What places can you visit in Cyprus. Excursions in Cyprus: Ancient Salamis. Transfers to resorts

The culture of Cyprus has been shaped by the traditions of many ancient civilizations- the territory of the island was mastered by the Greeks, Romans, Phoenicians and Byzantines. The Turks and the British left their mark here. So the island has enough original attractions, many of which have withstood the test of millennia.

We will talk about the top five attractions in Cyprus, look at Paphos, Limassol and Ayia Napa, study the cost of excursions in Cyprus and go by ferry to Israel. Particular attention will be paid to children.

The main attractions of Cyprus - from Paphos to Ayia Napa

Cyprus is literally full of historical artifacts, so there are enough interesting places to visit here. We recommend not to bypass the local museums - they are full of exhibits from ancient eras. Historical monuments should be looked for not only in the outback - a large number of them are concentrated in Nicosia, Paphos, Larnaca and Limassol.

How to get to the island Russian tourist, and , you already know. Cyprus - amazing place. You can sunbathe on the beach, the best sandy beaches of Cyprus, and a thousand-year-old abandoned temple will rise ten meters from you. Now let's go over the main Cypriot resorts in search of attractions:

  • Ayia Napa. Here you should definitely look at the Venetian monastery, visit the water park and sunbathe on one of the beaches.
  • Limassol. What to see in Limassol? Among historical monuments the castle of Kolossi, the local fortress, the ruins of Kourion and the sanctuary of Apollo Khilati stand out.
  • Larnaca. Here you need to visit the monastery of Stavrovouni, the traditional village of Lefkara, the church of St. Lazarus and the settlement of Khirokitia - one of the oldest on the island. The city of Kition, built by the Phoenicians, also deserves attention.
  • Pathos. The main attractions of Paphos are the Royal Tombs, the Villa of Dionysus, the village of Kouklia, the catacombs of St. Solomon and Petra tou Romiou. Be sure to check out national park Akamas and local Archaeological Museum.
  • Nicosia. Here, the most significant objects will be the Venetian Column, the Famagusta Gate, the Archbishop's Palace and the Selimiye Mosque.

To cover as many interesting places as possible, it is worth exploring in advance transport system Cyprus. It is rather poorly developed - there is not only domestic air traffic, but also rail transport.

If you are just preparing for a trip, then you will find a list of all airports in Cyprus. Between Larnaca and Paphos ply pleasure planes- They are actively used by tourists. In addition, you will have to use:

  • buses (there are three types of them in Cyprus);
  • taxis (village, intracity, intercity route);
  • rented car (- separate article).

Five places everyone should visit in Cyprus

Of all the abundance of attractions in Cyprus, we have to choose the five most exciting ones that are worth seeing on your own. Items of your compulsory program look like this:

Excursions in Cyprus - what to visit

If you are tired of traveling on your own, the hour has come to find out which excursions are worth visiting in Cyprus. There are group, individual excursions and so-called gourmet tours (for lovers of delicious food).

Let's bring short review Cypriot excursions along with their cost:

base cost individual excursion- 270-320 euros.

It's only worth trusting tourism organizations, since many private guides do not have insurance and licenses, and their cars are so broken that they pose a potential danger.

Excursions from Protaras

Donkey safari is also available in Protaras - however, the price of the tour will be 35-65 euros. From the same city you can go on the following tours:

  • Suite Grand Tour ( mountain range Troodos) - 30-60 euros;
  • Kerinia - Bellapais (the program includes the castle of St. Hilarion, Belapais Abbey and Kerinian harbor) - 35-70 euros;
  • Famagusta - 35-70;
  • Sea safari - 35-65;
  • Sunset Cruise + Show dancing fountains – 60-100;
  • Marine Adventure Safari (Research sea caves and grottoes) - 20-35.

Cyprus is a favorite holiday destination for many Russians. Many museums, rich nature, ruins of ancient cities, clean beaches, interesting architecture, amazing climate - all this you will definitely find on the island. Contrary to popular belief, there is a lot to see in Cyprus. Yes, the island is small, but there are a lot of excursions here. In this article, I will not describe all the excursions and entertainment. The guides of your tour operator will do it for me. Not a single tourist has left this procedure yet. We will consider only those places that will fully reveal the culture of this country, and also find out how it is more profitable - through an agency or to see each attraction on your own. So, let's begin.

