How to choose a tent for heavy rain. Which tent is right for you? Tents for water trips

gable
Gable tents of the “House” type are already fading into the background, since, although they were convenient, from the point of view of the fact that you could not carry racks with you, but find them in the forest using sticks and branches of a certain length. Well, as a rule, they were single-layer (awning and tent were one), which speeded up the installation, which is not unimportant in the rain. But still, this form is inferior to the tented ones in many respects.
Firstly, this is far from always convenient, due to the time spent looking for suitable sticks.

And secondly, the camp is not always set up next to the forest.
And the weight of these tents is not humane, if you take canvas ones. Although now there are such tents made of lightweight materials. But still, the design of the new models described below is much more convenient.

Tent or hemisphere
This form of tent is now one of the most common, due to its structural advantages. It consists of two or more arcs crossed with each other, thereby creating a dome over the bed. Such structures are resistant to wind, sometimes even hurricane. And in the mountains, almost any wind can be considered a hurricane. 20-25 meters per second is far from the limit.

Also a plus is the pitched roof of the tent on all sides, which are provided for by the design. That is, flexible arcs stretch the awning of the tent so much that if the material of the tent is of high quality (more on this later), then drops of water simply “spring” from it. In short, there is simply nowhere for water to stagnate.
You can highlight the comparative speed of assembly of such tents. As a rule, they have 2-4 arcs. And additional arcs for the vestibule, if provided. There are also expensive special tourist or "trekking" tents that use up to 4-5 poles only per frame, with bizarre bends and crosshairs. They are placed no longer, but create additional resistance and rigidity to the wind.
In general, this design, to one degree or another, will be the most successful when combining the speed and ease of assembly and the weight of the entire structure. This is evidenced by the fact that manufacturers: from Chinese to serious tourist holdings, still use the tent structure even in new models.
Moreover, it should be noted separately that such a design is used not only in small tents, such as tourist ones, but also in camping ones, as well as in large tents, which can rightly be called small houses.

Hangar type or semi-barrel
This type of shape is typically used in camping tents. That is, in large tents for multi-day parking. This is due to the fact that constructively in such a tent much more space than in other forms and types. Also a plus is the resistance of such a design to wind and precipitation, not much worse than in tented ones.

This design allows you to make tents with large vestibules and rooms. In some models, you can even see the corridor type of execution - that is, the tents are located on one or two sides of the semi-barrel, and in the middle there is a large corridor.

Tourist
Tourist tents should be understood as tents with a capacity of 1 to 4 people. They are mainly used by backpackers. On hikes lasting from 2 days. They are relatively light, compact and easy and quick to put in place. The place in them is strictly limited to sleeping places and sometimes they have a vestibule for backpacks. They can also be safely used for ordinary picnics, when there are no restrictions in terms of the health of the tent "guests". That is, in any case, these tents are low and it will be impossible to enter them calmly in full growth.

Dressing and undressing will be difficult. Roughly speaking, you can imagine this as changing clothes while lying on the bed.
You can call such tents "medium special". That is, their main task is to shelter you from the rain and let you sleep peacefully in relatively bad weather. And also, do not pull the backpack off much by the weight and volume of the package. But there will be no comfortable accommodation for a long time.
In shape, they are divided mainly into two types: gable and tent (hemisphere).
There are also half-barrels and other shapes that are not defined in our review, but these are rather exceptions.
Such tents are suitable: for hiking / water / horse / and other tourists, fishermen, young weekend companies.

camping
Camping tents are large tents for multi-day camping trips. In fact, many models of camping tents are enlarged tourist tents with a large vestibule. That is, the tent itself or the bed is an ordinary tent with a capacity of 2-4 people, slightly increased in height. And on top of this tent there is already a large awning, which is also enlarged by a large vestibule.

In modern models of camping tents, the tents themselves, we will call them sleeping places, are attached from the inside to the arcs or poles of the tent using hooks. The so-called "hinged" tents. And the awning itself is stretched from above. Which is convenient if you need to wash, clean or dry the inner tent (berth), you can simply remove it and then put it back in place without affecting the main frame-tent itself, and without disassembling it ..

Structurally, camping tents are divided into two main types.
1) With tarpaulin mounts on top of the poles or poles of the tarp under the tarpaulin
2) And the same when the arches or posts are pulled through special pockets on the outside of the awning.

Kitchen tents
Various modifications of camping shawls are presented. They can have up to 8 rooms. Standard models can be found in this form: one 4-seater tent + a large vestibule on one side. Two 2-3-4-person tents opposite each other + a large vestibule in the middle.

Three 2-person tents are located in a "star". In the center of the star is a large vestibule. And two 4-seater tents next to each other, having one common wall + a large vestibule in the form of a hangar.

Camping tents-transformers
This is a tent that can be additionally equipped with removable rooms and vestibules. Those. to be without a vestibule - just a tent and with a vestibule, if necessary. And if there is a replenishment in the family or, for example, additional places are needed for a trip, then you can always buy an additional part for the tent: be it a kitchen, an enlarged vestibule or an additional tent. The bottom line is that the manufacturer has provided special mounts for these extras. accessories and parts to the main frame. It can be zippers or branded fasteners. In any case, the whole tent will look and function holistically.

The rooms in them are arranged in such a way that, unlike tourist rooms, you can safely put special camping folding beds there. And sleep in total comfort. Which is very suitable for older tourists and people with back problems.
Such tents are convenient for large families with many children. In fact, they are a multi-room apartment in nature. With kitchens, sleeping quarters, corridor and play area. With its comparative high price such tents come out cheaper than one vacation for the whole family in a boarding house. And they serve, as a rule, for a very, very long time, with proper care.
It is also impossible not to note all kinds of accessories inside such tents. They are presented in the form of all kinds of pockets on the sides of tents and vestibules, designed for all sorts of little things: hooks for hanging lanterns and other things. There are a huge number of windows and mosquito nets on the "doors". Some models are even equipped with a foot mat before entering the tent.

Tents with built-in lighting system
You just need to insert the batteries into a special compartment inside the scarf and in each room of the scarf you can turn on the light using special switches. Without thinking about where you put the next flashlight. Or how many flashlights and batteries it takes to put them in every room.

In general, camping tents are designed for large companies and families who like to travel by car to remote corners of their country and abroad. Such tents are suitable: for family car tourists, fishermen leaving for remote areas for multi-day fishing, relatively older tourists.

Special

Under special tents it is necessary to understand an extreme series of tents created especially for difficult conditions. As a rule, they are created for traveling to the highlands. For low temperature conditions. For spending the night on the rocks in suspension, as well as for special units of the armies.

extreme
And so, "extreme" tents are intended for hikes of a high category of complexity, as well as for climbers. These are the strongest, lightest, most reliable and, of course, the most expensive tents. Their design differs little from tourist ones, with the exception of the materials used in their manufacture and execution. Such tents must be resistant to the present hurricane wind on the tops of the mountains. They can stand without getting wet for a week under the heaviest downpour. Withstand 50 degree frost and not let the tourist freeze inside.

And also not to tear, not to burn, and in no way let down a tourist. One of the striking features is the bright coloring. This may seem unimportant. But this was done on purpose, so that in case of a search for a group or just a snowfall, they could quickly find a tent. By the way, all extreme equipment has the same bright colors.
Such tents are suitable: for extreme tourists, climbers and hiking-mountain tourists for hikes of a high category of complexity.

Assault
Assault tents are the smallest of any series. These are tents created for special units of troops and easy moves. Their task is to prevent a soldier or tourist from freezing or getting wet in difficult conditions. As a rule, these tents are single-layer, which reduces bulk and weight. It also speeds up assembly / disassembly. They are usually designed for one person.

Such tents are suitable for: fishermen, military and just single travelers.

car tents

This type of tent is made specifically for motorists. They are an inseparable part with a trailer or car roof rack.

Scythian
Representing a full-fledged large, quickly collapsible tent attached to a special trailer that could be transported by car. It is put quickly, the rigidity of the berths is due to the fact that they lie on the trailer. That is, it turned out to be a full bed. Comfortable and angry.

