How to set up a camp in the forest. Basic requirements for a camp site. Light is a big topic

Camp device

Even if you are camping for just one night, don't be lazy and take care of basic amenities. I'm not talking about the TV, but about more essential things - places to sleep and wash. Of course, no one will take a kitchen sink with them on a camping trip, but with a little ingenuity, you can create from natural materials, which are always at hand, a lot useful items. Of course, for one night's stay, it is not worth the effort that I offer you, but if you are going to live in the camp for a while, it is quite possible to make this life more comfortable and easier. There are no hard and fast rules for this; you will constantly change and improve something, and this will give you great pleasure. But first, I give you a few ideas.

ACCOMMODATION PLACE

You may want to take an air mattress with you on a hike. If you carefully read my advice in the first chapter, then you know that you need to put some kind of bedding under you to isolate the body from the ground. Air mattresses, however, quickly become damp - this problem can be solved by taking a bivouac bag with you, but problems arise when you sleep under a canvas canopy. And even if the air gap traps moisture and keeps you from getting wet, a damp mattress is very uncomfortable - after you fold it for storage, it can become moldy and it will be unpleasant to sleep on it.

The solution is very simple - make yourself a makeshift bed, which is not difficult.

Find a pair of sturdy, thick logs 1m long and place them parallel to each other, about 15cm from the head and foot ends of your mattress. (In other words, if the mattress is 2m long, the logs should lie 2m 30cm apart.)

Now find some long, straight branches about the thickness of your arm, put them on the logs and tie them tightly with a noose. You will get a platform raised above the ground. Use a knife to make notches in the thick logs on which the branches rest so that they do not move from their places. By placing a mattress on this platform, you will sleep without contact with the ground.

camp table

A camp table can be very handy. It is the same platform, only raised higher. For one overnight stay, a stump with a flat surface is enough, but if you decide to settle on a more long term, make the table bigger and more reliable.

If the ground is soft, dig two ditches opposite each other. Place the excavated earth along the edge of the ditches - it will serve as a back for the seat. The gap between the ditches will become your table.

On fig. 1–3, p. 80 shows how to build a wooden table with seats. Don't worry if the sticks you find in the woods aren't as straight and smooth as in the picture (they never are), but try to find sticks that are as straight and smooth as possible. Using an ax or a saw, align them along the length and make notches to connect them. Tie the sticks together using a pull or sledge knot.

Chairs can be indispensable, especially if the ground in your camp is damp. With a little practice, you will learn how to make a chair in just 15 minutes. Do as shown in figure c. 81. The main thing is to find three strong branches bifurcating at the ends and give them the shape shown in this figure. Having made the frame, cut the branches shorter and tie them with a tightening or sledge knot.

CAMP LIGHTING

We are so used to turning on the light at the touch of a button that we can no longer imagine how dark it is in the forest at night. This is especially true in the jungle, where immediately after sunset, pitch darkness sets in, because not a single light penetrates through the dense foliage. I got into a very unpleasant situation there several times, because I was used to the twilight before dark. After all, setting up a camp in the jungle in complete darkness is a very difficult task!

Once I stopped for the night in the mountains of Transylvania, where the largest brown bear population in Europe has survived. Just a few hours ago, I came face to face with a huge bear, so I tried to make my camp as safe as possible. I pulled a wire around the hut, and tied a tin can with stones to a tree, connecting it with a wire - if someone touches it, the can will topple over. At night I thought I heard a sound, and I went out to see who was there. It was pitch dark all around, and I didn't have a flashlight. While checking the wire, I accidentally pulled it on and almost jumped out of my skin when stones rained down from above with an unimaginable roar! Sometimes our imagination plays tricks on us.

If you build a fire, it will light up your camp; and for directional light, it is good to have a flashlight with you. It will become your indispensable assistant in unforeseen circumstances. I also advise you to take a few candles with you. Candles can easily fall off, so stick your knife into the wood with the flat side of the blade facing up. Drop a few drops of melted paraffin on it and put a candle on the knife. (In the same way, place candles on a wet, flat surface, making sure that there are no flammable objects nearby.)

