Chaweng Beach (Koh Samui): description, how to get there, what to do, restaurants, hotels in Chaweng. What to see on Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui. Prices for Chaweng

Northern part Chaweng is more suitable for family vacation with a child, since the entrance is gentle and the sea is shallow at first - perfect place for children's games in the water. Central and South part deeper, it is here that all the "movement" is concentrated - jet skis, "bananas", kayak boats.

The coast is wide - there is a place where to turn around and sunbathe. Although there are a lot of people, but not as much as on the beaches or. There are sun loungers and parasols belonging to hotels located on the beach.

After sunset, Chaweng Beach is quiet and quiet place there are almost no people. Slow music flows from coastal restaurants and bars. Some put sunbeds and tables right on the sand, so you can dine to the sound of the surf and the refreshing breeze (however, in some seasons of the year, mosquitoes become a little annoying and constantly squeak something above your ear).

Immediately behind the hotels located on the 1st line of Chaweng, there is a road on which there are restaurants, bars and shops. If you delve a little further, you will see big lake. Nobody swims in it, and there is nowhere to sunbathe there (the coast is not sandy), but you can sit in the evenings and admire the water surface. There is a boxing stadium near the lake and Night market where you can eat well, buy souvenirs and clothes.

You can often read on the Internet that Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui is suitable only for lovers of parties, nightlife and noisy discos. This is not entirely true. If your hotel is located in the bar area, then indeed, music can be heard at midnight. But if you move a little away from the party area, then it will be quieter and calmer there, and nothing will prevent you and your children from sleeping peacefully at night. In general, you need to understand that Chaweng is not in Pattaya and not in Phuket, there are fewer of them: bars, music, and “adult” entertainment.

Slightly north of Chaweng, on main road there are the largest on the island - Tesco Lotus, Big C and Macro. You can buy almost everything there and very cheap. Well, if you don’t want to go to them, then a couple of minutes from the sea in 2014 they built a huge shopping mall.

There are also several hospitals in the vicinity of the beach. The main ones are located on the Main Road, close to Big C and Tesco Lotus.

How to get to Chaweng

From Nathon Pier

Most ferries arrive at, which is the main one on Koh Samui. You can get from there to Chaweng by songteo or taxi.

1.Songteo.

This option is only suitable for those who travel without suitcases and provided that the hotel is located next to the road on which the transport goes. Songteos stand right on the pier, some say Nathon - Chaweng (go through the north of the island), others Chaweng - Lamai (go through the south). You, of course, need the first one. The fare costs 60 baht per person, although some drivers try to rip off 100 baht from tourists. Tell him it'll cost 60.

It takes about half an hour to drive to Chaweng, but it should be borne in mind that he will leave only when he has enough full salon. Songteo does not deliver to hotels, it just stops on the highway near the beach. From there you will have to get to the hotel yourself and this can take a long time, given that the beach is very large. Thus, if you are on Koh Samui for the first time, and besides, with suitcases and children, it is better to use a taxi.

2. Taxi.

Recently, air-conditioned cars go to Koh Samui, the same as in Bangkok. True, the drivers do not turn on the meters, so the price is negotiable. To Chaweng they ask from 1000 baht. But this cost is for the whole car, and not per person, that is, if there are four of you, then 250 baht each. Agree, this is inexpensive, considering that this transport is much more comfortable than songteo. Cars are air-conditioned and take only 20 minutes to get to the hotel. You do not have to wait until there are other passengers. In general, some pluses.

From Raja Ferry Pier (Lipa Noi)

This cargo pier is mainly used for transporting vehicles from the mainland. Don't come here best idea For budget travelers. Public songthaews that are available in Nathon do not go here.

You can only leave by taxi. They are presented here in the form of tuk-tuks and air-conditioned cars. Some drivers offer to save money by teaming up with other fellow travelers. It takes about half an hour to drive, since this pier is located further than Nathon.

From airport

You can get to Chaweng from a minivan or taxi. It is also possible to rent a car.

1. Minivans.

These are minibuses that go on filling. Tickets can be purchased upon arrival. The fare to Chaweng is 130 baht, to Lamai is 170 baht.

2. Taxi.

At the airport, taxis come in the form of tuk-tuks and air-conditioned cars (2 times more expensive). Depending on the location of your hotel, you can get there in 10-15 minutes.