But their cost is so high that it is sometimes cheaper to buy the most expensive camping tent and a new trailer. Than all this together. Now technology has moved on. And lovers of off-road vehicles, namely jeeps, install forwarding racks on the roof of the car. And in order not to waste time on assembling and disassembling tents in their standard manifestation, they attach special tents directly to this trunk. Dismantling such a tent takes a minimum of time, and the benefits are obvious.

Tent on the trunk

First, it's safety. Wild animals and crawling insects with reptiles will not attack, since you are at least 2 meters from the ground.
Secondly, ease of assembly / disassembly. Also on such tents there are additional vestibules and other accessories. But the cost of such tents is now going through the roof.

Quick assembly
A small "mansion" in all the variety of tents are quickly prefabricated structures. Such on this moment not so much. As a rule, they all belong to the patented technologies of a couple of three manufacturers. Without going into the names of brands, we will briefly describe what they are.

As a rule, this kind of tent refers to camping tents. There are models and small ones for one or two people, but there are fewer of them. And they cannot be called tourist, insofar as their dimensions or weight are not the most humane in order to carry them in a backpack. But the undoubted advantage of these tents over even the most advanced conventional assembly technologies is the speed of installation / disassembly.
Depending on the design, assembly and disassembly of the largest tents and marquees takes from 2 to 5 minutes. Time is taken to set up the tent without stretch marks. That is, in two minutes you will already have a ready-made frame with a tent inside, which will only have to be fixed with pegs and stretch marks.

Umbrella system
Such a system is mainly used in the production of winter tents. Its essence lies in the fact that, simply, simply, the tent is strung on a frame in the form of an umbrella. It opens, respectively, just like a regular umbrella. This is the fastest assembly scheme. But she has her downsides.
First, there is no floor in this kind of tents. Which is inconvenient in summer, as insects do not sleep. Secondly, the frame is heavy and voluminous. But for winter fishing, these tents are the perfect choice. Since the speed of assembly / disassembly comes to the fore.

And also the floor is just not needed there. Plus, all these tents are equipped with snow skirts, which makes it possible to dig into the snow and heat loss will be minimal. And special ventilation windows in some models will not let you burn out if heating from burners is used.
The second technology is flexible arc design. That is, the rounded arcs of the tent are folded into a figure eight into a round cover in just three or four movements. Moreover, the size of the tents can be very impressive.

New technology Rapidex
Its essence is that the arcs themselves have a broken mechanism with a spring and a plastic fastener, which snap into place in two movements and turn into a full-fledged frame.

Of course, quickly prefabricated tents are actively capturing the market with their convenience. But they have three disadvantages. This is the price, weight and dimensions. But you have to pay something for convenience.

Winter and summer tents
The only way to separate these concepts is the presence / absence of a snow skirt, and a conditional ventilation system. The exception was tents for extreme conditions.

Now there are models, even from inexpensive brands, which can rightly be called summer or winter. As well as super-special models for winter or summer from serious tourist holdings.

Traveling with a backpack on your back is becoming more and more popular these days. While some bask in hotels, relaxing on an all-inclusive basis, others choose a more difficult path.

Hiking or equestrian, on the plains or mountains, cycling or auto route - everyone chooses according to their abilities. But all of them are united by special requirements for equipment. How to choose a tent so that you can comfortably camp in the parking lot? This is one of the main questions.

Your route

You can choose a universal tent model, but ideally it should match the natural conditions of the area you are going to travel.

As a rule, professional tourists have well-formed requirements for their portable home, unlike amateurs who plan to get to the shore of the nearest lake.

Since choosing a tent that will suit absolutely everyone will not work, you will have to make reasonable compromises. Today there are tourist "havens" for a wide variety of travel types, climates and seasons.

That's not all, they differ depending on whether you have a mobile or stationary vacation. Having thought over the route well, taking an interest in the weather conditions of this area, you will easily understand how to choose a tent.

tourist tents

This category includes equipment for a variety of types of tourist recreation. For lovers of outdoor activities, it often becomes a second home. Such tents are used by lovers of rafting on fast rivers and a multi-day trip across the plains, fishermen, hunters and many others. Below we will separately consider tents for climbers.

Since it is not easy to choose a tourist tent, there are universal models for beginners. They feature a streamlined shape, upturned edges, special welded seams and rubberized fabric. These characteristics provide good resistance to wind and moisture, prevent the accumulation of water and snow on the roof, allow you to quickly leave the tent in extreme situation. Special fasteners-pockets make it possible even in bad weather to quickly put and disassemble it.

They are called universal, since choosing a tent for a family vacation, which provides comfortable accommodation for 4-5 people and at the same time has the characteristics of a professional one, is the ultimate dream of many tourists. A large amount of usable space is the main distinguishing feature of these models. Professional tents are mostly designed for one, maximum two people.

Long hiking or mountain trips are completely special world, only for true connoisseurs. You only have what is in your backpack, and if the tent is blown off by the wind or flooded with rain, then you are left practically without a roof over your head. At the same time, weight is extremely important, it should be no more than 1.2 kg (for a single tent). The structure itself must be rigid to protect from the wind. Next, we will consider how to choose a tourist tent, in terms of all the main characteristics.

Extreme tents

The more severe the conditions in which your trip will take place, the more requirements are put forward for equipment. First of all, you need to think about which tent to choose, for those who are going to conquer the peaks. high altitude above sea level, strong winds, frosts and snowfalls - in such conditions, your life may depend on the correct choice.

All high-altitude tents are usually divided into 2 types. Expeditionary ones are used for a special, so-called "Himalayan" style of ascent. On difficult and dangerous routes, tents are set up in the form of base and intermediate stationary camps throughout the ascent. They are quite heavy, as they have a rigid frame, a durable outer awning and a so-called "skirt" that will protect against blowing. Withstanding the onslaught of snow and strong winds, such structures can save people's lives when it is impossible to return to the base camp in bad weather.

The second option is more suitable for those who are going to conquer the mountains alone and are thinking about how to choose the right tent. Its advantages are small size and light weight. The strength of the assault tent is achieved through the use of high-tech materials.

Tents for the middle mountains

This is a large category that amateurs can find what they need mountain tourism, mountaineering and caravanning. These tents combine solidity and comfort, as well as relative mobility. Having the qualities of both expeditionary and assault models, they allow you to survive any vicissitudes of the route. Experienced tourists know how often the weather changes in mountainous areas. It can rain or snow several times in one day and warm the sun. In such conditions, it is important to keep the place to sleep dry. Before you buy a tent, you need to determine the maximum weight that you can afford. For hiking this figure does not exceed 2 kg.

camping tents

Until now, we have been talking about relaxing with a backpack on your back, but now we are moving on to a more convenient and comfortable option. Camping sites are specially prepared places, usually at large recreation centers, where it is allowed to put up tents. When you arrive at a place by private car or bus, you put cozy house and enjoy nature.

We will give basic guidelines on how to choose a camping tent. First of all, start from how many people will rest in it. Today on the market there are models for family holidays and corporate parties. They are much more comfortable compared to tourist ones, since we are not talking about saving space in a backpack and surviving in difficult conditions.

A camping tent is a complex structure of several rooms and a vestibule, each of which is closed with mosquito nets and cloth dampers. The Family Camping option is a whole house where you can move around at full height. Additional awnings are attached to it, protecting from rain, wind and the scorching sun. For those who are thinking about how to choose a tent for a large family with children, there is no better option. Its weight can exceed 15 kg, so it is not suitable for hiking.

Cabin is the second camping tent option. It is smaller in size, there is a division into several rooms and additional awnings. Finally, the Family Dome is the smallest tent in its class. A single space inside is designed for four people. Installing it is much easier and faster than previously described.

Tourist house shape

When you have decided on the specifics of your future vacation and have chosen one of the presented classes, you can proceed to a more detailed examination of the models. The quality of your rest will directly depend on their shape and size. The high height of the tent, as already mentioned, drastically reduces wind resistance, so for regions with increased storm danger, only the lowest models should be chosen. But in the forest zone, you can set the highest.

