There are many unusual and even mysterious places on earth that differ not only in their unique beauty, breathtaking landscapes and rich flora. There are many interesting and rather strange places that look completely alien.

We present a selection of the most unusual corners on earth.

Valley of the Moving Stones, California

IN US state California is a real geological phenomenon, over the study of which world scientists are still struggling. This is a valley of moving or wandering (creeping) stones. She was discovered at the bottom of an old dry lake in the south of Death Valley. Incredibly, in this area, large boulders slowly move along a completely even and flat clay surface, leaving a long trail behind them!

To date, the official hypothesis of the phenomenon of the Valley of Crawling Stones is the following version - stone blocks move due to the power of wind and water. After the rains, this lake fills with water and the clay soil becomes wet. Because of this, the friction force decreases, and hurricane gusts of wind make the stones “crawl” along the plain, leaving furrows behind them.

However, no one can yet explain the fact why the stones lying nearby begin to “spread” in different directions, and some do not move at all. In addition, it remains a mystery why the boulders wander throughout the valley, because under the influence of the wind they must move in one direction of the lake.

Scientists are actively working on unraveling the mystery of this place. By the way, there is also a mystical version of this phenomenon, associated with otherworldly forces.

Weathering pillars on the Manpupuner Plateau - Russia

In the Troitsko-Pechora region of the Komi Republic, on the Manpupuner plateau, there is another unusual natural place - 7 giant stone giants were formed here, each of which reaches a height of 30 to 42 meters. They are called weathering pillars or Mansi blockheads.

According to the main version, the blocks were formed in the process of weathering and washing out rocks. Once this place was considered mystical and shamans performed their rituals here, who claimed that spirits inhabit the plateau.

This place is quite popular with tourists. According to them, in this area there is really a special peaceful energy.

Waitomo Glowworm Caves in New Zealand

New Zealand's Waitomo region has stunning limestone caves that are unique in that they shimmer and glow thanks to the millions of fireflies that live in underground labyrinths. These small insects, members of the mushroom mosquito genus, emit phosphorescent light that creates unusual light installations.

This type of firefly lives only in New Zealand. Scientists say that the light from insects is emitted due to the fact that they are hungry - in this way, with the help of the glow, mosquitoes lure prey into their traps.

Fishing village in China, overgrown with jungle

In China, there is an unusual abandoned village that attracts tourists every year. Once upon a time, fishermen lived here and since then the settlement began to overgrow with grass and jungle, slowly turning into a green kingdom.

Crystals are like large rays that cut through space, they create an unusually breathtaking spectacle.

Antelope Canyon, USA

The most famous canyon in the southeastern part of America in the state of Arizona consists of two parts - the Upper Canyon (Gorge) and the Lower Canyon (Spirals). The Navajo Indians call the Upper Canyon the place where water flows through the rocks, and the Lower Canyon is the spiraling slopes of the rocks.

"Bloody Pond" in Japan

IN Japanese city Beppu has an unusual "bloody" pond, the red color of which is due to the high level of iron in the water. The pond is a thermal spring and a landmark of the city.

Eye of the Sahara, Mauritania

In the Richat structure, on the African continent, there is a truly mystical and mysterious place called the Eye of the Sahara. He represents bizarre figure from several concentric rings. These circles are visible even from space. They are located at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level in the Sahara Desert.

According to one version, the Eye was formed from a meteorite impact. However, today geologists are inclined to the hypothesis that the Richat structure was formed as a result of erosion. Until now, world scientists are struggling with the reason for the round shape of this miracle.

Danakil Depression and Dallol volcano in Ethiopia

In Ethiopia, there is one unique and extraordinary place - the Danakil Depression, which is rightfully considered one of the hottest places on Earth. In the cool season, the thermometer shows a temperature of 35 ° C, and in the hot season - about 60 ° C!

The reason for the bright colorful colors of the depression is that due to the separation of tectonic plates in this place, the waters of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden come to the earth. It should be added that this zone is quite radiative and volcanic.

The dormant volcano Dallol is also located here - the area around it is considered the hottest place on Earth. And the landscapes seem absolutely fantastic and even alien due to their colorfulness. Salts of iron, potassium, manganese are washed to the surface by hot springs, so the local landscapes are painted in a variety of colors.

