Before going in search of an underground passage, I tried to understand in general terms the principle of the georadar. In principle, I did not find anything incomprehensible in the operation of the georadar. In fact, it works in the same way as a conventional metal detector. Here is how one of the manufacturers describes the principle of operation of the georadar.

“GPR consists of three main parts: antenna part, registration unit and control unit. The antenna part includes transmitting and receiving antennas. The registration unit is understood as a laptop or other recording device, and the role of the control unit is performed by a system of cables and optical-electrical converters. An electromagnetic wave is radiated into the medium under study, which is reflected from the sections of the media and various inclusions. The reflected signal is received and recorded by the GPR.

Further, the reflected signal is processed by a computer, which, in turn, draws the so-called profiles - slices of the space that the radar scanned. Accordingly, he and his colleague Sergey opted for the domestic GPR OKO (which is quite affordable compared to its overseas counterparts), equipped with an antenna with an operating frequency of 400 MHz.

This is the middle frequency. High-frequency antenna units with a frequency of 900-1700 MHz explore the surface to a depth of no more than two meters, but at the same time they have a high resolution, that is, they are quite capable of distinguishing even a single large coin. Low-frequency antennas with a sounding pulse frequency of 25-150 MHz see very deeply, but they practically cannot distinguish the nature of the target - they are used, as a rule, for global work, for example, to assess the thickness of deposits.

A georadar is not a cheap thing, but in order to work successfully with it, it is necessary to provide for some additional expenses. For example, tuition costs. Many manufacturing companies have their own training ground, where the basics of working with the device are explained to the happy buyer of the georadar. Training takes several days and costs about 25 thousand rubles.
