Gallura (Gallura)

In the northeast of Sardinia lies a mountainous province Gallura. The granite rocks of Gallura are over 300 million years old. All this time, waves and wind "worked" over the stones. And as a result of erosion, amazing "sculptures" have risen above the sea, resembling animal figures in appearance. One of these figures, a huge stone "bear" on a cape Capo D "Orso (Capo D" Orso), is the symbol of Gallura.

The largest beach in south coast Gallura called Isuledda (Isuledda). It is a long strip of white sand surrounded by juniper. Nearby is a 3-kilometer beach La Chinta covered with luxurious sand dunes.

One of the few pebbly beaches of Gallura - Spalmatore. It is located on a cape lying on the western coast of the island. Tavolara (Tavolara). On small island Budelli you will find a small beach Spiaggia Rosa (Spiaggia Rosa), which got its name because of the soft pink color of the sand on the shore. Hidden between high granite rocks, the beach from afar looks like a secluded Italian courtyard strewn with rose petals.

Very picturesque beach Capriccioli. This, in fact, is a lot of small sandy beaches, separated by rocky massifs protruding from the coast into clear sea waters. Fantastic "sculptures" made of pink granite are scattered over the beaches.

Oristano (Oristano)

Provinces Oristano, stretching along the western coast of Sicily for almost 100 km, is the most untouched area of \u200b\u200bthe island. Main river Oriztano - Tirso (Tirso), near the coast forms a system of lagoons and lakes, which is the most interesting "marsh" area in Europe.

Small sandy beach S "Archittu (S" Archittu) got its name due to the natural "bridge" of the same name - a through arch, washed out by waves in a long and narrow cape, outstanding deep into the sea. This is the largest such "bridge" in Sardinia. Due to the unusual landscape, the beach attracts many tourists during the season and is fully ready to receive vacationers. Spiaggia di S. Caterina di Pittinurri- medium-sized beach, Northern part which is sandy, and the southern one is pebbly. The bottom drops quite sharply, and the water, even near the shore, pleases the eye with a deep dark blue color.

6 km beach Is Arenas protected from the winds by an unbroken chain sand dunes, the longest in Sardinia. Unfortunately, in recent decades, this small "desert" (the only such area in Europe) has radically changed its appearance due to the greening of the coast. Today, most of the dunes are lined with pines and acacias, and only a few sand dunes remain untouched. Despite these changes, the beach itself has not lost its charm and may even have benefited from the picturesque green spaces. Is Arenaz is covered with light gray sand and is not too crowded even in the peak season, as it is quite far from major cities and highways.

Another quiet beach - S"Arena-Scoada (S"Arena Scoada). The sand on it is pure golden in color, the coastal waters resemble an emerald in a shade. It seems that you are on a deserted tropical island.

Sulcis (Sulcis)

Area Sulcis occupying southwestern part Sardinia, got its name from ancient city Sulci on the island Sant'Antioco (S.Antioco). Sulcis was the first site on the island to emerge from the waters of the Mediterranean and is an area rich in both mining, archeology and culture.

Amazing, pristine beach Piscinas consists of the purest white sand, which in some areas is formed by a powerful mistral into high (up to 30 m) dunes.

On a small island S.Pietro many wonderful beaches. Among them - La Concha- natural swimming pool surrounded by high cliffs. It is connected to the sea by a narrow passage between steep stone shores. When the island is in the arms of the mistral, La Concha is one of the most sheltered beaches from the violence of the hurricane. When the sirocco blows from the southeast, the sea between stone rocks becomes rough and unsafe for swimming.

Tourists from all over the world are attracted by the beauty and warm climate of Sardinia. This perfect place for beach holidays, swimming, diving and hiking. In addition, the island keeps a long history and retains its special flavor.

What to try?

The serving of food in the restaurants and cafes of the island largely depends on national traditions. For example, no matter how much you want, you will not be able to taste pizza before 19.00. Even if you are very hungry, you will not be able to eat anything substantial between 16.00 and 19.00 in the afternoon. At this time, you will be served only cold sandwiches with cheese and ham.

