Sights of Budva on the map with a description. Zelena Pijaca food market. Excursion Tara and Moraca Canyons

In short, Budva has everything you need for have a great holiday. Here good beaches - we especially recommend and. It will be interesting to go to the beach. The water in Budva is very clean and quite warm, as for Montenegro - the island of St. Nicholas covers the bay from cold currents. The main advantage of Budva in this regard is the real sea here, and in, and - just a bay.

If you decide to relax in Budva, you will not have any problems with it, there are a lot of small restaurants and fast food eateries. We do not recommend taking it to Budva - throw away your money in vain. By the way, we highly recommend trying them - they are really very tasty and environmentally friendly - there is no industry at all in the country. We especially liked the figs.

Tourists in Budva are in most cases satisfied - you can read one of the ones that was sent to us.

Apartments in Budva can be found for almost every taste. There are also chic rooms with swimming pools (albeit on the street) and more modest lounges. Mostly tourists rent housing local residents. This is called Villa and is almost the main income of the Budva people.

If you get to Budva, be sure to visit Old city And . These are the most beautiful corners cities.

Sights of Budva

Most of Budva is new buildings. There are often buildings five or more stories high. For Montenegro, this is not typical. Firstly, almost all houses in the country are old stone, and secondly, Montenegrins usually build two- or three-story villas. Nevertheless, there are many interesting sights in Budva, including historical ones.

Old city

The main attraction of Budva is its Old Town. The most beautiful corners of the city and most of its attractions are concentrated here. You will be able to see a massive fortress wall surrounding low stone buildings. The interweaving of narrow winding streets, stone pavement and medieval coloring made us incredibly delighted. It is scary to think that in 1979, after a powerful earthquake, all this was destroyed almost to the ground. And then it was restored by the painstaking work of the industrious Montenegrin people.

Most beautiful view on Old city Budva opens from the fortress walls of the citadel located here:

Churches in the Old City:

1 Church of Saint John- marvelous beautiful temple V gothic style. Finding the church is not difficult. You can easily recognize it by the bell tower that towers over the city. This catholic church in the 7th century (this is the 600s) and then rebuilt several times. Stored here Budva Mother of God- an icon painted by the Most Holy Luke and considered miraculous. She is revered by both Catholics and Orthodox. The church is also famous for its library and archives and is considered calling card cities.

2 Church of St. Mary "in Punta" very small and unremarkable at first glance, built in 840. Previously, there was a rather large Benedictine monastery in Budva, but only a small church has survived. If during the walk you see that the doors to the church are open, do not hesitate to come in. Unfortunately, most often this church is locked and it is impossible to enter it.

3 Church of the Holy Trinity- This is an Orthodox church, built in 1804 at the numerous requests of believers. It is distinguished by the typical Byzantine style and monumentality of the structure.

Saint Nicholas Island

Saint Nicholas Island gets its name from a 16th-century church. Apart from it, there are no other buildings here - the island is completely uninhabited. Locals often call it Hawaii. Getting there is very simple: just take one of the boats that regularly run between Budva and the island. Such a pleasure costs about 5 euros in both directions.

By the way, readers of our blog and traveled to the island.

We invite you to admire the beaches on the island of St. Nicholas in the form of a three-dimensional panorama that can be rotated in all directions:

Mogren beaches (or rather the road to them)

One of the most beautiful beaches in the area. The road to the beaches from the Old Town will be especially pleasant. Just imagine: on the left there is a low cliff, on which they crash sea waves, and rocks overhang to the right. To get to the beach you have to walk along a narrow path and even overcome a tiny grotto. All the way will be open amazing views to the Old Town and the island of St. Nicholas.

Beaches in Budva

There are three beaches directly in Budva:, and. On many sites you will find a description of Budva with a huge number of different beaches, but remember that you have to get on or . In our opinion, this is not always justified.

Slavic beach (Slovenska Plaza)

This is one of the largest and most spacious beaches in Budva. It has everything you might need: comfortable sunbeds (there were 10 euros each), changing cabins, a shower, WiFi (for an extra charge). There are a lot of restaurants, cafes, fast food and souvenir shops on the embankment. The beach itself is completely sandy and quite comfortable. The only negative is that there are usually a little more tourists here than free space. Of course, there are enough places on sunbeds, but vacationers with towels have to make room. So if you, like us, prefer to save a little on sunbeds (we sunbathed on towels), and instead visit a couple, you will have to come to the beach early. Although if you rested in Sudak, then you are no strangers. The number of tourists here is comparable rather with the New World (maybe a little more).