But there is another better option - this. They will meet you with a sign, help you carry your suitcases and will already know the exact location of the hotel. In half an hour you will be splashing in the sea. By the way, you can choose a car of a prestigious class or for a large company. If you are traveling with children, do not forget to indicate the need for child seats.

Chaweng beach, or as it is also called Big Chaweng or Central, is located on the east coast Koh Samui, closer to its northern part. This is the most famous and popular beach islands from white sand coral origin, similar to soft powder, which is very pleasant to walk on. Both on land and in water.

In the northern part of Central Chaweng, just like in, there is coral reef, which was the reason for the rise in the level of the bottom in this area. Therefore, here the beach is shallow and unsuitable for swimming, and at low tide it also does not look quite presentable. However, in these places it can be good for those who do not like to swim at all, still swim badly or relax with children. In addition to the shallow bottom, these places have another plus - there are not so many tourists and beach vendors. It seems that the latter simply do not have the strength to get here, so they continue to comb the more populous central part of Greater Chaweng for the twentieth time a day, but they do not reach here.

The central and southern parts are not so shallow, and are already more suitable for swimming. However, at low tides and here you will have to walk many meters before the depth becomes comfortable.

The water here is clear and clean. The bottom is without stones, and although from time to time in some places it is a little muddy, in general, the sand here is very pleasant to the touch.
The shore is full of sunbeds, but they are intended for hotel guests. And you still need to run around to find those Chaweng hotels where they will be allowed to use them for someone else. Even for money or buying something at a bar. However, no one bothers you to lay a towel on the sand, sitting under a sprawling palm tree somewhere a meter away from the sunbeds of the most expensive, snobish manners, Chaweng hotel.
The waters of Chaweng are usually calm. However, in the period from November to January, there are almost constantly blowing east winds, due to which Chaweng waves can ruin your vacation on . Water hits the shore with significant force, sweeping away everything in its path. From time to time, red flags appear on the beach, signaling the danger of trying to swim.

There is a lot of sea entertainment here - jet skis, kayaks, bananas, catamarans ... all this is available all year round. And in the summer, an international sailing regatta is even held here.

By the way, it is in this place and in this hotel - Centara - that the annual sailing regatta on Koh Samui is based:

The Chaweng beach system consists of an almost continuous strip of chic sandy beach- wide, even, having enough developed infrastructure, which is necessary for tourists - more than six kilometers long and divided into three conditional parts: beaches, Chaweng and.

Each of these parts is good and attractive with something of its own, which cannot be found elsewhere, so the beaches of Chaweng have continued to hold the palm of the island in popularity among tourists for many years.

On Koh Samui, Chaweng is the most party and active place. Life stops here only in the morning, so if you like to admire the sunrise, a pleasant loneliness in this early time will be provided to you. In many cafes, going towards tourists who walked all night, even at lunch they can serve what is usually cooked for breakfast.

The runway of the island's international boutique airport starts at northern border Chaweng beach. Therefore, talking about the silence of this place and its remoteness from the airport is ridiculous. Every hour vacationers see a plane flying over them. True, they often do not hear him, thanks to the noise of the “hangout”. Luckily, they don't fly at night. Therefore, if the hotel or rented house is located at a distance from karaoke, from bars and from the road, you will have the opportunity to sleep in silence.

If in the south the border between Chaweng and Chaweng Noi is drawn quite clearly - by a small rocky steep cape near the Samui First House hotel, then in the north this border is conditional. It passes approximately next to Samui International Hospital. You can read more about all of them in a separate article posted in.

In addition to hospitals, which, as it happened, are almost all in Chaweng, there are a lot of interesting things here.
For example, Buddhist, located along the ring road approximately in the central part of Chaweng. Or great. It is located on a 90-meter hill, which offers picturesque views of Lake Chaweng, runway airport, figure, Koh Phangan and other islands in close proximity to Koh Samui, not to mention how beautiful the sea looks from such a height. And what wonderful sunsets from here! You can get here on your own by turning off the ring road onto the one that goes to the beach near Thai International Hospital, and at about the fifth kilometer of it, opposite Chaweng Lake, turn under the arch with the inscription Kho Hua Jook road. This path will lead you to the bottom of the stairs, where you will have to make the last push on the path to beauty.

