Rest in Palanga. Central street of Palanga and pier. The most interesting sights of Palanga

Palanga has its own airport, which means that you can get to the city with a minimum amount of movement. You can fly from Minsk to Palanga on Belavia in just an hour, but keep in mind that flights operate only in the summer: from June to early September. Round trip tickets will cost €100.

You can get from Kyiv to Palanga with a transfer by Belavia, UIA, airBaltic and LOT airlines. The flight takes from 3 to 5 hours depending on the carrier. From Moscow, again with a transfer, the same airBaltic and LOT will take you there.

If you plan to travel to Palanga from Vilnius, there are plenty of travel options. For example, the Lithuanian bus carrier Toks has flights Vilnius - Palaga: € 16 and 4 hours on the way, and you have Baltic Sea.

Another option is the Vilnius-Klaipeda train, which departs from Vilnius Railway Station five times a day and costs from €15 one way. You can book your ticket in advance on the Lithuanian Railways website. Travel time is approximately the same as by bus - about 4 hours. From Klaipeda to Palanga it’s not a big deal, just use a local one by intercity bus– you can check the schedule.

If you decide to travel around Palanga by bus (although this doesn’t make much sense), you can look at the routes and schedule of public transport. There is no Uber in the city, but there are other taxi services.

Palanga is a rather miniature town with squat buildings. There is even a special law here prohibiting the construction of housing that would exceed the height of a pine forest. It looks cool - a complete fusion of natural and man-made. All houses and hotels in Palanga stretch along the Baltic Sea, and the residential streets of the city are separated from the sea only by a strip of pine forest. We recommend choosing accommodation on the first line - this way you can admire the peaceful forest from the window, and you can walk to the sea in a maximum of 5 minutes. Vila Medus(Neringos g. 42) just one of these accommodation facilities. The small guest house is located right next to the forest, which hides the sea behind it. For € 35 per night for two you can stay here in a cozy room with all the amenities and floor-to-ceiling windows. Write to the hostess in advance that you want a room with a view of the forest, and in the morning, without getting out of bed, you can admire one of the most peaceful views of your life.

Modern Apartment in Palanga(S.neries g. 37)– apartments in the city center and, moreover, close to the sea. For a day in a cozy apartment with good view you'll pay almost €100 from the window, but it has its own kitchen and an open balcony for breakfast.

Palanga Park Hotel(S. Dariaus ir S. Gireno 11) – a hotel with an excellent location for those who like to live closer to the action. It is located near the main street of the city – Basanavičius. Within a 10-minute walk from the hotel you can reach the main attractions of the town - the Amber Museum and the Botanical Garden. Double room in Palanga Park Hotel will cost approximately €55 per day.

If you want to go crazy, choose a boutique hotel Smilčių Vilos(Smilčių g. 67), which is located just 10 minutes walk from the sea. Several buildings included in the hotel complex are already remarkable in themselves - the buildings look very modern and designer. The hotel's courtyard is also very cozy and ideal for evening gatherings. An overnight stay in a double room here will cost €90 (breakfast included).

Budget travelers also have a place to stay. For example, in Surf Hostel(Medvalakio g. 12A)– a modern, bright hostel with a cool “surfer” interior. An overnight stay in a shared room for eight will cost €24 per person.

Another good hostel - Symbiosis (Klaipėdos pl. 62a)– located near the Palanga bus station. There are cool, cozy rooms with fresh renovations and new furniture. You will have to walk about half an hour to the sea, but there is free parking next to the hostel. Prices are quite affordable: from € 14 for an overnight stay in a shared room, and € 30 for a double room.

Palanga is a small seaside town where people go rather to relax from impressions and overcrowded cultural program. But there are still attractions here - and they all fit perfectly into the leisurely atmosphere that hovers here.

The main museum in the city is Amber Museum(Vytauto g. 17) is located in an ancient palace that once belonged to Count Tyszkiewicz. The museum's exposition fully corresponds to its name - there are about 30 thousand exhibits, and all of it is amber. Rumor has it that this is the largest such collection in the world. The exhibition with amber is located on the second floor of the palace, and on the first floor you can get a closer look at the life and everyday life of the counts Tyshkevich themselves. In the halls, the interiors of those times have been recreated, and you can look, for example, into the countess’s office or imagine yourself big man ceremonial hall. A ticket to the museum costs €3 for an adult and €1.5 for a child.

