There is a forced and voluntary return of tickets. Forced return caused by cancellation or refusal of a visa, illness (death) of a passenger or his close relative. In this case, the airline will refund the full cost of the tickets, sometimes withholding a minimum service charge.

Voluntary return occurs at the request of the passenger. Each company has its own rules for voluntary returns, but the most common approach is this:

• if you canceled your booking before the ticket was issued, you will be refunded the full price minus the service fee;
• if you are returning a ticket in first or business class, you will be refunded the full price minus the service fee;

Whatever the reasons for the return, you need to apply at the office or on the website of the airline or intermediary from which you bought the ticket. The application must be accompanied by:

• a photocopy of the passport;
• a check or bank statement confirming the purchase.

If the return is forced, you will need copies of documents to confirm good reasons:

• a certificate from the hospital about the illness (death) of the passenger or his close relative;
• visa refusal document.

Can I return a non-refundable ticket?
