What to visit in Bali on your own. Nusa Penida island. Tour or self-guided tour

Hello dear readers! Today we will tell you about the sights of Bali, which we recommend to see.

The most important magic, the locals are Balinese. From birth, they keep in touch with their ancestors, with their kind, with nature. With mother's milk, they absorbed the ability to interact with the invisible world, observe all the ceremonies and rituals that they were taught from infancy.

We will tell you about our favorite attractions in Bali. Of course, it is difficult to combine all the attractions of the island in ten points, but we will try.

For each attraction, I will add a couple of points that can be interesting to see nearby. The whole island of Bali cannot be covered in one article. Let this be your "homework" to tell us about those interesting places ah islands, which, in your opinion, should also be included in our TOP-10. 🙂

Sights of Bali. 10 best places on the island that you need to see.

1. Holy Spring Tirta Empul

First of all, having arrived in Bali, I definitely recommend dipping into the waters of the holy spring Tirta Empul, which is over 1000 years old. Entering the source, feeling the coolness and freshness of the water, you take off the extra burden of unnecessary thoughts and emotions. Watch around. You will see residents praying and bathing. You will notice spiritually beautiful Balinese women lighting incense in honor of the spring waters. And gradually, you will begin to feel like you are in Bali.

Tirta Empul Temple (Pura Tirta Empul) translates as "temple of the sacred water." This is one of the revered Balinese temples, which has on its territory a sacred source of life-giving waters and three pools for cleansing ablutions.

Come to the source early in the morning before tourists from the south reach it. And on weekends and holidays (new moon, full moon, kajeng-kliwon and other significant Balinese dates), many locals come to the source.

  • How to get there: Tirta Empul is located near the town of Tampaksiring, about 39 km east of the city of Denpasar. From Ubud you need to go north towards the Kintamani area and the big caldera.
  • GPS coordinates: google coordinates -8.414892, 115.316031
  • What is the price: 15 thousand rupees
  • What to see nearby? Near the springs are the ancient rock caves of Gunung Kawi and the temple of the same name, which we also included in the list of attractions, see about them below. The spring of Tirta Empul is located in the middle between Ubud and Mount Batur. Nearby are the small rice terraces of Tegallalang, Sebaty spring and several coffee plantations.
  • You can stay nearby in Ubud.

2. The green heart of Bali - Jatiluwih Rice Terrace

This is our favorite attraction on the island. When I get into the water area of these rice terraces, I simply dissolve in beauty. They are so amazing and picturesque that each of our trips to the Zhati Luvi terraces is a holiday for me.

Rice fields Jatiluwih are located almost in the center of Bali. Therefore, Sasha and I call them " green heart islands." These fields grow traditional Balinese Beras Bali rice, which the locals call the gift of the gods. This rice is grown organically, as it has been grown on the island for centuries.

On these terraces, you can observe how coming to these rice terraces at different stages of rice ripening, each time you can observe completely different landscapes. Rice terraces can be seen flooded with water when the rice is harvested and the earth is resting. Or bright green spaces of young rice, or already golden yellow ears of mature rice. Each of these pictures is amazing.

Here you can watch mysterious mountain Batukaru, who seems to be able to talk, she is so picturesque and mysterious. Misty clouds always curl around her, hiding the mountain in their fluffy blanket. The height of the mountain is 2276 m. This is the second highest mountain in Bali (after Agung) and the third sacred (after Agung and Batur).

And at the foot of Mount Batukaru is the temple of Batukaro, where the spirit of the mountain lives. This temple is not as famous as the rest of its Balinese counterparts, but it is interesting in its own way. This is one of the six sacral and one of the nine security temples of Bali, which protect the island from the "dark forces".

  • GPS coordinates: -8.370418, 115.138324
  • What is the price? 40 thousand rupees
  • What to see nearby? Pura Luhur Batukaru temple, air parnas hot springs and Yeh Hoo waterfall. You can climb Mount Batukara.
  • Where to stay? There are several hotels and guest houses in Jatiluvih, see here.

3. Big caldera: volcano, temple and lake Batur

What is hidden in the big caldera of Batur volcano? Oh, a lot. Inside the caldera is the grim, gray volcano Batur and the green, wooded Mount Abang. In the center of the caldera is the holy freshwater lake Batur, and around it are villages and farms.

It would be nice to climb the Batur volcano to meet the sunrise at the top. This climb is not very difficult, but you can get a lot of pleasure. You need to start climbing at 2-3 in the morning, so that by 6 in the morning you can already climb to the top.