In the panorama shown here, the elite part. In reality, the sunbeds here are simpler and there are more tourists.

Mogren beaches

Very comfortable, albeit expensive. The sunbeds are straight here twice as expensive than on (for 20 euros), exactly the same with drinks and food. But this is more than offset by the amazing beauty of the place, and especially the roads to the beaches. The bottom of the beach is quite gentle, suitable for children. The water here is warmer and cleaner.

Beach near the Old Town of Budva

The smallest beach in Budva. In essence, it is not much different from. Well, except perhaps because the nearest souvenir shops and cafes are located in the Old Town. Almost half of the beach is separated for vacationers from nearby hotels. Instead of standard plastic sunbeds, wooden ones are installed there, umbrellas are also better. But the prices are several times higher. In general, in Budva You can find holidays for every budget.

Excursions from Budva

Budva is considered the most tourist city Montenegro, and therefore the most is offered here. We opted for Decided not to overload this article with photos, so if you are interested in the tour, just open it in a new window.

Bay of Kotor

One of the simplest and short excursions. In the morning we left by bus and almost immediately transferred to a small boat. We visited a church located on a man-made island. The church has a very interesting museum. Departing from the island, we admired the monastery on the island of St. George, which is very connected. The next stop was in the town of millionaires. Having sailed enough on the boat, we finally said goodbye to him on the pier - one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Montenegro, famous for its fortress walls (the second after the Great Wall of China).

Canyons of Tara and Moraca

I think it is the most beautiful and important excursion in Montenegro. It is also the most difficult - it will take about 14 hours to go. During the excursion we visited, drove along, made a short stop on and visited the national one. All the way we were accompanied by really amazing and picturesque landscapes. In general, I simply do not have words to describe the beauty we saw.

Monastery tour

I think that every sincere believer should visit this tour. We managed to visit monasteries and.

Journey Herceg Nova Bay

This is the most pleasant and calm of the excursions we have visited, which took place almost entirely on a small boat. The guides did not overload tourists with information, and there was practically no need to walk. We had breakfast right on the boat, and then visited the city, which is considered the botanical garden of Montenegro -. Then we jumped from the ship to two small boats right on the open sea. How experienced tourists, we immediately went to the bow, hung our legs overboard and enjoyed the ship's rolling and sea spray flying in the face. When we were taken to, we were soaked to the skin and were almost on the verge of euphoria. The tour continued with a visit to the previously closed presidential beach -. After that, we rode for a long time, we had lunch right on the boat and even swam in the open sea. In general, a lot of positive impressions.

Individual excursions in Montenegro from Budva

It is far from convenient and comfortable for everyone to get up early in the morning, ride huge tourist buses, attend standard excursions with guides hurrying somewhere and wait for fellow travelers who are always late.

If opportunities allow, you can take a closer look at from local residents or our compatriots who have long moved to Montenegro. It sometimes costs more, but the level of comfort is much higher: a car instead of a bus, a guide that adapts to your wishes, a flexible excursion program.

Of the huge number of sites that promise excursions from Budva, I would like to highlight three:

  • We highly recommend this resource. Here are the most low prices and a very large selection of excursions in Montenegro. Before buying, you can discuss the details with the guide, get advice and make adjustments to the route. Since most of the excursions here are private, people work not only for money, but also for a good image.
  • – Excursions here are a little more expensive, but there are very unusual and interesting options that you can’t buy at an agency and organize yourself.
  • - here excursions look more expensive, but this is because

Old Budva

The heart of Budva, where the main historical sights are concentrated, is the Old Town, which is a medieval quarter on a rocky peninsula, with towers and high walls and gates surrounding them. As a rule, it is from here that most tourists begin their acquaintance with ancient city, surrounded by huge boulders from the Adriatic Sea. Hikers will appreciate the centuries-old narrow streets and small squares surrounded by cafes, restaurants and bars. The historical part of the city was badly damaged by the 1979 earthquake and it took almost 10 years to restore everything anew.

Budva is famous for its ancient religious buildings. On Starogradskaya Square, in the center of Old Budva, 4 churches were located at the same time.

