Naklua – Wong Amat

For the majority who have never been to Thailand, Pattaya becomes the starting point for getting to know the country. The city has all the opportunities for recreation - beaches, bars and restaurants, housing of various classes, entertainment for every taste. The city infrastructure and transport network are well developed here, the proximity to Bangkok and its ancient sights makes Pattaya great place spending your vacation. And given the low prices, the resort in the eyes of vacationers becomes even more attractive.

It is worth noting that the Russian speakers have fixed the wrong pronunciation with the stress on the second syllable. Thais and Europeans emphasize the last syllable - Pattaya.

Geographical position

Pattaya is a resort city located in the southeastern part of Thailand, in the province of Chonburi, on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand. Distance from Bangkok to Pattaya - 160 km, 110 km from the main air gate country - Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Total area 22 sq. km, but unofficially it also includes the areas of Jomtien and Naklua, where Russian tourists like to stay. The population is 100,000 inhabitants, although, taking into account tourists, it can be increased several times (according to some sources, there are from 400,000 to 500,000 people here).

Story

Until recently, no one knew about Pattaya, 60 years ago this place was an unremarkable village. And only with the advent of the US Army, the development of the resort began to gain momentum. At the end Vietnam War there was some decline in interest, but gradually rumors spread and the resort began to gain popularity among US residents. In recent years, Pattaya has also fallen in love with many citizens of Russia and the CIS countries. More details about.

A Few Important Facts

1. A visa for citizens of the Russian Federation is not required. You can have free rest at the resort for 30 days.

2. The time differs from Moscow by 4 hours (when in Moscow it is 12 o'clock, in Pattaya - 16 o'clock).

3. Free WiFi Internet is available in bars, massage parlors, in almost any hotel.

4. It is better to take cash in dollars or euros. The exchange of dollars here has some features: bills of denominations of 1-20 are exchanged at a very unfavorable rate, only banknotes of 50 and 100 have a good rate. The city of Pattaya is one of the few resorts in Thailand where you can exchange rubles for baht.

5. Public transport of the city - songteo (tuk-tuk) - cost 10 Thai baht within the city (regardless of the duration of the trip). It costs the same amount to get from Jomtien to Central Pattaya (if further - to Naklua, then 20 baht).

6. No driver's license is required to rent motorbikes. It is enough to give a copy of the passport as a pledge (very rarely - the original). You must always ride in a helmet, otherwise the fine is 500 baht. And driving without a license is also a fine. In recent years, there have been a lot of police on the streets.

7. You can withdraw money from the card both at the bank (no commission) and at the ATM on which ATM is written (commission - 200 baht). It is better to travel with a card not lower than Visa Classic or Mastercard Standard, since the rest may not work here. Even in Russia, you should call your bank and say that you are going to Thailand. They will make a mark on themselves and the card will not be blocked when withdrawing money in this Asian country (such cases sometimes happen).

Who should go

The Pattaya resort is the most popular holiday destination for Russian tourists in Thailand. Comes here every year a large number of vacationers. There are several reasons for this: the city has the lowest prices for everything (accommodation, food, shops, massage, “adult” entertainment), easy access, proximity to Bangkok and its attractions, a large selection of excursions, etc.

Pattaya is located on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand, 150 kilometers from Bangkok and two hours from Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Usually, acquaintance with the country, with its advantages and disadvantages, begins from here. It should be borne in mind that the Central Beach is not very suitable for families with children and beach holidays. It is better to settle on Jomtien, Naklua or Protumnak.

But the place is great for lovers of outdoor activities, nightlife, and especially for single men. Pattaya is known all over the world thanks to the walking street - Walking Street with its establishments and shows for adults.

Advantages and disadvantages of Pattaya

  • most cheap resort countries, low prices for tour packages;

Let's face it - the sea in Pattaya is the dirtiest in Thailand, especially the Main Beach, located next to Volkin Street. A little better on Jomtien and Wongamat. But it is worth noting that it is still somewhat cleaner than in many Russian resorts.

If you want crystal water that can be seen 10-15 meters deep, we recommend the nearest Ko Lan Island. You can get to it by ferry, which runs from the main pier of Bali Hai in Pattaya about every hour. The cost of a one-way trip is 30 baht, the journey time is about 40 minutes. If you wish, you can use a speed boat that will take you in 15 minutes. The price in the latter case will be higher.

Also, you can always go to others.

What to do and what to visit

Pattaya is the perfect starting point for exploring all of Thailand's main attractions. There is no other seaside resort, which would be so close to Bangkok - the main concentration of cultural, historical and architectural monuments countries. The old capital - Ayutthaya is also only 2.5-3 hours away. The Kwai River, Kanchanaburi province, the northern cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are all relatively close (especially when compared with Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi, Phi Phi and Lanta, from which it takes 13 hours to drive to Bangkok).

You can book excursions in Russia if you buy a tour package. But it will cost much cheaper in Pattaya itself, in one of the local travel agencies (tour operators offer various trips, but 1.5 times more expensive). Such services are offered everywhere. If you do not know English, then it is best to contact one of any agencies with Russian-speaking managers. For example, on Pattaya Park Street (next to the hotel of the same name) there are tour desks where Russian managers work.

In addition, from Pattaya you can easily and quickly get to the islands of Samet (2 hours) and Chang (4 hours), the beaches of which are clean and not crowded. It will be great solution for those who get tired of the noisy city and want to spend a few days among the untouched tropical nature, where in the evenings it is very calm and the silence is broken only by the sound of the surf and the singing of birds.

And of course, be sure to go to.

Attractions

The sights of Pattaya are quite numerous, although most are located in the vicinity. In the city itself, you can see the Big Buddha Temple and the Temple of Truth, the Oceanarium, Mini Siam Park. Nong Nooch Garden, Crocodile Farm, two large zoos, a floating market and much more are nearby. You can visit all of them on your own, or you can order a sightseeing tour. The cheapest is in a local travel agency, and not with such large tour operators as Pegasus, Biblio Globus, Natalie Tours, etc.

