An example of classicism, a worthy completion of Unter den Linden. The "Gate of the World" was built in 1791 according to the project of Karl Gotthard Langgans. 1. Apartments: in Berlin it is very cheap to stay usually in apartments. Previously, they worked without a minimum with the help of which I booked accommodation from 13 € on, but now there are a large number of budget options on this site.
  2. Hotels: prices for such housing are higher than for apartments and start from 40 €. Do not overpay when looking for a hotel will help. This site compares offers from many booking systems and shows where the same room can be rented cheaper.

Sights of Berlin

Before starting the story interesting places and attractions, I will give a couple of links where you can buy tickets and excursions, which can help you better prepare and get to know Berlin.

  1. — 16€. Replace public transport.
  2. skip the line – 17.5€
  3. Subscription for 3 days to 30 museums in Berlin - 29 €.
  4. for 48 hours (city transport and entrance to museums) - 19.9 €.
  5. in Russian - 20 €.

What to see in Berlin in 1 day

Having bought a public transport pass, I moved around Berlin a little chaotically, now I would make the route more organized and possibly save more on travel. Below I will try to tell in the order in which I would do it now.

The rented room was next to the park Volkspark Humboldthain , where the dilapidated Anti-aircraft towers of the Luftwaffe (Flakturm Humboldthain) , which are also a viewing platform.

But here we were waiting for the only disappointment in Berlin. This place is forgotten by tourists and neglected. Garbage, broken containers and a terrible smell of urine. The hand did not rise to take photographs of such a situation, and the only photo is a beautiful staircase in the park, along which local residents ran every now and then.

Volkspark Humboldthain - Volkspark Humboldthain

After visiting the park we go to Alexanderplatz this is the very center of the city and many tourist routes in guidebooks start from here. At the same time, we will run in the travel card with a transfer from UBahn on S-Bahn, because The pass is valid for both modes of transport.

Alexanderplatz

Having reached Alexanderplatz you can take out the camera and not turn it off for a long time. As soon as you get out of the metro, sights will open in front of you, many of which have become symbols of Berlin.

Alexanderplatz

Church of St. Mary

You can get stuck in this square if you have time until the end of the day, you can spend the first part of the day in line at the TV tower or buy for 17.5€ in advance and skip the line.

After the TV tower on Alexanderplatz, there are several shopping centers. Inside you can expect a big surprise in the form of crowded shops, apparently this is very popular place and few pass by.

museum island

If shopping or visiting the TV Tower did not delay you, then you can move further towards the Spree River until we cross the bridge and find ourselves on the Museum Island.

Here, as well as on Alexanderplatz, sights will be at every turn. The first will be, and immediately after him Lustgarten park and 5 more museums built one by one.

Egyptian Museum and Lustgarten Park

It may be tempting to stay and visit all the museums or at least some of them, but if you have time, you can set aside a separate day for this.

We leave the island and walk along the street with a nice-sounding name Unter den Linden to another symbol of Berlin brandenburg gate, in front of which there is a pedestrian Paris Square.

After taking a picture at the gate, you should not pass through them and go further down the street, because. miss one of the most interesting buildings in history, the Reichstag. It is located to the right of the gate. Before the gate turn right and walk a little less than 500 meters.

How to get to the Reichstag

You can get into the Reichstag free of charge from 8 am to 24 pm. On days when the dome is not closed, an audio guide is issued free of charge, including in Russian. The 20 minute track tells the highlights of the history of the Reichstag as you and your companions climb up to the dome.

To get into the Reichstag, you must register in advance for the Bundestag. Registration is free, after which a confirmation is sent to the mail, it must be printed out and shown at the entrance along with a passport. After checking the registration and passport, you need to go through security control like at the airport, so do not take anything sharp / cutting with you. After passing through the screening, you are formed into groups and an escort is assigned to each group.

This is not all the nuances, before registering, carefully read the opening hours of the dome, as it is closed 4 times a year for cleaning. These days you can still get into the Reichstag, but in this case you will not be given an audio guide and will not be taken through the Reichstag, but sent to the roof in an elevator. These days the Reichstag is just observation platform.