Climbing Batur

Batur volcano is one of the most active volcanoes Bali. Over the past 200 years, more than 20 eruptions, and the last fell on 1974. The strongest eruption of the Batur volcano was in 1917, it claimed thousands of lives, destroyed houses and temples.

After a volcanic eruption, magma flows behind fast watch reached the waters of the lake, and until now the entire western and northwestern slope of Mount Batur is flooded with volcanic rock.

I'll tell you what else is interesting inside the caldera. There is a coniferous forest (by the way, the beginning of the climbing path is in it), and in the forest you can even find cones. There are four hot springs in which it is cozy to splash around after climbing to the top of Batur (and it’s just nice to bask in warm water). We love Arlinas Bungalow sources (google it).

There are numerous vegetable plantations located around the lake.

Lake Batur is considered a saint in Bali, it is home to the lake goddess Devi Danu, who manages the water balance on the island and regulates the supply of water to all rice and vegetable plantations.

The goddess lives in all four freshwater lakes of Bali. About three other lakes, we will tell below, they are also among our ten favorite places on the island.

On the eastern side of the caldera is the village of Trunyan, home to the ancient Balinese who call themselves "Bali-Aga" and consider themselves to be the true inhabitants of the island.

Trunyan village can be reached by scooter or car, the road is quite narrow in places. In the village itself you can see beautiful temple, residential buildings and an interesting cemetery, to which you need to sail by boat. The magical banyan tree Menyan grows in the cemetery, in the roots of which the bodies of the dead bali-aga are placed, and the tree disposes of the bodies in an ecological way.

The locals, Trunyats or Bali Agians, are friendly guys who do not boast of their chosenness at all, pour Balinese coffee and invite you to look at the cemetery.

Top view of Batur lake and Trunyan village

After the rains, the lake overflows its banks, and the village of Trunyan is flooded.

And on the edge of the caldera is the wonderful temple of Batur (Pura Ulan Danu Batur). This temple used to be near the lake, but after the volcanic eruption in 1926, it was moved upstairs. The temple is quite large and beautiful, especially on holidays.

  • How to get there: From Ubud we follow any road to the north, a 13-kilometer diameter large caldera with a volcano and a lake inside can be seen from space, GPS coordinates are not needed here. 🙂
  • What is the price: 30 thousand Indonesian rupees per person, if you drive from Ubud from the Statue of Arjuna, then next to the caldera you will run into a post where they will demand such an amount.
  • To drive for free, use the road that starts from the Bintang Supermarket (Ubud), it leads to Batur Temple and bypasses the post mentioned above.
  • .What to see nearby? On the way to the caldera, if you drive from Ubud, you can capture the Tegallalang rice terraces, the holy spring of Tirta Empul, the Gunung Kawi rock caves and coffee plantations.
  • Where to stay nearby? In the village of Kintamani or inside a large caldera, there is already a rather large selection of hotels - Batur Lakeside Hut, Lakeview Hotel, Arlina's Bungalow or see.

4. Pura Sad Kahyangan Lempuyang Luhur

Mmmm! This is the magic of the island. Mount Lempuyang and its quest - climbing to the top, visiting different temples along the way. I love this place… 🙂

"Stairway to Heaven", "Road to the Clouds" - this is how they call this incredibly fabulous ascent to the top of Mount Lempuyang, where the main temple is located.

Imagine, even the name of the Luhur Lempuyang temple, according to one version, can be translated as "heavenly dizziness." "Luhur" means "heavenly" and "Lempuyang" means vertigo. This is true. Lempuyang Temple is also one of the six sacred temples in Bali.

And what are the Balinese gates of Chandi Bentar. Where in Bali there are even more magical Chandi Bentar? These are overlooking the sacred Agung! Drive to Lempuyang early in the morning before the clouds start to overwhelm the peaks. Oh, I'm afraid you'll like it there. 🙂

An excerpt from our article on Mount Lempuyang: “ Our trip was wonderful. It was as if we were traveling in a world of good spirits. Among the spirits of mountains, trees, wind and rain. The spirit of fog enveloped us with its smoky veil, the rain dripped softly and carefully, protecting our little princess from excess moisture. The spirit of the earth led us gently along the paths and pointed out the right direction, supported us on slippery steps, told stories about ancient events that took place here.

