lake Dedovo, Pilninsky district, Nizhny Novgorod region, Russia. Big Holy Lake is another place covered in legends

Rusakovsky Monastery
Dedovo and Big Holy Lake

Lake Svyato is located in the very depths of the Murom forests ( Nizhny Novgorod Region). The lake is shaped like a human, or rather a crouching embryo. It has a "head" and "legs" which are accentuated by three streams flowing into the lake.

Lake Svyato in the area of \u200b\u200bthe "legs"

Lake - karst origin. Geologists say that about 800 years ago, some kind of catastrophe occurred on the territory of the present Nizhny Novgorod region, during which failures filled with water formed here and there. At the bottom of the Svyato, as legends say, either a village, or a church, or a monastery hid.

The Lake itself was a forbidden zone, a place of prayers and, as it were, a model of the world. "Legs" is low, underworld where Satan lives. The "head" - a place, on the contrary, is holy, came to the point that in 1997, at the insistence of the public, a wooden chapel was erected right opposite the "head", thereby marking the place of spontaneous prayers of the surrounding residents. They say about the “head” that once an image of the head of Jesus appeared in it, and after all, the chapel is also dedicated to His Image Not Made by Hands. Trinity, and 12 pine trees on the sharp symbolize the 12 apostles, and the island is called that. Although the “head” does not, as it were, connect with the main mirror of the lake, ringed pikes were released in Krutomoy and caught in Lake Svyato. In this Krutomoy, an icon was somehow caught that surfaced from that same flooded monastery, and now it is kept in the church in Dedovo.

There is a legend that a certain man swam to the lake to fish, hooked his fishing line on something solid, and pulled out the rope, pulling which he saw the cross and the dome of the church. The man recoiled in horror, the boat capsized, and he instantly drowned (but it is not clear who brought this story to us?).

In 1972, “everyone” saw how the water in the lake parted, and the road to the Island of the 12 Apostles opened. However, those who see not 12, but 13 pines on the island call it Devil’s Island. which grew a lonely aspen, a symbol of Judas, but it was cut down.

There is another story about this Rusakovsky monastery and the village of Rusaki. The name itself allegedly comes from the fact that the monks sinned with mermaids.

The monastery is said to have sunk into the ground between 1691 and 1764. There was just a wedding going on in the church. A trio of horses with an empty carriage took off and escaped, flew to Dedovo, and thereby notified the inhabitants of the misfortune. In the morning you can hear the bells ringing underwater (they say the same about Kitezh). At midnight, under the light of the moon, a cross is visible under water. Rusaks will rise from the water on the day of the Last Judgment.
In 1969, allegedly three women, going on a pilgrimage in Dedovo, decided to spend the night by the lake, but they noticed a tent, and in it - two old-fashioned men. The men let them in and made them sleep on chests. There were many pectoral crosses in the chests, and one of the men, strikingly similar to Nikola Ugodnik, explained - “here, they lose, and we pick it up.” In the morning, the women found themselves lying on the bare ground, the tent, men and chests were gone.
Murom archaeologists are not sure that there was a village here at all: they say, people clung to the rivers, and not to the lakes.
In the 1960s divers dived into the lake and found a wooden floor with vertical oak columns and a chain attached to the floor. The bottom of the lake is littered with forest, there are holes everywhere, the depth of the lake is 21 meters, and the water is rarely warmer than 7 degrees.
Water analysis shows an increased content of silver. There is fish, but it is visible only on a fine day, when it frolics in shallow water in the sun. And so - the water is silent, there are no birds, there is little vegetation. There is one island on the lake, it stands out from all of them because it moves. Several birch trees grow on it. It is driven by spring ice - every year, the island stands in a new place. How powerful trees can grow on a piece of land that is not connected to the bottom is unknown.

Another legend says that the Murom Way used to pass in these places, "dashing people" were naughty in these forests. The robbers waited for merchants, killed, robbed and drowned in the lake. The loot was hidden in the hollows of trees and old stumps. The time has come when the merchants stopped traveling along this road - it is too dangerous. Then the locals decided to kill the robbers in an insidious way. Local women went to them in the forest with wine, and poppy was mixed into the wine. The robbers drank wine, fell asleep, and local men came, stabbed them with pitchforks, and threw the corpses into the lake. At night, the groans and sighs of merchants and robbers not buried according to Christian custom could be heard from the lake. locals the Arzamas priest was invited to read the prayer for the farewell over the lake. The priest read a prayer and lowered a silver cross into the lake. The cross was heavy and the water did not accept it twice - it pushed it to the surface. After that, the lake was called "Holy".

