Southern Cultures Park in Sochi. Dendrological park "Southern cultures"

This park has been preserved thanks to the people working here, who were not afraid to put their health on the scales and, having declared a hunger strike, demanded attention to the deplorable state of the facility they looked after, while not receiving a salary for two whole years. The scandal reached Moscow. Only after that, the park was helped not to starve to death in every sense, and literally survive the second birth. By the Olympics, this half-plundered corner of the reserved land began to be restored. A lot of reconstruction work has been carried out, and although there is still room for improvement, it is already clear that the Southern Cultures Park in Sochi is regaining its former grandeur.

A park " Southern cultures”, perhaps not yet up to European gardens, but the noble landscapes of this fabulous place will not leave visitors indifferent.

Every year, not having time to wake up from the winter sleep, the park already shines with the whiteness of freshly painted balustrades, rages with the color of all kinds of trees and shrubs. Therefore, if the question arose: “What to see in Sochi in the spring?” It's not even a question - visit Southern Cultures.

Spring in Sochi begins with Southern Cultures Park

The cash desk is made in the same style as the gazebos, located in the park.

As they say, without leaving the cash desk, visitors immediately see the beauty of nature.

The bright forsythia flowers are impossible to miss!

Forsythia or Forsythia is a genus of shrubs and small trees of the Olive family, blooming with beautiful yellow flowers.

Just like the yellow flowers, the bright rules of the park are striking - as usual, there are more prohibitions than permits.

Rules of the Southern Cultures Park

On the other hand, some “wise guy” painted an old water tower after all.

Going deep into the park, to the right of the pond, you can see an architectural monument built in 1905 - a water tower.

...and carved wood using a living trunk stone tree.

The inscription on the stone tree trunk is almost overgrown, but, of course, it will not completely disappear.

Dzelkva in Georgian means "stone bar".

Behind the stone tree is a clearing with daffodils.

Opposite the hornbeam zelkova, magnolia sulange blooms. Sometimes even the locals call it the tulip tree, and although these two species are indeed related, in this photo it is still the sulange magnolia.

IN good conditions it blooms early and profusely. Sometimes flowers bloom a week earlier than usual. Therefore, to get to the current flower vernissage, you should not wait too long. sunny days- for the sake of aromas (like fine French perfumes) and the views of these beauties, you can take a walk even in windy, cloudy weather.

A tall white magnolia grows next to the pink magnolia. In March, its flowers, like birds, "sit" on the branches, basking in the warm spring sun.

Nearby stands a sprawling plane tree, so large that even from ten meters it does not fit into the frame.

Despite the two most terrible hurricanes that hit the Southern Cultures park in Sochi, there are quite a lot of gigantic trees left here.

In the park a large number of species of trees, shrubs, flowers, but the feeling of chaos in this diversity is not created, because all the plants are correctly grouped and distributed over the territory of the "Southern Cultures".

Composition with a Mexican slide against the backdrop of magnificent, bright cersis.

The composition with a Mexican slide smoothly transfers visitors to the alley of cersis, strewn with bright purple flowers. The color of these deciduous shrubs is always very rich and can reach dark purple. By the way, the second name of cersis is purple.

Cersis Alley in the Southern Cultures Park

Despite the fact that the cersis has absolutely no aroma, due to its rapid growth and abundant flowering, it is often used in gardens with a warm climate, and the Southern Cultures Park in Sochi can boast that the mountains save it from the cold wind. On the other hand, on too hot days, the increased humidity coming from the sea helps the plants.

Flowers cover the cersis completely, they bloom even on the trunk.

Not far from the purple splendor, there is a fountain framed by boxwood bushes.

The young leaves of boxwood smell wonderful and delight the eye with new greenery, but the caterpillars of the moth butterfly do not sleep here either, they devour the young shoots with the appetite of three fat men. Let's hope that the park workers will be able to expel this misfortune at least from their territory.

In winter, early and spring, the fountain does not work, but tourist season it must be included.

