Holidays in Vietnam, tourist description of Vietnam. Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other destinations. What a tourist needs to know before traveling to Vietnam

Vietnam is one of the oldest countries in Asia. The state is located in the eastern part of the Indochina Peninsula. Vietnam has a favorable geographical position: A narrow strip of the country's territory extends from north to south along the coast of Bakbo Bay and the South China Sea. Vietnam's neighbors are Laos and Cambodia in the west, China in the north.

The first mentions of Vietnam date back to the second millennium BC. But legends say that the Vietnamese are the descendants of the dragon emperor Lac Long and the fairy bird Au Co, who fell in love with each other with unearthly love. To this day, Vietnam has preserved its original culture with ancient temples and thousand-year-old traditions. At the same time, many things in this country may seem painfully familiar to Russian tourists - from red flags to pioneers in ties. True, socialism does not prevent Vietnam from being a very attractive tourist destination. Amazing nature, magnificent beaches, a rich excursion program, modern comfortable hotels and amazing friendliness towards travelers from Russia - not every country can boast of such a set of tourist advantages, but Vietnam has it all.

Climate and weather

A pleasant feature of Vietnam’s climate is that at any time of the year you can find a place in the country where the weather will be truly resort-like.

The best place to relax in the south of Vietnam from December to April. At this time, the weather here is mild and pleasant without the aggressive sun. The air temperature varies from +21 °C in January to + 30 °C in April. Rain season begins in May and lasts almost until October: sudden heavy rains Happens almost every day, but does not last more than 15-20 minutes.

It is optimal to go to the central part of the country in March - June. The fact is that from July to November there are frequent typhoons, rains and fogs, and in the winter months the sea is very choppy. But in spring the weather is comfortable (on average +26 °C) and there is a lot of sun.

The north of Vietnam has humid, hot summers and cool winters (+15 °C). Frosts in winter occur only in the mountains. The rainy season runs from May to October, so the ideal time to visit the northern regions of the country is April-May and October-November, when there is almost no rainfall and the sea water is warm.

Nature

The landscape of Vietnam is very picturesque. It is a country of mountain ranges and hills that give way to spacious plains with lush vegetation. The most high mountain in Vietnam - Fansipan(3145 meters). The river delta is an amazingly beautiful place Mekong And Hongha. The Vietnamese believe that this is where all life on earth originated.

Vietnam is famous for its forests - fragrant evergreen jungles. Valuable trees grow here: sandalwood, brown lim tree, bamboo, ironwood and mahogany. From useful plants special place Cardamom, anise, cinnamon and, of course, ginseng occupy.

One cannot help but admire the wildlife of Vietnam. Here you can find elephants and rhinoceroses, wild cats and leopards, tigers, bears, antelopes, wild bulls and deer. The jungle is home to numerous subspecies of monkeys, lemurs, and panthers. The country is home to about 400 species of birds and many species of reptiles. Every year in Vietnam, scientists discover new subspecies of animals, fish and birds, and even, what is especially interesting, animals that were considered extinct long ago.

Attractions

There is a lot to see in Vietnam. Worthy of admiration and temple complexes ancient civilizations, and beautiful national parks, and even architectural monuments of the socialist era. It’s interesting to visit not only the capital of Vietnam Hanoi, but also in Ho Chi Minh City and in the city-museum Hoi An, at resorts Dalat, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Phan Thiet.

The ancient capitals of Vietnam deserve special attention. This is, first of all, a city Hue on the shore Fragrant River where they were restored imperial palaces and other architectural structures. Travelers are also attracted by such former capitals as Koloa, Meling, Hoyles. In total, there are 12 ancient capitals in Vietnam, each of which has interesting story and many interesting sights.

Modern capital of the country Hanoi, or Thang Long(“the city of the soaring dragon”), is famous not only for the historical vicissitudes of the struggle for independence. Such people also brought glory to the city architectural masterpieces, How Temple of the Turtle, which is located in the middle of the lake Hoan Kiem(“lake of the returned sword”), and the pagoda Chua Mot Cat("One Pillar Pagoda"), the original of which was built in 1049. Tourists from all over the world are eager to see Hanoi Mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh- one of four mausoleums in the world where visitors are allowed access. The mausoleum is very similar to the Moscow one, but the Vietnamese structure is much grander.

There are many in Vietnam scenic spots, but the real delight of travelers is the pearl of Vietnamese nature - the bay Ha Long(“Landing Dragon Bay”), which many call the eighth wonder of the world. On the crystal clear surface of the sea there are about 1,600 islands of the most incredible shapes: a stone frog, an old fisherman, a vase for incense sticks. On the rocky islands there are beautiful caves with stalactites and stalagmites.

Nutrition

On post-Soviet space Vietnamese cuisine gained a dubious reputation due to the notorious “aroma” of fried herring that permeated the dormitories where Vietnamese students lived. Meanwhile, in reality the Vietnamese culinary traditions provide the preparation of fresh and healthy food, although it may seem unusual in taste to a European. The most important gastronomic difference between Vietnam and other Asian countries is that the products here are not subject to long-term heat treatment, and in addition, little fat is used in the cooking process.

The basis of Vietnamese cuisine is rice (“ com"), noodles (" mi") and a variety of seafood. In general, the Vietnamese are omnivores in their culinary preferences, so here you can try fried grasshoppers, monkey brains, and bird’s nest soup. But still more familiar to a Russian traveler will be such national dishes as eel soup, rice noodle pancakes, green soup “pho”, boiled beef with bamboo shoots and cinnamon “ bo ho ku».

There are many restaurants in Vietnam where you can enjoy Chinese, Indian, Thai and European cuisine. An important plus for tourists is that in Vietnam you can expect relatively low food costs. In large cities, for $8-10 you can have a hearty dinner in a restaurant (along with coffee and beer), and during the day it’s not difficult to find a place where a hearty lunch costs $4-5.