Church of the Savior in the village of Dedovo

2 km. from the lake is the village of Dedovo with the old Church of the Savior.

"The village of Dedovo is located 140 versts from the provincial city of Vladimir and 24 from the county Murom."
The scribe book says that the village and its environs were inhabited by "Mordovians and Tatars".

Tradition says that a certain Ivan and his wife Stepanida found a Tatar girl thrown in the forest and took her in, christening her Nastasya. When she grew up, a certain Prince fell in love with her, who was right there on a pilgrimage. From this love, their daughter Praskovya was born. From the church - Nikolskaya - there was an underground passage to the Rusakovsky monastery. Somehow the prince went through this underground passage from the church to the monastery, and Nastya and her daughter went there through the forest. When Nastya and her daughter arrived, they saw that the Rusakovsky monastery had fallen into the ground, and a lake (Holy) was splashing in its place. The Tatars immediately came and walled up Nastya and her daughter in an underground passage. Since then, her crying has been heard by the lake. About crying - this is about an echo, the like of which is nowhere else. The echo on Lake Svyato returns what was shouted four times, and completely without distortion, even the longest phrases.
The father of this prince, in memory of his son and Nastya, built a special cross on the St. Nicholas Church - with a crescent, and the crescent symbolized the Tatar-Nastya.

Local legend says that once upon a time there arose in this place Nikolsky monastery from Nikolskaya wooden church, and the monks lived in dugouts. When Ivan the Terrible approached the monastery with his army, his horse stood up and did not want to go further. Then the monks, or “grandfathers”, came out of their dugouts to meet the tsar. Ivan promised to build the St. Nicholas Cathedral from stone, which he did. This is partly confirmed by the icon of St. Nicholas discovered in the church in Soviet times. On the reverse side of the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was the inscription: “ summer 7070 (1562) December ... and again this icon of the Saint and Wonderworker Nicholas was renewed in 164 (1656) under the power of the great sovereign Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich ... This miraculous icon was overlaid in 187 (1679) by the servant of God Matthew Osipov Krovkov to death and in memory of my parents and my sinful soul.” A new riza was made in the 19th century, but in 1981 it was stolen.

The monastery soon disappeared, only the temple remained. The village that arose in its place was called Dedovo - in memory of those "grandfathers".

The first mention of the church in historical records is found in the scribe books of 1629-1630. According to these books, the village of Dedovo is listed for the Krovkov brothers, in the village there are two churches - St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and St. Martyr. Flora and Lavra; the last church at that time was not yet consecrated; both churches are the construction of estates; the church had a priest and a sexton; “the arable land of the church“ good lands ”was 20 quarters each. in the field."

