What to see on the Krabi Islands - sights of the province of Thailand. Solo trip to Krabi. What to see, our itinerary and review. Blue lake and emerald pool

Krabi is a fairly popular resort two hours overland from Phuket. Krabi is a paradise luxurious beaches, palm trees, azure waters, high cliffs and cliffs. In short, a solid bounty corner. This part of the land is famous for its shell deposits! Beautiful Krabi is no longer inferior to Phuket and Pattaya in popularity, so be prepared for crowds of tourists. Although there are only about 25 thousand local residents here.

All the fun in Krabi happens on Ao Nang is a beach line with hotels, restaurants, bars and diving centers.
And, if you want a little more tranquility, head to Hat Nopharat Thara - a secluded beach. No less beautiful is Laem Phra Nang Cape, which embraces the beaches from three sides - the coolest beach of which is - Hat Phra Nang. And also, it’s great to climb caves, admire the rocks, sit on a cliff and, of course, take cool pictures. Do not forget that best time for holidays in Krabi - from November to April.

In Krabi, everything is for tourists, and most of locals here also work in the tourism sector. So, you don’t have to worry about entertainment venues. As for any attractions, there are not very many of them. So, as an alternative to lying on the beach, you can visit the following places:

Wat Khlong Thom Museum

If you would like to know a little more about prehistoric civilization, then you are here. We leave to the southeast from Krabi and stop in the place of Klong Thom, the ride will take about half an hour. The museum houses a wonderful collection of archaeological finds that were discovered in the lands near the ancient temple in this settlement. Also impressive is the collection of ancient stones, bronze tools, coins, pottery, household utensils and art objects, which, for a moment, are already about 5,000 years old. The exhibits have captions in English, if it helps you, of course. This museum is usually open every day from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Tiger Cave Temple, Wat Tham Suea

Wat Tham Sua is located three kilometers north of Krabi, in the middle picturesque forest. This temple can be reached by taxi or tuk-tuk - it's very close. The Buddhist temple is located in a cave, and it is named so because a tiger's paw print was found in the cave on one of the stones (or maybe because the shape of the cave resembles a tiger's paw). Today, 250 monks live in this temple. The temple is divided into two parts - below and above. To get to the top floor, you will have to sweat and overcome as many as 1237 steps. But, believe me, these torments due to the all-inclusive kilogram thrown over a couple of days are worth it.
On the top platform, you can enjoy a luxurious panoramic view of the rubber thickets, mountains and snow-white beaches of Krabi. And at the top there is a statue of Buddha and there is an imprint of his foot.
You can also visit the Sitting Buddha Pagoda. Numerous huts-cells of monks stand in the forest near the monastery.

Khao Phanom Bencha National Park

This reserve is located on an area of 50 sq. km. On the territory of the park - an infinite number of streams, waterfalls and mysterious caves. And what trees and flowers grow there! The pearl of the park is the Nam Tok Huai waterfall.
It is quite easy to find it, because it is located half a kilometer from the entrance to the reserve. Jets of water flow down high cliffs in 11 impressive pools, each of which, by the way, has its own name (I think it makes no sense to list).

Another beautiful waterfall called Nam Tok Huai Sade located a kilometer from the entrance - this is also a very picturesque place.
Next we follow to Tham Khao Ping cave, which is located 3 kilometers from the gate. The walls and ceiling of the cave are covered with stalactites and stalagmites of the most fantastic shapes. In general, the place is extremely picturesque and peaceful.

Wat Kaew

Keu Temple (Keukoravaram) in the center of Krabi is not very big, smaller than the Tiger Cave Temple. But still, quite impressive, also with steps. To find this temple, follow the main street of the city (which runs next to the Vogue Department Store). The temple will mark itself with two large golden snakes - this is the entrance to the temple. These snakes in Thai ideology are called the Great Naka (or Naga), and they are designed to drive away evil spirits from the temple, however, they cannot crawl inside the temple either. The snakes wrap around the stairs to the temple. The temple itself has white walls and a bright blue roof. It's not very tourist place so it's pretty quiet for the most part. Inside the temple is also very bright and very beautiful. The walls are painted azure, the ceiling is red.
Interestingly, near the temple you can see cats, dogs, chickens and even peacocks. Some animals are thrown into the temple locals. Near the temple there is a nice park with a waterfall and a lake, as well as interesting nearby elephant statues. By the way, if you climb a little higher, you will find the city walls painted with scenes of Krabi life - at least that was the case in 2012

Fossil Shell Beach Fossil Shell Beach

Susaan Khoi is an amazing and rare beach. There is something like it in Japan and the USA, however, these places are much smaller there. In general, on this beach there are ancient pressed clusters of shells.
Some of these fossils are over 40 million years old. Scientists suggest that this area was once a fresh swamp.
Then it dried up and became dry land - that was 200 thousand years ago. The shells formed a calcareous layer of 40 cm, which eventually split into plates. You can take a look at this miracle in three places. The first location is just to the east of information center, the second point is right near the center, and the third appears only at low tide, but the sediment layer here is up to 5 centimeters. All these natural finds are valuable to the point of disgrace, and scientists are constantly working on them. This beach is located southwest of the center of Krabi.