Speaking about how to choose a tent for a hike, we must not forget that they are single-layer and double-layer. If you are coming for a weekend getaway, all you need is protection from the sun, rain and insects. Then you can take a light single-layer model. Its disadvantage is the accumulation of condensate and poor ventilation. Two-layer models consist of a top tent and an inner tent made of breathable fabric. They are suitable for longer and more comfortable stays.

For reference: an assault tent for hiking in the mountains also has mesh windows to better remove condensation, otherwise you risk waking up surrounded by icicles. Such a model, despite its lightness and strength, is not suitable for relaxing on the plain.

Gable, or tent tents are usually single-layer models designed for 3-4 people. They are ideal for a beach holiday. You don’t have to think too much about how to choose a tent for relaxing on the sea - in the midst of the July heat, any model will do. They are fastened on stretch marks, they can have an additional awning to protect against rain. The canopy rises, creating an additional canopy under which you can safely sunbathe. Such tents are also used in simple hikes or as additional shelter at the base camp. In most respects, they lag behind everyone else.

Tunnel tents or "half-barrels" are spacious and fairly reliable structures. They consist of arcs that are installed parallel to each other. There may be 2, 3 or more. The design can also use a transverse arc, which makes it heavier, but prevents the awning from sagging. It does not withstand strong winds.

All kinds of "hemispheres" are the most reliable tents that can withstand enormous loads. They easily pass tests in a wind tunnel. The small living space can accommodate no more than two people. Since it is impossible to choose a tent for tourism without sacrificing comfort, the best option would be to stop at the "hemisphere".

For summer holiday on simple routes there are options mounted on one arc. More reliable ones consist of two crossed axles. Professional "winter" tents can be mounted on a frame of 6 or more arches. This makes it possible to install them on any surface without the use of stretch marks and at the same time provide good wind resistance. You can move them without dismantling if the new camp is located nearby.

Base of the tent - frame

This is the basis, the backbone, on which the service life of the entire structure depends. The main characteristics are lightness and strength. Today there are quite a lot of materials from which arcs are made. Plastic is often used. It is good for beach tents and models used for infrequent family outdoor activities. In high mountain conditions, under the influence of ultraviolet radiation, plastic quickly decomposes, the tent will not last even two seasons.

Aluminum is much more durable but weighs more. Today there is already an alternative material - fiberglass, which is superior in strength to a metal frame and saves space in a backpack. CFRP and Kevlar have good performance in terms of service life, but are still too expensive today.

Material

If the selected model is single-layer, then it must be waterproof, but at the same time let air through so that condensation does not form. The old tents used tarpaulin, which performed both functions equally poorly. Today, polyamide (nylon, kapron) is used. Such a material is very light and durable, but is destroyed by ultraviolet radiation, and also stretches and deforms when moisture enters. These tents are usually quite cheap.

Polyester fabrics (polyester, lavsan) are much more durable and resistant to sunlight, so designs with such an awning are more expensive. To measure the water resistance of a fabric, there is a special indicator, it can be from 600 to 10,000 mm.

If it reaches 1000 mm, then the fabric has a water-repellent property. The main thing in a tent is a dry floor, pay special attention to what fabric it is made of. An indicator of 4000 mm indicates optimal water resistance. The higher these numbers, the heavier the tent, so it's best to stick to the middle ground.

Special attention to seams

It is in these places that water begins to drip in the first place. Today, two seam processing technologies are used: gluing or boiling. When choosing a tent, be sure to tell the consultant what the specifics of your trips are. Price is not always an objective indicator.

Super expensive tent for high mountain climbing can even go with non-taped seams, because it is used above the rain zone. But on a hiking tent at the foot of the mountains, where it can rain several times a day, the seams should be as reliable as possible. To do this, they are made with lavsan threads and boiled with a waterproof tape. Today, there are sprays and aerosols that further increase the moisture resistance and reliability of the fabric.

Installation options

The first option: the frame is installed outside the awning and attached to it through special pockets. The inside of the tent is attached to the awning. The only negative is that even in dry weather you will not be able to install the structure without an awning and save time on this. The second option: the inner tent is suspended from the frame, on which the awning is attached. If you need reliable protection from wind and frequent rains, then choose the first option.

Rest near the water

The last topic left to cover is how to choose a fishing tent. It's so wonderful to do what you love, without denying yourself basic amenities! The first guidelines are the dimensions of the tent. The most popular are quadruple ones, they are well suited for the whole company, but if fishing is a purely individual matter for you, then choose a single one, besides, it can even be installed on board the boat.

The second thing that is required is good protection from rain and wind. If you go fishing by car rather than walking, then you can take a heavier and more impressive tent with a water column height of at least 4000 mm and an aluminum frame. There is another significant drawback of gatherings by the reservoir - a huge number of blood-sucking insects. Make sure you have a reliable mosquito net covering the canopy and windows of the tent.

Any consultant in the store will tell you how to choose a tourist tent, and only an experienced fisherman can tell you the features of gatherings with a fishing rod. If we talk about winter fishing, the problem of protection from icy wind and snow comes first. The second point is the speed of installation and dismantling. The simplest "hemisphere" can be assembled in a minute, and disassembled in 5, or simply transferred to a new hole.

This is true if you plan to fish, moving from place to place. By the way, it is for winter fishing that experienced anglers recommend buying 4-seater tents. Their six-beam designs are the most wind resistant. Inside the tent, you can install a folding chair and even boil tea on dry fuel. Fishing becomes just fabulous entertainment, an island of almost home comfort.

Many do not pay any attention to colors, considering it absolutely insignificant. However, ice fishing comes with some risks. Left on a breakaway ice floe, you will have more chances be noticed if you have a bright red or blue tent.

Summing up

As you can see, the question of how to choose a tent is very multifaceted. The answer depends on the characteristics of the region in which it will be used, the preferred time of the year, the specifics of hiking, the number of participants, the length of stay in it, as well as the method of transportation: backpack, bicycle, car. For each tourist today, you can choose exactly the tent that will be most suitable for his needs, so that the trip is filled with only positive moments.

A large abundance of types and manufacturers of tents leads to the fact that buyers most often cannot decide on the choice of a particular model, this can be easily seen by working as a sales assistant in tourist shop. It is this fact that led us to the decision to write this article, which will help buyers make the right choice when buying. We will consider all the available types of trekking tents. They fold compactly for easy carrying and are great for a short two-day hike.

Types of tents and their appointments

gable tents with an awning. This type is a veteran of tourism

Plus - insignificant price.

Minus - Installation requires a flat surface. It has low wind resistance and is difficult to install. Its frame consists of two vertical racks and crossbars, respectively, the stability of the structure decreases and at least two people are required for installation. It is necessary to stretch the stretch marks evenly so that there are no distortions. There is one entrance and exit.

Different elements of the tent and the nuances that you should pay attention to when buying:

  1. Awning. Is the most important ingredient tents, therefore, its choice must be approached with all responsibility, so that later there will be no negative consequences. The most common awning material is polyester. He has good value price - quality, but has a significant weight. The better option is nylon, impregnated with silicone, but it is more expensive than polyester. You also need to carefully examine the seams, how they are glued, since the main leaks of the tents occur precisely because of poorly glued seams. The main characteristics of awnings are their resistance to stretching and water resistance. Each tent must be marked with its water resistance (PU) 2000 or 1000 mm of water column. This data indicates how much water pressure per square centimeter of fabric can withstand awning. If you find yourself in the zone of a strong continuous downpour, which will be accompanied by strong gusts of wind, then the indicators will be 1000-1500 PU may not be enough, so the optimal indicators will be 2000-4000 mm. But the manufacturers, unfortunately, do not indicate the degree of stretching of the material. If awning is made of poor-quality material, then soon stretches will form on it, which will lead to leaks, the types of “half-barrel” tents are most susceptible to this.
  2. Internal tent. An important quality of the tent should be good air exchange so that a person does not suffocate while inside. Naturally, the best option would be cotton fabric, but its price is too high, so we will focus on nylon or good polyester. There is no waterproof rating on it. It is desirable to have various pockets on the inner layer, for the convenience of using the tent, also, if there are openings for windows, then the presence of mosquito nets on them will improve your rest.
  3. Frame. Here the choice is between fiberglass and aluminum. Faberglass is inferior to aluminum in terms of durability, wind resistance and ease of repair in road conditions, since aluminum arcs are hollow, and fiberglass will be very problematic to repair on a hike.
  4. Bottom. The material for it must have a very high water resistance (from 4000 mm and above) in order to tent not soaked, as well as tear-resistant, so as not to break through the bottom of the uneven surface. If the material has the characteristic RipStop, then if a cut occurs in the fabric, the hole will not propagate further. The bottom should be connected to the side walls so that the edges are raised from the ground.

