Transport in Bangkok: all types of transportation in the Thai capital. Bangkok public transport: metro, bus, taxi, tuk-tuk, river boats

Bangkok- a huge city with a population of almost 6 million people. Due to the fact that the city was swampy and chaotically built up, the road and transport system did not develop for a long time, and this led to numerous traffic jams and traffic jams. To cope with the transport collapse, a lot of roads and surface and underground metros were built. In addition, buses run in the city, minibuses in the form of pickups, which are called tuk-tuk, and there is also a water service.

Bangkok transport does not have a single official public transport website, no single tickets and a travel card for all types of transport, while buses and metro belong to different companies.

Thai Baht exchange rate: 1 Baht = 1.26 Rubles.

Bangkok Metro

The Bangkok Metro currently consists of two ground and one underground lines. This is the most convenient mode of transport, air conditioners work at the stations, there is no need to stand in traffic jams and inhale the poisoned city air. The surface metro is called bts, underground MRT, you can see them on the Bangkok metro map.

Pay attention to the subway map, it is between Makkasan Station Phaya Thai Station that the best and most popular hotels among tourists are located, for example, the famous hotel in the skyscraper Baiyoke Sky Hotel, Grande Center Point Hotel Ploenchit, Novotel Bangkok Platinum Pratunam, all hotels and apartments in Bangkok You can look at the Hotellook website, which will offer you the largest number of hotels at the lowest prices.

The advantage of the metro is its low congestion, because. it is expensive for city dwellers. Also, transfer stations often do not have convenient crossings and you have to walk through the streets to overcome this distance, although free tuk-tuks run at transfer stations for convenience.

Understanding the subway is not difficult, there are few subway lines, everywhere there are signs where to enter / exit, and Thai inscriptions are duplicated in English.

Skytrain Bangkok (SkyTrain, BTS)

On this moment running two branches: Light Green Line: Sukhumvit Line (Mo Chit - Bearing) And Dark Green Line: Silom Line (National Stadium - Bang Wa). Metro working hours: 05.15-00.12 , official website: www.bts.co.th

Valid tickets are valid only for this metro and are not connected in any way with other modes of transport.

The cost of a ticket for one trip depends on the distance and ranges from 15 to 42 baht. To buy a ticket, you need to go to the ticket machine, select the starting, ending station, the number of passengers, throw in coins and you will be given a ticket that you need to validate! You need coins to buy tickets 5 and 10 baht. Although there are already machines that accept banknotes.

The ticket is valid for 120 minutes; otherwise, a fine of 40 Baht will be charged. Keep the token or ticket until the end of the trip, you will need it to exit the transport through the turnstile.

Day or monthly passes cannot be bought from vending machines, only at ticket offices. One day ticket price - 130 baht. The cost of a ticket for a given number of trips without distance limitation, valid for 30 days:

Bangkok Underground Metro (MRT)

While the underground metro only one branch (Hua Lamphong - Bang Sue), but construction of 2 more branches is underway and 5 branches are still in the plans. Working hours: 06.00-24.00 , official website: www.mrta.co.th

Fares from 16 to 40 baht depending on the distance. A day pass costs 120 baht, for 3 days 230 baht, for a month 1400 baht.

Tickets can be bought at the sales offices at the stations and in special vending machines. The machines only accept change 1.5, 10 baht, as well as banknotes 20, 50 and 100 baht. A single trip token is valid for 90 minutes.

The main state-owned company that carries out bus service in the city - Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) www.bmta.co.th. Except public buses buses run by private companies.

Bus hours: 05:00-2:30, some routes stop running as early as 21.00.

The bus fleet consists of the following vehicles: Isuzu, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, HINO, DAEWOO. There are brand new buses and some look like a blast from the past. 4000 buses run on more than 215 route lines. The coloring of buses depends on the zone, in total the city is divided into 8 zones.

The bus schedule can be found at the information desks in the city center, at the airport, and in any big hotel. You need to pay the fare to the conductor on the bus.

Some buses are air-conditioned, usually orange buses in the city center. Among the residents of Bangkok, this is considered a comfortable transport, respectively, the fare in such a bus is more expensive: about 23 baht instead of 7 baht in an air-conditioned bus. If you take a cheap bus, there will be a lot of people there, because everyone saves.

You can buy a bus pass for a week for 100 and 200 baht(for buses with air conditioning) or for a month for 400 and 800 baht(for buses with air conditioning).