According to the salary books of 1676, there was already another stone church in the name of the Savior Not Made by Hands. It was built by the local patrimony Matvey Osipovich, who later placed in it the icon of the Savior Not Made by Hands.
“A particularly revered shrine of the temple is the ancient icon “Not Made by Hands” of the Lord I. Christ; this icon is revered as miraculous not only by the parishioners, but also by the surrounding residents, who come in significant numbers to venerate this shrine. There is an inscription on the icon: “... on the 30th day of November, this Spasov Icon Not Made by Hands was painted in the city of Kazan by the icon painter John on the promise of pestilence and deliverance from adversity by the servant of God for the many years of health of the Great Sovereign Tsar Lexei Mikhailovich of All Great and White Russia, Autocrat and for all Orthodox Christians and my kind Matthew Osipov son Krovkov, and this miraculous icon of the Savior was brought to the reigning city of Moscow on January 7188 on the 20th day under the power of Feodor Alekseevich of All Russia, the autocrat and after writing this miraculous icon was signed by Ivan Dementyev on October 7200 on the 4th day for the health of the great Sovereign Tsar Feodor Alekseevich ... for the eternal commemoration of Sovereign Alexei Mikhailovich and all Orthodox Christians. When this icon arrived at the church in the village of Dedova, it is not known with certainty. This icon was decorated with a precious silver-gilt riza (1,500 rubles)…”
“In the parish at the Church of the Savior, according to the salary books of 1676, it appears: the courtyard of the landowner Matvey Krovkov and 11 doors. peasant (in 1896 there were also 11 households); the village of Ilyinskaya, there are 11 peasant households in it; village Malysheva, it has 15 doors. peasant (in 1896 there were 51 households); the village of Krovkova, it has 24 doors. peasant (in 1896 there were 48 households here). Church lands from the boyar dacha, 3 quarters in the field, hay mowing for 100 kopecks.
The Church of the Savior has survived to this day in its original form, “only the roof was made of iron instead of wood. The altar is semicircular, separated from the temple by a wall with arches made in it. A refectory adjoins the western wall, through an arch, and a warm aisle is attached to the northern side of the refectory. The time of construction of the chapel is unknown, but probably it was built simultaneously with the stone church. At the present time (1896), this chapel is connected by arches to the refectory of the cold church, which resulted in a vast warm church. a small old bell tower with a tent top adjoins the western wall of the refectory.
They say about the bell tower that there is a basement under it, in which treasures are hidden, and from it there is an underground passage to the island of Red Lake Svyato, the one that floats.
During the existence of the church, the interior decorations were updated more than once. The iconostasis of the cold church was built in 1797, but the icons in it are old; in a warm aisle the iconostasis of 1828 Thrones in the church in the 19th century. there were two: the main one in honor of the Savior Not Made by Hands, and in the warm aisle in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
In addition to two ancient icons, “an old icon of the so-called. "Watching Eye", the front image of the words of the Psalm: "Do not slumber, save Israel below." Also preserved in the church: 1) an old gospel on the table in a silver frame - seals of 1657; 2) A silver-gilded altar cross with an inscription: “a part from the life-giving cross, from the tomb of God, the earth, from Mount Golgotha sand, from the oak of Mamre, from Mount Sinai a tree, sweat from the head of torture. Catherine and particles of St. relics of several saints "; 3) a small silver gilded cross with 40 particles of St. relics of various saints.
A bell, cast for the church of the village of Dedova in 7199 (1691), has been preserved on the bell tower, while another ancient bell, attached to the Dedovo Church by Matvey Osipov. Krovkov, it is not known why and when it was transferred to the Murom Bogoroditsky Cathedral.
The clergy at the church according to the state is supposed to be a priest and a psalmist. For the maintenance of them it turns out: from services and corrections up to 500 rubles, from arable land and grain collection up to 70 rubles. in a year The clergy live in church houses on church land.
The parish consists of the village of Dedova and the villages: Korovkova (2 ver. from the church) and Malyshev (5 ver.), in which, according to the clergy, there are 537 male souls. gender and 646 female.
In s. Dedovo since 1875 there is a parochial school; there were 17 students in 1896. Since 1886, a literacy school has been opened in the village of Malyshev; there were 23 students in 1896.”

Voices of people, music, loud laughter and fun can be heard from neighboring sectors.

Dedovo(Didovo) - wonderful place for rest both for loud companies and for quiet family vacation with kids.

big holy lake is a closed reservoir. The depths of the lake range from 1 to 6 meters. The bottom of almost the entire reservoir is soft silty. There are several areas with sandy soil. The shores of the lake are overgrown with reeds and sedge. IN coastal zone water lily grows. Grows along the coast Pine forest.

The main species living in the lake are crucian carp, perch, pike and roach, which are caught mainly by open water. For catching crucian carp, a fly rod, feeder and other effective equipment are used. When catching carp on a feeder, light feeders weighing up to 40 grams are used. A feeder in catching carp with a feeder is needed for casting to the desired distance and delivering bait to the fishing area. When fishing with a feeder, baits of plant origin, such as dough or canned corn, have proven to be effective.

It is also very catchy to catch carp with an elastic band and catch carp with a smoktushka. These methods allow you to fish in those places where the usual sports gear is ineffective.

Spinning fishing in Bolshoye Svyatoe Lake is not difficult. There is enough perch in the reservoir, which lives throughout the lake. In the summer dawns, the striped actively betrays its presence, forming boilers on the surface of the water. It is better to catch it on spinners or medium-sized spoons. With the cooling of the perch, you need to look in more deep places using micro jig rigs.

Pike are caught near aquatic vegetation, flooded trees, in areas with a difference in depths. Wobblers are used in shallow water. Twitching has proven itself very well. In the pits, it is better to use oscillating lures, silicone baits or deep-sea wobblers.

Let's go further. Of course, along the way I want to cover maximum amount interesting places. And one of them in the chosen route was Big Holy Lake (or Lake Svyato) near the village Dedovo. It is about 100 km from Nizhny Novgorod.

It is believed to be the largest karst lake in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Its depth reaches 20m. There are also legends why it is called Holy. According to one of them, there used to be a village with a monastery on this site, and as a result of natural circumstances, it went under water.

