All beaches of Koh Samui on the map

You can find out how the beaches are located and how to get to them by looking at the map of Koh Samui with the beaches right now. By the way, you can find maps in Russian in Thailand without any problems - just contact one of the many companies providing travel services - there are always maps of Koh Samui, and most of them are in Russian and they are all free.

What is special about Koh Samui beaches

Amazing beaches on Koh Samui with white sand, sky-blue sea, picturesque bays, palm trees, unique nature - all this creates an extraordinary composition. That alone makes this place special. In addition, the sunsets here are unforgettable.

Everyone who wants to retire with nature, relax body and soul comes here. But for this you need to go not to famous beaches, but on the wild ones, where nature has retained its original appearance. It is here that people come to make beautiful shots of models from all over the world.

Video about Koh Samui beaches

Below you will see 2 videos with reviews of the beaches of Koh Samui

  • In the first part you will see such beaches as Chaweng, Chaweng Noi, Lamai, Crystal Bay And Coral Cove.
  • In the second part of the video you are the beaches Bophut, Lipa Noi, Maenam, Chong Mon, Bang Rak, Taling Ngam And Bang Po.

I highly recommend that you read an overview of all the beaches of the island before traveling to Koh Samui. Because they are very different, and it is very difficult to give unambiguous recommendations. Someone wants beautiful beach with white sand, and he doesn't care about the crowd of people. For some, the main thing is to swim in the sea, and it doesn’t matter at all what kind of sand it is. And some are annoyed by the crowd, and they love secluded beaches.

In general, there are many beaches, good and different, and you can choose your favorite.

What the beach will look like is highly dependent on the season, the weather and the phase of low or high tide. The same beach will look like a Bounty ad one day, and gray and dirty the next, with high waves. During the rainy season, the water in the sea is muddy, and branches and household garbage are thrown ashore.

Speaking briefly about the beaches of Koh Samui, the most popular of them stretch along the eastern and northern parts of the island. In the south and west, the beaches are rocky and shallow, they are less popular with tourists, it is quite quiet here.

I will start my review from the most popular and famous beach and move clockwise. And after reviewing all the articles, I will make a selection of the best beaches in my opinion, the best beaches recommended for children, as well as a selection of wild beaches.

All beaches of Koh Samui

On the map below, I marked the main beaches of Koh Samui.

Chaweng Beach

The most party and famous beach Samui. The entire coast is densely built up with hotels, cafes, restaurants, shops and shops. To get to the beach, you have to go through all these buildings. Sometimes you even have to circle around to first find a free parking spot, and then still find the entrance to the beach.

Chaweng is located next to Samui Airport, so you can often see low-flying planes here. It is breathtaking and beautiful, especially at sunset. But I would not want to live near the airport, because planes fly quite often.

Chaweng is quite long and heterogeneous in different places, so there are three different parts of the beach.

Chaweng Yai Beach

The north of the beach is called Chaweng Yai Beach. It is not very convenient to swim here, as there are small stones at the bottom. This part of the beach is covered from the waves by a stone embankment in the distance.

Chaweng Beach

The part in the center is the most beautiful, well-groomed and packed with people. The water is calm, blue, transparent, just a classic paradise beach. The sand is fine, very light, almost white.

It is very convenient for swimming, the bottom is clean and pleasant, the depth is gained gradually.

The beach is very crowded, a lot of tourists and Thais and Thais are constantly walking, offering boiled corn, sunglasses and all sorts of rubbish. Of course, this is a place for party lovers who are here at every turn. Music is heard from bars and clubs, people are having fun, drinking, making noise.

Chaweng has a lot of water activities such as jet skis, banana boats and boats. You can rent a sun lounger for 3 USD (100 baht).

The beach, of course, is insanely beautiful, but I've only been there a couple of times, because I don't like to swim in a soup of people.

Chaweng Noi Beach

South Chaweng looks about the same as the central part, only here everything is built up with luxury hotels and is generally more relaxed.

How to get to Chaweng Beach

The map shows that Chaweng is located slightly away from the main ring road of Koh Samui. But the great attraction of Chaweng acts on the tuk-tuk drivers and they turn off the roundabout, driving to the beach and then again leaving the main road. Therefore, you can easily get to Chaweng by tuk-tuk.

For those who ride independently on a bike or car, I will give google coordinates and a screen map with a beach point.

Google coordinates: 9.520727, 100.057013.

Coral Cove Beach

The beach is located in a small bay, and in itself it is small: only 200 meters in length. There are only a few hotels and cafes here, quite cozy and calm. There are sun loungers, but they can only be used by hotel residents.

Huge stone boulders are scattered on the beach, among which there are such mini-beaches where you can hide from prying eyes, if you're lucky. You can jump on the stones, take pictures. The place is more suitable for coming here for a few hours, admiring the beautiful place and taking a photo.

The water is clean, transparent, the depth is average, not to say that it is shallow. Stones can be caught at the bottom, you need to look under your feet. Schools of fish can sometimes be seen in the water.

How to get to Coral Cove Beach

You need to get to first Hotel Coral Cove Resort and from there go down to the beach. You can get there by tuk tuk.

Google coordinates: 9.49056, 100.06128.

Crystal Bay Beach or Silver Beach

A beach with azure water and light sand. The beach is more suitable for walking and photo shoots. There are stones in the water, there are algae. But you can also swim.

Near the shore, at first shallow, you have to go to the depth. But here it is good to relax with kids.

There is no nightlife on Crystal Bay, only daytime bars and cafes work. Yes, and it’s not necessary, because Chaweng and Lamai are nearby for such cases.

How to get to Crystal Bay Beach

You need to go to Crystal Bay through hotels. You need to get, for example, to the Crystal Bay Hotel Beach Resort and go through it to the beach.

Google coordinates: 9.478, 100.06644.