The Church of St. John, belonging to the Catholic denomination, dates back to the 7th century. In the 17th century, the temple was rebuilt and only the foundation remained from the original building. The bell tower towering above the city was erected only in the 19th century. The church has a rich interior decoration with old icons. The most valuable is the painting depicting the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus, dating from the 13th century. Budva Mother of God is the patroness of the city.

Nearby is the Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, which stands out from total number medieval buildings with its "youth" - its construction is attributed to 1804. Despite its small age, it is this church of Old Budva, erected in the traditional Byzantine style, that attracts tourists the most. Main entrance The temple is decorated with a beautiful mosaic depicting the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The picture almost completely copies the medieval icon of the Russian painter Andrei Rublev. The pride of the religious monastery is the gilded iconostasis, made in the Baroque style by the Greek Naom Zetiri at the end of the 19th century.

The other side of the square is occupied by the Catholic Church of St. Mary "in punta" - on the cape. The construction of the church by Benedictine monks dates back to the 9th century. This building is considered the oldest in Budva. Interior spaces The cloisters are decorated with ancient frescoes and paintings. Currently, the temple is not active. Thanks to excellent acoustics, classical music concerts are often held here.

Another one of the oldest Orthodox churches city - the Church of St. Sava, is very close. The foundation of the shrine dates back to 1141. It received its name not by chance - according to legend, it was from this place that Saint Sava of Serbia began his pilgrimage to Jerusalem. The temple is not active, but inside it there are remains of ancient frescoes dating back to the 12th century.

Along with medieval churches, the Citadel, which has been protecting the city since the 10th century, is very popular. During its history, the fortress, located on the very high point city, experienced more than one destruction and was rebuilt many times. The building that appears before tourists today was erected in the first half of the 19th century. There is a beautiful view from the walls of the ford. Currently, the castle annually holds a theater festival in July-August, during which tourists can see various performances and listen to live music. A visit to the fortress is paid, but the price includes a tour of the maritime museum and the library, with a collection of old books about the Balkans.

If you think that there is nothing to see in New Budva, then you are greatly mistaken. The lack of historical sights here is compensated by a large number of entertainments. All hotels, hotel complexes, shopping and entertainment centers, restaurants and cafes are located here.

The symbol of Budva is a sculpture of a ballerina made of bronze, located between the Old Town and Mogren Beach. Undoubtedly the most big interest guests of Montenegro are evoked by the historical part of Budva, the so-called Stari Grad. It is surrounded by thick stone walls, behind which hides amazing beauty a town where the past harmoniously intertwines with the present.

Walking through the labyrinth of picturesque narrow streets of Old Budva, you can see ancient churches, beautiful squares and magnificent luxury mansions. Among the religious sights of Budva, the ruins of an ancient basilica built in the 5th century take pride of place. The building was almost completely destroyed, but archaeologists managed to save the mosaic, which is over 1500 years old.

In the very center of Old Budva, on a small Starogradskaya square, there are four churches at once. catholic church St. John is usually dated to the 7th century, although, in fact, only the foundation remained from its original. The rest of the part was rebuilt in the 17th century, during the times of the Venetian Republic. The bell tower towering above the rest of the buildings, the chime of which can be heard even in the New Town, was completed even later, in the 19th century.

Literally a few meters away Orthodox Church Holy Trinity, Byzantine style. It was erected in 1804; the iconostasis created by a Greek icon painter is noteworthy.

  • Do not miss:

Unique religious artifacts are stored here, and inside the building is decorated with paintings and ancient frescoes. Unfortunately, this temple is not currently active, as is the nearby Church of St. Sava, built in 1141. All these shrines were built in different time and in different styles, however, give the impression of a harmonious architectural ensemble.

Museum and Citadel

For those interested in history, a must see Archaeological Museum in the Old City. It has collected more than 3 thousand exhibits, aged from 2500 to 300 years, which can tell a lot about the history of Budva and Montenegro.

By the way, the excavations continue, and each time they find new evidence of a rich historical past. Recently, the ruins of a Roman and Greek necropolis with ceramics and precious jewelry have been discovered. The discovery has become one of the most significant archaeological events in Europe in recent years.

One of the main attractions of Budva - Citadel, which repeatedly defended the city from invaders. The first fortifications were erected in the 10th century. For my thousand years of history the building was repeatedly destroyed almost to the ground, but each time it was rebuilt. The citadel in its present form was built at the beginning of the 19th century.