An exception can only be made in tourist restaurants, but they still need to be found. Local establishments offer a wide selection of original Italian dishes and local traditional ones. Of these, you should definitely try the following:

HOLIDAY PRICES:

Cost of holidays in Sardinia. June 2014.

tour cost

Visas + insurance for two cost 120 euros. Tickets for the Vilnius-Rome-Vilnius flight of Ryanair were bought through the network for 250 euros. From St. Petersburg to Vilnius by car and back 100 euros. The car was left with friends for free. From Rome, that is, from Civitavecchia, to Sardinia they traveled by ferry company Saremar. Tickets for it cost 150 euros. Apartment for 10 days - 360 euros, in the area called Isola Rossa, for 36 euros per day. It is more convenient to travel around Sardinia by car. Car rental + gasoline - 250 +150 euros. The car was booked through the well-known Hertz. She was waiting for us at Olbia airport.

All excursions were carried out independently, in a rented car. There are not many sights in the classical sense. But a lot beautiful places, beaches, etc. We went to a picturesque town called Castelcado. So you can see the ruins of an ancient castle and wander through the medieval streets of the center. Santa Teresa has a wonderful beach overlooking Corsica. A liter of gasoline costs 1.4 euros. We spent about 150 euros on gasoline for 10 days.

Food and products

Prices depend on the distance to the beaches and the main tourist routes. There are many chain stores where they are twice or even three times lower. To dine in our understanding, that is, with a hot dish, in a bar or restaurant on the beach, without frills, cost about 20-25 euros per person. Breakfast from 5 to 10 euros. In supermarkets, prices are about the same as ours, or even higher, for example, wines from 10 euros. In a cafe: Pizza - 10-12 euros. Beer - 3-4.5 euros. A cup of coffee - 1 euro. Sandwich - 3-5 euros. Sometimes we cooked ourselves, sometimes we went to a cafe. A day for food took about 50 euros.

Cost of services and entertainment

Umbrella on the beach - 8 euros for the whole day. Chaise lounge - 10 euros. Snorkeling mask - 10 euros. Broke quickly, apparently Chinese. Catamaran on the beach - 10 euros per hour.

June holiday experience

In June it was quite hot, the sea warmed up quite well, there were noticeably fewer people on the beaches than in August. The roads are not congested, prices are lower than at the end of summer. In my opinion this good time for relax.

Why is it better to relax in September?

It seems to me that September is the perfect time for a holiday in Sardinia, if you are not dependent on school holidays. Very warm, few tourists, housing prices are dropping noticeably, lots of local fruits and excellent wine.

Vacation with children

Sardinia has excellent beaches - clean, with good entry into the water and without strong waves near the coast. In terms of the number of children's entertainment, the island noticeably loses Spanish resorts, but many interesting museums and historical places worth seeing at school age.

What to take with you on vacation?

A good guide will not hurt, the island is worth it to carefully examine not the most popular attractions. Good sunscreen and comfortable shoes. Warm clothes if you are going to visit the caves.

Where is the best place to stay?

We have been to the island several times and traveled most resorts, I like the Costa Smeralda in the north and the Maddalena archipelago. We went many times and with different budgets, of the hotels I liked the Colonna Resort hotel in the town of Porto Cervo the most - they have wonderful clean pools and a good beach. Sardinia has a large selection of houses, villas, apartments for quite affordable prices, but it makes sense to rent a car - there are a lot of beaches, and it will definitely be interesting to drive along the coast. The Emerald Coast is located near the airport in Olbia, it is easy and fast to get there, in my opinion, this part of the island is more interesting than the south.

What to do at the resort?

First of all, of course, it is worth visiting different beaches - in Sardinia they are amazingly beautiful, clean and quite different.

We liked the caves of Iz Zuddas - inferior to the caves in Mallorca, but still very impressive.

It makes sense to travel on small picturesque towns, go to restaurants. If you are interested in nuraghe, then there are interesting ones in both parts of the island, we were in Prisgiona - it’s hard with children, but still interesting. Almost every city has interesting ruins, churches, basilicas and fortresses. Olbia has a good archaeological museum. If you have time and opportunity, then you should drive to the Maddalena archipelago - it is very beautiful there, on one of the islands there is the Garibaldi house-museum.

The beaches on the island (especially on the Costa Smeralda) are wonderful, it is very difficult to single out the best one, among not the most popular, but very beautiful, I want to mention the beaches near the village of La Conia (Barka Bruchata and Mannen) - there are several more, you can walk along the small paths.

