The best balaclava beaches. Hiking the secret paths. Stone beauty near Balaklava

The small sleepy town of Balaklava is located on the Crimean peninsula not far from Sevastopol. It is certainly worth spending a few days to visit. All because Balaclava has rich history, and in old times was a Genoese fortress, which offers a beautiful view of the sea. The origin of the name has two versions. According to one of them, it is translated from Turkish as “fish bag”, according to another from the Crimean Tatar - “fish weather”.

Modern Balaclava - small cozy resort, which is famous for its fish products, once again confirming the veracity of its name. A large influx of tourists is expected here in summer time when numerous picturesque beaches hospitably receive vacationers. You can get here by sea by boat.

The main decoration of the town is Balaklava Bay, shrouded in high rocky mountains. It is connected to the sea by a narrow winding strait. In the open sea, the harbor is not visible, because the rocky coast at the entrance to the bay makes several turns. Since the time of the Crimean War, an embankment called English has been equipped here, in our time it is the embankment named after. Nazukina, named after the sailor-submariner.

The surroundings of the town have reserved for travelers a lot of picturesque beaches with a clean clear water. Next, we will get acquainted with their features and attractions.

City beach of Balaklava

It is located in the east of Balaklava Bay, at the very end of the city embankment. The beach is free, and as it should be for everyone free beaches, there are few amenities, and cleanliness and grooming leave much to be desired. Awnings and deck chairs, the proximity of cafes, restaurants and shops - these are the few signs of civilization. A piece of territory of 50 meters is completely covered with concrete, a decent number of vacationers are happy to “brown up” here. One of the fun is jumping from the concrete embankment. Not only children, but also adults sin with such entertainment.

Less active thrill-seekers go down the steps to the sea. The large influx of people and the peculiarities of this beach guarantee that the water will not be very clean. However, in the early morning or late evening after dusk, you can still "catch the wave" and enjoy an acceptable relaxing holiday on the shore.

"Marble"

By right, this beach is recognized as the best in the city. The visiting time is limited and the entrance is open only from 7 am to 9 pm. To get to it, you will have to walk for quite some time to the end of the west coast bays. This cozy small-pebble (partially sandy) beach has a length of only 100 meters. From it opens amazing view to Cape Aya, Fortress Hill and Cembalo Fortress. Next to the "Marble" corner is Observation deck from where you can admire the beauty of the Balaklava Bay and the bottomless sea. The entire "resort package" of pleasures is present on the beach: from restaurants to sunbeds.

Convenient location allows sea waves roll onto the beach directly from high seas which ensures crystal clear water. The sun rises here early in the morning and hides late in the evening. Such a feature of the relief favorably distinguishes the beach from the rest and attracts a lot of couch potatoes, ready to sunbathe from morning to evening, but they also have to crowd on a not too large coastal “piece”. However, having visited the "Marble" beach, only positive impressions remain.

Vasili

This beach is located in the vicinity of Balaklava, in Vasilyeva Balka, which is on the western side of the entrance to the bay. It is located behind the quarry of the local mining administration. This area can be called dusty, but she herself coastal zone clean and clear water. Despite such a distance, "Vasili" is well equipped and looks cozy. Its length reaches only 200 meters, but its small scope is compensated by excellent views of the sea and rocky mountains. The beach cover is sand and small pebbles. The only inconvenience is the long and exhausting climb up the stairs, but sea spaces still worth it. So stock up drinking water, take your swimwear and go ahead, conquer the local beauty.

Silver Beach

It is located two kilometers from the Balaklava Bay, thanks to which the locals called this beach "Near". old name this area - Mikro-Yalo, which means "small coast". But this coast is not so small, because the length of one beach reaches 400 meters, this figure is noticeably higher than that of other nearby beach areas.

Coarse sand and small pebbles cover the shore, and going into the water for a couple of meters, boulders and blocks are found at the bottom. The coast in this place is “embraced” from both sides of the mountain, and the sea breeze and mountain aromas merge here. Such closeness to nature attracts camping fans who set up here tent camps. Bringing a snorkeling mask with you, you will meet a wide variety of sea world who settled in secluded places between many rocks near the passage to the sea. Also, a camera will not be superfluous, because daredevil dolphins often swim here.

golden beach

The locals call this beach Far, as you already understood, it is located not so close to the city, to the east of the Silver Fellow. In ancient times, lovers of secluded recreation paid boatmen to get to this remote corner by sea.