Accommodation

In Vietnam, there is no official system for assessing the level of service in hotels. But for convenience, the European five-star hotel classification system is still used, however, you need to understand that the declared category does not always objectively correspond to the real state of affairs. For example, not every 4-star hotel has a restaurant, and instead of air conditioning, there is often only a fan in the room. However, there is no need to worry, as hotels from global hotel operators, of which there are many in Vietnam, meet generally accepted service standards.

Every year more and more comfortable hotels are built in the country. However, demand often exceeds supply, although there are more than 200 hotels in the 3-5* categories in Vietnam. Breakfast, by the way, is not always included in the price.

In the south of Vietnam - at resorts Phan Thiet, Da Lat, Nha Trang- the most popular hotels and the highest cost of living. There are also high-quality tourist complexes, and family half boards, and guest houses with a basic set of services. You can save on accommodation by coming here in the off-season - in July and August.

There are not many 4-5* hotels in the central part of Vietnam and the north of the country. The exception is cities Hanoi And Ho Chi Minh City, where the hotel base boasts luxury hotels.

If you are traveling independently and do not consider luxury accommodation a priority, you can find a budget hotel, guest house or private apartment in any major city. If you want to stay in a luxury hotel, we recommend making advance reservations.

Entertainment and relaxation

Vietnam invariably delights its guests with a variety of entertainment: from water sports to nightclubs and casinos. In this country you can ride elephants, soak up beautiful beaches, visit crocodile farms, go sea fishing and go diving. A real highlight of the entertainment is going to partisan camps. Cu Chi Tunnels.

If you are lucky enough to attend one of the colorful Vietnamese festivals and holidays, the impressions will last for a long time. In Ho Chi Minh City you can visit the " Southern Fruit Festival", in Da Nang - on fireworks festival, in Nha Trang they arrange maritime festival, and bullfights take place in Doshon.

In Vietnam, diving is very affordable, and the level of dive organization is decent. The country has many interesting dive sites. The best dive sites are considered Hoi An, Nha Trang Phu Quoc And Con Dao. There you can see corals, cuttlefish, octopuses, barracudas, clams, moray eels, squids and even puffer fish and manta rays. And diving at the archipelago Con Dao, you can meet dugongs (sea cows) and large green turtles.

The beaches of Vietnam are snow-white sand and clear water. No wonder the central and southern regions countries are called " Vietnamese Hawaii" Here are the best in South-East Asia beaches.

Purchases

Vietnam has an incredibly wide range of souvenirs and gifts. At the same time, prices are the most affordable in the region. Trade flourishes both in small souvenir shops and in modern shopping centers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The top shopping list in Vietnam should include items made from natural silk, crafts made from rare wood, gold and silver jewelry, items made from stone, metal and bone. We advise you to focus on specialized stores if you want to purchase high-quality silk, silver, and pearls. Ceramics are best bought in the suburbs of Hanoi Bat Chang, where there are many workshops producing porcelain dishes. And the best pearls are bought on the island Phu Quoc. Be sure to also pay attention to green tea and coffee.

As a rule, shops are open daily from 07:30 to 17:30, but many are open until late in the evening.

In government stores, prices are fixed, but in private shops and markets it is recommended to bargain, even if you see a price tag - know that this is only a starting point for bargaining.

Currency can be exchanged at a bank, hotel or exchange office. The first option is the most profitable, but banks are open for a limited time. Under no circumstances agree to offers of profitable currency exchange from passers-by - there is a risk of becoming a victim of scammers.

Plastic cards MasterCard, Visa, American Express And JCB You can pay in all big and small cities where there are tourists. But in distant places tourist areas It's better to take cash with you.

Transport

It is convenient to travel between cities in Vietnam by bus. There are two varieties: Big Bus(with air conditioning and seat according to ticket) and Mini Bus(no air conditioning and fixed seat).

Water transport functions well. Thousands of private boats, coasters and boats cruise along the coast and lakes. The cost of the trip in most cases is negotiable and agreed with the captain of the ship.

The most convenient way to get around in cities is by taxi, motorcycle and pedicabs. Although bus transport is present, it operates irregularly, and the confusing system of stops is not very attractive to travelers. But the fare is only about $0.1.

Traveling by taxi is, of course, more expensive, but they are always available and are paid strictly according to the meter readings. Companies such as: Vina(yellow cars) and Mai Linh(green cars): taxi salons are always kept clean and air conditioned. Taxi fares are the same for the capital and the province; the price is approximately $0.6 per kilometer.

Remember that payment for travel on bicycles and auto-rickshaws must be agreed in advance. Don't be afraid to bargain, otherwise the price will be significantly higher. In general, the reward for 15 minutes of travel should not exceed $1.

Connection

You can call anywhere in the world from a hotel, internet cafe, post office or mobile phone. mobile connection, by the way, is absolutely accessible. You just need to purchase a SIM card from one of the local operators ( Viettel, Vinaphone, Mobifone). You can top up your account using prepaid cards (sold at any kiosk, store or post office). Keep in mind that calling from a hotel is several times more expensive than calling from a mobile phone.

Internet access services in the country are provided by the company " Internet Vietnam" Network access is available in large hotels, in Internet cafes and post offices. Prices for services are quite affordable and, as a rule, do not exceed $0.5.

Safety

Vietnam is quite safe to travel, even if you are moving around the country on your own. There is no religious fanaticism or racial prejudice here; Vietnam is one of the ten most safe places Eurasia.

The main problem facing tourists here is petty theft. Therefore, you should carefully monitor your personal belongings, especially in crowded places. Do not carry large sums of money with you. It is better to leave valuables in the hotel safe. Avoid riding rickshaws after dark.

A separate “headache” is intrusiveness local residents, who are constantly trying to sell something, stopping tourists right in their tracks. Do not give in to persuasion under any circumstances - not only will you receive a low-quality product at an inflated price, but in place of one, a whole crowd of new “sellers” will immediately appear. In addition, you can run into real scammers.

From a health point of view, maintain good personal hygiene and do not buy food from street stalls. We recommend drinking only bottled water.

There is no need to get vaccinated before traveling to Vietnam - there are no raging infections in the country.