Lamai Beach or Lamai (Lamai)

In terms of popularity and love among tourists, Lamai is in second place after Chaweng. It's more family-friendly and less party-going. But it also has a lot of people.

The beach itself is already different from neighboring Chaweng. The sand here is coarser and harder. And here it is noticeably deeper, you can reach the depth “up to the neck” in a few steps. That's why given place- one of the best for swimming and swimming.

Of course, because of the sand and depth, the view here is not the same. The water is darker and bluer, not picturesque turquoise. Algae and some kind of debris are sometimes found in the water, but this is not critical. It gets dirtier after a storm, when the waves wash the debris ashore.

The beach itself is very clean, as all institutions carefully monitor the order. Also, the coast is quite wide, the palm growth line is quite far from the water's edge. There are sun loungers and umbrellas that can be rented for the same 3 USD (100 baht). You can rent a jet ski, flyboard, banana, wake board.

The coastline of Lamai Beach is long, so for convenience, three parts are distinguished:

  • The north is not suitable for swimming, so there are fewer people and fewer restaurants. Here, mainly fishermen fish and, accordingly, everything is filled with their boats.
  • When they talk about Lamai, they most often mean the central part, which I described above.

  • Closer to the south, algae, corals and stones are already found, respectively, and there are fewer people.

The Lamai area is considered suitable for long-term residence. Many Russian-speaking expats live and work here.

How to get to Lamai Beach

You can take a tuk-tuk (songteo) or take your own transport.

Google coordinates: 9.46554, 100.04653.

Hua Thanon Beach

Actually, this place is ignored by tourists and is occupied by fishermen and their boats.

How to get to Hua Thanon Beach

You can get there by any convenient transport, including public.

Google coordinates: 9.44487, 100.02588

Laem Set Beach

Quiet, shallow and difficult to swim beach. During high tide it is better to walk here. It is especially good to walk here with children, because they can splash in the water without waves and depth. But you need to choose places without stones and debris. The sand is small in some places, larger and yellow in others.

When the tide begins, an unsightly bottom with stones and numerous algae is exposed.

It was removed on Laem Set only near local hotels, a step to the left, a step to the right, and one can already observe what humanity constantly throws into the sea, and the sea throws it back to man.

How to get to Laem Set Beach

Starting from Laem Set, beaches begin that cannot be reached by a tuk-tuk. Therefore, you need to get to all of them either by taxi, or on your own by motorbike or car.

Google coordinates: 9.42086, 100.00893.

Bang Kao beach

There is a small selection of housing, but there is an opportunity to rent some house for reasonable price.

There are no conditions for swimming on Bang Kao, because it is very shallow, at the bottom there is silt, corals and stones. Accordingly, there are no beach joys of life in the form of bars, sunbeds and umbrellas. But there are no crowds of tourists and drunken cries of youth. Which is a plus for some.

This is just a wild, deserted beach with the opportunity to retire and think about your own, about the eternal. If the garbage does not interfere, which is almost never removed here.

Most often, locals come to the beach, while tourists almost never reach it.

How to get to Bang Kao beach

You can get on the road 4170 by taxi, or by your own transport.

Google coordinates: 9.42317, 99.99386.

Phang Ka Beach

It is also very small, garbage and sparsely populated. Hotels are rare, the territory around them is well-groomed. In other places, you guessed it, there is garbage.

It is quite shallow here, to get to the depth, you have to walk for a long time.

The beach is only suitable for walking and sunbathing in silence. The sandy shore is quite wide, far from the nearest shade from palm crowns. Near the hotels there are sun loungers and umbrellas.

South of Koh Samui there are several coral islands where tourists love to go. Therefore, there are companies here that offer tours to these islands, as well as some other services - diving, snorkeling, etc.

How to get to Phang Ka Beach

On highway 4170 to the southwest of the island in your own transport or by taxi.

Google coordinates: 9.42103, 99.95369.

Taling Ngam Beach

We move to the west of the island. All western beaches are not very suitable for swimming in the sea, but they have a big and bold plus. It is not crowded here and you can meet (or rather see off) stunning sunsets.

The quiet deserted beach of Taling Nam cannot boast of a normal sea. It is shallow, there are stones everywhere at the bottom and I do not advise anyone to swim.

There are few hotels in Taling. In general, here are the most luxurious villas on Koh Samui, hidden from prying eyes.

Although you don’t buy here, this is an amazing place for a romantic evening. Sitting on a deserted beach and watching the sunset, enjoying the quiet lapping of the waves is also worth a lot. Not everyone is the perfect place for swimming.

How to get to Taling Ngam Beach

Taling Nam Beach is located away from the main ring road, so it is impossible to get there by tuk-tuk. You will either have to take a taxi or rent your own transport.

Google coordinates: 9.46105, 99.93302.

Lipa Noi Beach or Tong Yang

Beach with gray sand. Hotels are rare, but it is around them that the area is more or less well-groomed. In some places, the sea washes up quite large heaps of branches and household human garbage.

The sea is also shallow. You have to walk almost 100 meters until you have the opportunity to swim without the risk of scratching your belly on the stones. In the center of the beach the situation is better, it is deeper and there are fewer stones. The water near the shore is cloudy.

The beach is suitable for children who can cry at the shore. It is also good to walk here and enjoy the sunsets.

And, again, like many beaches in the West, this one is suitable for watching the sunset. There are few entertainment establishments, young people usually do not come here.

How to get to Lipa Noi Beach

Lipa Noi beach is already closer to the ring road, but still not close. You can’t get there by tuk-tuk, only if you walk then go from the road to the beach, which is far away. You can get there by taxi or private transport.

Google coordinates: 9.50069, 99.93439.

Nathon Beach

Nathon is the capital and also a port city. It is Nathon that is most often seen by those travelers who arrive by ferry.

Nathon - industrial city. Ferries, boats and boats run here. The low tide here is especially noticeable, the sea itself is quite shallow and, moreover, it is dirty here.

