Bays on Koh Samui. Choosing the best beach on Koh Samui

This article is ideal for those who are planning to visit the island and want to choose the best beach on Koh Samui that they like the most.

There are a lot of beaches on Koh Samui and for each of you there is a zest on one of them that you will like the most and make you stop at the one that, in your opinion, is more interesting due to its uniqueness or for any other conditions for relaxing on German

The beaches described below by me are not complete and exhaustive. I have chosen only those that, in my opinion, are more conducive to myself.

Also, if you are going on vacation, you can book a hotel for yourself through the Roomguru service, it will immediately show you in which booking system the hotel will cost less!

Hotels on Koh Samui

Here is a list of those best beaches on this island that I turned my attention to:

#1: Ban Thai Beach

Ban Tai Beach is located in the northeast of the island itself and is popular place holidays for parents with children. The Mimosa Hotel is located near the beach, which is why it was called Mimosa Beach in the common people. It is located away from all the attractions of the island. Here, as a rule, not crowded, clean sand and good entry into the water.

- One of the disadvantages of the eastern beach is that it passes not far from the coast, a strip of algae and a rocky bottom 50 meters from the coast.

- But if you go to its western part, then there are all the conditions for your bathing.

Coral Cove Beach is located in a secluded bay, it is only 100 meters long. It is surrounded by rocky shores and huge boulders lie on both sides of the beach, which gives it a special atmosphere.

The beach itself leaves a pleasant impression of tranquility. The sand on it is large, yellowish in color. The water itself has a shade of bright blue.

The peculiarity of this beach is that the road to it is at the top, much higher than sea level, and you have to go down the stairs to it.

There are three Hotels in Coral Cove Chalet near the beach. There is a small cafe. The only minus it has is that there is practically no shade to hide from the scorching sun, and there are also many stones scattered in the water, scattered not far from each other.

The beach is located in the north-east of the island. The beach itself is clean, the hotel staff take care of it very well. The place for normal swimming is not so much, since there are many small stones and fragments of corals in the water to the right and left of it. So you have to be careful when swimming there.

Choeng Mon Beach is located in the northeastern part of Koh Samui.
The sea here is almost always calm, even during the wave season (from November to mid-February). The entrance to the water is gentle, and the water itself is quite transparent. True, silty areas can be found 30-40 m from the coast.
The most the best part the beach is central, with a wide sandy line and a pleasant entry into the sea. You can swim here even at low tide.
On the outskirts of the beach there are a lot of stones and corals, and South part and not suitable for swimming.

Choeng Mon is one of the best beach destinations among tourists. And the reasons are quite obvious. With its vibrant nightlife, its powdery white sand, its palm trees, restaurants and hotels, all this and more makes Choeng Mon one of the best beaches on Koh Samui.

Choeng Mon Beach is located in a beautiful bay and is ideal tourist place for couples or those who are looking for a secluded, quiet time for themselves and their families.

Chong Mon attracts huge crowds of people of all ages. The best sand castles are made from the sand on Chonggmon. Its restaurants and cafes offer excellent cuisine designed for any visitor.

Bang Por Beach is also located in the north of the island, between the beaches of Thong Plu Bay on the west side and Ban Thai Beach on the east side.

The beach itself stretches for 5 km with various exit points to it from the ring road. It is usually quiet and calm on it, it is suitable for those who like quiet and secluded places. There are many restaurants and hotels that are located along the entire beach, mainly on its western side. Between April and September, the tides are not high, which is not good for swimming, as it becomes very shallow. It should be borne in mind that there are a lot of stones in the water that are not always visible.

There are no annoying salesmen here trying to sell you something. It offers a magnificent view of the island of Phagan and the island's national marine park. Here you can watch how local fishermen cast their nets early in the morning or at night.

Overhanging palms and other trees are good for shade, they also have swings and generally look like a tropical paradise. Given that this is a budget resort, this is excellent value for money.

Living on Koh Samui, of course, we visited almost everything beaches of Koh Samui๐Ÿ™‚ I am often asked which beach is the best on Koh Samui, which beach of the island Koh Samui is better just suitable for families with children, which Koh Samui beach to choose for youth recreation, which beach is best to settle for the winter?

I can say that we are all different and what one likes is not necessarily like another. In this article, a small overview of the beaches of Koh Samui. Please note that this is my subjective opinion ๐Ÿ™‚

Koh Samui beaches on the map

The beaches of Koh Samui: a review

Let's start in order with the most popular beach ๐Ÿ˜Ž

We move along the ring road of the island to the south. The next beach is the beach or South Chaweng. You can get to the beach only through hotels or through the coastal restaurant Bistro Samui. The beach is long, wide coastline, fine white sand, pleasant waves in winter and complete calm in summer. Good for families with children. On the left near the stones you can swim with a mask. This beach is my favorite, and indeed the best beach on Koh Samui! If I come to Koh Samui on vacation, I will choose Chaweng Noi Beach, and I advise it to all my friends! Detailed article about hotels on Chaweng Noi beach.

Further south is the beach - this very romantic, secluded beach is only 130 meters long, located in a small bay and surrounded on both sides by rocky cliffs and bizarre boulders. There are only three hotels on the beach. The sand on the beach is yellow and coarse, the sea is almost immediately deep. Waves in winter. Suitable for lovers of romance. This beach is also one of our favorites. But also not for life, but for relaxing on the beach and swimming in the sea.

Beach or Thongtakian or Silver Beach - that's how many names one beach has - a beautiful beach in a cozy bay with a length of about 300 meters. There are several hotels on the beach, soft sand, lush vegetation. Minus - the entrance to the sea is not very good, there are stones and algae in the sea. Beach for quiet a relaxing holiday. Read about all the hotels on Crystal Bay beach.