From the article:

5. Beautiful Ubud and its rice paths + art galleries

Ubud is wonderful. This cultural capital Bali islands , "city of masters". Craftsmen, artists, architects, sculptors - you will find everyone here. As well as dancers, musicians, yogis and others like them - everything is here. And we are also in love with Ubud, along with the above comrades. 🙂

Ubud is a must-see, but it’s impossible to understand it right off the bat. Well, think for yourself, what will you feel when you arrive in the center of a hot, unfamiliar town? You will walk along it back and forth, along with a crowd of Chinese, and the maximum that you visit is the forest of monkeys. By the way, do not pester monkeys, they bite annoying tourists. 🙂

No, to understand and love Ubud, you have to live in it. At least a couple of days. Take a walk, dreamily drink wheat juice in healthy food restaurants, admire the sunset. Take a leisurely walk through art galleries, take lessons in Balinese painting. Visit Ubud organic markets, buy soap nuts at the Bali Buddha health store. Well, and so on. 🙂

Life in Ubud is addictive! If you only have two weeks in Bali, don't stay in Ubud for long! And then you risk! You may never fly to your Moscow, and in general you won’t see Bali again. So you will admire the sunset in the rice terraces. In Ubud. 🙂

  • How to get there: Looking for Ubud on google map.
  • What to see? Monkey forest, visit the art galleries of Neka, Armagh, Puri Lukisan (for an amateur), the Antonio Blanco Museum and others. Walk along the rice terraces around Ubud.

Magic Ubud Doors

6. Besakih Temple and Mount Agung (Pura Besakih & gunung Agung)

Agung! How much in this word for the Balinese heart intertwined, how much resonated in it. The most sacred, the most majestic, the most magnificent of the magnificent, divine and powerful. The abode of all gods, deities and ancestral spirits is the most revered mountain in the life of the Balinese. They pray to her, they worship her, they go to sleep with their heads to her.

Agung is, indeed, the most sacred mountain in Bali, it can be seen from different parts of the island, celestials live on it. And if people do something wrong, then the mountain erupts with its anger. The Balinese are the keepers of the balance of the energies of the island and the world. It is not easy for them sometimes, because the world is not perfect, but the Balinese continuously pray and maintain a divine balance.

In the Balinese Lantar manuscript, Mount Agung is often referred to as "Langkir", which means "home of the mighty spirit". Mount Agung is a symbol of Mount Meru, the axis of the world and the location of the one god, and Pura Besakih is a temple for prayers, located in close proximity to the gods.

Besakih Temple (Pura Besakih) is called the mother of all temples on the island. It is the largest temple complex and center of Hindu worship in Bali. Besakih Temple, the first, is included in the list of six sacred (Sad Kahyangan) and nine protective temples (Kahyangan Padma Bhuwana) of Bali.

  • How to get there: From Ubud, you need to drive to the east of the island, in the direction of Gianyar-KlungKung, then you need to turn north, after some time the road will turn into a mountain serpentine. Look for a right turn onto Pura Besakih.

7. Botanical Garden in Bali "Kebun Raya Eka Karya"

Botanical Garden is in , among clouds, fog and strawberry plantations, near Lake Bratan. The park was founded on July 15, 1959. The garden contains about two thousand various plants, including 650 species of trees, 400 species of orchids, a collection of 104 cacti, roses, and bamboo.

The botanical garden settled on the slope of Mount Pohon (gunuug pohon), located at an altitude of 1250-1450 meters above sea level and covers an area of 57.5 hectares.

The park is far from the undulating ocean, palm trees and sandy shores. It's always a little chilly here, you can warm up and take an umbrella with you.

We recommend coming here with children. Here you can perfectly communicate with nature, let the children run freely on the grass, and parents can relax, walk barefoot on the ground, be filled with inspiration and good mood.

Even in the park entertainment attraction at the height of the trees there is a Bali Treetop adventure! At a height of 2 to 20 meters, ladders, ropes are stretched between the trees, interesting obstacles that need to be overcome. • Where to settle? There are not many accommodations in the Bedugul area, but there is something, see here. Accommodation examples: Green Villa Bali , Hotel Sorgawi Bedugul , Rekreasi Bedugul
  • We also want to recommend you our favorite warung right on the shore of Lake Bratan - Warung Rekreasi, there are incredibly delicious strawberry cocktails, a strawberry plantation where you can pick these berries, and there is even a campsite! For 150 thousand rupees you will be given a tent, foam and a pillow, right on the lake. 🙂

8. Lakes Bali: Bro, Buyan and Tamblingan

All three lakes are located in the highland region of Bedugul, which, in my opinion, is very reminiscent of the Swiss Alps. What can I say, it’s fabulous, beautiful and romantic here (take a look at Buyan and Tamblingan lakes from observation deck), and sometimes foggy and mysterious (mist descends on the lakes in the afternoon), mentally and spiritually (there are many temples, mountains and meditative silence around Tamblingan Lake). And for lovers of coolness, fresh vegetables and strawberries, this place will seem the best on the island.

