Baiyoke Sky in Bangkok is the tallest hotel and observation deck. Baiyoke Sky - Bangkok's tallest building and tourist attraction

Bangkok was built in the delta, in the recent past its territory was riddled with a network of canals, now mostly filled up and turned into highways. Height above sea level is only two meters. Within a radius of fifty kilometers from there is not a single natural hill, and even the capital was built on a place called the "Swamp of Cobras." That's why everything viewpoints in bangkok have man-made nature. These include the artificial hills under the temple complexes, and the open terraces of restaurants located on the roofs of skyscrapers. We offer you a description of several points of the most successful, from our point of view, for a panoramic view of this giant human anthill.

MahaNakhon

On August 29, 2016, the new and tallest skyscraper in Bangkok (from Thai means "Megapolis") was opened with a height of 314 meters and 77 floors. The skyscraper is notable for its "pixel facade", which resembles the mutilated buildings by aliens in the movie "Pixels". Here guests are presented with a panoramic observation deck with a circular view of 360 °. Since this tower is located far from Baiyoke Sky, the contemplation of visitors opens up completely different and no less beautiful views.

Baiyoke II Tower

In (Baiyoke II Tower or Baiyoke Sky) with a height of 309 meters there is a chain of restaurants. On the 81st floor there is Bangkok Balcony with an open balcony, on the 82nd floor there is a Crystal Grill fish restaurant, and on the 83rd floor there is a bar with panoramic windows. The only rotating Bangkok's Baiyoke Sky is on its roof. If you don't feel like eating or drinking, exit the elevator on the 77th floor where the observation platform with telescopes, the use of which is paid, but not very expensive. There is also a small museum exhibition. All observation decks can be reached in an elevator with a glazed cabin on the outside of the building.

river vibe

This Bangkok viewpoint located in the so-called, next to Hualamphong Station. From the guest terrace of the River Vibe restaurant, located on the roof of the River View skyscraper guest house, offers a panoramic view of the river and located nearby. According to the reviews of those who have been there, the view of the capital is much better than that served there. A very democratic place where you will not be reminded of the need to comply with the dress code.

Golden Mount

Bulk mountain to the east of Royal Palace on which Wat Saket temple stands. It was called golden because of the chedi covered with gold. From the observation deck you can see several temples and royal avenue - local " Champs Elysees". The temple is active, so its visit is possible only in clothes that cover the shoulders and legs. This is a common requirement for all who visit historical Center Bangkok.

Park Society

This is the name of the restaurant located on the top floor of the Sofitel hotel. It's not the most impressive skyscraper of bangkok, it has some 29 floors. This catering point has a special “chip” - an open rooftop veranda, fenced with shock-resistant glass. Having climbed there, do not think that you have been transported to Manhattan - from the observation deck below you can see the green crowns of the trees of Lumpini Park, which is surrounded by skyscrapers. An inconspicuous staircase leads to the open veranda, marked with a sign that reads "Hi-So Only" - something like "only for high society”, but this is a kind of Thai humor, nothing more.

Moon Bar

This is a bar located on the rooftop of the Banyan Tree Bangkok hotel. Fully windswept observation deck of Bangkok with a low (waist-high) tempered glass fence. There are 61 floors to the ground, so the “roof-bar” format is perceived as a hangout place for those who like to climb higher. An excellent view of the Phra Pa Daeng area, called the "lungs of Bangkok" for its abundance of greenery. The strict dress code requirement is softened by the offer of trousers that can be worn directly over shorts.

Cloud 47

United Center - office tower in bangkok, 47 stories high. On the open veranda of the latter there is a Cloud 47 bar (Cloud 47). It is located near Lumphini Park and the station - Sala Daeng. When looking to the west, a bend is visible, winding through the stone jungle. To the east is the green expanse of the park. During the day, the bar is free, the party with live music starts at nine o'clock in the evening. The environment is democratic, no dress code required.

long table

The Long Table bar and restaurant is located on the 25th floor of the high-rise of the Column Hotel, located at Sukhumvit Soi, 16. The establishment is expensive, with a strict dress code. Particularly interesting is the view of the human anthill from six in the evening, when the tracks below are loaded with cars. There is a swimming pool on the veranda of the restaurant.

sky bar

View of Bangkok aerial view offers a bar Sky Bar, located on the 63rd floor of the State Tower - a skyscraper on the coast, noticeable for its gilded dome. The veranda is open, closed in a ring. On it you can walk and explore the metropolis in all directions of the world. The business district of Bang Rang, of which it is the visual dominant, does not imply the appearance of personalities in shorts, flip-flops and alcoholic T-shirts.