Fountain in the park "Southern Cultures"

Many different in style, but equally charming corners of the park attract not only tourists here, local residents also quite often come to the "Southern Cultures" to relax and even spend one of the most important days in their lives here.

If you want to do beautiful pictures nature, then Southern Cultures Park in Sochi is the best place for it. Pick a nice day and shoot before or after lunch so that the midday sun doesn't overpower your shots.

Even dropped bright camellia petals look very beautiful in green grass.

If you set out to photograph each flowering plant, then a tour of the Southern Cultures Park can drag on for a whole day. Therefore, it is worth taking sandwiches with you and drinking water, because in grocery store, which is located exactly opposite the entrance to the park, you should only go in as a last resort, because it is expensive here and the saleswoman is rude when you explain to her that the brisket is not a chicken breast, but a product of their pork.

You can have a bite to eat on a bench, a bench or in a gazebo - there are not very many such recreation areas along the paths in the center of the park, but there are plenty of them in the spacious alleys.

Bench near the stairs

Spacious Walk of Fame

For this alley and eucalyptus grove, local residents have been busy for several years - these two sections were withdrawn from the park in unfavorable times - as a result, the territory was returned, and, fortunately, the park itself was not sold to anyone.

Walk of Fame in the park "Southern Cultures"

Some visitors rest sitting on this fallen tree.

You can also sit on one of the benches by the pond, next to the blooming magnolia.

In addition to flowering trees, the pond is also attractive for its inhabitants - ducks, black and white swans, small nimble turtles and large solid turtles. True, when these photographs were taken, it was rather cool outside and all living creatures hid in their warm dwellings, and the black swan, importantly pacing near his house in the middle of the lake, was so inaccessible that I had to be content with just this frame

But the pond itself is good in any weather.

The banks of the pond were reinforced with gabions

From the caretaker's house opens gorgeous view to swan island.

Having passed along the snow-white bridge or, if you are with a stroller, bypassing the pond along the path, you can get from one side to the other.

Bridge across the pond in the park "Southern Cultures"

The architectural forms of bridges, flights of stairs and balustrades were not just repaired, they were restored from old photographs. Now they look new, but at the same time they retain the style of the beginning of the last century. For example, a layer of tiles was left untouched at the restored Cypress Staircase. This is how they do it in European cities- so that tourists are not misled by the reconstruction, a part of the old cladding is left on the buildings, which makes it clear that this is an ancient object.

All flights of stairs in the park look very elegant.

The balustrades are snow-white to match the stairs, decorated with beautiful flowerpots, which in summer are filled with bright flowering plants.

But in the spring, while the flowerpots are empty, in Southern cultures you can admire the color of spring trees and shrubs: magnolias, sakuras, quinces, camellias and other plants easily replace summer flower beds.

Particularly important areas of the park are decorated with flowers almost all year round.

Monument to the creator of the park "Southern Cultures". The authors of the bronze bust are Alexander Butaev and Vyacheslav Zvonov from Sochi.

Next to the bust of the founder of the "Southern Cultures" (not far from the entrance) there is an alley with many wooden sculptures made by the park workers. Perhaps they are quite peculiar, but you must admit they are not without some charm and originality.

This wooden sculpture especially memorable

If you walk not only in a big circle, but also turn onto paths emerging from behind the bushes, then you can wander for quite some time among the magnificent rare plants who managed to save the Southern Cultures Park in Sochi.

Southern cultures ADDRESS

In hard times, the park lost a major part of its land, and all navigation systems still lead tourists along an already non-existent route - they offer to turn off where there is no turn or turn right on a solid one, and eventually lead to some kind of new building. That is, in this case, you should not follow the instructions of the Internet assistant. The park has only one entrance left and it is located on Tulip Street. The navigator will lead there only if you specify the destination Nagorny dead end, 13. This is the address of the territory that is located across the fence from the Southern Cultures park, and for some reason there is no address near the park itself.

It will be much easier to find the park at the address of the neighboring site.