Unfortunately, my visit fell on the days when the dome was closed, so I will show only a few photos from the roof of the building.

Having visited the Reichstag, you can go back to the Brandenburg Gate and visit for some a not very pleasant place that can bring a little horror - this is. Outwardly, it looks harmless, but if you walk between the rows and go deeper, then the sensations may not be very pleasant, when the columns are either higher or lower than you, when you get lost in them, you just have to close your eyes and just turn around.

Gendarmenmarkt square

A 15 minute walk from the memorial will be beautiful square Gendarmenmarkt. If you face the concert hall, then the French Cathedral will be on the right, and the German Cathedral on the left. They are almost twins.

german cathedral

Concert hall

french cathedral

Brandenburger Tor

On this, the first day can be completed, and to make it more beautiful, you can again return to the gate to Paris Square and go down to the metro station Brandenburger Tor . After all, anyway, you will most likely have to go to the hotel or somewhere else by metro. It is worth going down to this station for the sake of interactive decorations about the history of Berlin, which decorate the walls.

What to see in Berlin in 2 days

The second day can be taken to see more distant sights from the historical center, if on the first day a travel card is not necessarily needed, then this time you will have to travel around different sides of Berlin.

You can start the second day with Potsdamer Platz , for this you need to get to the station of the same name S-Bahn Potsdamerplatz . Here, in addition to tall office buildings, you can find a piece of the Berlin Wall.

If climbing the TV tower turned out to be expensive for you, then this square is a great alternative. In the Kollhoff-Tower building (Address - Potsdamer Platz 1) there is an observation deck Panoramapunkt.

  • costs 7.5€.

After Potsdamer Platz we go to, for this we again go down underground and take S2 and transfer to S7 at the station Friedrichstrasse station . Get off at the station Bellevue . And walk 700 meters. Bellevue Palace is the historical residence of the kings and princes of Germany.

After the palace, you can drive one stop to Columns of Victory by bus 100 or 187 or walk 400m. At the very top, under the statue, there is an observation platform, which you have to climb on foot. spiral staircase.

Berlin Zoo and Kaiser Wilhelm Church

We take bus 100 and drive about 10 minutes to Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church or up to Berlin Zoo . This is the stop Zoologischer Garten . They are located in almost the same place.

The second part of the day can be devoted Berlin Wall , for this it is best to get direct from the station Zoologischer Garten to the station Warschauerstr. to S5, S7 or S75 in 20 minutes.

The Berlin Wall is not one place, but a whole complex of pieces scattered around the city. The main parts are East Side Gallery (Eastside Gallery) and Gedenkstaette Berliner Mauer (Memorial). Since it is very great material, then I wrote about him separately for 2.

TOTAL trip for 2 days in Berlin with accommodation and all transfers will cost from 45 € per person when traveling as a couple.

This is my whole story about what to see in Berlin in 1 and 2 days. I look forward to your feedback and ratings Ms.Natalina.

The capital of Germany is the most populous city in the country. At the same time, Berlin is different and incredible story. The official date of foundation of the city is 1237. It was the capital of the German Empire, and even the destruction of World War II did not deprive it of its charm - it is a cultural, political and economic center. If you go to this city, be sure to check out the following attractions.

Brandenburg Gate

The most famous architectural landmark of the city is the first thing to see in Berlin. The Brandenburg Gate was built in the eighteenth century as a symbol of peace and Prussian values. The purpose of the gate was not so much security as beauty and the implementation of customs activities - they were not included in the system of city fortifications. The Brandenburg Gate remains an important element of history; it is a symbol of Berlin divided between the GDR and the FRG. The surrounding area is closed to traffic, so it is very easy to look at the gate.

Reichstag

This is a symbol of the German government, its construction began in 1884. Since then, this building has played a huge role in the life of the city. During the First World War, it was here that the creation of the Weimar Republic was announced. Two decades later, the Reichstag was destroyed by fire. It was the central point during the battle for Berlin. Now the Bundestag, the German parliament, operates here.