The number of types and modifications, manufacturers and brands of tents is increasing every year. You can also read an article about best tents for tourism on our website. If you don’t want to run into a low-quality manufacturer, then it’s better to stop at a trusted manufacturer and not worry that trouble will happen with your equipment and you will have to return. Since ancient times, the tent served as a dwelling for nomads and hunters. The tent was a portable dwelling constructed from canvas, animal skin, felt, mats, or other materials that were stretched over a frame or supported by poles or poles. One of the first historical documents about the sewing of tents was the letter of the Holy Apostle Paul, where he mentioned that, not wanting to be a burden for the early Christian churches, he earned his living by sewing

First of all, it must be said that there is no ideal tent suitable for everyone and for all occasions. It would be as fantastic as some kind of Ferrari that is suitable for everyone in the world, which is great to ride with the breeze, but at the same time with the capacity of a bus, the maneuverability of a tractor and consuming two drops of peanut butter a year. The same is true in the tourism world. Each person has his own requirements, his own ideas about how his stay on the island should look like.

Appointment By purpose, tents can be divided into three categories: extreme highlands, camping and trekking for midlands and plains. The industry produces tents for various types of travel, climatic zones, seasons, as well as mobile, semi-stationary and stationary outdoor recreation. Tourist tents according to their purpose can be classified into tents for highlands, for middle mountains for the plains. In each of these three categories there is a conditional division into upper, middle and low tents. This gradation depends on the materials used.

Let's start with the fact that the choice primarily depends on where and under what conditions you will use it. There is no doubt that a tent for rock climbing, water hiking and camping is as different as an elephant from a goat. Therefore, according to their intended purpose, it is convenient to divide them into three main groups. The first is extreme tents, designed specifically to survive in the most difficult conditions. It uses the most modern materials and technologies to achieve maximum strength,

The tent is your portable home during your camping trip. A properly chosen tent will protect you from bad weather, allow you to relax, and not fight the elements, shelter you in the heat and cold. Uncomfortable, blown by all the winds, the tent can turn your life in nature into a nightmare. Especially in places remote from the centers of civilization, where only a few feel at home. In addition, bad camping equipment is a source of no small danger. What considerations should

There are many types of tents, someone uses them for work, others need them for entertainment, others live in them permanently. The forefathers of tents can be considered various yurts, yarangas and wigwams that still exist. The first tents were made of wooden or bamboo arcs, and such improvised means as straw, animal skins were used as awnings, and later they began to use fabrics. Direct improvement of tents began only in the twentieth century. People

How to choose a tourist tent Among the huge variety of different shapes, sizes, capacity and water resistance, you want not to get lost and choose the one that is best suited for your trip. In order not to make a mistake and not regret a hasty choice during a hike, away from civilization, it is worth spending a few minutes and studying carefully the presented tents based on several factors. So, which is the best tent Let's try to figure it out point by point

A properly selected tent will serve you not just as a shelter from the weather, but as a real miniature dwelling for the duration of your voluntary retreat. It will protect you from wind, rain, cold, will give you the opportunity good rest even in very difficult weather conditions. Tents provide shelter for tourists around the world from deserts and jungles, to taiga, snows of the North and sky-high peaks. Let's immediately agree in this article, the information is calculated, first of all,

Assembling a typical two-layer tent c inner frame the most common type we have is done in five simple steps. We spread the inner tent on the ground. We assemble the arcs and insert them into the eyelets at the corners of the inner tent. The eyelets are the tailor's name for metal rings embedded in the fabric. We hang the ceiling of the inner tent by the hooks. At the same time, to make it easier and nothing

Tent material Tents and materials issued in different countries, by different manufacturers, are labeled quite differently. Moreover, you will not find two companies that would label fabrics in the same way. There is a complete mess in the numbers describing properties such as waterproofness, breathability of membrane materials, strength, weight. This is due to the use of data obtained from various tests conducted at different

Where does it come from We all know from childhood the effect when you breathe on a cold window, and it starts to fog up. Why does this happen Room air, having entered our lungs, is heated and saturated with water vapor to a relative humidity of 100, that is, it absorbs the maximum amount of water that it can carry at the current temperature. When exhaling, in contact with the cold surface of the glass, the air cools down, and its ability to retain water decreases sharply.

Single-layer and double-layer A typical modern tent consists of two layers of an inner tent made of thin breathable fabric and a waterproof awning. It would seem, why fence such a garden. Make a tent from a solid piece of waterproof material and you will be happy. But the fact is that when breathing, among other things, we constantly exhale water vapor, which actively condenses on the walls cooling down during the night. More on this here. The solution was found in

The tent is a temporary dwelling made of fabric, a quickly erected prefabricated structure designed to protect against adverse weather conditions and temporary accommodation and residence of people, work, household needs, as well as storage of various materials, property and equipment in the field. It is widely used for organizing temporary settlements by tourists, travelers, armed forces, as well as representatives of mobile professions soil scientists, archaeologists, geologists,

First of all, it is customary to keep the entrance to the inner tent permanently closed. If it's hot, only a mosquito net is left on the door, but when entering and leaving, it closes behind itself every time. The same at night and during the day. This is a rule of good taste among tourists. Then in the morning no one is shaking ants and other children of the forest out of the sleeping bag. When going to bed in the evening, it’s enough, after waiting until the last person gets into the tent, batten down the entrances and exits and with the help of a few slaps

Not only your rest in the conditions depends on the quality of the tent. wildlife, and the safety of all personal belongings that are inside. And besides them, you also have a backpack, a sleeping bag, a rug and other attributes of tourist life, which you cannot do without on a hike. Therefore, in order to protect all your traveling equipment from moisture and wind, it is important to choose a good, comfortable and reliable tent. What to look for when choosing a tent. Firstly,

Tents and materials produced in different countries, by different manufacturers, are labeled quite differently. Moreover, you will not find two companies that would label fabrics in the same way. The choice of tents from those currently provided by various manufacturers for the buyer's judgment is extremely large. Single-layer and double-layer tourist tents, frame and frameless, in the form of a tent, hemisphere or barrel. There are also models of automatic tents designed for one person, and real camping houses for the whole company, for easy trekking and long expeditions, all-season and specialized winter, just shelter tents, as well as tourist

They are not made at a space factory, so do-it-yourself tent repair is quite possible. We can talk about the breakdown of the arcs, the lock, the zipper, the divergence of the seams and the formation of holes burned, cut into the fabric. All options require separate consideration - here are instructions for repairing the awning bottom of the tent. Much in this case depends on the nature of the gap on the length of the edge on the load assumed on the edge of the hole on the direction of the load usually does not matter, since the tent

Method 1 neat We take out all the pegs. To make it easier to pull them out of the ground, you can pull on the loops into which they are inserted. We remove the awning and fold it in half, as shown in the picture. Then in half again. And roll it into a roll. We shake out any debris that has accumulated in the inner tent. We remove and fold the arcs. Putting up the inner tent. We remove

The composition of the repair kit As a rule, a repair kit with everything you need already comes with a new tent. At least, this is the rule of good taste, which most manufacturers adhere to. It includes a repair tube in case the frame breaks and a few self-adhesive patches to cover cuts, or just a couple of pieces of cloth and a tube of glue. The latter is preferable, why more on that below. If something is still missing,

A tent with an outer frame is assembled in much the same way as an inner frame tent. The only difference is that the awning and the inner tent are already fastened together with small lines and are placed immediately together. Similarly, we spread a set of tents on the ground with an inner tent attached to it. We collect arcs. We stretch the tent on the arcs in one of two ways, depending on which method was provided in the design by its manufacturer

Rain When it rains, it is best to set up a tent with an outer frame. Threw it to the ground, stretched it on arcs and you're done. Everything is dry inside. But with the more common intra-frame tents, everything is not so tragic either. First of all, if there is a group tent or some tree with a spreading crown, then the tent is assembled under it, and then it is simply transferred to Right place many modern tents, due to their flexible frame, keep their shape even without being

When parking on stones, there is simply nowhere to stick pegs, as a rule. And all sorts of options with their wedging and piling with cobblestones due to turbulence during the wind very often end with nightly hands-on work with the restoration of a ruined dwelling. So, as a rule, pegs are simply not taken on mountain trips to reduce weight. Instead, they take a coil of thin rope 2-4 mm in diameter. Its pieces of 1.5-2 m are tied to the ears, into which pegs were previously inserted.