Minibuses Tuk Tuk

Popular mode of transport in countries South-East Asia- it's tuk tuk. A tuk tuk or motorcycle taxi is a three-wheeled vehicle designed to carry passengers or cargo. This is the most emergency mode of transport in Thailand, but the cheapest. Tuk tuk can be caught in any part of the city, always negotiate the fare before boarding. It is estimated that tuk tuks are 30% cheaper than taxis. I have heard stories that one trip will cost 10-20 baht, but most often drivers want much more and can demand both 100 and 300 baht. But it’s not very pleasant to ride a tuk tuk along the smoky streets of Bangkok, it’s better to take a taxi.

Water transport

There are at least 3 types of river trams in the city, two types run on Chao River Praia, and the latter type through narrow channels. If you need to move from coast to coast, then such a crossing will cost you 3 Baht. If you want to ride along the river on the river tram (Chao Phraya Express Boat), then you will need to pay 13 baht. On the map, such a route is indicated by a blue dotted line. Opening hours until 18.00.

Taxi in Bangkok

One of the most popular modes of transport in Bangkok is a taxi, I will tell you about the main points of using this type of transport.

  1. Taxis are most often painted yellow-green, red-blue and pink.
  2. Taxi drivers don't know foreign languages, many cannot read and do not understand street names.
  3. The average cost of a taxi within the center of Bangkok will cost $3-5.
  4. Landing and the first 2 kilometers cost 35 baht.
  5. Pay attention to the taxi driver immediately turn on the taxi-meter!
  6. During the trip, you will see on the counter how much has already been ticked (large numbers).
  7. There are toll highways in the city center and you will have to pay about $1 extra to travel on them.
  8. Often taxi drivers do not want to turn on the meters and try to bargain for a specific overpriced amount.
  9. Many taxi drivers do not know the city well and do not understand maps, so it can be difficult to explain where you need to get to.
  10. Leave about 5-10 baht for tea.

An alternative taxi option is

Good day to all readers

For those tourists who travel the world on their own, information about the development of transport communications in a particular city or region where they move is always very important. Therefore, I always try to pay more attention to writing such articles - about how to get from one city to another or directly about transport communication any city. For example, for travelers to Vietnam, my articles will be useful:

Today there will also be a post about Thailand, or rather about Bangkok. And in this article I will tell you about everything, so that after reading this article, you no longer have questions about whether how and what to travel around Bangkok. So, if you are planning to spend some time in the capital of Thailand soon, then this post will be extremely useful for you!

Let's start in order about all modes of transport in Bangkok ...

1. Metro.

There are 3 types of metro in Bangkok. They do not intersect with each other, and if you need to transfer from one metro line to another, you will have to buy new ticket(or rather a token or a card).

Perhaps the most famous metro line among tourists is the City Line. It is she who is stretched to the Suvernabhumi airport. From the airport, you can use this metro to get to the very center of the city, including the famous tower-hotel Bayok Sky. Details on how to get to the center of Bangkok on this metro and in general about how to use this metro. If you need to go to other areas of the city, then it is not a problem to get from the center.

MRT underground metro - the principle of operation is the same as that of the City Line. Tokens are also bought, and the price of the trip depends on the distance. MRT operates from 6:00 to 24:00.

Surface metro BTS Skytrain. The main difference from the subway is that this subway passes at the height of the third floor and during the trip you can look at Bangkok. Still here not tokens are used, but cards. The scheme is the same - the card must be kept until the end of the train. You can buy a card for one trip (the price depends on the distance), for several trips during the day (it costs 130 baht) or a travel card. If you live in Bangkok or often visit here, then it is more profitable to buy a travel card - with it the price of a trip becomes lower with an increase in the number of trips (from 22 to 27 baht). The surface metro also operates from 6:00 to 24:00.

In general, it is worth noting that, although not the cheapest, it is very convenient to use it. The carriages are equipped with air conditioners, the stations are clean, and most importantly, by taking the subway you bypass all the traffic jams in Bangkok.