Here is a quote from the legend:

“Then these places were inhabited by Mordovians and Tatars. At this time - the end of the 17th century - the worker Ivan and his wife Stepanida were at the church. One day they found a Tatar girl thrown in and christened her Nastasya. When Nastasya became an adult, a young prince, who came on a pilgrimage, fell in love with her. They fell in love, and Nastya had a daughter, Praskovya. From the church there was an underground passage to the Rusakovsky Monastery and to the Red Island. Once the prince went this way to the village of Rusaki, and Nastya and her daughter went through the forest. They came to the place where the monastery stood, and they see that instead of it a failed lake has formed. Soon the Tatars came and walled up Nastya in an underground passage. Since then, her cry has been heard by the lake.

According to other sources, the lake has been considered holy since ancient pagan times, because, if you connect a great fantasy, you can see the shape of a person in its contours. To be honest, my imagination was not enough to imagine it.

There are also "evidence" of eyewitnesses telling about visions of a golden cross in the waters of the lake, various paranormal activity and unusual cases. All this is a bit like stories about the lake.

How to get there?

If you drive from Nizhny Novgorod, then you need the Bogorodsk highway. Drive along it for approx. 100 km, then turn left from it, towards the village of Kolobkovo. The turn is pretty steep.

Now the road goes through a beautiful pine forest. It is better not to rush and enjoy the surrounding landscape.

We reach a fork. The road to the left will lead to Dedovo village, straight - to the various entrances around the lake, to the right - to the tourist complex.

Bolshoye Svyatoe Lake, Navashinsky District, Nizhny Novgorod Region.

What did we discover when we arrived at the lake?

"A holy place is never empty" thought the Wild City dweller thoughtfully as he drove up to the Holy Lake. A whole pilgrimage of cars drove to and from him. And for good reason, because it was a sunny Sunday.

I wanted to swim in the sacred waters as soon as possible, but due to the fact that I didn’t know where to go specifically, I chose the first turn to the right. Almost immediately I saw a parking lot. They left the car there. Then on foot in search of approaches to the water.

But the farther they went, the more iron horses stood there. It turned out that this tourist complex "Holy Lake" surrounded by a fence. There was no time to look for other entrances, so we went to look for loopholes, and found ... main entrance with security, through which they entered the territory without question.

The tourist complex, hidden among the pines, looked picturesque and disposed to rest. I even wanted to live here for a couple of days. There is a restaurant and shop on site. And, of course, sand beach which we were looking for. But due to the fact that there were too many people who wanted to swim, and the locker room was not in sight, swimming was rejected.

Tourist base "Holy Lake"

Cozy cabins on campus

From the beach you can see the outline of the lake, and many tents and cars along its banks. Definitely, it is very popular place for weekend tourists.

It is worth taking note as a place where you can stand up with a tent. But you need to go not to the first exit, which leads to the recreation center, but further, around the lake.

After admiring the amber surface of the Great Holy Lake, we set off further. After all, there is still 120 km of the way to the magical one.

Map:

August 3, Saturday, day 2. We plan to look at cable-stayed bridge through the Oka, which was built not so long ago near Murom, and on its other side (already in the Nizhny Novgorod region) we are waiting for the Holy Lake in Dedovo, about which we also read a lot of “legendary” things.

They write that a monastery used to stand in its place, but somehow it sank into the water. They write that the water quality is unique, etc. In addition, it is one of the largest karst (failure) lakes in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Its area is more than 150 hectares, the depth is up to 20 m, and along the perimeter it is 8 km.

12.30 . We leave from towards the Nizhny Novgorod region.

We decide to check everything ourselves on the spot. Moreover, this lake is located only 40 km from Murom. 🙂

In the morning, the weather begins to improve, at times the sun peeps out, there are many beautiful white clouds in the sky. Holy Lake is located in the Nizhny Novgorod region, which begins on the other side of the Oka. And this means that our path lies through a new beautiful cable-stayed bridge, which was built in 2009 across the Oka. From a distance, it looks very elegant.

The bridge across the Oka looks no less grandiose up close. Its length is 1400 km, but an additional road was built on the embankment, which goes through numerous fields and backwaters. Making up a total of about 5 kilometers. The height of the pylons at the bridge is 86 meters, its width is 15 meters.

In August 2013 (just when we were here), the press service of the Federal Road Agency reported that the Murom Bridge across the Oka River had won the All-Russian Internet voting for the honorary title of “The Most beautiful bridge Russia".

During the year, users of the Rosavtodor website voted for several candidates for this title. During this time, thousands of citizens managed to express their sympathy to 16 bridges-nominees, of which the five most notable achievements of Russian bridge building were determined in July. And more than 32 thousand people voted for the Murom bridge. It's nice that we were somehow involved in this event.

It is very pleasant to ride on this bridge. The beauty of it gigantic structure very harmonious with the beauty surrounding nature. Endless fields, small backwaters, lakes, forests that can be seen in the distance. Here is a modest video that was filmed on a camera while driving along a cable-stayed bridge. Of course, it cannot convey all the beauty and grandeur.

