In this publication, we will talk about another attraction of the province of Krabi, which every tourist, a connoisseur of unique natural views, should visit. These are mineral lakes and hot springs located on the territory of the forest Khao Park Pra Bang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary.

Khao Pra Bang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary is not formally a national park, it is little known among the broad masses of Western tourists, but very popular among local population. Other park names include Khao Nor Chuchi (sometimes spelled Khao Nor Chu Chi) and Khaopra-Bangkhram Nature Reserve. The park is known not only for its unique mineral lakes, but also for the only arrays of tropical rain forest. Having already visited several national parks Thailand, we can say with confidence that this forest park, even without having the status of a national park, sometimes surprises much more with its views. But first things first 🙂

How to get there

You can get into the forest park either by buying an excursion for about 1000 baht at any Krabi travel agency, or by making independent trip by car or motorbike. As everyone probably understood, we went there on a motorbike 🙂 In total, the road from the center of Krabi town takes about 50 km to the hot springs and another 7 km to the forest park itself with its lakes. The route can be seen on the map below.

For those who find it more convenient to print the route, we post it in PDF format indicating the main highways and turns.

hot springs and hot waterfall Ron Waterfall

Moving along this route, the traveler first enters the territory of Krabi Hot Springs. Formally, they are not related to the forest park itself and are located at a distance of 7 km from it. For foreign tourists entrance fee is 90 baht per person + 5 baht motorbike parking.

Tablet 🙂

The waterfall has already been adapted for hot baths. Its thresholds are poured artificially from concrete in such a way as to form comfortable baths. During the day, there are already quite a lot of people here, so it is best to come to the waterfall before 10 am.

A huge dragonfly is resting on a branch 🙂

I bathed in boiling water, now it is cooling 🙂

After swimming in a hot waterfall, you really feel like after a bath. Well, it's time to plunge into the coolness of the mineral lakes of Khao Pra Bang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary 🙂

Mineral lakes

The lakes of the forest park are famous for their unique shades and rich mineral composition. At the entrance to the park, its map immediately hangs, indicating all the attractions.

Entrance to the park for foreign tourists is paid and is 200 baht per person + 10 baht for parking a motorbike. When paying for tickets, you are given a booklet with information on English language and a map.

Map from booklet showing lakes

As well as to a hot waterfall, it is better to come to the forest park before 10 am, otherwise there will already be a lot of people here and all the buzz from viewing unique lakes will be lost.

First on the way we meet a small waterfall Tung Tiew. It's not even a waterfall, but a stream with steep rapids, formed by water flowing down from all the upper lakes. There is a small swimming pool here.

By forest paths we go deep into the park 🙂

The first on our way will be Crystal Lake (other names are Glass Pool, Crystal Pool, Sa Kaew). You can’t swim here, it will drag you to the bottom 🙂

next lake The main attraction of the park is the Emerald Lake. You can swim here, but you need to be careful, the rocks and shores are covered with a mixture of organic matter and minerals, which makes them very slippery.

Plenty of swimming in amazingly clean fresh water lake and admiring the combination of colors of its water and stones, we went further towards the Blue Lake.

The next in line is the Hermit's Lake and the sanctuary located next to it. The booklet invites us to make a wish here and in no case swim in the Hermit Pool (Hermit Pool or Sa Ruesi), otherwise we will fail.

The next attraction is a path through dense thickets of ferns. Quite a picturesque place.

The closer we get to the Blue Lake, the bluer everything becomes. Even the plants here are saturated with blue minerals, which gives them a unique hue.

And finally we come to an end hiking trail where the most awaits us amazing lake the entire park and the most amazing natural phenomenon that we have seen before - Blue Lake with a bright blue tint of water and a mineral spring bubbling at its bottom.

And here it is - Blue Lake (Blue Pool) or Sa Nam Phut

The video clearly shows that bubbles are rising from the bottom of the lake, and right in its center the sand is bubbling due to a mineral spring escaping outward.