Temple Wat Arun

Temple of the Dawn, located on the right bank the Chao River Praia is considered one of the most beautiful. Its complex consists of five towers. The central one has the shape of an ear. It has two viewing platforms. Climbing them along very steep (almost vertical stairs) steps. Therefore, consider your physical condition. Although such a test is conceived by the builders of the temple on purpose. This is a symbol of the fact that it is not at all easy to reach the highest level of enlightenment.

At the very end of this calendar summer, on August 29, 2016, a solemn event was held in Bangkok - the opening of a new high-rise building - MahaNakhon(translated from Thai, the name translates as "Megapolis"). The construction of the skyscraper took five years, and the cost of its construction exceeded $412 million. As originally planned, the new building became the tallest in Bangkok and, of course, in all of Thailand, because its height is 314 meters. This is ten meters higher than Bangkok's famous skyscraper, Baiyoke Sky, which has been the country's tallest building since 1997.

True, it is worth noting that we are talking about the height at roof level: thanks to a somewhat later completed antenna, Bayok Sky has a height of 328 meters. It can also be noticed that when higher altitude, new skyscraper MahaNakhon in Bangkok has only 77 floors, while Baiyoke Sky has 85. Both skyscrapers are located quite far from each other, because Megapolis was built in the business district of the city of Silom. A distinctive feature of the building, designed by the German architectural firm Büro Ole Scheeren, is its unusual "pixel facade", which you can see in the photos in this article.

By the way, the inhabitants of the city took such an unusual look ambiguously: some considered the appearance of the building to be a brilliant flight of design ideas, while others are sure that the building looks a little strange and does not resemble an ultra-modern skyscraper, which was opened less than a week ago, but a building that survived the cataclysm, which is now here it breaks down into several parts. In any case, the building leaves no one indifferent. However, it is quite possible that it was precisely such an unusual effect that the creators of Megapolis sought.

Regardless of visual assessments of appearance MahaNakhon residents of Bangkok and guests of the city, the building will obviously not be empty. It is already known today that such famous tenants as Bangkok Edition Hotel, Ritz-Carlton, shops and restaurants VOGUE Lounge, Dean & Deluca's Thailand, Morimoto and Joël Robuchon will occupy the Megapolis. Of course, there will be luxurious apartments in the building, while the cost of the most “budget” ones will be around $1 million, and the most expensive penthouses on the primary market are estimated at $17 million.

In the near future, a panoramic observation deck will be opened in MahaNakhon, from which everyone can see Bangkok from a bird's eye view of 360 degrees. And given the fact that the building is located far from Baiyoke Sky in Bangkok and provides completely different views, many will want to visit it. On the occasion of the completion of the construction of the tallest building in the capital and throughout the country, a grandiose light show was arranged (by the way, many are sure that it is at night that the building looks most majestic due to the illumination). By the way, since January 2017, you can see the Mahanakhon tower online, thanks to one of the site.

It is also worth noting that, unlike the Baiyoke Sky tower, which has been the tallest building in Thailand for 19 years, the new high-rise Megapolis will have such an honorary status for a very short time. in 2018, the Magnolias Waterfront Residences ICONSIAM building is to be completed, which will be 1 meter (315 meters) higher than the Megapolis. In addition, a much more grandiose construction is already underway in Bangkok - Rama IX Super Tower. And the new “super-tower”, the completion of which is scheduled for 2021, will exceed the height of the “Megapolis” not by just a few meters, but almost twice! And with a height of 615 meters, the building should be the tallest not only in Thailand, but throughout South-East Asia. By the way, with such a height, the “Rama 9 Super Tower” in Bangkok will be quite a bit inferior to the tallest buildings in all of Asia, which are located in Tokyo and Shanghai (whose heights are 634 and 632 meters, respectively).