By analogy with Silver Beach, Golden Beach used to be called Megalo-Yalo, which means "big coast". It occupies a rather vast territory with a length of 800 meters. The coast is significantly different from others near Balaklava. The coast is strewn with large pebbles and boulders, nevertheless it is comfortable to swim here. In summer, a stall with ice cream and drinks is open on the beach, and under awnings and awnings you can hide from the flowing sun. At the pier, boats are rented, excursions and boat trips are conducted.

Most west beach belonging to the Balaklava coast. Located near Cape Fiolent, under mountain slope, on top of which is the ancient Balaklava St. George Monastery. From the monastery down to the beach leads the famous 800-step staircase, laid at the end of the 19th century. The descent and, moreover, the ascent of the “health ladder” requires certain physical efforts. The author personally vowed to quit smoking on this staircase (and quit!). However, the landscapes of the coast along the descent and the view of the beach more than compensate for any fatigue.
At a distance of about 150 meters from the pebbly shore is the rock of the Holy Phenomenon of George the Victorious, who saved in 891. Greeks - sailors from a shipwreck near this very rock. At the top of the cliff there is a wooden cross, clearly visible from the coast. Many vacationers swim to the rock in order to climb to the cross along a staircase carved into the rock. However, for such a swim without water support, good swimming skills and a calm sea without coasting are necessary.
The western end of the beach ends with a high rocky ledge, behind which there is a small wonderful bay, with the same decorative grotto. It is better not to be located on the rock itself - it is possible to shed stones.
It is easier to get to the beach from Balaklava by boat or motor skiff. This will take about 30 minutes.
The type is pebbly, in some places stony.
Beach length ~ 500 m.

Vasili

A magnificent pebble beach on the coast to the west of Balaklava Bay towards Cape Fiolent. The beach got its name from the Vasileva (Vasilyeva) beam in which it is located. From the coast it is surrounded by rocky mountains. You can get there on foot (about 1 hour) moving to the end of the embankment along the western side of the bay, then along an asphalt winding road uphill, from the top of which the road leads down to the beach, first along concrete steps, and then along an iron staircase. Faster and more comfortable to the beach "Vasili" you can get on board a boat or a boat from the Balaklava embankment. Such a trip will take about 15 minutes and you will not be limited in the amount of necessary things that you want to take with you.
The beach is divided into two sections - the eastern one is longer and wider (up to 40 m) and the western one, located under steep cliffs, but wilder and freer, since in order to get to it from the main east beach, it is necessary to cross a difficult rocky area along the sea. If you get by boat, you will be delivered to both the western and eastern part beach.
The beach offers wonderful views of Capes Aya and Fiolent.
Type - pebble.
Beach length ~ 300 m

City Beach

It is located in Balaklava Bay on the eastern side of Balaklava at the end of the city embankment. A classic city beach, suitable for those who like to take a quick dip on a hot summer day.
The beach is equipped, there are benches, cabanas, sunshades, etc. You can go down to the water by concrete stairs.
Type - concrete.
Beach length ~ 50 m

Marble

It is located on the western side of the Balaklava Bay, at the end of the Tavricheskaya embankment, not far from the exit from the bay. This is a cozy, small, well-maintained beach: there are changing cabins, a canopy from the sun, trestle beds. Visiting the beach is free, however, you will be asked to pay a certain fee for using a trestle bed (sunbed), which is located in the shade. The beach is covered in its main part with small pinkish pebbles.
Despite the fact that the beach is located in a bay, the water on the beach is almost always clean and transparent, since, unlike the City concrete beach, located around the bend of the cape, the Marble beach is washed by water directly from the open sea.
From here you can enjoy wonderful views of the Genoese fortress Cembalo, located on the Fortress Hill opposite the beach, and further to the east - to the cape - the Aya tract.
Type - pebble.
Length ~ 80 m.