The resort is located just 2 hours drive from Bangkok, where the most significant temples and sights of the country are located: the Royal Palace, the Emerald Buddha, Wat Po and Wat Arun. You can also go there on your own, or with excursions.

At the end of April, the (Thai New Year) is celebrated in Pattaya, and a colorful one takes place at the end of November.

Nightlife

Night entertainment is one of the features of Pattaya, which deserves a separate story. All over the world, the resort is known as the main center of adult entertainment in Asia and most European and American men come here for this. Only Russians consider the city a place for a beach holiday, where you can sunbathe and swim. However, in recent years, local authorities have been trying to get rid of the label of sex tourism and reorient themselves towards family vacations. For example, they regularly "clean" the embankment from night butterflies, increase the width central beach by loose sand.

It is no coincidence that nightlife lovers come to the city of Pattaya, since the prices for services here are inexpensive. Other entertainments are also developed in Pattaya, for example, the world-famous shows of transvestites Alcazar and Tiffany (by the way, besides the fact that all the artists are transvestites, there is nothing forbidden in these shows - the usual dance performance) or the Shocking Asia show.

By the way, Thailand is a very puritanical country and in Pattaya not all girls are engaged in this business and are easily accessible. Decent Thais are very modest and shy; for some, intimate relationships before marriage are taboo.

Everything about the city of Pattaya for tourists - the main advantages, disadvantages. Who is this resort suitable for and what time of the year is it worth going there? Entertainment, attractions, prices, beaches, money, transport - and much more! Comprehensive information for the tourist - the nuances and subtleties of the rest.

Pattaya is a small but very popular resort town in Thailand, located on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand. It is located in the southeast of the country, near the capital of the kingdom - Bangkok. They are separated by only 160 km. It has an immodest role - it is recognized as a city of sins, entertainment and debauchery. By the way, unbridled fun will come out much cheaper than in other resorts in Thailand.

The territory of the city is small - only 22 km². According to official figures, about 120,000 people permanently live on it. In fact, the population is aiming for 500,000 people. Pattaya is divided into districts: Naklua, Central (Wongamat), North (Naklua), South (Pratamnak) Pattaya and Jomtien.

For residents of large Russian cities, Pattaya may seem like a small village, with modest, unennobled areas. In comparison: the area, for example, Saratov: 394 km². It is worth considering that this is far from the largest village in Russia.

“The main thing is not size, but convenience and comfort,” you say. And right. Despite the fact that the city is located in the industrial compartment east coast Thailand, the main source of income is tourism. But, and with this there are small problems. About everything - read below!

Who is Pattaya resort for - advantages and disadvantages

  • Undoubtedly, acquaintance with the land of smiles should begin with Pattaya, because:
  • It is here that you can plunge into the atmosphere of the country as much as possible;
  • To join the color of Asia with all its disadvantages and advantages;
  • Go on many sightseeing, popular excursions;
  • It's great to "break away", changing the atmosphere of working, boring days.

Of the pluses can be noted:

  • Comparative cheapness for accommodation, food, entertainment;
  • Direct flight ( charter flights), proximity to the airport in Bangkok (regular flights);
  • Huge selection of entertainment venues for adults;
  • There are a large number of islands around, and they have good transport accessibility.

Everyone has their own shortcomings. The most obvious, no matter how ridiculous it may sound, follow from the pros:

  • Constant noise and din in the streets. Especially true in the center;
  • Pollution of the sea, pedestrian roads on the streets;
  • Relatively low quality of service;
  • Big crowd, queues for popular shows/entertainment.

This is most noticeable during the "peak" season. Summing up, Pattaya is suitable for:

  • Active recreation without children;
  • Young people who want to have fun day and night;
  • Lonely young people;
  • Those for whom a beach holiday is not in the first place.

When is the best time to relax in Pattaya - climate, weather

As such, no one will ever give you accurate forecasts. In general, in Thailand - summer all year round. In Pattaya - this statement is most relevant, because hot tropical climate most stable in this part of the country. The monsoon season, which is most noticeable from November to May, is usually less bright than in other resorts in the country. Objectively, given the possible variations of recreation and a lot of entertainment in Pattaya, you can fly to this place at any time of the year.

However, there is a conditional "peak season", which falls in the winter months. At this time, less rain falls in Pattaya, clouds in the sky are rare guests. You should know that in the "high season" - prices soar several times.

When is the best time to visit Pattaya? If you are looking for adventure, relaxing in bars, clubs, massage and erotic parlors, the “reasonable” time to relax is summer, spring. As mentioned earlier, in the generally accepted "off season", prices drop significantly.

If you plan to visit the surrounding area, go to the islands, leave this location for long excursion programs, for example, to the Similan Islands - it is best to go in the winter months.

Book tours, accommodation and excursions in advance. Before the New Year holidays, all offers fly like hot cakes.

Which sea in Pattaya - a beach holiday

Geographically, Pattaya is located on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand, which, in turn, flows into the South China Sea, then into the Pacific Ocean.

The beach area does not imply a calm, family vacation. In addition, the water in this area is quite dirty - household and "natural" garbage. Aggravates the situation - a large accumulation of boats, boats, large barges.

To say that there is no sea in Pattaya is not fair. But, famous beaches"as in the picture", you will hardly find. The exception is locations that are located outside the resort, which cannot be reached by the usual Thai taxis - tuk-tuks.

Also, the way out is a trip to neighboring islands. Thankfully, there are many. And yet, when choosing Pattaya with the connotation of a relaxing holiday, or a vacation that involves a calm, beach holiday, pay attention to hotels with good, large pools.

Excursions, entertainment

Definitely, Pattaya is considered one of the most popular resorts Thailand. Every day, thousands of tourists come here. Where there is great demand, there will be supply.

One of the most fun activities is elephant riding.

The excursion menu is simply “bursting with offers”. It is because of this fact that many tourists choose this location. Why is that? Everything is simple! The geographical location of Pattaya is the most successful regarding sightseeing objects. In addition, Pattaya became the first city to "grow up" to receive guests. The palm led to the opening of many travel agencies, and as a result, the organization of many programs.