Adjacent to the Amber Museum is another major attraction, which not only Palanga, but the whole of Lithuania is proud of - this Birute Park(Vytauto g. 15). Locals love to boast that this is the most beautiful and well-kept park in the whole country - and they have every reason to do so. Once upon a time, the park was laid out by order of the same Counts Tyshkevich. In Birut today you can feel like you are in the 19th century - there are well-groomed flower beds and bushes all around, and people dressed in costumes from the times of the first owners of the palace walk along the paths. By the way, quite a lot of events are held in the park: for example, in the summer three times a week, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the Palanga orchestra performs here. There is no need to pay to visit the park.

Another popular place in the city for walks fresh airSculpture Park(Vytauto g. 39A). Here you can look at 28 sculptures by modern Lithuanian (and not only) sculptors.

If you come to Palanga with children, look into Dog Museum (Taikos g. 8). This is a private collection of dog figurines. As many as 4 thousand exhibits! One of the owners of the museum is the artist Vytautas Kusas, so you can also see his paintings here.

Don't lose sight Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Vytauto g. 51), which towers over the city and looks very impressive. The impressive red brick building in the neo-Gothic style was built in 1987 with the financial support of Count Felix Tyszkiewicz. Look inside to see the high vaults of the church and its discreet decoration. But keep in mind that you can’t always get there - check the service hours on the church’s website first. By the way, there is an Orthodox church in Palanga Church of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God (Sodų g. 52), which is worth a look because of its atypical nature Orthodox churches architecture.

On the main street of the city - Basanavičiaus(J. Basanavičiaus)– your feet will lead you themselves. This is the most active part of Palanga, and it is along this street that almost all the cafes, restaurants and bars in the city are located. There are always a lot of people here, because Basanavičiausa is actually the center of Palanga and its oldest part. Along the street, among others, are the very first buildings built in the city. These are wooden holiday villas, not the most attractive in appearance, but protected by the state as a cultural property.

Directly from Basanavičiaus you will go to another main attraction of Palanga - the sea pier. The very first pier was built here under the Tyshkevichs - they hoped to develop shipping in Palanga, but it didn’t work out. Therefore, the pier began to be used for idle walks. Later, in our time, a new, more reliable structure was built here. Go to the pier to admire the beautiful and cold Baltic Sea, listen to the cries of seagulls and look at the sandy shore from afar.

ACTIVITIES

The Baltic city is adored by lovers of healthy lifestyle and active recreation: there will always be someone riding a bike, jogging or walking past you here Nordic walking. And if you are far from all this, perhaps it is in Palanga that you will be inspired to run your first hundred meters along the sea.

The favorite of all local and visiting cyclists is the Palanga long bike. bike path. You can use it to get as far as Latvian Liepaja or neighboring Klaipeda. It passes through the forest along the sea, and also past some of Palanga's attractions, for example, the Amber Museum. You can rent a bicycle - here are the addresses of the points.

If you prefer not to turn the pedals, but to run on your own two feet, you will appreciate it treadmill "Labrytis" in the thick of the Palanga pine forest. The length of the looped path is 6 kilometers. Here you can also work out on outdoor exercise equipment.

IN Palanga sports complex (Sporto g. 3) you can lift weights in the gym or play tennis. Next to the new building of the complex there is a football stadium and running tracks.

If you are traveling with children, we recommend checking out Palanga summer park (J. Basanavičiaus g. 43) with slides, trampolines and other entertainment (tickets from € 17), Palanga Fairytale Park (S. Daukanto g. 24A) with unusual sculptures and installations and Children's park (Šermukšnių g. 1) with cool playgrounds.

Another legendary place Palanga, which all the townspeople will advise you -

Among all the resort areas of the Baltic states, the small Lithuanian town of Palanga stands out. Holidays here will be remembered for a long time not only by adults, but also by the younger generation.

From the beginning of spring to the end of autumn, you can meet vacationers from almost all over the world: some come to treat their health in the sanatoriums and health resorts of Palanga, and others come in the summer to lie on the sea coast under the gentle, but not scorching sun. But, most tourists come with children and precisely in order to organize a vacation for young members of society, because at an early age, sharp changes in temperature and climate can adversely affect the health and condition of the baby.

Climate Features

In Palanga, children will not have an acclimatization period, since the climate is as close as possible to the central part of our country, so sharp temperature and climatic changes cannot be expected.

The Baltic climate, even at the height of summer, does not indulge in heat and high air temperatures, much less water. The summer daytime temperature here ranges from +17˚С...to +28˚С, reaching maximum levels in the last ten days of July - the first week of August.

Air temperature day and night

The most rainy days occur in the spring months and in August and September.

