptop. In hand luggage, it is not taken into account and belongs to the category of personal items. Putting it on the luggage rack is not worth it, because of the shaking it can be damaged. Place the device under the seat. You can not turn it on during takeoff and landing due to possible interference.

If you are being treated and you continuously need to take medications, but they are prohibited, take care of the documents. You need a prescription for a medicine, a copy of the medical record and a certificate certified by a seal. Insulin and asthma inhalers are not checked in as hand luggage.

It is forbidden to import psychotropic drugs, which include phenazepam. It is not worth taking it with you. For more information about medications, please contact the airline. It is also advisable to learn about medicines that can be imported into a particular country. You may be let through at our customs and not released in another state due to different lists approved medicines.

What medicines can I take on a plane, can I take Phenazepam?

As you can see, it is worth organizing a trip in advance. This will save you time and nerves.

VIDEO: Transportation rules

Hand luggage is the items that each passenger of an airliner can take into the cabin. Size and weight allowable luggage is determined by the carrier, and these parameters differ significantly for different companies. However, there is a list of things that cannot be taken in hand luggage on an airplane, and everyone needs to know it so that there are no problems during boarding. We bring to your attention the new rules of 2019 regulating the composition of hand luggage and luggage in Russia.

Things that can not be taken into the salon

As in the rules of previous years, passengers are strictly prohibited from carrying any weapons in the cabin of an airliner. The list includes:

  • Firearms and traumatic weapons (pistols, rifles, revolvers, machine guns, machine guns, etc.);
  • Melee weapons (daggers, knives, sabers and swords);
  • Throwing weapons (grenades, knives, bows).

Please note that it is forbidden to take even toy weapons that mimic existing models in reality.

Substances prohibited on board under the new rules

The list of substances prohibited for carriage as cabin baggage includes flammable liquids. These include compounds whose flash point does not exceed 66 degrees: diethyl ether, cyclohexane, benzene, acetone and ethanol, alcohols, various aromatic compounds, turpentine, kerosene. In plain language, varnishes and paints, printer inks, tinctures, esters, sealants, cosmetic lotions, solvents and solvents cannot be taken on board.

The second type of prohibited substances are explosives. They are divided into liquid (nitroglycerin, ethyl nitrate, nitroglycol), gel-like, suspension (ammonium nitrate mixtures), emulsion and solid (tol, hexogen and nitrate).

Radioactive substances are also not allowed in hand luggage. These are mixtures or compositions containing radioactive isotopes (germanium, vanadium, cadmium, selenium, zirconium, molybdenum, rubidium, and others). Accordingly, you will not be allowed on the plane if you take with you isotopes necessary for treatment or diagnostics, or gamma ray logging instruments.

When landing, you are also confiscated oxidizing substances, which may not be combustible, but at the same time provoke and support the combustion of other materials. The list of oxidizing substances unacceptable for carriage in hand luggage includes:

  • Hydrogen peroxide;
  • bleaches;
  • Perchloric acid solution;
  • ammonium chlorate;
  • ammonium bromate;
  • Fertilizers containing ammonium nitrate;
  • Ammonium nitrite and its solutions;
  • Mixtures based on sodium nitrite, potassium nitrate and ammonium salt.

And the last group of substances that cannot be taken into the cabin according to the new rules of 2019 are toxic and infectious substances that, if inhaled, interact with the skin or enter the body through food, can cause death, severe poisoning or illness. This group also includes pathogenic bacteria that are dangerous to the health and life of people and pets.

The procedure for the seizure of prohibited objects

If, during the inspection of hand luggage before boarding, objects and substances prohibited for transportation are found in you, they will be confiscated without fail. In the process of withdrawal, the airport staff will issue an act.

If the confiscated items are on free sale, but cannot be transported in the cabin, they will be given to the mourners or left for storage at the airport.

If a passenger is found to have cartridges or gas weapons without accompanying documents, they will be immediately handed over to the police, and a passenger trying to smuggle objects that are criminally liable for carrying and storing will be removed from the flight and handed over to the internal affairs authorities.

Exceptions to 2019 Rules

When packing your hand luggage, you can put a few things in your bag that are exceptions to the lists listed above:
  • A bottle of vinegar with a volume of not more than half a liter;
  • Alcoholic drinks up to 70% in manufacturer's packaging;
  • Cosmetic aerosols with a volume of not more than 0.5 l;
  • Nail polishes;
  • Lighters and receptacles for their filling (no more than two);
  • One medical thermometer;
  • No more than two kilograms of dry ice for food cooling;
  • 3% hydrogen peroxide in a vial up to 100 ml;
  • One manual tonometer.