Beach - the length of the coastline is about 4 km, just like Chaweng beach is divided into three parts: northern, central and southern. The tides are pronounced in the northern part. The central part is ideal for swimming. The sand is yellowish and coarse, in winter there are often waves. Lamai Beach is not as party and noisy as Chaweng, but all the infrastructure is present here, there is a market, shops, Tesco Lotus, Makro, many restaurants and cafes. Prices are generally not high. Lamai Beach is an ideal choice for both leisure and long stays. It was Lamai that I chose to live on Koh Samui. About our house on Lamai.

To the south along the ring road is the beach, which I call the beach for myself, because. it is located near the hotel of the same name. On the map, this is Natien Beach, the eastern part. The beach is very beautiful, but not swimmable. Very shallow and rocks in the water. But what soft sand and magnificent views! There is a kai station on the beach. Aquarium and tiger zoo nearby. The perfect place for kitesurfing. In general, I really like this beach ๐Ÿ˜Ž

the islands - Laem Set, Bang Kao, Thong Krut - are sparsely populated, a lot of natural debris and not suitable for swimming: shallow, a lot of stones in the water. Beautiful nature and desertedness are the main pluses of this place.

We follow further to the west of Koh Samui and get to the beach - a magnificent beach for a quiet, relaxing and romantic getaway. There are almost no people, the hotels are located far from each other. Entertainment, shops too. Incomparable nature, palm trees, but there is a minus - a shallow sea. You don't have to go far to buy. Since this beach is located in the west of Koh Samui, you can watch amazing sunsets here. I would live on this beach in retirement, in a good expensive hotel ๐Ÿ˜Ž

The next beach to the west, immediately after the cape with a naval base, is the beach or Tong Yang. Long beach with white, fine sand, magnificent landscapes, palm trees and a few hotels. Quiet, calm, but also a problem - the sea is shallow ... I would choose this beach for living with children. Nearby in 10-15 minutes drive - Nathon, where there are many shops and other necessary infrastructure. Beautiful sunsets on Lipa Noi Beach.

Beach - this beach is located in the north of Koh Samui and is very popular with Russian winterers with children. I do not argue - the beach itself is very beautiful. You can find a place in the shade under a palm tree and in the sun. Swimming is comfortable - there are no stones in the sea and almost immediately deep. The sand is coarse and yellow. Waves are rare in winter. It often happened like this: there is a storm on Chaweng and Lamai - you canโ€™t swim, but there are no waves on Maenam Beach. There are many long-term rental houses in the beach area. But I donโ€™t know why, I didnโ€™t like the area very much. In the evening, silence, emptiness. There is nowhere to go, there is no walking street with shops or restaurants. Prices are higher than in Lamai. A big plus is that there are two markets: morning and evening. In the morning market prices are very low. The beach is ideal for families with children who go to bed at 9-10 o'clock. In this area, several rivers flow into the sea, so there are a lot of mosquitoes.

The beach is a continuation of Maenam beach. The beach is located on a cape and belongs to an expensive hotel, but anyone can come and swim on it. The beach is ideal for photo shoots on Koh Samui. Beach W is very clean, the sand here is large and yellow, the right bay is deep and suitable for comfortable swimming, there are few people.

The beach - I liked it much more than Maenam beach. The coastline itself is very similar to Maenamskaya: coarse yellow sand, palm trees near the water, deep sea. But the area is much nicer - there are many restaurants, bars, where to walk in the evening - there is even something like a promenade along the sea, which is very rare for Koh Samui ๐Ÿ˜Ž On Fridays - famous. Lots of expensive hotels. Prices for everything in the Bophut beach area are quite high. We were struck by the prices in the market - very expensive fruits, so we went to the market on Maenam Beach. Very close to Big C supermarket.

The beach, or as it is also called Big Buddha beach (due to the location of the Big Buddha statue near it) - is located in the northeast of the island in the same bay as Bophut beach. There are several piers on the beach from which you can get to Koh Phangan. It is better to swim and relax in the middle part of the beach, the sea here is immediately deep, the sand is quite fine. There are many nice cafes on Bang Rak, the famous fish market, Tesco Express. Bang Rak is a good place to live or spend the winter on Koh Samui.

Beach - a small beach in the northeast is located in the bay of the same name, in which there are only two hotels and a few villas. There are no shops, you can eat in the restaurant at the hotel. The sand on this beach is fine, the water is clear, there are not many people. The minus of the beach is that there is almost no shade and therefore it is very hot. You can go swimming several times if you live somewhere nearby ๐Ÿ˜Ž

The beach is located in the northeast of the island, not far from Chaweng beach. Choeng Mon Beach is very popular with families with children. Fine white sand on the beach, shallow sea, not a large picturesque island nearby. There is all the necessary infrastructure - shops, restaurants and Chaweng beach is not far away. The only negative is that in January there were a lot of people on the beach. Like in the Crimea in the summer! And in summer the whole beach was full of yachts.

The beaches of Koh Samui: conclusions

So, let's sum up the beaches of Koh Samui: perfect beaches it doesnโ€™t happen, everywhere has its pros and cons ๐Ÿ˜Ž The way the beach looks depends very much on the season, the presence of storms and the sun. In sunny weather, all the beaches of Koh Samui are beautiful, but in the rain they look dull. From November to February, Chaweng, Chaweng Noi, Coral Cove and Lamai have quite strong waves. In summer, all the beaches are calm.

For a long stay, I would choose the beach Lamai, if I had not found a house on Lamai, then the beach Bophut or as a last resort Bang Rak. If you live for more than a year, then you can rent a house quite cheaply in Nathon while bathe ride on Lipa Noi.