IN Southern Cultures Park We ended up in Adler, one might say, by accident. At the time we were on a bus to Sochi, and the driver at one of the stops loudly asked: “Southern cultures - is anyone getting off?” No one came out, and I immediately got into the Internet - what kind of Southern cultures are they.

It turned out that this is an arboretum with more than a century of history, and the reviews about it were the best.

We planned to go to the famous Sochi arboretum, but, having learned that we had “our own” arboretum nearby, we changed our plans and went to the Southern Cultures park in Adler.

How to get to the Southern Cultures Park

Lots of stops near the park scheduled buses, following the route Adler - Sochi: 124s, 125s, 134, 100.

We sat down near the railway station Olympic Park” at 124s and literally 15 minutes later we were already getting off at the “Southern Cultures” stop.

However, everything turned out to be not so simple. As it is very customary for us to get into a good place, you need to tighten up a bit.

From the highway I had to walk for another 10 minutes towards the sea along the road with quite active traffic, and go along the side of the road, since the sidewalk is not provided.

Opening hours and ticket prices

But here we are in front of the gate with the inscription "Southern Cultures".

The price of a ticket to the park is 250 rubles. Children 7-14 years old go for 120 rubles, younger ones - for free.

The park is open seven days a week, from 9 to 19 (opening hours depend on the time of year).

The official website of the Southern Cultures Park is http://park-yuzhnye-kultury.ru/

We buy tickets and go through the turnstile.

History of the park

The park begins with a palm avenue,

at the end of which there is a monument to the founder of the park, Daniil Vasilyevich Drachevsky. He was an active man who achieved success both in the military field and in the public service. He rose to the rank of major general, was appointed mayor of the city of Rostov-on-Don, and then - of St. Petersburg.

In 1909, the capital's mayor bought the estate "Random" in Adler. At that time, many people with means bought land on Black Sea coast and built houses around which they laid out parks with exotic plants. For example, Khludov in Sochi (now Riviera Park), Prince of Oldenburg in Gagra.

The park was designed by the landscape architect A.E. Regel, and the local gardener (Czech by origin) R.K. Skryvanek directly created the park. For two years, from 1910-1912, a magnificent landscape park was laid out.

In April 1918, Drachevsky, the hero of Plevna, was shot, and the Sluchaynoye state farm was set up in his estate. In 1929, the state farm was named "Southern Cultures".

At the end of the 30s, the state farm park was replenished with exotic plants from Far East and Japan. And in the 50s, a eucalyptus grove was planted in it.

In the 90s, the Southern Cultures park was in a deplorable state. But in last years Finally, funds were found to equip it. The park was put in order, and now it is a very pleasant place. May God continue to prosper and delight visitors with its beauty.

Arrangement of the park "Southern Cultures"

The park consists of two parts: upper and lower. The upper step is small, cut by winding paths.

Two staircases lead to the lower part of the park.

lower park begins with a large pond, behind which the Small parterre is laid out, turning into the Big parterre. A small lake stretches along the parterres, through which a stream passes.

Along the stream, along the alley, you can reach the sea.

Walk in the park

Upper park

I must say right away that we were in the park in early March and did not expect to see the lush flowering of plants at all.

And, it is true, at first the Southern Cultures Park seemed quite ordinary to us. Near the entrance, neighboring houses come close to him.

However, very soon we realized that it was not in vain that we came here. And in March there was something to see.

Crimson chinensis was just about to bloom in full force

But the Japanese quince was in full bloom

Opened its tender magnolia buds

Among the rows of ornamental cabbages, tulips made their way here and there.

The flowerbeds were planted with primroses and pansies

There are neat paths in the park.

The upper park ends with an observation deck with a balustrade

On the stairs, decorated with flowerpots, we go down to the lower park.

On the descent, you can relax on a bench among the bamboos.

lower park

Pond

Having descended into the Lower Park, we found ourselves in front of the water surface of a large pond stretched across the slope. Swans, ducks and geese swam across the pond.

The embankment is decorated with flowerpots, and openwork white bridges are thrown from coast to coast.

