For those who do not know what kind of place this is, I will simply say - this is a wonderful city with a wonderful, warm climate. The symbol on the state flag - a palm tree - also speaks of a warm climate, and it flaunts on it to its full height! And the symbol of the city itself is a ripe peach. This place will be very comfortable for people who hate the cold. But those who are accustomed to the noise of a big city, the constant bustle and movement, may not quite like it here, since all this is not there. Fashionistas also have nothing to do in South Carolina, residents do not really bother about clothes, so there will be no one to shine in front of.
The name of the state comes from the name of the province of Carolina. It was originally a British colony North America, which in 1712 they decided to divide into South Carolina and North Carolina. The province, in turn, is named after the father of King Charles II - Charles I. For our Russian ear, this may seem surprising, but if you pronounce the names in Latin, then Karl will sound like Carolus.
The state is very interesting, sometimes it combines the incompatible :). This is where the fans come beach holiday, lovers of excursions and people craving entertainment. I decided to gradually try all kinds of recreation and, it is worth saying that I succeeded. For the first few days, I chose Myrtle Beach - this city is located near Atlantic Ocean and therefore it is distinguished by its freshness and beauty. Since people come here to relax, in the city you can find a lot of entertainment facilities - restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, large shopping centers and golf courses. On the Atlantic coast, this is one of the main resorts, so it is not at all surprising that in such big city local population is only 30 thousand people. The rest of Myrtle Beach is tourists.
The beaches of the city are sandy, very clean, comfortable. Be sure to have lifeguards on the beach, changing cabins, small showers, trash cans. You can buy drinks right on the beach or something to eat. By the way, don't be surprised if you meet Russian students in the city - they come to the city under the Work&Travel program. The locals mostly work in tourism business- How else?
The city is large, but in general, there is only one central long street. There are high-rise buildings - hotels, restaurants, entertainment establishments. This is the noisiest street, where life is always in full swing. It is especially attractive in the evening - all in lights, beautiful signs, full of people who came here to have fun and relax. If you turn off the street and come closer to the line of the beach, the skyscrapers end and small cute rural-type houses begin. Coppices and lakes are often found near the houses. I chose just such a place for living - a small house, where it is quiet, pleasant and cozy. Therefore, I can not say anything about the hotels of the city. Although I know for sure that tourists will be able to find good accommodation for themselves - from the most expensive numbers to small and inexpensive rooms. 
There is only one school in the city, as well as a hospital, as well as a police station. With such a small population, this is quite enough. But there are about 200 churches, as the inhabitants are very devout. Myrtle Beach also has its own baseball team, whose players are proud of all residents. Myrtle Beach has an aquarium. If you happen to visit the city, do not forget to visit this aquarium. Getting there is not difficult, the main thing is not to confuse the streets. Interestingly, there are two streets in the city that have the same name. But one of them is a "business" street, the other is not a business. What is the difference between the streets, I did not understand, but it does not matter. Having circled a little along the streets and alleys of the same name, I finally got to the aquarium and went to look at the fish.
The Myrtle Beach Aquarium is amazing. Visitors are greeted by a virtual exposition, such as they now like to arrange in museums in America. It is a little disappointing, because you want to see real fish. And in the next halls, I got what I wanted - amazing, colorful and diverse fish swimming in large aquariums. An unsurpassed sight is a large tunnel, passing through which you can observe huge rays and sharks just above your head. The sensations are amazing - and interesting, and even a little scary, when this huge predator swims close to you!
