Weight and size

Airlines have certain criteria and standards for carrying hand luggage (primarily regarding its size and weight). Regardless of the country, carriers generally share the same viewpoint on the issue of maximum allowable values.

The largest suitcase (or other hand luggage) should have the following parameters: 55x40x20 cm. And in total it should be 115 cm.

Choosing the right suitcase size is made easier by the fact that current restrictions in size - standard, in accordance with which manufacturers produce the corresponding suitcases.

The weight of hand luggage is another parameter that is under the close attention of the carrier. In the economy class cabin you can take luggage from 7 to 10 kg. The allowed weight can be more if you upgrade the ticket class.

It turns out not so a large number of free kilos. Therefore, when choosing a suitcase, pay attention to its volume and its own weight.

For example, a suitcase with the recommended volume for hand luggage (30-40 liters) will weigh from 2.1 to 4 kg. And this means that out of 7-10 kilograms allowed, about half will be the own weight of a bag or suitcase. And if you can take only 5-7 kg in hand luggage (some carriers have such standards), then you just need a very light suitcase.

The weight is affected by the material from which the suitcase is made. The most popular among travelers are fabric suitcases made of special waterproof materials (polyamide, polyester, nylon), which protect things from dirt, moisture and damage.

Mobility and ease of movement

The design can have 4 or 2 wheels. A suitcase with four wheels is more suitable for a flat surface on which it is easy to move around without much effort. The model on two wheels is best used on uneven ground.

Ideally, if each wheel rotates independently, they are not located on the same axis and are half built into the body. Wheel mounts must be metal.

Important: if you plan to carry luggage on 4 wheels in hand luggage, you need to take into account that wheels will also be taken into account when measuring it.

As for the handles, they require careful and proper handling (especially plastic parts). They are designed so that with their help you can roll a suitcase, but do not hold tens of kilograms in weight.

It is desirable that the main handle of the suitcase is telescopic, securely fixed in the desired position and completely retracts into the body.

The presence of an additional handle (side or top), designed to lift the suitcase (for example, on a shelf in a train or bus), will extend the life of the main handle and save it from quick breakage.