Bangkok's Tallest Buildings - Visual Comparison (Click to Enlarge)

In the photo above, you can visually assess the height of the main skyscrapers in Thailand, which are all located in Bangkok. There you can also see how great the superiority in height will be for the “Super-Tower” currently being built. the first two buildings in the photo are under construction, so today we can confidently say that MahaNakhon in Bangkok is the most high building in Thailand!

304 meters - this is the height of the tallest building in Thailand.

By the way, Baiyoke Sky Hotel has several restaurants, starting from the cozy Sky Coffee Shop and Fruit Buffet on the 18th floor, and ending with the inimitable Bangkok Balcony, Crystal Grill and The Roof Top Bar, which are located on floors 81-83 and have an amazing and unique view of the city of Bangkok. Almost all of them are open until 24 hours, although one restaurant closes at one in the morning - all this can also be clarified on the website of the highest hotel in Thailand.

However, the main attraction of the hotel is the observation deck (observatory point), and it was she who won our hearts - after all, we did not stop at the hotel itself, but walked around the site to our heart's content!

Baiyoke Sky observation deck on the 77th and 84th floors

They say that in good weather from the Baiyoke observation deck you can even see Gulf of Thailand, which is located 25 kilometers from Bangkok.

However, high humidity and smoke, which permanently wraps up the capital of Thailand, did not allow us to accurately identify the sea somewhere on the horizon. Although, perhaps, if you look closely at our photos, then the outlines of the sea surface in the distance are still guessed.

Baiyoke Sky half an hour before sunset - view from the observation deck to Bangkok

So, the Baiyoke Sky observation deck is really impressive. How to get to it?

First way: stay at a hotel paying at least one night, which will cost you at least 2100 baht. Each hotel guest has free access to the treasured viewpoints

Second way suitable even for those who do not want to stay in an expensive hotel. The Baiyoke Sky observation deck is open to everyone from the street, although you will have to pay 300 baht (from 10 to 18 hours) or 400 baht (from 18:00 to 22:30) to visit it. Payment is made on the 1st or 18th floor at special cash desks. There is also a currency exchange. Nobody controls the amount of time you spend on the viewing platform, so the smartest tourists flock to the Bayyok Hotel around 17:00 or a little later. In this case, you can visit the site for $ 10 both before sunset and after it. It is worth noting that it gets dark very sharply in the tropics, and the daytime and evening views of Bangkok "from the sky" are significantly different.

Third way: as I mentioned above, there are several restaurants in the hotel. For customers of restaurants, the entrance to the observation decks of the 77th and 84th floors is free. However, the minimum order will cost you a little more than a regular ticket to the observation deck. There is clearly a logic to this, but this option may be the most interesting and profitable, depending on the current offers of restaurants, your plans for the evening and other circumstances.

How to get to Bayyok observation deck on the 77th floor?

The hotel has a special elevator that takes tourists clearly to the "Observation deck" (literally: "observation deck"). The great news is that this elevator has a completely transparent wall. If you have time to take a seat in the very depths of the elevator, then you will be lucky enough to see how the glass capsule of the elevator is gradually gaining height, and the view from the "window" is changing before your eyes. However, the elevator will take you to the floor marked "77" quite quickly, so make sure to capture these moments.

The 77th floor Baiyoke site is enclosed space. Apart from beautiful view here you can find stationary binoculars, information stands about the tallest building in Thailand, comic photo platforms, museum exhibits and all sorts of small chips. For example, on one of the tables we found a seal depicting the Baiyoke Sky Hotel. They didn’t come up with anything more original than putting a stamp on a 20 baht bill. Now we have a special banknote in our collection with the image highest skyscraper Thailand. :))))

Knock knock - one of the exhibits on the 77th floor)))

There is a small cafeteria at the end of a corridor that runs along a long window overlooking the city. Here, those who wish can arrange a snack for themselves or exchange the tear-off coupon of their entrance ticket for a free cocktail, juice or beer.

