"Gardens by the Bay" is an integral part of the Singapore Government's strategy to transform Singapore from a "Garden City" into a "City in a Garden" in order to improve the quality of life through greening. The public announcement of the idea of creating such a large-scale project took place back in 2005, and official opening unique futuristic gardens came in June 2012.

The concept and design of the tropical park was developed by a team of British designers from various companies: Land Design Studio, Atelier Ten, Thomas Matthews, Atelier One, Grant Associates, Wilkinson Eyre.

The Gardens by the Bay complex boasts 225,000 plants from various continents, water gardens, greenhouses, pools, waterfalls, as well as an unusual alley consisting of 18 gigantic Supertrees Grove trees.

Unusual structures in the dark turn into a forest glowing with multi-colored lights. The height of the huge tree structures ranges from 25 to 50 meters. They are home to unique tropical plants including exotic ferns, orchids and rare vines. In addition, structures made of concrete and iron rods imitate the life processes of trees - they use solar energy for some important functions. These fantastic plants shine at night thanks to the energy storage photovoltaic panels that are installed on some of them. Other trees are used to condition greenhouses and collect rainwater for fountains and irrigation. Metal giants entwined with tropical plants are connected by overhead passages, from which it is very convenient to enjoy the surrounding landscapes. You can climb to the observation deck located under the crowns of two large super-trees by walking trail OCBC Skyway, which is at a height of 22 meters, and visitors can relax and refresh themselves in the Supertree-top cafe, which lies at a height of 50 meters. The first of them - the Flower Dome - is larger than its neighbor and has an area of 1.2 hectares, it has the status of the world's largest frameless greenhouse. The flora of the Mediterranean and other semi-arid tropical regions with a mild dry climate lives here. The greenhouse includes 7 themed gardens (South America, South Africa, Australia, California, Mediterranean, Baobabs, Succulents), olive groves, cafes and multimedia screens. The height of the Flower Dome is 38 meters, and the average temperature maintained in the room is 23-25°C.

In the greenhouse called "Cloud Forest" with an area of 0.8 hectares, conditions have been created for a humid equatorial climate characteristic of tropical mountainous areas at an altitude of 1000-3000 meters. It features a 35-meter waterfall, a 42-meter mountain covered with lush exotic vegetation, as well as air trail, laid along a spiral path.

Gardens by the Bay Tropical Park also has Gardens cultural heritage", which are dedicated to the history of the Singaporean people, the "World of Plants", which presents numerous species of flora, as well as the Kingfisher and Dragonfly lakes, along which you can walk on hiking trails.

In 2014, the complex was replenished with the "Kindergarten" (Children's Garden) with water activities and a playground, an obstacle course, treehouses and an amphitheater hidden from the sun and rain.

Gardens by the Bay is a prime example implementation of the strategy of the government of the country to turn Singapore from just a "Garden City" into a "City in the middle of a garden" surrounded by greenery.

The area of the garden complex is 101 hectares, it is located in Marina Bay and consists of three gardens - Bay South Garden (54 hectares), Bay East Garden (32 hectares) and Bay Central Garden (15 hectares). The idea of the park was first announced in 2005, in a competition for the development master plan firms from 170 countries of the world participated. The final opening of the park took place on June 29, 2012. Today Gardens by the Bay is Singapore's premier urban leisure space and national symbol.

The most visible part of the Bay South Garden is the giant artificial trees (super-sized trees). The design of these "trees", which are as tall as a 16-story building, is somewhat reminiscent of an orchid, the national flower of Singapore. Tree-like structures are connected by a suspended passage - OCBC Skyway, decorated with specially planted exotic plants, walking along which you can enjoy a stunning panorama of the park and the city from a bird's eye view. And in the evening, these huge "flowers" become the main participants laser show to the sounds of a specially written . Interestingly, these artificial trees are also solar power plants that power their own lighting and all other systems in the garden.

Near the embankment itself, which belongs to garden bay East Garden, there are two indoor winter gardens (Cooled Conservatories) - Flower Dome (Flower Dome) and Rainforest (Cloud Forest). The design of these rooms from above resembles two large sheets of some tropical plant. These premises were built using modern technologies and are part of the garden ecosystem - for example, rainwater from the domes is collected in a special reservoir, and then, due to the energy of "supertrees", it is used in the cooling system.

Both greenhouses have their own theme and landscape design. So, the Rainforest imitates the tropical highlands - under the roof there is even a 42-meter hill, constantly covered with fog, from which a real 35-meter waterfall falls. You can take the elevator up the hill and then go down on foot, enjoying mountain air with fragrances rainforest. And in the Flower Dome, flowering plants from the Mediterranean, Africa, South America and Australia are collected - a total of 7 garden areas, including even an olive grove.

Gardens by the Bay on the map

On open space The park has themed gardens - "Plants and People" and "Plants and Planet". They are an important part of the educational program. The Plants and People Garden showcases various cultural species that were cultivated in Singapore during the colonial and modern periods. The Plants and Planet Garden showcases the biological diversity of wild plants.

The system of park reservoirs is represented by the Dragonfly and Kingfisher lakes. These beautiful lakes not only a source of pleasant coolness for visitors and water for park plants, but also an ecological filter for purifying water pumped from the Marina Bay reservoir.

For children, Gardens by the Bay has a special Kindergarten. This is an attraction for children aged 5 to 12. For example, there is a house in the form of a tree, tunnels with water and the Adventure Trail, which consists of a trampoline, suspension bridges and many more.

The flower market includes indoor space for events, retail and catering facilities.

The Gardens by the Bay park complex offers excellent conditions not only for walks, but also for picnics in the bosom of nature. At the top of the largest "flower" Supertree is a panoramic restaurant IndoChine. There are also several eateries and cafes on the territory, beautifully integrated into the overall design of the gardens.

You can get to the park by metro, bus or taxi.