Business climate

Just a couple of decades ago, the prospect of starting a business in Vietnam would hardly have seemed reasonable to a Russian entrepreneur. But times are changing, and these days Vietnam is beginning to attract foreign investors.

Although Vietnam is a country with a market socialist economy, the state practically does not interfere in the affairs of enterprises of various forms of ownership, unless these are strategic industries. Enterprises with 100% foreign capital are already allowed.

Positive factors for opening a business in Vietnam include the stability of the political situation, cheap labor and a warm climate that does not require additional costs for heating premises. On the other hand, transporting goods to, say, Russia is not very cheap.

Therefore, most often foreign investors invest money not in production, but in the construction of tourist facilities, restaurants, cafes, and entertainment.

In general, opening a business in Vietnam is not very easy. In terms of the complexity of obtaining licenses and the simplicity of the procedure for opening a company, Vietnam ranks 99th in the world. But for a foreigner, taking into account the assistance local authorities foreign investments, the process may not be very painful. However, you should not expect easy and quick profits. Patience is the main thing you need to stock up on when starting a business in Vietnam, according to experienced investors.

Real estate

Vietnam, as a country with a dynamically developing economy and tourist attractiveness, brings to world stage and your real estate market. But for foreigners, the laws are such that they can only purchase apartments here. In this case, the following conditions must be met: marriage with a Vietnamese citizen, permanent residence in the country, investments in the Vietnamese economy. The purchased apartment can only be used for the owner’s residence, that is, it cannot be rented out. Let us add that an apartment can be purchased for a period of 50 years, after which time it will have to be sold or donated.

Therefore, investments are considered optimal not in private housing, but in construction commercial real estate in the tourism sector. The fact is that now there is a demand for comfortable hotel complexes in Vietnam exceeds supply. Until the situation changes, such investments promise high returns in the near future.

When planning a trip to Vietnam, remember customs regulations. There are no restrictions on the import of foreign currency, but amounts over $3,000 must be declared: only what has been declared is allowed to be exported. It is prohibited to export national currency.

You can import 400 cigarettes or 0.5 kg of tobacco, 3 kg of coffee, 1.5 liters of strong alcohol or 2 liters of low-alcohol drinks, as well as 5 kg of tea. All equipment must be declared, otherwise it cannot be exported without paying customs duties. Be sure to pay attention to the list of items prohibited for import into the country: firearms, explosives, pornography, as well as drugs and drug-containing medications without a doctor’s prescription. The last point is very serious, since violation of the ban is punishable by up to death penalty! In addition, you cannot export antiques, jewelry and art objects without permits.

Before entering a Buddhist temple, do not forget to leave your shoes outside the threshold and do not turn your back to the temple when leaving it. Photographing temples and local residents is only possible with permission, which usually requires a fee.

There will be no problems with communication and the Internet in Vietnam; in this regard, everything here is created for clients: Thais, study, why do you need my passport when buying a SIM card! Which of the three major operators cellular communications It doesn’t matter at all what to choose - the tariffs and conditions are absolutely the same. You can buy a SIM card even in small shops, and you don’t need any documents for this. The quality of communication is good almost everywhere, with the exception of remote areas.

Attractive features of Vietnamese cellular communications:
no internal roaming, tariffs are the same throughout the country;
low rates for international calls, they are slightly higher than for domestic calls;
replenishment of the balance using a special card, which can be purchased in the same place as the SIM card (there is a code written on the card that is entered into the phone, accessible instructions are on the back side);
good quality Internet, prices for it among operators are also almost the same.

Mobile Internet is quite capable of competing with hotel Wi-Fi and even winning against it. It is more profitable to buy traffic packages. The Internet speed is quite decent, but, of course, it cannot be compared with the Russian one. Wi-Fi is available in the vast majority of hotels and guesthouses, as well as in more or less large cafes and restaurants.
Bottom line: Vietnam has some of the bestin Southeast Asia, conditions for Internet and mobile communication services.

Language and communication

Vietnamese is also difficult to understand, like most Asian languages. At least for Europeans. A big plus is the presence of an alphabet based on the Latin alphabet. That is, these are not hieroglyphs or other elegant script; the words can at least be roughly read. In my impression, there are a lot of short words that add up to long phrases. The Vietnamese speak abruptly but expressively. There are also all sorts of icons above the words, they are important - they indicate the tonality.

HelloXin chàoXin Chao

Kom tam kom - rice, the basis of the kitchen, kom tam - this is the simplest and cheapest dish, rice with several types of pork and vegetables, instead of pork (tấm), you can order any types of meat with rice:
Ga - chicken
Vit - duck
Bo - beef
Ka - fishTom - shrimp

Rice with several fillings is a traditional main course.

At least they know English in resort areas, but the pronunciation of the simplest words sometimes changes so much that it is difficult to identify them. However, in Nha Trang and Mui Ne, many middle-aged citizens can speak Russian perfectly well.

In general, the Vietnamese language has six tones; it is unlikely that you will be able to reproduce many words correctly the first or even the hundredth time. Therefore, I recommend using translators; now this is very easy to do using phones and other gadgets. If the translation is inaccurate, pictures from the Internet, gestures and facial expressions will help.

Features of mentality

Compared to other Southeast Asians, Vietnamese may seem more gloomy, focused, and rational. And it is true. Of course, many smile and show cordiality, and in the tourism industry this is generally the norm. But it’s still difficult to call Vietnam a country of smiles. Another feature: the Vietnamese are in no hurry and have a fairly democratic attitude towards obligations: “tomorrow” can mean “tomorrow, but not exactly”, “most likely the day after tomorrow”, etc. However, the average traveler is unlikely to encounter this.

In general, the Vietnamese are friendly, but a little shy when communicating with foreigners. But in everyday life they can be very noisy, especially children. They often live in large families, in the same house where they conduct business, the latter most often being a store, workshop, etc.

A foreigner is, first of all, a source of income, it’s like that everywhere in tourist places, nothing can be done about it. Vietnam does not show anything extraordinary here. Yes, sellers can inflate prices on the market, this is not uncommon, they round the numbers in the right direction, sometimes they are simply mistaken. However, given the general low level of prices, such a burden does not seriously affect the travel budget, because the change of one or two thousand dong will not make a difference. There are also cases of deliberate global inflation of prices (2-3 times), which is a real fraud. The latter, by the way, is found almost everywhere, so you need to be careful when making calculations.