SCOUT SECRETS OF BEAR GRYLLS

Do not throw away candle stubs and pieces of paraffin that have fallen from it. Melt them in a tin without a lid by sticking a piece of string into the melted paraffin. Let the wax cool and you'll have another camp light (which might save your life if you've lost all other lights).

What if there is a strong wind? I will teach you how to use a glass bottle as a wind-resistant candlestick. To do this, cut off the bottom of the bottle. Do you think this is impossible? Get me a bear! I swear that this can be done in the field without any special tools, and even without any risk of cutting yourself! All you need is a piece of thin wire, fire and cold water. Heat the wire until it is red hot. Just do it with gloves so as not to burn your fingers; after that, tie the bottle with wire in the place where you want to cut it. Drop the bottle in cold water, and it will crack just in the very place where they tied it with wire. Stick the candle into the ground, or, having dripped paraffin, fix it on some other surface, and then cover it with a bottle on top. You will get a wonderful lantern that is not afraid of any wind!

WASH BASIN

If you went hiking with a group and one of your tourists took a small basin with them, build a stand under it, and you will get a washbasin. Make a tripod out of three sticks, as shown in fig. on right. At the intersection of the sticks, located 30 cm from the top, tie a tightening or sled knot. The lower part of the tripod forms the legs, and the upper part forms the support for your basin. (A more solid washbasin that can be used long time, is described in the chapter "Life in the field", in the section "Personal hygiene".)

WALKING IMPROVISATIONS

If you don't have a basin, tie a piece of tarp to your tripod. You will get an impromptu washbasin.

A case from one's life

There are many exciting stories about the miracles of courage and endurance that Arctic and Antarctic explorers like Scott, Amundsen, prisoners of war who escaped from captivity to the jungle or mountains made. These are outstanding examples of human perseverance and determination. But you don't have to travel to Antarctica to find yourself in a situation that will endanger your life. This trouble may be waiting for you on the doorstep. Being able to reason logically and having knowledge - for example, how to tie knots or use different materials for building shelters, making gear and kindling a fire, you will save yourself a lot of trouble.

A friend of mine was undergoing verification tests for service in the special forces. Having successfully passed several stages, he underwent a new test, which was called "Struggle for survival, separation from pursuit, resistance and extraction." This test did not take place in the arctic desert or in the jungle Borneo islands but among the hills and valleys of North Wales!

My friend fled, and he was pursued by a detachment of hunters, whose task it was to find him and capture him. Soon he found himself in a dense coniferous forest. He knew well that hunters with dogs were on his trail. Making his way through the dense forest, he could not correctly assess the situation and choose right direction. Finally, he escaped from the dense thickets and fell right into the pond! He got out of it, but it was October, and the water was so cold that he almost suffocated.

For the previous four evenings, the temperature had dropped below zero, and there was a strong wind. My friend understood that it was about his life and death. He could not kindle a fire - this would betray his location to his pursuers. The only thing left for him was to build a shelter from the icy wind and try to somehow keep warm.

Due to the dense canopy of trees, there was almost no undergrowth on the ground. He began to dig the ground to determine the thickness of the spruce bedding. It was equal to about 45 cm, which means that it will not be possible to dig a hole that would hide it entirely. It was necessary to build a ground shelter, but he did not have any ropes or building material.

But, digging the earth, he got to spruce roots, and these roots are one of the best natural materials for knitting knots. If split, they are ideal for holding the structure of a temporary shelter together. And my friend began to pull out spruce roots from the ground. He split them, and then picked up dry branches that lay nearby. A little time passed before he had a low hut ready. He had only to pile spruce needles and branches on the side of the hut from where the wind blows, and his shelter would be ready. And he realized that, despite the cold and darkness, strong wind and wet clothes, he would be able to escape.

