Primorye24. The ferry Sewol, which sank on April 16, 2014 off the coast of South Korea, was completely raised from the water to 13 meters above sea level on March 25, 2017 and transferred to the semi-submersible transport vessel White Marlin. This was reported on March 25, 2017 by local media.

The operation to raise the ferry reportedly began late on March 22. Engineers and other specialists worked even at night.

The operation was observed by relatives of those whose bodies were never found. Nine people are currently missing.

The ship lay on its side at a depth of 44 meters.

It is expected that the transport ship with the ferry should arrive at the port of Mokpo on March 29, having traveled 90 kilometers.

It is noted that before the start of the search for the bodies of the nine missing passengers, who are expected to still be on the wreck, the vessel will undergo technical and unloading work, which can take three to four days. Another full day will be needed to transport the ferry to the pier located inside the port, putting the rail transporters under steam. The ferry is expected to be ready to start searching for bodies by April 01. In case the bodies are not found on board the ferry, their search will continue underwater. In the area where the ferry was before the rise, nets were installed. Divers will search for bodies on seabed using radar sonar.

Recall that the Sewol ferry crashed on April 16, 2014. He followed from Incheon to Jeju Island. Heading towards the island, the ship made a turn, after which it listed heavily. It could not straighten itself, fell on its side and turned over.

According to South Korean prosecutors, the captain told the passengers to stay where they were, even though there were enough lifeboats. At the same time, he was one of the first to leave the ship under the guise of a passenger.

There were 476 people on board the Sewol. Only 172 were able to save, 304 were killed or missing, including 250 schoolchildren.

TOKYO, April 16 - RIA Novosti, Ivan Zakharchenko. Relatives and friends of the victims of the crash of the passenger ferry "Sewol" ("Time") with sorrow mark on Thursday the anniversary of this most difficult last years tragedy in South Korea. About 300 people, mostly schoolchildren, on a sightseeing tour of Jeju Island died on April 16, 2014, when the ship, overloaded with passengers, sank off southwest coast countries.

The day before, a group of legislators from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea tried to participate in a memorial service on the island of Jindo, 4 kilometers from the site of the sinking of the Sewol. However, according to reports from Seoul, they had to return because the relatives of the victims did not let the deputies in and did not let them join the mourning ceremony.

The grieving relatives of the victims criticize the authorities for their unfair, in their opinion, approach, in particular, to the issue of compensation, and insufficiently thorough investigation of the tragedy.

In total, there were 476 people on the ferry, of which 295 people were confirmed dead, nine more are considered missing. The Sewol, a 6,825 ton vessel, was allegedly overloaded in violation of the instructions, and due to bad weather for some reason it went down.

Ferry captain Lee Jong Suk and 14 other crew members have left the ship and are accused of leaving passengers to die.

The prosecutor's office sought a death sentence for the captain and life imprisonment for three other crew members, while the rest were required to be punished with imprisonment for terms of 15 to 30 years. The court sentenced Lee Jong Suk to 36 years in prison, clearing him of murder charges. The ferry operator was fined approximately $9,000.

The verdict will be appealed. The prosecutor's office insists that the captain and his assistants did not give any command to the passengers to leave the ferry for rescue, but instead escaped themselves.

Although the parliamentary commission is investigating, many consider it insufficient and fear that the truth will never be fully clarified.

Media: emergency with the ferry endangered the values of South Korean societyThe Sewol passenger ferry, carrying 476 people, sank on April 16. 172 people were saved, 281 people died. Another 23 passengers are listed as missing.

The Republic of Korea Navy announced plans to improve the efficiency of rescue services so that tragedies of this kind do not happen again. According to the Yonhap news agency, the plan includes an increase in the number of rescuers and the deployment of a CH-47 rescue helicopter and a dozen personnel to the port of Jinhae in Gyeongnam-do province. By 2016, it is planned to equip South Korean warships with portable inflatable boats and train additional submariners for search operations.