According to astronomers, this is what the surface of one of Jupiter's moons, Io, looks like.
The last time the Dallol volcano erupted was in 1926.

Dry valleys in Antarctica

The valleys in Antarctica are the driest place on earth. This area has had no precipitation at all for several million years! The local climate is similar to the climate of Mars, so these deserts are of great interest to NASA employees. In the valleys, rovers are being tested, as well as various studies.

It should be noted that the dry part of Antarctica is not covered with ice. In this unusual place, there is a frozen lake with very salty water, in which unknown organisms were found.

There are various places in the world that are distinguished by their natural beauty, colorfulness, landscapes and rich vegetation. Others are beautiful in their simplicity and subtlety. In this article, you will find something that you probably have not seen before: the strangest places in the world, but at the same time incredible beautiful.

1. "Bloody Pond" in Japan

Opening our list of the strangest places on Earth is the bloody spring (called Jigoku, which means hell) - a landmark of the city of Beppu, one of nine thermal springs that are more appropriate to look at than to swim in them.

The reddish color is due to the presence of high levels of iron in the hot waters, which makes this place rather strange.

2. Ice Caves Eisriesenwelt (Austria)

These are the longest ice caves in the world. Today, only a small part of them is open to the public, but this is surprisingly enough to allow visitors to feel the wonderful and mysterious whim of nature.

This strange place is located in the Richat structure, on the African continent. It can be seen from space due to its length of almost 50 km. The structure is located at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level in the Sahara desert in Mauritania and has curious concentric rings. This huge unusual lake is located between the state of Washington and the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is rich in Natural resources, but the most surprising thing about it is the strange formation of circles with white borders and puddles inside, reflecting sunlight in blues and greens, like mirrors or doors to other worlds.

7. Dry deserts of Antarctica

These are genuine dry valleys in Antarctica with dark gravel scattered across the ground, similar to volcanic areas on canary islands, which are equated with Mars. The valley is so cool and dry (the most dry place on earth) that everything that dies there is preserved as a mummy. It is like a natural freezer. In addition, here you can find the corpses of seals that died several centuries ago.

Our own little Mars on Earth is in Spain. The similarity of this strange place with the red planet is so high that NASA conducted various experiments here because of this. This river creates such an unusual environment because of the huge acidity, namely the red color betrays the high content of copper. All this is due to the fact that gold and copper were mined on the river.

This island has very interesting vegetation which makes it a unique and almost anomalous ecosystem. It is part of an archipelago consisting of four islands in the Indian Ocean, which were separated from Africa about 7 million years ago. Like the Galapagos Islands, they contain over 700 very rare species of both flora and fauna, and about a third are unique to this area.

Ethiopia's Afar Depression, better known as the Danakil Depression, is one of the hottest inhabited places on Earth, with temperatures ranging from 35 degrees Celsius when cool to around 60 degrees Celsius when hot. This is the area in the Horn of Africa where the tectonic plates, which contributes to the release of the waters of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. This is the reason for such bright colors of the landscape. It is worth noting that this is a very volcanic and radiation zone. Undoubtedly, this is one of the most unusual places on Earth.

11. Soaring Geyser Nevada

This geyser in Nevada is one of the strangest sights in the United States. It was created in 1916 by accident while drilling for oil wells: water heated by geothermal energy came to the surface, provoking this colorful spectacle. The geyser is made up of various minerals and thermophilic algae that shoot water jets 1.5m into the air and give it such a variety of colors and plastic appearance. This terrace consists of about 40 pools of water on an area of 30 hectares.

Located in Yellowstone National Park. It is the largest geothermal spring in the United States and the third largest in the world. With its appearance, it undoubtedly deserves a place in the list of the strangest places on the planet. The source is formed by thermophilic bacteria that produce colors from green to red. The colors depend on the ratio of chlorophyll and carotenoids, and on the temperature of the water.

These were strangest places on earth . I hope that the article was interesting for you. Thank you for your attention!

P.S. To consolidate the topic, I suggest watching a video selection of the most beautiful and unusual places on our planet:

Be sure to visit some of the most beautiful corners, and the impressions will never be erased from memory.