The black swan swims to its swan house

Parterres Small and Large

Behind the pond begins the Small Parterre - a regular park.

This white gazebo in the photo above is the only thing that disappointed us in this park. gone heavy rain, and we hoped to hide from him in the gazebo. However, coming closer, they found that there was nothing to hide under. But nearby there was a tree with a dense crown, under which we waited out the rain.

A dense wall was a bamboo forest

Bloomed camellia, magnolia, mimosa (which is actually not a mimosa, but a whitened acacia, the Mimosa family)

Acacia bleached

Along a long alley we reached a fence, behind which ships could be seen. In summer, the gates are probably open here, and you can go out to the sea. Then it would be possible, after visiting the park, to walk along the coast to the hotel (to our "" from here - about 4 km).

But since the entrance and exit of the park in our time was only in one place - from the upper park, we had to go back, however, by a different road.

Stream (which is about to flow into the sea)

Eucalyptus grove: some of the trunks are still in the bark, some have already shed it. Eucalyptus trees grow very fast.

Water tower

Lake

We go out to the lake - perhaps most romantic place parka.

Here again - a balustrade and flowerpots. Steps down to the water

Watching the swan couple for some time

Water hen on the path

Flees from all legs

After passing through a large parterre, we approach big pond on the other side

Crossing the pond on the bridge

Already on another staircase we go up to the Upper Park

A walk through the park "Southern Cultures" took us about two hours. We walked slowly, admiring and taking pictures, waiting for 15 minutes to rain. Maybe an hour is enough for someone.

The impressions from the park were wonderful. I think you can come here at any time of the year - every time it will be different.

I went to the Southern Cultures Park right after, not far from there. Wonderful place to be in nature and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. If I moved to live in Sochi, then I settled somewhere in this area, the ideal location: a park with trees, a not crowded beach, Olympic venues(you can ride a bike and rollerblade there), the road to. Okay, let's talk about the park itself.

Impression

This park is part of In the opinion of the layman, there are much fewer outlandish plants, so I would regard it simply as nice park. Moreover, there are very few signs with the names of plants, and the price allows you to come here often, like in a regular park. The territory occupies 11 hectares, you can walk around them slowly in an hour, or even less if you do not walk in circles. There are only two levels, upper and lower, I went from the upper one (it is small) and thought that this was the whole park, but it turned out that the main part was precisely the lower one. Only now work is going on there, so some of the paths are not comfortable for baby carriages because of the gravel that has not yet been rolled, there are open wells, workers walk, it is not possible to go everywhere. In October 2015, they told me that they should finish by the new year. The park promises to be even prettier than it is now, look at the photo.

IN Lately I always try to visit the arboretums, in my opinion - this is the best city attraction. I like to walk along the paths of the park and look at plants that are not quite familiar to the eye. However, you should not expect anything special, especially if you are indifferent to nature.

Historical reference

The Southern Cultures Park is located in Adler, near the confluence of the Mzymta River into the Black Sea. At the beginning of the 20th century, there was the estate of General Drachevsky, for whom the landscape architect Regel created a project for a beautiful landscape park with a regular parterre in the depths, ponds, stairs, alleys straight as an arrow and a network of paths. The regular and landscape parts of the park, located on different height relative to sea level, separated by a system of ponds. Coniferous and deciduous trees, shrubs, bamboos, palm trees and others grow in groups in different areas of the park. exotic species trees. The park also has alleys of Himalayan cedar, fir, eucalyptus. On the pond of the park there are islands connected by bridges.

After the revolution, the estate was nationalized. In 1920, the park became part of the Randomnoye state farm, and a few years later it was given the name "Southern Cultures". In the 1930s, Professor Artsybashev brought from different Eastern countries plants that have replenished the collection of decorative exotics of the park: Japanese cherry, finger maples, camellias, rhododendrons. In the 1950s, a eucalyptus alley appeared in the park. Later, little was done in the park, it fell into disrepair, some trees died. The park has been hit twice by tornadoes. Now the park occupies about 11 hectares of land. In November 2008, its reconstruction began. Restoration work is underway in the park right now, after which the park will become much more convenient and attractive for walking.