Most Vietnamese people believe in spirits and honor their ancestors. But the operating temples are few in number, and no particular zeal has been noticed in religious services and celebrations. But religious tolerance is at the level: locals equally respect both Catholic cathedrals and Chinese temples. One of the main components of the spiritual life of the Vietnamese is the cult of ancestors. Every home has a special memorial - a home altar with photographs, appearance reminiscent of a Thai spirit house, on which fresh fruits, rice, and other foods are placed. Under no circumstances should food be touched or taken; this is considered a severe insult.

Shopping. What should you bring?

Vietnam produces many products itself, without relying on rich neighbors, including cosmetics and medications, clothing and shoes. Therefore, from here it is quite possible to bring authentic high-quality products and things, that is, Vietnamese, and not Chinese souvenirs.

The first thing I will mention is the delicious coffee, which has been mentioned more than once. Coffee pots are also worth bringing, they are very convenient. However, there is one feature that needs to be paid attention to Special attention. The cunning Vietnamese, realizing the demand of foreigners, put moussaka on all packs of coffee, this is the beast that produces Luwak coffee. The animal is very similar to an ordinary marten. However, natural luwak is very expensive, and what is sold under its guise, costing 10,000 VND per 100 grams, is ordinary Arabica.

Of course, exotic fruits should not be ignored either. You can ask the sellers for special baskets so that the fruits do not get crushed on the road, and they will select the appropriate fruits.

Today, branches of the largest European clothing and footwear brands are located in Vietnam. Prices for goods are usually lower than in Russia. However, to get a truly high-quality item, it is better to contact specialized stores.

Medicines and cosmetics are popular among tourists. Particularly famous are ointments and balms (“the asterisk” is generally used here as a universal remedy), and among cosmetic products - coconut oil and masks. Some have a whitening element added, usually this is indicated right on the label.

Local kitchen. What to try?

Vietnamese cuisine delights with unusual combinations and exotic flavors. What’s especially nice is that you can adjust the spiciness yourself; there is a special plate with peppers and sliced lime on the table. That is, initially the dishes themselves are not spicy.

Visitors are also served a large plate of greens and free green tea. The Vietnamese themselves love coffee very much and, I must admit, it is exceptionally tasty here. Usually there is a set of sauces on the table. Be careful not to confuse soy sauce with fish sauce. The latter can be identified by the fish on the bottle label; it has a specific taste that not everyone will like.

National dishes.

Fo. This is a soup made with rich meat broth. Real pho takes several hours to cook. The “filling” of this soup is noodles and meat, as well as soybean sprouts, which are indispensable in Vietnam. The soup is prepared before serving: all other ingredients are added to the finished broth. The visitor himself adds lime and herbs to taste, as well as fish sauce if desired; it is quite appropriate in the soup and reveals some subtle notes of taste. The most famous beef pho is pho bo. But there is also pho with chicken - pho ga, with fish, shrimp or squid. The noodles, by the way, are rice. After all, rice is the head of everything.

Banh mi. The king of street food, which in Vietnam is generally not very diverse. The baguettes inherited from the French colonists, which are consumed here, by the way, in huge quantities, are cut in half, smeared with sauce, put in meat and vegetables with herbs, and sometimes an omelette. You can also ask for a vegetarian banh mi, without meat.

Ban xiao. These unusual pancakes can also be found on street stalls. The dough for them is made from eggs with a little flour added. Essentially, it's an omelette with some extra ingredients. Pancakes are baked in small roasting pans over coals in round pans. When the ban xiao is turned over, the filling is placed inside: shrimp, meat, bean sprouts, and folded into an envelope shape. However, there are many variations of this dish. The pancakes always come with sauce and herbs.

Lau soup. This is a hot pot that has become quite well known. The Vietnamese very accurately translate this phrase into Russian as a hot pot. The already familiar brazier with smoldering coals is served on the table, and a pot of ready-made broth is placed on top. Then you can prepare the dish yourself, adding noodles, mushrooms, seafood, etc. In Vietnam, cafes for open air, where they only serve hotpot. Some offer only one type of meat; information about the chosen specialization can be determined by the sign with an image of the animal on it.

Ka fe. Coffee. Yes, drinking coffee in Vietnam is a whole ceremony, no worse than a tea room in China. The main feature is the use of unusual exclusive coffee pots. Believe me, I have never seen anything like this anywhere else. They are installed on a mug or glass and are a small container with a perforated bottom. Coffee is poured into the container and filled with water, the liquid seeps through the bottom into the mug, it’s even pleasant to watch this, and even more so to drink. The drink is most often served with the addition of condensed milk for sweetness.

Holidays

There are not many public holidays in Vietnam, and they are not celebrated very actively. Independence Day, May Day, Victory Day pass almost unnoticed.

The only exception, but what an exception! — New Year according to the lunisolar calendar - Tet. In terms of dates, it roughly coincides with the Chinese New Year.

This is truly a global celebration. Tet falls at the end of January and beginning of February (between the 20th of these months) and is celebrated for up to a week. Streets and houses are decorated with flowers and fruits, special dishes are prepared, and gifts are given. Throughout the country, in large cities, carnival processions, fairs and special rituals associated with the cult of ancestors are held.
Throughout the entire holiday week during the Tet period, it is impossible to catch the Vietnamese at work; all institutions, and often even shops, are closed . The resorts are crowded. Although most sellers raise prices, discounts are also possible on Tet; they say that you can visit Ha Long Bay for free, but you will have to book accommodation much in advance.

Safety

In general, Vietnam is safe; according to statistics, serious crimes occur here very rarely. But petty robberies are the scourge of the big cities of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. You need to watch your things and bags very carefully; they can be snatched from your hands or from your shoulders by bikers passing by. It is better not to take out phones and money demonstratively and keep them under constant control, hiding them in places inaccessible to thieves. However, thefts also happen at resorts, so valuables should be stored in the hotel safe.