From the walls of the fortress offers a wonderful view. Here you can spend hours looking at Budva spread out below and into the endless sea distance. A few kilometers away you can see the island of St. Nicholas, it is also called the local Hawaii, and a little further you can see the silhouette of a luxurious, important landmark of Montenegro.

Entrance to the fortress is paid, 2 euros, the price includes a visit maritime museum and libraries with old books about the Balkans, in different languages.

The main legend of Budva

On the bas-relief of the Citadel, you can see two fish holding each other by the tail. This is not just a stone tablet, it is a symbol of Budva. An urban legend tells a touching love story between the poor stonemason Marco and the beautiful Elena, from a noble family.

Elena's parents were against their union, and then the lovers jumped into the sea from a cliff, holding hands. Barely touching the water, the couple turned into two fish, and one of the witnesses of this miracle said: “ Ko jedno nek budu dva", which literally translated from Montenegrin means" Let two be as one».

According to the same legend, the name of the city came from the last two words ( budu dva - Budva). Later, a stone slab was found in Marco's house, on which two intertwined fish were carved. The image was immured into the wall of the city's Citadel, and since then, according to legend, everyone who touches it will make their love strong as a stone.

New town

There is something to see in modern Budva. Literally a couple of tens of meters from the walls of the Old City, the embankment begins with a pier, along which moored with the flags of many countries. In the evenings, the picture is transformed, beautiful lights are turned on, and fishermen who return from the sea and take out their daily catch add local color.

Between Stari Grad and Mogren Beach is another attraction of Budva: a bronze sculpture of a dancer, or a ballerina, as she is more commonly called. A tragic legend is also associated with her, this time about the bride of a sailor who once did not return from a long voyage.

The girl came ashore every day and peered into the distance, hoping to see the ship of her beloved on the horizon, but he still did not return. Months passed, then years, and one day the dancer, who had been faithful to her betrothed all this time, died on the shore from longing. The sculpture is considered one of the symbols of Budva, as well as a symbol of love and devotion. Many make wishes near her.

In general, the lack of historical sights in New Budva is more than compensated by the presence of a large selection of various recreational areas. In the modern part there are hotels, entertainment and shopping centers, restaurants and cafes.

An ideal place for a family pastime is an amusement park with a wide range of attractions, swimming pools and water slides. Night club « Trocadero» will appeal to fans of energetic dances and costume parties. One of the most popular discos in the city is located on the Slavic beach. The music here does not stop until dawn.

Vicinities of Budva

Among the sights in the vicinity of Budva, it is worth highlighting the current Podmaine Monastery, built in the 15th century. The temple is located in picturesque place, on a hill, within walking distance of the Old Town.

In general, the highlight of the Budva Riviera, in fact, is precisely the abundance of ancient churches and monasteries, shrouded in a halo of historical mystery and surrounded by marvelous landscapes. Montenegro is known as a country rich in temples, they are scattered throughout the territory. Only along the coast in the vicinity of Budva there are eight of them, from the thirteenth to the eighteenth century.

An equally important historical landmark of Budva is the Mogren Castle surrounded by high stone walls, or rather, what is left of it. From its observation decks a beautiful view of the city opens. True, getting to it is not very convenient. Mogren Beach is located near the castle, along which you can find many souvenir shops and restaurants.

Budva is like Moscow in Russia - noisy, active and "non-rubber". Montenegrin Budva is criticized, but still every year this city collects a huge number of tourists. We were lucky - the first time we rested in Budva back in 2011 and it was more calm, cheap city. Currently, Budva is very much built up. Soon there will be no free space here: huge anthill hotels are being built. Every piece of land is occupied with something.

If you like action, discos and nightlife, then, most likely, you will like it in Budva, but get ready to look for your “place in the sun” on the beach.

But we will not talk about sad things, let's return to the main topic of today's conversation - the sights of Budva.

Among the sights we will consider:

Well, in order to better navigate, we traditionally lay out a map of Budva with marked sights.

Sights of Budva on the map:

Old city and fortress

View of Old city Budva and fortress.

The Old Town of Budva is not much inferior to the Old Town in Kotor. Yes, it is a little smaller, but there are the same narrow pleasant streets, expensive restaurants, churches, souvenir shops. But the main attraction here is the Citadel (fortress), from which the whole of Budva is visible.

Entrance to the fortress is paid - 3 € per person. Inside there is a large library with a collection of old books in different languages, a collection of coins, paintings and pottery.

But the main thing is the view that opens from the top of the fortress. We advise you to go up here in the evening to see Budva at sunset or the starry night sky.