Victory Column

One of the most expressive elements in the landscape of Berlin is the bronze statue of Victory. The column was created in 1873 after the war between Prussia and Denmark. Initially, the column was in front of the Reichstag, but then it was moved to another square. The statue is open to the public from nine thirty in the morning to six thirty in the evening. This beautiful place with an exquisite marble pedestal, so you should definitely admire the column.

Alexanderplatz

It is one of the largest city squares and an important transport hub. Initially, there was a market where livestock was traded. In the twenties of the last century, the square became the center of nightlife. Now there is a television tower - the tallest building in Germany and the fourth tallest in Europe. It is interesting to visit the square only because of the presence of this building here.

Olympic Stadium

This landmark is associated with the darkest period in German history. This is the largest Olympic stadium in the world, built for the 1936 Games. Adolf Hitler wanted to use this event for propaganda purposes. The stadium was the center of the monumental sports complex, created specifically to demonstrate the prosperity of the Nazi regime. In addition, it was from Berlin that the first television broadcast of the competition was held. The fall of Nazi rule did not lead to the destruction of the stadium. He even almost did not suffer during the hostilities.

Charlottenburg Palace

This is the largest palace not only in the city, but also in the country. This is the only surviving residence of the Hohenzollern dynasty. In addition to the huge historical significance, this is just a beautiful example of baroque and rococo styles. During the Second World War, the building was damaged, but then it was restored. The gardens around the palace are open to the public free of charge, so you can admire Charlottenburg without any difficulty.

Spandau Citadel

Military service has always been an important part of German culture. Germany was and remains the leading military power. Spandau Citadel reflects the country's military past, being one of the best preserved fortresses from the Renaissance. Now here is a museum military history dedicated to the past of this place.

Memorial complex "Berlin Wall"

If you are interested in history, you should definitely visit this attraction. This memorial is dedicated to the preservation of a fragment of the wall that divided the country into the FRG and the GDR. The construction of the wall was started in 1961 - the wall was supposed to stop emigration to the west. After the construction was completed, parts of the country were finally separated. Now the memorial is a large segment of the wall, preserved in almost perfect form.

Checkpoint Charlie

Of course, the isolation of parts of the country was not complete - there were checkpoints. The most famous is Checkpoint Charlie on Friedrichstrasse. It became a symbol of the division of Germany and operated for almost forty years. It was here in 1961 that the Berlin Crisis took place, when American and Soviet tanks almost opened fire in each other's direction. Now it is a museum open sky, which allows you to get acquainted with the history of Germany and in more detail - Berlin. The use of such a place as a tourist attraction may be considered blasphemous by some, but its importance to the city cannot be underestimated.

Stasi Museum

One of the most important elements of the communist regime in East Germany was the operation of the Stasi, the state security service. The service was formed in 1950. It was the political police, providing security for the regime. Among other security agencies, the Stasi stands out for the highest level of control over all citizens of East Germany. When the country was unified in 1990, the Stasi was the first to be abolished. Despite attempts to destroy the secret documents of the organization, some of the archives were preserved, on the basis of which the processes of punishing Stasi employees for their crimes were carried out. Now the building has been turned into a museum, allowing you to get acquainted with the life of East Germany. It's a place that makes you realize just how intimidating state control can be.

museum island

If you want to take a broader look at history, head to the museum island, where there are five amazing museums at once, the collections of which include antique exhibits, artifacts from Greece, Rome, Egypt, unique things - for example, the bust of Nefertiti. Here you can also admire the extensive collections of paintings.

Berlin Cathedral

This is one of the most interesting buildings in the city. The beautiful building was opened in 1905 by the Prussian Emperor Wilhelm II. Germany was a Protestant country, so Wilhelm also led the church. Appearance The cathedral is thought out to the smallest detail - it was conceived as a rival to the Catholic Cathedral of St. Peter in Rome. This building was badly damaged during World War II.

Kulturforum

The cultural center of the country is located near the Reichstag. Kulturforum is a place where many galleries, libraries and other similar buildings are located, in addition, concerts and festivals are constantly held here.