Additional airline requirements

Some airlines have tightened the rules for carrying hand luggage, adding potentially dangerous objects to the generally accepted prohibited items, through which a passenger can injure others. These included corkscrews for opening bottles, needles for injections (in the absence of medical indications, confirmed by a certificate), knitting needles and crochet hooks, nail scissors and penknives.

To avoid problems during screening, check the hand luggage rules of the selected company. They are usually published on the airline's website.

Many people are concerned about the question: “Can I take food on a plane?”, Because often the flight can take more than two hours, and on-board meals are not suitable for everyone, despite the proposed choice.

What food is allowed on the plane?

It should be noted right away that food is allowed to be taken on board the aircraft. This applies not only to those products that you bought in duty-free stores, but also to those that you took from home. And below you will learn about detailed list products that can be carried on board and recommendations on how to properly pack these products for quick inspection and ease of use already on the plane.

Many people think about why they need to take food on a plane at all, because they are already well fed there. But not everything is as simple as it might seem, and there are several reasons to take something from your usual food with you.

It turns out that not all air carriers provide meals to their passengers. If we are talking about low-cost budget air transportation, then a flight without food is often practiced there in order to reduce the cost. Considering that even low-cost flights to Asia and Europe can take a long time, not counting the time that will be spent directly at the airport, it is clear that most people will want to have a bite to eat.

Meals on board may not meet your tastes, especially if you are flying on charter flight. But even the choice scheduled flight does not guarantee that the choice of food offered to us will definitely be to your taste and its quantity will be enough to hide the feeling of hunger.

You can also take food on the plane in order to calm your fear of flying and heights. Favorite food, taken with you, allows you not only to satisfy your hunger, but also to distract from bad thoughts and experiences.

What food can you take on a plane?

It all depends directly on the direction of the flight and the requirements of a particular airline. Usually, food prohibited for export includes products of animal origin: cheese, cottage cheese, meat products, etc. For example, at present these products are completely prohibited for import in all countries included in European Union. It does not matter how you cross the border: by train, car, bus or plane.

At the same time, certain products with specific properties fall under the ban. For example, the fruits of Thailand are known for their disgusting smell (especially the durian). Also, at some airports in France, certain varieties of blue cheese are taken away, which have an unpleasant odor.

Those products that are characterized by a jelly-like or pasty state, as well as many products presented in liquid form, also have limitations. These include kefir, yogurt, sauce, liquid curds, pate, jam, jelly, soup, juices, butter, etc. All of these products are usually equated to liquids that have separate requirements. However, drinks on board (coffee, tea, juice, water) are carried by flight attendants, so there is no point in bringing them with you. Although in low cost airlines you will have to pay for them separately.

Has some concessions baby food. It can be taken on board in a volume of no more than 100 ml, if the child is not older than 2 years. But this does not mean that you can take the whole package on board: you are allowed to carry only the volume that may be needed to feed the child during the flight.

What is the best food to take on a plane?

When collecting food, do not forget that it should be just light food, devoid of a pungent smell: you don’t want the surrounding passengers to look at you angrily when you eat a garlic sandwich, do you? It is worth remembering that you can not take on a plane products that quickly deteriorate and change their original smell. In addition, they can cause serious stomach problems. Also, do not take foods that can have a lot of crumbs and cause increased gas formation: eggs, cabbage, broccoli, etc.

It is best to take protein-rich meals on the plane. First of all, it is cheese, nuts, chicken and beef. An excellent choice would be products such as gingerbread, drying, pastries that do not have a liquid cream, various dried fruits, fruits and vegetables (but not too juicy). True, vegetables and fruits are often allowed to be taken in the amount that can be eaten during the flight. That is, you are unlikely to be allowed to transport a few kilograms of cucumbers or tomatoes.

You can take on board canned food, if their volume is not more than 100 ml. Exactly the same situation with fish caviar - it is allowed, but this product belongs to the category of liquids and should not exceed 100 ml. From food on the plane, you can take a salad or regular sandwiches. The main thing is to place them in special transparent containers or transparent plastic bags. This, as a rule, can significantly reduce the baggage screening process.

Concerns about flight safety are forcing air carriers to introduce strict baggage rules on the plane. The list of prohibited items is the same for passengers of all classes, but may vary slightly at airports different countries. The ban also applies to the crew of the liner.

Items prohibited for carriage on an aircraft general order, in some cases you can take it on a flight, having received a special permission from the air carrier.

Permission is requested for the transport of lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 100-160 Wh. This is done through the Call Center or an air carrier representative at check-in.

As an exception, wheelchairs with lithium-ion chargers with a power of more than 160 Wh are allowed. Required requirements:

What happens to seized items

Seized items that are prohibited from being transported on an aircraft, which are of no value, are usually thrown away. If things are important to their owner, there are ways to keep them and get them back.