2. Taxi.

In Bangkok, traveling by taxi is not only convenient, but also quite budgetary. Of course, the trip will cost you more than the subway or bus, but compared to a taxi in many other cities in the world, it is one of the cheapest. But only if you eat by the meter! The route should be agreed in advance (for this I advise you to have a map of Bangkok with you, which you can take for free at the airport, or a navigator) and even before the start of the trip, show the taxi driver to the check - every taxi is equipped with it. Landing will cost 35 baht, and then depending on the mileage and the presence of traffic jams. Idle time in traffic jams - 1.5 baht per minute. Passengers also pay for toll roads. This pleasure costs 50 baht.

If the taxi driver agrees to go according to the meter, then get into the car, if he refuses and names his amount, then look for another taxi - there are a lot of them in Bangkok. And remember: no matter how you bargain, no matter how much the amount that the taxi driver calls seems acceptable to you, this amount will still be higher than the one that the meter will show at the end of the trip.

3. City bus.

This is the cheapest form of public transport in Bangkok. In total, there are about 300 routes on which approximately 11 thousand buses run, so you can’t tell about all these routes in one article. Yes, this is not necessary. Just take a public transport map at the airport upon arrival in Bangkok - everything is clear there (by the way, the map is free!).

Most of the buses operate from 5:00 to 23:00. But even at night, "night" buses run in Bangkok. Basically, all buses are divided into those with air conditioning and those without air conditioning. This also affects the price of the ticket. With air conditioning - these are: red minibuses, blue buses and eurobuses (blue, orange and white). Without conditioner: red with white stripe and white. The price for a ticket ranges from 4 baht for a bus without air conditioning to 25 baht for a minibus.

Although some buses (those with air conditioning) are quite comfortable to ride, the main advantage of this type of transport is its cheapness. Otherwise, in my opinion, there are only minuses, and the main one is the speed of movement. On average, it is 10-15 kilometers per hour. All thanks to the famous traffic jams of Bangkok. That is why not many tourists choose this type of transport. Unlike the next...

4. River tram.

This is my most favorite public transport in bangkok! These trams run along the Chao Phraya River in both directions. Of course, Chao Phraya does not flow through the whole of Bangkok, but many historical sights are located right next to it. On the river bus you can get to the temples and, very close to the river is Royal Palace and the famous backpacker street khaosan road. By the way, a separate post is being prepared for publication about it, so subscribe to blog updates so as not to miss the release of the article!

Since there are no traffic jams on the river, you can save time on travel. The price of one trip is only 15 baht per person, which you will agree is not very expensive! But the most attractive thing about these river trams is the presence of some kind of exotic in them. After all, we can’t ride anything like this in Russia. That is why so many tourists choose this method of transportation. Some even just to ride.

On the Chao Phraya River:

One of the piers where the river bus stops to pick up passengers. All of them are marked on the map of Bangkok - it is convenient to navigate.

Inside the tram:

Interesting video. We sail on a river bus on the Chao Phraya River:

Separately, it is worth mentioning the ferry, which runs between the two banks of Chao Phraya from the pier next to pier number 8, where the tram stops, to the pier near Wat Arun. The cost of a trip on such a ferry is very symbolic - only 3 baht! Basically, everyone swims on it to the Wat Arun temple, but you can use it just to get to the other side of the river.

Inside the ferry:

5. River Taxi.

Such a river taxi can be found on the Chao Phraya River and on the famous water channels of Bangkok (Klong). The fare is negotiable, but always noticeably less than a tuk-tuk or motorcycle taxi. This type transport is popular with both locals and tourists. Local Thais, if they live or work in close proximity to the river or Klong, on such a taxi avoid standing in the eternal traffic jams of the capital of Thailand. For tourists, this is primarily an opportunity to ride on an unusual form of transport, as well as to see the slums of Bangkok, which are located along the Klong.

6. Knock Knock.

A very exotic and colorful mode of transport - this is what captivates many tourists. The locals do not use this type of transport. The fact is that this is more likely not a type of transport, but entertainment for tourists and the goal of the tuk-tuker is to rip off as much money from you as possible or take it to where this money will be ripped off from you!

It is the tuk-tuk drivers who are a kind of guide to all the dark entertainment in Bangkok, so to speak. Most often in the evenings they seek out single tourists in order to take them to the girls for a massage or boom-boom. From this they receive a percentage of these establishments. Some tuk-tukers also sell drugs. But because of this, they should not be afraid. If you refuse them, then no one will force you to go anywhere.