On the Spiaggia Bianca beach near Golfo Aranci we saw a pod of dolphins several times.

The general impression of the beaches is very good, the sea is clean, there were almost no sea urchins, and there were no jellyfish at all. The bottom is very interesting, you can see octopuses and large fish close to the shore, the sand is fine and very pleasant. The sea is calm, entry into the water is comfortable.

There are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent almost everywhere, often not very new. There are often no showers on the beaches, lifeguards, in my opinion, are not enough.

Of the tangible disadvantages are obsessive African traders, who are quite difficult to drive away.

Despite the fact that Sardinia is not one of the cheap resorts, the prices did not seem wildly high to me. Liked the little shops in Porto Cervo, a good choice women's clothing made of cotton is not banal styles. Lots of quality handbags from brands that haven't made your eyes wet yet. Interesting selection of shoes. You can buy great products.

Where can you eat?

I liked Trattoria da Patrizia in Porto Cervo - there are many locals here, the interior is simple, but really delicious.

In the same city, I liked the Accueil restaurant - it was delicious, good dishes and interior.

About the quality of food and service

Most of the restaurants were very tasty, only one was shockingly bad. It was the only one where in the evening almost all the seats were free - apparently, notoriety quickly spreads. The staff is friendly, they do not cheat, they serve quickly.

How much does it cost to eat? About food prices.

At the Accueil restaurant, dinner for two with wine cost about 140 euros, you can eat for 50-60 euros for two. You can take pizza almost everywhere with you.

Entertainment

Entertainment intended for children was not particularly impressive. We were in the dinosaur park - it seemed rather boring, I liked the dinosaur museum in Switzerland in the canton of Zurich much more.

Helpful information?

Driving through panoramic places along the coast, you can enjoy magnificent landscapes with an emerald-colored sea and bizarre granite rocks. The number of yachts is also striking here. various models and sizes. And in the greenery of the Mediterranean vegetation, here and there, the villas of the richest people are buried, such as Silvio Berlusconi, Roman Abramovich, Alisher Usmanov and many others.

The heart of the Costa Smeralda is the town of Porto Cervo.

The incongruous is combined here in an absolutely amazing way: seemingly simple Mediterranean-style huts have sheltered boutiques of famous expensive brands such as Gucci, Valentino, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and many others. In the marina of Porto Cervo there is a luxurious yacht club, where the oligarchs moor their "ship masterpieces" today. Well, in September...

  8. Oysters, and quickly cause physical addiction.
  9. Genetically modified products, as well as products produced at a distance of more than 5 kilometers from home, are not recognized as suitable for food.
  10. Sardis live up to a hundred years and are very fond of receiving guests.

  12. Here you can choose. For example, drink cocktails with millionaires on the Costa Smeralda or wine with shepherds in Barbagia, bask on the beach or enjoy the expanse in the mountains. Here you just feel free.

Sardinia is an extraordinary island that is impossible not to fall in love with. It became a popular tourist attraction only in the 60s of the twentieth century. The island seemed to accumulate in itself the energy of the sun, earth and sea, historical events, achievements of various civilizations, so that those who set foot on this earth now would be conquered and fascinated by these magical lands.

The name "Sardinia" has two recognized origins.
The first says that the modern sound is the reduced Greek word sandaliotis. It was the sandal that reminded the ancient Greeks of the shape of this island. According to legend, it was here that the Creator entered the earth, leaving his first trace.

The second goes back to the name of the ancient tribes of the Nuragic period: "Shardana" and "Shekelesh". The Nuragians dominated the region and even attacked Egypt, being leaders among the famous "peoples of the sea".

Some statistics. Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean. The area is 24.090 sq. km, the length from north to south is 270 km, from east to west - 145 km. Population - 1.630.000 inhabitants, the capital of the autonomous region of Sardinia - Cagliari. There are 3 international airports - Cagliari, Olbia, Alghero - and 8 sea ferry ports.

The island has 1850 km of beaches, about 5300 hotels, more than 20 restaurants haute cuisine(2 of them are included in the Michelin guide), more than 600 homesteads and farms in agritourism. Sardinia ranks first in Italy for the number of Blue Flag beaches of the Foundation for Environmental Education and first in Europe for the number of centenarians.