The English language is not very "respected" by the Thais. It is quite difficult to find a person who speaks this language fluently. Don't own it either? Refer to sign language.

Everything is clear with excursions, you definitely won’t have any problems. Exactly, as with the choice of an entertainment venue for a night out.

All over the world, Pattaya is recognized as one of the brightest locations for nightlife, including intimate ones. As they say, for every taste and color - who is looking for what. Extravagant shows "Alcazar", "Tiffany" are suitable for couples. For youth companies - numerous clubs scattered throughout the city. For single guys looking for sex adventures, there are many client-oriented bars with far from modest girls.

Attractions

As such, you will not find attractions that have a celebrity level a la the Eiffel and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. There are no large-scale cultural and historical objects within the city. Of the interesting locations that can be attributed to the group of attractions are the Big Buddha, the Temple of Truth, the floating market and Mini Siam.

Correctly pronounce with an emphasis on the last vowel - Pattaya.

In addition to Pattaya attractions, you can "capture" the main tourist sites of Bangkok. Fortunately, the city is only a two-hour drive.

Food, cafes, restaurants

There are many cafes with different cuisine, price range and level of service. A lot of street catering establishments, Thai fast foods and merchants wandering along the beach. You will definitely not have problems choosing a place for an evening meal.

Please note that the vast majority of hotels in Thailand operate on the BB system - breakfast only.

Prices in Pattaya, money, ATMs

In Pattaya, as in all of Thailand, the Thai baht (THB) "walks". Upon arrival, it is advisable to exchange money for local currency. Payment in dollars / rubles can "pass" exclusively in street souvenir shops. Official establishments, local supermarkets and tour agencies will send you to the exchange office.

There is an opinion that prices in Pattaya are cheap. No matter how. In addition to the jump in the course, not in our favor, holidays in this city become more expensive every year. Of course, in comparison with other resorts in Thailand - Pattaya is recognized as one of the cheapest locations.

As for ATMs (ATM), there will be no problems with them either. There are pickup points on every street. Money, various exchange points.

Before leaving, notify your bank that you are heading to Thailand. If you do not do this, the bank's security service may block the card for "suspicious transactions" in an unnatural place for you.

Shopping, markets

Shopping in Pattaya is multifaceted. This word maximally reflects the essence of the local “buy and sell”. There are places for any merchant. Starting with presentable middle and business class shopping centers - offering clothes, equipment and products at fixed prices, ending with night markets - selling their goods for a penny.

In the markets of Pattaya, clothes are very cheap. For example, shorts can be bought for 150 baht, a swimsuit for 100 baht, slippers for 150 baht.

For tourists who want to thoroughly “shop”, we remind you that when leaving Thailand, you can return the VAT (7%) paid upon purchase.

Transport

The most relevant and cheapest way to travel is tuk-tuk, a Thai fixed-route taxi. Initially, such transport does not inspire confidence - dubious, unapproved routes, low driving safety. In fact, there is no alternative. There is no other public transport in Pattaya. For example, the usual for us - a regular bus, tram or trolleybus.

A tuk-tuk ride costs 10 baht. The price rises 2 times for the road to remote areas.

However, there is a more widely used transportation option - a motorbike. Daily rent will cost 200-300 baht. This method of transportation is relevant for those who know how to drive and are not afraid of chaotic, dense traffic.

Of course, as in all cities in the world, in Pattaya you can take a taxi on the street or order it through an application, for example, Uber.

Mobile communications, internet

In Pattaya, as in all of Thailand, there are three mobile operators. Depending on the choice of tariff, calls within the network will cost 1-3 baht, abroad - from 10 baht. Tariffs that include mobile internet are around 25 baht/day.

You can buy SIM cards at any sales office of the selected operator, or at 7-eleven supermarkets. To choose the optimal tariff "for yourself" - consult with the seller. Depending on your goals (calls abroad / within the network / mobile Internet), he will select the most advantageous prepaid tariff option for you. !

Keep in mind, registration of SIM cards is not possible without a passport.

Wi-fi is available in almost every cafe, restaurant, hotel. As a rule, the data transfer speed is enough for communication via instant messengers, downloading sites, searching for the necessary information.

The idea of erecting a structure that would have a place for pilgrimage for adherents of all religions of the East came to the millionaire Lek Viryaphant, after whose death his son leads the process. The temple is a truly grandiose structure: it is built from teak and iron wood without nails (although the latter are clearly visible on the walls, but the Thais promise to pull them out when construction is completed).

Work inside is ongoing, so visitors are given helmets. The temple has four halls - Thailand, China, India and Cambodia - according to the number of religions represented. There is a chapel only in the Thai hall, where mantras are constantly sounded. The building is richly decorated with ornaments, carvings, and is saturated with symbolism. It is located on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand and resembles a huge dragon from the fantasy world. In addition to visiting the sacred building itself, you can ride a boat around the bay, look at national Thai dances, visit a mini-zoo at the entrance.
Opening hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., you will have to pay 500 baht for entry.

Temple complex Wat Yan

Wat Yan is not just a church. On the territory of 145 hectares there are about 10 built at different times and in different styles structures that make up a major religious center. Among them main temple- Wat Yansangwararam, where only monks can enter, a white stupa with the relics of the Buddha, the palace of the Chinese emperor, monks' dwellings, a meditation center, hospitals, schools. The Phra Mondop chapel, also called the Buddha's Footprint, is worth a visit because it houses the footprint of the Buddha.

300 steps lead to the chapel, climbing which you can enjoy the beautiful view and ring the bells, making a cherished wish. On the territory of Wat Yan there are two lakes, one of which is completely overgrown with pink lotus, and around which there are gazebos for relaxation and contemplation. You can visit daily from 8 am to 4 pm. Entrance is free, but you have to pay 50 baht to climb the Buddha's Footprint.

