What is on the beach. Video about Jungle Beach in Unawatuna in Sri Lanka

In Unawatuna, a popular resort village in Sri Lanka, there is a small remote beach with beautiful name Jungle Beach. We were primarily interested in the picturesque mountain road, beautiful views the beach itself and wild monkeys. You can walk to it on foot from Unawatuna in 20 minutes.

Road to Jungle beach

We followed the signs on foot. The route takes 20-30 minutes. First we go through the village, then we go up the hill. The paved road turns into a narrow path. Jungles begin to creep in from all sides.

The trail is well looked after so that it does not overgrow

At some point, you even need to cross a mountain stream

Barbed wire keeps you from wanting to get lost in the jungle

A Buddhist stupa is visible on the hill to the right.

We went out on a mountain dirt road

Jungle Beach Lookout

Along the way, you can find a small observation deck. This is where it starts gorgeous views.

Amazing view! Jungle, huge stones on the shore, on which waves break with foam

The waves in Sri Lanka are always big and look spectacular in such places.

We take some exotic photos and move on. It's so hot here, I really want to plunge into the sea as soon as possible! Ahead we see a path that goes down towards the sea to the beach of Jungle Beach.

Jungle Beach: reviews and impressions

Finally arrived! The plate with the Russian name is slightly alarming.

Machine translation Jungle Beach restaurant

Vacationers are predominantly Russian

The jungle beach is quite small. But there are few people on it

Sunbeds are free, you can bring your own food and drinks. Or maybe we were just lucky that no one noticed how we took them.

The nature on Jungle Beach is exotic and significantly different from the main beach of Unawatuna

On the right side of the jungle beach, someone is always taking pictures on the rocks

Well, boats are moored on the left side. You can rent them for diving or go back to Unawatuna by sea

Diving and snorkeling are very popular at Jungle beach Unawatuna

And most importantly, there are small waves on the beach

Debris can float in the water

But there is one BUT. Since Jungle Beach is located on the other side of the bay from big city Galle, the water in this place can be quite dirty depending on the season and the current. As elsewhere in the vicinity of cities, the sea is heavily polluted.

During our visit, the current from Galle brought a lot of small debris to the shore. We got little pleasure from swimming, because either with your foot or with your hand you touch another bag or bottle in the water. However, according to our readers, garbage is not always there.

Of course, this serious shortcoming of the beach is brightened up by exotic nature, as well as wild monkeys who have learned to ask for food from tourists.

Hotels near Jungle Beach

There are no hotels on the beach itself, but there are 2 closest ones, which are located on the mountain within walking distance:

Cantaloupe Levels
Closest to the beach! There is a swimming pool with great sea views.
Rating 9 out of 10
Villa Baywatch, Rumassala
Cozy houses, large balcony overlooking the sea, well-groomed territory.
Rating 7.4 out of 10

Other hotels are closer to Unawatuna, but Jungle Beach is within walking distance

Not far away is the interesting Jungle Beach. This beach is another attraction of Unawatuna. Previously, he was considered secret beach, but now Jungle Beach is very popular among tourists, so the locals constantly clear the path so that it does not overgrow. The beach itself is small, about 50 meters, and literally a few meters away, hidden behind a boulder, there is a slightly larger beach, about 100 meters. This is perhaps one of the few places in south coast Sri Lanka, where there are almost no waves and you can safely swim. The beach is located in a small bay, and on opposite side there is a fort, so garbage can periodically float in the water, unfortunately, this is typical of most places located near cities. There may be corals in the water, so bring swimming slippers with you. Romantic lovers should definitely visit this place.

Sri Lankans like to visit the beach on weekends, so it is better to avoid this time or do it early in the morning and late in the evening.

Things to do at Jungle Beach

On the way to the beach, a little to the left, there is a small " Observation deck”, made by nature itself, from where it opens beautiful view to the ocean and rocks. A little higher on the mountain is a Buddhist temple.

There is almost no infrastructure here, on a small beach there is a small cafe where you can have a bite to eat or drink freshly squeezed juice, as well as sunbeds, a shower and a toilet. Since the bay is well protected from the waves by a reef, this place is especially suitable for snorkeling, here you can snorkel along the coast.

From time to time, discos are held on the beach and locals distribute flyers in advance.

How to get to Jungle Beach

You can get there on foot, because. the beach is located two kilometers from the center of Unawatuna, the road runs through the jungle and takes about 30 minutes. There are signs along the way to the beach, so it’s hard to get lost. You can also get from Unawatuna by scooter or tuk tuk, but you will need to leave at the top, because. The path to the beach is very steep and winding. Parking cost 50 . There is another option to get by boat from the main beach of Unawatuna.

