How to get to monkey island in nha trang. In the monkey kingdom, or guardsmen, artists and prisoners. Dog racing and circus performance

Going to Monkey Island, tourists not only admire exotic natural landscapes, plunging into the romantic atmosphere, but also have fun here with the monkeys. It has become an attractive ecotourism destination, attracting numerous international tourists.

Monkey Island in Vietnam

Located 15 km north of the coastal town, Nha Phu Bay is a poetic paradise with blue waves, turquoise waters and natural landscapes. In such peaceful landscapes, Monkey Island, also known as Khon Lao Island, becomes like a sparkling gem among the vast blue sea, which seems to decorate everything around.

The reason Hon Lao Island was named Monkey Island is because there are over 1,500 monkeys living on the island. This is also one of the interesting things that makes Hong Lao so much brighter in the eyes of travelers in Nha Trang tourism.

The monkeys on the island fall into 2 categories: Macaca Rhérus and Macaca Fassicularit. They are very friendly and entertain tourists. There are 3 groups of monkeys on the island, all of them are under the control and management of a male monkey. This monkey is called the king of monkeys, he has a beautiful face, muscular and powerful body. Almost any tourist who arrives there wants to see the monkey king and take a picture of him, but this is very difficult, because the leaders hide and do not show themselves to people and love it when their subordinate individuals bring food to them.

Immersed in one of the most magnificent sights in Nha Trang, tourists will be enchanted by the wild natural parks that offer a fresh atmosphere. Pristine reefs blend against the blue background of the sea along with colorful coral reefs, promise the perfect pastime to relax.

Going to the Monkey Island, tourists have the opportunity to admire the roadside scenery with a coconut forest, where the first detachment of monkeys lives. A feature of the local monkeys will be the yellow coat color, which looks pretty funny. From the coconut forest, tourists enter the territory of the second order of monkeys. This unit retains a darker crest on the top of its head. There are many monkeys carrying their little babies with red fur and a curious face.

Skillfully trained circus monkeys are very amusing to the visiting audience, especially children. Tourists admire fascinating performances such as “monkey catching balls”, “monkey knocking rice”, “monkey doing fitness”, “monkey passing obstacles” and “monkey on carousel”…. Especially when walking through the wild forest of the island, tourists are undoubtedly surprised and amazed by the natural, friendly and mischievous monkeys, which creates an intimate feeling with wildlife.

Smooth sandy shores about 500m long, like silk stripes, make tourists enjoy the blue sea water right under your feet. In addition, Monkey Island offers tourists exciting beach games such as jet ski, parachute or kayak. Tourists who love speed and thrill cannot refuse the Prokart rally. Tourists can enjoy the mystical beauty at the bottom of the ocean along with professional guides to explore hidden beauty coral castle And marine life in modern diving equipment ...

Monkey Island is calm in the evening for those who like to swim, admire nature and contemplate the sunset.

How to get to Monkey Island

From Nha Trang to the North Port you can take buses No. 1, 3. Ferries depart regularly to the island, the cost of a round-trip ticket for 1 person is 150,000 VND.

If you are going on vacation with children to Vietnam or you are relaxing here for the first time, then I recommend taking a tour, I will tell you about prices a little lower, and for those who are interested full list excursions from Nha Trang and other cities of Vietnam, then we read the article ‘ ‘. If you have already been here, then of course we will go to Nyafu Island on our own, for this we take a taxi and go to the river station.

It is worth clarifying the situation a little, this place is one of the islands of Nyafu, do not think that this is only one island, in fact, Nyafu includes two areas: the island of monkeys and orchids. The tour, as a rule, is carried out in all directions at once, if you only need monkeys, then it is easiest to get to them on your own. Well, now let's move on to the price category of this tour.

Monkey Island Prices in Vietnam

When booking an excursion, I noticed several differences, each travel agency calls this excursion differently and stops many tourists, sometimes even tourists manage to book not what they wanted, so I will list all the options as the excursion can be called:

  • Excursion to Monkey Island
  • Tour of the Nyafu Islands
  • Excursion to the northern islands

What are the prices for tourists here?