About 20 warships and three helicopters have conducted maritime rescue exercises off the Mokpo port, and such exercises will continue.

Relatives of the victims insist on raising the sunken ferry from the bottom of the sea in order to find out all the circumstances of the tragedy and find the remains of people.

South Korea fires seven ministers after Sewol ferry crashWith a government reshuffle, South Korean President Park Geun-hye is trying to restore the credibility in his work that was undermined by the Sewol shipwreck on April 16.

The government agreed to explore such a possibility and estimated that it would take about 120 billion won (over $100 million). However, as the agency notes with reference to experts, the ferry may turn out to be unbearable, as it weighs more than 10,000 tons. There are currently five ways to accomplish this task, including using a floating dock with cranes. More than half a billion dollars will also be spent, in particular, on compensation to the relatives of the victims. According to Yonhap, the Republic of Korea government has already spent about $180 million on rescue and search efforts.

While there are disputes over the investigation and the fate of the sunken ferry, people appear who intend to perpetuate the memory of the tragedy. So, the eldest son of the famous English actress Audrey Hepburn, the writer Sean Hepburn Ferrer, decided to plant a forest in South Korea together with the local organization of environmentalists "Planet of Trees" . His "Sewol Memorial Forest" will be planted on Jindo Island.

“Korea has everything that is expected from South-East Asia»

On Monday, November 25, a solemn ceremony dedicated to the symbolic opening of the year of mutual visits of Russia and Korea took place in Moscow. Due to the fact that from January 2014 it opens without visa regime between our countries, representatives of Korea and experts in the tourism industry told reporters what to expect from further cooperation.

Recall that the official agreement on the abolition of visas from January 2014 between Russia and South Korea was signed in Seoul on November 13 this year by the heads of the two states. Now the main task for our countries is to make sure that the flow of tourists increases, and the level of interaction between countries in the field of tourism deepens. It is known that one of the main obstacles to Russian tourists on the way to South Korea - this is not the now canceled visa regime, but the prices of air tickets and a long, tiring flight. Now, counting on an increase in the tourist flow, air carriers are improving communication not only Far East(Trips to Korea from Vladivostok are now popular), but throughout the country. Currently, you can fly to South Korea (in addition to Vladivostok) from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Irkutsk.

According to data for 2012, the number of Russian tourists who visited South Korea amounted to about 167 thousand people. And there are about 100,000 Koreans who came to Russia for tourism purposes.

Of course, compared with the tourist flow to other countries, these figures are not too large. Therefore, according to representatives of the Korean side, the main task for the Year of Mutual Visits (2014-2015) is not only the strengthening of cooperation between states as such, but also the development of thematic tourism that Korea can attract - business, gastronomic, natural, cultural or medical .

Medical tourism- direction, especially popular among Russians: about the quality of Asian creams, cosmetics and medicines there are legends. In addition, South Korea attracts reasonable price for diagnosis and treatment compared to other countries. In many hospitals there are Russian-speaking coordinators, thanks to which tourist patients will not have problems with communication.

However, it is not only those who have health problems who are invited to travel to South Korea. According to representatives of the Korean side, special attention deserve the sights of Seoul - the capital of the state, where ancient palaces have been preserved, architectural monuments. To understand the atmosphere of Korea, it is recommended to visit the markets. “In general, Korea has everything that is expected from Southeast Asia,” the Koreans themselves characterize their country. Among natural monuments, attracting tourists, especially stands out volcanic island Jeju, famous lava tunnels- they come there for beach holiday. But in general, it must be remembered that the coast of Korea is washed by three seas, so tourists who want to swim can only choose.

And, of course, one cannot ignore the culture of South Korea, which many tourists want to get acquainted with. In order to get an idea of it, at the end of the opening ceremony of the Year of Mutual Visits, all guests were shown the performance of one of the popular Korean national groups - the MISO group of the Jong Don Theater, which is considered the main traditional theater of Korea.