How to get to Nathon Beach

If you arrived by ferry, then you are most likely already in Nathon. From other points of the island, all tuk-tuks flock here, since their terminal is in Nathon.

Google coordinates: 9.52822, 99.93458.

Bang Po Beach Samui

First beach with north side islands, so in our review the places for swimming begin again.

Bang Po is recommended for families with kids. The sea near the shore is shallow, which is exactly what children need. In order to reach a suitable depth for an adult, you need to walk the metro 15-20. This beach is affected by low tides, as an unsightly bottom with corals is exposed. Therefore, on Bang Po you need to take into account the tide and come only at this time.

There are no sun loungers for rent. Here you can find inexpensive housing both for daily rent and for long-term rentals of several months, so this place is often chosen by families with children who come for a long time.

It’s good to just walk along this beach, there are few people here and these are mostly families with children.

How to get to Bang Por Beach

Starting from Nathon, the opportunity to get to the beaches by tuk-tuk returns again.

Google coordinates: 9.57838, 99.94939.

Ban Tai Beach

It is a small and quiet beach where there are usually few people. In general, it is similar to the previous one, since it is not deep here, and again, parents with kids choose this place.

The sand here is light and soft. There is garbage, especially along the edges of the beach.

How to get to the beach (Baan Tai Beach)

You can get there by any means of transport (tuk-tuk, motorbike, taxi, car) to the Mimosa resort hotel. From the ring road there will be a turn to the sea and above it a blue sign with the text This is way to the public beach. In the screenshot below, this turn is clearly visible, there is still a 7-Eleven store on the corner.

Google coordinates: 9.58323, 99.96813.

Maenam beach

My favorite and the king of the beaches of all Koh Samui is Maenam.

The sand here is large, yellow, very pleasant for me. The waves are sometimes quite strong if the weather is bad and windy. But if the day is warm, sunny and calm, then this is not water, but a fairy tale.

This beach is quite large: in one part it is more lively, and in some places it is very quiet and calm.

I lived at the very beginning of the beach (in its western part) and first I will tell you about this area. I very rarely see bathing tourists here. Sometimes Thais come, who always swim in clothes. Sometimes local kids frolic. But more often than not, we swam here all alone, which I really liked.

The width of the coast in this part is only a few meters, the sand is coarse, yellow. There is rubbish, unfortunately. A couple of times I saw Thai schoolchildren picking up garbage. Apparently, they, like us, are driven to subbotniks, only to the seashore.

In this part of the coast is not very suitable for lying here in the sun. But I never sunbathe, and I come to the beach only to swim, so I do not have tea in this beach.

You only need to take 5-6 steps in the water, and you already get a good depth for swimming. At the bottom, I never ran into any rocks at all. In calm weather there are no waves, in windy weather there are waves and it is inconvenient to swim.

In another part of the beach there are more tourists and there are water activities. There are already bars and restaurants, and masseuses are ready to give you a massage. The nightlife is not so developed here, as the area is more family-friendly. But there are very nice atmospheric bars on the beach, just like a picture from a movie.

The water is rarely completely transparent, only in very good weather. Basically, she's a little vague. However, this does not prevent her from being a wonderful blue color.

How to get to Maenam beach

The ring road stretches along the entire Maenam beach, so you can easily get there by tuk-tuk. I repeat that the beach is long and there are many options for where to go.

Google coordinates: 9.57577, 99.99145.

Bophut Beach (Bophut Beach)

Oh, this confusion with Thai names. Bophut beach is often called Bophut, which is not entirely correct, but everyone is already used to it. By the way, the situation is similar with the island of Phuket, which everyone calls. Okay, back to the beach.

Popular great beach. Medium yellow sand. Just like on Maenam, it is quite deep here, there are few waves, so it is good to swim here. There are sun loungers and umbrellas that can be rented for 3 USD (100 baht).

There are all kinds of water activities. There are a lot of people, but mostly in the area of large hotels, of which there are many.

Bophut has a developed infrastructure, but mainly daytime restaurants, hotels and spas. For clubbing and nightlife, continue to Chaweng.

In general, we can say that Bophut, both in location and in its essence and atmosphere, is something in between the calm and family Maenam and the active Chaweng. It’s more fun here than on Maenam, but there are no those endless parties until the morning like on Chaweng.

How to get to Bophut beach

It is easy to get there, because there is a tuk-tuk here, you just need to ask the driver to make a stop at Bophut.

Google coordinates: 9.561, 100.02788.

Big Buddha Beach or Bang Rak

This place is not suitable for swimming and generally relaxing, in my opinion. It is a bit shallow here, the water near the shore is muddy and it is easy to stumble upon stones. There are quite a lot of boats on the beach, which also does not add to the desire to swim.

There are four piers here, boats with tourists are constantly scurrying back and forth. From here boats go to neighboring islands, including Koh Tao.

The sand is yellow and fine, in good weather the water is azure and in general it is quite beautiful and you can sunbathe or walk.

There are no water activities, especially people, but there are sunbeds for connoisseurs to lie on the beach in silence and solitude.

How to get to Bang Rak Beach

Bang Rak Beach is located almost opposite the airport. Tuk-tuk plying on the ring road does not call here. As an option: you can drive to Bophut beach and take a walk from there. Or take a taxi or private transport to the place marked on the map.

Google coordinates: 9.56503, 100.06193.

Choeng Mon Beach

The coast line is quite wide, there are sunbeds and umbrellas everywhere on the beach (which, like everywhere else, can be rented for 3 USD). In the evening, tables are set up in cafes right on the beach.

The water here is of a beautiful azure color, but it hides stones under it. Closer to the center of the stones are smaller and it is more convenient to swim there.

This area of the island is very busy, so all the people flock here. There are quite a lot of all kinds of services here: from cafes and various massage parlors to water extreme and not very things. For example, here you can ride a banana, take a kayak or a yacht, go water skiing.

