How to get from Pattaya to Koh Chang. Why transfer Pattaya - Koh Chang is more profitable and more convenient than a bus. Search for tickets and flight schedules

From Pattaya we went to Koh Chang. We will spend 8 days on this island - 4 days at Cae Bae beach and 4 days at Lonely beach.

I bought a transfer from Pattaya to Koh Chang in advance back in Russia. It cost me $24 per person. The transfer includes a minibus to the ferry + ferry. You can also buy such a transfer at any travel agency in Pattaya, of which there are a great many.

At 7:30 am on April 25, 2017, a minibus picked us up right at the hotel reception, we plunged into the salon and went to Koh Chang. There were no Russian speakers in the cabin, the driver hardly spoke English, but we had no problems with this.

Ferry to Koh Chang is located in the province of Trat. The pier is called Koh Chang Ferry Pier. It took us about 5 hours to get to the ferry. On the way there was one technical stop at a local cafe.

Waiting for the ferry to Koh Chang

Ferries run frequently, every 30 minutes. Swim close, about 20 minutes. From the pier we can already see the mysterious island

After about 20 minutes, our ferry approached, we drove into it directly on a minibus with a driver.

On the ferry, he let us off the bus and we went up to the upper deck. The ferry is very large, many are transported to the island in their cars.

Travel time has flown by unnoticed and now we are mooring on Koh Chang

We descend from the ferry on our own, the driver will pick us up near the pier to take us further to the hotels

15 minutes later we arrived at our Sea Hotel view resort and Spa

Many tourists shortly after their arrival do not withstand the intensity of passions and tend to go somewhere. Where there is silence, sea, palm trees, sand and nothing more. For example, on . Just a few days of relaxation on its beaches have a beneficial effect on both the body and the soul. By the way, the sea there is much cleaner than at. This method is not at all budgetary, since its cost can reach 5,000 baht for one car. True, it is the most comfortable, because you can rent a taxi right at the airport.

This expensive method also includes not budget transfers organized by small carrier companies, where the cost depends on how many people will gather at a specific time. This option will be more or less tolerable in price if there are at least 5-7 people in your direction.

  1. Car rent

This option is suitable only for active travelers who do not stay in one place for a long time and are ready to go anywhere and as much as they want. A car is rented by those who, in addition to Koh Chang, plan to visit any other resort places and cities.

  1. Airplane

Another non-budget way to travel to Koh Chang. Of course, in just an hour you will cover the distance from Bangkok to the airport of Trat province, but the cost of such a quick transfer is not the cheapest - about 3,800 - 4,000 baht.

Upon arrival at the airport, you should “catch” a taxi, songteo or use the services of a public minibus that go to the ferry. Further on the ferry you overcome the distance to the island by sea, and then again use the services land transport.

2.Transfer

This method is a standard group transfer (not the cheapest, but very convenient), which allows you to easily get from anywhere in Pattaya to your chosen hotel on the island of Koh Chang. Ferries to Koh Chang

As it has already become clear, to get to the beaches resort island without using the ferry is impossible.

There are several piers on the mainland, from where you can get to one of the piers of the island on the available ferries, and from each of them the travel time varies, although they are located quite close to each other. For example, from Koh Chang Pier, ferries leave every 30-35 minutes and are also on the way for about 30 minutes. The schedule of their movement is on the site in front of the pier. Ferries sail from Center Point Pier for about an hour and depart only once an hour between 06.00 and 19.00 daily.

The cost of the ferry crossing is 80 baht one way.

Remarkably, on Koh Chang itself, you will find more land transport to get to the hotel at the Koh Chang pier.

When planning a trip to Koh Chang, be sure to keep in mind that according to the schedule, the last ferry to the island leaves around 19.00. If you don’t have time before this time, you will have to return to Trat and look for a hotel for the night, and continue the trip in the morning.

How to get from Phuket island?

From Phuket, the most comfortable way to get to Koh Chang is by plane to nearby airport, and then the most previously described convenient way. From Phuket to Trat province, Bangkok Airways planes periodically run.

As for a completely land travel from Phuket, the distance of about 1,200 kilometers between these islands (on land roads) will still not be to everyone’s liking, and anyway, from Phuket you can’t get to Koh Chang without passing ferry crossing. If you drive in a rented car, then the approximate travel time is about 17 hours. It is this and that no direct scheduled buses no between these points make such travel far from popular.

First you must decide for what purpose you are going to the island. If you just want to get acquainted with it, relax for 2-3 nights from noisy Pattaya, and then come back, then it might make sense to just buy a tour. It includes transfer and accommodation, i.e. solves the most important questions. But if you went on your own, then the whole first day would be spent looking for suitable housing.