Everyone's prices travel agencies different, so we take the average values, for those tourists who decide to visit only monkey island, the cost will be 120,000 dong per adult and 60,000 dong per child under 5 years old. Tour to Nyafu for independent tourists will cost 400,000 dong per adult and 250,000 dong per child. As for travel agencies in Vietnam, street tours will cost $ 39, tour operators offer this excursion already for $70 per adult and $38 per child.

How much to get?

First we need to get to the northern port of the city by bike or taxi. The fare from the center to the port will be 20,000 dong, on a bike either free of charge or the price will be equal to the cost of rent. From the port to the destination by sea transport, go 50 minutes at a calm pace, to next place the trip will be only 20 minutes.

What should you know when visiting this place?

You should definitely remember that it is only allowed to feed the monkeys here with chips or dry fruits, they are sold in sufficient quantities here, so if you didn’t have time to buy food, don’t worry. As for food, we give in small portions and do not show the whole package. There have been cases when animals fly into a person and begin to gnaw their hands in mass to tear off a bag of food, take this very seriously, especially watch out for children.

As for bananas, I still don’t understand why, but here it’s forbidden to give bananas in any form, so we don’t take bananas with us. In any case, you will be reminded of this again on the island itself, and they will also give you a short briefing. By the way, unlike in Thailand, animals here do not like to pluck gold jewelry and earrings, so we don’t worry about it.

Well, that's the whole story, if you decide to take a tour, then after visiting this place you will be taken to orchid island. If you briefly talk about the island of orchids, then there you can feed the ostrich and deer, see circus show with bears on a bike, eat deliciously in a restaurant and drink a fresh fresh drink from a bar, you can also ride a jet ski and swim here. Well, that's all the information, who liked it, I'll be glad for the likes and clicks on social networks, do not forget to subscribe to my blog and fresh articles about tourism.

They are found everywhere - especially often they can be seen on beaches, in parks and in. For the natives, they are part of Everyday life, its backdrop. Some of these human ancestors remained wild. They are cautious and try to stay away from people. But there are such representatives of the Banderlog people who are overly favored and lured. This is the merit of tourists who cannot pass by a funny macaque without giving her a handout. Primates are quite unpredictable - in the first minute of close contact they will allow themselves to be stroked, and in any other they will find any opportunity to steal something from you.

What monkeys are found in Thailand

With the highest degree of probability, a monkey seen in Thailand will be a macaque or a gibbon. These are just those beggars who are engaged in racketeering in places where tourists gather. In the jungles of the country there are also langurs, as well as orangutans. These animals rarely come down to earth and most spend time on the upper tier of tree thickets, they usually avoid people.

gibbons

Gibbons in Thailand often perform the duties of a pet. The locals call them "lar", they have a white mask on the muzzle, and the body is beige and black. The periodic hooting that comes from the jungle in the morning is the sounds made by gibbons. They are graceful and beautiful, capable of deftly performing acrobatic stunts and climbing trees. Their popularity is the reason for poaching, which has become so massive that some of the gibbons have to be seized and kept in rehabilitation centers so that they can return to their usual habitat.

macaques

Macaques in Thailand live everywhere. They use the lower tier of woody vegetation for overnight stays and as shelter. They forage on the ground, especially often found along the banks of rivers and lakes, where they extract mollusks and small crustaceans in shallow water. In and Phang Nga, they adapted to harvest sea crabs and mussels. These animals not only climb well, but also swim, they are able to dive. Food supplies are carried in cheek pouches, almost like hamsters.

monkey banquet

Held once a year, on the last Sunday of November. The scene of action is the temple of Phra Prang Sam Yot near the city of Lop Buri, which is one and a half hundred kilometers from. The tradition began in 1988, but the festival is associated with a legendary event - the help of the army of monkeys led by Hanuman to the supreme deity Rama in the battle with the demon Ravana. Citizens bring sweets, fruits and other delicacies to a table 7 meters long. In 2011, there were almost 4 tons.

