Beijing International Airport is the most important transport hub of the capital. According to the IATA classification, its code is designated as "PEK", the "BJS" variant is less common. The terminal is located at a distance of 27 kilometers northwest of the city center and belongs to two of its districts - Shunyi and Chaoyang.

One of the most major airlines serving the facility is considered to be "Air China", operating daily with more than 120 cargo and passenger destinations. Air business giants such as Hainan Airlines and China Southern Airlines follow closely behind. The terminal serves 1,100 different aircraft daily. The schedule is dominated by flights to Vancouver, San Francisco, New York, Paris, London, Frankfurt and Los Angeles. Also, after the Beijing Olympics, flights to Sydney, Washington, Toronto, Chicago and Dubai became more frequent.

From the history of Beijing International Airport

Beijing airport is the oldest in China. It appeared in March 1958, and initially its design was designed for only one terminal with low throughput. The station provided exclusively VIP services and served charters. In January 1980, it was decided to expand the capabilities of the terminal. In this regard, the node was able to produce up to 10-12 aircraft daily. However, this was quickly no longer enough. Therefore, closer to the mid-90s, reconstruction began again at the Beijing International Airport, thanks to which the second terminal was soon opened on the territory of the airport.

Beijing Airport underwent another transformation in late 1999 and mid-2004. The third colossal expansion occurred during the preparation of the Chinese capital for the 2008 Olympic Games. On the basis of the airport, the third runway, plus a new one was launched railway line designed to deliver customers from the city center to the airport. Due to global changes, the capacity of the modern and most modernized Beijing Airport has increased to 82,000,000 passengers in one day.

First terminal

The first terminal of Beijing International Airport was opened on March 2, 1958. Unfortunately or fortunately, at the moment there is nothing left of it. In its place, there is a new and modern terminal, opened in January 1980 on the site of the previous one. The area of the checkpoint is 60,000 square meters. meters and includes 16 gates serving to receive air vehicles. It is also the base for Xiamen Airlines, Chongqing Airlines and China Southern Airlines. From the first terminal, you can go to virtually any part of the world except Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

Second terminal

The second terminal was opened at Beijing Airport in 1999 during the closure of the first terminal for renovation. The event was timed to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The second terminal has twenty operating gates for receiving aircraft.

Until 2007, when the third terminal was opened, the second checkpoint was the leading one for sending and receiving aircraft. The first and second terminals are connected by a convenient passage, the tracks in which move automatically in both directions. Also, if necessary, you can use the free, regularly running bus between the terminals. There are several eateries and cafes in Terminal 2, among which there are branches of the world famous fast food chains KFC and Starbucks coffee shops.

Aircraft of China Southern Airlines, Skyteam, China Eastern Airlines are served in the Second Terminal.

Third terminal

Construction of Terminal 3 at Beijing International Airport began in March 2004. The opening of the largest checkpoint took place in several stages from February to March 2008. The design of this part of the terminal was developed by an association of independent companies Netherlands Airport Consultants B.V., Partners and ARUP, by UK Architect Foster. The budget for bringing this grandiose idea to life amounted to more than 3.5 billion US dollars. The extension area is 986,000 sq. meters.

It is possible to conditionally divide the Third Terminal of Beijing International Airport into several important departments. Firstly, this is the main terminal for passengers 3C (focused only on local airlines) and two auxiliary ones - 3D (international destinations) and 3E (Olympic Hall, previously served for charters during the Olympics, today serves all flights). Important nuance: check-in of passengers departing from the Olympic terminal is carried out at 3C.

The third terminal is not only larger than the others, but also qualitatively more modern and convenient. One of its main features is the system of delivery and storage of client luggage. The cost of the system is neither more nor less than $240,000,000. The equipment includes 200 video cameras that capture every moment of cargo movement on the territory inside and outside the airport, in the halls, on the street and on the plane. The speed of moving bags from the aircraft to the issuing conveyor is less than five minutes (270 seconds).

In the Third Terminal, for the convenience of passengers, 243 elevators, escalators, moving walkways and other devices for comfortable movement operate daily. There are rest rooms, departments for mothers with children and the disabled. Near all rows of seats in the waiting rooms, there are special racks where you can recharge a sat down mobile phone, laptop, player or other electronic device.

In a specially separated zone called "World Cuisine", 72 catering points offer their services, where you can try almost everything: from traditional Chinese and European dishes to ice cream and pastries prepared according to recipes from around the world. Trade area terminal is 12,600 sq. meters, free trade zone (duty-free) - 10,600 sq. meters, business zone (bank branches, business centers, Internet rooms, points where you can exchange currency, SIM card sales points, etc.) - 7,000 sq. meters.

How to get to Beijing International Airport?

The first, but far from the only way to get from Beijing to the airport is a special metro line. In order to get to it, you should choose the second or third metro line and in right place make a transplant. The subway fare is 25 yuan. The train pulls up first to the Third, then to the Second terminal. Then he comes back around in a circle. The advantages of the train is that you can bypass all traffic jams and get to the airport as quickly as possible.

If you want to get to Beijing International Airport, you can take a taxi. Approximate cost of the trip (depending on distance to destination arrival) can range from 80 to 180 yuan.

Third, most inexpensive option- special buses running in both directions. Six routes include all areas of the city, and you can buy a ticket (cost - 16 yuan) at any of the stops. You can get by bus to the First Terminal (bus station near exit No. 7) and the Second Terminal (Bus station near exits No. 9 and No. 11). The dispatch of buses begins only after the fullness of the vehicle. On average, the journey from stops to the airport is about an hour.

My acquaintance with Beijing began with the main air hub of China - Beijing Capital Airport, popularly referred to as the Shoudou.

Going to Beijing, you can look no further comfortable spot for landing - the only airport that accepts international flights. An additional hub is planned to be put into operation in the next year and a half.

The size of the Shoudu location can be seen from the window of the plane - it is huge! No wonder it takes 2nd place in the world in terms of customer turnover.

The decoration cannot be compared with the local bus and railway stations. The interior is much simpler here. On the other hand, there are a lot of conveyor paths that you can stand on, and it will take you to the desired point. The Internet is freely available almost throughout the airport.

If you are passing through Beijing, then keep in mind the following points that made me uncomfortable:

  • The seats are uncomfortable for long waits (you should have something soft ready, such as a stole).
  • After registration, it is forbidden to leave the terminal - all movements are strictly controlled by security.
  • It will not be easy for those who smoke, because absolutely all smoking areas are closed on the basis of a law prohibiting the use and storage of lighters, matches, etc. on the territory of the airport. Keep in mind that security is always on the alert.

The terminal has a standard structure of moves. All signs are in Chinese and English. Lots of nice things:

  • Helpful staff with excellent knowledge of English.
  • So clean that even the garbage cans are always empty.
  • You can have a bite without fear in any of several cafes. Delicious, cheap and fast.
  • Inexpensive drinks in vending machines are sold around the clock.

Make good dreams come true. Have a nice flight and soft landing!