If you want to visit the heavenly place of Nha Trang for a while, be sure to visit Jungle Beach (Jungle Beach) - one of the best beaches this region.

One of our favorite beaches near Nha Trang is Jungle Beach. A real pearl among all the many beaches located on the coast. It is the quietest and most comfortable, without the hustle and bustle that is present on the city beach.

Road

Beach coordinates: 12.452337, 109.282197

Getting here is quite easy, a convenient route leads to the beach, and although public transport no, it's easy to either drive and drive along the AN-1 highway. Jungle Beach is located 60 km from Nha Trang, in the eastern part of the Heo Peninsula.

The first part of the road, before turning onto the Ninh Van Peninsula, may seem especially difficult - there are many trucks there. In addition, local residents are not particularly inclined to be careful on the road.

Somewhere on the 38th km from the center of Nha Trang (from the "Lotus") you need to turn right. The turn is quite easy to recognize: there will be a road sign in front of it, and at the turn itself there is a large banner of the Hyundai shipyard.

Road sign

Signboard-pointer

Turning right, you have to drive along a rather winding road for about 20 km.

By the way, if you follow a straight line a little forward, then you will get to another beautiful, but more popular and noisy one.

In fact, Jungle Beach in Nha Trang is the name of a resort located on the seashore. You won’t see the beach right away, because it is located behind small thickets that you have to go through, but it will not be difficult to find the resort, just look for the sign:

Jungle Beach Resort

Everyone, you are there.

Parking a motorbike and entering the resort costs 100,000 VND each.

Beach

The Jungle Beach resort itself is not very large, only 6,000 sq. meters, and fully justifies its name, as it is located among palm trees and is simply immersed in exotic greenery. It is not intended for active rest, there is no special entertainment here. This beach is perfect place to relax together in the midst of peace and tranquility.

Here it is, Jungle Beach!

They don't even organize tours from here. But near the hotels there is a wonderful market with very inexpensive fruits. It is best to come here around 6 am - then you can buy ready-made exotic Vietnamese dishes.

For entertainment there is some sports equipment in the form of badminton, table tennis, chess. There is a small library in English and Vietnamese. You can also watch marine animals on the shore.

Almost half of the beach area is fishing village, there is practically nothing interesting in it for guests and tourists. But the part that is intended for vacationers is incredibly beautiful. Everything is here - the sea, mountains, seagulls, excellent clean sand. It is of an unusual shade - white-yellow, small and unusually warm.

Beach view

At any time of the year the temperature sea water here it rarely drops below 24 degrees, and at night plankton swims up to the shore, which phosphoresces in the dark. So you can swim in the fabulous silver glow.

There are comfortable, familiar sunbeds on the shore, but it is much more interesting to soak up the hammocks woven from vines. In some places on the beach, a feeling of complete privacy is created, especially at lunchtime, when the already few tourists disperse to their hotels.

Under a canopy you can hide from the scorching sun

There are never strong waves and storms here, so swimming is completely safe.

Despite all the advantages of the beach, the sun is still very hot here, so be sure to use sunscreen.

Hotels

There are only two hotels - Homestay Jungle beach and Wild beach resort 3*. Accommodation prices are moderate.

In Homestay Jungle beach you will pay 600,000 VND per day, they include accommodation, three meals a day, use of sunbeds, sports equipment.

In Wild Beach resort 3 * the cost for two is 1,200,000 dong, but this is only payment for accommodation. Each hotel in the main building has a free storage room for valuables.

Hotels are equipped differently from the usual high-rise buildings with standard rooms. These are cozy bungalows, houses made of bamboo. Outside, they look very unusual and modest, but inside everything is very comfortable and practical. But these are not luxury apartments, there are no sophisticated amenities, and absolutely nothing more.

If desired, in hotels you can choose the food that you are used to, so that unforeseen health complications do not spoil your vacation.

What is very attractive in a hot climate is that water and lemon juice are included in the price, they are offered in any quantity.

Near the hotels there is a Vietnamese market, where you can also buy your usual food.

Wi-Fi in the houses is quite good, you can use it even on the coast, near the ocean itself.

At first it may seem that the staff is not very sociable. This is not entirely true - people in Vietnam are very hospitable, you just need to get used to their style of communication, here they have a completely different mentality and habits. They own a little English language, so in terms of communication, difficulties should not arise.