Silver (Middle)

One of the most popular beaches Balaklava, which can be reached both on foot (about 40 minutes) along the most picturesque, but for many, tiring path, and by boat (15 minutes) from the piers on the Nazukin embankment. The beach is the first of a series pebble-sand beaches located to the east of Balaklava Bay towards Cape Aya. Therefore, he, among local population, referred to as "Near".
The big plus of this beach is the relatively well-groomed bottom when entering the water, almost along the entire line of the beach, which is important if you visit the beach with children.
Type - pebble.
Beach length ~ 400 m

rolling pins

Almost in the middle between the Silver and Golden beaches, there is a small rocky beach that bears the name - Skalki. The beach is located on the Gray Mountain, which blocks the walking path along the coast from the Silver to the Golden beaches. And if its famous neighbors are usually crowded and colorful, then it is relatively deserted here, perhaps because the coast is made up of large pebbles and stones and it is sometimes very difficult to nest here. The beach is bordered by a ridge of broken sharp rocks, whimsically protruding into the sea.
But due to its exoticism, the beach attracts those who like to sunbathe naked - nudists. For them, here is a place! On Skalki there is no infrastructure, changing rooms and sheds, but nature itself has taken care of beach visitors, because you can change clothes behind any of the boulders scattered along the beach and they also provide oases of saving shade during hours of special solar activity.
You can get to the beach on foot from the neighboring Gold and Silver (Middle) beaches. This will take about half an hour. But you need to go with extreme caution, be ready to do part of the way on the water, and also use rock climbing skills to overcome the 5-meter cliff blocking the path to the Golden Beach.
However, connoisseurs of solitary recreation, researchers underwater world armed with a mask and a snorkel for diving, lovers of jumping into the water from a height will appreciate this beach!
Type - pebbly, rocky.
Beach length ~ 50 m.

Naked

The beach next to the west on the Balaklava coast has the piquant name "Naked". However, connoisseurs of contemplation of nudes should moderate their ardor, since this usually "sparsely populated" beach, in addition to nudists, can easily host large family groups of vacationers or traditional campsites. Naked is a small pebble beach located under the Gray Mountain between the "Near" and "Gold" beaches, next to the Skalki beach, separated from it by a sharp and high ledge of rocks on the east side. You can get to it on foot, walking from the "Golden" beach along the path along the coast or from the Skalka beach, overcoming the same rocky ledge.
Entry into the water is gentle. The bottom is covered with large rounded stones or large pebbles. The nearby slopes are sparsely vegetated, and it is quite possible that this is why the beach got its name, and not because of the overcrowding of its lovers to frolic naked.
There is no infrastructure on this beach and all the splendor wildlife here presented to you in full force. So connoisseurs of secluded relaxation - you are here! The beach is covered mainly with large pebbles, but there are also rocky areas that you may need to cross, so we recommend that you wear reliable shoes on the beach. The beach is equipped with a berth for a large shuttle boat, there are places for disembarkation - landing of passengers and for small boats. In addition, on the beach there is a lifeguard post, a cafe-bar, equipment rental (sunbeds, umbrellas, etc.). Toilets and changing rooms are equipped.
Type - large pebbles, stony.
Beach length ~ 700 m.

The Balaklavsky district of Sevastopol, located in the southwest, includes the famous resort town- Balaklava. During the Soviet period, Balaklava was top secret. Not only was it a closed city itself, but also a special pass was required to enter Balaklava. The reason for this, as was often the case in the USSR, was a military submarine repair plant, where the “Museum of the Cold War” is now open.

In the 90s, Balaklava naturally "declassified", and it turned out that it is ideal for recreation. Hotels and mini-hotels began to be built at an accelerated pace. There is a winery in Balaklava Plant "Zolotaya Balka". Halfway from the 5th km to the neighborhood you can admire the stretching vineyards. Zolotaya Balka specializes in sparkling wines, but recently light table wines of decent quality have appeared in the line, which will brighten up any holiday in Balaklava.

If you come for one day, then after the walk, go to a fish restaurant. To the famous Balaklava red mullet order a glass of ice white or. Complement all this with a plate of mussels and consider that your day was a success!