Houses in the old town of Budva. By the way, local residents live in these houses, and some of them are hotels and hostels. But we do not recommend renting a house here, because. in the evenings in the old city a lot of people. The buildings are old, and the rental prices are going through the roof.

View of a part of the fortress wall, concerts and festivals often take place here.

The streets of the old town are a visiting card and one of the main attractions of Budva.

There are many cafes, shops and souvenir shops.

A small museum in the fortress with a library.

The museum presents mainly dishes and models of old ships with cannons.

Embankment of Budva

The embankment of Budva is very long, duplicated by a footpath with cafes and parks. The embankment starts from the old town and ends with a pedestrian tunnel that connects Budva with Becici.

There are a lot of cafes and restaurants on the waterfront for every taste and budget. In the evening, tables, soft pillows and candles are placed on the beach.

Near the old Budva there are many sightseeing boats that work as a taxi or individual excursions. Also moored here expensive yachts premium.

A section of the embankment near the old town and the citadel.

If you walk to the right from the old town of Budva to Mogren beach, you can see another attraction - a monument to a ballerina or dancer, who always has a lot of people who want to be photographed. It offers a beautiful view of the citadel and the old city.

We also decided to touch the beautiful ....

And this is the path leading to Mogren Beach (but about it in the next article).

In the evening, tables are set up on the promenade and part of the beach.

Saint Nicholas Island (Hawaii)

This is another attraction of Montenegrin Budva. The island of St. Nicholas or Hawaii can be reached by boat from the Slavic beach.

Trip price:

3 € - round trip;
5 € - round-trip + a circle around St. Stephen with an inspection of the Budvar Riviera from the water.

The island itself is small, has several beaches.

There are only 2 cafes on the territory, there are no shops. Prices in cafes are more expensive than in the city.

You can spend the whole day on the beach. The cost of 2 sun loungers + umbrella is from 10€ to 15€. This figure may vary from season to season.

You can’t walk deep into the island - everything is blocked by fences, so here you can only swim, sunbathe and jump from rocks (entertainment for extreme people).

The beaches are pebbly, there are large stones in the water, it is better to take special shoes.

The water on the island seemed colder to us than on the city beaches of Budva.

There is a lot of shade on the island from the rocks, so you can do without umbrellas.

Another beach on the island.

The water on the island is cleaner than on the beaches of Budva, but colder.

Prices and timetables for boats to the island of St. Nicholas. The €4 option is just a walk along Sveti Stefan, they don't drop you off.

St Stephen's Island

Another main attraction of Budva is the island of St. Stephen. Despite the fact that the island is already outside of Budva, it is still the hallmark of Budva. And by the way, you can walk to Sveti Stefan. The road will take about 2 hours at a leisurely pace (8 km from the old town). We reached Sveti Stefan twice on foot, and went back by bus to Budva.

St. Stephen from the observation deck (by the way, the island is very capricious for filming, we went to it three times to take photos, the island is often in a haze or in the shade).

Near the island there is a small beautiful pine park.

....And sand beach with sunbeds for 100 euros!!!

On the map is an approximate route, how you can get from Budva to Sveti Stefan.

Read more about Saint Stephen in our next article.

And now we will tell a little about the entertainment for adults and children that is in Budva.

Aquapark Budva

Budva Aquapark. Prices depend on the season and duration of the visit. Children under 100 cm in height are admitted free of charge.

Here are the prices in the photos:

Opening hours: from 10:00 to 19:00 in July and August, and from 10:00 to 18:00 in June and September. Yes, the season in Montenegro is not very long. Wi-Fi paid - 1 € per day. Has its own parking.

It takes only 10 minutes to drive from the old town of Budva to the water park.

Attractions and discos

In the evenings in Budva, attractions begin to work on the embankment. Basically, these are various swings-carousels for children. Adults can ride on the circuit. Discos are also starting to work right on the waterfront.

Music for an amateur, loud swotting.

The entrance is free. The girls are actively trying to invite passers-by. Dancers are dancing on the bar counters. All clubs/bars/restaurants located on the waterfront are open until 12 midnight. Then everything is quiet.

Nightclub Budva under the open sky.

And of course, one should not lose sight of, in our opinion, a very important attraction of Budva and Montenegro as a whole - the beaches, which we will discuss in more detail in the next article.

In the meantime, we wish you all a pleasant stay!