Swimming is also prohibited here. After admiring the lake, we went back, but this time we took a different path - a wide gravel and shorter one.

This is where our review of the mineral lakes and hot springs of the Krabi province ends. We wish everyone who ever decides to visit Krabi to definitely get into these wonderful unique natural places 🙂

The province of Krabi, located in the southern part of Thailand, is famous primarily for its unique natural attractions. One of them is healing thermal springs.

You can visit them both as part of an excursion from a local travel agency and on your own.

Finding the hot springs of Krabi on the map is quite simple: they are all located south of the Krabi hot springs. administrative center along the highway that leads to Trang.

Krabi Hot Springs

To get to Krabi Hot Springs, you need to go towards Trang and pass the airport. 15 kilometers from the last you will see a sign, after it you need to turn right.

There are several pools with different water temperatures, so you can easily choose the most suitable option. The territory is ennobled: in between bathing, you can walk along the shady alleys and admire the altars and fountains, or just take a nap in the gazebo. For those who plan to stay overnight, cozy houses are provided.

Nattha Waree Hot Springs

The sanatorium of the same name is located 200 meters further along the highway.

Many vacationers prefer to swim in the river under the hot jets themselves, in this place the water temperature is constantly changing from warm to cool.

After hydromassage procedures, you can have a picnic (there are benches and tables on the territory) or order a healing massage.

The emerald lake is striking in its beauty: its crystal clear waters shimmer with all shades of turquoise. This natural reservoir is fed from several streams with thermal water that flow from the jungle. You can swim here if the water does not seem too hot (about 50°C). By the way, at the bottom of the lake there are also several thermal springs, which heat up water and provide effect of a hydromassage.

Looking at photos of Blue Lake on the Internet, it's hard to believe that this is not photoshop. In this unique reservoir live special luminous bacteria, which give the water an unreal azure hue.

Here you can see interesting natural phenomenon: the water of this lake contains a large number of sulfur, and if you pat or otherwise make noise on the shore, bubbles will begin to rise from the bottom. Swimming is not allowed here, the guard monitors the observance of this rule.

Salty Hot Springs Khlong Thom and Saline Hot Springs Khlongthom

These two sources are also located near the town of Khlong Thom - you need to pass the traffic light and then follow the signs.

Local thermal waters are considered the most healing: they contain the most useful minerals. It is here that people most often come to treat and prevent various diseases of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system.

Some experts also claim that regular visits to local pools help maintain healthy and beautiful skin.

About a dozen pools with water of various temperatures (from 38°C to 55°C) were equipped on the territory of the complex. There are also changing rooms, showers and toilets. If desired, you can use the services of a massage therapist.

  1. Before entering the pool or lake, it is better to check the temperature of the water. In some places the water is very hot.
  2. Be sure to follow the recommendations regarding the time spent in the water. Too long baths can lead to serious health problems (even in perfectly healthy people).
  3. If you plan to swim in several pools with different water temperatures, it is best to start with the coolest one. After each bath, it is recommended to take a short break. You can continue the procedure only if you feel good.
  4. It is better to plan a trip to the springs on a weekday. healing waters are popular not only with tourists, but also with locals. Thais often come here to relax on holidays and weekends. During the holidays, the springs are also crowded: schools regularly organize excursions to these places.
  5. You should not go to the springs in the morning. Majority travel agencies plans excursions for this time. So, if you want to avoid unnecessary hustle and bustle, come at dawn or late afternoon. In addition, during cooler hours (mornings and late evenings), hot baths are more easily tolerated by the body.
  6. stock up on food and drinking water better in advance. Prices are likely to be higher locally. And near some sources there are no outlets at all.
  7. In order not to catch a cold after swimming, you need to grab a change of clothes and towels. In some complexes, towels are included in the price of entrance tickets, but not in all.
  8. It is undesirable for girls to swim in too revealing outfits. Conservative locals (especially Muslims) are unlikely to appreciate a trendy bikini. If you don’t want to catch judgmental looks on yourself, put on a pareo.
  9. For long trips it is better to choose a car. A couple of tens of kilometers can be driven on a bike. But if you are planning to visit more distant sources, it is better to rent a car. It will be easier to carry long trip in heat and sunshine.
  10. You should not plan a lot of things after visiting the sources. As you know, warm baths relax, which means that after bathing you will most likely be very sleepy.