This is a must see in Cyprus - the world's only capital city of two countries! The perfect place to get to know the culture and history of the island. Here is the Archaeological Museum - one of the best in the country. The museum contains exhibits from prehistoric times! The museum helps a lot to look at the world and modernity in a different way. You can get to the museum both as part of a sightseeing tour of Nicosia (≈40 euros per person, the presence of a museum in the program depends on the organizer), and on your own (≈5 euros for an entrance ticket).

Nicosia is easy to explore on your own, especially if you rent a car. It's cheaper and more interesting. You can enjoy the unique atmosphere old quarters. For example, in Buyuk Khan - the largest caravanserai in Cyprus, excursion groups they rarely look, but in vain. It was built by the Turks back in 1572 and is still in excellent condition. Today it houses souvenir shops and coffee shops. By all means look into one of them and taste real Cypriot coffee, it will pleasantly surprise you

After a historical and cultural immersion, visit the atmospheric Hammam Omeriye. The incredible beauty of the hammam building was built by the Ottomans in 1571 and is still functioning! These people really know a lot about two things: how to build and in the art of bathing!

Troodos mountains: sheep and cherry orchards

The Troodos Mountains are especially nice in summer. You can hide from the annoying heat, enjoy the purest air, the scent of pine trees and see mouflons - a rare variety of sheep and one of the symbols of the island. There are ten UNESCO temples in Troodos! There are no noisy tourist groups. Only silence majestic peaks mountains, unique Byzantine architecture monasteries and lost authentic villages with cherry orchards, mountain springs and temples.

I recommend going to Troodos with an excursion (≈40 euros). Without a guide, it will be difficult to understand the nuances of the architecture and history of these places. Difficult mountain roads and many interesting, beautiful, but hidden from a stranger places are also not conducive to self-examination.

Larnaca or castle, mosque, flamingos

Sightseeing tours are led around Larnaca (≈40 euros). It usually includes only temples, monasteries and the church of St. Lazarus. Interestingly, in general, not everyone. There are more interesting places in the city that are rarely included in group tours and they are all freely available.

Most interesting objects cities - Larnaca castle and mosque Hala Sultan Tekke. If the castle is interesting in itself, then there is a whole epic behind the mosque. It was built in honor of a woman - a rare case in Islam. Her name was Umm Haram. Together with her husband, she went to conquer Cyprus, where she found her death. Only not enemy arrows and not a sharp sword killed this revered lady, but only an unsuccessful fall from a mule ... By the way, they say that the stone on her tomb is not a stone at all, but a real huge meteorite.

Flamingos often fly to the Salt Lake in Larnaca. It is right behind the mosque, so do not be too lazy to go there.

Are the beaches of Ayia Napa an attraction?

Ayia Napa has been awarded international recognition in the form of blue flags- a sign of safety and cleanliness of the beaches. In addition, Ayia Napa attracts tourists with a cool water park and ancient grottoes. In general, I always recommend to my tourists to choose hotels here (well, or in Protaras at least). Hotels here are more expensive than in other areas. But best beaches Cyprus is worth every ruble spent. You can also get to Ayia Napa with an excursion (≈30 euros). Expensive and somehow sad - for the money to watch how others rest.

Protaras and Limassol

The dancing fountains in Protaras are the best entertainment in Cyprus. The fountain show can only be seen in the evenings in weekdays from April to November. If you live in Ayia Napa or Protaras, you can take buses 101 and 102 to the fountains. Combine the show with dinner at one of the taverns nearby the fountains. Just book your seats early.

There are few entertainments in Protaras. In addition to the fountain show, there is also an aquarium. Tours are offered to everyone without exception. The entrance ticket is inexpensive (≈14 euros + transfer), but the oceanarium does not even work off this money. Tourists are very unhappy with this place. I believe them.

Limassol is also not the place where you need to go on purpose. Don't waste a lot of time and money on it. But if your hotel is located nearby, be sure to take a walk along the promenade to the harbor and Limassol Castle.

Paphos ... but what do you know about it?

As you understand, Limassol and Protaras are not very interesting for sightseeing holiday. Another thing - Paphos! One name of this resort city does not allow you to ignore it. Visit it at least so that upon arrival you can say to your friends in a businesslike manner: “What do you know about pathos?”. By the way, contrary to the meaning that Russian speakers often put into this word, it is in Paphos that one of the most budget hotels In Cyprus.

