How to use the hotel safe. Use of the safe in the rooms of the Ambassador City Jomtien Hotel. Why do you want to open the safe

Many of us want to spend our holidays abroad, among palm branches and in beautiful cozy hotels on the shores of the Cote d'Azur. When we leave, we will certainly take valuable things with us. How to ensure their safety in an unfamiliar and foreign country?

Each hotel has a safe. Often they are installed in the lobby, in the rooms themselves or in the administrative wing or building. The use of a safe is usually a paid service, and therefore, upon check-in, you must specify the cost and make calculations if you are going to use the services for the safety of things. How to use the hotel safe? It all depends on the type of castle.

There are three types of safes in hotels. They are classified according to the type of locks.

One hotel may have several property security systems. It all depends on the administration of the hotel where you are staying.

In addition, in many hotel complexes, the administration independently sets prices for the use of safes. Often this service is included in the price of the room. Most often, a free safe is a protective device located in the reception or reception of the institution. It is a separate room in which the safe itself is located directly. You will get access to this room after presenting a receipt for payment for the service or a key to the safe. If you wish to keep a large amount of money for safekeeping, it will be put in an envelope (if it fits) on which you will have to put your signature.

Paid services also include:

  • Mini bar. Every room in a decent hotel has a small fridge-bar. It already has drinks, but they are not free. When you check out of the hotel, you will be charged for everything you drink.
  • Ironing. You can ask for an iron, but you can pay extra and have everything ironed and then brought to your room.
  • Laundry. It is not forbidden to wash your own things on your own, but if you are lazy, then if you please, pay for special hotel workers to make your clothes clean.
  • Food delivery to the room. Basically, on an all-inclusive package, meals are Buffet. For meals, you need to go down to the dining room. If you want to have breakfast in your room, then you will have to pay extra for this service.

In any case, when you go on vacation, it is better to leave all very valuable things and jewelry at home so as not to spoil your vacation with worries and fears. If you are afraid to leave them at home, then you can entrust your treasures to the nearest bank branch.

IN modern world no one carries large bundles of banknotes with them. Plastic cards or electronic money perfectly cope with their task. Therefore, it is better to take one small card than to worry about the safety of stacks of banknotes in the room.

Not in all buildings hotel complex There is safe in the room. If a tourist lives in one of those rooms where a safe is not provided, he always has the opportunity to use a free cell in safe at reception, and not necessarily your own building: if there are not enough free cells, you can use the safe storage of any other building of the complex.

It is best, of course, to store all the valuables that the tourist brought with him (optional: what should not be taken to Thailand), in an inaccessible place. Such a place is a safe, which is present in every hotel room. For example, passports, bank cards and cash money The best place is in the safe. Keeping valuables in a room safe is safe enough, but for greater certainty, you can store basic documents and large sums of money in safes located at the reception desk, access to which is under the constant control of hotel staff.

Models and sizes of safes may vary slightly for different hotels or even for different numbers in the same building. Usually instruction according to the application is located next to the safe, most often even in Russian. Let's get acquainted with the principles of working with the most common model of the safe in the building rooms.

How to open/close a hotel safe and set your lock code

When a new tenant moves into a hotel room, the safe is open, but the set code remains from the previous tourist. Therefore, we will draw up a small action plan to familiarize ourselves with the basic principles of the safe lock system (everything is quite simple, but unusual for the first time, because "not mastered":

  1. The first step is to reset it and install your own cipher code. For this it is necessary on the safe door on the inside closer to the wall on which this door is fixed, feel for the red code reset button (see photo). Groped - pressed - heard a beep-confirmation of the action.
  2. Immediately after you have pressed this red password reset button, enter your pre-designed digital code, which should consist of numbers (from 3 to 8), as soon as you enter the code, press the "A" button to confirm, you will hear a double sound confirmation signal. Immediately after this, the locking handle will be released for a few seconds.
  3. The lock handle will now release for a few seconds each time you enter your code and press the confirm button. Turning with the door closed clockwise- opens the safe, turning counterclockwise (you need to close the door tightly beforehand) - closes the safe.
  4. When you need to close the safe: close the door, enter your code, press the "A" button, turn the handle 90 degrees counterclockwise.
  5. When you need to open the safe: enter your code, press the "A" button, turn the handle 90 degrees clockwise.

Advice 1: at the first test opening-closing of the safe - don't put anything in there! When you open and close normally several times (practice) - you can start using safe for its intended purpose. They closed the safe and can’t open it with any attempts - go to the reception, explain the situation - they will help you.

Tip 2: do not use repeated digits as a code (such as "55555555"), do not use your date of birth and the minimum password length (with a minimum of 3 digits allowed), it is better to choose from 6 to 8 digits.