A large number of incidents in Lately associated with riding bikes. There is one peculiarity here: the police can be very invisible in Vietnam, however, in the event of an incident, they appear immediately. This, of course, is trivial, but in order to ensure safety, all means are good, therefore: follow the rules traffic, be careful on the road, don’t drive, don’t drive drunk. The Vietnamese themselves may not follow traffic rulesIt’s generally difficult here, but what is allowed to a local is prohibited to a stranger. Dedicated to those who are annoyed by constant beeping signals on the road: “It’s better this way than running into a bus rushing at all speeds!”

1. Tourists often complain about the poor state of public transport in Vietnam. I can advise you not to neglect taxis, in some areas it is very affordable way movement. Keep an eye on the counter!
When purchasing bus tickets, it is better to contact directly the offices of carrier companies, for example, Futa, Han cafe, and not to tourist centers, where markups are sometimes 100%. I’ll give you an approximate price guide: a ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne costs 130,000 VND, from Ho Chi Minh City to Dalat - 220,000 VND, from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang - 215,000 VND.

2. Vietnamese get up and go to bed very early, at 5-6 am and 9-10 pm respectively. It is better to plan all business interactions with them for the first half of the day. It should also be taken into account that in most of the country, with the exception of Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Nha Trang, all streets die out at 22-00. Shops and cafes are closing, buses are not running. Of course, there are 24-hour establishments, but there are not many of them. And in large cities, only the central areas have nightlife.

3. Don’t be afraid to try signature national dishes in authentic cafes; they are the most delicious and cheapest here. It’s the same with seafood, in a cafe near fishing village or at the market they will definitely be cheaper and fresher than in a posh restaurant or bokeh (specialty seafood restaurants). Of course, you must first visually determine the level of service and hygiene. By the way, a well-known feature - the habit of throwing garbage from the table onto the floor, which everyone who has been in Vietnam notes, is due precisely to a specific sense of hygiene. Vietnamese people find it more acceptable to sweep away trash than to touch it with their hands.

Vietnam is a country full of pleasant surprises that can surprise even experienced travelers. Picturesque nature, ancient culture, warm sea - three pillars on which Vietnam’s popularity among tourists lies. But there are other bonuses. Do you want cheap seafood? Go to Da Nang, the cafes right next to the beach are full of seafood delicacies for reasonable prices. 100 thousand for a huge plate of mussels, I think it's pennies! Do you want coolness, tired of the sun? Go to Dalat. Do you want to ride the waves? Mui Ne is already preparing surf for you.

Do you want to go to Vietnam? Pack your suitcase and... Let's go!

Tourism in Vietnam

Where to stay

Vietnam is becoming increasingly popular among tourists all over the world. This is what has recently given rise to the emergence of an increasing number of hotels in the country. There is no official grading of hotels in this country, however, for greater convenience, in Vietnam they use the generally accepted five-star system.

If you prefer high service and comfort, stay in one of the hotels of global chains, since in other hotels the declared service does not always correspond to the real one. In the south of the country you can find both small family hotels with good service and upscale hotels. It is worth booking a room in advance, as there is a large influx of tourists during the season. But during the rainy season, you will not only quickly find a free room, but also the cost of living will be much lower.

Central and northern Vietnam is not so touristically developed, however, here you can also find small cottages, bungalows or stay in one of the guest houses. Breakfast, as a rule, is not included in the price, but numerous cafes and restaurants around the hotels will help solve the problem of food.

It is worth considering that so-called guest houses or hotels in small towns are suitable more topics who love spartan living conditions and complete immersion in the traditional life of the country. So, here you will be greeted by a mattress on the floor instead of a bed, curtains in the room as a dividing partition from neighbors, and possible interruptions in water and electricity. However, the local flavor and hospitality of the Vietnamese will more than pay for all the inconveniences.

If you decide to rent your own accommodation on the spot, in any of the towns you can find budget hotels or rent a room from private owners. Budget hotels offer quite acceptable service at a low cost.

Over the centuries, Vietnamese cuisine has been influenced by Chinese and Indian cuisines, but still retains its unique blend of harmonious flavors and colors. ...

You can safely order drinks with ice in major cities and hotels in Saigon, Hanoi, Nha Trang, Da Nang, because the ice is prepared in accordance with hygienic standards. Vietnam is among the top ten safe countries Eurasia. You should only be wary of petty thieves and the importunity of merchants.

Questions and feedback about Vietnam

Hue - Questions and Answers

Question answer

Hello. Holidays in Vietnam are a great option! If Vietnam suddenly magically found itself closer to Central Russia (say, somewhere in the vicinity of), the tourist flow to this country would, without a doubt, increase many times over. Indeed, among the tangible disadvantages of this direction is only a long and, therefore, expensive flight.

Almost everything else is a complete plus: an unusual and exciting “excursion”, beautiful beaches with ample opportunities for active rest, extensive and high-quality hotel base. And with all this - low prices in hotels, restaurants, on excursions and generally everywhere.

Despite all this, Vietnam has thoroughly spoiled the image of itself with creepy consumer goods markets with bales of all kinds of rubbish, talkative inhabitants and the aromas of fried herring. Perhaps many today will wrinkle their noses when they hear an offer to go there: “I’ve seen enough of this here.”

Meanwhile, the real Vietnam is ancient temple complexes of unknown civilizations and natural beauty national parks, healthy and tasty food(dietary rice and delicious fresh seafood), the cheapest diving in the world (coupled with an abundance of underwater inhabitants) and resorts with a distinct European flair: a former French colony, after all.

In addition, here there is an opportunity to have plenty of nostalgia for the recent social past: the flag is almost like our former one, and the pioneers in ties, and even the leader in the mausoleum.

The capital is Hanoi. Interesting cities: Ho Chi Minh City, Hue; popular resorts: Phan Thiet, Phu Quoc, .

About a third of the country is located at a level above 500 m above the sea, so the climate there is subtropical, and in areas above 2000 m it is even temperate. From April-May to October, the southeast monsoons bring warm and humid weather to the country - except in areas protected by mountains.