Need, as the old saying goes, is the mother of invention. In other words, if you really need something, with good thought, you will be able to figure out how to solve this problem, even if you have to use improvised materials and tools. In field conditions, you do not need multi-meter nylon ropes and tarpaulins - with common sense, you can not only survive, but also get comfortable.

Of course, the chances of being in a situation where it is a matter of life and death are small, but in the field there are always moments when you need to use your wits. And then you will understand that nature is both a shop, a warehouse of materials, and a shed with tools. You only need one thing - to be able to observe, think, laugh and never give up! That's what all scouts do.

Where and how you set up your tent can have a huge impact on the quality of your camping experience.

This can make the difference between a restful, comfortable sleep and an unpleasant sleep.

In this section, we'll look at basic search tips. good place for the camp.

Location of the camp

Finding a good place to camp has importance especially in difficult conditions. Here are some guidelines for finding a good tent site and orienting it:

*Find a place that is safe and secure. Stay away from the mountains and especially from their peaks, you need places with maximum protection from harsh winds and lightning. And don't camp at the lowest point in the area, because if it rains, the water will pool there.
*Find a place surrounded by natural barriers that will keep you cool in hot weather, windproof in windy weather, and rainproof in rainy weather. Clusters of trees and rocks are ideal natural barriers.
*If possible, camp near a river, stream, or any other source of water that you will use for cooking and household needs. Do not forget about the danger of flooding, do not stop at the very bottom, near the water.

How does camping work

The diagram on the right depicts four main areas: I ordered tours from Kaliningrad from the Septimatur travel agency and had a great rest, the room was comfortable and I had a lot of unforgettable emotions.

1. Tent area

The main thing is to put the tents on a flat surface of the earth or grass, into which it will be easy to stick and strengthen the pegs.

You'd better have your tent placed on high place and was inaccessible to water throughout the territory.

Set up your tent firmly and firmly so that it can withstand the possible strong winds that can occur overnight. For more detailed information see Setting Up the Tent.

2. Prepare the area

If conditions don't force you to cook inside, prepare a dedicated cooking area. It should be located at least 30 meters from the tent and located so that possible winds do not blow sparks from the fire onto the tent.

As explained in Bear Protection, you should keep food in containers and wash dishes immediately to prevent attracting bears or other animals. Read the section on wildfires for information on responsible fire enforcement in outdoor camping settings.

3. Territory for washing

An area where you will bathe, do laundry and do dishes. Having a stream or any other source of water can save you both time and effort. If you're going to use soap, make sure it's biodegradable and you use it at least 300 meters away from the nearest water source. Make sure you don't leave any traces. Empty bottles and boxes are a real disaster.

4. The territory of the toilet

This area should be located at least a few hundred meters from the tent and out of sight from the nearest tents of your campsite or other people. And 300 meters from the water source. Find a place with soft soil that will allow you to dig a hole at least 10 inches deep to bury your waste.

Burn toilet paper, the toilet needs to be organized as soon as you set up camp. When you leave, be sure to cover the restroom area with rocks and twigs to let other tourists know not to dig here. To establish good camp better to have camping experience.

Make sure you don't leave anything that could harm the environment.

With these tips, you can easily set up camp in the forest or in the field, on a road trip or on a trekking tour.

Tourist forays into nature have gained immense popularity in our country. It doesn't matter if it's hiking, hiking, fishing or just camping - an expedition requires a special approach to choosing accessories and equipment. You can buy all the necessary equipment in the kiwi-market.ru online store at a very favorable prices. We advise you to subscribe to the promotions of this store, because very often there are discounts up to 70%. In addition, you need to have basic knowledge about setting up a tourist camp in the forest. After all, it is enough not to take into account one of the features, as the rest will not only become uncomfortable, but the risk of a fire will also increase due to a carelessly laid out fire.

How to set up camp in the woods

The organization of a tourist camp should begin with the main right choice places. You should choose places protected from wind and precipitation, with the presence of trees. They are useful for setting up a tent and a canopy - they will serve as a fulcrum. Abundant thickets of grass and undersized shrubs should be avoided - snakes, snakes, and ticks constantly live in such places. The direction of the wind should also be taken into account so as not to be in a blown place in case of worsening weather.