During the daytime, tuk-tuk drivers participate in a popular tour for tourists. They themselves, or figureheads, constantly hanging around in tourist areas look out for walking tourists. With a very trusting look, they can tell that there are so-called state-owned tuk-tuks, which, in order to develop tourism in Thailand, will take you half a day to the best sights of Bangkok for a nominal fee of 10 or 20 baht. In fact, there are no state-owned tuk-tuks in Bangkok, and you will drive for several hours to shops and private temples, where they will sell you something or help you spend money in some other way. Most often it happens like this: many tourists in the main attractions of Bangkok go to see, for example, the same Royal Palace. Special People already from afar they notice walking tourists and, as they say, sit down in their ear. According to them, it turns out that the Royal Palace is not working now, and will open for visiting only after lunch, that is, you just have 3-4 hours to see other sights of Bangkok on the state tuk-tuk for only 10 baht , and then a tuk-tuk will bring you directly to the palace. But in fairness, it must be said that one should not be very afraid of these layouts. No one can force you to buy anything. And you can just ride a tuk-tuk for 10 baht, make interesting photos and when you get bored, just demand to drop you off or take you to your destination. By the way, we did just that, visited some temple and a store, did not buy anything, took a few pictures, swept with the breeze, and then we were taken to where we were going - to Royal Palace. Spent in such a way as we were promised - 10 baht.

Tuk-tuks also work like ordinary taxis, that is, they can simply take you where you need to go. Only now they do not have counters and they name the price themselves. Even if you bargain, it still comes out more expensive than a taxi by meter. But then again, if you want a lot of exotic, then why not take a ride!

7. Motorcycle taxi.

Unlike tuk-tuks, taxi drivers on motorbikes do not raise prices as much and are a little more willing to bargain. In this way it is convenient to move through traffic jams for short distances.

Such a taxi is easily recognizable by the uniform of taxi drivers-bikers. They are wearing orange or green vests. Personally, I preferred to ride a motorcycle taxi only in Pattaya, where there are no metered taxis. In Bangkok, regular METER taxis (subject to a metered trip) will be even cheaper.

I think that after reading this article, no one will have any problems regarding how to get around the capital of Thailand- now you know about all modes of transport in Bangkok.

See you on the blog pages friends and do not forget to share your thoughts in the comments!

We love to dive into local life and in each city we try to communicate more with local residents, go to markets, holidays, and also travel by cheap local transport.

In this regard, Bangkok's public buses are perfect place for a new experience. In addition, this allows you to save a lot when you want to visit many places, and you often have to travel around the city. Of course, you can take a taxi, but there is only one traffic jam for everyone! And you can not get to all areas of the capital.

Today we will tell you what city buses are, what is the fare for them, what routes go to popular ones.

At first glance, the bus system in the capital of Thailand is very complicated - colorful buses of different sizes and models, all signs are in Thai, left-hand traffic besides ...

But there is a solution! You buy a map of bus routes in any store 7-11 (which are almost on every corner). It costs 99 baht, but it brings incredible benefits. With this map, you do not need any Google applications on your phone (although it is also convenient), it is enough to be able to navigate and, if anything, do not be shy to ask local residents. Conveniently, it is in English and Thai.

Opening hours of public buses from 05.00 to 23.00 (there are also night routes).

Types of buses and fares:

Creamy red with a green stripe- cost 6.5 baht, the most popular transport, without air conditioning with a wooden floor.

Most cheap transport Bangkok

White-blue- cost 8 baht, without air conditioning.

Light and dark pink buses- cost 8 baht, without air conditioning, look a little better.

In air-conditioned buses, the fare depends on the distance, just tell the conductor where you need to go, and he will tell you how much to pay and tell you when it's time to get off.

Yellow, cream blue, orange, white and blue buses- cost from 11 to 35 baht depending on the distance. They are air-conditioned - it's easy to understand when you see that all the windows are closed.

Buses in Bangkok

As we already wrote, there are big traffic jams in Bangkok, so long trip on a bus, especially without air conditioning, this is a test for the strong in spirit :-) We warned you!

Now about how to use the map. In the upper corner there are separate squares with diagrams. A popular tourist place is indicated in the center, for example, and arrows from it to other areas of the city with numbers.

Bangkok bus route map

For example, from Khaosan to northern bus station Mo Chit conditional branch 16. We look at the transcript above: these are routes No. 3, 157, 509.

In this way, we drove to this bus station, so that later we could take a bus. Moreover, it turned out to be about the same time, as if we were going first to the center, and then on the BTS Skytrain or underground metro.