The Southern Cultures Park is the oldest park in our country. Currently, its age is over 100 (one hundred) years. "Southern Cultures" is a wonderful example of park building that combines landscape design with regular style. The park is on a par with and famous.

The history of the park goes back to the end of the 19th century, when the royal treasury sold the lands of the Sochi Black Sea region to private capital in order to develop the region. The area from the banks of the Mzymta River to the Psou River in the amount of 656 (six hundred fifty-six) acres was donated by the Emperor of Russia to Maria Ivanovna Gukker, the widow of a retired general of the tsarist army. Being a zealous mistress, Maria Alexandrovna in 1895 allocated 3 (three) acres for the establishment of a nursery of ornamental crops on her lands. It was this nursery that became the basis of the Southern Cultures park.

At that time, the establishment of nurseries was a profitable business. Many landowners set up such agrarian oases. The nursery of N.N. Shipov in Uch-Dere had an area of 1.8 acres, the nursery of N.A. Kostarev "Areda" near the settlement of Sochi - 2 (two) acres, the nursery of S.N. two tenths) tithes.

Blooming leafless Kubus magnolia

But back to Southern Cultures. On the lands of the M.I. Gukker nursery, a local gardener-practitioner, former director of the Sochi experimental station, Reingold Johannovich Garbe, with the help of the Czech gardener Roman Karlovich Skrivanik, is setting up a nursery of ornamental crops. From this nursery, seedlings of exotic plants spread all over the Sochi coast.

In 1902, on the basis of the M.I. Gukker nursery, an alley of tulip trees was laid, grown from the seeds of the famous Leran Rayevsky.

1909 - the estate of M.I. Gukker passes into the hands of Daniil Vasilyevich Drachevsky.

Daniil Vasilievich Drachevsky

Daniil Vasilievich Drachevsky (1858 - 1918) - the mayor of St. Petersburg, an outstanding political figure who traces his roots to a Kyiv noble family.

D.V.Drachesvsky received an excellent military education at the Kyiv Vladimir Military Gymnasium and the 2nd Konstantinovsky Military School, the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff. He was a member of the Russian-Turkish company of 1877-1878 in the artillery brigade. He was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV degree with swords and a bow.

In 1903, he was a member of the commission for the connection of the Finnish and Russian railways, and later headed the railways in Finland.

In 1907-1914 he was the mayor of St. Petersburg. The years of his mayorship are a stage of cultural and economic growth of the city's well-being. The improvement of embankments, the installation of water pipes, the construction of bridges and the electrification of tram lines, the opening of hotels, the erection of monuments and the foundation of museums, the foundation of factories (machine-building, flour-grinding, thread), the establishment of the Union of Brewers of St. complete list deeds of Daniil Vasilievich Drachevsky as mayor.

In July 1914 he was removed from office. In 1915, a criminal case was initiated against him for embezzlement of 150 (one hundred and fifty) thousand rubles, which lasted until the February Revolution. He was taken out of the retinue of the Sovereign Emperor.

He died in 1918 near Adler during the civil war.

According to one version, Daniil Vasilyevich Drachevsky won his estate near Adler in cards. Therefore, the land was named - the estate "Random".

Daniil Vasilyevich never personally visited his estate, but devoted himself to caring for it Special attention. The project of the park was commissioned by Arnold Eduardovich Regel (1856 - 1917), the author of the unique book Graceful Gardening and Artistic Gardens, 1996, a leading park builder and garden designer. park art. Unfortunately, the designs of the park have not survived to this day, but the characteristic elements of the design of the park, the composition and elaboration of small details betray the hand of the master.