Usually more than five hundred monkeys take part in the feast. Their appetite is excellent, which cannot be said about manners. By the end of the event, the table is completely destroyed, and the gorged primates sit on the branches of trees and throw bits, leftovers and soda cans at tourists. In the evening, tourists are invited to the monkey performance "Ramak", conducted under the guidance of experienced trainers.

monkey college

On local population adapted to use the energy of monkeys for peaceful purposes. They look for the ripest nuts in the coconut plantations. This island even has road signs in a literal translation into Russian - "Monkeys work on coconut plantations". Do not be too lazy to stop and watch the labor impulse of dexterous poison dart frogs. On the day they collect from 700 to 1 thousand coconuts. For the education of macaques, the Monkey College is organized. It is located in the city of Surat Thani. In addition to instilling production skills, they are taught to entertain tourists. There is a similar establishment at. There is also a daily monkey show.

monkey island

- This is a piece of land with an area of \u200b\u200b24 hectares, located south of. They were brought there for the purpose of entertaining tourists, who were originally pilots of the US Air Force. Having no natural enemies, the primate colony multiplied to an incredible size. There are thousands of them. In the absence of visitors, macaques feed on crabs and mussels. But the main source of food is the offerings of tourists. Seeing the boat, the entire monkey herd falls ashore and waits for it to land. Then the real orgy begins. Animals literally go over their heads and drag everything that is bad and good. The number of stolen cameras, smartphones and small wearable items is incalculable.

monkey mountain

Monkey mountain in Thailand is Monkey Hill in Phuket. It is located near, approximately in the middle between the village of Ang Sila and Saen Beach. There are a lot of macaques there and they are busy with their usual business - racketeering. At the entrance to the park there is a shop selling green bananas. Without them, it’s better not to climb the hill, you won’t fight back. Be very careful with monkeys. They can bite. Take care of cameras and other things: macaques rummage through purses without hesitation.

Monkey is dangerous!

Treating a monkey as a cool, harmless little animal cannot be considered correct. She is kind only as long as she is full or accidentally strayed from the herd. Then she can even allow herself to be stroked. A friendly team of primates is equivalent to a gang of gopniks in a dark alley, and if they are hungry, then their impudence exceeds all limits. They are able to steal everything from a tourist that their playful hands can reach, and in a mass attack, resistance is completely useless. Therefore, in places where monkeys gather, be extremely careful and careful. If something valuable has been stolen from you, then you can return it, but only at the first moment, and not by force, but by exchange for something edible. If the monkey does not find something useful for itself in the stolen thing, then it will tear or break it. Do not climb to the monkey with hugs. She can easily bite. In this case, contact your doctor immediately. The animal may be rabid.

If bitten by a monkey...

So, what to do if bitten by a monkey in thailand? Even if you were not bitten, but scratched, be sure to wash the wound clean water and treat with iodine or a similar antiseptic. After that, be sure to consult a doctor, since a wild and unvaccinated animal can be a carrier of the same diseases that are dangerous to humans - measles, polio, rabies, tuberculosis and others. In general, the entire list of diseases from the medical encyclopedia.

The simplest security measures

The largest number of monkeys in Thailand hang out on the territory Buddhist temples. The reason for this is the offerings of visitors to the supreme and other minor deities. And also where they are bred specifically for the amusement of tourists or travelers fed them themselves. If you intend to visit such places, try to have nothing but clothes with you. Handbags, umbrellas, cameras - everything that stands out for the size of a tourist or dangles on him can attract the attention of a primate. If you take a video camera, then it is better to let it be an inexpensive "soap box". Try to stay away from females with cubs and do not offend members of the monkey team, because somewhere nearby there may be a dominant male or female who will definitely take measures to protect them. In a collective attack, try to retreat quickly.

Even 30-40 years ago, this island was a large monkey nursery. The Vietnamese raised monkeys by the thousands and sent them to different countries, mainly in the USSR, for scientific purposes. This is putting it mildly. If harder, then for laboratory experiments. In the Union any a cute uncle-scientist injected a vaccine to a macaque, and then waited - he would die or just get covered with a rash and go bald. It was a terrible time ... But now everything is different. Come with us to Monkey Island! I'll show you everything and tell you!