For 150 thousand rupees you will be given a tent, foam and a pillow, right on the lake. 🙂

9. Bali Water Palaces - Ujung and Tirta Ganga

Interesting palace complexes to be seen. Both water palaces were built by the last Raja of Karangasem, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasemg, having received his education as an architect in Holland. These are not only beautiful palaces on the water, but also useful structures that serve to irrigate the surrounding fields.

"Soekasada Udjung", which means "Water Palace Ujung". This is a very beautiful water-palace park, located against the backdrop of the ocean and mountains, it will not leave indifferent lovers of taking beautiful photos.

Ujung Palace is considered one of the most beautiful buildings created on the island of Bali. An interesting place was chosen by the Raja for the construction of the palace. Previously, there was a moat with water, which served as a place of punishment for sorcerers accused of black magic. Oh Bali Bali. 🙂

10. Ancient Hindu Temple Gunung Kawi

A unique architectural object, similar at the same time to the scenery for the Indiana Jones film series and to the abandoned city of the ancient Indians. The temple complex itself, with its many caves, was built as a tomb for the ancient kings of Bali and as a meditation complex, using the acoustic properties of the caves.

Entering the territory of the temple complex, you will find bas-reliefs carved into the rocks, 7 meters high, called "Chandi": 4 bas-reliefs on the western, and 5 bas-reliefs on the eastern bank of the river. Each of the bas-reliefs is a burial tower, on which it is written which of the royal people it is dedicated to.

11. Waterfalls Bali.

I immediately warn you that waterfalls are the very magic of Bali. There are many waterfalls on the island of Bali, large and small, more than a hundred. Alive, beautiful, magical, real.

And each of them is a shaman and sage of this island. Everyone tells their own ancient stories, sings songs with overtones, he spins tales about the past, about how our ancestors lived, who they are and where they come from…

The waterfall is a storehouse of living information, undistorted, crystal clear and clear. When you come to visit him, such a clear look of living consciousness rushes at you that you yourself concentrate and clearly see what you wanted to see or understand.

A waterfall is always a clairvoyant! His palms cleanse you of distortions and illusions, his source is strong and pure, but powerful and uncompromising, he clears the grain from the chaff, does not fall for your far-fetched illusions, clearly delimits what is not true.

Self-guided trip to Bali - what to see

We recommend starting an independent review of Bali attractions from Ubud. It is convenient to get here from nearby resorts:

  • Nusa Dua;
  • Seminyak;
  • Kuty;
  • Jimbaran.

In Ubud, mountainous Bali will appear before you - it is somewhat different from its "beach" version. The town has its own unique atmosphere, so you need to stay here for at least a couple of days. It is better to go to Ubud by taxi from Jimbaran (pay about $20). You can stay in one of the local guest houses - the pleasure will cost 10-20 thousand rupees per night.

Walking along the streets of Ubud on your own, you will soon realize that you are in the center of crafts and fine arts. There are many art galleries and workshops specializing in working with metal and wood.

You can view the Balinese temples in any clothes, but with one condition - your knees must be covered. It is better to buy a sarong (local clothing resembling a skirt) in advance, you can find them in any souvenir shop, or rent them.

Here is a list of places that you need to pay attention to in Ubud and its surroundings:

Three unusual sights of Bali

For lovers of the unusual, we have prepared a list of the most strange and memorable places on the island. The list, frankly, is not for everyone - therefore it is advisory in nature.

Must visit water palaces— Tirta Ganga and Ujung.

Island Attraction Rating

To rank the most popular attractions in Bali, we had to climb a lot of Internet resources. Among the main contenders were Monkey Forest, Elephant Cave and many Hindu temples. We have tried to choose the most interesting places that every traveler simply must visit.