Useful buses that will come in handy

№2 – travels from Khaosan Road via Wat Saket, via business center, Panthip Plaza, Central World Plaza and to the Ekkamai East Bus Station, from where there are buses to Pattaya, Koh Chang and Cambodia.

№40 - from Hua Lamphong through MBK, Siam Center, Siam Paragon shopping centers to Ekkamai East Bus Station.

№503 - from Khaosan Road, through, to Don Muang Airport, from where low-cost airlines fly throughout Thailand and to neighboring countries, for example, Air Asia.

№507 - goes from the southern bus station through, again, the main backpacker street, through Chinatown, the railway station, and towards the eastern bus station.

№509 - from Khaosan Road to the northern Mo Chit bus station (buses to Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Sukhothai, and other cities in the north) and Chatuchak market.

№511 - from the southern bus station Sai Thai May (buses southbound ( Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Phuket, Krabi and others) to Khaosan Road or back. Very convenient route!

№555 - from to Don Muang Airport. On it you can get between airports, but it's very long!

Thus, you can make a lot of routes around the city on public buses, depending on where you want to go.

As you can see, buses in Bangkok are a very convenient and inexpensive way to move around the capital.

The area of the capital of the Kingdom of Thailand is about 1600 square kilometers. As in any metropolis in the world, the public transport network is very developed here. Public transport in Bangkok can be divided into 4 categories: ground, underground, above ground and water.

Are you planning to move around Bangkok with a dog or other pet?

Ground public transport in Bangkok.

TO ground transport we will take the buses we are used to; Songteo, which literally translates from Thai - two shops ("minibuses" open type different colors converted on the basis of pickups); minivans (i.e. familiar to us "minibuses"); Taxi; tuk tuki and motorbike taxi.

Buses in Bangkok are of two types: with air conditioning and without air conditioning. The fare in a bus without air conditioning is fixed and practically does not depend on the distance of your movement (on average it is 7-9 baht), and the fare in an air-conditioned bus will depend on the number of stops i.e. from the range of movement (from 9 to 30 baht). Where conventional bus routes do not reach, their younger brothers, Songteo, come to the rescue. Their routes are usually not difficult, as a rule, they just go straight along high road. And their final destination is either a metro station or bus stop. They are written from which and to which area they are going (of course, in Thai, which makes it very difficult for tourists to travel). The fare in them is from 8 to 20 baht. Minivans. the routes of their movement are almost the same as those of the songteo, only in a minivan it is more comfortable, since the seats are comfortable and soft and there is air conditioning. Accordingly, the fare in them will be 2-2.5 times higher than in songthaews.

Air-conditioned bus

bus without air conditioning

Of course, as in any big city Bangkok has a huge number of taxis. Those who have been to Bangkok have probably noticed that taxi cars come in different colors. Blue, yellow, red, green, yellow-green. Previously, the fare in them was significantly different, but today the prices are absolutely the same. 30 baht appears on the meter as soon as you get into the car, and then the figure will increase depending on the time and distance, that is, for each kilometer of movement, plus for every 30 seconds if you are in a traffic jam or moving from speed less than 6 km/h. On average, a Bangkok taxi ride on the meter will cost you 5-6 baht for each km. Taxi drivers who work in the most popular areas among foreigners very often, if not always, refuse to turn on the meter and prefer to receive a fixed and, of course, overpriced payment.

Motobike taxi. Due to the rather uncomfortable climate for walking in Thailand, there are a large number of 2-wheel taxis. They usually stand at residential buildings and metro and bus stops and will gladly take anyone who wants to in the direction he needs. Usually they go on foot on average from 500 meters to 1 kilometer and it costs 10-20 baht.

Knock here. This is an example of a good symbiosis of a motorbike and a taxi. In all regions of Thailand, tuk tuks look different. In Bangkok, it's a three-wheeled thing with 2-3 passenger seats in the back. they usually run in places with the greatest concentration of tourists. The cost of the trip with them must be negotiated in advance.

Underground type of public transport in the capital of the Kingdom of Thailand.

Underground transport includes, of course, the “subway” or metro. The metro system in Bangkok is officially called MRT (eMeRTe) - Mass Rapid Transit). Extends from Bangsue North Railway Station to Hua Lumpong Central Station in a circle, connecting to BTS (BTS) at 3 stations (Silom, Sukhumvit and Chatuchak Park). The fare depends on the distance traveled and starts from 15 baht.