When buying a new tent, the guys usually lie separately, in a bag with pegs. First of all, they must be tied to the appropriate loops on the awning. It is best to do this in the following way. We tie a loop at the end of the guy in mountaineering, such a knot is called a conductor. For example, strap something to a backpack or

The curtain closes with a separate zipper equipped with a large Velcro strap. Thus, ventilation will be maintained even when the moisture-proof curtains are completely closed. On the front end of the tent, the lower corners of the moisture-proof curtain are additionally glued to improve protection against oblique rain

Description: Tunnel tent for 3-3 people, made in the shape of a half-barrel and designed for use at positive air temperatures. A characteristic distinguishing feature of Tunnel 3 is a huge vestibule where you can hide bicycles and things of all the inhabitants of the tent from bad weather, and if necessary, use it as a place for cooking. The manufacturer paid great attention to the resistance of the tent structure to negative influences: a strong sling along the edge of the awning, additional reinforcement of the fabric in areas of increased load, sealing of the seams and flame retardant impregnation, which slows down the combustion process. In addition, the corners of the inner tent are made using seamless technology, which also increases the strength of the tent. The awning has a moisture protection index of 4000 mm, and the floor is -6000, which allows you to stay dry even in heavy rain. Of the "household amenities" at Tunnel 3, it should be noted 3 entrances equipped with a mosquito net, a ring for a lantern in the center of the ceiling, a folding shelf for small things and 6 pockets in the inner tent. Ventilation is provided by valves located at the ends of the tent, also equipped with a mosquito net. With its dimensions, the tent has a relatively low weight and good wind resistance, and also takes up little space when assembled. These are mainly trekking and extreme tents designed for one or two travelers. Camping tents are the heaviest, since such models are often designed for a group of 4-6 people or more. The weight of some models reaches 60 - 70 kg. These tents can accommodate up to 20 people (for details, see "Number of seats"). Windproof/snowproof skirt The presence of a protective skirt along the bottom edge of the tent. The skirt is a strip of fabric around the perimeter of the tent, which is adjacent directly to the ground. It can be either sewn or removable. The presence of a skirt is essential when using tents in the mountains, in winter or just when low temperatures . The skirt will not allow snow or rain to penetrate into the cracks formed by the edge of the tent and irregularities in the established place. Internal pockets The presence of internal pockets will allow you to organize the space inside the tent. Inner tent The presence of an inner tent, which in some cases can be installed separately from the awning. Models with an inner tent are usually called two-layer. The outer layer (awning) is waterproof and strong, protects from rain, and the inner layer is breathable and very light. Single-layer tents are lightweight and have a small volume when assembled. Their disadvantage is that condensate accumulates on the walls of the tent, while in two-layer drops they will roll down without penetrating into the living space. Water resistance of the tent (from 300 to 20000 mm w.st.) The maximum height of the water column that the tent awning can withstand. This parameter determines the water resistance of the material from which the tent is made. For areas with rare rains, tents with a water resistance rating of 500 - 3000 mm of water column are suitable. If the probability of rain is high, showers are possible, then it is advisable to choose tents with an awning water resistance of more than 3000 mm in. Art. The value of this parameter can sometimes reach up to 10,000 mm in. Art. Among the disadvantages of fabrics with high water resistance, one can note a relatively greater weight and high cost. Possibility of attaching a flashlight Availability of special hooks or loops for hanging a flashlight or lamp. Most often, such hooks are fixed in the upper central part of the tent. Geometry Some of its properties depend on the shape of the tent. The hemisphere resists the wind well, but has less living space compared to the semi-barrel. Typically, in such tents, the frame consists of two intersecting arcs. The half-barrel has a large interior space. In addition, usually a significant part of such a tent is reserved for a vestibule, which looks very attractive as base stations or for a long stay in nature. Gable and tent geometry are still used, but only in the production of very simple models or large tents (for expedition groups). In such a tent you can gather in a large company. Non-standard models - those in which the frame design can combine several types. For example, half-barrel and hemisphere are used to produce large two-room camping tents. Seam sealing Method for sealing the seams of a tent. Taped seams protect the tent from water leakage. Welded seams are very reliable and durable, as they are welded with a special tape. In addition, there are tents that do not have seam sealing. Basically, these are models of the lowest category. But there are also professional tents that don't need to be sealed simply because they will stand above the rain level (above the clouds). Pole diameter (from 0.0 to 30.0 mm) The size of the poles of the tent. Depending on the required characteristics, the arcs for the frame may have different diameters. Accordingly, the thicker the arcs, the more rigid they are, but at the same time less plastic. Sometimes arcs with different diameters are used. In such tents, the arcs that take on the main load are thicker, and the additional ones (to hold the shape or give greater stability) are somewhat thinner. Number of ventilation windows (from 1 to 12) The presence of several such windows in a camping tent will be highly desirable, since the size of the tents often allows you to cook food inside, boil water. Usually tents with several rooms (see "Number of rooms") have a separate ventilation system in each of them. Number of places (from 1 to 20) The maximum number of people that can simultaneously accommodate in a tent. Number of tambours (from 0 to 4) A tambour is a space separating a room from an exit. They are equipped with many modern models , but there are also tents without it. The tambour is usually the area between the inner tent (see "Inner tent") and the exit, which may also have a bottom. Small vestibules are used to store things, equipment. Inner tent material The name of the material from which the inner tent is made (see "Inner tent"). Nylon, produced in accordance with certain technologies (weaving, density, etc.), has the necessary strength and breathability. Polyester can also be used for inner tents. It has greater strength and wear resistance than nylon and is highly breathable. Cotton is rarely used in the manufacture of inner tents. This tent can be recommended to those who are allergic to synthetics. Among the advantages can also be noted low weight and low cost. But a tent made of such material must be thoroughly dried before storage, otherwise there is a possibility that the fabric will deteriorate. Bottom material The name of the material used to sew the bottom. Polyester is resistant to most acids and alkalis, to wear and deformation, which allows it to be widely used in the production of tent bottoms. Nylon is also often used in tent bottoms. In the production of materials, various materials processing technologies are often used. For example, Nylon Taffeta PU has a polyurethane treatment that allows it to withstand a water column pressure of 6000 mm (see "Water resistance of the bottom"). Reinforced polyethylene is mainly used for the production of the bottom of budget tents. Polyethylene has a higher specific gravity and is therefore used in the main production of camping tents (see "Intended Use"). Tarpaulin is also a good material for the bottom of tents. has a high margin of safety. PVC excludes thread connection, is a good refractory, moisture and wear-resistant material, therefore it is also often used in the manufacture of tents. Tarpaulin material The material used to make the tarpaulin of the tent. Polyester does not lose its strength when wet, tolerates ultraviolet radiation and sunlight well, and has high heat resistance. Tents made of this material have a longer service life compared to tents made of nylon. Nylon loses about 10-15% of its strength when wet, is more sensitive to ultraviolet radiation and sunlight - strength decreases over time. This material has less resistance to chemicals than polyester. Membrane fabric has two seemingly incompatible qualities: it "breathes" and at the same time has water-repellent properties. These properties are imparted to the material either by impregnation, which is applied to the fabric during production with high-temperature technology, or by the thinnest film that is glued or welded to the fabric. The combination of fabric + silicone gives tents made from this material significant advantages. Such tents have a high degree of UV resistance, which is a significant plus when used in the highlands. In addition, silicone-coated fabric is 2-3 times more durable than non-silicone coated fabrics. Subject to the rules of operation, the tent, the awning of which has a double-sided silicone coating, can last more than 10 years. Conventional tarpaulin is currently used quite rarely. The tarpaulin is heavy, but inexpensive. More often in production, tarpaulin is used as a solid base with additional coatings that improve its properties. Canopy The presence of a canopy in the design of the tent. In many camping tents, the rectangular part of the awning plays the role of a door, which can be unfastened and put on pegs, thus arranging an awning. Appointment Tourist tents according to their purpose can be classified into models for high mountains, middle mountains and plains. Tents for the highlands are considered extreme, and tents for the middle mountains and plains are divided into camping and trekking. Separately, you can select tents for fishing. Extreme tents are designed for mountain climbing and expeditions. The design of such a tent should be as rigid as possible in order to withstand the harsh conditions of the highlands (wind, snow). There are extreme tents for "Himalayan" and "Alpine" climbing styles. The Himalayan style involves the creation of several bases during the ascent, while in the Alpine style, stationary bases are not set up, and tents are carried with them. Camping tents are the most comfortable. They are intended for picnics, children's camps, campsites. Such models are often equipped with mosquito nets, adjustable ventilation holes, in addition, they may have several rooms, entrances, vestibules. Trekking tents are designed for hiking or cycling, where weight plays a significant role. Such tents must have high reliability and rigidity, because often such trips last for weeks. Fishing tents, as a rule, are not intended for overnight stays. In it you can hide from bad weather, relax. Typically, fishing tents are compact and light in weight. Fire-resistant impregnation The presence of a special impregnation that delays the spread of fire. To improve safety when using tents, some manufacturers impregnate the fabric with a composition that counteracts the spread of fire in case of accidental ignition. The slow spread of the fire will provide additional time to take action to fight it or get things out of the tent. Frame Type The type of frame provided by the tent design. A tent with an outer frame is more convenient to put up, and at the same time, the inner tent does not get wet, since the awning is put up first. The inner frame design is more difficult to set up, but allows you to set up an inner tent without an awning (outer tent). Tents in which there is no frame are stretched on two posts or on natural supports (trees, etc.). Reinforced corners Reinforced tent corners. The fabric from which the tent is made can tear at the points of greatest stress. To reinforce the corners, inserts made of durable fabric are used, sewn in a double layer or additional stitching with slings.