Among the attractions here you will find:

  • medieval fortress;
  • archeopark;
  • catacombs;
  • royal tombs;
  • beautiful embankment;
  • beach of Aphrodite;
  • and a couple of ancient monasteries.

I will not list each one. You can explore all these places both independently and with sightseeing tour in Paphos (≈40 euros). If you are driving big family or a company, it is more profitable to rent a car. No serious difficulties will arise. If you are two or three people, it is more profitable to take a tour.

A few words about Kyrenia

Perhaps this is the best and most interesting place in Cyprus! It is easily accessible by car, but I recommend taking a guided tour (≈50 euros). Kyrenia - seaport in Northern Cyprus. Known primarily for its medieval harbor, romantic atmosphere, stunning views of the bay, the sea and the coast of neighboring Turkey! Not far from Kyrenia is located impregnable castle St. Hilarion and Bellapais Abbey, the ruins of which would organically fit into the entourage of the famous television series Game of Thrones.

The dead city of Famagusta

Half a century ago, Famagusta was the center of the resort life of the island. Prominent statesmen, politicians and businessmen rested here. The resort was considered elite. They came here to spend money. Today, Famagusta is a dead city, a resort where, apart from dilapidated hotels and dilapidated houses, there is nothing. Want to see what the world will look like after people disappear? That way. The contrast of amazing sandy beaches, abandoned once luxurious five-star hotels and the very sad history of the city will cause more than one herd of goosebumps.

I do not recommend going to Famagusta on your own, although it is possible. To feel this place, you need a good guide, preferably from the former inhabitants of the dead city. Excursions are inexpensive (≈35 euros), but there are also more expensive ones, depending on the occupancy.

Gastronomy & souvenirs

Gastro tour (≈36 euros) - The best way try out national cuisine and wine. Of course, in any traditional tavern you can try local dishes, but only on a gastro tour you can taste several types of cheeses, sweets, wine, olives, butter, honey and listen to a lecture on the Mediterranean diet. After that, you will know exactly what to bring friends as a gift and what not to. Well, do not forget to try the famous Commandaria or "wine of kings" - a national wine made according to a special old recipe from a mix of white and red grapes. They say that the recipe is still classified at the state level so that the wine is not produced in other countries. I don't know how true this is, but why don't you find out?

I talk about the best sights and the most interesting places Cyprus, which has already traveled far and wide several times. This is not just another selection of places pulled from the Internet, but carefully and personally researched locations. These are space views and panoramas, ancient monasteries in the mountains and the most picturesque and unusual villages and the best beaches of Cyprus.

I would return to each of these places without hesitation and return more than once. You can spend a whole day in each place, each place is unique and has no analogues in Cyprus. By visiting all these attractions, you can get the most complete picture of Cyprus, the nature of the island, beaches, mountain villages and monasteries. You will see the cities of Cyprus anyway, so they are not on the list.

There is not a single checkpoint in the list, each of the places and attractions listed below I proceeded and traveled far and wide.

I am making this list in order to help those who want to skim off the cream while traveling, see all the coolest things and devote the rest of their time to passive relaxation on the beaches and in bars. By the way, there are also beaches in this list.

For convenience and clarity, we will move from southwest to southeast and finish at Northern Cyprus. You can also connect all these places and get a beautiful road route across Cyprus.

1| Avakas Gorge

More picturesque place wildlife for a short walking track in Cyprus is hard to find. Avakas is very reminiscent of the canyons and gorges of the wild west of the United States. First you go through picturesque forest between majestic rocks. Already after half a kilometer, the rocks narrow overhead and it becomes somewhat creepy - underfoot there is a stream and slippery stones, water oozes through black rocks from above, birds of prey fly overhead.

Avakas Gorge

How to get there and where is the Avakas gorge

From Paphos you need to go in the direction Coral Bay beach on the road that is Agios Georgios, then you pass the sign for the Paphos Zoo, follow the same road along the sea and get to the parking lot where you need to leave the car and then go to the entrance to Avakas Gorge walk, about 1 kilometer from the parking lot. The distance from Paphos to Parking is about 20 km.

