In 1521, Sultan Suleiman returned from a campaign and, together with the army, brought many captured Serbs. The name of the forest comes from the village of Belgradköy (Belgrad Köyü), which they later founded - here, to the north of the city, they were allowed to settle.
In the 17th and 18th centuries, the one who cut down a branch in the Belgrade forest was cut off his hand, and the one who cut down the tree was cut off his head.
Today, this wonderful forest occupies 5.5 thousand hectares, and about 4 kilometers separate it from the sea coast.
In the Belgrade forest, relict trees have survived to this day, the age of which is several hundred years.