If you are tired of the bustle and the pursuit of time, then Jungle beaches Beach and Wild Beach (next to it) are what you need.

Relaxing holiday on beautiful coast, Without a large number tourists, from delicious food- what could be nicer?

And if you've been here before, we'd love to hear your feedback. Did you like Jungle Beach? Vietnam disappoints many in terms of beach holiday but only until they see this place.

Jungle Beach - small sand beach on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, located in a bay among tropical vegetation. The distance to it from the popular Unawatuna beach is about a couple of kilometers.

Distinctive features of Jungle Beach are the beautiful and calm Indian Ocean in this place, comfortable for swimming and snorkeling, as well as an interesting path to it, passing through the jungle, where you can get acquainted with the rich flora and fauna of the island.

Description of the beach

Jungle Beach consists of two small sandy areas separated by a stone ridge about 100 meters long. The length of the first section closest to the Unawatuna beach is about 50 meters, the second is a little more, about 100 meters. The width of the beach is small and varies from a couple of meters to about 20-25.

Due to the location of the beach in a bay protected by a coral reef, the Indian Ocean is unusually calm here, there are either no waves here at all, or they are very small. Therefore, Jungle Beach is considered one of the the best places in the south and southwest of Sri Lanka, where you can comfortably swim without fighting the waves.

However, it should be borne in mind that in the water, as well as on the coastal strip, there are stones in the sand, so you need to be careful not to hit them. In addition, there may be corals in places, so special shoes will not hurt. Entry into the water at Jungle Beach is gentle, the depth increases gradually.

The sand on Jungle Beach is a light brown shade, dense, comfortable for walking on it - the legs do not fall through. The color of the ocean is different different time and at different depths - from light blue to rich blue-green.

The beach has enough areas with natural shade from the spreading tropical trees that surround the shore, so finding a place where you can hide from direct sunlight is not difficult.

In the morning hours, Jungle Beach is usually completely empty of people. The first vacationers appear here closer to noon. Also a lot of people, especially local residents observed here on weekends. The youth of Sri Lanka prefers to relax on the far side of the beach, where they often have something like picnics: in addition to swimming, they fry meat, play drums or ball.

Infrastructure

In reviews from a few years ago, you can find information that Jungle Beach has a minimum infrastructure: sunbeds, a beach cafe, a shower and a toilet. All this appeared here at a time when on the neighboring popular beach Unawatuna experienced problems with the coastline (part of the sand was washed away by the ocean and the width of the beach was greatly reduced), and local population was looking for alternatives to offer tourists. However, after the shore of Unawatuna Beach was refilled in 2015, the popularity of Jungle Beach has declined significantly, and all infrastructure has disappeared.

On this moment the beach is not equipped in any way, moreover, a sufficient amount of garbage often accumulates here due to the sufficient distance from the roads and irregular cleaning on it.

However, thanks to the soft sandy surface and the presence of a large number of trees on the beach, you can comfortably sit just on a towel or bedspread in the natural shade.

Often, boats are moored on Jungle Beach, which can be rented for a boat trip - return to Unawatuna in this way or sail away from the coast for diving or snorkeling.

On the way to the beach there are souvenir shops and stalls where you can buy local fruits or drinks, according to the reviews of tourists who have been here, an interesting pattern is that the price in them for the same goods decreases as you approach Jungle Beach.

Things to do at Jungle Beach

Jungle Beach is great place for those who love to snorkel. Due to the absence of waves and the presence nearby coral reef, you can fully enjoy the beauty and diversity underwater world indian ocean. Some tourists note that you can see more than 20 species marine life, among which: butterfly fish, surgeonfish, sea dragons and hedgehogs, and even dangerous moray eels and rays.

Those who are not indifferent to the monkeys will also like the beach: they are fed on Jungle Beach and willingly go down to tourists for treats.

Jungle Beach is perfect for photography enthusiasts: turquoise ocean waters, hanging palm branches, picturesque boulders. The landscape is complemented by a small pond, located nearby and covered with lotuses.

In addition, temples located near the beach will be interesting to visit. The closest of them is the Peace Pagoda, a stupa built by Japanese Buddhists, towering on a hill. The temple is accessible to everyone, plus its platform offers a gorgeous view of the ocean. Within walking distance from Jungle Beach are also the Sri Viwekaramaya Temple, where you can see several different Buddha statues, paintings and murals, and the Yatagala Raja Maha Viharaya Temple, considered one of oldest temples Sri Lanka.