Number of sunny and rainy days

As for the water temperature, the situation here is as follows:

  • June: +12˚С.. +16˚С;
  • July: +16˚С.. +23˚С;
  • August: +18˚С.. +23˚С.

The water is at its warmest (and for the Baltic Sea it is +23˚С) at the end of July – beginning of August, and then very rarely.

Beach infrastructure

Of course, the most important entertainment in Palanga is the sea, sand and pine forests in the area.

The sea near the coastline is not deep, so you don’t have to worry about the kids frolicking near the shore. You should only be especially vigilant when the sea is rough. But for older children and adults, the waves become exciting fun.

Due to the shallow water near the shore, the water in the shallows warms up quite quickly, even if the air temperature is low.

In addition to the sea air, walks in a pine forest will also have a beneficial effect on the baby’s health. All this is available to vacationers all year round and completely free of charge, so it is simply impossible not to take advantage of them.

Although, of course, there are disadvantages here. One of them is the wind, which often blows from the sea. Considering that even at the height of summer its temperature is not too high, the breeze blowing across the children who are not in a hurry to get out of the water can give their mother quite a worry. Those who have been here more than once know that from the wind carrying small grains of sand and hitting the body, children can be hidden behind a small dune, and the rare gusts that reach there will become one of the means of hardening. By the way, special tents that serve as a barrier from the wind also help to escape from the wind.

Some parents bring food and fresh fruit to the beach, which can also be purchased in tents at the entrance to the beach, inflatable pools and everything their child might need. And on the beach itself there are small cafes and bars where you can buy drinks, ice cream, and some light snacks that do not require preparation.

Children from 1 to 5-7 years old will undoubtedly enjoy it here. But older children who need fun animation and a greater variety of entertainment may get bored.

What to see and visit

In the city You can look at these places:

  • not far from the Pusynas sanatorium there is a large entertainment area for children;
  • insectarium, where you can see more than 40 species of various arthropods. Admission for adults is 3.5 €, for children 3-10 years old – 2.5 €.

  • a dog museum with over 2,000 dog figurines on display. Admission: adults 2, children 1 €.
  • there is a large collection of both amber itself and products made from it, and there is a beautiful botanical park around for shady walks.
  • Raganyuk Witch Theater, where you can not only watch the play, but also take part in competitions and tests.

In the vicinity of Palanga There is a little more entertainment for adults and children, so if you have the opportunity to go out, it’s worth visiting:

The dummies are made to life size. There are a total of 40 of them on the territory of the Dinopark. There are also attractions, 5D cinema, a mirror maze, and children's playgrounds.
  • . Not only is there an exhibition of stuffed animals, but you can also go on a safari and see wolves, wild boars, bears, as well as ostriches and zebras.

  • . You will spend an unforgettable day here even if you travel by ferry. The maritime museum displays anchors, propellers, ships, and in the dolphinarium, in addition to the fascinating display of dolphins and fur seals, there are many aquariums with fish and penguins.
  • . It is interesting to learn and show children how changes took place in the world of time and clocks. It will also be interesting for adults to see some unique species.
  • may offer a look at representatives of felines, ungulates, primates, birds and even predators.

At the clock museum

Things to do in low season

As a rule, in winter people go to Palanga, both with and without children, for sanatorium treatment, since beach holiday It's simply not possible here at this time of year. In most sanatoriums aimed at children's recreation, entertainment activities for kids, as well as various competitions and excursion tours to the sights of Palanga and the surrounding area.
Of course, in addition to the sanatorium entertainment, you want to keep your child occupied with something while on vacation, but since winter is the low season and the weather is quite cold outside, most entertainment complexes and playgrounds are closed.

Alternatively, you can visit NVN. Of course, all the entertainment of the summer season will not work.

If your children are of middle and high school age, and also like to see something unusual and interesting, then you can go to sightseeing tour to local museums: Antan Monchis Museum (S. Daukanto St., 16, Palanga), Amber Museum, Dog Museum.

You can attend a performance at the previously described Raganiukes Theater and take part in an interesting competition program from the witch Raganiuke.

Walking along the embankment, through the pine forest and in the city limits can also be quite exciting, because in the low season the city practically dies out, so nothing will stop you and your children from enjoying its beauty, and maybe discovering something new and interesting for them. myself. Just be well insulated, as it is windy and much colder at the seaside than in the city.

Where to eat

Children in a cafe

Palanga, of course, will not give you such a gift as all-inclusive meals, since this resort simply does not have such a concept, but still, despite the fact that you are coming to relax with children, you do not have to worry about food issues costs. The infrastructure here is very well developed, and, taking into account the fact that the resort is aimed specifically at family holiday with children, then most restaurants and cafes offer children's menu.