Unfortunately, the problem with theft on popular resorts tourists are worried all the time. Even despite the fact that it is customary to travel light on vacation, you have to take some valuables with you. The presence of safes in hotels where you can put your good does not solve the problem much. As practice shows, robbers have already got the hang of opening most locks, regardless of the presence of electronic encoding. In this case, the protection of the safe has to be strengthened by "handicraft" methods, which will be discussed.

Manufacturers of hotel safes have long developed a standard that includes the ability to unlock the safe unexpectedly. To do this, a special master entrance is designed into the lock, which allows you to open the safe through an electronic key or a digital code. Given the fact that up to half a hundred people can use one safe in a year, and not everyone will have a brilliant memory, the idea is generally not bad, and hotel staff sometimes have to unlock the safe for their forgetful customers. Modern savings machines must provide at least two emergency access routes - electronic and mechanical.

Independent attempts to remake the safe at your own discretion for an ordinary tourist can cause dissatisfaction with the staff, which sometimes has a basis. There are cases when vacationers simply shoved plasticine or chewing gum into the emergency key slot. Damage to property and an indicative distrust of the staff are clearly not conducive to good relations.

In general, you can apply two options for "external" protection, which, however, will not scare lovers of someone else's very much:
Seal the door gap of the safe. To do this, you only need a little plasticine and a signet. The calculation is that the thief will be embarrassed when he sees incomprehensible tricks and will follow to the "standard" safes;

Glue a strip of paper there with your initials and the date.
However, in the event of a robbery, there will be no one to make a claim with the words that there was a plasticine seal or a piece of paper with initials. Therefore, it is worth considering two real means that can enhance the protection of the safe.

Mechanical blocking means.

The essence of the method is extremely simple - to install an additional blocker without damaging the structure. As an example, an ordinary bicycle cable will do. True, in the case of working with a safe, care must be taken to comply with the following nuances:
you need to know the parameters of the safe in advance, so as not to miss the length of the cable;
the safe must be attached to the wall, otherwise it will not be possible to secure the cable with high quality;
when winding, prevent gaps, otherwise the lock will look like a stupid accessory.
if you wish, you can purchase a cable with an audible alarm, which works even when you touch the blocker, but this is already possible.

Electronics recoding

If you didn’t manage to get hold of the cable, then it is advisable to try changing the codes of our safe. The procedure is as follows:
We determine the service emergency code that allows you to open the safe. Most manufacturers have it standard, so you should try to enter known combinations: 000000, 123456, 159, 888888 or others;
If the code is entered correctly, the countdown timer starts. At the end of the time, the inscription “OPEN” appears, the safe is opened;
Now you need to enter your own encoding: again enter the previously declassified combination, without waiting for the countdown timer to end, press LOCK, enter your combination. After that, we receive confirmation of the success of the operation;
We do a scheduled inspection.
This procedure may vary slightly, depending on the specification of the lock.

However, even such a precautionary measure may not save the safe. After all, there will always be at least one way to open the safe: using the master key that the staff has.
When leaving the hotel, the main thing is to return all the codes to their place, because the service emergency opening safes still thinks that all previously set codes are functioning properly. In addition, the next stream of tourists may apply the same precautions and be very surprised when they fail to pick up a service emergency code.

If you often have to visit hotels, you should take care of the safety of your documents and finances. To this end, in hotel rooms often install safes. But you still need to learn how to deal with it. Consider how to use a hotel safe so that your valuables are always safe.

Types of safes

Hotels with three stars or more complete their room stock with safes so that their guests can leave their valuables in the room and not worry about their safety. Safes can be of various types and with different types castles, namely:

Since the latter option can be found more often than others in hotel rooms, let's deal with their principle of operation, or rather, programming.

How to use a hotel safe - instructions

Principle of operation hotel safes quite simple, which means that you are unlikely to have problems using them. So that you do not have any difficulties, consider how to use this miracle box in a hotel.

REFERENCE. In every room that is equipped with a safe, there should be some kind of instruction so that it would be easier for the guest to deal with this box in the wall. It is worth noting that depending on the model of the lock used, some features of operation may vary, but the principle is still the same.

The usage algorithm is as follows:

  • Replace the installed code with a new one that you will personally use. Some models support an automatic code reset button, some do not.

If you come across a model that does not have such a button, the custom code can be installed fairly quickly. You will need to dial this combination [*] [renew new PIN2] . When the code is set, you need to check its operation as follows [*] [new PIN2]

If your room has a safe with a reset button, you just need to press it and the code will be reset to zero. To activate a new password, dial the following combination: enter [new PIN2] press . You need to check its operation as follows [new PIN2] . You should carry out all the described manipulations when the door is not closed. As you can see. This step is very simple. Having typed the combination several times, you will definitely not have any difficulties at this stage.