For swimming and relaxing, three beaches are ideal for me: Chaweng Noi, ban thai,Coral Cove.

For contemplation - the beach near the hotel and Taling Ngam.

If I went to Koh Samui on vacation for a couple of weeks, I would stop either on the beach Chaweng Noi or on the beach Lamai.

In general, come to Koh Samui and make up your mind about all the beaches of the island ๐Ÿ˜Ž

So in order. I will talk about those beaches that, from my point of view, are worth visiting. I liked the following beaches and I personally visited all of them. Some are good for hanging out, some for meditation and relaxation, and most are good for swimming.

Chaweng beach(Chaveng Beach)- the most central and popular on Koh Samui, a kind of analogue of Phuket's Patong Beach. Situated on east coast islands - you can meet the dawn. As for me, Chaweng is suitable for swimming starting from its central part and further south. A good gentle entry into the sea, a clean bottom without stones, more suitable for couples with children. In favor of this, soft and fine white sand is pleasant to wander on. Along the edge farthest from the water, the beaches are all lined with sunbeds and cafes, you can only use sunbeds if you live in the appropriate hotel. Not a fan of lying on the beach - so it didn't bother me at all.

Excellent infrastructure, a lot of expensive and not very hotels, as a result, many package tourists rest here. Chaweng is crowded even in the "low" season. As a result, there are many merchants of all kinds of food. It storms here mainly from November to January, the rest of the year is calm.

There are a lot of all kinds of marine entertainment here - jet skis, bananas and catamarans.

Silence on Chaweng comes in the morning - from 9.00 to 11.00 in the morning you can safely enjoy high-quality sand, sea and silence. At this time I recommend to visit.

Chaweng Noi beach(Chaveng Noi Beach)- in fact, this is the southern part of Chaweng beach. She doesn't look at all like central chaweng and personally I vote for this beach with both hands. This is where I lived. Pros: there is no such movement as in central Chaweng, not such a shallow and gentle entry into the water, fewer people, there are practically no merchants. Close to Lamai beach and the market where we bought grilled seafood. Our hotel was located above the road and this did not bother us at all - we were not tied to a specific beach and looked at 75% of everything that can be seen on Koh Samui.

Lamai beach (Lamai Beach)- Another popular beach, which is more preferred by independent travelers. Mostly in the vicinity of the beach there are inexpensive bungalows and hotels. The sand is larger and for some reason you fall into it, on Chaweng it is smaller and denser, nevertheless, the beach was somehow hooked. Probably because it is less commercialized than Chaweng. There is no special beauty, there are palm trees over the sea. Spacious and serene, the people are much less than in Chaweng. In my ranking, I put it in 2nd place. From here it is most convenient to get to many attractions of Koh Samui - waterfalls, temples and simply beautiful places.

Coral Cove

Very picturesque bay, between the beaches Chaweng NoiAndLamai Beach. Only 130 meters of sand. main feature The beaches are huge beautiful boulders of coral origin. The landscape is somewhat reminiscent of the Seychelles, between the boulders is full of secluded places. Ideal for lovers of silence, only the sea, sand and boulders, there is nothing else. The nearest bar-restaurant is upstairs, along the Samui ring road, there is also Coral Hotel Cove, whose bungalow offers excellent views of the Gulf of Thailand. You can get to the beach only through the territory of the hotel, many people think that the beach also belongs to the hotel - this is not so. There are no private beaches on Koh Samui, you can freely walk and sunbathe and swim. Nevertheless, strangers practically do not go to this beach - which makes it just an ideal place for a secluded atmospheric vacation.

A big plus of the beach is a secluded place, but before an active party and nightlife very close, you can get to the nearest party on Lamai or Chaweng on songteo (local view public transport) in 10 minutes for a small amount.

Thongtakian

This is the most beautiful bay on Koh Samui, in my opinion. She is especially beautiful from above. Finding it is easy, after Coral Cove if you go south, the ring road turns sharply in the area of โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹the Thongtakian hotel, Cristal is also nearby Bay Resort, La Mer Samui Resort and Samui Yacht club. There are signs everywhere, so it's hard to miss. The path to the beach goes towards the sea, follow the signs of the hotels and get to the beach.

The bay is also called Silver beach or Crystal Bay. At both sides picturesque rocks, and underwater coral reef. If you're lucky, you can meet turtles or small rays. Mask and fins are a must. The beach itself is unusually green, in addition to palm trees, it is full of other deciduous trees that create a cozy and private atmosphere.

Here, white very fine as powder sand and clear sea. On the left side of the glibok bay, literally immediately, there are boulders nearby, on the right, shallow water is ideal for children, for families with children there is expanse.

There are cafes on the shore, a few restaurants of a good standard are further away, including the famous The Cliff, naturally with a steep sea view.

Laem Set

The place is very quiet and unpopular with the mass tourist. Located south of the beaches of Hua Thanon, on Cape Laem Set. A very gentle entry into the water, as a result of an unpresentable view at strong low tides. An absolute plus can be considered a long coral reef away from the coast. In addition to snorkeling, the beach is ideal for active sports - kiting or windsurfing.

The place is located near the mega-popular Lamai beach. The eastern part of the beach is a great place to watch the sunrise.

From here it is convenient to get to the waterfalls of Na Muang 1 and Na Muang 2, near the Aquarium, Butterfly Garden and Tiger Zoo.

Other attractions include Buddha's Footprint (see map)

Bang Kao and Natien (Bang Kao, Natien Beach)

This is the south of Koh Samui. From the west, the beaches are closed by Cape So (Laem So), on which is located the most south point islands, and from the east - Laem Set beach.
Cape So is the best place to watch the sunset, although the Surat Thani coast, which is in full view from here, interferes with beauty. In addition to sunsets, the sunrise is clearly visible from here, which is often no less beautiful than the sunset.