You can find a suitable option for daily meals in any part of the resort, but still the most famous and expensive establishments are located in the center, namely on Basanavičius Street.

The most interesting places for good rest with kids:

Restaurant "De Cuba"

  • Address: Basanavičius street 28, Palanga.

The establishment is perfect for spending time with children: not only does it have a children's menu, but after the meal, kids can play on the playground and on the carousel in the backyard, while parents enjoy the excellent taste and variety of dishes.

Cafe-bar “Medyza”

This establishment is located on the territory of the hotel of the same name, not far from the sea and a pine forest. The prices for food here are quite reasonable, there are children's menus, and there is also a play complex on a tree right in front of the establishment's windows. While enjoying the excellent taste of freshly prepared dishes, you will be able to watch your kids at the same time.

Restaurant "Zuvine"

  • Address: Basanavičius street, 37A, Palanga.

This is one of the expensive restaurants offering a good fish menu. Here, as in most restaurants and cafes in Palanga, you will be offered high chairs, a children's menu, and the opportunity to send children to a small playground.

HBH Brewery “U Josasa”

  • Address: Zhibininkai village, about 5 km from Palanga.

A great place to relax with the whole family: in addition to the restaurant itself, there is an excellent play area for children. Over time after the opening, the establishment has expanded so much that now it does not have the status of a restaurant, but is considered a whole entertainment center. At Yozas's you can not only have a delicious lunch, but also get a lot of new impressions for both adults and children.

Restaurant "Kogas"

  • Address: Juodkrante village, Juodkrantes crossing, Rezos str., 1.

Lovers of adventurism and unusual establishments will definitely be attracted to the Kogas restaurant, as it is located on an old ship, where tables for visitors are located right on the deck. There is a good playground for children, as well as children's dishes on the menu.

If you are still looking budget options food, then you can rent a table in some pizzeria or small cafe, of which there are a lot in the central part of the city. Almost all of them will offer children's meals and additional services for little vacationers, but still check about this in advance.

Located in the center Botanical Park, founded in a swampy forest according to the design of the French landscape architect E. Andre at the end of the 19th century. This is one of the most beautiful, best preserved parks. It is located on the Lithuanian coast of the Baltic Sea. Its foundation was started by Count Felix Tyszkiewicz in 1897. At the same time, a palace was erected surrounded by a park.

The park project was developed by a landscape architect, botanist, known for his work not only in France, but also in other countries, Edouard Francois Andre (1840-1911). With his son René Edouard Andre (1867-1942) and the Belgian gardener Buissin de Coulon, he lived in Palanga for three summer seasons. All this time, under their leadership, the park was laid out.

Among the common pines, the Belgian dendrologist B. de Coulon planted thousands of plants brought from everywhere. But not everyone could survive the local winters. Now there are more than 200 species of trees and shrubs in the park. Walking through the park will bring you great pleasure, at any time of the year. In addition, in the park's greenhouse you can view exhibitions of works of art and photography, and on the museum's terrace you can hear performances by a chamber orchestra.

Maybe you will be lucky and you will hear the symphonic poems of M. Čiurlionis “Forest” or “Sea”, and then your impressions will be especially vivid and your memories will be unforgettable. The name of Mikalojus Ciurlionis, the great painter and composer, is one of the most revered in Lithuania. By the way, in 1908-1909 Mikalojus Čiurlionis vacationed in Palanga. The house where Čiurlionis stayed is marked with a memorial plaque.

When you walk around the port, remember that it was Count Tyszkiewicz, who decided to build a port in Palanga, who built a pier made of oak beams into the sea, which since 1892 has become a place for vacationers to walk. And in 1899, the first Lithuanian performance took place in a warehouse near the pier, which is remembered by the installed oak stele.

Tyszkiewicz Palace (Vytauto g, 17) - an elegant and noble building in a pseudo-Renaissance style - is one of the main attractions of Palanga. Since 1963, it has housed the Amber Museum. According to the design of the German Franz Schwechten, the palace was erected in 1897 by the Counts Tyszkiewicz. The building corresponded to the neo-Renaissance style and colorfully fit into park complex. In 1957, the palace was reconstructed. Today, the heir Alfredas Tyszkiewicz lives in the capital of Poland. On May 22, 1997, by decision of the Palanga City Council, he became an Honorary Citizen of Palanga.

