Grüner See is at the top of every serious diver's blue dream list. This small reservoir changes depending on the season: in winter, only a shallow pond is visible here, surrounded by a picturesque valley; in the spring, the Grüner See overflows its banks, turning the surrounding park into a real magical kingdom.

Grüner See is located near the Austrian village of Trages. Getting to her seasoned tourists prefer on foot - a walk, however, is not easy.

In spring, meltwater flows down from the surrounding mountains in Grüner See. A small pond turns into a beautiful and deep lake in a matter of days.

From July to mid-May, the lake looks something like this.

But in the spring everything changes here. The water is very clear and very cold - quite recently it was an ice crust.

Tourists try to get to the Grüner See during this period, when the lake is especially beautiful. Divers are especially attracted by this unusual body of water.

The literal translation of Grüner See is Green Lake. The etymology of the name is clear to everyone who has ever seen his emerald clear waters.

A rich life is in full swing here: snails, daphnia, small crabs and even some species of trout consider the lake their home.

But, the excessively rocky bottom prevents the plants from taking root.

The maximum water level occurs in June. And we will see this bench again - however, from a slightly different angle.

Bridge under water.

And here is the bench, usually standing on the shore of the lake.

That is why the lake is so loved by divers. Diving here is like diving into a classic German fairy tale.

In the mid-90s, activists from the Alliance For Nature launched a petition demanding that the Grüner See be protected at the state level.

The Austrian government listened to the "greens" and now Grüner See has been declared a conservation area.

However, it was possible to do without it. The beauty of the lake is so unreal that even the most unpleasant tourist will not dare to deliberately harm it.

Hotels, restaurants and museums located under the surface of the water, you will no longer surprise the sophisticated tourist. But the Gruner See park in Austria, although it has existed for many years, remains one of the most amazing places European old ladies.

parks, striking beauty and a unique magical atmosphere, there are not so many in the world, but still quite enough to leave the hateful work office from time to time and feed the body decrepit from the bustle of megacities with new impressions. The geography of such pleasures is wide, as well as the range of emotions caused by visiting these lovely corners of paradise. However, the Austrian park "Gruner See" (literally - Green Lake), located at the very foot of snow-capped peaks Hochshwab stands out from all the others. It sprawled… under the water.

If you come to the Grüner See during the winter period (October to May), you will see a quite banal, although not without natural charm picture: intricately curving paths draw a winding path to decorative ponds, and graceful bridges and benches give intelligence and comfort to an unusually clean and breathing special freshness park. The geographical proximity of the Alps is confirmed by many small streams flowing from the surrounding mountains, but the depth of the lake itself does not exceed a few meters.

All the fun begins in late spring, when the massive glaciers of the surrounding mountains melt. With those modest and inconspicuous streams that quietly and peacefully carried their waters to the lake in winter, a serious metamorphosis takes place by the will of nature: they turn into powerful and stormy water streams that feed the lake so much that it overflows its banks and absorbs almost all park area. The water level most often rises from 4 to 8 meters, but peculiar records have also been recorded - 12 meters at the deepest point.

The uniqueness of the lake is given not so much by the fact of the melting of glaciers in the surrounding mountains, but by the crystal clearness of the melt waters, providing an excellent overview of everything that they have absorbed. This is how nature connects the underwater and terrestrial worlds in one place of indescribable beauty. Fish scurrying back and forth between the benches, as if the leaves of trees come to life under the influence of water flows, the sun's rays and glare carelessly strolling along the bottom - the feeling of paradise is closer than ever, and the fact of being under water does not bother you at all. At the very bottom, alpine meadows are actively blooming, and this creates a unique impression of a juicy green color, from which, in fact, the name of the place came from. And divers diving into the water, who have long and firmly chosen the Green Lake, give the picture a special piquancy.

Speaking of divers. The desire to dive into the clear waters of the lake and explore all its delights is quite understandable and natural, but this can only be done with a special diver card that allows scuba diving. There is no need to carry everything you need with you. There is a base near the lake where you can get a full set of scuba diving equipment and the corresponding permit. True, no more than 80 divers can be present on the lake at the same time. The closest attention is paid to security issues, and this is quite justified: no one wants to overshadow this wonderful tale with any tragic events.

You can also have great fishing here. True, for a "modest" amount of 18 euros for each kilogram of fish caught (trout and crabs live in the lake, among other freshwater inhabitants). But the pleasure of fishing in one of the most beautiful places in the world is worth it, isn't it?

According to the assurances of tourists, it is very difficult to leave the lake: the heart stubbornly does not want to let go of this paradise. Meanwhile, with the release summer season to the finish line, Green Lake loses its underwater magic and turns into just a convenient and a nice place for recreation and fishing. Exactly for a year, until the glaciers hiding somewhere nearby in the mountains begin to slowly die again, giving life to one of the most wonderful parks on our planet.

The Austrian region of Styria boasts one of the most impressive natural monuments - the Grüner See underwater park.

In another way, translated into Russian, the park is called Green Lake, which is associated with the color of its crystal clear, but at the same time emerald water. This color is given to the pond by grass and bushes, which in in large numbers grow at the bottom of the lake, covering it with a green carpet.

From August to April, the surroundings of the reservoir - popular place for romantic walks. Therefore, the coastal area with green lawns is equipped with benches for those who are ready to watch the emerald water of the lake for hours. An even more picturesque view of the water opens from a specially equipped bridge.

However, this is not all the sights of the Green Lake of Styria. The reservoir is located at the foot of the karst Hochschwab Mountains. From a height of 776 meters above sea level, streams and streams begin to flow in spring, filling the Grüner See with water.

This is due to the melting of snow and glaciers in the mountains. If before the arrival of spring the depth of the lake is only 1-2 meters, then the melt water floods it by another 5-6 meters, and sometimes by as much as 8 meters.

At the same time, the visibility of the bottom of the reservoir remains excellent, with great weather- to the very depths, into which one is drawn to plunge. But the lake is by no means warm, the water temperature, as a rule, does not cool down to more than 4 degrees Celsius. Despite this, during the period of flooding, Green Lake is a real haven for divers and everyone who wants to walk along the bottom, sit on underwater benches - in spring some hide under water - and enjoy the view, so to speak, from the inside.

Sunlight streaming through the water makes the pond look irresistible, and the bright lawns look like fairy tale landscapes. In spring, water completely floods even a small bridge, to which tourists who have visited Styria try to get on foot with scuba gear along the bottom. All travelers share the same facts, namely, they say that through the mask you can easily see lake inhabitants: trout, crustaceans, river snails and crabs.

At the beginning of July, gradually, day after day, the water begins to leave the lake, it becomes smaller and smaller. Therefore, you should not miss the opportunity to swim and see a scuba diving pond in late May or early June, but the nearby dive center is open even after the end of the diving season. It also houses lifeguards and law enforcement officers in the area.