First of all, a tent is set up and a canopy is equipped. It can be made both from improvised materials, and use a ready-made awning. Sol tent is a great example. Choosing a camping tent should also be taken seriously. Preference should be given to quality camping tents, made of modern materials and with a quick assembly design. Nearby trees can be used as a place to fix stretch marks. An example is the Totem Tepee tent.

After the shelter from rain and wind has been erected, you can start building a fire. The place for it should be chosen with great care. It is best to dig a hole for a fire and overlay stones in a circle. This will eliminate the risk of fire. In addition, the direction of the wind should be taken into account - the smoke should not go towards the main camp. For cooking, two reliable poles should be dug in on both sides of the fire - with their help the pot will be attached over the fire.

The process of setting up camp in the forest is quite simple. The main thing is to follow these simple rules - and great vacation guaranteed!

And now it's time to describe how we set up the camp.

Arrangement of the camp

When we woke up the next morning, we began to set up camp.

It should be said that it took about 5 days to set up the camp, and during this time no one went fishing. Unless my beloved and I periodically went ashore to “splash the baubles”. By the way, for this reason that we do not immediately go fishing, everyone brought food with them. Everyone took with him a stick of sausage, a can of stew and two cans of beans, as well as a head of cheese, on the way we also bought potatoes, onions and a bunch of little things and whoever else wants, but in no case was it possible to bring fish with us - they say it's a bad omen.

The arrangement of the camp consisted in the installation of tents, because. after arrival, we put them anywhere, after which we dug a “toilet”, a garbage pit, restored the cellar, and this is only a small part of what had to be done.

Wash basin

Every year the guys take a five-liter barrel of beer with them - and this is no coincidence;) You need to drink it on the first day of arrival, even before the camp is set up, and here's why:

The fact is that from an empty beer barrel you get an excellent washbasin! And after it is emptied (what delicious contents the future washbasin has!!!) - it is solemnly attached to the tree with adhesive tape and filled with filtered water. We are in a nature reserve and (by the way, we rent our campsite every year and can actually drive anyone out of there with peace of mind) we have no right to cut down a single tree and we have no right to drive nails into trees, so we actively use adhesive tape (sorry, that the slaves who come there in winter do not comply with this rule and every year there are less and less trees).

Toilet

Wildlife and all amenities are outside, and the toilet was a long trench with earth neatly folded beside it. She rummaged in a place where no one would interfere with calmly enjoying nature with a newspaper in her hands. Near the camp there was always a sapper shovel, on which a roll of paper was put on. If the shoulder blades were not in place, then this meant that the toilet was busy. Somehow they forgot to return the spatula to its place - it was not forgotten ...

Cellar

Every year spring floods wash away the cellar, and every year it has to be restored. The cellar is a deep hole dug into the hillside and covered with a tarpaulin. At night, the entrance to the cellar was opened so that cold air, and the nights here, I tell you, are cold, and during the day it was possible to store perishable foods, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks here. In secret, I can say that I successfully shied away from all the jobs where it was necessary to wield a shovel (well, they repulsed my desire and love for a shovel in the years of my youth and planting potatoes).

Grocery store

As I said, we brought a bunch of food with us, which we put in a trailer freed from other things and drove it to the center of the camp - we had such an impromptu grocery store.

Living room

It has long been a sign that when they pull the awning over the table, a storm wind rises - it feels like Akhtuba is playing with us and does not let it be pulled, but we always turn out to be more stubborn and, in the end, we have a decent living room, protected from sun and rain.

Last year, although I managed to take a break from work, I’m afraid that this year it won’t be possible to freebie and they will load me full program But now I know what to expect.

To be continued…

Summer - best time For hiking trips! If you are going on a trip with tents, you need to know how to properly equip a tourist camp.

In order for the trip to leave only positive impressions, you need to carefully prepare for it and think over everything. Knowing how to properly organize a tourist camp is important not only when arriving at a vacation spot, but also when preparing for a trip, so that you do not forget to take some things that will be useful to you in your camping life.

