How to get to Lindau from Munich. Hotel Anker, unrated

Going to Lindau, I knew only dry historical facts about the city, some geographical information and that's it. It turned out that this incredible, very special South German city holds a huge potential for everyone who breathes unevenly into extreme sports.

Where else, if not here, to go sailing on a ferry on Lake Constance, stand on top of a lighthouse and look at the distant Alps, admire the buildings of the old city and glide on a sailboard on the waves!

How to get there

Germany includes 16 federal states and the city of Lindau is located in one of the most attractive for tourists - Bavaria.

From Russia to Lindau can be reached by plane, bus, train or car. But it will be much faster to get to the city by ferry if you are staying in neighboring Austria or Switzerland. Now let's take a closer look at my options.

By plane

It will not be possible to do without transfers, since there are no direct flights between major Russian cities and German Lindau. But do not get upset ahead of time, as you will land in one of most beautiful cities Germany - Munich, from where you will start your journey to Lindau.

From Moscow

From Saint-Petersburg

From the airport to Munich

By purchasing a ticket from the machine, you can take the S-Bahn train (S1 or S8) to Munich train station (Hauptbahnhof). The trip will take about 30 minutes. You can find the train at the airport by the sign with the letter S, as shown in the diagram.

If you plan to see Munich, I advise you to read about it. And we go further, to Lindau. How to get to this city from Munich, I will tell below.

By train

Unfortunately, there are no trains from Moscow and St. Petersburg, but you can get to the very German capital. And then transfer to the train and get to Munich. You can read more.

I think the best way to get around Germany is by train, which will get you from point A to point B quickly and comfortably. And the main advantage of traveling in this transport is a stunning view of picturesque Germany.

From Munich

From the main Munich railway station, you should go to its northern part (Starnberger Bahnhof), to tracks 27-36, from where trains leave for Lindau every half an hour. The journey to the city will take 2 hours 46 minutes.

Before boarding the train, pay attention to the name of the train, because the Bayern Ticket will only be valid on trains marked RE, IRE, RB and S-Bahn.

Those who decide to get to Lindau by rail will be really lucky: the train will take you immediately to the historical part of the city, which lies on the island itself!

From Russia

You can also travel to Germany from Russia by train. True, you will spend the whole day on the road if you go from Moscow to Berlin. A seat in a compartment will cost more than 150 EUR, and in a sleeping car - about 240 EUR one way.

Residents northern capital it will be somewhat more difficult to get to Germany by train, as you will have to change trains in Moscow or Prague. The cost will be about the same as the trip from Moscow. But the time costs are much longer - about 36 hours! If this does not bother you, and you are ready to go on a long journey, I advise you to buy train tickets 2-3 months before the trip.

By bus

From Munich to Lindau

You can get from the capital of Bavaria to Lindau by Flixbus for only 9 EUR! The journey will take 2 hours. The buses of this company depart from the central bus station of Munich (ZOB München), which is located at Hackerbrücke, 4. Trains S1 and S8 follow directly from the airport. You can also take the tram (Straßenbahn) no. 16 or 17.

In Lindau, the bus stops at Berlin Square (Berliner Platz), located on the mainland of the city.

From Lindau railway station to the center

If you traveled from Munich by train, you will find yourself on the island part of the city. Near the railway station Lindau is the central bus station. On city buses that run along, from the island you can get to the mainland in just 10 minutes.

At the time of this writing, the bus schedule from the station was as follows: weekdays- 05:21, Saturday - 07:21, Sunday and public holidays - 07:51. Last flight from the station is carried out at 22:21.

The fare will depend on which ticket you buy. A single trip (Einzelfahrt) costs 2.2 EUR. A daily ticket (24-Stunden-Karte) can be bought for 5.7 EUR. And for a ticket for 8 days (8-Tage-Karte) you will give 16 EUR.

By car

I think it's not the best option to go from St. Petersburg or Moscow to Lindau by car. Judge for yourself - the distance between the cities is not small, namely 2500 km, respectively, you will have to travel more than 25 hours!

Gasoline will cost about 200-250 EUR round trip. But additional costs will also await you, because the route passes through Poland, where there is toll roads. You can read more in the article.

If you are not confused by the above conditions, feel free to hit the road! When halfway is over, you can stop for the night in a Polish city.