How to get to Choeng Mon Beach

The beach stretches right at the tip of the "offshoot" of the island. Tuk-tuk calls here, but does not go very regularly. It is easier to get there by renting a bike or car.

Google coordinates: 9.57222, 100.08386.

Best beaches in Koh Samui

As you can see from the review, the beaches on Koh Samui are very different. Talking about which beach is better and which is worse can only be subjective. Judging by the popularity among tourists, the best beaches are:

Chaweng; Lamai; Maena.

These are the three most suitable beaches for swimming in the sea, all of which are easily accessible.

Best Koh Samui beaches for kids

If you are traveling with children, then the requirements for the beach are completely different. The beach should be clean, there should not be strong waves on it, the entrance should be gentle, it should not be too close to the depth:

Chaweng; Maenam; Chong Mon; Lipa Noi; Ban Tai; Crystal Bay.

Wild beaches of Koh Samui

It should be understood that there are no completely wild beaches on Koh Samui. For example, I do not remember that any beach was completely deserted. No, no, once an hour a couple of tourists or local natives will flash somewhere.

So we will call wild beaches where there are simply few people.

These include all the western and southern beaches:

Hua Thanon; Laem Seth; Bang Kao; Pang Ka; Taling Nam; Lipa Noi.

All these beaches have a shallow sea, with stones on the shore and in the water. Some of them are dirty, but most are clean and very beautiful. Suitable for long calm walks without the need to bypass the numerous bathing and sunbathing bodies.

Nudist beaches on Koh Samui

I have never practiced nudism, and therefore I have never been to such beaches. In general, in Thailand, the island is most famous among nudists. On Koh Samui, as far as I know, there are no official nudist beaches. On the Internet, on the forums, Ban Tai Beach is mentioned, along which you have to go left until you come across a nudist beach. However, with a greater desire, with a slight movement of the hand of any wild beach turns… turns into a nudist! At the same time, it is worth remembering that the Thais have a negative attitude towards such European weaknesses. And it seems that there is even a fine for public exposure. Another thing is that who will prescribe it to you there on a remote deserted beach?

***

So, my review is over, I hope that it helped you and you will choose the best beach for yourself. And if you have time, then I advise you to take bikes and ride along all the beaches and see all the coasts of Koh Samui on your own.

Happy travels!

Have something to add?

Koh Samui is very popular with both Russian and European and Asian tourists. Koh Samui has never let vacationers down with its beautiful tropical beaches. Koh Samui offers a wide variety of beaches, some of them lively and bustling with bars, beach clubs and tourist entertainment, while others, on the contrary, offer a secluded vacation among the untouched wildlife of the island.

There are a lot of beaches on Koh Samui and they are all different. Both in terms of the presence of tourist infrastructure and the quality of the coast. Therefore, in order for you to get maximum satisfaction from your vacation, you should carefully choose your place of residence and bathing places, taking into account your preferences.

Generally speaking, the best Koh Samui beaches for swimming and relaxation are located on the north and east coast islands.

For an ordinary tourist holiday, it is preferable to choose a beach near the airport (Lamai, Bo Phut, Chaweng, Chaweng Noi). This part of the island has good beaches, well developed tourism infrastructure. Many hotels of different price categories, a variety of cafes, bars and restaurants. There are also large shopping centers.

For long stays, the best beaches are Lamai, Maenam, Choeng Mon and Baan Tai. There is a good combination of beach quality and tourist infrastructure. Winterers may also be interested low prices rental housing beaches in the southwest of the island. But there the coast is very mediocre and the tourist infrastructure is poorly developed.

If we evaluate the quality of the beach itself in terms of the purity of the water, how convenient the entrance to the sea is, then the best Koh Samui beaches in our opinion, these are Thongtakian, Thongson and Coral Cove, with excellent beaches and crystal clear waters. But it should be noted that the tourist infrastructure is poorly developed on these beaches. If parties are important to you, the presence of a hypermarket, then choose a place closer to Chaweng.

Chaweng Yai Beach

Chaweng is one of the largest beaches on the island, its length is more than five kilometers. Chaweng Beach can be divided into three parts: northern, central and southern. Northern part is called Chaweng Yai Beach. This section of the beach has a length of about two kilometers. The width of the coastline is about 15 meters. Chaweng Yai Beach is not popular with lovers beach holiday. The beach consists of two parts - shallow and deep with a rocky bottom. In general, the beach is not suitable for swimming.

However, the tourist infrastructure in the vicinity of the beach is very well developed. Many hotels of different price categories, a variety of cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. Chaweng Yai Beach is more of a party place than a place for beach holidays and swimming.

Chaweng Beach

The central part of Chaweng Beach, has the same name (Chaweng Beach) without additional prefixes, and is perhaps the most popular beach on the island. The whole tourist life on the island is concentrated around this beach. The tourist infrastructure is incredibly well developed. Starting with a large number beach activities and ending with the presence of large shopping centers.

In the vicinity of Chaweng there are well-known and popular large shopping centers: "Big C", "Tesco", "Macro", "Makro", "Tesco" -

The largest shopping center on Koh Samui - "Central Festival" is also located on Chaweng.

Focused around the beach a large number of hotels and guest houses of different price categories and a variety of services. Lots of restaurants, bars and cafes. Large selection of travel agencies. It is on this beach that the most luxurious parties and shows on Koh Samui are held.

Houses for rent are mainly to be found near Chaweng Lake. The Chaweng beach area, due to the developed tourist infrastructure and the presence of large shopping centers, is a very good place for a long stay.

In the Chaweng area is also the most famous hospital of Samui - "Bangkok Samui Hospital", expensive (if you do not have insurance), but with a high quality of service.