How do I get to the Baiyoke Sky revolving observation deck on the 84th floor?

After you have refreshed yourself with juice or a shake, you can proceed to the final part of the adventure on a skyscraper. A special elevator will take you to one of the last floors. Then you have to walk quite a bit on the stairs (so that the conquest of the peak seems more deserved). In the end, you will undoubtedly end up on a revolving observation deck (“revolving view point"). Polite hotel staff and signs in English and even in Russian will not let you get lost.

Please note that smoking on the rotating observation deck is strictly prohibited, and this is monitored by security (a large fine is provided). And this is good, because there are a lot of people there, everyone wants to breathe, and there is nowhere to put cigarette butts. According to my observations, many compatriots tried to smoke, having made a "difficult and long" way on two elevators from the 1st to the 84th floor. However, you should not do this - if anything, I warned you. 🙂

The spinning deck is a very windy place. This is facilitated by a height of 304 meters and a fairly fast rotation of the site. Nevertheless, we did not manage to freeze in the 40-degree heat at the top of the Bayyok Hotel. On the contrary, it was very comfortable and fresh!

84th floor - revolving view point Baiyoke Sky hotel

Despite all the splendor of the idea with rotation, photographing the city from a moving observation deck is not very convenient. Of course, you can get regular shots, but putting up a tripod, using a slow shutter speed for a night photo - this will already be unrealistic, because the whole picture will simply be smeared in motion at a slow shutter speed.

Another drawback of the observation deck on the 84th floor is the presence of plastic protection around the perimeter of the building. Photographing the city through scratched plastic is not very cool. Although small slots for the camera and hands can be found, so this problem is, in principle, solvable. The main thing is that it is absolutely impossible to accidentally fall out of this site - and this is important. Many people come here with their children - people of all ages like the place!

sky-bayoke- night view from the rotating observation deck on the 84th floor

At nightfall, the observation deck light show is also turned on, which probably looks cool from below, but from above it only interferes and lightens the footage a little.

Having seen enough of Bangkok from a bird's eye view, we returned to the 77th floor, where we found new ideas for photos. 🙂

Having gone down, we were incredibly surprised that a whole crowd of people who wanted to buy tickets to the observation deck had gathered at the entrance. When we bought tickets an hour and a half before, there was no queue at all! I believe that due to the greater flow of people after sunset, the cost of a night visit to the revolving observation deck increases by 100 baht. Although what is an extra hundred baht for tourists, many of whom may never return to Bangkok.

I also recommend watching the largest panoramic photo of Bangkok taken by a professional photographer from the Baiyoke Sky observation deck. It looks fascinating, plus the author signed the objects that are visible from the rotating platform of the 84th floor. It's really impressive!

MahaNakhon

In 2015 in Bangkok, a new tallest building in Thailand with an extraordinary "pixel" design should appear. The height of the MahaNakhon building currently under construction will be 314 meters, and according to the project, it will house shopping mall, a hotel and perhaps the most expensive apartments in Bangkok at a price of 1 to 11 million dollars! Since June 20, 2011, the Mahanakhon skyscraper in Bangkok has already been built, so it won't be long Baiyoke Tower Tower II to be in the lead in Tai! 🙂

Ocean 1 Tower in Pattaya

By 2016 in Pattaya (distance from Bangkok to Pattaya is 156 km) a 367-meter residential building is planned to be erected in the Jomtien Beach area. It is assumed that by the time Ocean 1 Tower is built in Pattaya, not only will it become the tallest building in Thailand, but it can also become the tallest fully residential building in the world.

However, in Dubai and Panama, there are also two fully residential developments in the planning stages that will have over 100 floors, so they will also qualify for this honorary title. Whether the Ocean 1 Tower will have time to become the tallest residential building on the planet depends largely on the builders in Panama and the UAE. At the same time, the Ocean 1 Tower Pattaya project is at the stage of adjusting the calculations of seismic safety and wind resistance. Oh, it's not an easy job to design skyscrapers!