You should know that the gorge is closed during the rains. The entrance to the gorge is free. For a visit Avakas taking into account the road from Paphos and back, it is worth planning at least 3 hours.

Avakas Gorge

2| Aphrodite Trail and Akamas Peninsula

The coolest place with practically untouched nature in Cyprus, occupies the entire southwestern tip of the island of Cyprus and is natural Park protected by the state. The most convenient way to get here is from Paphos and Polis.

The most striking place on the Akamas peninsula is the path of Aphrodite, which intersects with the path of Adonis and passes along the most picturesque places coast and forest. It starts near the village of Latchi, from there there is a pointer to the baths of Aphrodite - that's where you need to go.

Aphrodite trail on the Akamas peninsula, Latchi

3| Kykkos Monastery

I thought for a long time whether or not to include this monastery in the list of the best places to visit in Cyprus. On the one hand, the place is too hyped and touristy, on the other hand, it is a large historical and architectural monument, and most importantly, the picturesque Mountain road and small but nice looking sights along it.

Kykkos Monastery

You can get to Kykkos from Paphos, from Polis or Limassol, the distance from Polis to Kykkos is 60 km, from Paphos and Limassol to the Kykkos Monastery is 70 km. In all cases, you need to drive at least 2 hours, and taking into account stops in beautiful places and at the observation decks - at least 3 hours. Therefore, feel free to plan 2.5 - 3 hours on the way there and 1.5 hours on the way back. You need to leave as early as possible in the morning in order to have time to get to the monastery before the arrival of organized tourist groups and pilgrims. Usually people gather by 10:30 - 11:00 in the morning and the tourist hell. If you want to see a monastery like the one in the photo above, you should arrive in Kykkos at least by 9 am and leave no later than 6 am, or even earlier.

Entrance to the monastery is free, parking is also free.

Kykkos Monastery

4| Kakopetria village

This Cypriot village has become a discovery for us and an absolute must visit place in the Troodos mountains. Of interest is its old part in the center - Old Kakopetria, which is a maze of tangled cobbled streets above a seething river stream. You need to walk both along the old part and down along the river - there is walking route and a mini-quay, which starts from the old mill.

It is not difficult to get there, but get ready for picturesque serpentines - the village lies high in the mountains. The closest is Limassol, only fifty kilometers and a little more than an hour ride.

You need to leave early in the morning and plan for the whole trip at least one day and this will be one of your better days in Cyprus, believe me.

Kakopetria village

5| Lefkara village

A frequenter of many routes in Cyprus and a must-see item for tour operators is the village of Lefkara. In addition to the rustic element with the obligatory stone streets and beautiful Cypriot facades of houses and churches, handmade silver and lace are produced in Lefkara, which are also made by hand.

The easiest way to get there is from Larnaca, less than an hour drive along simple serpentines and an excellent road. It is worth spending at least two to three hours on Lefkara and should be combined with the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia, or the villages in the vicinity.

Lefkara village

The most convenient way to get to Lefkara is from Limassol or Larnaca.

6| Nissi Beach

8| Cape Greco

It's already southeastern part islands, also a natural park, although more accessible than. On extreme point located military base and there isn't much to see there. I would recommend walking through walking trail from blue lagoon before churches Agioi Anargiroi and continue along the same path to beautiful beach Konnos beach. Get both visual and physical pleasure from contemplating the rocky shores, azure water and flowers. Flowers are true only in spring, in March April, and I consider this time of the year the best to visit Cape Greco.

The best sights of Cyprus - Cape Greco

9| Medina of Famagusta

Famagusta- This Northern part Cyprus, which the Turks chopped off from the Cypriots. I will write more about this place in more detail, but for now I recommend the city center - the medina, surrounded by a fortress wall, inside which there are all churches, mosques and streets. Some of the architectural monuments have been destroyed, but all of them together make up a rather significant object to visit. There are also several good restaurants and a cafe for a bite to dine overlooking the old town.

I think Famagusta a must-visit place when compiling itinerary in northern cyprus.

Before Famagusta the most convenient way to get from Ayia Napa, from there it is best to build. The whole route will take at least a whole day.