  • When you have replaced the old code with a new one and checked the functioning of the set password, you can close the safe. Next, turn the lock handle counterclockwise until it stops.
  • In order to open the safe door, you will need to enter the code you thought up, everything is quite simple. If you did everything right, you will hear a signal notifying you of this, and a green light will also indicate the correctness of your actions.

IMPORTANT. If you hear a beep and see the flashing of not a green, but a red light five times in a row, this may indicate that the batteries are exhausted, they need to be replaced.

The issue of storing money, documents and other valuables while traveling has always been relevant and will probably remain the same for many more years. After all, staying in a foreign country with no money at all is one of the worst scenarios for the development of events on vacation, worse than which is only a situation when a person will never need money and valuables at all. This article describes the main ways to keep money abroad, which I personally use successfully and which I have not used yet, but which also deserve attention.

Basic rules for keeping money abroad

Going abroad on vacation or on a business trip, you should always remember two simple rules. The first of these is not to keep all the money “in one basket”. After all, it does not matter what currency and in what proportions you took with you, whether there are traveler's checks and several types of bank cards: in case of loss, you will lose everything at once. And here it is important to understand that loss means not only theft from a hotel room, the successful work of a pickpocket, a street robbery, but also a banal loss as a result of one’s own indiscretion caused by fatigue, inattention or intoxication.

The second rule of keeping money on vacation is to use several sources that allow you to quickly “get your hands on” cash or make payments for necessary services online. After all, as already mentioned above, cash can be lost or become a victim of theft or robbery, and bank cards sometimes they may not work in the country where you are a guest or simply be blocked by the bank itself for reasons of excessive security, as is often the case when using bank cards in Thailand and some other countries with a high level of fraud in this area.

Thus, we can draw a simple conclusion: in order not to be left without money abroad, you need to initially foresee the presence of several of their sources, while dividing them into several parts and storing them separately. I already wrote about the rules for handling bank cards abroad in an article. The tips outlined there are relevant not only for Thailand, but also for most other countries in the world. And about the places that can be used to store money in a hotel room and with you - in the following sections of this article.

Travel money storage: hotel room

The number of tricks described below that can be used to safely store money in a hotel does not guarantee 100% safety of your funds, but a skillful combination of the proposed methods repeatedly minimizes the risk of being left without money at all and with a high degree of probability will allow you to avoid troubles in this area.

The first thing that comes to mind when you need to securely hide money in a hotel room is the use of a safe, which today can be found in most hotels in the world. However, do not rush to put all your valuables and money into this small metal box, which in reality can often be opened in less than one second, and this can be done not by some “bear-catcher” with many years of experience, but by any person familiar with the vulnerability hotel safes.

This refers to a safe with an electronic combination lock and a magnetic salinoid, which are the cheapest options for compact safes on the market and are often used in both budget and solid five-star hotels. In practice, the risk of being completely left without money is small: usually only a few large bills are stolen from a wallet or wad of money, so that the owner comes to the conclusion that he made a mistake in the calculation or spent this money and forgot about it.

Therefore, it is recommended to keep only your passport, airline tickets, bank cards and other things that are of no value to strangers due to the fact that only the real owner can use them. That is why you should never keep money and documents together, for example, in one envelope or package: there is a risk that in a hurry an attacker will take everything at once, and then simply throw away your passport and bank cards due to uselessness, significantly complicating your life in a foreign country.

By the way, I myself have repeatedly used a hotel safe in various countries(since I didn’t suspect even then about their unreliability) and nothing was ever stolen from me. But on this moment I'm not going to risk and leave all the cash there. Where to hide money in a hotel room? There are a lot of options in reality, while you can practice this business right at home. In any case, I recommend taking on vacation a small tape and a screwdriver, with which you can create a lot of hiding places for yourself in a hotel room.

Using a screwdriver, you can unscrew the screws or screws and hide some of the money in the foot of a table lamp, under the cover of a switch or socket (just be careful, there may still be high voltage), inside the TV, etc. Personally, I prefer the duct tape option - much faster and no less safe. Just wrap a few large bills in thin paper or fold it into an envelope and stick it from below to the TV (if it is not an LCD on the wall, but an old one and is on the table), to the refrigerator and other items that are heavy enough for the maid to be too lazy to lift this is to brush off the dust.

I also like the option where the money can be carefully glued to the outside of the back wall of a drawer of a table or bedside table, to a tabletop, etc. The most important thing is that the adhesive tape fastening is reliable, and the place is chosen well. For example, you should not attach an envelope with money to the bottom of the closet in the event that a maid's mop can crawl under it and accidentally peel off your "cache" and pick up the contents. You will never prove later that it was your money, and not left a long time ago and a tourist who forgot about their existence.

