2.3. Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun)
Despite such a romantic name, I didn’t notice anything special about Wat Arun. Maybe because you can’t get inside the temple, you can only climb the temple itself. But the views from there are amazing! But I remember more not the temple itself, but the road to it. The Temple of Dawn is located on the other side of the Chao Phraya River, so to get to it from Wat Pho, you will need to take a boat, which will take you to the other side for only 3 baht.

Coming from historical center to modern Bangkok, the easiest way is by water bus, the stop of which is located very close to the Temple of the Golden Mountain.

The tallest building in Bangkok is the Baiyoke Sky Hotel. And you can not only look at it from the outside (and you can see it from almost anywhere in the city center), but also climb to the observation deck. From a huge rotating platform on the 84th floor, a panorama of the entire city opens up - an amazing sight! It is unlikely that you will go to such areas on foot, but it is very interesting to see from the water. And the boat trip itself is an unforgettable adventure! You can ride along Chao Phraya (the main waterway of the city) or along one of the klongs (water channels), you can go along with the locals (and they use boats as regular public transport), or you can hire a separate boat for yourself and arrange a small excursion.

If you are a budget traveler, then most likely stay in one of the small guesthouses on Khaosan Road or nearby streets. Be sure to go to Khaosan at least 2 times - during the day and in the evening they are completely different places! True, I don’t recommend walking around Khaosan with children in the evening - too many people, too noisy and too ... in an adult way.

khaosan road
This is the #1 tourist spot, but I love it. It is on all tourist maps, all taxi drivers know it, there are no “package tourists”, but there are many backpackers (independent tourists) from different countries. Near Koasan street there is Rambutri street - it is even more comfortable and less noisy. Here you can rent a very budget room in a guesthouse and have a delicious meal. Nearby is the Royal Palace. The metro does not go here (therefore, there are inexpensive hotels), the easiest way to get to Koasan is by taxi. From the center it will cost around 100 baht.
Grand Royal Palace in Bangkok
Important: it was built for the royal family, but the current king does not live here.

Siam Paragon shopping mall and cinema in Bangkok
You can just walk around this shopping center (although it’s cold here in places, take warm clothes), you can come here for shopping and you can go to the movies. Excellent I-Max, movie tickets from 150 to 400 baht per seat or 1000 baht for a "couch for two in imax."
Siam Paragon has a huge book Shop, which can be visited as a library, an artist's shop with paints and all sorts of art pieces, clothes of different brands, a good department with sporting goods, etc. Everything is not cheap. Cheap shopping, incredibly huge market of everything. Here they sell clothes, animals, food, antiques. Everything that is in Thailand can be bought on Chatuchak.
Opening hours: Saturday, Sunday from 8 am to 6 pm. From Tuesday to Thursday they sell vegetation (flowers, trees, etc.). Monday is a day off.
How to get there: to the BTS MoChit skytrain station or the underground metro station - MRT Kamphaeng Phet (or Chatuchak Park) and from there walk to the market. At the entrance to the market, take a map so as not to wander without a goal.
Baiyoke Sky Hotel - the roof of the tallest skyscraper in Bangkok
To get into the elevator and go up to the 83rd floor of this hotel, which is also the most tall skyscraper in Thailand, you need to pay 300 baht. With a strong desire and ingenuity, you can go for free using the elevator not for tourists, but for those who are staying at the hotel. On the first elevator you reach the middle of the building, then change to the second one, which goes to the observation deck.
lumpini park
You can come here for relaxation, lie down on the grass, feed the fish (large, in the river) and take a walk among the running Thais. You can also go skateboarding or rollerblading. This is one of a couple of places to go rollerblading in Bangkok. There are many monitor lizards in Lumpini Park and you can see them if you come here in the morning. They are not dangerous, they have not bitten anyone yet).