Another option is to rent a car in Munich and take it to Lindau. You can do this right at the Munich airport, in the building of which there are offices of companies such as Sixt, Europcar and Budget. You can compare prices from different distributors.

To get to the city of Lindau, you need to take the A96 motorway. The journey will take about two hours.

By ferry

Lindau is located on the shores of the navigable Lake Constance, so you can get to the city by ferry from the Swiss Rorschach and the Austrian Bregenz.

A company (Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe) helps to establish a ferry service between Lindau and other port cities of Lake Constance. From April to October you can take a ride on the ferry of this company on the route: Rorschach - Lindau and Moersburg - Lindau. The trip will cost about 20-30 EUR.

In Lindau, the ferry lands at the Hafenplatz wharf, which is 100 meters from the Lindau main train station.

When is the season. When is the best time to go

I think you should plan your trip to Lindau from April to October, as this is the period when you can visit the Haus zum Cavazzen museum, take a panoramic ferry tour of Lake Constance, and also go to the Komm & See festival, where you can taste the best wines of the region.

In summer, Lindau has everything that attracts the attention of tourists in the summer: well-equipped beaches, golf courses, rental of equipment for windsurfing and stand-up paddle boarding, and most importantly, the opportunity to swim in the lake. The water temperature reaches +26 °С, and the air warms up to +30 °С.

I think it's not worth going in October-November, as it rains and fog is frequent, although the air continues to be warm. Most attractions are closed and there is not much to do in the city, in my opinion.

In winter, extreme lovers are more likely to go for adrenaline to the neighboring one than to the peaceful Lindau. There are few tourists at this time. The city is located in the south of Germany, so there is no stinging frost here. The air temperature rarely drops below -3°C.

Lindau in summer

Summer is the best best time for a trip, despite the tourists crowding at every sight. solar and warm water lakes (up to +26 °С) allow you to actively spend your holidays in Lindau. This time is rich in city events, including the Kinderfest children's festival. If you are traveling with children, be sure to visit it.

But the most significant event of the summer for me was the Rund Um night sailing regatta, which takes place in June. More than 400 sailing boats sailing on Lake Constance - an incredibly beautiful sight!

Lindau in autumn

During this period, as in winter, there are few tourists. The only event that attracts tourists is the city fair, which takes place in November. I will talk about it in the "Holidays" section.

If you decide to go to Lindau in autumn, there is a great opportunity to feel the breath of summer in the indoor pool with a wonderful recreational area. Entrance costs about 4-6 EUR.

Lindau in spring

April and May are the most best option for travel. The air in spring warms up to +15-20°C.

Sunny weather and warm air create excellent conditions for classes. water sports, for walking around the old town and the blooming Lindenhof park.

Lindau in winter

I would not go to Lindau in winter. Those bright summer colors are no longer there, as are the opportunities to go windsurfing or canoeing.

But one event from November 23 to December 17 attracts tourists from different countries - Christmas at the port (Hafenweihnacht). During the days of celebration, the city is illuminated by thousands of lights, and the smell of fresh cookies, roasted almonds and spicy mulled wine is in the air.

Districts. Where is the best place to live

The city of Lindau consists of 10 districts, among which the most popular among tourists are Insel and Schachen.

  • Insel is insular part cities. Insel has become a favorite holiday destination due to its proximity to Lake Constance. In addition, the island is known for its old town with buildings from the 16th century, the architecture of which is typical of several countries: Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Unfortunately, housing in this part of the city is not cheap. Average price per night - 122 EUR. But if you want to save money, spend the night in a hostel near the station. A night in a double room will cost you 58 EUR.
  • Schachen is an area whose attractions are the Lindenhof park, the Friedens Räume museum and the Lindenhofbad beach. For a night in a local hotel room you will pay from 110 EUR.

Where to stay in Lindau

In Lindau you can stay in a hotel, guest house or hostel. It is best to book on, but first you should compare prices. I would like to recommend you some options:

You can also rent accommodation from local residents- offers can be viewed.

What are the prices for holidays

Lindau is not a cheap city.

  • A night in a hotel in the city center can cost 120 EUR or more.
  • For lunch in a cafe/restaurant you will pay about 20-30 EUR.
  • Entrance to the museum will cost an average of 3 EUR.
  • While in Lindau, one cannot fail to take the opportunity to go on a panoramic tour of Lake Constance. It will cost about 16 EUR.