Potsdamer Platz

This is the place with which many are associated historical events. In addition, it is a large public square, which was once the center of trade and culture. After the unification of the country in 1990, this place came to life again. Now trade is flourishing here again. Be sure to visit this Finance center capital Cities.

Berlin Zoo

This is the most popular zoo in Europe. It was opened in 1844 and covers thirty-four hectares of land. After the Second World Zoo was rebuilt from scratch. For animals, the most natural conditions are created here. In addition, the zoo cooperates with educational institutions and research institutes working to protect endangered animals. Take a whole day to visit - there is something to see here!

TheQuestion partner response

Berlin is the most beautiful capital of Europe, and at the same time one of the most expensive places in the region. However, even with a limited budget, you can find entertainment to your taste and have a great time here.

To begin with, I advise you to save on airfare and accommodation by traveling during the low tourist season. It starts in Berlin towards the end of winter. For example, round-trip tickets for February with a flight from Moscow will cost you everything. The cost of a night in a hostel starts at . I advise you to stay closer to the center so as not to spend a lot of money on transport.

It is best to start your acquaintance with the city from the Reichstag building. Not so long ago, a glass dome was erected over it, from where a stunning view of the entire city now opens. Moreover, the Reichstag, where parliamentary sessions are held, can be visited completely free of charge. You will even have the opportunity to watch the meeting if you register in advance.

You can also visit the famous open-air gallery - East Side Gallery. It is here that the graffiti with the kiss of Brezhnev and Honecker is located. You don't have to pay to look at street art and take photos. Here you can also see part of the famous Berlin Wall, which until recently divided the city into two parts.

Be sure to take a look at the monument to the victims of the Holocaust. This place in the heart of the city is one of the most visited places in Berlin. The memorial is a huge field on which gloomy obelisks of different heights stand in rows.

Entrance to many museums of the capital is free on certain days and hours. For example, you can visit the Hamburg railway station for free on Thursday from 14:00 to 18:00. Also on Thursdays you can get without a ticket to the Egyptian Museum. You can freely enter the Red Town Hall - the place where the Senate meets - all day long.

In Berlin, even fans of nightlife can find a budget place. For example, in one of the most popular clubs in the city of Sage, every day free entry until 22:00, and until 21:00 there are "happy hours".

I will share a few ideas for a free and at the same time interesting pastime in Berlin :)

Especially if you are not so familiar with the city, you can take part in. Participation is free, but everything is structured in such a way that at the end of the walk, each excursionist pays the amount that he considers appropriate as a thank you to the guide. In Spain, for example, I left 5 euros on a free walking tour. Here's more on the guys organizing freebies walking tours in Berlin. They promise that you will see the city through the eyes of locals.

You can go to the open (they take place on Thursdays) - the fee here is also voluntary - depending on your financial capabilities, or visit the swing direction on Monday.

In addition, many museums in Berlin can be visited for free. For example, on Thursdays from 18:00 to 22:00 admission to the following museums is free: the Bode Museum, the Pergamon Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Altes Museum and the Neues Museum.

You can enter the dome built in the Reichstag building for free and admire the panorama of Berlin. You can also watch the government meeting there. Pre-registration required for .

Even on Thursdays from 18.00 to 21.00 visit the Egyptian Museum, which presents the most extensive collection of exhibits of ancient culture. And the Red Town Hall, where the Berlin Senate and the burgomaster sit, is available for free visits every day.

And, of course, visit the Berlin Wall - a truly world-class object.

In Berlin, you can even eat for free: every Sunday from 16.00 in the cafe Vetomat (metro station “Samariterstraße”, Scharnweberstraße, 35) free lunches are served. Food left in hotels is brought here from " smorgasbords". Another favorite among the locals is Alte Kantine, which is located in cultural center Kulturbrauerei (metro station "Eberswalderstraße", Knaackstraße, 97) every Monday at 22:00 for 3€ visitors can order a three-course dinner.

And finally, about the most budgetary way to get around Berlin. It is cheaper to use bicycles, which are rented for a very modest amount. Bicycle stands are located at metro stations and train stations.