Medina of Famagusta

10| Embankment and fortress of Kyrenia

Kyrenia- Another fortified city that is a must-see in Cyprus. It is really impressive - a very well-preserved medieval fortress on the shore mediterranean sea, near the harbor for yachts and boats (marina) and a steep view of the city skyline. Along the fortress there is an embankment - the best place for evening walks On the Sunset. I would advise you to spend the night in Kyrenia, there are a lot of inexpensive hotels and apartments. IN around Kyrenia there are three more fortresses in the mountains - Buffavento, Kantara and St.Hillarion, as well as several noteworthy beaches.

It is impossible to travel around Cyprus even in a month, despite the size, but I have collected the best of the best on this page - it's true.

How to rent a car cheaply in Cyprus

I remind you that the only way to travel around Cyprus is by renting a car - it's cheap, convenient and fast. This is the second time we've used the search cars in Cyprus through the MyRentacar.com website - many local car rental companies are collected there, I immediately see the final price without hidden fees and get a specific car, not an abstract type of car. A bonus is round-the-clock Russian-speaking support, it is easier to solve minor problems here. I can safely recommend this resource to other independent travelers.

How to buy cheap flights to Cyprus

One of the two international airports in Cyprus - Larnaca, which has many direct flights from Moscow, Kyiv, Riga, Tel Aviv and other cities. You can choose a flight and buy cheap air tickets on the website aviasales.ru. I recommend checking the availability of cheap flights on the low price calendar.

Airport transfer in Cyprus

Cyprus- top summer direction and often taxi drivers at the airport raise prices for their services. In addition, most of them do not have child car seats. It is not installed because it takes the place of an adult passenger. Because of this, tourists with children have to run around the airport in search of a free car with a child car seat.

Both problems are very easy to solve. Transfer, both individual and group is possible. There you can also choose the option with a child seat. You will not have to overpay taxi drivers and there will be no problems with the safety of children.

Everything happens very simply. After, you will be met by a driver with a sign on which your name will be written. Immediately after leaving the arrivals hall, you get into the car and drive to your hotel.

How to find an inexpensive hotel or apartment in Cyprus

I use the trusted Booking.com and aggregator site RoomGuru (HotelsCombined) . The choice of housing, even for such small island How Cyprus, on these resources is huge, but I recommend booking in advance - best options diverge a couple of months before high season(July August).

The island of Cyprus is a diverse island for recreation and tourism. Any tourist will find entertainment to their taste here. Antique lovers can visit medieval castles and fortresses. Temples and monasteries are open for those interested in religious issues.

For family vacation Aquariums and water parks are well suited. And during the breaks you can relax on the beautiful sandy beaches islands. However, this is far from full list all attractions on the island. Below is more complete list places to visit.

The only caveat of the island is that it is divided into two parts. Greek Cypriots live on one part, and Turks on the other.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, archaeologists discovered a number of graves in which representatives of the nobility were buried. However, despite the name of the place, the kings were never buried here. Why has such a name been fixed? History is silent on this. Perhaps because of the grandeur of some of the tombs, which in their scope are not inferior to the royal ones.

The burial area is quite extensive. Tombs are scattered everywhere and appear in completely unexpected places. And you can easily get lost among the paths and structures.

Built in the Byzantine style, the Archbishop's Palace attracts attention with its elegance and beauty. On the territory of the palace you can find a building gothic style And Cathedral. And between them take a walk through a small pretty garden.

Location: Archiepiskopou Kyprianou Square, Nicosia.

The Baths of Aphrodite is the place where, according to legend, Aphrodite took a bath. The place is a grotto, framed by trees and flowers. In the bath itself, the water is cold enough to take a dip. But nearby there is a stone with stagnant water, from which you can sprinkle water to rejuvenate and gain strength, as the legend says. On the way to the bath, at the place where the path forks, if you go to the left, you can enter and walk through the garden.

The stones of Aphrodite are another legendary place associated with the goddess of beauty and love. It was from here, according to legend, that Aphrodite emerged from sea foam To the shore. There is a belief that if a couple in love swims in this bay, they will never part.

However, singles are given a chance in this tradition. According to him, men, having bathed, acquire unprecedented masculine strength. And women, having swum around the rock, become much younger than their years.

Location: Petra tou Romiou beach.

Not many crops are grown in Cyprus. One of them is grapes. Therefore, the production of wines on the island is historically well developed. It is diverse. One of the most famous brands is KEO.