On our last morning in Nha Trang, we planned to leave at two interesting places. The first one is just Monkey Island, and the second - mountain waterfalls Baho, somewhere in the jungle near Nha Trang. We got on a bike and rode north from the city along the Hanoi highway. The road is good, the traffic is not very busy. After 18 km we saw such an arch with dragons - this is the entrance to the ship's pier.

From here you can go not only to Monkey Island, but also to Orchid Island. Ticket prices are very budgetary - 50-70 thousand dongs ($ 2.5-3.5) per person. If you take a full-day tour with the capture of three islands, you will need to pay 350 thousand ($17.5). Detailed price - in the photo below.

These small motor boats go to the islands.

We drove for a short time, 10-15 minutes - and now you can see the beach of the monkey island.

Most of the island is covered with impenetrable jungle, and only a small piece is ennobled especially for tourists. It's beautiful here, just like everywhere else. tourist places in Vietnam. Remember, that ?

You can travel around the island in a horse-drawn carriage. The pleasure is worth 100 thousand dong per person (5 dollars). We preferred not to waste our money and went to the monkey park on foot. And here is the entrance to the monkey house under open sky. You can only feed macaques outside those gates. It is very important to follow this rule so that the monkeys do not get used to going out of the gate to the rest of the island. You don't want to share your lunch at an island restaurant with a dozen monkeys, do you?

Even on the pier, we bought a pound of small wild Vietnamese apples for a dollar (of course, they are called somehow differently), so we did not buy any food on the island itself. Remember this detail well. This is very important because animals here are tamed to some particular delicacy, which the park staff put in black bags. If you go with such a package, then the monkeys know that you have goodies to take away. And if you don't give it back in a good way, they'll take it by force. Want to check it out? The photo below was taken moments before Three vicious macaques hung on this cute Australian.

Of course, we realized about the black bags already at the exit from the monkey house. If we had known about this earlier, we would never have done what I will tell you about next.

More than a thousand monkeys live on the island. Of course, you won't see everyone. I can't even imagine what does this thousand monkeys look like. They come to feed in small flocks. According to international simian rules, adults dine first.

The kids are scared to the side.

This mother sat under her "shady" tree all the time she was feeding. Maybe not hungry, or maybe her children and grandchildren will bring her something for lunch?

Here's another funny couple. Somewhere dug up nuts and sit chewing.

I have already written about how the monkey subtly feels who is in front of them. If you are a fragile woman and you have at least a drop of fear inside, then be sure the monkeys will feel it and will treat you rudely. If in front of them is a man - the head of his human flock, then the macaques will be cute and cautious, because who wants to get a hump with a stick. See how this rather large male carefully takes the apple from Arinka. If Sasha had not been around, he would have behaved differently. How do I know all this? Read my posts or about.

Oh, they gave food, but forgot to drink. Now some water...

These guys don't care about food. The fight against annoying fleas is on the agenda.

The baby bears a striking resemblance to its mother, doesn't it? Oh those genetics...

Here we are tired of just feeding the monkeys. If you want to eat, you have to work hard. Sasha imagined himself a great trainer.

And you can also try not to give an apple ...

If you have been reading our blog for a long time, then you know that Arina is a big animal lover. Give her free rein, maybe or. Arina also loves monkeys very much, but little monkeys are completely indifferent to Arina.

And this photo is an ode to monkey flexibility. Can you do that? I can only do it if I help my leg with both hands

On Monkey Island, macaques not only live, but also work. The circus performs acrobatic tricks. The show is pretty funny. Admission is free, or rather included in the price of a ticket to the island.

We also had time for dog racing. The trainer teases the dog with fresh meat before the race.

If you don’t rush anywhere, then you can spend at least the whole day on this island. There is a restaurant where they serve crocodile and ostrich barbecue, And beautiful beach With clear water and clean sand.

But we spent only an hour and a half on Monkey Island, and then drove further north from Nha Trang to pass. More on that next time.

Monkey Island trip budget:

Bike rental - 100 thousand dong (5 dollars)

Entrance tickets 140 thousand VND (7 dollars)

Monkey feeding apples - VND 20,000 ($1)

Total - 13 dollars. If you go for the whole day, then cook for lunch and water another 10-15 dollars for two.