Park "Southern Cultures" after reconstruction in 2012. Restored small architectural forms, paths and flower beds

Park "Southern Cultures". Restored pond system

The park was created in record time between 1910 and 1912. In just 2 (two) years, a masterpiece of landscape gardening art appeared in the floodplain of the Mzymta River, combining landscape and landscape style with elements of a regular style. Arnold Eduardovich Regel favorably beat a 15 (fifteen) meters high hill protruding above the main area of the park, making a balcony on its top - observation deck on the territory adjacent to the park and the lower landscape part of the park. The system of ponds is advantageously combined with the main staircase-alleys of the park, descending from the balcony into the landscaped lower part of the park. The perpendicular, which forms the main alley and a string of ponds, visually divides the park into parterre and a balcony. It is the system of ponds that ends the classic regular parterre of the park. Behind the water surface towards the sea, the landscape areas of the park begin.

The authors of the park sought to give the visitor the impression (illusion) of a large tree massif. For this, coniferous plants with different crown shades from dark green to light gray-silver or bluish were used in the organization of the park's green spaces. Several rows of coniferous trees along the boundaries of the park ensured the protection of the territory from the penetration of cold air masses and created the impression of a vast territory.

The seedlings for the park were provided by the Sank-Petersburg nursery of His Imperial Highness and the nursery of Prince Oldenbuzhsky from Gagra and were planted in the park by dendrologist R.K. Skrivalnik.

The picturesqueness of the park was created by a subtle combination of plants. Contrasting groups were rare. Landscape pictures were replaced in the alleys of the park very intensively. A collection of 370 (three hundred and seventy) species of rare plants was collected on the territory of the park.

1919 - the estate "Random" after the Great October Socialist Revolution was nationalized and the state farm "Random" was created on the lands of the estate. The lands of the collective farm were transferred from one department to another, the park fell into disrepair, many valuable tree species were lost. The main activity of the state farm was the cultivation of vegetables. They forgot about the park. Weak attempts to replenish the lost trees were carried out without a system, as a result, the unique design of the park was distorted.

1935 - "Random" came under the jurisdiction of the Main Directorate of Subtropical Cultures of the People's Commissariat of Agriculture of the USSR and received its modern name"Southern Cultures".

1936 - dendrologist F.S. Pilipenko conducts an inventory of the park's tree fund. According to F.S. Pilipenko, the collection of the park consisted of 5193 (five thousand one hundred and ninety-three) trees and shrubs, amounting to 324 (three hundred and twenty-four) species and 187 (one hundred and eighty-seven) varieties and forms.

1938 - 1939 - the development of a plan for the reconstruction of the park, which assumed an increase in the area of \u200b\u200bthe park to 20 (twenty) hectares, but the Great Patriotic War. On an area of 4.6 hectares, under the guidance of Professor Artsybashev, a large collection of East Asian plants was planted, received as a present for the construction of the East China railway. The concept of the park has not changed. A smooth transition from coniferous to deciduous species has been preserved. The park was enriched with an alley of sakura, dividing it into two almost equal halves.

During the Second World War, the employees of the collective farm "Southern Cultures" fought on the fronts, a memorial stela located to the left of the main alley of the park tells about their heroic deed to the visitors of the park.

Stella in the park "Southern Cultures", dedicated to the years of the Second World War

In the 1950s, a eucalyptus alley was planted on the territory of the Southern Cultures park.

In the post-Soviet period, Southern Cultures fell into disrepair. The nature of the park has become wild jungle. A unique case of dumping eucalyptus trees was discovered on the eucalyptus alley. Young sprouts make their way through the brambles. In the early 2000s, two terrible tornadoes hit the park, uprooted trees, destroyed architectural forms and broken branches of giant sequoias were a terrifying sight. After some time, there was a self-capture of part of the park territory local residents. The area of the park has been significantly reduced.

2008 was marked by an attempt to restore the Southern Cultures park. Works were carried out to clear paths from self-seeding, benches were installed and large-leaved trees were planted. Due to poor advertising, this did not increase the number of visitors to the park. Due to the fact that the park employees did not receive a salary for months and held a series of strikes, the park fell into disrepair again.