Chinese Temple Wat Ang Sila

The Chinese temple of Wat Ang Sila is also called the Temple of the Red Dragon, and once you get here, you understand why. You will probably not find such a bright, pompous, like a toy building either in Pattaya or in its environs. The building dates back to around 1700 and is dedicated to Chinese Buddhism. The style is sustained in everything - there are Chinese pagodas, and huge incense burners, everywhere and everywhere dragons wrap around columns, a lot of gold and red. The decorations seem to be too much, but the temple looks more fabulous than tasteless - you feel like the hero of a movie about a crouching tiger and a hidden dragon.

The walls of the room inside are decorated with paintings, carpets are laid on the floors. Here you can ring a huge bell and make a wish or hit a huge drum that purifies karma. Countless figures, patterns and ornaments can be viewed for a very long time, and one cannot fail to mention what magnificent pictures are taken against the backdrop of the Temple of the Red Dragon. It is open daily from 8:00 am to 7:30 pm and admission is free.

Temple of Hell and Heaven

Perhaps the most controversial place in terms of visiting tourists. This garden museum gives a visual answer to the question “what happens after death?” both the righteous and the sinners. The part of the territory reserved for Paradise is replete with pictures of the peaceful, happy life of the followers of the Buddha, who meditate in a lush garden. Apparently, the creators of the museum considered that there are much more sinners on earth than saints, and they took as many as 70 percent of the entire area of the Temple under the hellish part. It begins with a reassuring "Welcome to Hell" sign, after which two giant figures of a man and a woman appear before the tourist's gaze, surrounded by smaller figures, each with the head of an animal symbolizing one sin or another.

Further, it will be proposed to “admire” the scenes of punishments for sins - various fanaticism and self-mutilation are shown in all their glory. The figures do not produce a completely terrible impression due to the grotesqueness of the images, however, sensitive people should think about whether to go here. Thais themselves come to the temple at least once a year and bring children. It is believed that if you throw money into an urn next to a figure depicting a sin that you crave to atone for, karma will be cleansed. Time to visit from 8 to 18 hours, admission is free.

chicken king palace

This is what the common people call the Ban Sukhawadi complex - located on the seashore, a pink-blue and gold architectural ensemble built by billionaire Panya Choititawan. The rich man owns Saha Farms, Thailand's largest chicken supplier, hence the name of the palace. There is something to see on the territory: in addition to the six-story mansion itself, there are other buildings, as well as a chic park with ponds and huge flower beds, peacocks walk imposingly along the paths. The owner himself can also often be found in his residence. It is not easy to determine which style the building belongs to - it is a mixture of baroque, rococo and typical Asian motifs.

An explosive mixture also reigns in the interiors - from Mona Lisa reproductions to ancient knights and cheap plastic fruits. There is also a temple of the goddess of mercy Kwan-Yin and, of course, its own Buddha, sitting in the Buddha Tower about 10 meters high. On the territory you can have a bite to eat in a restaurant, watch a daily Thai show, explore the pompous interiors of the palace and other buildings, take a walk in the park. It is worth visiting 500 baht, with dinner and show - 800 baht, the complex is open from 8.30 to 18 hours daily.

Khao Chi Chan or Golden Buddha Mountain

A very interesting sight, which will take quite a bit of time to explore. At 130 by 70 meters, this seated Buddha image lined with gold plates on a mountain is the largest Buddha image in the world. Such an unusual gift was made by the son of King Rama IX for the 50th anniversary of his father's reign in 1996. The money for the gift was collected by the whole kingdom, then the image was applied with a laser for two days and the gold was laid out on a stencil for several more months.

Actually, there is nothing to do here except for photographs against the backdrop of the mountain, so the visit should be combined with a visit to other attractions. A commemorative photo in a frame, by the way, can be made right there for 100 baht. In addition to the photo center, there is a small park at the foot of the mountain. They don’t take money for visiting, Khao Chi Chan is open for tourists from 6 to 18 hours daily.

Big Buddha Hill

Big Buddha Hill or Big Buddha Temple is a 15-meter Buddha statue located on Pratumnak Mountain, to which 120 steps lead. The entrance to the stairs is guarded by seven-headed Nagas dragons. In addition to the golden statue itself, 20 smaller statues await you at the top, seven of which depict the days of the week. From the table next to it, you can calculate on which day of the week you were born, and make a donation to the corresponding statue.

In a separate building at the foot of the hill, for a small donation, the monk will conduct a purification ceremony and tie a rope around his wrist to fulfill a wish. Bells are also located here, hitting each of them with a stick, you can also make a cherished wish. By the way, when ascending and descending, the steps should be counted, and if the count is not set, it means that karma still needs to be cleaned. Here, in general, Thais come for cleansing and for Buddhist flavor, tourists, from the observation deck at the top, by the way, offer an excellent view of Pattaya. Admission is free, open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

floating market

Designed to show the life of the Thai village on stilts, very common in the kingdom earlier and still preserved in some places. In Pattaya, the village was built specifically as a tourist attraction. This is a very colorful attraction - guests are taken on boats past houses on both sides of the river, connected by footbridges. Shops are located in almost all houses, and various entertainment events are held on the bridges - dance performances, Thai boxing, massage. They sell mainly products and food, which can be bought not only in stores, but also directly from boats cruising along the river.

Thematically, the market is divided into four regions of Thailand with traditional products and crafts inherent in each - south, north, center and northeast. But you can have a delicious meal, take unusual photos and have a fun day. Entrance to the floating market is paid, 200 baht. Open daily from 10 am to 9 pm.

elephant village

Really interesting place with a noble history. The reserve was founded in 1973 as a shelter for old and sick animals, where they found health care, and still exists at its own expense, without the help of the state. The village began to gain popularity and today about 30 elephants live here and more than 100 service people work here. You will be amazed by the skills of these huge animals - in the village, elephants paint, play instruments, dance, drive cars and even give massages. There are three shows every day.

You can also feed the elephants and ride them on various walks through the jungle. This tour will not leave anyone indifferent. The reserve is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. A visit costs 650 baht, for 1200 baht you can take an hour walk around the territory on an elephant, there are longer walks.