In the south of Vietnam (from Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet) two seasons can be distinguished - wet and dry. The wet season traditionally lasts from May to November, with the rainiest months being June–August. The dry season usually starts in December and ends in April. For European tourists this is the most favorable time. The “velvet” months in the south of Vietnam are January and February: soft sun, refreshing sea water. From the end of February to May there are hot days without rain.

Climate of central Vietnam (from the resort of Nha Trang to the ancient capital of Hue): from February to August - clear, rain is rare, temperature +30...+35 °C. In mid-December there are heavy rains, in October - November typhoons are possible in the area of Da Nang and Hue, temperatures are +20...+28 °C.

In the north of the country (from Hanoi to seaside resort Halong) winter and summer seasons are more clearly defined than in the south. Winter, cool and wet, lasts from November to February, with constant drizzling rain "fung" in February and March. The summer season begins abruptly in May: high humidity, temperatures up to +40 °C.

Vietnam customs

The import of foreign currency is not limited, but amounts over 3,000 USD must be declared: export of currency from the country is allowed only within the amount declared upon entry. Export national currency prohibited.

You can import duty free 400 cigarettes or 100 cigars or 500 g of tobacco, 1.5 liters of strong alcoholic drinks or 2 liters of alcoholic drinks with a strength of up to 22°, 5 kg of tea, 3 kg of coffee, as well as other goods with a total value of no more than VND 5 million.

Household and computer equipment must be declared: all undeclared equipment will be allowed for export only if customs duties are paid or there is a receipt confirming its purchase in the country.

The export of art and antiques, jewelry and handicrafts without the appropriate permits is prohibited.

Transport

In Vietnam, which stretches from north to south, to travel between distant cities, it is best to use domestic flights with Vietnam Airlines or Jetstar Pacific. Most often, planes fly between two megacities - Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (up to 10 flights per day), but other large cities are not deprived of regular flights.

Vietnamese trains are comfortable and run on schedule. The main route, Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City, will last 30 hours. Purchase tickets It is recommended at least 3 days before the travel date directly at the station ticket office (local travel companies can easily cheat on the cost of the ticket and class of carriage).

It makes sense to use intercity buses for relatively short trips: constant speed limits on highways result in unreasonably long journeys. On the other hand, the prices for bus trips are negligible: you can get from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City for only 450,000 VND.

When traveling at night, you should be very careful with your luggage: cases of theft are not uncommon (petty thieves are everywhere). It is better to put away players and other gadgets at the first sign of drowsiness.

Urban transport is well developed only in large capital cities: these are taxis, various motorcycle and pedicabs (“cyclo” or “cyclo”). Taxi fares do not need to be negotiated in advance: all cars have a meter that indicates the fare, and taxi drivers usually know some English. Taxi fare: VND 5,500-9,500 per kilometer plus VND 15,800-23,700 per landing.

Motorcycle and pedicabs will be happy with VND 15,800 for a 15-minute ride, but the amount of payment should be agreed upon in advance and bargaining is simply necessary in this case. Traffic on the roads is poorly regulated, so traffic jams in big cities are a common occurrence.

For diving enthusiasts

Diving in Vietnam is one of the cheapest in the world. At the same time, it is really interesting and organized at a quite decent level. There are many interesting dive sites off the coast of Vietnam. The best in this regard are considered to be Nha Trang, Hoi An, and Con Dao Islands. Except great variety corals, there you can see all kinds of mollusks, cuttlefish, octopuses, squids, clown fish, moray eels, pufferfish, groupers, manta rays and barracudas.

The best time for diving is from October to April. Best season for diving in Nha Trang - February-October, and on Phu Quoc Island - from November to May. There are famous diving spots near Nha Trang: Muren Beach, Rainbow Coral Reef and many islands near the resort.

The Con Dao Archipelago National Reserve consists of 14 islands and is located 300 km from the coastline. There you can find very rare mammals - dugongs (sea cows), large green turtles and many endemics - animals and plants that cannot be found anywhere else.

Shopping and stores in Vietnam

Local shopping has two pleasant features: a wide selection of purchases and the most low prices in the region (unless, of course, you forget to bargain). Shops are open almost every day, seven days a week, from 7:30 until late in the evening. Many supermarkets in the capital and major cities are open 24 hours a day.

From Vietnam you can bring things made of lacquer, bamboo, mother-of-pearl, items made of silver, pearls, mahogany and ebony - including very beautiful cutlery and boxes.

Another category of successful purchases is clothing and accessories made of silk, linen and cotton. Even in Saigon you can find very high-quality and beautiful gold products - not exactly at bargain prices, but quite reasonable prices, as well as products made from pearls - mainly from artificially grown river pearls, less often - cultured sea pearls.

It is worth purchasing various spices, especially Fukuoka black pepper. Representatives of the fair sex are guaranteed to pay attention to the national costume “ao dai”, consisting of a tight-fitting long shirt-dress with slits and pants (they are usually sewn to order).

Wonderful exotic souvenirs literally cost pennies here, and beautiful silver items cost almost nothing. Travelers returning from Vietnam usually take out silver jewelry and dishes, products made from natural silk, linen and cotton, souvenirs made from mahogany and bamboo, lacquerware and ceramics from their suitcases.

Vietnamese cuisine and restaurants

Vietnamese cuisine, although “omnivorous” (down to fried grasshoppers in bags made of newspapers instead of seeds), is at the same time quite light and, despite its unusualness, healthy. The products here are not subjected to long-term heat treatment. The basis of the cuisine is rice, noodles and spices, a variety of seafood.

Many dishes are seasoned with “nuok-mam” sauce made from fermented (read: “fermented in its own juice”) fish - however, the taste and smell is not at all as terrible as it might seem. As for soups, you should try the light and tasty “pho”: rice noodles with lean beef or chicken.

The French, former colonialists, also made a mark in local cuisine, making baguettes cut in half with all sorts of fillings popular as a “snack”. Green tea is traditionally popular in the country, and local coffee is considered very decent.