Table Mountain Roraima

The real spirit of freedom can be felt by flying on a rented plane over the tepui, which is located in South America on the border of Brazil, Venezuela and Havana. In the morning hours, it seems that the stone plateau seems to be floating in the clouds. This is the highest mountain in the region (area 30 km²), in the beliefs of the natives, it is considered the "navel of the earth" and the habitat of the Indian goddess.

A giant wrapped in clouds, covered with impenetrable forests and swamps, as if trying to hide his secret. In Arthur Conan Doyle's novel The Lost World, this particular bulk was described, on which, according to the author, prehistoric inhabitants lived. Unusual animals and amazing vegetation found shelter on the mountain.

martian style

Senegal is famous for pink lake, located 30 km from the capital - Dakar. The area of the reservoir is 3 square meters. kilometers, depth - more than 3 meters. But he did not always have such a color, but acquired relatively recently - during a drought in the 70s, when he became very shallow. It turned out that ancient cyanobacteria live in the lake, but no one else was found there. The concentration of salt here is higher than in the Dead Sea, which allows the locals to establish salt production.

Men and women work in manual production on the shore from dawn to night. Interestingly, in different time days, the reservoir acquires different colors, they depend on many external factors that affect the activity of cyanobacteria. Unfortunately, every year the lake becomes shallower and runs the risk of completely disappearing from the face of the planet. But while Retba is still here, she will delight people with unearthly landscapes.

Curse of Kelimutu

In the national park of Indonesia, on the top of one volcano, there are three completely different lakes. They have an amazing ability to change color, which, according to ancient beliefs, means the variability of souls. They could not be thoroughly studied, although the main cause is considered to be the action of gases escaping from the bottom. Surprisingly, the bodies of water change shades - from sky blue to rich green or blood red. Climbing to the top, it is impossible to predict the view that will open up to the traveler on a particular day.

Each has its own name and is surrounded by legends. According to legend, the Lake of the Elderly is the place where worthy souls go after death, usually it takes on shades of blue or white. The other two - Young Women, characterized by all shades of green, and the Enchanted Lake, guilty people fall into it, take on colors from deep black to red and sometimes release steam. A breathtaking sight, exhilarating legends - these are amazing places.

stone forest

He bristled with peaks in the Chinese province of Shilin. crystal lakes, bamboo groves, flower meadows and stone pillar trees of different sizes, created by lava and polished by rains, winds and time, give rise to amazing images of animals and give free rein to imagination. According to scientists, this place could be 270 million years old, possibly more.

Breathtaking views, touching legends, like a veil, envelop the forest with a mystical mystery that a person can no longer unravel. It remains only to enjoy the unique atmosphere and get lost in the maze stone formations, believe me, sensations. Most interesting places in the world are also in this forest.

Mendenhall Glacier

Ice is just frozen water. But not in Alaska. Not far from the city of Juneau, under the eternal radiance of the sun, cave systems formed in the glaciers, stretching for kilometers deep into the dark kingdom. The rays, falling inside, creating narrow channels, illuminate the ice blocks, thereby continuing to move and cutting through the deep darkness. The process never stops, each time new caves and passages appear. The structure of the transitions is unstable due to thawing, so the most daring, ready to take risks in the name of bewitching beauty, will be able to see the delightful union of ice and fire.

tulip fields

Every year, in the spring, as if by magic, the multi-kilometer plains of Holland begin to bloom. Not hundreds or even thousands, but millions of colors create incredible patterns and bizarre paintings on the canvas of nature. No wonder this country is considered the world's flower supplier. Ideal conditions for growth and modern high-tech methods of collection and sowing are created here.

In April, the most famous flower park on the planet, Keukenhof, opens its doors for just eight weeks. Large and small neat flower beds, meadows, lakes, 7 million tulips, a sea of other amazing flowers - eye candy and culture shock are guaranteed. And what aromas the park is filled with is even hard to imagine.