On the ring road between Makro - a wholesale cash & carry supermarket - and Tesco Lotus hypermarket there is a good Banana IT computer equipment store, and in close proximity to Makro there is a two-story giant filled with all kinds of household appliances, and in the same place, with him - service center most international brands. Opposite Makro is the JIB computer store. This is an online store that has a website with an assortment and prices. Before visiting the store and buying, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with the prices on their website. Since there were cases when foreigners who came from the street were called prices that were about twice as high. Use the website prices as a guideline. In the store, the real price will be ~ 10-15% higher (this is a normal price).

If you turn immediately after the Bandon hospital, which is near Big C, towards the airport, then after some time a good golf club will appear on the left, and a little further away - the Monkey Theater.

There is also a shooting range where you can practice shooting (Samui Shooting Range, opposite Makro). There is Bungy Jump - this is something like a bungee, located on Chaweng Lake.

There are two stadiums for Thai boxing. Their advertising cars, from the powerful speakers of which they persistently invite you not to miss the next duel, will remind you of this during your vacation more than one hundred times.

There is a large food market, where you will find a wide variety of always fresh fruits (unlike supermarkets, where prices can be even lower). Google coordinate 9.522666,100.05507.

There are many different cafes and restaurants, bars, both with girls who are just waiting for lonely farangs, and just those where you can relax with an alcoholic cocktail to good music. For Europeans nostalgic for familiar food, there are KFC, Burger King, Pizza Hut and McDonald’s. There is even a Starbucks here (near Big C).

There are world-famous bars on the beach, which open from dusk until almost dawn. Wide square sunbeds are placed right on the beach, in their center is a small table, around which you can lie surrounded by comfortable pillows all evening, listening to music. Pleasant relaxing atmosphere, light breeze blowing from the sea, alcoholic and other drinks, delicious food as usual in Thailand and a good DJ are conducive to staying here for many hours. Therefore, it is worth coming here at the opening, when you can still take a free place.

There are several cabaret shows where transvestites dressed in sequins and feathers are waiting for you, there are bowling centers (one of them is in Tesco Lotus), a cinema (ibid.), children's rooms with games, boutiques and shops along the street where they sell everything that a relaxed sea and sun tourists may need.

Chaweng simply cannot leave any of you indifferent. He is either loved without memory, forgiving all sins and imperfections, or, having been here once, in the future they bypass him, squeamishly grimacing from the mere word "Chaweng".

It can be safely advised to lovers of drive, partying, to all those who love the nightlife, who are not embarrassed by crowds of tourists and obsessive beach vendors. Who is not annoyed by the round-the-clock hum of voices and the rumble from transport, crowded roads and an overpriced price tag for everything. Those who easily agree to an endless variety of choices, both entertainment and places where you can have a nice, but quite expensive dinner or lunch.

lovers of quiet and a relaxing holiday we recommend paying attention to the beaches, and the west of the island - beaches and. These areas are still a little "promoted", not well known, but they are just a miracle, how good they are.
The sand, the strip of the beach and the sea itself on all three beaches are about the same as on and on.
On Bang Rak, the similarity is complemented beautiful view to the bay and Koh Phangan island, as well as to the statue of the Big Buddha.
And in the west - even quieter and less crowded than Maenam, plus amazing sunset views and very beautiful nature around.

We spent 3 months there, and only once went to neighboring Koh Samui to the immigration center to extend the visa. We rode around the island for a bit, but we didn't like Koh Samui at all.

Recently, a friend told us about his impressions - he ended up on Koh Samui after Phuket and felt like in a village there.

So here we are, after a calm and relaxed Koh Phangan, we found ourselves, as if in an anthill. There are crowds of tourists everywhere, traffic jams on the roads, everything is somehow very noisy and fussy, but at the same time, it doesn’t seem to be major metropolis, but a small tropical island.

But, as our practice shows, it is impossible to draw any conclusions about a new place without living in it for at least a couple of weeks, so on this visit, we decided to spend some time on Koh Samui, to go around the island around.

We paid the main attention to the beaches in order to form our understanding of the island, its various parts and to understand if we can consider it as a place for some kind of more or less long life. In a nutshell - Koh Samui did not hook. You can spend a couple of weeks here, but we like Koh Phangan much more =)

Chaweng Beach is located on the east coast, but it is considered almost the center of the island - it is one of the most famous, party and active beaches Samui. Here life is in full swing day and night, there are many bars and restaurants, hostels and expensive hotels, as well as massages, souvenirs, pharmacies, hospitals, shops - in general, everything that vacationers may need.