On the territory of the island of Bali there are a huge number of attractions, some of them were created by man, others are the creation of mother nature. But each attraction is beautiful in its own way and deserves the attention of tourists. I suggest that you get acquainted with the most interesting places of the resort, which will allow you to create your own recreation program in the future.

Some of the most striking sights are located in the eastern part of Bali, in the Karangasem area. Taman Ujung Palace is considered the most beautiful building that ever existed on the island. The initiator of the construction was the last king of Karangasay, the building was erected over 2 years (1919-1921) and combined the Balinese and European styles.

At one time it was the residence of the royal family, and served as a place for receiving high-ranking officials. In the middle of the past century, as a result of natural disasters, the palace was badly damaged and for a long time stood in an abandoned state. It was restored only at the beginning of the 21st century, and now it pleases visitors with its unsurpassed view. You can visit the attraction from morning to 6 pm. The cost of the entrance ticket is 35 thousand Indonesian rupiah.

The Tirta Ganga Palace is a real maze of pools and fountains. On all sides it is surrounded by a picturesque garden. The area of the palace is 1.3 hectares. The design of structures began in the middle of the 20th century, but as a result of the most powerful volcanic eruption of 1963, many statues and foundations were damaged, and almost all vegetation was destroyed. Despite the fact that the attraction can be visited today, restoration work is still ongoing on its territory. The cost of the entrance ticket is 20 thousand Indonesian rupiah. If you decide to swim in the pool with holy water, you will have to pay another 10 thousand. Opening hours: 7:00-18:00. It is located near the natural springs of Rejas, north of the city of Amlapura.

Jatiluwi rice terraces

Terraces can be safely attributed to the number of the most interesting places in Bali. In 2012 they were recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fields are located on the southern side of Mount Batukau, at an altitude of about 850 m. Jatiluwi terraces cover 330 hectares, and about 400 people are involved in their cultivation. Some of the terraces are over 1,000 years old, and the local rice is known for its special flavor and is much more expensive. All fields are processed manually, and thanks to climatic features region, the crop can be harvested several times a year.

The terraces began to attract the first tourists at the beginning of the 20th century. It was during this period that the construction of the Dutch castle of Petani Temple took place, to which people came from all provinces of the island. To date, the terraces are being developed and improved, parking, restaurants, and other infrastructure facilities have been specially equipped for guests. You can visit this place during the day, for the entrance to the village you will need to pay 15 thousand rupees.

Monkey forest in Ubud

Among the main attractions of Ubud is the Monkey Forest. Its inhabitants feel like full owners of the territory. Therefore, if you decide to get acquainted with these, at first glance, cute monkeys, put all valuables away. During the walk, you can feed the monkeys, the food is sold by the park employees.

Within the forest is the temple of Pura Bukit. It is so old that its walls and columns are already covered with moss, but this does not prevent services from being held on its territory. The cost of visiting the attraction is 30 thousand rupees, it is open from 8:30 to 18:00. Address: Jl. Monkey Forest, Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar.

Temple Pura Tanah Lot

The name of the temple can be translated as "land in the sea", and all because of its unusual location. The fact is that there is a landmark on a rock, surrounded on all sides by water. It is possible to approach the temple only at low tide. It is the most recognizable and visited in the resort. This is one of the few places where you can walk around without national Balinese clothes.

Based on the legend, the construction of the complex dates back to the 15th century. And its walls protect poisonous snakes from intruders. Within the temple there is a spring with healing water, during his life every Hindu should take at least a couple of sips from it. Near the attraction there are 2 observation decks, which offer stunning views of the surroundings of the island.

You can visit the temple at any convenient time, but it is better to come here closer to sunset, as at this time it is shown in all its glory, plus the heat on the street begins to subside. The cost of the entrance ticket is 30 thousand rupees. It is located 22 kilometers from Kuta.

uluwatu temple

The temple is one of the largest in Bali. It is located in the southwestern part of the island, south of Denparas. Uluwatu was founded in the 11th century by Saint Mpu Kuturana. It is located on the very edge of a cliff at an altitude of about 90 meters. The large temple complex includes 3 temples. There are gates at the entrance to each.

Until the beginning of the past century, the complex could only be visited by members of the royal family. Today, even guests of the country can see it. However, you should not come here during religious events, as the doors of the temple will be closed. From all sides the complex is surrounded by a forest inhabited by monkeys. As a sign of respect for the holy place, cotton belts are handed out in front of the entrance. After sunset, a performance begins on the territory of the temple - the Kechak dance (lasts 1.5 hours). The entrance ticket costs 30 thousand rupees, with a dance - 70 thousand.