Those who are going to stay on the island for more long time, it is better to get on your own and then we will tell you how to do it.

Can only be reached by coming from the buses that pass Pattaya along the Sukhumvit highway. There are very few of them during the day, moreover, they may simply not notice you among the traffic and not stop. There is also no exact timetable. Usually pass Pattaya at about 11:30. The ticket costs about 200 baht.

In fact, no one travels this way and we do not recommend it to you. It is longer than all the others, and in general it is not a fact that you will leave.

If you are planning to go somewhere by bus in Thailand, then.

Minivan from Pattaya to Koh Chang

There are no minibus stops at the resort either, everyone orders a transfer through street travel agencies, which are at every turn in Pattaya. This should be done the day before the trip, it is advisable to go in the morning, and not in the late afternoon, in order to be guaranteed to buy a ticket.

The ticket price from Pattaya to Koh Chang includes a transfer from your hotel to Ao Thammachat Pier and almost always a ferry ticket. Many companies also offer a ride to the hotel on the island.

Minibus can be ordered in many transport agencies ah, but we will recommend only two, where the most low prices and whose services we used more than once.

The first is called 35 Group Pattaya. It is located on Third Street, about 50-70 meters from its intersection with South. Official website 35grouptour.com.

Only in this office you can buy a ticket at the lowest price. We saw a VKontakte group with the same name, but these are just intermediaries (by the way, Russians), their prices are much higher.

If you come to the office on Third Street, then the ticket prices will be as follows (all include transfer from your hotel in Pattaya):

  • One way to Ao Thammachat Pier - 400 baht (includes ferry ticket).
  • Round trip to Ao Thammachat pier - 720 baht with ferry.
  • From hotels in Pattaya to the hotel on Koh Chang - 550 baht one way and 1050 baht round trip.

Usually minibuses leave twice a day - at 7 a.m. and at 9 a.m. low season sometimes a flight at 9 am is canceled. And a flight at 11 am or at 1 pm can be added to the high one. All this will be told to you in the office.

In addition, with the company 35 Group Pattaya you can get to the island,,. This is very convenient if, for example, you want to go to Samet first and then to Koh Chang or vice versa. Tickets to these islands (including a return ticket to Pattaya) can be bought at one office.

Tickets are sold with an open date, which is valid for a month. The day before the return, you need to call the company by phone and warn her. However, all this will be told to you in detail when buying tickets.

We recommend buying a ticket with a transfer to a hotel in Koh Chang, even if you are traveling light or have not yet decided where to stay. In the latter case, simply name the beach and you will be dropped off in its central part. We recommend a transfer to the hotel (or to the beach). learned on own experience having trouble finding a self-guided transfer at Koh Chang Pier. Yes, when disembarking from the ferry, they are on duty, which go to the beaches. But nowadays almost everyone takes the included transfer to the hotel and the songthaews are empty. Drivers refuse to drive if there are only 3-4 people in the cabin. Therefore, you often have to wait for the arrival of the next ferry, or maybe two. The author of the article thus sat on the pier of Koh Chang more than an hour before there were about a dozen passengers and the songthaew was on its way at a fixed fare. Of course, the driver at the very beginning offered to rent his car as a taxi for 300-400 baht. If there are 5-6 people, then 100 baht will be taken from each, despite the fact that before nearest beach White Sand fare is 50 baht. In general, it is cheaper to take a transfer to the hotel in Pattaya, and in this case you will get to the place faster.

The total travel time from Pattaya to the hotel on Koh Chang is 5 hours (3.5-4 hours to the pier, waiting for the ferry, 30 minutes by ferry, 15-40 minutes from the pier to the hotel).

There is also a second transport company with low prices - Burapha Bus. The office is located next to the Sukhumvit highway (on Soi Sukhumvit 51), opposite the one-story Tesco Lotus. We have shown the exact location on the map below.

They send minivans to Koh Chang, Trat, Rayong and Chanthaburi. A ticket to Koh Chang costs 500 baht and includes a ferry and transfer to your hotel on the island. But they don’t pick up from the Pattaya hotel, you have to get to their office on your own. This company is more suitable for those who live in the area Central street or close to the Sukhumvit highway.

Excursion from Pattaya

If you want to get to know the island as a first approximation, then you can buy a tour to Koh Chang in Pattaya with a transfer included (you can agree on the number of nights of accommodation and stay there). The cost starts from 2500 baht for 1 night.