Chaweng Beach is beautiful and very picturesque. The entry into the sea is gentle, clean without stones, the depth increases gradually. The depth is suitable for swimming. The sand on the beach is quite light and fine.

All hotels on Chaweng Beach >>>

Chaweng Noi Beach

The next beach after Chaweng, located to the south, will be Chaweng Noi Beach or South Chaweng. It is similar to the central Chaweng beach, only inferior to it in size. The coastline is about a kilometer long. On this stretch of coast, the entire coastline between the road and the beach is occupied by hotels. Therefore, to get to the beach, you must either pass through the territory of a hotel or through the Bistro Samui restaurant. The beach is cozy, clean and well-groomed with fine, cream-colored light sand. The depth is slightly shallower than in the central part of Chaweng. The depth sufficient for swimming starts somewhere in 5-7 meters from the shore. Entry into the sea is smooth. In the northern part of the beach there is a small cove with a stone barrier where you can snorkel. There is a lot of natural shade on the beach, which allows you not to depend on the hotel infrastructure.

One feature of this beach should be noted - the presence of strong waves in winter time and complete calm in the summer months. Perhaps this is one of the best beaches on the island.

All hotels on Chaweng Noi Beach >>>

Lamai Beach

The second most popular beach on Koh Samui is Lamai Beach. It is located ten kilometers south of Chaweng Beach. The Lamai area occupies a fairly large area inland. Only the coastline has a length of more than 4 kilometers. Conventionally, Lamai beach can be divided into three: southern, central, northern. Lamai Beach is quieter and less crowded than Chaweng. The tourist infrastructure is very well developed. There are many hotels and guest houses of different price categories. In the interior of the island there are many offers of houses that can be rented for a long time. A wide variety of cafes, restaurants and bars for every taste.

A shopping street stretches along the coast, where massage parlors, travel agencies, cafes and bars, including McDonald's, clothing and fruit markets, are located. In the beach area there are also several large shopping centers: Tesco and Makro. In these shopping centers you will find everything you need: from food to clothing and household goods. There are also good food courts. In the beach area there is a children's water park, diving centers and many spa salons. Lamai Beach can be safely recommended both for tourist recreation and for long-term living. The beach is about half an hour from the airport.

Lamai Beach, northern part (Lamai Beach)

A very cozy and quiet area of Lamai beach, located a little away from the center of the village. A ring road runs along the coast. And although there is a fairly dense building (including several hotels), in the evenings it is a very quiet place where the noise of night discos and parties does not reach.

This part of the beach is not suitable for swimming due to the shallow and rocky bottom. The water level during low tides is very low: somewhere up to the ankle.

Lamai Beach, central and southern parts (Lamai Beach)

The southern part and the central part of Lamai Beach are often singled out separately, but since it is visually difficult to determine the boundary where the central part ends and the southern part begins, and plus there are no big differences between them, we will combine their description.

The coastline is quite wide, the sand is coarse, soft and loose, golden in color. The entry into the sea in the central part of the beach is gentle, clean without stones, the depth is sufficient for swimming already about ten meters from the shore. The water is clear only when there are no waves. In the southern part of the beach, the depth is a little shallower, the entry into the sea is gentle, but there are stones and corals. Sea urchins can often be found among the stones.

There are always a lot of vacationers, but there is enough space for everyone. There is a large selection of water activities, there are tents where you can get a massage. The only thing to consider is the lack of natural shade on Lamai Beach. If umbrellas are not provided by your hotel, there is always the option to either rent an umbrella on the beach or purchase one at one of the malls. Lamai Beach is one of the tourist centers of the island. Various activities and parties do not stop until late in the evening.

South of Lamai Beach one of the famous and popular attractions of the island is located - the picturesque black-and-gray boulders Hin Yai (Grandmother) and Hin Ta (Grandfather). These are rocks created by nature that resemble male and female reproductive organs. There is even a legend about their appearance. They are very revered by the Thais and are one of the Thai shrines. This place is also very popular with tourists everywhere taking selfies against the backdrop of these rocks.

South of Chaweng Beach is a very small Coral Cove beach. The coastline of the beach has a length of about 130 meters. The beach is located in a secluded bay with bizarre rocks along the edges. The beach itself is very beautiful. The sand on Coral Cove is coarse, crumbly, yellowish in color. Entry into the sea is clean and gentle. Depth sufficient for swimming. The tides are not very pronounced. Strong waves on the beach are usually only during the winter months. The beach is constantly being cleaned.

The beach is quiet and not crowded. There are only three hotels on the coast. In addition to hotel restaurants, there is also a small Thai cafe on the beach with low prices. Near the beach there observation platform with cafes and beautiful view to the bay. This is one of the best beaches on the island for swimming and beach holidays.

Maenam Beach

You can find a different translation of the name of this beach: Mainam, Maenam, Maenam, Maenam

Maenam Beach is located in the north of Koh Samui. The beach is popular with families with children. Many families choose Maenam to stay for a long time. Not far from the sea there are many villages with a closed territory. There are a lot of offers for renting houses for a long period. The further inland the island, the cheaper you can rent a house. The area is very quiet, in the evenings there are no noisy parties. Maenam Beach will be attractive for those who are looking for relaxation and solitude. This perfect place for vacationers with children.

The length of Maenam beach is about five kilometers. The sand on the beach is coarse and yellow. The entry into the sea is gentle, clean without stones. True, there are algae at the bottom. Swimming depth starts close to the shore. It will be very difficult for children to swim. For some reason, the water is always cloudy, and when the sea is rough, it becomes completely cloudy due to the suspension raised from the bottom by the waves. In general, the beach has good protection from the waves. Even during the winter months, there are rarely strong waves. The coastline is constantly cleaned, but there is no perfect cleanliness, due to the large number of vacationers. The beach is very popular, so there are always a lot of vacationers here, but there is enough space for everyone. The beach itself is very beautiful, along the coastline there are many palm trees that create a natural shade. Seen from the shore neighboring island Phangan.