Hot springs of Krabi on the map

On this map, I have marked all the hot springs described above in the province of Krabi.

The waterfall that will be discussed, has several names and is mentioned differently everywhere. This is especially true of road signs, maps and travel brochures. But it remains the same place. Therefore, in order to avoid confusion, we list all the names we know and have encountered. More often than others road signs and tourist maps of the province of Krabi, it is referred to as simply HotStream, another name Ronwaterfall and rarely seen HotSpringswaterfall. This waterfall is located a little less than 60 kilometers from the capital of the province, the city of Krabi Town, and not far (about 10 kilometers) from the city of Khlong Thom.

It is the most popular hot spring in Krabi province in Thailand. It is here that all agencies in the area carry tourists. The entrance to the territory of the ennobled forest area with asphalt paths leading to the waterfall is paid, the ticket costs 90 baht and 5 baht for parking a motorbike, 20 baht for parking a car.

The hot waterfall is a stream with thermal water about 5-7 meters wide, forming a series of cascades with natural karst "baths". The water temperature is comfortable for many and is approximately 40 - 45 degrees Celsius. The water in the spring is rich in minerals, but at the same time it is fresh and has a characteristic greenish tint. From the point of view of healing properties, the waterfall, alas, is practically useless. Unless, in some "baths", you can experience a rather strong natural hydromassage, a natural spa, so to speak.

In order to improve health, Thais and knowledgeable people ride on, located near this place.

The waterfall flows into a wider river with normal water temperature. If desired, you can take contrast baths.

Periodically, whole buses with tourists are brought here, and the time of the day does not really matter. “Full houses” are observed on weekends and holidays, as Thais are also added to the total mass. But nothing can be done about it, everyone wants to join the beautiful creation of nature.

If you come here on a weekday in your own transport, then still, there is a great chance to be alone, well, or almost alone, with a waterfall. Organized tourist groups do not linger for a long time, usually no more than 20 minutes, then it empties sharply and for 20-30 minutes it is quiet and calm.

For information: one day tour in the agencies of Krabi town and Ao Nang with a visit to this waterfall and a little further along the road " crystal lake"(Krystal Pond) and" Emerald Lake "(Emerald Pond) costs from 1000 baht per person.

Get yourself to the Ron Waterfall from Krabi Town

The route to the hot waterfall Ron Waterfall, say, from Phuket or AO Nang will differ only in the first line, which sounds like this: “on highway number 4 you reach Krabi town.”

From Krabi town, exit onto the same highway number 4 and move along it past Krabi Airport towards the city of Khlong Thom (the map is interactive above: zoom out to the desired scale and turn on the “satellite” mode for easy reading). The total distance from Krabi town to the hot waterfall is about 60 km (about 50 km on the highway and 10 km on asphalt country roads). Such signs will give you confidence in the right course.

Or information roadside signs on a blue background.

After entering Khlon Thom, do not turn anywhere, continue along the highway until the intersection with a traffic light. At the traffic lights, turn left, after 200 meters to the right and then follow the signs for about 10 km.

Country roads have a good asphalt surface and one lane in each direction. You can use the navigator, the coordinates of the point are indicated above the map at the beginning of the article.

If you plan to ride a motorbike early in the morning or return late in the evening, be sure to bring sweaters or windbreakers with you. With the sunset already at a speed of 50-60 km / h. when driving for more than half an hour, you start to freeze, which can cause colds, as well as reduce the attention of the driver and increase the risk of accidents.

5 kilometers further from the waterfall there is a forest park with significant natural attractions not only in the province, but also in Thailand as a whole - Crystal and Emerald Lake. It makes a lot of sense to plan your trip so that you visit these two places on the same day.