I also liked the design of the aquariums - the wreckage of the ships gives them an unusual, slightly fabulous look. An escalator moves along the aquariums - great news for those who do not like to walk a lot. You can also look at the tunnel from above, but this is after you pass it. And the culmination of the program is the show of a scuba diver who dives into the aquarium and there shows various and very interesting tricks to admiring spectators. In general, we can say that Myrtle Beach is a city where tourists can find everything for an amazing vacation. Life in the city is seething day and night, bars, restaurants, shops, small, but very interesting parks attractions for adults and children, water parks. We are two Russian students. First day in America. Fifteen hour flight. The only thing we dreamed about was a healthy and long sleep. For 90 dollars we got it (although not quite healthy and very short-lived) in a hotel, not far from which the property of the old Hilton himself is located. When we woke up in the morning, the first thing we had to do was notify our employer that two of his wards, who came under the Work & Travel program, reached their destination safe and sound. Having successfully completed this business, we, a little encouraged, went in search of an affordable place with a For rent sign, where we could settle for the next three months. After five hours of wandering, we realized - yes, we are in Myrtle Beach, one of the most popular summer resorts America. The gray-haired guys offer visitors to stay in their small hotel for $600 a night, or rent a room for $180 a week, or live in a luxury apartment overlooking the ocean, paying $4,000 for a few days. Horror and hopelessness owned us undividedly. We realized that our search had not been successful and that evening was approaching, and we still had nowhere to go, nowhere to spend the night. We didn't even think about eating. The only thought is what to do next? This is a foreign country where we don't know anyone, where no one can help us. We have no connection with the outside world, we have no connection at all, except with the employer, who is currently in another city.
Thoughts that we want to go home, that our dream turned out to be completely different from what we imagined it to be, became our faithful companions and only friends. As it turned out later, almost half of the students who come to America to work find themselves in such a hopeless situation. Now we look at it as an ordinary life test and an invaluable experience, but then it seemed to us the end of the world. The lifeline for us was the guys from Ukraine, who rented a room in the same hotel as we did on the first night. They told us about a certain student center, which was located far away from our location, but it was there that they could really help us. And we, not sparing our aching legs from fatigue, went on the instructions of the guys to look for that cherished place. Work & Travel students! Feel free to ask your companies or travel agencies through which you get to America under this program, everything about the student centers in the cities you are going to. They should be in every one of them. First of all, upon arrival at your american city visit this center. They will help you and will not leave you alone. In any case, they provided us with the necessary information, telephones, and helped to make an American SIM card, which also works in our Russian cell phone. Also there you can find information about where, for how much and who rents apartments, where to buy a bike, provisions for the first time, meet the same guys, and just relax. In addition, the student center has Internet access and telephone booths where you can call your family. After visiting this place personally, we got a second wind. The world has finally ceased to seem like a black, hopeless hole. So, for a month and a half we have been in the coastal resort town called Myrtle Beach, which is located in Gorry County (South Carolina). Freedom, peace, gusty wind, palm trees and ... loneliness. Day by day you find yourself face to face with yourself. America is a paradise if you are 21, you come to travel with your family or friends, you have money and spoken English. We are just not deprived of the last one, which saves us. All you want after a month and a half of living in a foreign country is to return home. Why? Because that's what this country is - a foreign one. And here you will always be a stranger. Years must pass before you are accepted as one of their own. The difference in way of life and mentality is too great. I always wanted to know how they live here, across the ocean. The difference is not just great, it is commensurate with the abyss in everything - in the standard of living, in how the country itself is structured, in behavior, actions, the people themselves. Of course, everyone is completely different, so to cut everyone with the same brush is the height of ignorance. What is really worth learning from them is the skill of "masks", which we - straightforward and impulsive Russians - are still far from. However, it seems that this is not so vital necessary thing. Although it helps in the work team. Here no one takes dirty linen out of the hut, no one swears openly in front of colleagues, even if between people there is a war- it does not affect the work in any way. It is not accepted here. People leave all their problems and disagreements outside of offices and workrooms. It is rightly said that here people ask how you are doing, not in order to get an answer. It's just the way it is, the way it is. And no matter how much you want to tell a person what's on your mind, the only thing you can do is put on a smile and answer: "I'm fine." Because that's exactly what he wants to hear.