Bang Kao has a gentle entrance to the water, soft and pleasant sand. Ideal for morning walks and relaxing alone. Nearby is a small coral reef where you can dive.

Not far from the beach in the depths of the island is the temple of Wat Khunaraam. He is famous for the mummified monk who died more than thirty years ago during another meditation in the lotus position.

Another attraction is the Laem Sor Pagoda, which looks very beautiful in the evening light against the backdrop of the turquoise sea, it is located on Cape So (Laem Sor). On the same cape is the White Pagoda (Khao Chedi)

Samrong Bay

This is the most expensive bay of the island, the northernmost bay, and from here it is the closest to another paradise island, Koh Phangan. Two hundred meters of coarse yellow sand and picturesque rocks, a gradual increase in depth - a brief description of the beach. Few tourists know about this bay, so it is also called the Secret Bay.

Nearby is the airport and airplanes - the only thing that worries people who are vacationing here, but you quickly get used to them.

Here is the most expensive hotel of the island Arayaburi Boutique Resort. The entrance to the beach is through the hotel, you can leave your car upstairs and not worry about anything. The beach is miniature, less than 200 meters long and very picturesque. This is the most quiet beach on the island, there are plenty of tables around where you can sit and watch the sea. It is better to swim in slippers, sharp fragments of corals and shells come across.

In addition, there are a couple of beautiful beaches on Cape Samrong.

Choeng Mon

Located in the northeast of the island. The beach is surrounded by greenery and is about a kilometer long. The sand is fine coral in places alternates with coarser sand. The beach is conditionally divided into two bays, the entrance to the water is convenient with a gradual increase in depth. The water is clear, and the bottom is cleared of small corals and cameos. Plus the beach - calm and clear water.

The coastline is lined with mostly high-end hotels. The beach is equipped with sunbeds, showers and toilets. Full of cafes, restaurants and of course massage corners. Suitable like many Samui beaches for family vacation and those who like to dine right on the beach in the restaurant.

There is no active nightlife and related entertainment. There is a golf club nearby. The landmark of the beach is a huge figure of a football player made of coconuts.

Maenam Beach

This beach is located in the north of the island. It also offers views of Koh Phangan. Coarse yellow sand, a gentle entrance and a length of about 5 kilometers. The water is cloudy, as two rivers flow into the bay in this area. At low tide, the bottom is not exposed, there is enough depth. Not far from the beach there is a morning market, in general, the concentration local residents here is the highest. This area is good for a long stay on the island. It is here that it is ideal to observe the life of local residents and this, in my opinion, is the most authentic place on Koh Samui. Suitable for those who want to immerse themselves in the environment and live a little among the Thais.

Bophut

Bophut beach is located in the north of the island, east of the beach Maenam Beach, and borders on neighboring beaches - Maenam and Big Buddha.

Length sand spit about three kilometers. The sand here is about the same as on Maenam.

Bophut Beach is best known for its unique cafes, signature restaurants and concept boutique hotels.

Along main street On the beach there are many small Thai shops, most of which are handmade. The place is quite crowded, but pleasant. Here is the most delicious Thai Tom Yum soup.

The famous Fisherman's Village or "fisherman's village" is located on this beach. Most of the chefs of famous Samy restaurants buy local fish in this market.

Most of the hotels are expensive, but you can find a fairly decent one.

Koh Samui is very popular with both Russian and European and Asian tourists. Koh Samui has never let vacationers down with its beautiful tropical beaches. Koh Samui offers a wide variety of beaches, some of them lively and bustling with bars, beach clubs and tourist attractions, while others, on the contrary, offer a secluded vacation among the untouched wildlife of the island.

There are a lot of beaches on Koh Samui and they are all different. Both in terms of the presence of tourist infrastructure and the quality of the coast. Therefore, in order for you to get maximum satisfaction from your vacation, you should carefully choose your place of residence and bathing places, taking into account your preferences.

Generally speaking, the best Koh Samui beaches for swimming and recreation are located on the northern and eastern coast of the island.

For normal tourist holiday, it is preferable to choose a beach near the airport (Lamai, Bo Phut, Chaweng, Chaweng Noi). This part of the island has good beaches and a well-developed tourist infrastructure. Many hotels of different price categories, a variety of cafes, bars and restaurants. There are also large shopping centers.

For long stays, the best beaches are Lamai, Maenam, Choeng Mon and Baan Tai. There is a good combination of beach quality and tourist infrastructure. Also, winterers may be interested in low prices for rental housing beaches in the south-west of the island. But there the coast is very mediocre and the tourist infrastructure is poorly developed.

If we evaluate the quality of the beach itself in terms of the purity of the water, how convenient the entrance to the sea is, then the best Koh Samui beaches in our opinion, these are Tongtakian, Tongson and Coral Cove, with an excellent beach and crystal clean water. But it should be noted that the tourist infrastructure is poorly developed on these beaches. If parties are important to you, the presence of a hypermarket, then choose a place closer to Chaweng.

Chaweng Yai Beach

Chaweng is one of the largest beaches on the island, its length is more than five kilometers. Chaweng Beach can be divided into three parts: northern, central and southern. Northern part is called Chaweng Yai Beach. This section of the beach has a length of about two kilometers. The width of the coastline is about 15 meters. Chaweng Yai Beach is not popular with lovers beach holiday. The beach consists of two parts - shallow and deep with a rocky bottom. In general, the beach is not suitable for swimming.