Holidays on the island of Sardinia for every taste

Sardinia gives travelers every possible facet of relaxation. After all, the island is really, as the Sardis like to say, "almost a whole continent." A mixture of white limestone cliffs, pink granite and black basalt, endless expanses of mountains and fertile plains give rise to majestic landscapes. The constellation of small islands adjacent to the big brother - Tavolara, Asinara, Sant Antioco and San Pietro, the Maddalena archipelago - adorn the beautiful face of Sardinia with a necklace. In the center of the island, a few tens of kilometers from the highest peak of the Genargentu massif - Mount La Marmora (1834 m) deep canyons Europe, Su Goroppu gorge. In the west of the island, in the area of the Costa Verde, we meet the highest dunes in Europe. To the east is Orosei Bay, famous for its grottoes and bays, called the "European Caribbean". Their underground treasures hide about 500 caves in Sardinia, the most famous of which are Is Zuddas in the southwest, Su Marmuri in the east and Neptune's Grotto in the northwest.

Surrounded by the stunning beauty of the sea, the island has preserved numerous layers of history and centuries-old folk traditions almost untouched by time. You can travel back 3.5 thousand years, feel the energy of real places of power by visiting the famous nuraghe, sacred wells, mysterious domus de janas and tombs of giants. Administratively, it is part of the Italian Republic, but at the same time it has an autonomous status with its own parliament, flag and president, differing from the mainland of the country and ethnic groups of the population, and the language used by local residents when communicating with each other. Legislative acts, approved by the Parliament of Sardinia, come into force only after their approval by the Italian Parliament.

The island has a fairly rugged relief: mountainous terrain prevails in the eastern part, which turns into a volcanic massif located in its center. Here is the highest point of the island - Mount La Marmora, 1800 meters above sea level. Between mountain ranges, overgrown with tropical vegetation, there are picturesque valleys pierced by small mountain streams.

A huge number of vacationers are attracted by the unusually beautiful views of these places: a combination of lush tropical greenery and sharp rock masses give the island a special flavor. The mass of small islands hidden from prying eyes of bays and grottoes create a feeling of complete immersion in the world of nature untouched by mankind, cut off from civilization.

The main sectors of the economy are mining and agriculture. About half of all the island's land is occupied by pastures - local residents breed goats and sheep. Agriculture is represented by wheat and barley fields, vineyards, olive and tobacco plantations. Lobsters, tuna and sardines are also caught in coastal waters. Among the minerals there are a lot of zinc, copper, iron, linite. In addition, textile and leather production is developed on the island. There are no industrial enterprises at all, which creates environmentally friendly air throughout the region. From year to year, the beaches of Sardinia win in almost all European categories, being considered the cleanest and most comfortable. However, in addition to this, tourists here are attracted by the interest in the unique original peoples inhabiting the ancient island, as well as the monuments of ancient culture left by their distant ancestors.

Historical reference

According to archaeologists, the first settlements on this territory were formed in the distant times of the Neolithic era - about 150 thousand years BC. It is to this period that the ancient structures that played the role of burial grounds belong - “enchanted houses” or “domus de khanas”, as the locals call them. The stone construction symbolizes the doors that lead to the "enchanted world". The local population of that time is credited with the role of the first winegrowers and shipbuilders of the region.

By the 15th-7th centuries BC, the Nuraghi civilization had formed on the island, leaving behind numerous buildings in the form of truncated stone cones that have survived to this day. The purpose of these tower structures by modern scientists has not yet been deciphered.

The next period in the history of the island is the Phoenician. Around the 7th century BC, the Phoenicians founded the first port settlements in Sardinia, which served as the basis for further development islands. Then the island was captured by the Carthaginians, who reigned supreme here until the 3rd century AD, until they were forced out by the Great Roman Empire, with the fall of which the Vandals came to power. However, already in the VI century they were expelled from Sardinia by the Byzantine emperor Belisarius. Then the island fell into the hands of the Arabs, Spaniards, Austrians, and in 1861, the Kingdom of Sardinia joined the united state of Italy.

Such an abundance of cultures and peoples who at different times owned Sardinia left here many magnificent monuments of history and architecture.