In normal times, it is a desert stretching for 1.5 thousand km², with dazzling snow-white dunes reaching 50 km in length, but during the rainy season the area is transformed beyond recognition. Between the dunes, lagoons with azure blue water appear. But this is not the only thing that surprises. The most striking thing is that crabs, turtles, fish and other inhabitants appear in temporary freshwater reservoirs!

crow cave

The underground world has been little studied due to its inaccessibility. But people learned some information about real life in the bowels of the earth after expeditions to the Crow Cave - the deepest in the world. She goes into the depths of 2196 meters. There is a miracle of speleology in Abkhazia, in the Arabica mountain range. The formation was discovered as early as 1960 and continues to be studied. In a grand dungeon, kilometers of passages are intertwined, behind which halls with stalactites, stalagmites and underground lakes open. Life has adapted even to conditions of pitch darkness. Researchers are discovering new organisms that have proven to be inventive in the depths of the earth. Their features include:

  • the ability to emit and perceive ultrasonic vibrations (especially pronounced in bats);
  • blindness, but at the same time increased sensitivity of the organs - touch and smell;
  • insects have developed "cave gigantism", that is, they act together as a single organism;
  • mixture of land and water animals.

horse tail

In Yosemite National Park, California, there is an incredible natural wonder - a waterfall called Horsetail. Most year is just a falling stream, beautiful, spectacular, about 480 meters high, consisting of two falling arms. But for a few days in February, it changes color to golden red, and it feels like not water, but hot lava flows flow down the mountain. The effect is due to a certain angle of the sun's rays, refracting, they create such a feeling. It looks extremely fabulous, and to call the phenomenon an optical illusion simply does not turn the tongue, nature has so skillfully transformed this area.

The story of miracles is just the tip of the iceberg. There are no limits to knowledge. Open your soul to something new, then interesting places in the world will beckon to you. Discoveries will not keep you waiting, because we live on the most incredible planet.

Each such attraction has its own legend and, of course, a lot of things are silent. Mysterious places cause a huge number of questions among scientists, confuse anomalous phenomena and unknown.

1. Devil's Tower, USA

The so-called Devil's Tower is actually a natural rock of amazingly regular shape and consists of columns with sharp corners. It's true mysterious place, which, according to research, is already more than 200 million years old, is located in the USA, on the territory of the modern state of Wyoming.

In size, the Devil's Tower is several times larger than the pyramid of Cheops and from the side resembles man-made structure. 5. Pyramids of Yonaguni, Japan

mysterious underwater pyramids near the western Japanese island of Yonaguni cause a lot of controversy among modern archaeologists and surveyors. The main question is whether the structures are a natural phenomenon, or whether they were created by the hand of an ancient person.

In the course of numerous studies, it was possible to establish that the age of the Yonaguni pyramids is more than 10 thousand years. Therefore, if the Yonaguna monuments created mysterious civilizations unknown to us, then the history of mankind should be rewritten.

The Nazca geoglyphs in Peru are one of the most mysterious places on the planet. They were discovered in the middle of the last century and are still being actively discussed by scientists who cannot unequivocally say what ancient people wanted to express with these giant drawings of animals and for what purpose they were used?

Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to ask the creators, but scientists offer 2 main versions: some, leaning towards the cosmic theory of the origin of geoglyphs, believe that they are landmarks for alien ships, others argue that they are giant lunar calendars. In any case, the Nazca rock paintings are proof of the existence of an ancient and mysterious civilization on the territory of modern Peru, which lived here long before the famous Incas and was distinguished by a high level of development.

Scientists have been interested in the hollow of black bamboo for more than a decade, who managed to prove that the valley in the Chinese province of Sichuan is an anomalous area with a difficult climate and dramatically changing weather conditions, which together provokes soil subsidence, which, according to scientists, are the reasons for the disappearance of people.

8. Path of the Giants, Ireland

The Path of the Giants, or the Road of the Giants in Northern Ireland, is an amazing coastal area that was formed many centuries ago as a result of a volcanic eruption. It consists of about 40 thousand basalt columns that look like giant steps.

Detailed overview amazing in terms of aesthetics and unique features landscape of places on the planet will provide an opportunity to understand what is true beauty universe.

First place - Bolivia. The beauty of Lake Uyuni

Perhaps we should start our top with this unique salt lake, which occupies the largest area in the world. Many call this Uyuni a place where time slows down. Surprising is the fact that the surface of the lake can be overcome on foot. During the rainy season, Uyuni undergoes some changes, eventually becoming a large-scale mirror square of a very beautiful view. At a distance of three kilometers from the city, which bears the same name, there is a cemetery, which was the last stop for a large number of steam locomotives that in the old days served as Vehicle intended for the transportation of various minerals (they were mined on the territory of local mines).