The Tiffany and Alcazar Show

Most of the tourists in Thailand associate these shows with transvestites and, indeed, the percentage of people who have changed their sex in the Kingdom is frightening. Not visiting the shows organized by transvestites is like not trying a mango here. The show of transvestites does not imply anything shocking or hurting the dignity of sensitive citizens. This is a colorful, bright vocal and dance performance in lush scenery dressed in elegant costumes of men who have become women. Tiffany was the first show of its kind in the country and dates back to 1975. About 100 actors are involved in the production.

The Alcazar show is Tiffany's main competitor, they are located opposite each other, and have an almost identical concept of performances. At both shows you will sing, dance, show parodies of the culture and traditions of both Thailand and China, the USA and other countries. Spectators who have been to both shows note that Tiffany boasts a more solid and high-quality production, which also determines the price of tickets. Both shows take place daily: Tiffany at 18, 19.30 and 21 hours; Alcazar at 17, 18.30, 20 and 21.30. There are additional performances on weekends. Tickets for Tiffany cost from 800 to 1400 baht, for Alcazar from 500 to 1200 baht.

Alangkarn Theater

The Alangkarn Theater, unlike the show of transvestites, offers its viewers a full-fledged theatrical performance with the participation of professional actors. During the three-hour performance, you will learn about the main periods of the history of Thailand, imbued with the culture and traditional arts of this country. What the Thais did not use in the production - scenery and costumes, fireworks and special effects, even elephants take part in the performance. Alangkarn Theater only shows one show, but the level of performance is so high that it leaves an indelible impression in the memory of tourists. Definitely recommend to visit in Pattaya. Before the start of the performance, you can dine in the theater restaurant. The performance goes on every day except Wednesday, beginning at 18:00. Tickets from 800 to 1500 baht, depending on the selected seats and the availability of dinner.

Volkin Street

Volkin Street - this street in the central part of Pattaya has become calling card not only the resort, but the whole of Thailand. It is small, you can go through it all through in 5 minutes. During the day there are practically no people here, and at first glance it is impossible to determine what is the secret of the popularity of Volkin Street. Everything changes with the onset of the evening - the street is blocked for cars and on both sides of it are full of signs and endless bars, restaurants, nightclubs are deafening with music. This is the center of Pattaya's nightlife, which specializes mainly in entertainment for adults - striptease, Go Go, erotic shows. There are many prostitutes on Volkin Street, both in bars and on the street.

Once here, it is not necessary to succumb to the general mood and plunge into the abyss of debauchery. There are quite ordinary bars, restaurants and even hotels here, but you should not count on a quiet holiday in them. Until two in the morning, Volkin Street walks and makes noise. If you don’t expect a “continuation” vacation, you can walk along the pedestrian street, feel the Thai flavor, if you really want to, visit quite decent discos like Insomnia and Mixx, and finish your acquaintance with the dark side of Thailand.

These giant boulders resemble various animals and birds, organically fit into the landscape of the park and are carved either by nature or by human hand - it is difficult to make out. The collection was put together by a Thai businessman. Petrified trees look the most interesting, the age of which is hard to imagine, although the number in the name of the park looks more like an exaggeration. Anyway, it's very beautiful here and you get great pictures.

After walking around the park, it is worth visiting the Crocodile Farm, to look at the reptiles, of which there are 60,000 individuals here. You can participate in feeding crocodiles with chicken from a kind of fishing rod. The market impresses with a variety of fish and seafood, many of which you most likely have not seen before, although the standard set in the form of shrimp, mussels, octopus, crabs, cuttlefish, lobsters and all kinds of fish is present. Such an abundance is explained by the fact that ten meters from the Naklua market there is a fishing village - the path of the product to the final consumer is the shortest, which ensures the high quality of the goods.

In addition to the fish itself, they sell vegetables and fruits, dishes and even clothes. Right at the entrance there are counters with braziers and barbecues - for a small fee, your purchase will be prepared in the chosen way, and you can enjoy your food in the park nearby or take it with you. Today, camels, crocodiles, elephants, ostriches, various domestic animals, roe deer and even scorpions coexist in the zoo. Crocodile shows, tiger shows, elephant shows and pig races are held daily in Si Racha. A very spectacular performance of the "Queen of Scorpions" - without a shudder to look at the brave trainer, covered from head to toe with scorpions, will not work.

Watch the life of the inhabitants of the zoo - the Happy Family enclosure is especially interesting, where a tigress nurses her piglets, and a sow feeds her cubs. Visitors can also feed a tiger cub from a bottle and capture this moment in a photo, for a fee. The shooting gallery operating on the territory is curious - when a target is hit, pieces of fresh meat fall into the enclosure for the tigers. Zoo opening hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., an adult ticket costs 450 baht.

Nong Nooch Tropical Garden

This is one of the largest landscape gardening complexes in the world. The founder of the garden, Mrs. Nongnuch, conceived it in the image of French and Italian gardens, but Thai generosity and love for abundance took over, and now there is nothing here! The French regular garden is one of the most popular in Nong Nooch, an incredible orchid garden, a unique collection of palm trees (more than 1200 species!), a garden of cacti, dwarf trees, stones. You can admire the plants and trees while walking along the hanging walkways with awnings from the sun. From architectural buildings of interest are Stonehenge almost life-size, Thai national house, Chinese pagodas over the French garden. Of course, as in any other Thai park, Nong Nooch has a huge number of sculptures, animal figures and other decorative elements.

The garden of pots deserves special attention, the talent and imagination of the masters of which can only be envied. There is a small zoo here, and the elephant show is considered one of the best in all of Thailand. The second show that the garden is proud of is the traditional folklore show, which also takes place several times a day. From the latter, the Alley of Dinosaurs was opened, with huge statues of ancient animals. The exposition of the park is constantly updated. Silver Lake Vineyard

This is a small piece of Italy, surrounded by palm trees and against the backdrop of the Golden Buddha mountain. The vineyard belongs to a wealthy Thai family, who have made an enterprising business not only from the sale of wine, but also from the process of its production. In addition to the vineyard itself, guests will find a cozy Italian square with neat houses and a fountain in the middle, where you can have a bite to eat in a cafe or dine in a restaurant. On the shore of the lake there are romantic pavilions, tall cypresses, completely atypical for the landscape, grow. For a complete immersion in the atmosphere, it is worth taking a tour of the vineyard on a small trailer bus, which will make stops at the most picturesque places for photos - at the windmill and in flowering gardens.