Three rivers flow into the sea near the beach. Closer to them, the number of mosquitoes increases. Therefore, it is necessary to have a repellent. The most effective are local Thai remedies sold in many stores and pharmacies.

The location of the beach is not bad: it is not far from the beaches of Chalong and Lamai, where large shopping centers and the main party places of the island are located. Lompraya catamarans moor to Maenam Beach, which ply to the mainland through the islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. From the airport to the beach about 20 minutes drive.

The tourist infrastructure is very extensive. Large selection of hotels and guest houses of different price categories. A lot of cafes, bars and restaurants for every taste. A large number of massage and spa salons, travel agencies, laundries. There are grocery and hardware stores. Work in the morning and evening food markets. The prices are quite low. There is even a post office.

In the evening, many cafes take out tables right on the beach. It is very pleasant to dine by candlelight, to the sound of the surf.

Bo Phut Beach

The beach is located in the northern part of Koh Samui, between Maenam Beach and the Big Buddha. You can drive from the airport to the beach in 15 minutes. A ring road runs along the beach. The area between the road and the coastline is built up with hotels. You can get to the beach from the road either through the territory of one of the hotels or along the Fisherman Village embankment. The beach is very popular and crowded. The tourist infrastructure is very well developed. A large selection of accommodation from expensive hotels to democratic guest houses. Inland, a large selection of houses for rent for a long period. True, rental prices here are slightly higher than in other parts of the island. If we talk about prices not only for housing, but in general, including fruits and vegetables in the market, dishes in cafes, then the general impression is that Bo Phut is a more expensive area of the island compared to Chaweng and Lamai. Lots of restaurants, bars and cafes. Travel agencies and massage parlors are literally at every turn. There are grocery and hardware stores, including large Big C and Makro supermarkets. Good transport links to other parts of the island.

The coastline is quite long. The sand is coarse and golden. The beach is not very wide. There are palm trees on the shore. You can swim only in the central part of the beach. Entry into the sea is clean, gentle. Depth begins immediately near the shore. True, somewhere after two meters the sandy bottom turns into a muddy one, which causes a little discomfort. The water in the sea is not completely transparent due to suspension, which never sinks. Swimming with a mask does not make sense, as visibility under water is poor. The beach is constantly kept clean. There are usually not many people on the beach. The eastern and western parts of the beach are less well maintained and are mainly used for parking boats and boats.

Bo Phut makes a very pleasant impression. Very beautiful coastline. There is, unlike other beaches, central embankment"Fisherman Village", where many restaurants and shops are located, and which is pleasant to walk around both during the day and in the evening.

Lipa Noi Beach

Lipa Noi beach is located on west coast Koh Samui, a little away from the ring road, near the cape where the naval base is located. In this part of the beach, a cargo pier was built for the needs of the military base. But it doesn't cause much inconvenience. The beach has a sufficient length, and there is no need to rest directly near the pier. A hundred meters from the pier, the water is clean and clear. The sand on the beach is fine, light, grayish in color. The entry into the sea is gentle. The bottom is mostly clean, but in some places there are algae and accumulations of stones and coral fragments. In different months, due to the level of the tides, the depth of the sea changes. In the winter months the sea is deep enough for swimming, in the summer months the sea is shallow. The beach itself is very beautiful, lots of palm trees and natural shade.

On the coast there are several expensive hotels with large area. Many offers of luxury villas, houses and bungalows for rent for a long period. In the interior of the island, as usual, the cost of rent is lower than on the coast. The area is very quiet, there are no noisy companies. This place is very popular with couples with children and European pensioners.

The tourist infrastructure is poorly developed. There are food markets and stalls, small shops. There are also cafes and restaurants, but not in large numbers. In the Lipa Noi area are located: a large state Koh Samui Hospital and an immigration office. Lipa Noi Beach is the most popular night club on the coast - "Nikki Beach". Ban Tai Beach is very beautiful, with numerous palm trees along the coast providing natural shade. The sand is fine and light. The entry into the sea is gentle. The depth increases gradually. On most of the beach, when entering the sea, algae and stones are found. There is only one hundred-meter section of the beach with a clear entry into the sea. Parts of the beach, where a few hotels are located, are constantly cleaned.

The beach is located a little on the outskirts, away from the ring road. The Mimosa Hotel is located on the beach, so Ban Tai Beach is often called by the name of the hotel - Mimosa Beach. The beach is quiet and calm, there are no annoying sellers, no noisy discos and drunken youth. There are many offers for long-term rental of villas, houses and bungalows not far from the coast (on average, at a distance of 10 minutes walk to the sea). The beach also has good transport links to Nathon and Bo Put.

W-Retreat Hotel Beach (W-Retreat Koh Samui Beach)

On the beach is the W-Retreat Koh Samui, one of the most luxurious hotels on Koh Samui. We can state with confidence that the quality of the beach corresponds to the level of the hotel. First of all, it is worth mentioning the cleanliness of the beach. The hotel staff maintains, one might say, the ideal cleanliness of the beach. Secondly, the beach is in unusual place- a sand spit extends from it more than a hundred meters into the sea.

Many tourists come here to take beautiful pictures. Considering that there are no private beaches in Thailand, everyone can freely get to the W-Retreat Koh Samui beach. Well, the beach itself is gorgeous too. Soft, fine light sand. Clean, gentle entry into the sea. The depth is sufficient for swimming, it starts near the coast on the right side of the spit. Many palm trees grow along the coastline, which creates enough natural shade.

Bang Rak Beach

Bang Rak is located on northeast coast Koh Samui islands. In the area of Bang Rak beach is one of the attractions of the island - the statue of the Big Buddha. And the flight path of the aircraft passes over the Bang Rak beach. Many tourists come to the beach to take pictures of low-flying planes from a beautiful angle. Also in the center of Bang Rak is a pier from where boats leave for Koh Phangan.