However, the tourist infrastructure in the vicinity of the beach is very well developed. Many hotels of different price categories, a variety of cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. Chaweng Yai Beach is more of a party place than a place for beach holidays and swimming.

Chaweng Beach

The central part of Chaweng Beach, has the same name (Chaweng Beach) without additional prefixes, and is perhaps the most popular beach on the island. The whole tourist life on the island is concentrated around this beach. The tourist infrastructure is incredibly well developed. Starting with a large number beach activities and ending with the presence of large shopping centers.

In the vicinity of Chaweng there are well-known and popular large shopping centers: "Big C", "Tesco", "Macro", "Makro", "Tesco" -

The largest shopping center on Koh Samui - "Central Festival" is also located on Chaweng.

Around the beach there are a large number of hotels and guest houses of different price categories and a variety of services. Lots of restaurants, bars and cafes. Large selection of travel agencies. It is on this beach that the most luxurious parties and shows on Koh Samui are held.

Houses for rent are mainly to be found near Chaweng Lake. The Chaweng beach area, due to the developed tourist infrastructure and the presence of large shopping centers, is a very good place for a long stay.

In the Chaweng area is also the most famous hospital of Samui - "Bangkok Samui Hospital", expensive (if you do not have insurance), but with a high quality of service.

Chaweng Beach is beautiful and very picturesque. The entry into the sea is gentle, clean without stones, the depth increases gradually. The depth is suitable for swimming. The sand on the beach is quite light and fine.

All hotels on Chaweng Beach >>>

Chaweng Noi Beach

The next beach after Chaweng, located to the south, will be Chaweng Noi Beach or South Chaweng. It is similar to the central Chaweng beach, only inferior to it in size. The coastline is about a kilometer long. On this stretch of coast, the entire coastline between the road and the beach is occupied by hotels. Therefore, to get to the beach, you must either pass through the territory of a hotel or through the Bistro Samui restaurant. The beach is cozy, clean and well-groomed with fine, cream-colored light sand. The depth is slightly shallower than in the central part of Chaweng. The depth sufficient for swimming starts somewhere in 5-7 meters from the shore. Entry into the sea is smooth. In the northern part of the beach there is a small cove with a stone barrier where you can snorkel. There is a lot of natural shade on the beach, which allows you not to depend on the hotel infrastructure.

One feature of this beach should be noted - the presence of strong waves in the winter and complete calm in the summer months. Perhaps this is one of the best beaches on the island.

All hotels on Chaweng Noi Beach >>>

Lamai Beach

The second most popular beach on Koh Samui is Lamai Beach. It is located ten kilometers south of Chaweng Beach. The Lamai area occupies a fairly large area inland. Only the coastline has a length of more than 4 kilometers. Conventionally, Lamai beach can be divided into three: southern, central, northern. Lamai Beach is quieter and less crowded than Chaweng. The tourist infrastructure is very well developed. There are many hotels and guest houses of different price categories. In the interior of the island there are many offers of houses that can be rented for a long time. A wide variety of cafes, restaurants and bars for every taste.

A shopping street stretches along the coast, where massage parlors, travel agencies, cafes and bars, including McDonald's, clothing and fruit markets, are located. In the beach area there are also several large shopping centers: Tesco and Makro. In these shopping centers you will find everything you need: from food to clothing and household goods. There are also good food courts. In the beach area there is a children's water park, diving centers and many spa salons. Lamai Beach can be safely recommended both for tourist recreation and for long-term living. The beach is about half an hour from the airport.

Lamai Beach, northern part (Lamai Beach)

A very cozy and quiet area of โ€‹โ€‹Lamai beach, located a little away from the center of the village. A ring road runs along the coast. And although there is a fairly dense building (including several hotels), in the evenings it is very quiet place where the noise of night discos and parties does not reach.

This part of the beach is not suitable for swimming due to the shallow and rocky bottom. The water level during low tides is very low: somewhere up to the ankle.

Lamai Beach, central and southern parts (Lamai Beach)

The southern part and the central part of Lamai Beach are often singled out separately, but since it is visually difficult to determine the boundary where the central part ends and the southern part begins, and plus there are no big differences between them, we will combine their description.

The coastline is quite wide, the sand is coarse, soft and loose, golden in color. The entry into the sea in the central part of the beach is gentle, clean without stones, the depth is sufficient for swimming already about ten meters from the shore. The water is clear only when there are no waves. In the southern part of the beach, the depth is a little shallower, the entry into the sea is gentle, but there are stones and corals. Sea urchins can often be found among the stones.

There are always a lot of vacationers, but there is enough space for everyone. There is a large selection of water activities, there are tents where you can get a massage. The only thing to consider is the lack of natural shade on Lamai Beach. If umbrellas are not provided by your hotel, there is always the option to either rent an umbrella on the beach or purchase one at one of the malls. Lamai Beach is one of the tourist centers of the island. Various activities and parties do not stop until late in the evening.

South of Lamai Beach one of the famous and popular attractions of the island is located - the picturesque black-and-gray boulders Hin Yai (Grandmother) and Hin Ta (Grandfather). These are rocks created by nature that resemble male and female reproductive organs. There is even a legend about their appearance. They are very revered by the Thais and are one of the Thai shrines. This place is also very popular with tourists everywhere taking selfies against the backdrop of these rocks.

All Lamai Beach Hotels >>>

Coral Cove Beach

South of Chaweng Beach is a very small Coral Cove beach. The coastline of the beach has a length of about 130 meters. The beach is located in a secluded bay with bizarre rocks along the edges. The beach itself is very beautiful. The sand on Coral Cove is coarse, crumbly, yellowish in color. Entry into the sea is clean and gentle. Depth sufficient for swimming. The tides are not very pronounced. Strong waves on the beach are usually only during the winter months. The beach is constantly being cleaned.