Taxi

If you are used to driving with maximum comfort or suddenly woke up in the morning and irresistibly wanted to go to the island right now, then you can take a taxi (recall that you need to pay for a minivan per day). Taxis can be ordered at the hotel, negotiated in the city or.

Koh Chang is wonderful. This is one of the most picturesque and big islands Thailand.

However, to enjoy this island, it is not enough to come here with organized tour for one night, because all you really see is a 6-8 hour drive, several attractions (waterfalls and temples), the hotel is not really best beach and not even the best dinner.

The first time I got to Koh Chang was with an organized tour: at 6 am we were picked up from the hotel, at 4 pm we were on the island. It was a very tiring excursion, although an interesting one. We were brought to the Erawan waterfall (here you could swim with carps. The water, by the way, is icy)

To the temple on Monkey Mountain. The temple is beautiful and big. Monkeys are hungry and angry. Especially large ones. One even attacked my friend and bit her on the finger (my friend is alive) because out of ignorance she went to the monkeys cheerfully waving a bag of food (monkey food is sold nearby in a shop).

In general, don't wave your food in front of hungry monkeys. It is fraught.

Despite interesting and educational excursions, almost 10 hours on the road is a very, very long time. Especially if you have to spend only a night on the island and the next morning it’s time to start on the way back, albeit with a stop at the beautiful Koh Wai.

The most correct thing is to organize a train to the island yourself.

It is not difficult.

There are many hotels on Koh Chang, you can choose any, depending on your financial capabilities. Most of them are presented on booking.com , [link] or on the website [link]

Arranging a transfer is also not difficult, you can order from [link]

or in any of the transport agencies, of which there are a great many throughout Pattaya or Bangkok. And from Suvarnabhumi airport the bus is running.

We usually stay at some hotel in Pattaya, live there for a couple of days, and then order a transfer and leave for Koh Chang.

The transfer is a small minibus that arrives at the agreed time at the hotel and takes one stop to the ferry.

The stop is a small road complex - a couple of shops, a restaurant, a toilet, a parking lot. Even organized tours stop here.

The toilet is very picturesque, it is impossible not to show it. It is very clean (they even ask you to take off your shoes and put on "duty" slippers) and free (a modest tip jar is on the tables near the entrance)

On the ferry, everyone gets out of the cars. People go to upper deck, buses and cars at the bottom. Bags with valuable things better pick up (recommended by all the drivers and guides we traveled with).

There is a shop on the ferry. You can buy necks, ice cream, something to eat.

When ordering a transfer, be careful. Sometimes cheaper you can buy delivery only to the ferry. Further on the island you will have to move on your own. We usually buy delivery directly to the hotel. It costs a little more, but saves you the hassle of finding a tuk-tuk near the ferry. You are unlikely to reach the beach you need on foot. Those. Of course, if you set a goal, you will reach it, but still Koh Chang is one of the largest islands and it will be very tiring.

Besides being on Koh Chang beautiful beaches there are also many excursions that you must visit.

I liked the tours the most. coral islands and bathing on elephants.

Before the excursion to the coral islands, you are picked up by a transfer (usually an open songthaew) and taken to one of the piers.

This is the crankcase we sailed on.

they show us the route (probably in case we get lost, we knew which way to swim back)

During the trip, the boat stopped periodically and we snorkeled. There really is something to see. Corals and fish are almost more beautiful than those that can be seen in the Red Sea.

The funniest thing is organized groups the Chinese - they swim like a "train" - holding on to each other's vests.

For lunch they land on one of the islands. Lunch is meager - rice with vegetables, bread, tea / coffee, fruit - but it is quite enough.

The tour takes approx. 4 hours. Then everyone is taken to the hotels.

Bathing on elephants made an indelible impression on me. Until now, my friend and I do not understand how we decided to climb into the dirty muddy water along with a crowd of elephants. But we got a lot of vivid emotions (it’s good that only emotions and no infection - I probably won’t dare to repeat it)

It all starts simply with an elephant ride through the jungle. The walk is generally ordinary (I have already ridden several times in other places), the only thing they ask is to take off your shoes

And then they bring a muddy and shallow stream to the shore, everyone undresses to their swimsuits and, sitting on the necks of the elephants, goes to the middle, where the elephants, under the supervision of the mahouts, begin to frolic - they pour water over those who sit on their necks, try to throw them into the water or dive under them themselves. water along with the rider.

An amazing adventure, but I won’t repeat it for sure I won’t dare already

In the evenings most coastal hotels bring tables to shore. Somewhere there is live music, and somewhere there is a fire show, and somewhere you can just lie on the sunbeds and smoke a hookah. The perfect end to a hot and busy day.