Introductory tours are held at the KEO factory, where they talk about the wine production process in detail. They lead them through the halls where the grapes are pressed, go down to the cellars where the bottles are stored. And at the end, a tasting of local brands of wines is offered. The wines you like can be purchased right there in the shop at the factory.

Near the old port, surrounded by ancient streets and houses, in the town of Limassol is located medieval castle. According to legend, Richard the Lionheart himself married his bride here.

Now there is a museum dedicated to that period. Visitors can admire the collection of armor and various weapons.

Additionally, you can climb to the roof spiral staircase and enjoy the panorama of the city.

The fortifications of the city were built during the Byzantine era. A wall was built along the perimeter of the city, and two towers were the gates to the port. At the end of the 15th century, there was a strong earthquake, as a result of which one of the towers was destroyed. The military settled the Ford in the second tower.

The ford is located at the end of the embankment, and you can enter it completely free of charge. Inside, no exhibits are presented, apart from the bare walls. At the top is an observation deck. However, you will have to pay to get there.

Near the city of Limassol is a well-preserved medieval fortress. Its name comes from the name of the first owner of the castle, feudal lord Garinus de Colossus. Then for a long time this castle was used as the residence of the Knights Templar. There are even ancient frescoes inside.

For a small fee, you can visit the vast premises of the three-story castle, where various exhibitions are held, as well as go to observation deck on the roof.

Kyrenia Castle (Northern Cyprus)

On the Turkish territory of the island in the port of Kyrenia is the Kyrenia Castle, founded by the Byzantines. The lock was used different time both military and police base. Now there are shipwreck museums, a torture museum and various exhibits demonstrating the weapons and life of that era. On the roof you can see the surrounding landscapes from a height.

Buffavento Castle (Northern Cyprus)

Buffavento Castle on north side Cyprus is located on a mountain, and it will take about 4 kilometers to climb to it. It will take around 30-40 minutes. Therefore, it is advisable not to climb in the very heat and heat, so as not to expose the body to excessive stress. But from the top it offers a magnificent view of north coast islands.

The castle is located so high for a reason. It was built by the Byzantines to protect against Muslim raids and served as a good outpost for observing coastal zone. Later there was a prison for especially dangerous criminals.

The castle got its name from the phrase Italian"merry winds", due to the fact that strong winds always blow here.

There are also many different legends associated with it. One of them tells about a healing spring, where you can be cured of all diseases, which is located nearby. But, unfortunately, it will not be possible to visit it, since it is located on the territory of a military base.

Ghost town of Varosha (Northern Cyprus)

In the northern part of Cyprus, where Turkish side, you can find the abandoned ghost town of Varosha. At one time it was a very pretentious resort where celebrities and the rich rested. White sand for the beach it was specially brought from Egypt, and hotels offered to be located in comfortable rooms.

But in 1974, one day, due to a political upheaval, people had to urgently leave the city. The city was surrounded by a fence, prohibition signs were hung out and guards were put up.

Photography is still prohibited on the territory, but you can admire the gloomy abandoned buildings from the beach of Famagust.

Near the city of Larnaca is located salt Lake. However, in the fall you may not notice it. During this period, the lake dries up and looks like white desert. After winter, when the rainy season begins, it is filled with water, about 10 centimeters deep. At the end of spring they come here pink flamingos and you can watch them all summer.

There is another attraction on the shore of the lake - the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque, one of the world's main Muslim shrines, but only men are allowed to enter there.

Near the village of Khirokitia, archaeologists dug up an ancient settlement dating back to the 7th-9th centuries BC. The settlement is included in the UNESCO protection lists.

On the territory of the complex there are reconstructions of the dwellings of local settlers. You can wander through the excavations, imagining how ancient people led their lives. An interesting point is that the inhabitants of their dead were buried right there, under the floor of their dwellings.

In the city of Paphos, in order to hide from persecution, the early Christians dug catacombs for themselves, where they lived, prayed and buried the dead. Catacombs are a network of caves used for various purposes, and corridors connecting them. At the very bottom of the caves there was a well, where, according to legend, there is water that helps to cure eye diseases.

For a visit, it is advised to grab a flashlight to highlight in especially dark places. The entrance is free.

The male monastery in Kykkos is one of the most famous monasteries in Cyprus. A miraculous icon is kept within its walls. Mother of God. Inside the monastery, there are frescoes on the walls telling about the history of the appearance of the famous icon.