From the point of view of a purely beach holiday, Bang Rak is not the best place. Although children like the shallow sea and the beautiful nature of the beach. The coastline is not wide. The sand is fine and light. The beach is located in a U-shaped bay and the sea is shallow and rocky at the edges of the bay. In the middle part of the beach, the sea is deep, but due to the proximity of piers and constantly cruising boats, the sea in this part is dirty.

The tourist infrastructure is very well developed. There are many hotels and guest houses of different price categories. Many offers for renting villas, houses and bungalows for a long period. True, the prices are not lower than in other parts of the island. Many cafes, bars and restaurants for every taste. There are travel agencies, Thai massage parlors, pharmacies, shops and markets. Located on the northeast coast of Koh Samui, next to Bang Rak Beach. Quite long beach. The sand on the beach is light, fine and crumbly. Entry into the sea is gentle, mostly clean. In the central part of the beach, the sea is deep, along the edges - shallow water. There is a lot of vegetation on the beach, creating a natural shade. There are a lot of vacationers on Choeng Mon, especially in the central part of the beach. The beach is very popular with families with children. The infrastructure is very well developed. Many water activities are offered. The central part of the coast is occupied by hotels, and along the edges of the bay - houses and villas that are rented out for a long time. Many restaurants, bars and cafes for every taste. In the beach area there are mini markets, stalls, small markets, travel agencies and massage parlors. Nearby are the beaches of Chaweng and Bang Rak, which are easily accessible by tuk-tuk. Choeng Mon Beach is one of the best options for holidays with children.

South coast beaches: Laem Set, Bang Khao, Thong Krut, Thong Tanot

If you describe the beaches located in the south of the island, then they have a lot in common. All of them are sparsely populated, one might even say deserted. The beaches are quiet, wild, with a beautiful, practically untouched nature. coast with big amount natural waste. Cleaned mainly areas in the immediate vicinity of hotels and expensive villas. The sand on the coastline is large, yellow. The sea off the coast is shallow. The tides are pronounced. At low tides, the sea "leaves" almost half a kilometer. The bottom is rocky. The sea near the coast is practically not suitable for swimming.

Thong Tanot Beach and Thong Krut - These are the two most distant beaches of the island. There is practically no infrastructure. You need your own transport. To get to the nearest areas of the island with a developed tourist infrastructure, you need to spend at least an hour.

Bang Kao beach- one of the longest beaches on Koh Samui, located far from the ring road, settlements And tourist centers. The coastline is very little built up: a few hotels and a small number of private houses and villas. The sea near the coast is rocky and shallow. There are many fishing boats and boats near the shore, for the mooring of which the bottom is deepened in some places.

Bang Khao Beach is ideal for nature lovers who like to relax away from crowded places. This place is also popular with fishermen. There is practically no tourist infrastructure in the area of Bang Khao beach. To get to the beach, you need to go through the territory of one of the hotels located on the coast.

Laem Set beach although it is located closer to Lamai, independent tourists rarely come here. This is primarily due to the fact that you can only get to the beach through the hotel, which is not always possible. The beach is equipped, but the infrastructure belongs to the hotel and is available only to its guests. There are no shops, cafes and no entertainment in the beach area.

Laem Set is a beautiful beach, with pristine wildlife, huge trees grow along the coast, creating a natural shade. Unfortunately, this is not the best place for swimming: the sea is shallow with a muddy bottom. True, a small barr reef is located a hundred meters from the shore. You can get there by boat or kayak. There you can perfectly swim with a mask, watching the life of marine life. However, you must be careful not to damage coral reef by stepping on it or hitting it with a kayak.

Taling Ngam Beach

Taling Ngam Beach is located on the west coast of the island, away from the ring road. This is a beautiful beach for a secluded, romantic and relaxing holiday. Very beautiful beach with palm trees on the coast, untouched wildlife and turquoise sea. Gorgeous sunsets overlooking the neighboring Five Islands archipelago add a certain charm to this place. Very few independent tourists get to these places. On the coast there are several expensive hotels (for example, the five-star Hotel Intercontinental), which are located at a distance from each other. In general, the beach is not crowded: there are no parties and noisy companies of drunken youth.

The sand on the beach is medium in size, light yellow in color. The entry into the sea is gentle, the bottom is muddy, in some places there are stones and fragments of corals. The depth of the sea is greater than on the southern beaches, but still not sufficient for swimming. At the Hotel Intercontinental, a long pier goes into the sea, from which you can comfortably swim in the sea. The coastline within the hotels is kept clean.

In the Taling Ngam area, you can rent houses and bungalows almost on the seashore at prices lower than in other areas of the island. There is practically no infrastructure for independent tourists. There are several cafes and restaurants, a couple of shops. You need your own transport to travel for everything you need to other parts of the island. The ring road is far away. Almost all hotel guests use the services and infrastructure of hotels.

Koh Samui beaches

On some of the beaches of Koh Samui, during low tide, the bottom becomes very shallow and swimming becomes problematic. On the popular beaches of Chaweng, Lamai, Maenam, ebbs and flows do not interfere with swimming, to find out about other beaches, take a look at the map. Those places that are colored yellowish-brown on the map become very shallow during low tide and expose the land. Beaches where there are many such spots are not very suitable for swimming.

Most popular beaches Koh Samui is located in the east. This is Chaweng Beach and Lamai - these beaches are famous for their white sand, clear water. In the north, the beaches of Bophut and Maenam are popular. There the sand is yellow, the water is clean, but not transparent.

Beaches in the west Nathon and Bang Kham are not popular. The presence of a port makes the water in these places dirty and muddy.