No place makes a man

The place where a tourist camp is set up is called a bivouac. The success of its arrangement depends on many factors: whether you choose the right place itself, whether you set up the tents correctly, where the fire, the kitchen and even the hygienic and sanitary zone will be located. But first things first.

Place for tents

The terrain should be level (as far as possible in nature), dry and close to water. It is best if the camp is on a small hill, blown by a weak breeze. This is necessary so that mosquitoes and midges do not interfere with your rest. Pay attention to the fact that the bivouac is not surrounded by dry trees, which will hang over the tents and may fall on them. If you are camping in the mountains, then a place protected from rockfalls, avalanches and landslides should be chosen.

Some travelers advise to dig a ditch around the tent so that the water flowing from the tent is diverted to the side. This is necessary in case of rain. However, there are opponents of this method, who say that in no case should this be done, because a ditch with water at the edges of the tent can damage the structure - and the house will “float away”. We recommend starting from personal experience, as well as the waterproofness of the bottom of the tent: if your camping house is reliable and ready to withstand the elements of water, digging is useless!

And don't forget to pay attention to the flora. Especially if you are traveling with children! The place should be free of poisonous herbs. It is best to put dry grass, leaves or ferns under the bottom of the house.

Campfire site

Particular attention should be paid to where the fire will be located. Ideally, tents should be located around the fire in a semicircle, but no closer than 4-7 meters from the fire. At the same time, the tents should be on the leeward side so that random sparks do not fall on them and smoke does not penetrate inside the houses.

shower and toilet

One of the primary tasks in the arrangement of a tourist camp is the arrangement of a toilet and a shower. After all, you must admit that if the camp lasts a week, then washing in the river and walking “in the bushes” is not the most tempting prospect. There is an exit! Now tents for showers and toilets are very popular among tourists. These are special, easy-to-assemble and disassemble structures made of arches and an awning. What do shower and toilet tents look like -. In a nutshell, in such “bathrooms” you can stand to your full height, daylight passes through a window, usually located at eye level, and, conveniently, inside the structure you will find special holders for soap, towels and other of things. The cost of a camping shower or toilet is 3000-5000 rubles.

Equipment for hygiene tents must be purchased separately. This can be, for example, a portable outdoor shower, which consists of a tank with a capacity of 20 liters, a tube with a valve and a nozzle for a water jet. This design costs about 300 rubles. As for the toilet, for these purposes you can purchase a bucket-toilet - a special bucket with a lid in the shape of a toilet rim. Its price is also on average about 300-500 rubles. Or choose a dry closet and enjoy the comfort of home in nature.

In order for you to throw away food waste and the toilet, you need to build a pit. It should be located no closer than 50 meters from the reservoir. The turf you cut from this area is best placed in the shade and dampened with water. When you leave the place, the sod will need to be returned back, thus digging a hole with waste.

Kitchen

Separately, it is worth determining the place where you will store food and prepare food. It can be a special tent, a simple awning or a vestibule of one of the tents. By the way, among the camping furniture you can also find a folding kitchen-table, this is quite useful thing for tourists who camp for a really long time.

Security measures

In nature, you should not forget that unwanted guests can disrupt your vacation. Therefore, you should take care of personal safety measures. One of the old methods is rattles. A rope is stretched around the camp at a height of 30-50 centimeters, to which empty cans are tied. They should be tied in pairs. Anyone who stumbles upon such a banner will make the jingle of cans, which will be heard in the tents. This is a fairly budgetary way, but tin cans must be prepared in advance. The disadvantages of this method are that such a stretch is easy to detect, and when strong wind There is a high chance of a false call.

Leaving the area

When you leave the bivouac, you must leave it in the same condition in which it was before your arrival. The waste pits must be removed, the stones that you needed for setting up tents, arranging a fire and other things must be returned to their original place. Observe cleanliness and order in the forest and glades, and then next vacation here will be as comfortable as this one.