So luxurious and interesting place, this Krabi resort! We choose instead of the usual Pattaya!

How amazing and diverse Thailand is! Krabi province, or rather, Ao Nang beach, where we spent the weekend, is not far from Phuket, but it feels like a completely different world.

Ao Nang is surrounded by limestone cliffs, creating a unique atmosphere. The legendary and beautiful islands of Phi Phi, James Bond and a lot of lesser known, but no less fabulous islands, rich and colorful undersea world for lovers of snorkeling - all this is collected in one place. But in addition, there are no less interesting sights in the vicinity: from caves and temples to hot springs.

From the article you will learn:

How to get to Krabi from Phuket

From Phuket to Krabi can be reached by bus or ferry. The Phuket-Krabi Ferry departs from Rassada Pier in Phuket Town. On the road about 2 hours. The ferry ticket costs 1000 baht. You can check the schedule and prices here >>

Getting from Krabi to Phuket is even easier. In Ao Nang, transfers “ferry + minivan to the hotel” or just a minivan from Krabi to Phuket are sold at almost every step. But we honestly don't like Thai minivans. They are inconvenient for long trips. An hour or two is fine, but longer is not.

Hotels in Krabi. Where we lived in Ao Nang

There are many housing in Krabi, but we went on holidays (February 14) and weekends, so we did not take risks. Booked a simple bamboo bungalow in Aonang Friendly Bungalow in advance. The bungalow cost us $15/day.

The bungalow is located in a quiet and peaceful tropical garden near one of the rocks. The view is awesome. But the quality of housing is another experiment. We had never lived in such a bamboo dwelling before. It has a lot of cons, but it's very affordable. To be honest, I wouldn't book this place again.

Excursions in Krabi

Prices for excursions start from 500 baht. For example, for a one-day sea excursion on a longtail boat, we paid 700 baht per person.

We bought all excursions in Krabi from Thais in a kiosk. Tours can now be bought in advance online at the same prices or cheaper on Kluk. Now I always compare prices first, and then I buy where better conditions and price.

What to see in Krabi in 3 days

Our trip to Krabi turned out to be very eventful. In 3 days we managed to visit a lot different places. I will group the sights in the order in which we visited them. Suddenly someone wants to repeat our sortie.

Day 1

Leaving our things in the bungalow, the first thing we did was to … eat, then look for a bike. To our surprise, in Krabi it is necessary to leave a passport: no one wanted to take a photocopy. In Phuket, this is easier: Thais sometimes didn’t even take a copy - they took a passport photo on their mobile phone and that’s it.

Of course, the first reaction was “fuck you, not your passport”, but in the end my passport joined the thick stack of passports of other farangs who rented a bike. Bike prices are about the same as in Phuket. Honda PCX 150 traded for 300 baht/day. And let's go.

Tiger Cave and Tham Sua Temple in Krabi

Temple Wat Tham Sua is located 20 km from Ao Nang i.e. near. A lot has been said about this place. beautiful legends. They say that in old times, tigers lived in the caves near the temple. Large striped cats rested here after hunting, growling menacingly from time to time. Hence the name - Tiger caves (Tiger caves).

Later, monks settled in the Tiger caves. Now Wat Tham Sua is one of the largest Buddhist complexes Thailand, consisting of an unfinished 100-meter cheda, a cave, a monastery and various ancillary buildings, and most importantly, a sanctuary on top of a rock, where a staircase of 1237 steps leads.

When I remember those steps, I still shudder. Was the climb worth it? Definitely yes! Climbing up is a challenge, a test: I can, I can’t. And at the top - complete peace, tranquility and love emanating from the Buddha statue.

By the way, monkeys living somewhere in the rock like to sit on the stairs. It’s better not to tease them and keep an eye on things: if something is taken away, then everything is gone.

Forest Park at the Tiger Temple

At the foot of the cliff is forest park where centuries-old huge trees grow. Due to the fact that the trees race towards the sun, twilight reigns below.

The forest near the temple does not seem to have changed since prehistoric times. You walk and it feels like some dinosaur is about to jump out of the bushes. It is very quiet here, and it seems as if time has stopped in this place.

