Where is the best place to go hiking?

This is a very spatial question, to which there is no, and in principle there cannot be, any single answer! It all depends on your personal preferences and your level of training. It is clear that if you have several walks in the woods behind you with an overnight stay on the weekend, you should not go for difficult routes, especially if your company will not experienced tourists who have already tested themselves on routes of such complexity.

As for personal preferences, there are a lot of options too. If you love water, it will probably be interesting and exciting for you to raft down some mountain river. Although you may be happy to stand for a week or two in the camp near some quiet forest lake, hidden from human civilization in the deep wilds. Or the love of water will bring you to the warm coast of our beloved Black Sea.

If you love mountains, then again, you have a lot of options to have a great time without leaving Russia. You can go to the Caucasus, since 2014 it has become possible to travel to the Crimea (without going abroad). Also of particular interest is Subpolar Urals with its seemingly small, but rather difficult, in terms of ascents, peaks.

Therefore, it is up to you to decide exactly where you will go! The main thing is to soberly weigh your capabilities and the strength that will be required of you on the route. Sometimes it's better to have a fun and stress-free walk on an easier route than to exhaust yourself and leave your health on a more difficult route that you set off on without the appropriate training and equipment.

With whom to go hiking?

This question is even more complicated than the previous one. Imagine that from morning to evening you will see the same faces that at some point can get you very tired (some faces can turn into faces in a couple of days, they will spoil your mood for the rest of the time). Unfortunately, on routes, especially on long ones (lasting more than two weeks), conflicts often break out due to growing personal hostility. Therefore, think carefully about this question, it is very important, since a good and trusted friend in a difficult situation can do much more than a person who pretends to be a professional, but turns out to be an ordinary empty shell.

Do not take a person with you on a hike who is not interested in this in principle, because on the route you can hear a lot of impartial words addressed to him from him (why did you drag me here, etc.).

Personally, I generally like to go hiking alone and for two or three weeks I don’t experience any lack of communication. But walking alone (in my opinion) is possible only on the condition that you take your dog with you. Without a dog in the forest, and even on the river, it will be rather dreary, and in some places even dangerous. The dog not only brightens up loneliness, but also warns you in a timely manner about the approach of a wild beast. And her most important advantage is that she cannot speak, and for me, a city person, to be silent and listen to nature is a very great happiness.

What should be the equipment?

Equipment directly depends on the route you choose. If you are going to raft, then in addition to the usual equipment (backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, etc.), you will need some kind of watercraft. By the way, the choice of boats also depends on the chosen route, on some rivers you can raft in an ordinary rubber boat without any problems, but for fast mountain rivers more serious floating facilities (kayaks, catamarans, etc.) may be required.

If we talk about a simple hiking trip, then most likely you will need the following equipment on the route: a backpack (the size and type of a backpack depends on the duration of the route), a tent, a sleeping bag, a polyurethane mat, dishes. Take the rest as needed. And remember - everything that you take, you have to carry on yourself. Therefore, always think about whether you need this or that thing on the route, or if you can easily do without it.

How to dress?

Focus on the weather. If there is a risk that it may get colder, be sure to warm up, because it has been repeatedly checked - it is always colder on the route (rainier, windier, snowier, etc.) than expected.

I always take sneakers and rubber boots with me, sometimes I have to wear trekking boots instead of sneakers. It is very convenient to walk in parking lots in light slippers (slates).

What food to take on a hike?

Take everything that is stored for a long time and weighs little. Now there are a lot of products that contain practically no moisture and therefore weigh little (however, some of these products are quite voluminous). Do not forget to take stew and condensed milk, at least one can each. Be sure to take sugar and tea. The rest depends on your taste preferences. One of my friends, for example, always takes butter, coffee, cream and a loaf on the route (he likes to drink coffee with cream in the morning and eat a loaf with butter!).

Where to look for information and like-minded people

Basic hiking information can be found on travel websites, forums, and YouTube. If you already roughly understand what to take and where to go, read other people's trip reports. They are most often written by people with extensive experience, many travel to wild places in the Caucasus, Altai and even Kamchatka.