Overhead mode of transport in Bangkok.

TO air transport we refer Sky Train or as it is called in Bangkok to BTS (BTS) and Airport Rail Link

  • Airport Rail Link consists of 2 railway lines- Non-stop Express (red) and City Train (blue). Both lines operate from 06.00 until midnight. Non-stop Express departs from Suvarnabhumi airport and ends its route at Makkasan station. The journey takes only 15 minutes and the train leaves every 30 minutes. The City Train makes stops at Lat Krabang, Ban Chang Thup, Hua Mak, Makkasan, Ratchaprarop and Phaya Thai. The journey takes 27 minutes, trains run every 15 minutes. It's very fast and inexpensive way get from the center of Bangkok to the airport avoiding traffic jams and congestion.
  • BTS (BTS) Skytrain is the safest, most comfortable and convenient way to travel in Bangkok. It offers residents and visitors a comfortable ride within the central part of Bangkok - above the constant congestion, noise and gassed streets.

Water public transport.

Sometimes Bangkok is called the "Asian Venice" because of the large number of canals and rivers stretching through the whole city. Public transport, that is, boats are divided into 3 types.

  • 1 Boats that ply through small artificial channels called Klong in Thai. These boats are not comfortable and are used mainly locals, although the route runs along Sukhumvit Road and could be an alternative for getting around busy Bangkok.

  • 2 boats bigger size that run along the Chao Phraya River. There are 4 routes along the river. The starting and ending stations, like the entire route, are exactly the same. They differ in intermediate stations. The fewer stops the boat has, the more expensive it will be to travel, as it will move much faster. The routes differ in color and on the stern of each boat there is a flag of the corresponding color (yellow, green, orange).

  • 3 are boats and ferries that run between the left and right banks of the Chao Phraya River

P.S. Today, almost every traveler has a smartphone and, accordingly, the ability to use Google maps. You just need to poke a point on the map that you want to get to and Google itself will give you all the possible options with the numbers of buses or boats and the number of stops that you need to pass. You can also use UBER in Thailand. Tested personally and some pluses. The most important thing, in our opinion, is that you don’t have to explain to the taxi driver where to go, since you immediately put 2 points from where and where, and the second one no less important point this is that the cost of the trip will be known to you in advance.

Types of transport in Bangkok in order of convenience-speed and cost:

1. Metro: underground and surface (fast and inexpensive, but for one person).

2. Taxi (required by the meter!) - if there are two or more of you, it will be cheaper to travel around Bangkok by taxi. For example, a ride from the shopping center of BTS Siam to the Royal Palace costs about 70 baht.

3. Knock-tuk. Mainly for tourists, in tourist places, but on short distances can be quite convenient and inexpensive. The only thing worth knowing is not to take “free” city tours (you will be taken shopping).

4. Boats. This is a very cheap mode of transport and quite fast, but you can use it in a rather limited area.

5. Moto-taxi is the most quick view transport! But for long distances it is not very cheap. However, it has an undoubted plus - if you rode a motorcycle taxi in Bangkok, then you are no longer afraid of anything in life (motorcycle taxi in Bangkok and Pattaya is one of the best rides worth a try!).

6. BRT ( bus line) - its minus is that it is very small and almost does not pass through tourist places. But on the other hand, you can drive and see how the Thais live without tourists.

7. Buses. If you have nowhere to put your time and no money, then this transport is for you. The easiest way to use it is with the help of a Google map, which, when plotting a route, shows which buses go to the place you need.

And now in more detail.

BTS (Bangkok Mass Transit System) is Bangkok's elevated metro system. It was opened in 1999 and currently remains one of the fastest and convenient ways travel around Bangkok. The two subway lines intersect at the Siam transfer station, which is located in the shopping center of the city.

Cost of a trip to BTS depends on the distance. The minimum tariff is 15 baht, the maximum is 55 baht. You can find out the cost and buy a single ticket right at the station in front of the train entrance. Everything is quite simple there: ticket cards are bought at vending machines, on which the cost of a trip to the desired station is marked:

If you plan to make several trips a day, then it makes sense to purchase ticket at the box office - One Day Pass. It allows you to make unlimited trips in one day for 120 baht.