The beach is quiet and not crowded. There are only three hotels on the coast. In addition to hotel restaurants, there is also a small Thai cafe on the beach with low prices. Near the beach there observation platform with a cafe and a beautiful view of the bay. This is one of the best beaches on the island for swimming and beach holidays.

Maenam Beach

You can find a different translation of the name of this beach: Mainam, Maenam, Maenam, Maenam

Maenam Beach is located in the north of Koh Samui. The beach is popular with families with children. Many families choose Maenam to stay for a long time. Not far from the sea there are many villages with a closed territory. There are a lot of offers for renting houses for a long period. The further inland the island, the cheaper you can rent a house. The area is very quiet, in the evenings there are no noisy parties. Maenam Beach will be attractive for those who are looking for relaxation and solitude. This is an ideal place for families with children.

The length of Maenam beach is about five kilometers. The sand on the beach is coarse and yellow. The entry into the sea is gentle, clean without stones. True, there are algae at the bottom. Swimming depth starts close to the shore. It will be very difficult for children to swim. For some reason, the water is always cloudy, and when the sea is rough, it becomes completely cloudy due to the suspension raised from the bottom by the waves. In general, the beach has good protection from the waves. Even during the winter months, there are rarely strong waves. The coastline is constantly cleaned, but there is no perfect cleanliness, due to the large number of vacationers. The beach is very popular, so there are always a lot of vacationers here, but there is enough space for everyone. The beach itself is very beautiful, along the coastline there are many palm trees that create a natural shade. Seen from the shore neighboring island Phangan.

Three rivers flow into the sea near the beach. Closer to them, the number of mosquitoes increases. Therefore, it is necessary to have a repellent. The most effective are local Thai remedies sold in many stores and pharmacies.

The location of the beach is not bad: it is not far from the beaches of Chalong and Lamai, where large shopping centers and the main party places of the island are located. Lompraya catamarans moor to Maenam Beach, which ply to the mainland through the islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. From the airport to the beach about 20 minutes drive.

The tourist infrastructure is very extensive. Large selection of hotels and guest houses of different price categories. A lot of cafes, bars and restaurants for every taste. A large number of massage and spa salons, travel agencies, laundries. There are grocery and hardware stores. Work in the morning and evening food markets. The prices are quite low. There is even a post office.

In the evening, many cafes take out tables right on the beach. It is very pleasant to dine by candlelight, to the sound of the surf.

Bo Phut Beach

The beach is located in the northern part of Koh Samui, between Maenam Beach and the Big Buddha. You can drive from the airport to the beach in 15 minutes. A ring road runs along the beach. The area between the road and the coastline is built up with hotels. You can get to the beach from the road either through the territory of one of the hotels or along the Fisherman Village embankment. The beach is very popular and crowded. The tourist infrastructure is very well developed. A large selection of accommodation from expensive hotels to democratic guest houses. Inland, a large selection of houses for rent for a long period. True, rental prices here are slightly higher than in other parts of the island. If we talk about prices not only for housing, but in general, including fruits and vegetables in the market, dishes in cafes, then the general impression is that Bo Phut is a more expensive area of โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹the island compared to Chaweng and Lamai. Lots of restaurants, bars and cafes. Travel agencies and massage parlors are literally at every turn. There are grocery and hardware stores, including large Big C and Makro supermarkets. Good transport links to other parts of the island.

The coastline is quite long. The sand is coarse and golden. The beach is not very wide. There are palm trees on the shore. You can swim only in the central part of the beach. Entry into the sea is clean, gentle. Depth begins immediately near the shore. True, somewhere after two meters the sandy bottom turns into a muddy one, which causes a little discomfort. The water in the sea is not completely transparent due to suspension, which never sinks. Swimming with a mask does not make sense, as visibility under water is poor. The beach is constantly kept clean. There are usually not many people on the beach. The eastern and western parts of the beach are less well maintained and are mainly used for parking boats and boats.

Bo Phut makes a very pleasant impression. Very beautiful coastline. There is, unlike other beaches, the central promenade "Fisherman Village", where there are many restaurants and retail outlets, and which is pleasant to walk along both during the day and in the evening.

Lipa Noi Beach

Lipa Noi Beach is located on the west coast of Koh Samui, a little away from the ring road, near the cape where the naval base is located. A cargo pier was built in this part of the beach, for the needs military base. But it doesn't cause much inconvenience. The beach has a sufficient length, and there is no need to rest directly near the pier. A hundred meters from the pier, the water is clean and clear. The sand on the beach is fine, light, grayish in color. The entry into the sea is gentle. The bottom is mostly clean, but in some places there are algae and accumulations of stones and coral fragments. In different months, due to the level of the tides, the depth of the sea changes. In the winter months the sea is deep enough for swimming, in the summer months the sea is shallow. The beach itself is very beautiful, lots of palm trees and natural shade.

On the coast there are several expensive hotels with large area. Many offers of luxury villas, houses and bungalows for rent for a long period. In the interior of the island, as usual, the cost of rent is lower than on the coast. The area is very quiet, there are no noisy companies. This place is very popular with couples with children and European pensioners.

The tourist infrastructure is poorly developed. There are food markets and stalls, small shops. There are also cafes and restaurants, but not in large numbers. In the Lipa Noi area are located: a large state Koh Samui Hospital and an immigration office. Lipa Noi Beach is the most popular night club on the coast - "Nikki Beach". Parts of the beach, where a few hotels are located, are constantly cleaned.