Forest Park is located at the foot of the cliff, in which the monks built themselves a dwelling for solitude and improvement of spiritual practices.

It looks like a ladder to the rock.

You come closer, and there is someone's cell.

To say that the place is atmospheric is an understatement.

Cave altar. Behind - centuries-old stalactites.

It's cold in the caves. Most of them are short, but all of them are mystical and mysterious.

This is how our acquaintance with the beauty of Krabi took place. The Tiger Temple is an amazing place. And the spiritual atmosphere, and the beauty of these places. Peace and delight, silence and songs of the wind, frozen time and a stairway to heaven - all this is collected in one unique place.

Day 2. Excursion to the islands

We spent the entire second day of our trip to Krabi at sea, trusting a Thai cap with a joint in his mouth and an invariably wide smile on his face.

We sailed on one of these longtails:

In the boat, besides us, at first there were a few more people: 2 Polish students, a bald man and an Asian couple.

In anticipation of the latecomers, we talked with the Poles. It turned out that they have been living in Asia for about 5 months. They settled in Indonesia, on the island of Java. Before that, they managed to visit the Philippines, Malaysia and northern Thailand (Chaing Mai). Of course, we began to share our impressions about the places where we were. Stopped in detail. The Poles really liked the city, it made such an impression on us: huge rats, catering with tasteless food and cars with bullet marks.

An Asian man seemed to be quietly listening to our conversation. Another thought flashed through my head that he looked like a Malaysian, but it was already impossible to stop me: and I said that durian is rare garbage, and it stinks - horror, and that Bangkok is still better than Kuala Lumpur.

My suspicions were justified: the couple turned out to be from Malaysia, who went to see the world and started from Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand). They live in Kuala Lumpur. They said that in Malaysia you need to go to Malacca, there are a lot of interesting things from colonial times, and in Kuala Lumpur you can’t really clear up. And then they also asked what time of the year it is better to go to Ukraine so as not to freeze, and whether there is at least something interesting there.

And then we swam.

Indescribable beauty. A couple of times we stopped to snorkel, but every time there was an epic fail. The water was a bit cloudy, you couldn't really see anything. Cap would just say "you should see white coral here" or "there are some cool fish swimming around here". Turn on your imagination and swim 🙂

We moored to the island, where, according to the cap, there are a lot of monkeys. Monkeys were not seen, there were only Thais with ice cream:

I don't remember exactly which island we landed on. At low tide you can walk between them. Which we did while the cap and his assistant were preparing a barbecue.

The sun was starting to set.

We decided to climb a small mountain on the island to take some pictures of the sunset.

When the sun almost set, the cap called everyone, "Now I'll show you a miracle." And indeed, from somewhere across the sky, a huge flock of birds flew. According to Cap, they fly out every evening. I don't know if they were bats or just birds. But after such a busy day, dinner on the fire turned out to be unforgettably delicious!

But the cap said he had another miracle in store for us. He was in no hurry to moor to the shore, but turned off the engine. The boat stopped. Music came from the shore. Cap showed us the starry sky and then scooped up a handful of... silver from the sea! The water is phosphorescent! I have never seen such a thing! It was wonderful. Yes, in the Black Sea at the end of summer the water is also phosphorus. But in Krabi... It was amazing. With the onset of darkness, the already beautiful sea turned into a silver lagoon! Oh Krabi!

Day 3. Excursion to the hot springs, Emerald pool, Blue Pool and kayaking in the mango grove

Hot springs in Thailand sound as strange as cold snow in Greenland. But the water from underground flows really hot.

The water is rushing downhill.

You have to walk from one source to another along a wooden platform.

Emerald Pool

They say it is healing and healing, so a crowd of tourists eager to heal is crowded into the small Emerald pool.

We had no desire to sit in the same hole with a crowd of Chinese. We went for a walk in the park, to admire nature.

We were lucky with the weather, sunny. Water like a mirror reflects both the sky and the greenery nearby.

The fern leaf is mysteriously beautiful.

blue pool

Blue pool is striking in its beauty. The water is fabulous in color, and it's good that swimming is not allowed here.

I have never seen water this color!

Kayaking through the mangroves

The last item on the program was kayaking through the mangroves. For some reason, the fabulous "mango groves" were diligently heard by me, and I was looking forward to them.

Before kayaking, we had lunch and fed the fish at the same time.

Here in this fabulous place we had lunch:

Kayaking did not cause any special impressions. Perhaps fatigue was taking its toll. I remember only the Chinese, who could not figure out how to rock. They roared loudly and constantly got stuck among the trees. The Thai, the head of the kayak group, kept shaking his head and saying "tea people".

The park has an observation deck with excellent views of the surroundings. To get to it, you need to go along a steep path to the very hill.