Bangkok Hilton Prison
If you want to do a really good deed, then go to the Bangkok prison. You can’t take pictures there, so it will definitely be a good deed that your Instagram won’t know about. In addition, one must go there not just to look, but to visit our Russians, who are serving time there. In 2002, they robbed a bank, but they were caught when they were already sailing away on a boat towards Cambodia. The guys then alarmed Thailand and received serious sentences. Renat - a death sentence, Marat - 34 years in prison.
It should be clarified that not a single farang in Thailand (Burmese and African Americans are not considered) has not yet been sentenced to death. All foreigners are either transferred to their countries or released under an amnesty. Our guys are also waiting for amnesty. I hope they don't have long to "live in Thailand".
How to get to Bangkok Hilton
The official name of the prison is Bangkwang. You can get to it by taxi (far and expensive - at least 200 baht from the center of Bangkok) or by boat that runs along Chao Phraya - for example, from Sathorn Pier (BTS Saphan Taksin). A boat ticket costs 15 baht, sailing about 1 hour to the final stop - Nonthabury Pier.
You need to arrive at the prison by 8.00-8.30 in order to have time to apply for a visit. Guys can and should be visited only one at a time (!). There may be several of you, but you can only call one of them.
Applications for visits are made across the street from the prison itself. In English, few people understand anything there, but you can communicate with gestures. Write on a piece of paper the name of the person you want to visit, or just say "Russian". You must have a photocopy of your passport with you. After submitting an application, sit, wait and see what others are doing - everything is easy to understand along the way.
There you will see many farangs and you can ask them questions in English if you don’t understand something. Many of them also come to visit complete strangers of their compatriots - this is normal in their culture. For our underdevelopment, this is perhaps a bit wild for the time being.
You can only give them products purchased on the territory of the prison, necessities (you always need cigarettes, which are quoted as local currency) or money. Food inside the prison is bought with cash, which is usually given to prisoners by relatives.
The visit itself lasts 45 minutes. The conversation takes place on the phone, through two panes with bars. The guys are usually very happy with adequate visitors and it is very interesting to talk with them.
Rooftops of Bangkok
They are very easy to walk on. Bangkok is full of open roofs (and full of closed ones). I will not write the exact coordinates here, because I don't want them to be closed over time. But if you want, you can find them. After all, this is the most interesting thing: to walk and look for ways to penetrate ..
One important point - the exits to the roof always go through the shaft stairs in the buildings. You need to find such a mine ladder and go to the roof along it. But the doors to these stairs open only from the outside. That is, if they close you somewhere, then you won’t be able to open it from the inside - you have to go and look for open door maybe 50 floors :). Sikh Temple in Bangkok
Sikhs are such cool dudes whose religion was invented in order to unite all religions. They connect with everyone, feed everyone and are friends with everyone. Sikhs work hard and therefore their representatives are often successful and rich people in each of their countries. In the Sikh temple, the main guru is the Book, which is kept at a certain temperature on special beds.
In the temple of the Sikhs in any country you can eat for free. They feed everyone, even poor western farangs in civilized Asia. If you come to the temple early in the morning - from about 8 to 9, then you will get a free breakfast and you can listen to live music, which is sometimes grandiose.
About food - you can put as much food on a plate as you like, but you need to eat everything that you put there. You need to clean up after yourself, you can also clean up after others, pour tea for someone or wash the floor, etc., or you can not wash.
The main thing for me in this place is the delicious food and the atmosphere of absolute immediacy.

Slums of Bangkok
Slums can be found even in the very center of Bangkok if you walk around it. But one of the most slum areas is Klong Toei (Khlong Thuy). The nearest underground station is MRT Khlong Toei Station.
Chinatown
This is a huge and very interesting area, you can get here by taxi or to MRT Hua Lamphong (the train station is located right there). You can walk around China Town endlessly - if you are not confused by crowds of people, ubiquitous markets and cramped streets. There are wonderful slum back streets, a cafe with Chinese dissidents (located on the second floor of Tesco Lotus), where you can drink real Chinese tea and much more. Canals of Bangkok
Cruise on the Chao Phraya River is not interesting. In Bangkok, there are channels that are much more interesting to swim, because you can see real life. These are entire villages on the water. You can get on a boat for such a trip near the BTS National Stadium station (look on the map where the nearest canal is and go to it) or from BTS On Nut (Pra Kanong Canal). In my opinion, the Phra Kanong channel is more interesting, to ride along it, you need to come to the pier no later than 15.30, and preferably early in the morning. Walk from BTS On Nut station to the canal along the road (Sukhumvit Road) for about 10 minutes.