Triple camping dome tent. Article: 6155.3201 Places: 3 Weight: 9.1 kg Inner tent: yes Size: 310x240x195 cm Size in a case: 28x56 cm Number of entrances: 2 Poles: Fib 11mm Awning: Polyester 190T PU 2500 mm Bottom: Polyethylene 3000 mm Color: green Description Triple camping The KSL ROVER 3 tent is user-friendly and very easy to set up thanks to the well-thought-out design of three criss-cross poles, which give good stability even without braces. Durable polyester awning has excellent water resistance and does not allow water to pass through the seams sealed with a special tape. The bottom of the tent is made of polyethylene with a water resistance of 3000 mm. Art., so the tent is reliably protected from moisture and dampness from all sides. Inside the tent throughout your trip will be dry and comfortable. The tent has two entrances, one window, a large spacious vestibule, where a large number of things taken on a camping trip can easily fit. The inner tent (sleeping room) is attached to the already installed stretched outer tent, so if necessary, you can use the entire volume of the tent as a kitchen or dining room without a bed. The camping tent is well ventilated, while the outer awning reliably protects from wind and drafts, which often disturb tourists during hikes in spring or in autumn bad weather. The awning of the tent has a refractory impregnation. In addition, it does not fade in the sun, as the material is not afraid of exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Advantages and features - Impregnation that delays the spread of fire. - The seams are sealed with heat shrink tape. - Tent knots that experience high loads are reinforced with a more durable fabric. - The edge of an awning is sheathed by a strong sling. - Zippers on the outer tent are fixed with an aluminum hook. - Large vestibule for things. - If you unfasten the bedroom, there will be a place for a kitchen or dining room. The front window is closed. In the upper part there is an anti-mosquito net. The window is open. At the bottom of the transparent film. Frontal window outside - rain protection. Large rear ventilation window from the inside. Small back window from the inside. Adjustable large window outside. Small window with windscreen. Skirt around the perimeter, reinforced guy fastening. They allow you to remove moisture from the tent, regulate the flow fresh air . Weight (from 0.0 to 68.0 kg) The lightest tents weigh from 0.8 to 2 kg. The presence of a skirt is essential when using tents in the mountains, in winter or just at low temperatures. Number of places (from 1 to 20) The maximum number of people that can simultaneously accommodate in a tent. Number of tambours (from 0 to 4) A tambour is a space separating a room from an exit. Many modern models are equipped with it, but there are also tents without it. Volume (from 0.8 to 4322.0 m³) The volume of the internal space of the tent. Tents, in which there is no frame, are stretched on two posts or on natural supports (trees, etc.). d.). Reinforced corners Reinforced tent corners. The fabric from which the tent is made can tear at the points of greatest stress. To reinforce the corners, inserts made of durable fabric are used, sewn in a double layer or additional stitching with slings.

How to choose a tent?

Before going to the store with the words - "give me a tent", and in response, having heard from the consultant "What?" to say only - "Good!", try to first decide for yourself what you want from her?

I believe that bad tents do not exist in principle! They just each serve different purposes. Even the tents that the Vietnamese sell for 300 rubles can be used, all of a sudden you know for sure that you go out into nature only once and moreover, rain is not expected, then your choice is just the same "Vietnamese".

But since you opened this article, then most likely you have other goals. So, before going to the store, ask yourself a couple of questions: how often will I use the tent? what time of year? in what locality? Am I going to carry it by car or carry it for many days in a backpack? well, do not forget about your personal preferences, what if you have claustrophobia and you definitely need as much volume as possible inside? By answering these simple questions, you will spend much less time and possibly money in the store, although you may have to spend more than you expected, but already on your travels you will understand that you did everything right!

What are tents and what are they used for?

If we divide them by Areas of use then tents are:

camping

Tents in which the most important thing is comfort, most often they are very large, sometimes combined with whole tents, and the tents themselves can be attributed to this category. Such self-contained houses are best suited for setting up a camp for a long time, for example, on a trip to the sea, where you can stay in a special car camp. When choosing such a tent, first of all, see how comfortable you will be in it. Would you like to set up a table and chairs? - look at the size of the vestibule, do you like to undress and dress in full height? - look at the height of the tent. Of course, the quality of materials is also important, especially the frame, pay attention to how it is assembled. Since the dimensions of the structures are very impressive, assembly sometimes requires certain skills, but "quickly assembled" tents and tents have already appeared on the market in a decent amount, the frame of the awning and the inner part are combined in them and you just have to decompose the structure like an umbrella. What you definitely should not pay attention to is the packaged volume and weight.

Tourist

Perhaps the most versatile of tents. And the most popular in addition, they can be used both in camping and on multi-day hikes. Tourist shawls lose to camping shawls in terms of comfort, but decently gain in weight, and, consequently, in mobility. There are a lot of designs of such tents, I will talk about this in more detail below. In this category, you will need to think carefully about how often you will use it and in what conditions. So, for example, for winter, you need a windproof skirt, as well as a denser awning fabric. For summer and low altitudes, on the contrary, it is important to have a well-thought-out ventilation system. If it rains a lot in your area, look for a tent with the best water resistance, etc. and so on.

extreme

The most reliable and technologically advanced tents. At that moment, when you no longer have enough walks around the surroundings of your region and your legs carry you higher and higher to glaciers and dangerous rocks, extreme tents come to the rescue. They can be conditionally divided into two categories:

  • Expeditionary

They are used for hiking in the so-called "Himalayan" style of climbing, when base camps are organized along the route. In such camps, extreme expeditionary tents are set up. Requirements for them, first of all, crazy wind resistance and reliability. After all, after you have made the ascent, it is very important to return to that little corner of comfort that you had difficulty organizing earlier.