You can save on transport if you settled on the island. Its area is less than 0.7 square kilometers, so it can easily be walked around.

Main attractions. What to see

You can fall in love with Lindau at first sight. One has only to walk along the pedestrian Maximilianstrasse, look into the baroque buildings with rich facade paintings, or go sailing on Lake Constance by ferry.

All this can be done on your own, as the main attractions are located on the island itself, which can be bypassed in a few hours.

If you are afraid of getting lost, take a guide. A one and a half hour tour costs 95 EUR per group and is carried out at any weather conditions.

Below I will tell you about those sights without which it is difficult to imagine a trip to Lindau.

Top 5

Harbor entrance

The entrance to the harbor of Lindau made a huge impression on me. Ferries going to the island are proudly greeted by a statue of the Bavarian lion, which weighs about 50 tons, and a lighthouse (Leuchtturm), towering 36 meters above the surface of Lake Constance.

At the top of the lighthouse there is an observation deck with an unparalleled view of Lindau Island, neighboring port cities and the distant Austrian Alps.

Entrance for adults costs 2.2 EUR, and for children - 0.8 EUR. Of course, the occupation is not easy - to climb the stairs with 139 steps. But you can pause and read funny stories and Interesting Facts about Lindau and Lake Constance, which adorn the inner wall of the lighthouse.

Mangturm

If you get to Lindau by ferry, then on the approach to the city, you will certainly be struck by the fabulously beautiful Mangturm tower, the roof of which is covered with bright tiles. The Mangturm tower acquired its current appearance in the 19th century.

Looking at Mangturm, I immediately remember the heroine of the fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm Rapunzel, who was imprisoned in a high tower. And for good reason! If you approach the tower and look up, you will see a long golden braid hanging from the tower window. Now the tower hosts various recreational activities: reading fairy tales, puppet show. But earlier it served as a lighthouse.

Maximilianstrasse

Narrow streets winding between houses lead deep into the medieval city - to Maximilianstrasse (Maximilianstraße). This is perhaps the most famous street in the city. It gained popularity among tourists due to the colorful houses of the 16th-17th centuries, which belonged to wealthy burgher families. Emblems and paintings on the walls of buildings tell a lot about their past owners.

old town hall

Those who deny that buildings can tell everything that their walls have survived should go to the old town hall (Altes Rathaus) on Maximilianstraße and find out otherwise! The painting on the façade of the town hall perfectly reflects the rich history of Lindau.

Artist Wilhelm Nida-Rümelin decorated the façade of the town hall with paintings depicting farmers, fishermen, linden blossoms, restless Lake Constance and the Ten Commandments.

The artist even dared to depict a skeleton and a young naked girl, which symbolizes the struggle between heaven and earth. The image of an erotic plan on the facade of the town hall caused a wave of discontent. Members of one of the parties demanded to urgently remove the shameful image. Did it succeed? See for yourself!

In 1655, a children's festival was held here for the first time, laying the foundation for a centuries-old tradition that the inhabitants of Lindau observe to this day. You can read about the festival in the corresponding section (see the "Holidays" section).

puppet theater

I never thought that I would see the ballet "Swan Lake" performed by the puppet theater! Incredible spectacle!

The graceful movements of the puppets are subordinated to the founder of the theater, Bernard Laismüller, and 11 actors. In addition to Swan Lake, Carmen, the Magic Flute, Hansel and Gretel are put on stage. Tickets cost from 20 to 30 EUR.

Beaches. Which is better

crystal pure water Lake Constance is ideal for swimming in July and August, when the water temperature reaches +20-26 °C.

Lindau has 7 equipped beaches. But I've only been to three.

  • Eichwald at: Eichwaldstraße 16-20;
  • Lindenhofbad at the address: Lindenhofweg, 41;
  • Bad Schachen at the address: Bad Schachen, 1.

Among the beaches I named, I liked Eichwald the most, which offers a magnificent view of the Alps.

The beach has swimming pools and beach volleyball courts. In addition, there is an opportunity to play table tennis and learn to windsurf. I believe it perfect place for the rest of the whole family!

Working hours:

  • May, September - from 10:00 to 19:00;
  • June - August - from 9:00 to 20:00.