The beach is located a little on the outskirts, away from the ring road. The Mimosa Hotel is located on the beach, so Ban Tai Beach is often called by the name of the hotel - Mimosa Beach. The beach is quiet and calm, there are no annoying sellers, no noisy discos and drunken youth. The beach also has good transport links to Nathon and Bo Put.

W-Retreat Hotel Beach (W-Retreat Koh Samui Beach)

On the beach is the W-Retreat Koh Samui, one of the most luxurious hotels on Koh Samui. We can state with confidence that the quality of the beach corresponds to the level of the hotel. First of all, it is worth mentioning the cleanliness of the beach. The hotel staff maintains, one might say, the ideal cleanliness of the beach. Secondly, the beach is in unusual place- a sand spit extends from it more than a hundred meters into the sea.

Many tourists come here to take beautiful pictures. Considering that there are no private beaches in Thailand, everyone can freely get to the W-Retreat Koh Samui beach. Well, the beach itself is gorgeous too. Soft, fine light sand. Clean, gentle entry into the sea. The depth is sufficient for swimming, it starts near the coast on the right side of the spit. Many palm trees grow along the coastline, which creates enough natural shade.

Bang Rak Beach

Bang Rak is located on northeast coast Koh Samui islands. In the area of โ€‹โ€‹Bang Rak beach is one of the attractions of the island - a statue Big Buddha. Bang Rak Beach is often referred to as Big Buddha Beach. Another feature of this beach is its location. The island's airport was built near Bang Rak. And the flight path of the aircraft passes over the Bang Rak beach. Many tourists come to the beach to take pictures of low-flying planes from a beautiful angle. Also in the center of Bang Rak is a pier from where boats leave for Koh Phangan.

From the point of view of a purely beach holiday, Bang Rak is not the best place. Although children like the shallow sea and the beautiful nature of the beach. The coastline is not wide. The sand is fine and light. The beach is located in a U-shaped bay and the sea is shallow and rocky at the edges of the bay. In the middle part of the beach, the sea is deep, but due to the proximity of piers and constantly cruising boats, the sea in this part is dirty.

The tourist infrastructure is very well developed. There are many hotels and guest houses of different price categories. Many offers for renting villas, houses and bungalows for a long period. True, the prices are not lower than in other parts of the island. Many cafes, bars and restaurants for every taste. There are travel agencies, salons Thai massage, pharmacies, shops and markets. The Bang Rak area has several large supermarkets and a large fish market. The Bang Rak area can be recommended as a good place for a long stay on Koh Samui.

A small beach on the northeast coast of the island. There are several hotels and luxurious villas on the beach. The infrastructure of the beach actually consists of hotel services.

The sand on the beach is soft, fine and light. The entry into the sea is gentle, in some places there are fragments of corals. The sea is not very deep, the water is clear. The beach is constantly being cleaned. The beach is not crowded. Mostly families with children relax on the beach. At low tide, many shallow ponds form on the beach, in which kids like to splash. On the right side of the beach, behind a rock, there is a small cozy bay where you can sunbathe topless. Thong Son is very beautiful, it is not for nothing that it is often chosen for wedding ceremonies.

Chong Mon Beach

Located on the northeast coast of Koh Samui, next to Bang Rak Beach. Quite long beach. The sand on the beach is light, fine and crumbly. Entry into the sea is gentle, mostly clean. In the central part of the beach, the sea is deep, along the edges - shallow water. There is a lot of vegetation on the beach, creating a natural shade. Not far in the sea, there is a small island of Som, which can sometimes be reached on foot at low tide.

There are a lot of vacationers on Choeng Mon, especially in the central part of the beach. The beach is very popular with families with children. The infrastructure is very well developed. Many water activities are offered. The central part of the coast is occupied by hotels, and along the edges of the bay - houses and villas that are rented out for a long time. Many restaurants, bars and cafes for every taste. In the beach area there are mini markets, stalls, small markets, travel agencies and massage parlors. Nearby are the beaches of Chaweng and Bang Rak, which are easily accessible by tuk-tuk. Choeng Mon Beach is one of the best options for holidays with children.

South coast beaches: Laem Set, Bang Khao, Thong Krut, Thong Tanot

If you describe the beaches located in the south of the island, then they have a lot in common. All of them are sparsely populated, one might even say deserted. The beaches are quiet, wild, with beautiful, almost untouched nature. Coast with a lot of natural debris. Cleaned mainly areas in the immediate vicinity of hotels and expensive villas. The sand on the coastline is large, yellow. The sea off the coast is shallow. The tides are pronounced. At low tides, the sea "leaves" almost half a kilometer. The bottom is rocky. The sea near the coast is practically not suitable for swimming.

Thong Tanot Beach and Thong Krut - These are the two most distant beaches of the island. There is practically no infrastructure. You need your own transport. To get to the nearest areas of the island with a developed tourist infrastructure, you need to spend at least an hour.

Bang Kao beach- one of the longest beaches of Koh Samui, located far from the ring road, settlements and tourist centers. The coastline is very little built up: a few hotels and a small number of private houses and villas. The sea near the coast is rocky and shallow. A lot of fishing boats and boats near the shore, for the mooring of which the bottom is deepened in some places.

Bang Khao Beach is ideal for nature lovers who like to relax away from crowded places. This place is also popular with fishermen. There is practically no tourist infrastructure in the area of โ€‹โ€‹Bang Khao beach. To get to the beach, you need to go through the territory of one of the hotels located on the coast.

Laem Set beach although it is located closer to Lamai, independent tourists rarely come here. This is primarily due to the fact that you can only get to the beach through the hotel, which is not always possible. The beach is equipped, but the infrastructure belongs to the hotel and is available only to its guests. There are no shops, cafes and no entertainment in the beach area.