Navashinsky district - Nizhny Novgorod outback

This wonderful bridge distracted us a little from the problem that we had been puzzled with from the moment we got into the car. We were running out of gas. At first, this was not a problem, since yesterday, when entering Murom, we saw a huge number of gas stations both in the city and at the entrance to it. However, today, leaving the city on a different road, we did not see a single one. This did not sadden us much, we just thought that everything was ahead.

Then a cable-stayed bridge occupied us for several kilometers, through which our path ran. And then we started to get nervous. We drove about 20 km, but did not meet a single gas station on the territory of the Nizhny Novgorod region. I did not want to turn to the lake without gasoline at all.

Having stopped in some village, they began to pester the inhabitants with the question, where can you feed the car here. Fortunately, we came across one knowledgeable uncle who said that if we drive forward along this road (as we did), then we will not find anything for 50 km. And the nearest refueling option is in Navashino.

But for this it will be necessary to go back a little and turn away from our route. Extra 12 kilometers - and we are guaranteed to find gasoline. Well, we believe the local aborigine, we turn around and go to the district center. Uncle did not deceive! Right on the outskirts of the village of Navashino we feed our car. Hooray! Now we can safely move on.

You can again look around, admiring beautiful forests. And the mushrooms are here! One has only to go 2 meters into the forest: red ones, white ones, and chanterelles.

The coordinates of the lake are filled in the navigator, we drive calmly along the road to Nizhny Novgorod in the hope that he will tell us the right turn in time. And now the navigator comes to life and offers to turn right. We all turn our necks in this direction. Of course, with a good imagination, it can be called "expensive". In this direction, you need to go through a huge puddle, and then this "road" goes along the field parallel to the main road.

How to get to Holy Lake

So, you can get from Murom to the lake like this. First, on the road to Nizhny Novgorod, then we leave it at the sign for Korobkovo. Here the road gradually comes to an end, smoothly passing from asphalt with potholes simply in a primer with holes. After Korobkovo, not only the road ends, but all the signs of civilization. We are happy to see a huge shield on the trees.

It reads: "Lake Holy Dedovskoye". So we are going to the right direction! But, as usual, the red dot with the inscription: “You are here” does not have a mark on the map. There are no signs or roads on the poster either. We drive straight through the forest.

A few kilometers (approximately 4 km) after Korobkovo we leave for a real fork. You can go in any of the 4 opened directions. The quality of the road is the same everywhere, there are no signs, of course. So we had a classic fairy-tale version: “you will go right, you will lose your horse ...”

Only with us the situation was a little worse, because. on that epic stone, at least the final goals were indicated in all directions. And we have a complete unknown ahead of us. 🙂

Fortunately for us, a car taxied to this intersection and stopped. The girl in it said that the road to the right leads to some enterprise or recreation center, to the left is unknown. But, maybe, to the village of Dedovo. But to get to the lake you need to go straight.

The most pleasant thing in this whole situation (if you do not take into account the complete unknown ahead), of course, is the surrounding forest. It's just fantastic! Huge pine trees, clear light air with the scent of pine needles.

Juniper grows in large quantities in the lower layer.

Walking through such a forest is unusually pleasant! And surprisingly, there are no mosquitoes at all.

We move on slowly. Somewhere after 5 km from Korobkovo we come across pioneer camp where, to our great joy, several cars are parked. Again we pester with questions, where is the lake? They answer us: “Yes, here it is, everywhere!”. They offer us to go back a little and turn along any path we like. They must all lead to the goal.

When asked about the village of Dedovo, where the old church is located and where we also wanted to go, for this we need to turn along the same forest road only in the opposite direction from the lake. So, it turns out that if you drive from Korobkov (approximately 5 km), then after the intersection you can turn right - to the lake or left - to the village of Dedovo.

Lake! Is it really sacred?

14.20, traveled 59 km in a day . Indeed, 200 meters from the road from the hillock we see a beautiful water surface! In the shade of the pines, the Holy Lake really seems fabulous.

In the middle of the lake, there is an island miraculously, on which fairly tall trees grow.

On the shore we meet one company of vacationers. Somewhere in the distance, music rumbles, so there are people there too. It is said that the locals love to spend their weekends here. And this is not surprising. We also really want to stay in this place longer.

We get closer to the water. It is very warm and a completely unusual brownish hue. But this does not affect the transparency of the water in the lake at all. Lotuses grow near the shore. The bottom is very pleasant, sandy, there is no mud. With great pleasure we make a swim. How nice and beautiful all around!