A ticket for adults costs 4 EUR, and for children - 2 EUR. I want to note that from June to August on Tuesdays and Thursdays you can do aqua fitness from 11:00 to 11:30 for free!

Churches and temples. Which are worth a visit

The majority of Lindau residents are Catholics. But in addition to Catholic churches, there are evangelical churches on the island and in the mainland of the city. I managed to visit only a few temples:

  1. Cathedral of the Virgin (Münster unserer Lieben Frau);
  2. Church of St. Stephen (Kirche St. Stephan).

Cathedral of the Virgin

The Cathedral of Our Lady (Münster unserer Lieben Frau) was built in the second half of the 18th century after a fire in 1728.

Luxurious interior decoration in the Rococo style and baroque plafond painting of the cathedral have survived to this day.

Address: Stiftsplatz

Church of St. Stephen

Next to the cathedral is a landmark that is not inferior to it in its historical significance - the Church of St. Stephen (St. Stephan). It was built in the distant XII century. Since then, it has been rebuilt several times. Before you, the Church of St. Stephen will appear in the Rococo style.

Museums. Which are worth a visit

There are not many museums on Lindau Island, so if you have enough time and money, go to all of the following:

  • Peace Museum (Museum friedens räume) at Lindenhofweg, 25;
  • Gallery Buddha-palace at Ludwigstraße 26;
  • City Museum Haus zum Cavazzen at Marktplatz 6.

First of all, I would go to the city museum Haus zum Cavazzen, where masterpieces of world art are presented. I will talk about this and other museums that I liked below.

City Museum Haus zum Cavazzen

On market square(Marktplatz) is perhaps the most beautiful building on the island - the baroque museum Haus zum Cavazzen with a powerful hipped roof and an unusual painting on the facade.

The building was designed by the Swiss architect Jakob Grubenmann in the 18th century. The permanent exhibition is located on three floors and includes exhibits belonging to different fields of activity. For example, in the department of culture of everyday life there is a collection of furniture from late Gothic to Art Nouveau, a collection of weapons, paintings and sculptures of the 15th-19th centuries. I was surprised by the collection of mechanical musical instruments, which includes music boxes, barrel organ and much more. A ticket to the permanent exhibition costs 3 EUR.

Paintings by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall were given to the museum for a temporary exhibition.

At the time of writing, the museum operates according to the following schedule:

  • From April 1 to August 27: from 10:00 to 18:00.
  • From September 5 to October 22: Tuesday to Friday and Sunday - from 11:00 to 17:00, Saturday - from 14:00 to 17:00

Address: Marktplatz, 6

Buddha-Palace Gallery

If you are close to Buddhist culture, then you are here - to the Buddhapalace gallery! Here are rare ancient exhibits from Thailand, Cambodia, Tibet, Burma, Japan.

A pleasant surprise for me was that here you can not only see, but also buy your favorite thing! There are over 500 Buddha figures for sale. I think the figurine bought here will be a great gift for those who breathe unevenly towards Asian culture.

The gallery is open from Monday to Friday at 11:00-17:00. Saturday - at 10:30-15:00.

Address: Ludwigstraße 26

parks

As you can see from the map, most of the parks are located on the mainland of Lindau.

There are both city and private parks, which you can arrange with the owner to visit.

Alpengarten

I would like to advise you to go to the private botanical garden Alpengarten. In the garden you will see more than 2000 varieties of beautiful alpine plants!

Opening hours:

  • Monday - Friday: from 8:00 to 12:00 and from 13:30 to 18:00;
  • Saturday: from 8:00 to 12:00

Address: Aeschacher Ufer 48

Lindenhofpark

If you want to unhurriedly relax in nature, have a picnic, I advise you to go to Lindenhofpark. You can get to it by bus number 4 in the direction of Alwind. The entrance is free.

tourist streets

The main tourist street of the city is Maximilianstrasse, which I described above.

For me, this is not just a promenade and a shopping street 230 meters long, but an architectural gem and living history. Maximilianstrasse is definitely the place to go first.

What to see in 1 day

I started walking around the city at 6 am. And not because I couldn't sleep. I wanted to wander alone in a sleepy medieval center city, go to the embankment, to the lighthouse, see the distant Alps, fog creeping over Lake Constance and, finally, meet the dawn, which is simply amazing here!