What to try in Balaklava if there is no time for a full meal?

Everything is the same, only "go out". On central square(the one from where minibuses depart to Sevastopol) opened "Zolotaya Balka" brand store. The choice is huge, and fakes, as in the case of Massandra wines, you can not be afraid. For wine, feel free to buy at the pier all the freshly caught horse mackerel and red mullet, which you can only reach, and leave home happy.

Honestly, you won't regret it!

What to see / where to go Balaklava

Balaklava is famous not only for its beaches, but also for many interesting places dating back to different eras:

Cembalo fortress is one of the main attractions of Balaklava

  • The main decoration of the resort - Cembalo fortress. It is located on a mountain called Krepostnaya. You can climb to the fortress along the equipped road. The construction of the medieval Cembalo was carried out by the Genoese during the colonization of the Crimea in the XIV-XV centuries. The fortified building has witnessed many bloody events and more than once fell victim to destruction;
  • It is worth paying attention to such sights of Balaklava as Temple of the 12 Apostles. There is a church built in the 18th century, next to the Balaklava embankment;
  • Another significant religious building in the vicinity of Balaklava is St. George's Monastery, which was founded by Greek sailors in 891. Saint George helped them avoid death during a storm, and the sailors decided to thank him in this way. In the monastery on weekends you can attend divine services;
  • Located near the resort Cape Fiolent- one of the natural attractions of Balaklava and Sevastopol. A landscape shaped by precipitous cliffs, rough seas and pebble beaches impresses everyone. If you add tales and legends, then a romantic atmosphere is provided.

Where to stay in Balaklava 2019

Frankly, the choice of hotels in Balaklava is small. There are no chain hotels, no 4-5 star category. But there are small guest houses overlooking the bay (on one and the other side of it). Those located along are in great demand. However, you can stay closer to the Submarine Museum.

The prices are adequate to the quality: during the season you can rent a room in Balaklava from 1,500 to 4,500 rubles. The choice depends on your needs.

#1. Hotel Homer

Our favorite hotel in Balaklava. If there are free rooms, choose it, you will not regret it. Located on the central square, at the very beginning of the embankment. Beautiful rooms, balconies, delicious breakfasts, perfect cleanliness! Air conditioners, hair dryers, wi-fi, etc., everything is there and working.

#2. Guest House «KuprInn»

View of Balaklava from the terrace of one of the rooms of the KuprInn hotel

The hotel is located on a hill, so the view of the bay is gorgeous! The main plus is a very beautiful, fragrant area. There is a sauna and barbecue. In addition to basic amenities, each room has a kitchenette. However, breakfasts are also varied and quite tasty.

#3. Rybatskaya Sloboda

More a budget option accommodation in Balaklava. It is located 5 minutes from the embankment, closer to the Cembalo fortress. The rooms are simple, but everything is neat and clean. Air conditioning, wi-fi is also available. Close to shops, restaurants, cafes and the beach.

#4. Hotel Mriya

Located on the opposite side of the bay, closer to Soldier's beach. Look at the view of the Balaklava embankment! Another plus is the hotel-hostel, there are both common rooms with bunk beds and spacious double rooms. The difference, of course, is in the price (we have it for individual rooms).

May walk along the Balaklava embankment 2019:

Summarize

Come to Balaklava, which reigns almost mediterranean climate, better in May-September. The summer months are not moderately hot. A cool sea breeze can come to the rescue, but you should not count on it much. Despite the fact that the town is small, the infrastructure is well developed. Transport works like clockwork, although it can be crowded. But this should not overshadow the rest in Balaklava, especially if you do not plan frequent trips to Sevastopol.

The site has. To appreciate all the delights and beauty of the resort on your own. Pleasant viewing! Simferopol Airport - Evpatoria - timetable.

Summer has flown by in an instant. Until recently, it seemed to be May, poppies were in full bloom, and today it’s “Indian” summer outside the window - the first yellow leaves appear on the trees. But, the weather still continues to delight with warmth and there is no rain. Therefore, while there is still such an opportunity, it is worth enjoying the gentle Black Sea.