The saline surface is a completely optimal alternative to the expanses of the ocean in terms of such important aspects as checking and adjusting the operation of tools designed to carry out the sounding process using satellites that are in earth orbit. The territory of the lake is occupied by entire islands, the main flora of which are cacti. This spectacle is incredibly controversial, but at the same time so amazing that it will definitely need to be captured with a camera.

Second place - Cinque Terre

A place called the Cinque Terre is considered the most beautiful national park in Italy, which located in the eastern part of the Riviera. Such beautiful place like the Cinque Terre is covered with the spirit of the Middle Ages in Italy. The territory is occupied by about five small villages, architectural features which are presented in the form of defensive buildings erected back in those days when pirate raids on this area were often made. A reliable level of land protection was provided thanks to the rocky coastline, which combines unforgettable beauty and serious danger at the same time.

Third place - Pamukkale

Now, perhaps, it is worth turning to the southwestern part of Turkey, which is characterized by a unique and a magnificent geological phenomenon - calcareous tuff, or rather a rocky area created on the basis of this natural material. This place is the main source of streams that fall down massive stone steps. Many waterfalls and unique pools are formed here, characterized by an unusual origin. Cotton Castle - this is the poetic name given to the amazing landscape by the inhabitants themselves. Thanks to the thermal springs and natural terraces of Pamukkale, located at the foot of the mountains, an excellent view is created, which attracts many tourists to this area every year. This picture appears to be a well of water saturated with a large amount of calcium, against the general background of an excellent landscape, which is represented by white tones.

Fourth place - Yunnan Rice Terraces

Another just amazing beautiful place on the planet is the territory of rice fields, which is located in China. This area is located in the mountainous regions of the province called Yunnan. At the terraces, the degree of extension is characterized by several tens of kilometers, exactly repeating the bend of the general relief. The general uniqueness of this area lies in the basic nature of the ecological type system, which was formed in an independent way. Rice is planted when February comes, because during this period the soil is renewed thanks to the mountain mines. The beginning of the autumn period is considered the time when the inhabitants begin to harvest. The tourism season begins by the end of autumn, continuing until spring. It is during this time period that natural terraces become the main object of attention of tourists, striking, first of all, with a mirror type of surface that reflects the rays of the sun, while creating a beautiful color spectrum.

Fifth place - the beauty of the blue hole in Belize

The central part of the atoll (one of the many objects related to the coral barrier reef off the coast of Belize) is presented the most beautiful scenery- a blue hole, which appears as a cave, disappearing somewhere in the depths. A natural phenomenon natural character is very common, but it is this abyss that has especially incredible dimensions (the depth level is about one hundred and twenty meters, and the cave is about three hundred meters in diameter). Extreme divers are especially attracted to given place. A deep-sea cave can become a real paradise for people who have turned diving into a real meaning of life. Jacques Yves Cousteau conducted extensive research here, which brought great popularity to this area in the future.

Sixth place - beautiful views of the Arizona wave

In the border area separating the states of Arizona and Utah, there is a plateau on which there are sand rocks of incredibly beautiful shape, which are called waves, because of the funny uneven shapes and colors with a high degree of saturation. In order to make my way to this amazing place professional photographers have to go through a difficult path: a flat road in such an area is not expected. The creation of a peculiar structure of a magnificent landscape took place over a long period of time through the transformation of dunes from sand into rocks of a solid type.

Seventh place - features of Jiuzhaigou National Park

In the southeast of China, there is the territory of Sichuan province, which attracts a huge number of tourists. And all thanks to the beautiful Jiuzhaigou Nature Reserve, which occupies the server of the region. It represents a unique natural object under the strictest protection. Waterfalls and lakes in large numbers are hidden from curious tourists by the mountain ranges of Tibet. These waters are called colored because they carry a special composition.

Not every person is able to get to this reserve, however, not so long ago mountainous area acquired an airport that provides an opportunity to get to this area straight from the territory of Shanghai. In order for tourists to feel maximum comfort in this area, the paths in the mountains were ennobled by local workers.