The only downside is that in this early time All cafes and shops are closed. Therefore, I suggest starting a walk around the city from 08:30 in the morning.

  • At 08:30, the Theater Cafe opens at Linggstraße 6. There you can have a cup of coffee to invigorate yourself and taste sweets to get you in the mood.

  • If you still have the strength, I advise you to go in the evening to the production of the puppet theater, which will take place on the stage of the State Theater (Fischergasse street, 37). A ticket can cost around 20 EUR.
  • The end of such an eventful day can be spent in the small wine restaurant Weinstube Frey (Maximilianstraße, 15).

What to see in the surroundings

The Austrian city is located 20 kilometers from Lindau Island, which is easiest to get to by BSB ferry for 6.1 EUR. The trip lasts about 20-30 minutes.

The most important attraction of the city, undoubtedly, is Mount Pfender, whose height reaches 1064 meters above sea level! You can climb it by funicular for 7-8 EUR.

In addition, you can go to the alpine reserve, especially since admission is free. Here you can see dwarf goats, mountain sheep, wild boars, marmots, hares and other animals.

Food. What to try

At the mention of Bavarian cuisine, Munich white sausages with sweet mustard and Bavarian beer immediately appear. But this is not all that Bavarian cuisine can please and surprise you with.

While in Lindau, be sure to try:

  • fish dishes from Lake Constance;
  • pork stew;
  • Bavarian blue cheese;
  • national dish Kässpätzle;
  • tart flambé cake.

You can try all this and much more in cafes and restaurants, which I wrote about below. The average bill for a hearty lunch without alcohol is about 20 EUR.

Budget

  1. Strandcafe Lindenhof (Lindenhofweg 41);
  2. Augustin (Fischergasse 33);
  3. Bodolzer Dorfstuble (Untere Steig 4B);
  4. Kunst Cafe (Maximilianstr. 48).

Intermediate level

  1. Cafe Grossstadt (In der Grub 27);
  2. Gasthof Alte Post (Fischergasse 3);
  3. La Gelateria (Maximilianstr. 36);
  4. Zur Fischerin (Ludwigstr. 50).

Expensive

  1. Restaurant Valentin (In der Grub 28a);
  2. VILLINO (Mittenbuch 6);
  3. Schachener Hof (Schachener Str. 76).

Holidays

What is the most famous festival in Germany? Right, . And what about Lindau? Do not know? Then I tell!

Safety. What to watch out for

While in Lindau, I calmly walked around the city late at night and early in the morning. At the same time, I did not notice any pickpockets and scammers. Therefore, I believe that the city is safe for tourists.

Shopping and stores

Lindau attracts tourists not only with its centuries-old history, but also with a range of unique clothes that can be bought in outlets, brand stores, boutiques and shopping malls. Here are some of the places to shop:

Bars. Where to go

Most of the bars are located in the central and eastern part of Lindau Island. As a rule, they work until midnight or until 02:00.

For a glass of beer you will pay about 3-4 EUR. Alcoholic cocktails are slightly more expensive. Somewhere 6 EUR. But a bottle of wine will cost you 17 EUR.

I can suggest the following bars:

  • Barbarista(Marktplatz, 1) - restaurant, cafe and bar in one place. In addition to gourmet dishes, you can try alcoholic cocktails for 6 EUR or beer for 3 EUR.
  • Treibgut Lindau(Metzgergasse, 14) - a pub in the city center where you can relax well after an eventful day.
  • Theo's Symposium Bar(Salzgasse, 3) is a cocktail bar popular with locals.

Clubs and nightlife

As far as I know, the city's nightlife is well developed. Preference is mainly given to live music, which is performed in almost all styles. Entrance to the party costs from 18 EUR. Here are some popular establishments:

extreme sports

The city is located on Lake Constance, which means that there is a great opportunity for canoeing, windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding.

Training courses can be taken at the Kreitmeir surf school, Eichwaldstraße 20.

For beginners, a full windsurfing course is suitable, which lasts 5 days and costs 199 EUR.

In addition to windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding courses, the company rents equipment. So, the rental of equipment for an hour of windsurfing costs 15 EUR.

Souvenirs. What to bring as a gift

It is written in detail about national souvenirs. If you are interested in what to bring from Lindau, I can advise the following:

How to move around the city

The old part of the city, which is located on the island, can be easily explored on foot.