Bratan Lake and Pura Ulun Danu Temple

These attractions are located in the central part of the resort, at an altitude of about 1.2 kilometers above sea level, surrounded on all sides by a mountain range. Pura Ulun Danu was built on the shores of Lake Bratan. It was built in the second half of the 17th century by order of King Mengwi. Ubud area- one of the richest in sights. Nestled among rice paddies and steep ravines in the central foothills of the island, Ubud is Bali's cultural hub. And here is what you can see.

Monkey Forest

According to the brochure given to you at the entrance, there are 563 long-tailed macaques living here (although it seems much more). The forest itself is divided into five main parts.
If you bring bananas with you into the forest, don't be surprised if the monkey gets terribly impatient and will jump on you and get the treat on its own. Do not try to take food away from them (if, for example, you did not expect to feed monkeys at all): a monkey can easily bite you. For the same reason, it is better not to let children feed these cute creatures. Monkeys also love shiny objects - water bottles, glasses, earrings and metal objects. They can easily steal them from you, so you need to be on the lookout!
Many guards are armed with slingshots in order to rescue the "trapped" tourists. But it's easier to just keep your distance. In addition to monkeys, you will find three temples in the park, one of which is for cremation, and there is also a cemetery nearby. And, if you do not turn off the main path, you can “run into” traditional kechak dances.
The Monkey Forest is in full shade most days, so it's pretty cool to just walk around and escape the heat (but not the monkeys). Two paths in the park lead to the river. It's absolutely worth it to take the plunge and admire how the river "gnawed" its way through the picturesque countryside.

Threads of Life

This center produces textiles, according to all the old techniques. Actually, this is one of the main sources of income for this and neighboring villages. The center is a small gallery where they demonstrate the process of weaving, and there is also a shop where you can buy works. Most items take many months to produce, so don't be surprised when you see prices. Here you can also take part in master classes, during which you will learn the secrets of creating Indonesian textiles.

Puri Lukisan Museum (Museum Puri Lukisan)

This is the oldest art museum in Ubud. It is located in three pavilions, there are permanent and temporary exhibitions dedicated to the history and culture of Indonesia and Bali.
The gardens around the pavilions are also wonderful for walking. Unfortunately, many tourists do not know about this place at all. It must be that little is written about it on the Internet, and yet it is almost not indicated by arrows and signs, despite the fact that it stands next to the main road. We can recommend visiting this museum, even if you are not an ardent fan of art. It also hosts art and cultural workshops aimed at providing museum guests with a deeper understanding of the intricacies of everyday Balinese life. It's interesting!
The museum also offers master classes in creating puppets for the theater of shadows, kites and baskets, as well as in dancing, wood carving and painting (from 100,000 rupees). Most of the lessons last about half a day, and some, for example, on dolls, cover a full two days.

The Blanco Cultural Museum

Antonio Blanco is perhaps the most famous and successful artist who has ever lived in Bali. He built a magnificent studio on top of a mountain overlooking the Campoan river.
This bright building, a unique mixture of Balinese architecture, is imbued with the spirit of Spain (the birthplace of the master). Here is an interesting collection of works from different periods of the artist's long career. The artist, with his "Catalan charisma", earned himself the nickname "The Fabulous Blanco" ("The Magnificent Blanco"). You already want to go, don't you? The gallery is surrounded by luxurious gardens, where a lot of birds live. For example, the rare Balinese starling, parrots of all kinds, toucans, and at least one bird of paradise. The artist passed away over 15 years ago, but today the studio is run by his son, who is also an artist. Set aside at least one hour for sightseeing.

Neka Art Museum

The Neka Art Museum was opened in 1982 and named after the Balinese teacher Suteya Neka, who collected paintings and local art. The museum now houses a large number of works by many famous Balinese artists and expatriates who have lived here. The museum is very popular with tourists, so you will see hordes of foreigners here. If possible, it is better to visit the museum between tour groups or closer to 17:00.
Absolutely pleasant peaceful place where it's great to wander from pavilion to pavilion (buildings different styles were built here in the last century). Art connoisseurs can easily get lost here for several hours, and those who were brought here by random interest can flutter out in 20 minutes. If you have only a slight interest in Balinese art, then it is better to visit the Puri Lukisan museum instead. If you are one of those who are interested in traditional art, go to both museums.