How to get to Jungle Beach in Sri Lanka

You can get to Jungle Beach from major resort- Unawatuna. From the western part of the main beach of the village there is a path that passes through the jungle and a small settlement. It should be borne in mind that somewhere on it there are quite extreme sections - ascents and descents on stones, “steps” made of tree roots. So it is advisable to hit the road in comfortable shoes, especially after rain.

Along the entire path there are signs to Jungle Beach, so it is impossible to get lost here. Along the way, in tropical thickets, you can see monkeys, porcupines, monitor lizards and numerous other lizards, and in some places you come across platforms with gorgeous views of the ocean and the bay. Video about Jungle Beach in Unawatuna in Sri Lanka

We have been in Nha Trang for two months now, and today we decided to go to the beach, which many friends unanimously recommended to us.

How to get there

Getting there is easy. We were on our own, on a bike. The journey takes 1 - 1.5 hours.

Jungle Beach is located 65 km from Nha Trang. If you get on your own, then you need to go along the AN1 highway to the north of Nha Trang. You need to turn right at the Huynday shipyard (you will see a sign on the road):

Before this sign, turn right, then you will drive along the coast, immerse yourself in the aromas of raw fish, see fishermen laying out seaweed. Then drive through the village and at a dead end you will see the inscription Jungle Beach on the left side of the road.

If you are not on a bike, you can ask the resort to organize transportation back to the city. Some guests of the resort cooperate together to make it cheaper.

Beach coordinates: 12.431418, 109.287294

We are already “hardened” by bike trips, so we arrived quickly, and the trip did not tire at all.

Jungle Beach is a very quiet resort, if you just want to spend time on the beach, swim and sunbathe, leave your bike in their parking lot, then the cost is 100,000 VND.

The territory is 6000 sq. m. On the beach, clean fine white sand, water of amazing emerald color. Very clean and transparent. There were light waves - and it was also very pleasant. And it's still very shallow. Which didn't bother us either.

Jungle Beach beautiful beach 60 km from Nha Trang

On the beach there are gazebos with hammocks and sunbeds. True, not much, but quite enough - after all, there are also few people! Such expanse after a noisy and too crowded (and not too clean) city beach in Nha Trang!

We were inspired by the atmosphere of relaxation and pleasant solitude in the bosom of nature. No one interfered with each other, there were few people, everyone read or swam somewhere, in general, the impression was that the beach was wild and a whole big piece of beauty was ours! Especially at lunchtime, when the sun began to bake strongly, everyone left the beach!

True, we got a little burned out. Don't forget to apply cream!

Stay at a cottage

You can rent a bungalow in the resort. Everything is simple there, the houses are small and bamboo, but quite cozy, and everything around is so relaxing. The houses have electricity, fans, some bungalows have a separate bathroom. node. The main house has lockers for valuables.

You can rent a bungalow here for 600,000 VND. Included in the price Three meals a day, drinking water and lemon juice in unlimited quantities, after dinner - fruit. Breakfast from 7 am to 10 am, lunch around 12:30 pm, dinner around 6:30 am. Sometimes on the beach in the evening they arrange a barbecue, a fire. From food offered fish, seafood, beef, chicken, pork, rice (of course!), Fruit vegetables. From coffee drinks (delicious! I love Vietnamese coffee!), soft drinks, beer.

WiFi is free but it's only in the main building. All furniture in the resort is made by hand.

Entertainment and activities

From entertainment - the sea, the sea, the sea!

Home restaurant, there is table tennis, you can play volleyball, badminton, frisbee, go snorkeling, watch fast and funny crabs on the shore, pick up starfish and throw them into the water, filled with the proud feeling of a rescuer! nearby beautiful mountains you can walk there.

Of course, there is a shower and a cute family of very friendly dogs.

But the beauty of this place lies in relaxation and admiring it. beautiful sea! We noticed that everyone reads there. And in the gazebo we saw a mini-library. You can choose a book! Especially good if you read in English or Vietnamese.

The resort provides free bicycles for guests, and you can also rent a bike. Nearby there is Beautiful places- jungle, mountains, waterfall.

Inside there is a restaurant (very simple, rather homely). We arrived just for a day, we didn’t rent a house, so we were offered a dinner of 200,000 dong per person: rice, vegetables, meat to choose from. There is no menu, everything is very simple. We drank a cup of coffee with milk (15,000 per cup, very tasty, by the way, coffee).

We only went for a few hours. I think it would be nice to go there as a couple or a group of friends for a couple of days.

This place is just extraordinary. It relieves any tension and fatigue, and of course, it is impossible not to admire it! We are enchanted.