But you can go to the modern part by Stadtbus bus. How to do this, I described above.

Taxi. What features exist

To get to the right place, I advise you to call the Taxi Würtemberger service in advance on the number: 0800 / 33 27 000. The taxi transfers from Lindau to Munich Airport for a fixed price of 350 EUR. But from eight in the evening there is a surcharge of 10%. You can also pay for your trip with a credit card.

Lindau - holidays with children

It is definitely worth going to Lindau with children, as being in the city itself will instill in your child a love of travel and active family vacation.

Children can be accommodated in the Rogg holiday home (Paradiesweg 45), which has a large playground with a trampoline, swings, slides and table tennis. Children will also be pleased with domestic animals.

You can go to the indoor pool Limare (Bregenzer Str. 37) with big amount slides.

As far as I know, there are no children's entertainment centers in Lindau. But there is an opportunity to have a great time with the family.

Lindau is the only city on the Bodensee that is officially Bavarian. The old part of the city, located on the island, is connected to the coast by a railway and a road bridge. Lindau, which originated in Roman times as a fishing village, is very beautiful. In the XIII century. it received city status. It has preserved a medieval layout - around three long parallel streets.

Maximilianstrasse
The main and widest street of the city. Like the streets parallel to it - Inder-Grub and Ludwigsstrasse - it is built up with houses of the 15th-19th centuries.
The windows of small cozy houses, with pediments turned towards the street, are often separated by columns, and the harmony of the facades is broken by bay windows. Arcades and ancient lifting devices in the attics of houses remind that in the past the city was an important trading center.

old town hall
The old town hall, built in 1422-1436, was rebuilt several times - in the 16th century, in 1724 and 1865. In 1885-1887. Friedrich von Thiersch undertook a new reconstruction, restoring the stepped pediment removed in 1865 and reconstructing the outer staircase. The façade was painted by Josef Widman.

New town hall
The building of the New Town Hall, built in 1706-1717, was also rebuilt by Friedrich von Thiersch in 1885. The two-story building is crowned with a high figured skate, decorated with vases and sculptures, now this building houses a fabric store. Nearby you can book a tour to Paris from Kyiv or from any other part of the world.

House of Cavazzo
This aristocratic building was named after the Cavazzo family, who owned it from 1540 to 1617. The modern baroque building was built in 1729-1730. for the von Seutter family. It is distinguished by a high roof with an attic and a facade painted with images of herms, atlantes, sphinxes and fruit garlands. The house houses the City Museum (Stadtisches Museum), which has an interesting collection of handicraft tools.

Church of St. Stephen
Originally a Catholic church, it became Protestant in 1528. The original Romanesque building of the 12th century. updated several times (in the XIV, XV and XVI centuries). Now it is a basilica with three naves and a vaulted ceiling, dating from 1781-1783.

Cathedral of the Virgin Mary
At first, the church belonged to the Benedictines, who settled here around 800. The remains of a pre-Romanesque church (around 948) have been preserved near the western wall. Around 1100 a Romanesque basilica with a transcendent and a western tower appeared. After a fire that devastated the city in 1728, the church was rebuilt in the Romanesque style. The current "airy" baroque building, richly decorated with stucco and wall paintings, was the result of the work of Johann Kaspar Bagnato (1748-1755).

Harbor
The harbor was built in 1811 on the southern tip of the island, and in 1865 it was modernized. The marble figure of a lion, symbolizing Bavaria, is set on a pedestal 6 m high at the end of the pier at the entrance to the harbor. On the opposite pier rises a new 33 m high lighthouse tower. These two buildings have become a symbol of Lindau. The boulevard next to the harbor where the former lighthouse (Mangturm) stood is very popular with tourists. The old lighthouse, built around 1200, has a projecting upper storey and a pointed spire covered in the 19th century. glazed tiles. Initially, it was part of the city fortifications.

Church of St. Peter
This oldest church the Bodensee region. The altar and eastern parts date from about 1180. The western part appeared at the end of the 15th century. The five-level tower standing near the apse, originally built in the Romanesque style, was rebuilt in 1425. Inside the walls are painted with frescoes of the 13th-16th centuries. Some of them are attributed to Hans Holbein the Elder. Since 1928, the memorial museum of war heroes has been operating here. Next to the church stands a round thieves guard tower (Diebsturm), built in 1370-1380. and included in the defensive complex along with the Powder Tower (Pulverturm), Ludwig's Bastion (Ludwigsbastion) and Maximilian's Redoubt (Maximilianschanze).