Chaweng is also close to the airport and three large hypermarkets, so in terms of tourism infrastructure, is the most developed place on the island. Many people like it, but if you like a relaxing holiday, then you are clearly not here.

Chaweng Beach is divided into 3 parts - Chaweng Noi, Central Chaweng and Chaweng Yai with a total length of more than 6 km, but basically, when they talk about Chaweng Beach, they mean Central.

It is a long (4 km) and wide (mostly 30-40 m) beach with excellent, white sand, azure sea, and postcard palm trees hanging over sunbeds
It will probably take about an hour to go through it all, we never went through it at a time =) If we lived nearby longer, it would be cool to run along the coast - I ran back and forth, now it’s already 8 km, it’s convenient, on Of course, there are no such long beaches in Koh Phangan.

At high tide, the depth in the sea begins quite quickly, you will have to go further at low tide, but you can still swim, especially in the central part

In general, Chaweng Beach is very picturesque, almost throughout its entire length.

We have been here several times and each time, depending on the weather, it opens from a new side.

At the height of the season central part Chaweng is reminiscent of Sochi, everything is densely packed with sunbeds. It’s probably great for party lovers, but somehow we weren’t very impressed with such pictures.

Resourceful bar owners are not limited to the space of the beach, successfully using the water area

The activity does not stop even after dark - tourists move from sunbeds to bars and restaurants that attract visitors with romantic illumination, the whole beach begins to glow

During the day, moderately annoying merchants walk among the tourists.

I have never seen anyone buy anything from them.

There are typical water activities

For every taste and budget

Well, in low season- the beach is half empty

Random tourists walk and lonely dogs roam

In the northern part of the beach, closer to neighboring Chaweng Yai, shallow water begins

Sandy islands appear at low tide

We reached the neighboring beach along the edge without even getting our feet wet.

In the northern part of the beach, there is somehow no desire to climb into the water - here it is quite shallow even at high tide, large stones stick out of the water

The sand here is coarser and yellower.

In places - with vegetation

And many fishing boats

But there are also advantages - this beach is an order of magnitude fewer tourists, so those who want a more relaxing holiday come here. There are several very low-budget hotels here (for example, Anantara resort or Coral Bay Resort)

And detached villas

The southern part of Chaweng is separated from the central one by a cape, so that you can only get there by taking a detour. The entire beach, 1 km long, is built up with hotels and restaurants, you can get to it freely, but it is mostly the guests of these hotels who rest there, so it is less crowded

We usually entered it through a restaurant in the southern part, but you can go through any hotel, in principle. The beach is also wide, with pleasant, white and fine sand,

and very picturesque

Many Samui hotels, including Chaweng, offer their guests standard water activities.

And some are non-standard. For example, near the Imperial Hotel, such ducks swam on the water for a long time and there was an action - you had to take a picture against their background, post a photo on Facebook and take part in the drawing of a weekend in this hotel

And on the beach there were such a table with chairs

Close to the beach (with south side) there is an observation deck

From which almost the entire northeastern part of Koh Samui is visible

You can admire the surroundings from above or go down

Samui beaches map

Thus, if you are going specifically for a beach holiday on Koh Samui, and at the same time you need good infrastructure, an abundance of bars and restaurants, then staying at a hotel on Chaweng Beach (in any of its parts), you will have it all!

You can see all the hotels on the beaches of Chaweng here.

How do you like Chaweng Beach? If you have already been to Koh Samui, tell us if you like it? If you haven't been yet, would you like to live somewhere nearby?

And we talk about our experience of communicating with insurance companies, including in Thailand, here:

The coolest parties are held on neighboring island Koh Phangan, only 30-45 minutes from Koh Samui.

Chaweng Beach is one of the main beaches on Koh Samui. Here are the main entertainment and night life islands, and the beach itself is one of the most beautiful places not only on Koh Samui, but throughout the region.

Chaweng Beach on the map

general information

Chaweng- the largest of the beaches of Koh Samui, stretching for five kilometers along the east coast of the island. Usually Chaweng Beach is conditionally divided into four parts: northern, central, southern Chaweng and Chaweng Noi (Chaweng Noi) - a small corner at the southern end of the beach.

The central part is considered the most crowded and noisy, while the northern and southern parts are more conducive to calm beach holiday. Attractions in Chaweng are practically absent, but there are various entertainment and activity - it will not be boring.