  • Assault

These are already tents for the "Light and fast" climbing style, which is gaining momentum in our time, literally translated easily and quickly, such a tent should have a minimum weight, but at the same time the ability to withstand the most severe weather conditions of the highlands. With such a tent, you can storm the summit from the same base camp, but you can take it on a bike trip, for example, why not, but the cost of such awnings will, to put it mildly, not small!

The main types of structures

First, they can be divided intosingle layer And two-layer, in the first case, the design wins in weight and sometimes in ease of installation, but the main problem of such awnings is that on the inside, due to the temperature difference, condensate is bound to form. This problem is partially solved by using expensive membrane fabrics, plus clever ventilation systems are being thought out. Double-layer tents, although they are just as susceptible to condensation, but it does not touches neither with you nor with your sleeping bag, due to the second layer of light "breathable" fabric. Assembly of a two-layer tent can begin with outdoor layer (it is convenient to assemble and disassemble during rain, you can fold without disconnecting the inner one) or from the inner one (you can put up a tent without an awning).

Concerning frame type, I will divide them into the following groups:

gable

The same tents that can be seen on Soviet posters, the principle is simple - the top of the tent is like the roof of a barn, it is installed using two racks (t racking poles, for example) and stretch marks. In my opinion, an outdated design with a number of disadvantages, for example, in order to achieve good wind resistance, such a tent must be correctly oriented in relation to the direction of the wind. But there are also pluses, which include weight.

domed

Or a hemisphere - the most common design option. The popularity is due to the ease of installation, and the ability to install a tent without stretch marks, which allows you to put it even on a bare stone (in calm weather). The downside of the design can be called a smaller internal volume, but manufacturers have already learned to deal with this by adding small arcs from above or adding "Hub" elements.

Tunnel

Or semi-barrels are characterized by a large internal volume and often less weight, but such tents are most often installed using guy wires, which complicates the installation process a bit.

wigwam

Quite a rare type of design, but, nevertheless, it has its advantages. For example, this design has the lowest weight / floor area ratio.

Main characteristics

  • weight- everything is clear here. The only thing is that they write min values. and max. which show how much the tent weighs with a minimum set of items for installation and with a full set. If you need a tent for camping, you can not look at the weight, because you only have to wear it to the car.
  • water resistance- the characteristic indicates the height of the water column that the fabric can withstand. It's a little more complicated here: Firstly, not all manufacturers conscientiously indicate these figures; Secondly, with the same characteristics, different tissues manifest themselves differently. For example, a fabric with silicone impregnation and just a fabric of decent density have the same moisture resistance, but water, having got on a fabric with impregnation, will roll off it, and on a regular one it will accumulate and get wet over time. Water resistance indicate for the awning and for the bottom, and for the latter it should be higher. Approximately, we can say that for summer and very little precipitation, 1000 - 2000 mm is enough, for a more comfortable stay in nature 3000 - 5000 mm, as for extreme conditions, choose those above 6000 mm.
  • arch materials and fabrics. I will not dwell on them in detail. this topic is a separate large article. I will only say about arcs - there are two main types of fiberglass and aluminum, the first is cheaper, but more fragile and heavier. Aluminum (as well as fiberglass in other matters) can be of different quality, it all depends on the alloy, but this is again a topic for a separate article. Tent fabrics are also made from hundreds of types of materials, which you can learn more about by looking at the markings on the labels, for example,75D/190T RipStop PU. Where 75D is the thickness of the thread, 190T is the density of the thread in square meters. inch, RipStop - weave type, PU - polyurethane coating.

What else?

  • windproof skirts. Useful thing in strong winds and on winter hikes.
  • pockets and shelves. It is very convenient when there are such little things inside, for example, if you put a lantern on a shelf in the upper part, you get a wonderful chandelier.
  • number of inputs. Two entrances not only allow you not to wake your neighbor when you need to go out, but also provide good ventilation .
  • vestibule. This is the space that remains under the awning, in which you can put a backpack, put shoes, and sometimes even drive a whole bike! A good vestibule also makes it possible to cook food on the stove without going outside.
  • much and much more:braceswith reflectors, rigidpegs, windowsfor admiring the stars, etc. and so on.

conclusions

Choosing a tent Firstly:

  • think about where and how you will use it:

Camping

Extreme

  • highlight the most important feature
  • decide on a budget
  • read some reviews

Now you imagine what you need, it remains only to come to the store and ask the consultant about the features of the models that you have chosen. Good luck with your choice and more travels!

Review of one of the first tents that I chose,

It is extremely important to take a thorough approach to the choice of tent, paying attention to a number of specific nuances, about which and will be discussed in this article.

Which tent to choose?

Types of tourist tents by destination:
- camping;
- trekking;

Universal;
- for high mountain ascents;
- special purpose.

I. How to choose a camping tent

Camping models were created in order to allow tourists to feel the complete comfort and enjoyment of outdoor recreation. The main differencecamping tentsis their large size, thanks to which several people can easily fit under one roof, and in full growth. In order to be sure not to miscalculate withcamping tent, it is best to build on its largest options. With such a shelter, you can relax with family and friends, fish or swim, without worrying that the weather can spoil the most vivid impressions of outdoor activities.

special attention when choosing camping tents it is necessary to pay attention to the material from which the awning and the bottom are made. The most acceptable material for an awning can serve as a ripstop (RipStop), the canvas of which is made of nylon or polyester. Such an awning should hold at least 2000 mm of water column, and preferably 3000 mm or more.

In order to keep warm and dry even in the heaviest downpour, you should not forget leave a gap between the awning and the tent, which will allow the layers of fabric not to touch each other. Regarding the bottom, we can say that in this case, it is necessary to choose the most durable materials (reinforced), without the slightest holes, with a water resistance of at least 6000 mm.
Do not forget about the presence of at least two entrances and exits, as well as a well-thought-out ventilation system. In order to independently control the temperature inside the tent, it is necessary that the shelter has two ventilation holes and several windows, necessarily located opposite each other. Choosing a camping tent it is always necessary to focus on the reliability and strength of the structure, no matter how difficult it may seem to assemble it. The best and most reliable option with which you can go on vacation for an unlimited number of days will be "tourist houses" made of waterproof fabric with an additional coating of silicone or polyurethane. Despite the fact that these models will certainly be heavy in weight, however, such a fabric can withstand even the heaviest showers without losing its strength and wear resistance. Improve general impression from rest will be able shelters with mosquito nets, high-quality fittings, additional sticks (arcs), pockets and dividing walls.

II. How to choose a trekking tent

This type is intended for tourists who choose for themselves such a type of active recreation as hiking and cycling. the main objective trekking tents- providing tourists with shelter in case of moderate rainfall. They should not be heavy, but at the same time they must remain reliable and uncomplicated in their installation. The most reliable option for trekking tents that can withstand strong gusts of wind are hemispherical structures. In addition to reliability, they are quite stable and easy to install. Another type of trekking houses are structures that resemble a semi-barrel in shape. Such models are quite spacious, but at the same time, the half-barrel cannot be sufficiently resistant to strong gusts of wind and rain.

Given the fact that a low dome is much more resistant to gusts of wind, trekking tents you need to choose with such a dome. Special attention should be paid to the racks. You should not give preference to light plastic racks, since it makes no sense to talk about strength in this case. The best option would be racks made of durable, but not too heavy metal alloys, for example Easton duralumin poles. Another point worth paying attention to is assembly and disassembly. In order not to stand and not get wet under the sudden onset of rain, it is necessary to choose those that can be assembled with your own hands in no more than 15 minutes of time. Trekking tents can be either single layer or double layer. (see below for more details), but always with securely taped or welded seams.