And today we will talk about the best beaches on Koh Samui. Despite the fact that the territory of Koh Samui is small, there are quite a lot of different beaches, ranging from the most party-like to wild, little-visited places. Therefore, everyone can find a beach to their taste. All beaches on the island are free and you can freely get to any of them, even if it is located on the territory of a hotel or restaurant.

I will describe the beaches of Koh Samui from north to south, you can follow the map where this or that place is located. We will talk about the 14 best beaches, most of them are located on the eastern part of the island, in principle, this is where tourists stop. The rest of the beaches can be classified as wild, there is practically no infrastructure and they are not adapted for tourist recreation.

Bang Por is located on the northern part of Koh Samui, its length is 6 kilometers. This is a fairly quiet place, there is a lot of housing for rent and prices for it are much lower than in popular tourist areas. Therefore, if you have come for the winter and want to save money, then this area is ideal for you. The beach is clean sandy with a smooth entrance to the sea, great for families with children. There are few people, there is no entertainment on the beach, but a large number of different cafes and restaurants along the coast, so you will not be left hungry. Thai children often play on the shore, and there are also many fishing boats.

Ban Thai Beach

I fell in love with Ban Tai for small soft white sand. However, the sea is almost everywhere overgrown with algae, which is inconvenient for swimming. Only at the end of the beach there is the only place with a clean bottom and clear water, it is in this part of the beach that there is a large concentration of vacationers. The entrance to the sea is so smooth that it is necessary to walk a hundred meters for the water to reach the neck. But from there you can see an incredibly beautiful view of the beach. On the shore is the Mimosa Hotel, often the beach itself is called the name of this hotel.

Maenam Beach

Most often, I lived in the Maenam area and visited this beach. This is a rather quiet place, not crowded, there are no water activities and merchants. The sand on the shore is yellow and coarser than on Ban Tai. The entrance to the sea is smooth, the water is clean. There are many cafes and restaurants along the coast, palm trees grow along the coastline, which create a natural shadow on the beach. Read more about this beach.

Beach hotel W-Resort (W-Resort Beach)

Separately, I want to highlight the beach, which belongs to one of the most expensive hotels on Koh Samui W-Resort. It is well maintained, with all the amenities for the residents of the hotel. There are various sunbeds, a restaurant on the beach and even huge chess. Despite the fact that this is a private area, access is open to strangers. Many people come here to take great photos.

Bo Phut Beach

Bo Phut is another northern beach Samui. Numerous hotels are located on its shore and access to it passes either through their territory or on the waterfront of Fishermann Village. Many tourists rest on this beach, the infrastructure is well developed here, and a large number of entertainments are offered. The sea is clean, the descent into the water is smooth, the sand on the beach is yellow and soft. On Fridays, there is a clothing market that runs along the beach.

Bang Rak Beach

Bang Rak is a quiet beach in the north of the island, next to the airport. The infrastructure is quite well developed, water activities are available. The beach is close to the road and large Big C and Tesco Lotus stores. The sea is clean, the sand is soft on the shore, however, the bottom in some parts of the beach is rocky, which is not very convenient for swimming. There are usually few people here.

Thong Son Beach

Tong Son - quiet bay on the island of Koh Samui, along which there are quite expensive hotels. The sea is shallow and clean, the sand is soft. Perfect place for holidays with children. The infrastructure is underdeveloped, there are few people. Thong Son is considered the most romantic and secluded place, with beautiful nature and magnificent sunsets.

Chong Mon Beach

Choeng Mon is quite crowded, especially during the high season. There are many water activities and merchants. Because of the shallow sea, it is perfect for children's recreation. The sea is clean, there are no waves, the sand is fine and greyish. Along the coast there are many cafes, bars, massage parlors, you can rent a sun lounger.

Chaweng Beach

The most popular and party beach on Koh Samui. Many package tourists and young people rest here. A huge number of cafes, restaurants, massage parlors, bars and shops. Entertainment for every taste, parties are often held on the beach. Chaweng is considered the most party and noisy place on the island. The sand on the beach is fine and white, the sea is clean and shallow. Read more about Chaweng Beach.

Chaweng Noi Beach

Chaweng Noi is considered the younger brother of Chaweng, but it is smaller and calmer. The beach is beautiful, well-groomed, the sand is white and soft, the sea is quite deep. Hotels are located along the coast and you can get to the beach only through their territory. All infrastructure is provided by hotels, there are water activities.

Coral Cove is a small but very beautiful and cozy beach. It has become a favorite place for many who have been here. Despite its inaccessibility, there are always a lot of people on the beach. The descent from the main road to Coral Cove is quite steep, so you should carefully drive off it. There is practically no entertainment here, only a couple of cafes on the beach. The sea is deep and clean, the bottom is sandy, despite the fact that the beach is surrounded by rocks. In winter, there are often waves, but they are small.

Crystal Bay

Crystal Bay is also called Thong Takian Beach and Silver Beach. It is a crowded but very beautiful place. The sand is white, the sea is azure and shallow, there are almost never waves. Families with children often come here. There are hotels, restaurants and cafes on the coast. Despite the fact that the beach is popular with tourists, it is quite calm here, there are no entertainments and youth parties.

Lamai Beach

Lamai is the second most popular beach after Chaweng. It has a long coastline that is 4 kilometers long. The best place to relax and swim is the center of the beach. The sand is fine, light yellow, the sea is clean. In winter, there are often big waves. There are always a lot of people, a varied selection of entertainment. On the shore there are cafes, restaurants, bars, hotels, massage centers. The beach is great for outdoor activities. You can read more about Lamai Beach.

Hua Thanon

Hua Thanon - beautiful place, people often gather here to play volleyball or go for a morning run. Along the coast there are quite a few hotels, both expensive and cheap. Hua Thanon is a popular kitesurfing destination. There are not very many people here. Near the beach there is an aquarium, a butterfly park, a tiger zoo.

All the beaches that I described in this article are the most popular among tourists, while the rest are either dirty or not suitable for swimming at all.