We have already talked about the fact that due to the diversity of the landscape in Sevastopol and its environs there is a large number of beaches for every taste - from sandy in the western part (for example) to rocky and pebbly, most of which are located in the vicinity of Fiolent and Balaklava (etc.)

One of the most popular beaches in the vicinity of Balaklava - Blizhny - the first of a series of beaches stretching from the entrance to Balaklava bay to Cape Aya. Many mistakenly call him Silver. But if you ask local residents, they will say that Silver is a small beach that is a little further and is located between the Middle and Gold. There is also a third name, in ancient times the Middle Beach was called Micro-Yalo, which in Greek means "Small Coast".

Namely, in the Middle on May 24 this year, we opened beach season. And, initially, we did not plan to swim. On that Saturday, a truly summer day, we had a desire to just walk through the ruins Genoese fortress Cembalo, and slowly walk to the Middle Beach. But, once on the shore, we could not resist the attraction, as it turned out, of the already warm sea.

The path to the Middle Beach starts from the Nazukin embankment. The easiest way is to use the services of the owners of small skiffs, 20 minutes and you are there. Or buy a ticket for a regular boat, plying along the route "Balaklava - Golden Beach", on the way it enters the Middle. But there is a third option - hiking - along a mountain path. In this case, the journey to the beach will take about an hour.

lovers hiking, which plans exclusively the Middle Beach, usually reach the end of the embankment and continue their way along the stairs with balusters. On the left, private houses of our contemporaries huddle on the slope, on the right - a row defensive towers is still on guard ancient fortress Cembalo.

We chose a slightly different path. Our first goal was the cape at the exit from the Balaklava bay.

Firstly, we wanted to look at unusual signs carved on stones, the existence of which we learned thanks to one Sevastopol blogger. Secondly, wonderful views of the Balaklava embankment and Cape Aya open up from there.

What these signs mean, and who carved them, remains a mystery to us. But, this is hardly the work of the ancient Genoese.

From the cape we got a wonderful panorama of the Balaklava Bay.

Balaklava bay (click to open in large size)

It should be noted that the Cembalo fortress is quite interesting in itself and we will talk about it in more detail in a separate article. We lingered a little in the citadel, looking at the Balaklava embankment, the upcoming path along the mountainside and the boats, bristling with fishing rods, lined up like in a parade. One of the activities that can be offered to you is fishing on the high seas. Freshly caught prey can be fried right there, many boats are equipped with barbecue grills.

The fortress was left behind. The path got out from behind the fortress walls and merrily ran along the slopes descending to the sea, winding and splitting into several. Some of them began to climb up the mountain, others rushed straight to the edge of the cliff. Despite the fact that many of the trails then converge into one, it is better to choose the golden mean - a rather gentle path.

At the end of spring, such a walk is a real pleasure, but in the middle of summer it can be hot. The first half of the way the surrounding area resembles the steppe - around the grass and flowers interspersed with occasional juniper bushes and wild rose hips.

At some point, the path begins to go along the very edge, on the left - a steep cliff, on the right - somewhere below the sea and leads to a bridge hanging over a cliff. Almost immediately behind the bridge there is a small platform with panoramic views of the Middle Beach and Cape Aya.

If you raise your head, you can see the "barrel of death" on top of the rock.

Some guides tell stories that the Nazis executed Soviet prisoners of war there, driving them into this “barrel” and suddenly removing the floor. However, historians argue that this is nothing more than a legend. If you carefully examine the floor of the "barrel of death", you can see that it is screwed tightly, rusted a long time ago and there are no traces of canopies on it. How could it be removed? Sevastopol climbers carefully examined the cliff under the "barrel" and did not find human remains there. In fact, this is one of two observation posts built back in 1905. From there, a wide view of the sea and coast opens.

The end point of our journey - the Middle Beach is getting closer.

It remains to go quite a bit and the descent to the sea will begin. I must say, it is quite steep, in some places you have to help yourself with your hands, using trees and stones as a support. For "normal heroes who always go around", as Barmaley (Rolan Bykov) sang with his team in the film "Aibolit-66", there is another descent. It is three hundred meters further and twice as long, but more gentle and comfortable.