The park received its second birth in the year of its 110 (one hundred and ten) anniversary. In 2012, Southern Cultures became part of the Sochi Arboretum (Sochi national park). The park administration carried out work on clearing the territory, restoring landscaping elements and large-scale advertising campaigns, installing information stands and signs. At present, the park "Southern Cultures" presents its visitors with a wonderful example of landscape-regular park construction and attracts tourists visiting the city of Sochi with the beauty of its alleys and the shady crowns of ancient trees.

The city is located, which arose approximately 400 years ago. Its history is no less interesting than the history of ancient settlements on the territory Krasnodar Territory. We are talking about Adler - a resort rich in historical and natural monuments. In today's article we will talk about one of the attractions of the city - the park "Southern Cultures".

Sochi was a favorite city of Russian nobles. In the 19th century, ministers, tsarist officials, and bankers actively bought land here. Daniil Drachevsky, a general and a well-known statesman, also loved these places. The Southern Cultures park appeared in Sochi thanks to this man.

Daniel Drachevsky

He was born in the Chernigov province in 1858. Graduated from military high school. Participated in the Russian-Turkish war. Drachevsky made a brilliant military career, and in 1907 he took the post of mayor of St. Petersburg. The general did a lot to improve northern capital, but he liked southern landscapes rather than Petersburg ones. In Adler, he acquired an estate, here he decided to set up a park, for which he attracted the best specialists in Russia.

The idea to create a corner of exotic plants in Sochi came to Drachevsky in 1910. After five years, the general was arraigned on charges of embezzlement of a large sum from state budget. Perhaps the estate in Adler has nothing to do with this case. Drachevsky died in 1918. He, like many Russian nobles, fell victim to the "Red Terror".

Arnold Regel

Drachevsky entrusted the creation of the park to a well-known gardener and dendrologist. Arnold Regel was an engineer, most devoted his life to landscape architecture. At the end of the 19th century, he founded a company that planned private gardens. And in 1910, Regel designed a park called Random. This was the order of General Drachevsky. At the mouth of the Mzymta, three kilometers from Adler, a unique natural monument, which was subsequently renamed Southern Cultures. The park in Sochi, whose photo was often decorated with Soviet postcards depicting the sights of the country's main resort, after the revolution, like many other objects, was nationalized.

From the history of the park

So, Drachevsky bought land in Adler and ordered the creation of a project for the future park to the best landscape architect in the country. It is noteworthy that Regel was working in St. Petersburg at that time. Being two thousand kilometers from Adler, he led the process of building the park. Regel requested data on the terrain, soil composition, collected information about the state of the climate. The architect's idea was embodied by Roman Skrivanek, a gardener of Czech origin, a native of Adler.

The Southern Cultures park in Sochi was built in record time - in just two years. In 1912, Drachevsky was able to inspect his own possessions with a sense of complete satisfaction. It was a real masterpiece of gardening art.

During the first five years, more than 700 species of rare plants were collected. But a revolution happened. The new government was not up to the park and other Sochi attractions. They shot not only the general, but also the masters of park art. On the territory where the picturesque park was laid out, a state farm appeared. Among the exotic plants, vegetables and fruits common to Russia were now more and more common.

In the mid-thirties, the authorities finally remembered the park built on the site of the former noble estate. The territory was expanded, a new collection of East Asian plants was planted, which were received as payment for assistance in construction of the Chinese Eastern Railway roads. At the end of the thirties, the Southern Cultures park became the main supplier of exotic flowers, plants and shrubs not only for the Krasnodar Territory, but for the whole country.

In the fifties, a new eucalyptus alley appeared in the park. It was the last major planting in the twentieth century. After the collapse Soviet Union The park was slowly falling into disrepair. By the end of the nineties, he was already in a deplorable state, in which tornadoes also played a significant role. The "Southern Cultures" survived, largely due to the selfless work of the park's employees. After all, experts looked after exotic plants, no matter what.

According to reviews, the Southern Cultures park in Sochi is in excellent condition today. Reconstruction began in 2008. Five years later, Southern Cultures became an affiliate of the park. Today it is included in the list of the main attractions of the Adler region.