If none of your friends are ready to sign up for miles, cold nights and a bunch of insects yet, you can try to find like-minded people. There are quite a few tourist clubs and organizations, most often they are created on the basis of universities. To get to them, it is enough just to find them (it is not necessary to study at this university and in general to be a student). For those who do not trust amateur performances and want everything to be planned for them at first, there are tourist firms, which organize hiking. The routes that offer they may be more complex and picturesque.

What to take with you

First you need to find the most necessary things, without which you simply cannot arrange an overnight stay - this is a backpack, a tent and a sleeping bag. For short trips, a small backpack (35-50 liters) is suitable, for weekly trips and more, you will have to take 80-120 liters. The backpack should sit well on you, fit to your shoulders and back, have a comfortable belt.

It is best to take a regular tent, two or three people. At a cost, they start from a couple of thousand rubles.

For a warm summer, almost any cheap sleeping bag will do. For cold summers and other seasons, you should choose a sleeping bag more carefully, pay attention to the comfort temperature (the one with which you will sleep well in it and not freeze) and the extreme temperature (the one in which you will survive in this sleeping bag). Be sure to take a rug with you on a hike: it isolates from the cold and is needed in order to lay it on the bottom of the tent, and only then put a sleeping bag.

The minimum set for cooking on a camping trip is a burner, a gas bottle and a pan. Of the important things on a hike, it is also worth taking a knife, a lighter, a flashlight, repellent and a first aid kit. In summer, sunscreen is very useful.

From clothes it is better to take synthetic T-shirts (they dry faster) and any comfortable pants. Worn running shoes are also suitable for shoes, but it is better to choose special trekking shoes. You need to take with you warm sweatshirt or a fleece jacket, a raincoat and a few pairs of spare socks. For the cold season, you need a jacket with a hood, a hat, gloves and thermal underwear.

Where and how to look for it

All clothing and equipment can be found in sports chain stores like Sportmaster or Decathlon. There are also special tourist shops- they are usually more expensive. Many things can be found in a simple hypermarket: inexpensive dishes, rubber boots, clothes. If you are not in a hurry and want to save money, then order everything online in Chinese stores.

For the especially resourceful, the equipment budget can be close to zero. The most modest version of equipment can be collected for 5-6 thousand rubles, especially if you share some things for two or three friends. A more decent option with a comfortable backpack, a stable tent and a warm, compact sleeping bag will cost 15-20 thousand. Real madmen can spend endlessly.

What to put in a backpack and what to do with food

For a trip, it is very important to choose a route. For the first time, it is best to find ready-made routes on the Internet with detailed descriptions. The simplest and cheap option for orientation on the ground - a map (you must not forget to protect it from rain) and a compass. But it is worth saying that in the forest it is quite difficult to navigate along the trails if it is not a very well-traveled route. It is best to buy a navigator and have an application with maps on your phone for safety.

It is better to pack things in a backpack in modules (separate food, separate clothes, separate first-aid kit and hygiene products). Put heavy things on your back, so the backpack will be easier to carry. Be sure to pack your sleeping bag and change of clothes well so that they don't get wet. To protect against moisture, you can put things in special hermetic bags, but at first they can be replaced by vacuum bags and tight garbage bags fastened with tape.

The food you take with you should be stored for a long time. For her, there are two more important criteria: nutritional value and weight. Your set of meals should be both high in calories, contain protein and carbohydrates, and at the same time weigh a little so that you do not die under the weight of a backpack. Take with you different cereals, pasta, noodles, dry mashed potatoes, raw smoked sausage and stew, melted cheese, bread or crackers. From foreign tourists we got this thing called the trail mix. This is a mix of different snacks: nuts, dried fruits, seeds, dryers, banana chips, muesli, M&M's and everything else you can think of. The trail mix is ​​a life saver during transitions and when there is no time for lunch.

If there is space, you can take something nice for yourself and eat on the first day. It can be a chocolate bar, a can of cola, a couple of apples or mom's pie.

Anything can happen in nature, so be sure to take a first aid kit with you. It should have everything for dressings, painkillers, antipyretics, medicines for the stomach, colds and allergies. You also need to take into account personal intolerance to drugs and do not forget to take those medications that you may need. Even better would be to spare no expense and take first aid courses or look for free medical lectures.