And they produce good red and white wines.

In state hotels and restaurants, 5% “for services” is usually added to the bill. In private establishments, if you liked the food and service, you can leave a tip of 5-10%.

Legends and stories of Vietnam

There you are short excursion into the tangled history of the Vietnamese people. More than three thousand years BC, the dragon king Lac Long Quan ruled the lands of what is now Vietnam. Once, puzzled by the continuation of the family, he decided to ask the fairy bird Au Ko for his hand in marriage.

The beauty was not slow to accept the offer and, on time, gave birth... a bag in which one hundred eggs were found, and from each came one heir-progenitor of one hundred Vietnamese families.

Whether the lady hatched the offspring or placed the offspring in an incubator - history is silent, but since then every self-respecting Vietnamese speaks of himself as “the child of the dragon, the grandson of the gods.”

The end of the story is very modern: after some time the couple separated - Lac Long Quan chopped off half of their sons and went to sea with them, and Au Ko took the remaining fifty and went to live in the mountains.

How correctly our Lev Nikolaevich noted about happy and unhappy families!

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Vietnam

Vietnam is ready to delight guests from the north with a variety of diverse entertainment: from elephant riding, visits to snake restaurants with crocodile sanctuaries, national parks and fishing - to casinos and nightclubs.

The highlight excursion program The country is considered to be the guerrilla tunnels of Ku Chi, but besides them, there are more than enough attractions here.

Halong Bay National Park has some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet. Several thousand small limestone islets and cliffs rising from sea waters and having a bizarre shape, make you believe in the legend of this place. It says that the Ha Long Islands were created by a giant dragon that lived in the mountains. Bizarre cliffs and rocks are shaped like a turtle, camel, cat, dog's head or dragon.

Hanoi has Buddhist, medieval and recent communist sites, as well as natural beauty in abundance.

Da Nang has beautiful " Marble Mountains» Ngu Nan Son and pagodas with unique statues. In Phan Thiet - famous statue Reclining Buddha.

Vietnam hotels

In the major cities of Vietnam, the choice of hotels is very diverse - from mini-hotels to De Luxe establishments. Their service is, in general, at the average European level. Type of meals - breakfast (most) or half board, there is practically no all-in. Buffet extremely diverse.

All rooms from three to five stars are equipped with air conditioning, TV with satellite channels and a telephone; more expensive rooms also have bathrobes, a hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, safes and minibars.

Mains voltage 220 V, frequency 50 Hz. Plugs generally have flat connectors. Rooms in many hotels are equipped with universal sockets, to which plugs of almost any configuration will fit - and if the plug still does not fit, the hotel staff will find the necessary adapter.

Do you need a visa and who?

Exotic Vietnam is moderately loyal to Russian tourists: on the one hand, entry into the country is simplified almost to the maximum (a visa for up to 15 days for tourism purposes is not needed), on the other hand, a visa will still be required for a longer visit.

But even in this case there should not be any difficulties: a visa to Vietnam can be obtained without any unnecessary hassles directly at the border upon arrival. What’s nice is that there is no visa fee for Russian citizens. Well, if you don’t want to wait for a visa to be issued at the airport, you can get it in advance at the Vietnamese Embassy in Moscow.

A visa-free 15-day stay in Vietnam is possible no more than once every 30 days. If you plan to leave and return to Vietnam (for example, as part of a combined tour), you will need a visa to re-enter.

Thus, Russian citizens arriving in Vietnam have three options:

1. Visa on arrival

If your stay in Vietnam lasts more than 15 days, a visa can be obtained upon arrival at one of the international airports in Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi or Da Nang. To do this, at the “Visas upon arrival” counter in front of passport control you will need to present:
a foreign passport valid for at least six months at the end of the trip;
return tickets;
visa permission - confirmation letter (Approval Letter).

By the way, the confirmation letter is a document with a unique code issued by the Vietnamese Immigration Department. It’s not difficult to get it; the easiest way is to order it online on one of the specialized websites (the price ranges from 15 to 38 USD, depending on the type of visa and the speed of processing). A confirmation letter will be sent by email and must be printed and then presented at the border control point.

The time to obtain a visa at the airport is approximately half an hour to an hour; tourists from Russia are issued it free of charge.

2. Applying for a visa at the consulate

Vietnam is an attractive country, but only for lovers of Southeast Asia. Those who don’t like Thailand, for example (it turns out there are such people), are unlikely to like this country either.

Compared to its neighbors, Vietnam appears to be more socially equitable. There is no such appalling poverty, although the majority of the people live in poverty. The country is still considered socialist. I don’t know all the achievements of socialism, but children wear pioneer ties and joyful smiles. And the smile of a child, you see, speaks volumes.

Vietnam offers visitors a complete vacation. Tourists mainly combine beach accommodation (with all the attributes water activities) And educational excursions(natural, historical and folklore).

Vietnam is also attractive to Russians due to its low cost. You can eat very inexpensively and deliciously here. In addition, many manufacturers of the world's most famous brands have opened their factories and factories in Vietnam. Accordingly, the cost of these brands here is much lower than anywhere else.

The main cost when vacationing in Vietnam is on flights, so if you are lucky enough to find cheap tickets on a promotion, I advise you to buy them without hesitation. Holidays in Vietnam will not disappoint. This country will provide a warm sea, bright sun, Fresh air, lush nature, original culture, unusual food and great mood.

How much does a holiday in Mui Ne cost? January 2019.

tour cost

In January of this year we went on vacation to Vietnam for two weeks. Our tour was combined, i.e. We spent 10 days directly in Mui Ne, and the remaining four days in Nha Trang. The tour for three people cost 180 thousand rubles. The departure city was Blagoveshchensk (Amur Region), and the arrival airport was Cam Ranh.