"Temple of Dawn" (this is how the name of this shrine is translated) is business card almost all of Thailand. Its name is not accidental: it is during the dawn hours that the temple looks most majestic and beautiful. Another notable feature is that it still operates today, services are sent here and ceremonies are held.
The main treasure of the temple is the 79-meter Phra Bang stupa, which contains relics of Buddhism. All the buildings of the temple, as well as the surface of the stupa, are intricately decorated with magnificent porcelain, mined, according to legend, from the bottom of the Chao Phraya River, on which Wat Arun stands. 3. Jim Thompson House Museum
Perhaps one of the most unexpected interesting places in Bangkok. This house belonged to an American intelligence officer who became famous for reviving the Thai silk industry. Today, however, there is a museum in his house, where, in addition to the amazing beauty of the interiors, you can see the private collection of the former owner (the collection of antiques is especially impressive) and, of course, buy excellent silk in the museum shop.
Address: end of Soi Kasemsan street, house number 2, opposite the National Stadium in Siam Square.

Another attraction of Bangkok and one of its oldest temples. Wat Pho is famous for its giant (46 meters) Buddha statue, to which local pilgrims and tourists from all over the world flock to make a “lap of honor” and throw a coin for good luck at the feet of the Great Enlightened One.

This white marble gazebo is dedicated to the god Brahma and bears the name of an elephant, which, according to legend, belonged to the deity. The throne room of Ananda Samakhom stands out among other Thai architectural beauties primarily for its European style. Today, the Throne Room is used as a museum displaying Thai art as well as the magnificent Royal Jewelery Exhibition.
Working hours: The throne room is open to the public daily, except Monday and except October 23 (the day of the death of King Rama the Fifth), from 10:00 to 18:00.
Ticket price (only for the exhibition) costs 150 baht.

You can get acquainted with the maritime history of Thailand here. In addition to the various vessels of the Thai navy, eight royal barges are on display here, each a unique work of art. Rich carvings, magnificent figures of gods and mythical creatures decorating the prows of ships, gilding and bright colors will not leave anyone indifferent.
In the past, these barges were used in various ceremonies and as a vehicle for the most august persons. Today, the only chance to see them on the water is the Royal Procession of Kathin (November-December).
The museum is located on Arun Amarin Street, near the Bangkok Noi Canal, where it flows into the Chao Phraya River (between Siriraj Hospital and Phra Pin Klao Bridge). You can get here by water: take the Chao Phraya Express Boat and get to Van Lang Pier (N10), after which the museum will be within easy reach.
The land route is a bit more complicated: you need to cross the Phra Pink Lao Bridge at Grand Palace from where to go to another bridge - Arun Ammarin. The museum is located almost below it, in the park near the bridge, and here it is easy to find small signs showing the way.
Working hours: the museum is open daily from 09:00 to 17:00 (barges may not be in the museum in November and early December when they are being prepared for the ceremony).

14. Suan Pakkad Palace Museum
The case when pleasant can be combined with useful. The museum has an impressive collection of unique farming tools, weapons, pottery and jewelry, as well as traditional Thai masks "Khon" and musical instruments, while the age of some specimens is up to 4000 years old!
So, even having visited only Suan Pakkad, you can significantly replenish your knowledge of the history of crafts and arts in Thailand. This is about useful. And the nice thing is the large Japanese-style gardens decorating the courtyard of the museum. In the main garden there is a pavilion that is over 450 years old. Want to see chilling toothy predators? Then you should definitely go here in Bangkok! Crocodile farm(aka zoo and park) Samut Prakan is located in the province of the same name, not far from Bangkok. It is simply a paradise for the most diverse living creatures that live in Thailand. In addition to crocodiles and various animals and birds, many beautiful plants and flowers grow in the park, there are several lakes and ponds where you can watch leisurely fish.
You won’t be bored on the farm: a crocodile show is held here for visitors, and you can also watch how they are fed. The show runs every hour from 9:00 to 17:00 except 12:00. On holidays, additional performances are arranged at 12:00 and at 17:00. Crocodile feeding time - from 16:30 to 17:30.