III. Universal tents

Universal shelter from rain and wind, for outdoor enthusiast, one that can be useful for hiking, as well as for cyclists, fishermen and lovers of water travel. Choosing a versatile tent it is necessary to pay attention to such qualities as: spaciousness, light weight, water tightness and ease of installation. Particular attention should be paid to simplicity in the installation and assembly process, since in most cases universal tents are used for frequent stops and active movements.

IV. Special purpose tents

This type should be chosen based on the purpose for which the structures themselves will be used. To date, in tourist equipment stores you can find such types of special-purpose tents as: for winter fishing; gauze from insects (for the tropics); hanging climbing tents; tourist baths; beach; tent-hammock or canopy and so on.

V. Tourist tents for high mountain ascents

Given the fact that while climbing the mountain, tourists find themselves in particularly extreme conditions, to the choice of tourist tents It is worth approaching especially biased, paying attention to such points as:
- increased degree of water resistance;
- the presence of a snow skirt;
- strong framework, at least from 4 arcs;
- protection from ultraviolet rays;
- a light weight.

Assault and expedition tents

Based on the style of climbing, this type is divided into assault and expeditionary structures. The lightest, most stable, but at the same time, they are not high assault tents , which are used primarily for alpine style climbing. Considering the fact that the alpine climbing style implies frequent stops and overnight stays each time in a new place, the main emphasis was placed on their lightness and ease of installation, thereby saving on the comfort of extreme people. In its turn expedition tents much more spacious and comfortable than assault. Such tents can accommodate up to five people, they have a reliable frame, and can be used for the Himalayan style of climbing (placement of a stationary camp for a group of tourists for a long period of time).

Bivy bag

In the process of mountaineering and rock climbing, another separate type of tent is often used, namely bivouac bags. This type is preferable exclusively for single hikes, since in its design it resembles an ordinary protective bag that is installed above a tourist's sleeping bag and can be used exclusively for sleeping. Bivy bag material is a special waterproof fabric, the advantage of which is lightness and reliable protective qualities.

Tent color

When choosing a tent, it is worth paying special attention to another important nuance, such as its coloring. Given the fact that fog and snowfall are common in the mountains, choose a suitable tent for mountaineering and climbing, the brightest and most conspicuous colors are recommended.

Let's distribute tents according to design features

Depending on the features of their design, tents can be single layer and double layer. Each of these types has its own individual advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of single-layer

The main advantages of single-layer tents include light weight, compact volume, as well as a high degree of breathability. Given the fact that single-layers are made from high quality materials such as Gore-Tex, Toddex, Epic, and Drizone, these lightweight constructions are endowed with wind and water repellency . The secret of these materials lies in tiny pores that do not allow moisture to pass through, and are several thousand times smaller than a drop of water. Compared to double-layer tents, single-layer structures look much smaller and simpler. Light weight is achieved due to the minimum number of arcs (2 pieces). Another important advantage of single-layer tents is the minimum area for their installation.

Cons of single-layer

The negative point is the likelihood of dampness, due to the intensive work of the technology to remove moisture, which, in addition to its direct purpose, is also responsible for preventing the formation of condensate. In order to prevent such occurrences, it is necessary regularly air out the tent with any holes. However, it is worth noting that during heavy rain, in any case, the tourist will not be able to remove moisture outside the home, which is the main disadvantage of this design. Among the shortcomings is the lack of proper comfort. Due to the simplicity of design and modest size, there will always be not enough space in the tent itself. In addition, such dwellings are characterized by the presence of a minimum number of windows, which significantly affects the weak climate control system.

Advantages of two-layer

The design of the two-layer model consists of two types of fabric, each of which is responsible for its own functions, namely the removal of moisture and maintaining an acceptable level of breathability inside. The air flow is controlled by the inner layer, which is mainly made of high quality nylon, which can be combined with other fabrics. The material for the second (outer) layer is nylon or polyester with their reliable properties of protection against any kind of precipitation.
Unlike single layer double layer tents are spacious and comfortable. Due to the presence of several entrances and a large number of windows, you can always maintain an optimal microclimate inside, as well as quickly go outside without disturbing your comrades. Despite the fact that two-layer models are somewhat heavier in weight than single-layer ones, however, all their components can be easily disassembled and distributed among your company.

Cons of two-layer

The main negative quality of two-layer models is their heavy weight, which can be especially felt when all the components of the structure are carried by one person. Compared to a single-layer tent, a double-layer construction requires more poles, which, in addition, have additional weaves. It is worth noting that not all two-layer dwellings have the same arcs. In order to somehow lighten the burden for yourself, it is best select DAC arcs. Such tent arches have less weight, although in terms of their main characteristics they are in no way inferior to their aluminum counterparts.
It goes without saying that every person has the right to choose what is best for him. However, many professionals recommend opting for single-layer tents, which will not burden the tourist while traveling, and will also be able to provide, albeit minimal, but still comfort during sleep.

What form of tourist tent to choose

Gable (classic "house")

Due to the fact that today there is a wide range of modern tents, many people began to attribute duplex tourist tents to the bygone past. However, it is worth emphasizing that the classic version of the "house" has now begun to be made from the highest quality durable materials that are used for tents in the form of a hemisphere, semi-barrels, as well as for frame structures.

It should be noted right away that gables have more advantages than disadvantages. The main feature of such models is comfort and space. It should be noted the ease of installation and assembly, ease of repair, the possibility of installation on a felled slab, the possibility of mounting on stretch marks. Unlike many modern types, gable models can reliably protect tourists even from the heaviest rain. Due to the vertical position of the end and side walls, the entrance of the "house" will be flooded much less than in many other tourist shelters.
the only lack of gable tents is the fact that in order to move the structure from place to place, tourists will always need to disassemble and reassemble it again, without the possibility of simply moving the entire structure. However, this negative nuance is not so significant, since in most cases gable "houses" are installed for a long time to organize various types of camps or mass camps of tourists.

Hemispherical tents

Due to the ease of installation, practicality, versatility, as well as ease of use, hemispherical tents are the most popular among tourists, fishermen, cyclists, as well as all people who prefer outdoor activities. Due to their design, they look like half a ball, which is formed by two intersecting arcs. The main advantages in the form of a hemisphere - a light weight, relatively affordable price, reliable stability, ease and speed of installation. It is worth noting that thanks to the two entrances, you can make drafts inside, create a shadow and blow through.
Lack of hemispherical tents lies in some difficulties at the time of structural breakdowns. The thing is that if during the journey, for one reason or another, one of the two arcs breaks, then it will be simply impossible to establish a tourist dwelling.

Half barrel tent

The peculiarity of models in the form of a half-barrel or in other words "hangar" and "cylinder" is a large capacity. However, despite the fact that compared to other types of "half-barrel" creates much more space and additional volume, only a quarter of tourists choose this option. The design itself can consist of two or more frame arcs, depending on its capacity. Among the advantages in the form of a half-barrel, it is worth including quite the same good ventilation and a spacious vestibule.

This type also has some negative manifestations, in particular, poor wind resistance, a long installation process, heavy weight, the inability to move the assembled structure, as well as difficulties in case of breakdowns. Given the voluminous space as well as the spacious vestibule, semi-barrel structures are often used as shelter for long periods of time.

Tent in the form of a tent

The main buyers of tents in the form of a tent are trained expeditioners and professionals in the field of tourism. This type has many advantages, however, in order to take full advantage of them, you need to know all the subtleties and nuances of such a design. Although tent frame consists of only one central post, there is a lot of space in the tent-tent, part of which is very often occupied by a stove. Installing a tent-shaped shelter takes no more than five minutes from one person. The negative aspects of a tent-shaped tent are expressed in poor wind resistance and poor ventilation.

Winter tent

Such a design as a winter tent-tent is an excellent option for shelter from all the "surprises" of the weather, in particular for fishermen. This shelter has type of hexagonal tent and is fairly light.

hybrid tents

One of the most expensive, however, at the same time incredibly comfortable and roomy, are hybrid tents. The main feature of these structures is a set of their functions, taken from both camping and tent-shaped tents.