Lindau is a pretty Bavarian city located on an island in the middle of Lake Constance. It is connected to the mainland by road and rail.

The unique atmosphere of the city consists of romantic and winding streets of the city, a cozy embankment, summer cafes, swaying yachts on the pier, old historical buildings and incendiary festivals.

The mild climate allows the resort season to last almost the whole year, but the tourist peak is in the summer. Therefore, in summer it is highly advisable to book rooms in advance, several weeks in advance.

Passing through the center of the old city, it appeared in the Middle Ages. Walking along this small street (its length is no more than 250 meters), enjoying the view of the old houses of the XV-XVII centuries, looking at the paintings and emblems on the walls, everyone can take a trip into the past. The street begins next to the church of St. Peter, and ends with the embankment and the port.

The oldest Lindau temple is almost a thousand years old. It was founded by families of fishermen. They gave it a name in honor of the patron saint Peter.

Previously, the massive church played the role of a fortress and was often damaged during captures. In the 17th century, the church completely fell into disrepair and was abandoned. new life she found in 1921, when an art gallery was housed within its walls.

Location: Unterer Schrannenplatz - 1.

Unusual colorful painting gives the building a special style. The exposition of the museum is divided into three parts. The impressive first hall is occupied by the history of the life of the city in the XV-XIX centuries, with a rich collection of rulers' furniture. The second is various archaeological finds, a collection of clocks and church utensils. The third hall tells about the musical life of the city, there is a collection of music boxes, hurdy-gurdies and pianos.

Location: Maximillianstrasse 6.

Previously, the snow-white church was a parish church, but with the beginning of the Reformation it became Lutheran. The architecture of the graceful church is Romanesque and Gothic.

Inside there is a white-stone vault, generously painted with floral patterns. Not far from the church you can see a fountain dedicated to Neptune.

Location: Marktplatz, 8.

The attraction is located on the historic Bismarckplatz. The building hosted a meeting of the Reichstag of Maximilian the First. In the middle of the 17th century, it was here that a centuries-old tradition began - holding a children's festival.

Of particular interest are the fairly new frescoes on the facade of the house. The artist depicted the arrival in the city of King Philip the Handsome, citizens in rich clothes, musicians, farmers and fishermen. At the end of the last century, the frescoes were reconstructed, now they look like new.

Location: Bismarckplatz - 4.

Not far from the Old Town Hall, a new building was erected. It was built in 1717. The style of the building is late Baroque. It has three tiers, 24 bells hang on the middle tier (in a small niche). Once a day they make a melodic ringing.

Location: Bismarckplatz - 3.

The theater building belongs to the former church of the Franciscan Order. The temple has a turbulent history: there was a parish church, a barracks, a library. Only in 1868 a theater was placed in the building. In the middle of the last century, the interior was restored. In addition to the usual theater, puppet performances are held here.

Location: Fischergasse, 37.

The tower is located in the southwest of the city. It was built back in 1379, as part of the city bastion, and used as a prison. There are four small towers under the red roof.

One of oldest lighthouses lake (XIV century) is located in the city port. The tower is 20 meters high and has 5 floors. It is covered with colorful tiles. Inside run only on major holidays.

The city harbor is considered a separate attraction of the city - it is the first thing tourists who come by ferry see it. On one side is a six-meter statue of a lion, considered a symbol of Bavaria, and on the other, a tall New Lighthouse with 140 steep steps.

Beacon height - 36 meters, at the top - an observation deck with an amazing view of the water surface, the Alps, the island. To admire the surroundings, you will have to pay more than two euros.

After which they are treated to sweet pastries, and an entertainment program for children is held.

The triad of local holidays ends with a merry November Fair. The event has been held annually since 1652 and has not lost its popularity. These days, many bright tents and stalls are set up on the city embankment, contests, street performances, and fireworks are held.

The history of the city begins in the distant 9th century, when a monastery was built on a small island with an area of about 0.7 sq. km. For more than 1100 years of existence, Lindau has developed, and next to the island, on the shores of Lake Constance, a modern city has appeared.