No more. Here, no one is interested in how you feel, unless your good acquaintance or friend shows special attention to you. On the one hand, to us, Russians with a broad soul wide open, this seems wild, but on the other hand, you rejoice in elementary manners and friendliness, which we sometimes lack so much in our homeland. Americans are very friendly people. It is in the order of things to say hello on the street to a complete stranger and receive a greeting in return. And rightly so - sometimes the one and only “Hi! can lift your spirits and save the day. But none of this will help you forget home. It seems to be an idyll - a feeling of free flight, lack of control, local beauty, cheerful student life, but all this breaks down against a wall of inaccessibility, and you begin to feel the scale of missed summer opportunities in your native Samara. After all, no ocean and absolute freedom can replace your relatives and friends. Going away for the summer is the perfect escape from boring reality and routine, a wonderful adventure, but in the midst of this adventure, you realize how much you are pulled back. After all, by the way, many entertainments, including speed, walks around the city at night, fun with friends outside the city - all this is not available here. Here you are the most simple poor student without a car, money and connections, and all the charms of life of the younger generation are closed to you. And besides, what joy can there be from entertainment if there are no friends next to you, with whom all memories of the most ridiculous revels are connected? How can you enjoy the humid air from the ocean, sunbathing on a sunbed, when your family is not next to you, who would like to capture this moment as a keepsake? All that remains for you is to enjoy loneliness and thoughts. In a word, thanks to such a journey, it seems that your eyes are opened, and you understand what you really want from life. True, so far the only thing we want is to return back to everything dear and familiar. But this is not a reason to hang your nose, because there is still the same month and a half of work and a month of travel ahead. So - a lot of time for new experiences and new thoughts. Last summer I was able to relax and work in a wonderful city called Myrtle Beach. The beauty of this town lies in the fact that it is located near the Atlantic Ocean. I have never seen the ocean in my life, and I really wanted to compare it with the Black Sea, where I live.
Thanks to the subtropical climate, Myrtle Beach is visited by many tourists, such a place is no worse famous city Miami. It is almost impossible to get to Myrtle Beach by direct flight from another country. International flights most often pass through big cities, so it is better to change in New York or Washington.
Taking a bus from New York to Myrtle is also not worth it, as you will spend much more time and get very tired. By plane, you will be delivered to the paradise town in less than 2 hours, and you will have to add only 20-40 dollars to the ticket price.
I also decided not to take the bus, so I bought a plane ticket, which cost about $150. The view that opened up during landing impressed me very much: beautiful circles, rooftops of hotels, and the ocean seemed just endless.
After I got out of the airport, I got a little lost. Fortunately, I was lucky, and my grandmother, who flew with me on the plane, helped me check into the hotel. A nice woman helped me and drove me to the hotel in her car. Myrtle Beach has very kind and helpful people! Of course, not all locals will help you, but most southerners will gladly fulfill your request.

It’s worth choosing the hotel where you want to stay in advance, otherwise you risk staying just on the street or paying too much for a regular room. The thing is that students from different countries the world to work in America, as well as American tourists who want to have a good rest from everyday hustle and bustle. By the beginning of summer, all hotel rooms can be booked. I arrived in Myrtle Beach at the beginning of May, so I managed to check into the last available room at the Court Capri Hotel. If you still have not taken care of housing, then you can use the Craigslist website to rent a room from local residents. I worked at Joes Crab Shack, a seafood restaurant. The restaurant was located on Broadway, it was here that all the entertainment buildings were concentrated: clubs, restaurants, souvenir shops and even a cinema. You could also visit the wonderful oceanarium, the entrance cost $ 20, but for those who worked on Broadway, the entrance was free. Very interesting and educational show! Also, on the way to work, I often met a small van from which music was heard. This music van sold ice cream and looked exactly like it's usually seen in movies. Interesting fun attracts many tourists, especially children, and everyone strives to buy a delicious treat.
Most wonderful place worth a visit in without fail- This is the beach. The sand, in any part of Myrtle Beach, is very clean, just like the water in the ocean. You can take the opportunity to take a daybed for sunbathing. In the evening, the police patrol the beach to keep order. Do not forget that in America you can not drink alcohol in crowded places. It is better not to expose yourself to a fine and unnecessary trouble. All residents know that you can drink, the main thing is to hide the bottle in a bag and not do stupid things. My hotel was located in convenient location, walking to the beach could be reached in 5-10 minutes. The balcony also had a wonderful view of the ocean. It was nice to go out on the balcony in the morning before work, drink coffee and watch great view.
