Although more than 20 years have passed, absolutely nothing has changed. Looking ahead, I emphasize that for all 4 days of my stay at the hotel on Lanzheron beach, I have never swum. There are a couple of reasons for this: firstly, I came to Odessa to see my friends and study the disputed Ukrainian-Moldovan border, and secondly, even without Odessa, I am spoiled above the roof by the sea and the sun (and now, sitting in 34 degree heat, I dream of ice age), fortunately, from my house to the sea five minutes on foot. And yet, this obvious mess and shabbyness has its own charm. This is far from Antalya, here is a lousy service for a lot of money, here swindlers cut money at every step, and yet ...
As you already understood from the first lines of this post, I am not a fan of the sea, because I myself live near the sea for many years. I perfectly understand those who once a year go to the sea and dream about it - the situation is different there. Moreover, any different seas, oceans and lakes have seen a myriad, so there is something to compare. And here's what I'll say - nowhere you will meet so many beautiful girls as on Odessa beaches. Their concentration. As the Georgian who lived in my hotel said: "We have the same sea in Batumi, but there are no such girls." He and I came to the conclusion that if you remove the female component of the landscape from the beaches, then there will be mortal longing against the backdrop of a lack of infrastructure, a rather wretched environment and general unkemptness. And it's true: it seems to be the second most important city in Ukraine, and not a penny has been invested in the recreation area since the collapse of the USSR. For some time, you can pull on the old resource, but then what?
Looking at the following photos, you might think that the beaches of Odessa are packed with vacationers. But it's not. The fact is that all sorts of crooks, covered by the police, took away most beaches and introduced entry fees to "landscapes". 4. Shower 3-5 hryvnia.
Let me remind you that for $ 1 they give 8 hryvnia. Accordingly, you give 7 + 50 + 5 + 5 = 67 hryvnias (8 dollars) for the right to lie down on the shore. With an average salary in the city of $200 and an average pension of $50, this is a killer amount.
Add to this the price collusion of all beach restaurants and cafes. You will not dine anywhere for less than 100 hryvnia ($13). Offers "business lunch for 30 hryvnia", posted closer to dinner, should not be taken literally. As we were told in one cafe: "If you are satisfied with mashed potatoes with chopped tomato and a glass of mineral water, consider that you have had lunch, this is a business lunch." As a comparison, in my favorite chain of restaurants "Puzata Hata" you can really have a decent lunch for 30 hryvnias, you will be given not only soup, salad and rice / mashed potatoes, but even a cutlet. And for 100 hryvnias we ate at the "Puzata Hut" together, including kvass and sweets.
By the way, as soon as I left Odessa, the people took the law into their own hands (more precisely, into the hands of a hero " Star Wars") and at least temporarily demolished the limitless barriers, driving away the collectors of money. Beauty, don't you think? Darth Vader himself took up the matter.
People who do not want to pay their money to crooks are forced to shower in city drains. Looks like a real nightmare. Both adults and children bathe there. According to the locals, the water there is "clean". When asked why they thought it was clean, the answer was: "well, it doesn't stink."

As soon as I approached the water and took off my jeans (not even for the purpose of swimming, but just to wet my feet), a gloomy-looking person appeared and said that the beach was paid and I owed him 50 hryvnias. Being sent nafig, he offered "at least 10 ...". But the mood to enter into any "business" relations with them did not arise, I answered "sue me." He chuckled, "What a greedy you are" and left. Then the experts told me, they say, there is nothing to quarrel with the protection of the beach in vain, go woo-o-he there, there is a piece of the beach for free. But it was lazy. Returned to the hotel. Tomorrow I say goodbye to Odessa.