There are a number of personal items in which you can also hide some money, and it is better to take care of preparing such things in advance while at home. First of all, we are talking about inexpensive everyday things, inside which you can build a cache. At one time, I used a half-used solid deodorant (Old Spice or Mennen) for such purposes - just twist the contents to the very end and place banknotes twisted several times along the spiral screw and collect everything back. After that, enchjqcndjv can continue to be used for its intended purpose.

You can also use tubes of toothpaste specially prepared at home, hollow handles in combs and other things that, without knowledge of their secret contents, are of no value to the hotel staff. You can even gently unroll the roll toilet paper and, folding it back, lay several bills between the layers. By the way, it is best to hide large bills, as well as to take them on a trip in general. First, they take less space, i.e. it is easier to hide them than a pack of small things, and secondly, in many countries large bills are exchanged for more favorable exchange rate(I already wrote about this in the article).

It was once considered a very successful way to store money in an airtight container in the toilet bowl. However, today the method has exhausted itself and only the lazy does not know about its existence, so the risk of being left without money is very high. Also forget about keeping money in bed under a mattress or pillow. Working as a maid in any country in the world is not highly paid, so it will be difficult for her to resist the temptation to pick up a few bills as a “tip” when your wallet or envelope with money falls out of bed during a change of clothes. That is why it is also not recommended to stick money with adhesive tape in the area of \u200b\u200bthe bed.

There is also information that such a way of storing money on a trip as personal dirty laundry is outdated. There is nothing sacred for thieves. The situation is similar with sanitary pads and clean socks. Of course, just storing it in a backpack is also not very safe. Lost relevance and caches behind the ventilation grille. What can I say, when almost everyone has a smartphone with Internet access and all the methods described above can be read by all attackers interested in finding the hiding places of tourists, using an electronic online translator for this.

Therefore, the safest way to store money in a hotel is the one that you come up with yourself and do not share it with anyone. I also remind you that you can significantly protect your vacation from unpleasant incidents by paying in advance large expenses on vacation, such as round-trip air tickets and paying for a hotel. Then you will only need to worry about money for food, recreational entertainment and shopping.

By the way, usually early provides an opportunity to save money, which you can see for yourself using the above search form for hotels at the best prices and comparing the cost of one room in various booking systems. And the early purchase of air tickets online should become a good tradition for every self-respecting independent traveler.

Rules for keeping money in a safe at the hotel reception

A very common way to store money while traveling is to use a safe not in a hotel room, but in a special box at the reception. At the same time, the issue of the safety of your savings is supposedly guaranteed by the fact that to open such a cell, two keys are required at once: the key issued to you and the key that is at the disposal of the hotel employee on duty at the reception. Theoretically, the option is very good, but there is one small nuance. You will never be told that the hotel is in without fail there is a duplicate key that is issued to the client.

In practice, this means that in your absence, nothing will prevent an unclean hotel worker from opening your cell and examining its contents, “accidentally” taking part of it with him. In some hotels, additional safety is guaranteed by a video surveillance camera installed in the safe area at the reception, but this will not always help. For example, recently in one of hotels in Pattaya (Thailand) a serial thief was detained who worked in his hotel and not only emptied customer cells using duplicate keys, but also deleted CCTV footage to cover up the crime.

The most optimal option for using a safe at the hotel reception is to take a receipt from the employee, which lists all the money and valuables left in the safe (up to banknote numbers). Not all hotels will agree to provide such a receipt, but those who value their reputation will make concessions to you. Also a good option is hotel safes, which make it possible to use a padlock. The best option in this case, leave the hotel lock in the safe, and close it with your own and securely keep all the keys with you.

Other ways to save money on holiday abroad

Having a large amount of money, you can use the service of renting a safe in a bank. The service, of course, is paid, but the guarantee of safety is much higher. True, there is one caveat: in many countries of the world, only persons who have a work permit in the country or a long-term visa are allowed to use bank cells. A very original alternative solution to circumvent such restrictions was recently invented in Pattaya. The local hotel Siam Secure offers everyone (not only its guests) to use a reliable safe with a high degree of protection, round-the-clock security and a modern video surveillance system.

Registration of the service does not take much time and does not require filling out a lot of documents. The cost of the service is also very democratic and amounts to 375 baht per month (less than $12). It is even more profitable to rent a safe (there are three sizes of cells) for a year, paying only 600 baht (less than $19) for it. At the same time, you can use your cell from 10 am to 10 pm without weekends and holidays, i.e. conditions are better than in a classic bank. The Siam Secure Hotel is located in the central area, near the intersection of Central Pattaya (Pattaya Klang) Street and Sukhumvit Highway and the FoodLand supermarket.

I hope after reading this article it will be easier for you hide money in a hotel and protect yourself from their loss. Just always remember the places where you hid your money, do it in a sober state and do not forget to take it from your hiding place when you change hotels. I wish you a pleasant and safe holiday!