Laem Set beautiful beach, with intact wildlife, huge trees grow along the coast, creating a natural shade. Unfortunately, this is not the best place for swimming: the sea is shallow with a muddy bottom. True, a small barr reef is located a hundred meters from the shore. You can get there by boat or kayak. There you can swim with a mask, watching life marine life. However, you must be careful not to damage the coral reef by stepping on it or hitting it with a kayak.

Taling Ngam Beach

Taling Ngam Beach is located on the west coast of the island, away from the ring road. This is a beautiful beach for a secluded, romantic and relaxing holiday. Very beautiful beach with palm trees on the coast, untouched wildlife and turquoise sea. Gorgeous sunsets overlooking the neighboring Five Islands archipelago add a certain charm to this place. Very few independent tourists get to these places. On the coast there are several expensive hotels (for example, the five-star Hotel Intercontinental), which are located at a distance from each other. In general, the beach is not crowded: there are no parties and noisy companies of drunken youth.

The sand on the beach is medium in size, light yellow in color. The entry into the sea is gentle, the bottom is muddy, in some places there are stones and fragments of corals. The depth of the sea is greater than on the southern beaches, but still not sufficient for swimming. At the Hotel Intercontinental, a long pier goes into the sea, from which you can comfortably swim in the sea. The coastline within the hotels is kept clean.

In the Taling Ngam area, you can rent houses and bungalows almost on the seashore at prices lower than in other parts of the island. There is practically no infrastructure for independent tourists. There are several cafes and restaurants, a couple of shops. You need your own transport to travel for everything you need to other parts of the island. The ring road is far away. Almost all hotel guests use the services and infrastructure of hotels.

You can also see a detailed overview of all the other beaches popular resorts Thailand:

And today we will talk about the best beaches on Koh Samui. Despite the fact that the territory of Koh Samui is small, there are quite a lot of different beaches, ranging from the most party-like to wild, little-visited places. Therefore, everyone can find a beach to their taste. All beaches on the island are free and you can freely get to any of them, even if it is located on the territory of a hotel or restaurant.

I will describe the beaches of Koh Samui from north to south, you can follow the map where this or that place is located. We will talk about the 14 best beaches, most of them are located on the eastern part of the island, in principle, this is where tourists stop. Bang Por is located on the northern part of Koh Samui, its length is 6 kilometers. This is a fairly quiet place, there is a lot of housing for rent and prices are much lower than in popular tourist areas. Thai children often play on the shore, and there are also many fishing boats.

Ban Thai Beach

I fell in love with Ban Tai for fine soft white sand. However, the sea is almost everywhere overgrown with algae, which is inconvenient for swimming. Only at the end of the beach is the only place with a clean bottom and clear water, it is in this part of the beach that there is a large concentration of vacationers. The entrance to the sea is so smooth that it is necessary to walk a hundred meters for the water to reach the neck. But from there it opens just incredible beautiful view to the beach. On the shore is the Mimosa Hotel, often the beach itself is called the name of this hotel.

Maenam Beach

Most often, I lived in the Maenam area and visited this beach. This is a rather quiet place, not crowded, there are no water activities and merchants. The sand on the shore is yellow and coarser than on Ban Tai. The entrance to the sea is smooth, the water is clean. There are many cafes and restaurants along the coast, palm trees grow along the coastline, which create a natural shadow on the beach. Read more about this beach.

Beach hotel W-Resort (W-Resort Beach)

Separately, I want to highlight the beach, which belongs to one of the most expensive hotels on Koh Samui W-Resort. It is well maintained, with all the amenities for the residents of the hotel. The sea is clean, the descent into the water is smooth, the sand on the beach is yellow and soft. On Fridays, there is a clothing market that runs along the beach.

Bang Rak Beach

Bang Rak is a quiet beach in the north of the island, next to the airport. The infrastructure is quite well developed, water activities are available. Thong Son Beach

Thong Son is a quiet bay on the island of Koh Samui, along which there are quite expensive hotels. The sea is shallow and clean, the sand is soft. Perfect place for holidays with children. Chong Mon Beach

Choeng Mon is quite crowded, especially during the high season. There are many water activities and merchants. Because of shallow sea great for children's recreation. The sea is clean, there are no waves, the sand is fine and greyish. Along the coast there are many cafes, bars, massage parlors, you can rent a sun lounger.

Chaweng Beach

most popular and party beach on Koh Samui. Many package tourists and young people rest here. A huge number of cafes, restaurants, massage parlors, bars and shops. Entertainment for every taste, parties are often held on the beach. Chaweng is considered the most party and noisy place on the island. The sand on the beach is fine and white, the sea is clean and shallow. Read more about Chaweng Beach.

Chaweng Noi is considered the younger brother of Chaweng, but it is smaller and calmer. The beach is beautiful, well-groomed, the sand is white and soft, the sea is quite deep. Hotels are located along the coast and you can get to the beach only through their territory. All infrastructure is provided by hotels, there are water activities.

Coral Cove is a small but very beautiful and cozy beach. It has become a favorite place for many who have been here. Despite its inaccessibility, there are always a lot of people on the beach. Descent from main road to Coral Cove is quite steep, so you should carefully leave it. There is practically no entertainment here, only a couple of cafes on the beach. The sea is deep and clean, the bottom is sandy, despite the fact that the beach is surrounded by rocks. In winter, there are often waves, but they are small.

Crystal Bay is also called Thong Takian Beach and Silver Beach. It's crowded but very a nice place. The sand is white, the sea is azure and shallow, there are almost never waves. Families with children often come here. There are hotels, restaurants and cafes on the coast. Despite the fact that the beach is popular with tourists, it is quite calm here, there are no entertainments and youth parties.