Suvarnabhumi link is a BTS line connecting Suvarnabhumi Airport to the city center. You can choose high-speed train(red line, closed until April 2015), it goes to the city center non-stop, or the city line (blue line), it goes with several stops. Travel time on the express train will be 15 minutes, the ticket price is 90 baht, the city line train from terminus to terminus takes 40-50 minutes and the ticket costs 40 baht.

The most attractive metro stations for tourists:

Chatuchak Market(open on Saturday and Sunday evenings) and Chatuchak Park - Mo Chit station;
MBK Shopping Center- National stadium station;
Siam Paragon Mall- Siam station;
Trade center world plaza- Chit Lom station;
Lumpini Park (big park with live monitor lizards) - Sala Daeng station;
Rachaprarop- nearest station to tall building Thailand, Baiyok Sky Hotel;
Suvarnapum airport– Suvarnabhumi station (you can take the airport branch train at Phaya Thai station);
Eastern bus station(buses to Koh Chang, Koh Samet, Pattaya) - Ekkamai station
Mo Chit bus station– Mo Chit station (the bus station itself is located about two to three km from the station, so you need to take a motorcycle taxi or a taxi meter);
South Bus Station- Wongwian Yai Station. The bus station is quite far from the station, you can get to it by public transport only with transfers, so the best option- take a taxi meter.
Victory Monument- a big stop for minibuses going to Pattaya, Koh Chang, Kanchanaburi, Ayutthaya and many other neighboring cities;
Saphan Taksin- a metro station where you can get off and transfer to a boat going along the Chao Phraya River (and get to Koasan Road as well).

MRT - Bangkok underground metro

The MRT line was launched in 2004 and today consists of one branch: from Hua Lamphong railway station north to Bang Sue station. MRT intersects with lines ground metro at Si Lom, Sukhumvit and Chatuchak Park stations. The ticket price also depends on the distance of the trip and starts from 15 baht.

The map of the underground metro is presented above along with the overground one.

Taxi in Bangkok

Taxi with meters in Bangkok is a fairly inexpensive means of transportation. For example:

Bangkok public buses

There are a lot of buses in Bangkok, their cost is minimal (there are even free ones), but their routes are so confusing that it seems difficult to figure it out right away. However, if you have a smartphone with a Google map, then everything is very simple - find your destination on the map and see bus routes that Google will offer you!

Traffic jams in Bangkok - especially in the evening - are just crazy, so if it's business, then it's better to take the subway, boats or even motorcycle taxis (if it's really traffic jams). A good time to travel by bus is around 10 o'clock in the morning, when there should be no big traffic jams. Well, if you are ready to spend your time and ride to the place you need on the bus, then here are a few recommendations.

There are several types of Bangkok buses:

  • Small green ones - they cost 6.5 baht without air conditioning, with wooden floors, open windows and doors.
  • The red buses are the same as the green ones, but a little more, they cost 7 baht per trip. There are two types: if there is a yellow sign under the windshield, then the bus goes along the express route, if there is no yellow sign, then it means the usual one.
  • White buses - there are no special differences from red and green ones, the ticket costs 8 baht, perhaps because they look a little more decent.
  • White and blue with a green stripe are air-conditioned buses, the ticket price depends on the distance and ranges from 11 to 19 baht. There are also two types: regular and express (with a yellow sign under the windshield).
  • Orange buses are air conditioned. The cost is from 12 to 22 baht. There are regular and express.
  • Blue and yellow are air-conditioned express buses.
  • Pink and white buses - the ticket costs 25 baht, these buses are comfortable, air-conditioned and with only seats.

If you are looking for a quick bus ride to far distance, then it is better to forget about this idea. Despite the fact that buses often have a special lane on the road, they take a very long time, winding along the roads. But Bangkok buses are very convenient to use for short distances.

River transport in Bangkok

Due to the abundance of canals, Bangkok used to be called the Second Venice. Before the advent of the road network, canals and boats were the primary means of transportation around the city. Now most of the channels are blocked and are not used for movement, but the largest ones remain and you can quickly move around the center along them. The cost of a ticket for a boat passing through the canals of the city starts from 9 baht, depending on the distance of the trip.

A boat ticket on the Chao Phraya River costs 15 baht and does not depend on the distance. Express boats (for 40 baht) and water taxis also pass along the river. Tickets can be purchased at the piers and on the boats themselves. The largest pier is Sathon (also Taksin), it is located next to BTS station Saphan Taksin.