  1. The easiest option is when prohibited items are found at the front desk. In this case, you can give them to the mourners, leave them in the left-luggage office, or even send them by mail. If prohibited items are found in carry-on baggage, but are allowed to be carried in baggage, they are transferred to baggage.
  2. When unauthorized items are found in carry-on baggage during security screening after passport control they will be confiscated. But you can write an act of withdrawal and leave them for storage at the airport, and get them back upon return. Sometimes representatives of the air carrier can hand over the detected prohibited items in baggage with subsequent receipt on the baggage belt.
  3. When unauthorized items are found in baggage after check-in, the security service will notify the passenger through the airline. They will either be confiscated or offered to pass the passenger again for registration. There is always a chance to tell about the value of a thing and leave it for storage at the airport.
Important! If weapons, ammunition are found without a permit for their transportation, the seized items are handed over to the police, and the passenger is removed from the flight for investigation.

How to avoid unpleasant situations during inspection

  1. Carefully study the rules for carrying things with a particular airline before flying.
  2. Try to leave all liquids, including cosmetics, in your checked-in luggage.
  3. Make sure that you do not have liquid containers larger than 100 milliliters with you. Place the liquids required during the flight in an approved container.
  4. Do not open packages of drinks and spirits from Duty free before leaving the aircraft.
  5. To confirm that the medicines carried on the plane are vital, you need to take a certificate.
  6. If medications contain narcotic components, it is worth taking a recipe in Latin with you.

Compliance with simple rules guarantees passengers safety on board the liner.

Dear visitors of the Aviawiki site! There are so many of your questions that, unfortunately, our specialists do not always have time to answer all of them. As a reminder, we answer questions absolutely free of charge and on a first-come, first-served basis. However, you have the opportunity to get a guaranteed prompt response for a nominal amount..

Many people, going on a trip, vacation or business trip, do not know what can and cannot be taken on a plane with them. And worry about how not to part for customs control with purchased gifts or souvenirs forever.

First of all, in order to avoid problems with law enforcement agencies, it is necessary to study the rules for importing / exporting items into / out of the country (for example, corals and shells cannot be exported from Egypt; and items made from ivory and tortoise shell from Thailand).

Each airline may have individual rules for carrying hand luggage and baggage. Therefore, before flying, read the rules of the airline you are flying with (usually a bag weighing from 5 to 10 kg is allowed in hand luggage);

If you do not want to pay extra for luggage and are afraid to exceed the weight limit, weigh your bag on a scale beforehand or find a measuring rack at the airport;

Take only the essentials on board the aircraft, put the rest in luggage, so you do not have to look for a place for luggage in the cabin;

Do not put valuable and fragile items (documents and equipment) in your luggage. For fragile things, it is better to put the appropriate Fragile marking.

What not to take on the plane.

1. LIQUIDS, GELS, AEROSOLS

Restrictions apply to: water, drinks, pastes (including toothpastes), creams, oils, perfumes, lotions, sprays, gels, pressure cans (including deodorants), mascara and other substances.
But it should be understood that this does not mean that you cannot take with you, for example, face cream or your favorite perfume. It is only necessary to comply with certain conditions of transportation.
So the volume of one container with liquid should not exceed 100 ml. According to the rules, all things of this kind should be packed in a special transparent plastic bag with a volume of no more than 1 liter with a special fastener.
Remember that a 250ml bottle that is only a quarter full will count as 250ml.

If during customs control you have an open bottle with a drink (water or yogurt - it doesn’t matter), it will be taken away. It is better to buy drinks after inspection in duty free.
The exception is baby food and medicines.

2. WEAPONS AND IMITATION WEAPONS

Children's toy guns are also suitable for this item.

3. ANY STICKING AND CUTTING OBJECTS

For example, scissors (including nail scissors), needles, penknives, knitting needles or hooks, etc. All of this must be checked in.

4. ALCOHOL

Alcohol, taking into account the export / import standards of a certain country, is allowed for transportation only in baggage. The exception is alcoholic products purchased in duty free or on board an aircraft.

5. OTHER ITEMS

Before the flight, we advise you to refer to the official website of your airline and the legislation of the country you are flying to, and see what you cannot take on board the aircraft exactly according to their rules - this may be due to quarantine or some events in the country.

What to take on board the plane.

You can take food on the plane and in some cases you need to. For example, if you are flying with a low-cost airline, you will not be fed for free on board the aircraft.
It is not recommended to take perishable, specific smelling and strongly crumbling products into the salon. To speed up the screening procedure, place food in special transparent containers.

4. WET WIPES

Wet wipes are definitely worth taking on a plane, especially if you're flying with a baby. In addition, with their help you can simply refresh the skin of the face, neck and hands.