If you are interested in what will happen next on our journey from the south to the north of Vietnam, you can subscribe to the newsletter in groups in in social networks or by email. All the buttons you need are at the bottom of the page.

Funny and mischievous, smart and prudent, sometimes cunning, sometimes good-natured. These adjectives can be safely attributed to monkeys, of which there are a huge number in Asia. Often these cute creatures form groups that a person simply cannot ignore.

I immediately recall the Monkey Forest in Bali, abundantly populated by these animals. Or Jigokudani, the snow monkey spa in Japan, is the one where macaques bask in geothermal waters.

China also has a similar place, proudly called Monkey Island.

Monkey Island on the map

  • Geographic coordinates 18.401539, 109.973944
  • The distance from the capital of China, Beijing, is approximately 2470 km.
  • Distance to nearest International Airport Sanya Phoenix about 60 km

Let's say right away that Monkey Island is called a small peninsula that is part of Hainan Island, in the southern part of the country. Sometimes the whole of Hainan is called Monkey Island. Of course, it abounds with macaques, but their maximum number per unit area falls on a small piece of land in the southern part of the island. According to all the laws of geography, this is a peninsula, but this place is called an island in order to attract more visitors here.

Here is located environmental center Nanwan Houdao (full original name of Nanwan Houdao Island Ecological Scenic Spot). The territory of the park is covered with dense forests and mountains. More than 2000 monkeys live on an area of 1000 hectares. And they live in natural conditions for themselves. The scientists of the center observe them, their behavior, and the peculiarities of life. There are practically no changes in the landscape, with the exception of paths laid especially for tourists. It is forbidden to descend from them, so as not to harm the natural habitat of macaques. There is, however, a pleasant innovation for monkeys - a pool. Yes, the pool was built for animals. In it, they freely bathe and even swim. different styles. Watching macaques is a very interesting and exciting activity.

You can get to Monkey Island with excursion group or on your own. There are two ways to the park - by water on a boat or boat, and by air using a cable car.

At the entrance to the reserve you will be met by monkeys with colorful flags. True, there is a not entirely pleasant moment - these monkeys are tied, and I feel not quite free, unlike many of my brethren, briskly galloping nearby.

Freer macaques are not at all afraid of humans. On the contrary, they boldly approach tourists and beg for all sorts of goodies. But you can’t feed them with food brought with you. All provisions will be taken from you at the entrance, even if you took it for yourself. If you still want to feed the animals, then for a small fee you can buy special food for monkeys right in the park.

A typical tour includes an arrival at the park on cable car(by the way, its length is 2138 meters). But before that, you will definitely be taken to local villages, where they will strongly persuade you to buy some terribly healing potions and souvenirs that are extremely important in everyday life. The return journey from Monkey Island usually takes a boat through the village of "sea people". This is an interesting village, completely consisting of boats in which people live right on the water. You will definitely be taken to a small restaurant on the water. Its menu consists of a large number seafood. But the smell in this place is appropriate and quite specific.

Performances are held directly in the park for visitors. The main roles are of course monkeys. Usually these are two types of performances: theatrical and circus. They are held outdoors in different time. The park has a schedule of these events and their venues. Performance arenas are just a few benches around a small area with "actors".

There is an interesting point in these representations. Cashier birds fly around the impromptu "hall". No, this is not a species of birds, but their labor activity. As soon as you raise your hand with a bill, a bird flies up to it and takes the money.

And of course, on Monkey Island, for a modest fee, you can take traditional photos with macaques as a keepsake.

Some Features of Monkey Island

  • as in any other case, we strongly recommend not to annoy the monkeys, do not anger them or provoke them
  • you can't get off the footpaths
  • try to hide all jewelry and shiny things (you probably understand why)
  • there are no temples and other buildings here - this is the maximum habitat macaque habitats (with the exception of impromptu circus and theater arenas where performances are held)
  • Monkey Island is open for visits from 8-00 to 16-30
  • admission is paid, but children up to 1m 20 cm are free