A strip of coconut palms stretches along Chaweng, in the shade of which you can take a break from the sun. The sand on the beach is fine and amazingly white, and the water is emerald blue. The temperature in the bay, as a rule, is kept at the level of 25-28 degrees.

The bottom is soft and sandy, without algae and stones. Sunbeds can be rented. From time to time you can see planes taking off and landing at Koh Samui airport.

The island offers stunning views of the sea, two islands are visible near the reef, which is easy to reach at low tide. On a wide strip of white sand you can make excellent photos. Thai merchants constantly walk along the beach, where you can buy drinks, fruits or local food.

Along the beach from south to north stretches highway, on the sides of which there are numerous hotels, bars and restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies and clothing stores.

How to get to Chaweng Beach

Chaweng beach located slightly southeast Koh Samui airport(USM). There are several ways to get to the beach from the airport.

If you order a taxi at the information desk at the airport, you will have to pay 400 baht, but if you try to negotiate with taxi drivers on the street, the price can be brought down to 200 baht. Counters on Koh Samui are almost never used, so negotiate the price before the trip.

There are also minivans that usually leave when there are at least 5 passengers; the price of the trip is 120 baht.

The video below shows an information desk where you can order a taxi, as well as a parking lot for minivans.

Many hotels on Chaweng Beach provide shuttle services. Usually it costs about 300 baht, but some hotels charge more - about 400 baht.

In addition, you can negotiate with taxi drivers on bikes. In this case, you simply sit on the bike behind the driver and drive to the hotel. The bike will cost you 30-150 baht, depending on the distance.

If you have not yet reached Koh Samui, refer to the article.

Hotels on Chaweng Beach

Chaweng Beach is the largest and most populated Koh Samui beach. For this reason, here you can find hotels and guesthouses for every taste. Nearly all coastline, the price range is quite large (the cost of living decreases with distance from the sea).

Once again, our opinion differed from the generally accepted among bloggers and Samui winterers. Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui is considered, to put it mildly, not the best beach on the island, the last one where winterers will spend their sunny days. We visited Chaweng and completely refute all these reviews. In our opinion, Chaweng Beach is one of the the best beaches Samui!

“Eww, Chaweng,” people squeal. "Wow! Chaweng!" we say

As is not the first time this has happened, since Phuket I intuitively knew that Chaweng would be a great beach. And I was right, we both liked him at first sight.

Firstly, Chaweng beach is not at all like Phuket! And then Patong, you ask? Imagine that some websites and blogs compare Chaweng with Patong. For many, the word Patong brings up associations with dirt, garbage and muddy water, in which almost rats swim with dead fish (just like in Pattaya). We have nothing against Patong beach, and this winter we went there more than once to swim, so everything is fine there, nothing floats in the water.

So, Chaweng Beach is really no comparison. These 2 beaches are not a bit similar, neither in appearance, nor in terms of the quality of water and swimming. Unless, it is possible to draw analogies only in terms of the development of the region. Because the Chaweng area is as well developed as the Patong area.

Chaweng area

There are many cafes, bars, shops, souvenir shops and much more that a vacationer needs. There are large Tesco, Big C, Makro supermarkets, as well as a small Central Festival.

We will not focus on the area for a long time, let's go to the beach itself.

Chaweng beach

And so, we went to Chaweng. Oh what a beauty! A long beach, a minimum of people, music is playing from cafes and blue water under your feet. Right from the first minute we understand that we like it here!

Chaweng Beach, Samui

What is the sea on Chaweng beach

Chaweng has the bluest water we've seen on Koh Samui. Usually the water in the sea here on all beaches is clean, on some it is transparently crystal, on some, like or Bophut, it is muddy, but such bright blue water has never been seen before.

The sea is clean, clear water, the sunset is smooth, there is a pleasant sand at the bottom, there are no stones, it is not deep near the coast. There are no waves, only small rolls of water beat on the legs. My feet are finally happy with the white sand too… Hooray!!!

Yes, dear readers! On Koh Samui, white and fine sand is only on and on Chaweng

Very healthy beach. And you can walk for a long time, because the shore is flat, the sand is pleasant for your feet, you don’t fall through when walking. Both the sea and the sand are wonderful.

On the beach there are sunbeds, deck chairs and chairs with umbrellas. There are a lot of beach cafes and restaurants where you can eat inexpensively.