There is an option to visit the wine cellar, without a tour. In the park, which, as usual, is decorated with flower beds, sculptures, fountains and benches, you can walk for free. And of course, you should try the local wine, which is also made according to Italian technology. The tour for 100 baht includes a visit to a wine cellar and a bottle of grape juice. Jewelry Factory Gems Gallery

As you know, Thailand is famous for precious stones - sapphires and rubies are mined in the kingdom. Here is one of the largest jewelry factories in the world, James Gallery, with branches in Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Phuket. Pattaya Branch covers an area of 15,200 square meters and employs more than 2,000 employees. In addition to the exhibition and sale itself, there is a museum here, which will be of interest not only to lovers of jewelry. This is a whole attraction, during which tourists in small trolleys go to improvised quarries and mines, observing the process of formation of minerals and their extraction. In the second hall, the work of jewelers is demonstrated, who create masterpieces of jewelry art right in front of the eyes of visitors.

Here you can see all the stages of jewelry making - shaping, cutting, polishing, stone processing. Finally, the next room contains decorations that can be purchased. Each one is unique in design and comes with a lifetime warranty. Prices are different, for example, silver jewelry is much cheaper, since silver is mined here in Thailand. After the tour, most likely combined with shopping, visitors can relax in the relaxation zone and drink soft drinks. Entrance to the factory, as well as transfer to and from it, regardless of the purchases made, is free. The exhibition-sale is open from 8 am to 5 pm.

Lan Island

The island closest to Pattaya, whose name translates as "coral". They go there for the real tropical nature of Thailand, snow-white sand and clear water, because the beaches of Pattaya itself cannot boast of this. Day trips to Lahn are popular among tourists, although the island is ready to receive guests for longer periods - the infrastructure necessary for this is available. The island is small, only 4 km long and 2-2.5 wide. In addition to 6-7 beaches, there is a small temple, a Buddha statue and a couple of viewing platforms.

At the same time, shops, cafes and restaurants are presented in sufficient quantities, as well as amenities and entertainment on almost all beaches, except for the most remote ones. You can get to Lana from Pattaya by speedboat for 150-300 baht or budget - by ferry for 30 baht. The latter method will take longer (about an hour), but you won’t have to wait for other passengers to pick up, the ferries run on schedule. You can also go to the island with a tour.

Samet Island

Located farther from Pattaya, 6.5 km from Rayong province on the mainland, it is about an hour and a half from the city. In order not to build complex logistics schemes, it’s easier to buy a transfer to Samet and back at Pattaya travel agencies, it will cost 500 baht per person. The island is small, 7 km long by 4 km at its widest part. The pier, the only temple and a small fishing village are located in the north of the island, rocky shores in the west, while the east is replete with long sandy beaches. Coming here should be for privacy and a beach holiday. As such, there are no attractions on the island, but there are plenty of hotels, restaurants and shops.

The sights of Pattaya on your own, which ones are better to visit on your own, and which ones to take an organized tour?

Excursions in Pattaya on your own, is it worth it?

There is an opinion on the forums about Thailand that it is always better to go on all the excursions on your own, that the guide only interferes and you can see more of everything.

To be honest, I don’t quite share this point of view. For example, if you decide to visit the Elephant Farm with a small child, then you can only get there by taxi. And why overpay for a taxi if the tour costs the same as the entrance ticket. Those. in fact, you will be picked up from the hotel for free and returned home - It is more profitable to take an excursion to such places.

I will add that many attractions in Pattaya have hidden places, which even long-livers do not know about, for example, almost no one knows where you can ride elephants, and you are also unlikely to find the long-necked Koren tribe yourself.

And the last point when it is worth taking an organized tour instead of an independent one is exclusive tours. So it will be very difficult for you to get to Monkey Island near Pattaya on your own, oyster farm and many other places where excursions are organized.

Otherwise, I am for independent excursions and a trip to the Sights of Pattaya on my own!

We tried to make a list of which Attractions Pattaya is better visit on your own. We highly recommend having such a list on hand if it suddenly becomes cloudy, or just in the mood to visit something new.

Khao Kheo Zoo

The zoo is a must visit! I do not advise taking a tour here, because. they pass many interesting places, i.e. with a tour you will see 50% of what is here. You are unlikely to be taken to the section to aquatic animals, where through transparent glass you can watch a swimming hippopotamus or penguins diving from the second floor, you may not even be stopped at the birdcage, where there are multi-level transitions with waterfalls and huge Toucans, you will be brought up to only one approach to the giraffe, where there is a crowd of Chinese, but they will not stop from the other side, where you can calmly admire all the animals from the Height. It is better to allocate the whole day for the Zoo and be sure to use public transport: own bike, taxi, rent an electric car at the entrance. Although at the very beginning you have to stop every 5 minutes and this is wildly annoying - then the distances increase dramatically to 5 kilometers.

Hill of the Golden Buddha

Excursions to the Golden Buddha are brought in so far as. Rather, they are simply imported to. They don’t deliver to the Beautiful Chinese Garden at all. Of course, if you take a tour, you can get free transport, because public transport does not go here. But if you eat on your own, you can visit the Golden Buddha, the Chinese Garden, the observation deck, and end the day at the chic Zucchini and Kondoma restaurant.

Aquarium Underwater World Pattaya

After the reconstruction in 2014, an excellent aquarium, I liked it much more than in Bangkok, and Pattaya costs 2 times more. If you are not spoiled by excellent oceanariums, you want to see how sharks swim above you, feed the fish from your hands, look at stingrays and much, much more - it is better to go by yourself. For the price you will not win, but you will have much more time. I spent probably 4 hours here, constantly returning to the previous halls or waiting for the next group to pass.

