What to look for when renting a house

  1. Are there mosquito nets on the windows (mandatory, otherwise you will either have to close the windows all the time or be bitten by mosquitoes)
  2. Does the refrigerator, air conditioner, water heater work
  3. Do you need sockets? We brought extensions
  4. Does the toilet stink, is there ventilation
  5. Does the shower drain well? A standard shower in Thailand is water pouring onto the floor and flowing down a pipe and out into the street. If the floor in the shower is laid with a slight slope or no slope at all, the water will stagnate and there will be a swamp in the bath
  6. Is the house next to a public trash can? In the heat, the smells are very strong
  7. Is there a good road leading to the house? Will it wash away if it starts to rain?
  8. It is also desirable to see what kind of people live in neighboring houses. We've been lucky so far, we don't have noisy neighbors and little screaming children
  9. Is there a swamp or river near the house? If there is, get ready for mosquitoes