You will not frighten us with such difficulties, and we began to descend. Two hundred meters down a steep slope and you begin to clearly smell the sea and hear the rustle of the waves.

The last few tens of meters, and we are on the beach.

The nearest beach stretches for 400 meters. It is surrounded by mountains covered with juniper and pine forest which, combined with the sea, create a special microclimate. The entire beach is covered with pebbles and coarse sand, only fragments of rocks are occasionally found. The entrance to the sea is very convenient, only at a depth of one and a half meters they begin to appear big stones. This wild beach without any signs of civilization, and only in the summer, tents selling drinks and food grow on its territory. At the end of May, there were no stalls yet, and there were hardly a dozen vacationers, including us.

I didn’t feel like leaving the beach at all, but the sun was already about to illuminate the other side of the planet, and wandering around mountain paths in the dark - a dubious pleasure.

On the already familiar route, we got up from the beach and headed towards Balaklava.

It's amazing how the setting sun changes everything around. Cape Aya turned yellow. The familiar tree also began to look a little different.

The nearest beach remained far below.

The bridge appeared. And the setting sun continued its color transformations. Cape Aya turned pink.

The slopes at the foot of Chembalo began to look like Inishmore - small island off the coast of Ireland.

It remains to go a little more, now the entrance to the Balaklava Bay has already appeared.

At dusk, we went down to the embankment, got into the car and went home.

See you on the blog pages www.site

The golden beach in Balaklava has become a symbol of this small ancient city located 15 km from Sevastopol. Many come specially to visit the Golden Beach and swim in plenty in its transparent and clear waters. For almost 40 years, Balaklava was a closed military facility, so you should take advantage of the fact that now a visit is possible for any tourist.

golden beach

As soon as the Golden Beach in Balaklava was not called! The ancient Greeks called it Megalo-yaylo, that is, the Big Coast. Then the beach was nicknamed Far.

It became gold in the 19th century, when boatmen racked up crazy prices for transporting passengers to the beach, and the name stuck. And so that no one would doubt the veracity of the name, modern entrepreneurs covered the stones of the beach with gold paint.

According to reviews, the Golden Beach in Balaklava is one of the best, and it really is. It is well equipped for relaxation.

Its length is almost a kilometer, and its width is about 20 m. Such great beaches- a rarity in the Sevastopol region. The area is covered with large pebbles, but you can rent sun loungers and get comfortable. Passengers are disembarked from the boat to a convenient pier, in addition, lifeguards are on duty throughout the day. There are cafes, toilets, changing rooms on the beach.

The mountains protect from the wind on Zolotoy, but the water often brings surprises - sometimes warm water blows away the cold current, then bathing is difficult for 1-2 days.

Relaxing on the beach, you can admire great views, breathe the purest air and enjoy the serenity summer day.

By the way, diving on Zolotoy is incomparable. If you already happened to be in Balaclava, you should not miss the opportunity to visit the Golden Beach!

A little about other beaches of Balaklava

There are many beaches in the vicinity of the city:

  1. The Nazukin embankment on the left side of the bay ends with a tiny city beach. The descent to the water is concreted, as is the beach area. At 50 m there are awnings, deck chairs, sun loungers, changing cabins.
  2. WITH opposite side bay is the Marble beach, which completes the Taurida embankment. The beach is small, in the summer there are always a lot of people who want to take a dip. But you need to swim carefully, without swimming far, because boats and yachts pass nearby.

If you head west, towards Cape Fiolent, then Vasili Beach is the first, then Yashmovy, or Monastyrsky.

If you go east from Balaklava, then immediately at the exit from the bay is Shaitan beach. This place is visited by fans of extreme sports, because you have to jump into the water from steep rocks. The beach is small - about 20 m, not equipped.

The next one is Near Beach, also known as Silver Beach because of the color of the rocks. You can walk along the mountain path in 40-50 minutes, or you can use the sea route.

The last one in front of the Golden Beach is called Skalki, or Halva. The coast here is covered with large boulders, there is no infrastructure. Nudists often hang out on the beach.