If you are already on a campaign, it is very important to properly distribute forces. Alternate walking and rest time. Ideally, you need to walk for 40-50 minutes, then rest for 10-15 minutes and alternate. On a hike, always keep active and have enough energy: have a hearty breakfast, have lunch in the middle of the day, and also have a hearty dinner, preferably with hot food (to avoid freezing at night). It is better to start the day early in the morning, and in the evening set up camp before dark. When hiking, be sure to keep an eye on the amount of remaining water and calculate its consumption in advance.

On a hike, as in any journey, something unforeseen can happen. For example, the weather may deteriorate sharply. In this case, you should be well equipped and always have options for adjusting the route. A more unpleasant moment is possible injuries, poisoning, overheating and the usual manifestations of diseases that are not terrible in the city, but can make you worry in nature. It also often happens that not all participants in the campaign find mutual language in the field. In the campaign, everything is the same as everywhere else: some are tired, others pretend to be leaders, others frankly interfere. The only difference is that you can't all go your separate ways easily. You just need to be mentally prepared for such things and, if anything, take everything into your own hands.

It happens that the very tourist club or travel agency providing paid services has something like a book of complaints and suggestions. Look into them. If the organization is old and there are a lot of different reviews in the book and they react sensitively to criticism in the organization, trying to understand what the problem is and answer their client, then everything is fine. If such a book is empty, then it is worth considering whether this tourist club is rubbing all the criticism against them!? It's better not to deal with them. Also, you should not deal with those organizations that initially put forward a lot of unreasonable requirements to the client. Particular care must be taken with those organizations which require the client's personal data BEFORE the client pays them money Giving your personal data to scammers, you risk getting a lot of problems. Fraudsters, for example, may start extorting money from you by inducing you to pay for their "services" and blackmailing you by publishing your personal information online. I'm not kidding. I know at least one such "tourist club". REMEMBER. All personal information you are reported ONLY AFTER you have paid them the money. Until this glorious moment, no one has the right to demand your personal data from you.
In addition, be sure to pay attention to the personality of the organizers of the event. If they have an obvious connection with known destructive sects, run from them like fire! However, you are unlikely to enjoy a hike with some kind of liberal who has gone.

3. Make an advance payment(25% of the trip cost) to book a place in a group. Prepayment is possible in cash at the office or by bank transfer to the settlement account of our organization. Details will be sent by the coordinator.

4. Buy tickets(not usually required for a weekend trip). The cost of tickets is not included in the cost of the trip.     • Take the lantern. For night hikes or the need to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, a portable light source is a must. Make sure you have the required batteries for it.
    • Take matches packed in a plastic bag, or a lighter with a gas cartridge for it. Lanterns are great in the dark, but you'll also need to build a fire if the campsite you're going to doesn't have the necessary cooking supplies. Also, don't forget to bring fire paper.
    • Take a map of the area with you. In case you get lost and you don't have your phone with you, you should find a place for your tent city. To better navigate, take a compass; simply align the compass so that the edges of the arrow connect your current location and your destination. Follow the white arrow that indicates your intended destination.
    • Take a first aid kit with you. Being able to bandage and disinfect a wound received in the wilderness is one of the top priorities. Remember the motto of the Boy Scouts: “Be ready!”.

    Choosing a tent

    2. Pay attention to the material from which the tent is made. Some tents are made under certain conditions.

      Choose a tent with a wide dome. If you are camping with relatives, you will often have to share your tent with your wife, brother or sister.

      triangular tents. These are standard tents for solo trips or if you want to sleep in them alone.

      Half tent. These tents have three curved arches placed in parallel and an extended canopy on both sides to give the shape of the tent and maintain stability.

      Self-folding tent. These folding tents are already pre-assembled and just unpack them and put them on the ground.

        Reserve a seat. Campsites can be organized on public or private grounds. In any case, it is often necessary to notify the organizers well in advance.

        Count the number of people in the camp. Before setting up a campsite, you should notify the manager that you will be spending time safely.
