Highway M-8 "Kholmogory"(Yaroslavskoe highway)- a federal road in Russia. It originates in Moscow, passes through Yaroslavl, Vologda and ends in Arkhangelsk. Has entrances to the cities: Kostroma, Severodvinsk and Pereyaslavl-Zalessky detour. The road section from Moscow to Yaroslavl is integral part European route E 115.

The total length is 1271 km.

Stationary traffic police posts are located in the city of Pushkino, Moscow Region, at 32 km, in the village of Prechistoye, Yaroslavl Region, at 364 km, and in the village of Bereznik, Vinogradovsky District Arkhangelsk region on 960 km of the route.

The route is the main one for traveling to the north of the country towards Arkhangelsk. For this reason, there is a very high traffic throughout the year. Traditionally, there are significant traffic jams at the exit from Moscow. The main places of congestion: a section of the road from the Moscow Ring Road to the city of Korolev and in the village of Tarasovka, at the point where the road narrows. The infrastructure along the entire length of the route is well developed: there are a sufficient number of gas stations and cafes.

The cities of Sergiev Posad, Pereyaslavl-Zalessky and Danilov have bypass roads. When driving Pereyaslavl-Zalessky through the ring road, the distance increases significantly compared to the road through the city, where, moreover, travel is prohibited freight transport. The road passes through the rivers: Volga, Sukhona, Vologda, Led, Yemtsa and Vel.

At the exit from Moscow, the road has 6 lanes, after Korolev it narrows to 4 lanes for about 100 km from Moscow, then - 2 lanes for 90 km. Then the route widens again to 4 lanes to Yaroslavl. On the Yaroslavl-Vologda section, the highway has one lane for traffic in each direction. In some sections, widening of the carriageway is provided for the possibility of overtaking.

State

The road from Moscow to Vologda is in very good condition; in the summer of 2014, repairs were carried out in the Pereyaslavl-Zalessky area to replace the road surface and strengthen roadsides. In Danilov, a new bypass road was made, then a complete replacement of asphalt was carried out to the Prechistoye. The route to Vologda itself is in good condition. Further, the road to Syamzhy is also not bad, outside the city in the spring and summer of 2014, repairs were carried out for 20 km. After the repaired area, bumps appear on the asphalt. In the Arkhangelsk region, the roadway is good. After the city of Brin Navolok, for 25 km, work was also carried out to restore the road surface.

The federal highway M-8 crosses several large water obstacles, these are the rivers: Volga, Sukhona, Vologda, Led, Yemtsa and Vel.

There are a number of dangerous sections on this road that drivers need to pay attention to. Special attention, especially in winter time, these are: 101, 103, 109, 114, 205, 207, 248, 279, 316, 419, 641, 711, 720, 807, 850 kilometers.

The state of the M-8 Kholmogory highway is basically normal, especially with regards to the section to Yaroslavl. The section from Yaroslavl to the Kast River requires serious repairs, and the section from Dvinsky Bereznyak to Velsk is also not perfect.