Nong Nooch Garden

One of the most interesting places in Pattaya! Many people come to this city just for this garden and I will tell you honestly that if you are not spoiled for travel and do not fly to Europe for the weekend, then this garden will blow your mind! It's definitely worth spending the whole day there. Nong Nooch garden is an amazing mix landscape design and inventions of the Thais. If you want to bring good photos from Thailand, then you should visit Nong Nooch Park.

Visit Nong Nooch on your own: It is located about 30 km from the city, far from the Tak-Tuk route. But at the park itself you can order a free transfer from your hotel. It will be quite interesting for children, because. there are many interactive sculptures that you can touch

Temple of Truth

One of the most famous temples Thailand and the most famous in Pattaya! One of the Thai millionaires initially builds the Thai wonder of the world and he gets a magnificent wooden temple! The level of skill is simply amazing, so I highly recommend going there. Every hour there is a tour in Russian, but I didn’t really like it, because. a lot of "statistics" and few live stories.

Visit the Temple of Truth on your own: Getting to the Temple of Truth is quite difficult, the road goes through small lanes and with constant turns, so either take a taxi or an online map. The cafe on site is expensive and tasteless, and the entertainment is expensive, so the kids might get bored.

Miniature Park Mini Siam

A park in which the main sights of the whole world are recreated in miniature. More precisely, the park is divided into 2 parts: Sights of the world and sights of Thailand. The park is especially beautiful in the evening, when all the sights are illuminated. That is why it is better to visit the park around 17.00, so you will be able to see everything both during daylight hours and at night illumination. Also at the entrance you can take a free parasol from the sun, because. There is very little shade in the area.

Visit Mini Siam Park on your own: It is located on Sukhumvit within the city, so you can easily get there by tuk-tuk. Ice cream and excellent brewed coffee are sold on the territory, and immediately next door is McDonald's, Karting, Plant Market, Thai Fighting Arena, where real serious tournaments are held! The kids love it here!

Crocodile Farm and Million Years Stone Park

From the crocodile farm I expected boring tourist place, but I was very wrong. The owners of the farm organized more than worthy entertainment! Most of all I liked to feed the crocodiles with chicken from a fishing rod, crocodile steak, rock garden! Disliked: Crocodile show.
Visit the crocodile farm on your own: You can get to it only by your own transport, which is of course a minus, but I wouldn’t go here with a guide, either. groups ran past us several times. The problem with the tours is that the guide has nothing to tell - everything is a remake, and there are a lot of excursions per day, so they just run with tourists along the main route, then they give them 30 minutes to walk on their own and immediately take them away. And it’s very cool to take a walk on the farm - there are active tigers, and there is a zoo with giraffes, and large playgrounds and much more. Therefore, it is better to order a transfer, but not an excursion. Worth a visit with children, for them there is a lot of interesting things.

Three Kingdoms Park (Park of the three kingdoms)

Very nice Chinese style theme park, there is a free car park museum very close by. Here you can rent Chinese national costumes and take great photos. Overall excellent quiet place with good views.

The Three Kingdoms Park belongs to the non-tourist attractions of Pattaya, besides it is located on its outskirts, so public transport does not go here. During the winter, we really liked to come here for a walk, but if I had been in Pattaya for just a couple of weeks, I would have chosen something else.

Tiger Zoo in Si Racha

As the name implies, this is a zoo where great attention is paid to tigers. Here you can feed tiger cubs from a bottle (this is the most mi-mi-mi, all the girls are delighted), play with them in enclosures, watch a tiger show. Of course, there are other animals: elephants, piglets, and goats. Everyone can be fed and everyone can ride. Except for the cubs, the zoo is inferior to Khao Kheo, but you can go.

Go to the Si Racha Tiger Zoo on your own: Children, of course, will be interested, but there are tigers + Thai gouging. If the child behaves inappropriately, then the tiger will rush. The zoo is 40 km away. from Pattaya and 7 from the highway. (But very close to Khao Kheo).

sheep farms

For 2016, there are 2 large sheep farms in Pattaya. One is simpler, where it is pleasant to relax: you launch the children into the rabbit aviary, and you yourself are located in the shade of the trees with a delicious cocktail. The second one is more touristy - the sheep there are like from a cartoon: perfectly clean, with very soft wool, on the very territory there are a large number of places for interesting photos, but it’s just like in a museum, don't sit and relax.

Silver Lake

Famous Thai vineyard. Very tasty grapes and homemade wine are grown and sold here. They can only be bought here. The park has become famous, because. he was the first to put interesting elements for photographs on his territory. Various flower swings, or a huge pumpkin with a huge watering can.

Visit Silver Lake on your own: little shade, large territory for walking outdoors. Everything else is very interesting.

elephant village

The elephant village is very ambiguous. It was generally the first attraction that we visited in Pattaya on our own. It turned out that there are several farms in Pattaya: about 3, and you can ride elephants almost everywhere. The best elephant show takes place in Nong Nooch Park. And the skating itself is rather boring, you sit and swing and you understand that for the next 30 minutes you will ride only 500 meters, i.e. you can actually see the destination you will be driving. But on the other hand, the guide told a story that there used to be a lot of elephants in Thailand and they were used for work, and then it was banned, and the mahouts could not feed the elephants, so they were simply shot. For example, in Cambodia and Laos at one time there were no elephants at all. The Thais came up with Elephant Farms so that tourists would come to admire and feed the animals. This is the only way to save these animals. Therefore, we try to feed the elephants anywhere =) They are cool.

Transvestite show: Alcazar show, Colosseum, Tiffany

All shows are about the same and all follow the same scenario: some popular song starts, a boy dressed as a girl comes out to it and opens his mouth, and other boys dressed as girls dance around. It used to be unusual for us, so the show got huge popularity, but now the boys dress up as girls, grow a beard and sing on TV, so the show is visited simply because of the image, and not because there is something interesting.

floating market

The place is interesting, but 100% touristic. Those. 3 channels were dug from scratch, merchants were launched there with small tourist items and a mark-up of 300%, set up around shops and called it all a floating market. I would go for the exotic, but everything is very sleek and very small. If you are in Thailand for the first time, then you can see it.