During our vacation we visited three excursions, two of which were absolutely free. The first excursion is a sightseeing excursion, i.e. tourists are taken to different, so to speak, crazy shops, i.e. excellent quality of the product is guaranteed, but at the same time the prices of the product are “heavenly”. The second excursion was - White Dunes, in this round we also visited various shops or factories (for example, those producing jewelry made from real pearls), and of course the dunes themselves, where you could rent a jeep, the driver of which takes you for a ride and stops you in beautiful places for photographs (the rental is worth it, if I’m not mistaken , 300 thousand dong for an hour), you could also ride an ostrich there - 100 thousand dong. The third excursion is already paid - $50/person. The excursion is very interesting and exciting! I recommend it to everyone!!! In one day you will visit the “Mad House”, see the largest sitting golden Buddha, and also visit two parks, one of which is incredibly beautiful! (lunch is also included).

Food and products

I will inform you not only in rubles, but also in dongs. Breakfast was included in our hotel, so we always stayed at the hotel in the morning. Lunch for us, as a rule, consisted of products purchased at grocery stores. The prices, in my opinion, are a little higher than their actual value. For example, a pack of cookies cost around 35 to 70 thousand dong ~ 98 to 170 rubles, I think in any case it is possible to find something cheaper. For dinner we went to different cafes. In each place it came out to about 800 rubles (I don’t remember how much it is in dong). Dinner consisted of 3 people. If we talk about fruits, the minimum price for mango was 22 thousand dong ~ 62 rubles, pineapple 18 thousand ~ 50 rubles. From this we can conclude that it is most profitable to eat fruits.

Helpful information?

Impressions from a holiday in January

I think we chose a great time of the year to visit Vietnam, because before we booked the tour we had read a lot, not very much. positive feedback about the weather in winter. But we were lucky. Our entire stay in Mui Ne was accompanied by bright sunshine.

Family holiday

In fact, Mui Ne is a very friendly village in which there are good establishments, welcoming their visitors, which creates an excellent atmosphere for spending time with loved ones.

Recreation for the elderly

This resort is suitable for older people, because Mui Ne is quite quiet and peaceful, and this will perfectly help older people to think about their lives and take a break from the daily hustle and bustle in their hometown.

What to take with you on vacation?

I think this should not seem strange, since Mui Ne is a resort with an excellent sea, but I would advise taking a special sliver for the nose when swimming and diving, because the waves are very large and cover you completely, and the water actually gets into the nose, which creates an unpleasant feeling.

Where is the best place to stay?

We stayed at Vinh Suong Hotel ***. In general, we got a good room with a sea view, but we didn’t like the service a little, as sometimes they didn’t put toiletries in or didn’t clean the room at all, which caused a storm of negative emotions. But if you cross out all those troubles, then the hotel is good.

What to do at the resort?

We spent most of our vacation at sea or on the shore. Every evening we walked around Mui Ne looking for clothes or souvenirs.

The first excursion is the city of Dalat. This excursion designed for one day, during which you can view a lot interesting places, for example, “Crazy House” - unusual hotel, in which you feel like you are in a fairy-tale world.

The second is White Dunes. The main part of this excursion is the stay on the sands, which lasts only one hour, during which you can take a huge number of beautiful photos at sunset, ride a jeep, and also ride an ostrich if you wish.

Mui Ne is a village consisting of just one street, on which there is a huge number of shops, cafes, and hotels. Therefore, it is not worth choosing a specific store, because they are all similar to each other, since this is a kind of market. In Mui Ne we bought souvenirs (magnets, plates with landmarks, figurines), as well as clothes (dresses, thin capes from the sun, things for children), but what about sweets for relatives?

Where can I eat?

During our vacation, we chose restaurants that our guide recommended to us. Perhaps the two most famous establishments for a delicious dinner were “Chaikhana” and “Uzbechka”.

About the quality of food and service

Very nice staff, service is quite fast, but this may depend on the number of people in the establishment. We sometimes also visited cafes of Vietnamese people directly, where problems arose with misunderstanding, since they hardly know in English, which could cause difficulties. The food itself was very tasty, freshly prepared, I think there is no need to worry about its quality.

Pros of holidays in Mui Ne

The advantages definitely include peace and tranquility. In Mui Ne you are really able to forget about the bad moments in your life, because the atmosphere prevailing there does not allow you to remember them.

We always go on a different program, much more interesting than the standard one.

The highlight of the program is the big real waterfall Pongur, where no one else takes from Nha Trang either. A striking difference from other “waterfalls”. Very a nice place, without crowds of people. Just compare the photos, they are better than words.

Then we go to a unique pagoda, where there are never tourists - and the place is more than worthy and very beautiful. The abbess personally allowed me to come and the second floor, which is usually closed at this time, is opened for us. The feeling of something real, not touristy.

Next we visit the Clay Sculpture Park. A very interesting and colorful place where, among other things, you can dress up in national Vietnamese (Chinese, Japanese) clothes for ridiculous money (2 dollars) and take wonderful photographs.

Feel the difference!

It is not simple sightseeing tour around the city, which are done by tour operators and street travel agencies. If you are told that your tour includes a “free” or “gift” excursion around Nha Trang, know that this is actually not an excursion, but a tour of factories and shops disguised as an “excursion”. That's why it's free. Only people who are not used to finding out information in advance go there. You are no longer one of them)

The “Real Nha Trang” tour is completely different both in approach and content.

It can be done individually (couple or family, price on request) or in a group.

Except everyone famous places, we strive to show the real, non-tourist Nha Trang, and Vietnam in general. The highlight of the trip is a country pagoda that few people know about. There are almost no tourists there. On the way to...

Imagine a luxurious, quiet beach where only our small group relaxes (this is often what happens).

It is very beautiful there, there are no waves, no city bustle, the landscape is decorated with picturesque rocks - an ideal place for relaxation and photo sessions. We are on the beach from 8:30 to 15:00.

And on the way back to Nha Trang, we stop at a unique shell temple and the Dragon Labyrinth, through which, according to legend, you can be cleansed of past sins.

The price includes transportation, entrance tickets and mushroom loungers, as well as wine, rum, a lot of fruit and a very tasty Vietnamese dish (everyone eats, there is no extreme, no one ever goes hungry).

The duration of the excursion is from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Group of up to 14 people, comfortable minibus with air conditioning.