While walking through the park, be sure to climb the Lithuanian sacrificial hill - Birutė Mountain. This is the most high point on the sea coast of Palanga. She is listed on large maps, dating from the 17th century. In ancient times, Lithuanians kept a sacred fire on the top of the hill. Priestess Birute guarded him. The wife of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Kestutis and the mother of the Grand Duke Vitaus, Birutė lived in Palanga until her death and served the ancient pagan gods. In 1989 during archaeological excavations A pagan temple was discovered on the mountain.

Biruta in Lithuania - a symbol of love for native land. Later, a wooden chapel was built on the mountain, and in 1869, according to the design of K. Mayer, an octagonal chapel made of red brick. Now in the chapel you can admire the stained glass windows of the artist L. Pocius, and at the foot of the mountain - the sculpture “Tau Birute” (“To You, Birute”) by K. Tulene.

J. Basanavicius Street is the main street and leads to the pier. All kinds of entertainment events are held on the street in many places. On both sides there are cozy cafes and restaurants.

Pier

At the end of the 19th century transport connection to Palanga has not yet been established. Vacationers first went to Liepaja or Klaipeda. Then we got there on horseback. With the assistance of Count Tiszkevicius, a pier was built (1884-1888). The trade and passenger ship "Phoenix" sailed from Liepaja to Palanga. In addition to vacationers, he also delivered food and various goods. During storms, the pier was covered with sand and in the end it was completely disabled. Since 1982, the pier has been a favorite place for walks. However, time and the vagaries of nature completely destroyed this structure. Therefore, in 1997, the 470-meter-long pier was rebuilt.

Primorsky Regional Park

To the south of the Botanical Park, 5,602 hectares of green kingdom stretches to the city of Klaipeda. This is Primorsky regional park, which was laid down in the fall of 1992. The park includes Lalotes botanical-zoological, Olando kyapures, Karkles botanical, Platio nature reserve, Nemersety and Shaipyu nature reserves. Along the alleys of the park you can not only walk, but also ride bicycles and horses.

Samogitia alka

Back in the distant 14th century, our people rarely watched the stars from the platform they equipped on the top of Birut. In our time, with the assistance of the Samogitian Cultural Society, an observatory was built. It is located next to the health center “Energetikas” in Sventoji. Folk craftsmen made pagan gods from wooden pillars. According to Baltic mythology, each pillar corresponds to a specific god. In 1998, these god pillars were installed in a specific order. At one time, the pagans at sunset, depending on the location of the shadow from the pillar, determined the calendar holidays: Kaledos (Christmas), Uzhgavenes (Maslenitsa), Rasos (Rossy), Gandro Day (Aist) and others.

Morskie Oko

As for other architectural monuments of the city, we recommend visiting the neo-Gothic church, the marble interior of which is included in the list of cultural monuments protected by the state, and is also very characteristic of resort town at the beginning of the 20th century, wooden villas: “Morskoe Oko”, “Anapilis”, “White Villa”. They are carefully preserved as the oldest wooden buildings in Palanga.

Swedish architect K. Strandman created a project for a Catholic church in the neo-Gothic style. Built in 1897-1906, the 76-meter structure is currently the tallest in Palanga. A distinctive feature of the church is its amazing acoustics. 90 thousand gold rubles were spent on its construction, of which Count Tyshkevich allocated 30 thousand from his treasury. This is the third church in Palanga. Hotel "Meguva" is located on the site of the second church.

There are many sculptures in Palanga. They are distinguished by a special Baltic style and are very modern, although they often embody ancient Lithuanian legends: the sculpture “Jurate and Kastitis” (remember the legend about the origin of amber?), the sculpture “Eglė - the Queen of Snakes” and, of course, an unusual composition based on “Signs of the Zodiac” M. Ciurlionis.

We advise you to go to the pharmacy (Vitauto g, 33), even if you don’t have any pain. This old pharmacy, opened in 1827, is still in business. Against the backdrop of the azure sea, you will see fishermen pulling nets with a rich catch from the water.

Without breaking the established tradition, the ship in Yodkranta moored for a short time on the shore. If you wish, you can end your tour here. The remaining passengers follow the route further to Nida, where the ship moored for a longer period of time. Passengers have about 2 hours at their disposal, during which they can visit attractions and take a walk on the seashore.

Thanks to such unique conditions created on a cruise ship, tourists have developed traditions of celebrating their birthdays and other significant dates in their lives while traveling. Our ship is ideal place holding both collective holidays and corporate events. We have rented out the ship for private excursions to such well-known city enterprises as “Plienas”, “Klaipedos duona”, “Hansabankas”, “Iilija”, and others.