Visit the floating market on your own: children will be bored, you can get on a white tuk-tuk, which goes around Sukhumvit.

Dinosaur Park

Conceived as an amazing place for walks with children, when you meet moving dinosaur statues in full size among the jungle. But in 2014, the park is in decline. There are no visitors, the statues are falling apart, nothing moves, the entrance costs 500 baht. The only plus is that at the entrance to the Park there is a giant dinosaur skull, the size of an adult. He draws attention. But there is nothing to do inside!

Wat Yan Temple

The current temple complex. Of all the temples around Pattaya, Wat Yan is the most unusual. Many people admire its shape, many people admire its decorated bushes, many people really like it inside the temple. There are wax statues of mnas - they look amazing! More precisely, I would advise the temple itself to visit precisely because of them, because. Wat Yan, upon closer inspection, does not seem so chic, especially since you cannot go inside it, and the gates boarded up with boards generally spoil the impression. Behind the temple is a mountain with an observation deck and an imprint of the Buddha. The climb is hard and hot, but the view is not worth it. Therefore, this is not a mandatory part of the tour.

Visit Wat Yan on your own: public transport does not run, children may be bored, women need clothes with ankles and shoulders covered, men with knees covered.

chinese temple

Very close to Wat Yan is a Chinese temple. And this is what I recommend. To be honest, I am not a fan of art, or rather I do not understand it. But in the temple are collected very interesting sculptures- there are also soldiers from the Chinese terracotta army, there are Shaolin monks, there is a balcony with a gorgeous view of the mountains. Nearby there is a park where you can buy and release turtles into the lake, or feed the fish.

Visit the Chinese temple on your own: public transport does not run, children will be bored, you need to walk around the temple without shoes, all the inscriptions are in Chinese and English.

Rock image of the Golden Buddha

The largest rock image of Buddha in Thailand. It is laser cut into the rock and filled with gold leaf. Around there is a small park with gazebos. Everything is very clean and tidy. One of the elephant farms is hidden in the bus stop. It will have to be looked for, because. there are no identifying marks. It's a pity, but in the evenings the rock is not illuminated, otherwise it would be very beautiful.

Koh Lan Island and its observation decks.

Ko Lan is the closest island to Pattaya with paradise beaches. The swim is only 40 minutes. You can stay overnight on Koh Lan, and many people love it for its silence and the starry sky, because at night the island dies out, and in the morning you are the first to find yourself on the beach. I like to ride around Koh Lan on a bike, because. amazing views from its mountains!

Samet Island

Koh Samet is considered a national nature reserve and its beaches are considered to be some of the best in Thailand. In addition to tours to local hotels, tourists from Pattaya are also brought here to see good beaches. It has perfect white fine sand and magnificent blue sea. At night, tables are set up on the beach or blankets are spread out, and magnificent fire shows are arranged on the beach for everyone. I highly recommend that you go here, but not on a tour, but on your own for the weekend.

KoSichang Island

An island that is presented as a historical excursion. It really has something to see: This and Royal Palace, and the Katian temple, carved into the rock, and stunning observation platforms. There is also a small beach on the island, which is completely empty in weekdays and filled on holidays. Everyone leaves for the island from the city of Sirachi, where there is also a lot of interesting things to see (pool with giant turtles)

Lookouts in Pattaya

There are 2 official observation platforms in Pattaya. One round-the-clock is very close to the Golden Buddha on Pratamnak, and the second is near the port with a large luminous inscription Pattaya. The second one closes at nightfall. Of course, every skyscraper can be considered a viewing platform, and the restaurant in the Pattaya Park tower is also very popular.

Go to the observation decks on your own: Public transport does not go here, and there are no footpaths, many do not know and have to walk along the roadway. But when you get around each there is a lot of interesting things that you can’t see on an organized tour.

Temple of Hell and Heaven (Wat Saen Suk)

Located 60 kilometers from Pattaya. The place is strange, in it in the form of sculptures the punishments that await sinners are shown. And the sculptures are very creepy. A murderer whose stomach is torn open and a raven eats his intestines, or a woman who drinks hot lead for drunkenness. IN general place very unloving.
Visit the temple of heaven and hell on your own: there is no public transport, all signs are in Thai, rarely in English, better without children

chicken king farm

It is difficult to call this place an attraction, but the building is quite unusual, so it is often found in guidebooks. In fact, this is a banquet hall with a beautiful area. I wouldn't go specifically. The design of the territory is purely in Thai style: Standing antique statues, but for Thais they are too white, so the statues are dressed in real colorful clothes.

Go to the farm of the chicken king on your own: Children will be bored, you can take the White tuk-tuk, which goes along Sukhumvit. Entrance to the territory is paid.

Museum of 3D paintings (Art paradise pattaya)

Museum of interactive paintings, when the painting can go beyond its limits and you are invited to become a part of this painting. It is in Pattaya that the museum is very well thought out and they try to follow it so that there are no visible scuffs from frequent photographs, or peeling walls, etc. But on the other hand, such galleries have now begun to appear in all cities, including here in Russia (there are definitely already in St. Petersburg and Moscow).

Visit Art paradise pattaya on your own: can be reached by public transport, children really like it.

Cartoon Network Amazone

Forty kilometers from Pattaya, a water park was opened in 2014. Those. there is a small water park in Pattaya itself, near the Pattaya Park Hotel and there is a new Cartoon Networl Amazone. This is a big theme park with big amount slides.

Go to the water park on your own: white tuk-tuks go around Sukhumvit, of course the children will be interested, but the prices for the water park are still too big.

Aquapark "Romayana"

To be honest, when it opened, I did not even pay attention. He has such a name, some kind of soviet, as if a very rich Roma opened some kind of business for his Yana, we usually open beauty salons, but here is a water park, why not. But more than a year has passed and there are a huge number of positive feedback and almost no negative ones. The only complaint about the water park is the price and the buffet. The buffet is rubbish and everything is overpriced.

Open from 10:00 to 18:00
Price: 1500 baht per adult and 1100 baht per child. Locker for things 50 baht.
