Doha Hamad International Airport Qatar. Hamad International Airport, Qatar

Fly by planes Qatar Airways and make connections in Hamad International Airport - that's how I wanted to title this article. Firstly, because we have not yet seen such excellent service in the economy class of an aircraft, and secondly, because Hamad Airport in Doha is the best example of how to do main airport country convenient, beautiful, interesting. In both cases, the most important thing is the real concern for passengers.

Qatar Airways

From a conversation with a friend:

- How did you get there?
– Excellent, we have never flown so cool in economy class!
- For the first time I hear that the economy was praised ...

Why did we like five-hour, seemingly tedious flights with Qatar Airways? I'll tell you in order.

Even though we had single ticket for three flights (Chelyabinsk-Moscow-Doha-Colombo), at check-in at the Chelyabinsk airport we were given only one boarding pass. However, the baggage was checked in before end point. In Moscow Domodedovo, we had to go through another check-in for the flight, where we were asked to present our luggage coupons and confirmed that our luggage had been sent to Colombo. And after registration, they gave us two tickets at once (to Doha and from there to Colombo) in a bright orange envelope.

The color of the envelope is a signal to employees Hamad airport in the capital of Qatar, Doha. If the color is green, you won’t get to the airport at all, you will be picked up from one plane and immediately taken to another. Orange color means a short connection, that is, you will get to the terminal and immediately go to the desired gate to board the next flight. It was these envelopes that were given to us - we had to spend 55 minutes at the airport. Yellow envelope means long docking. No need to be afraid of this, Hamad is the very place where it will be interesting to hang out for a few hours. But more on that below.

When passing border control the service officer strictly asked for what purpose I was flying to Qatar. Having learned that we had only a docking there, he smiled and put a seal. Probably, these are increased security measures, after all, a Muslim state.

Finally, all obstacles are passed, Russian chocolate is in duty free bought (we always take Russian chocolate for possible presents for children, maids and “you never know where it comes in handy”). We stand at the right gate and admire the young flight attendants of our flight. Beautiful form, beautiful smiling girls. Not all, by the way, are of Arab nationality - the one on the left in the photo is Serbian.

And here we are on the plane! After the small Airbus S7, the dimensions are impressive. But more striking is the comfort of the chairs, the headrests (with folding side parts so that the head does not dangle) ... And on each chair there is a pillow and a blanket in a disposable package. This is not handing out blankets to you. charter flight, where, if you didn’t manage to snatch right away, then don’t freeze - it turns out that you didn’t have enough ...

On different Qatar flights Airways (and we, it turns out, flew with them four times per trip) have their own nuances, but the main “chips” are the same, so I will describe everything at once.

No tight rows and no knees resting against the chair in front. There is even a special footrest that can be conveniently removed under the seat (it must be raised during takeoff and landing).

USB port for phone charging? And please! Personal TV? Nate!

In the armrest of your chair there is a remote control with which you can control the screen, turn on the light or ventilation, call the flight attendant and even ... make a phone call.

What is offered to us in the menu on the screen? A large selection of films (including in Russian), games (both for adults and children), music, information about the flight and much more... not to carry with you is much more convenient.

For five hours of flight, you can enjoy watching a couple of films. But I was more impressed interactive map. Information about the route, about where the plane is flying to this moment, nearby cities and information about them, time zones, altitude, temperature, flight time - very informative! And then you’re flying in an incomprehensible place, staring at the clouds passing by from below ... And then - the city looked out into the gap, and you know which one, right?

Airplane food is another beautiful song. I mean, the song, not the food. Salad, cheese and butter, a bun, water in an airtight glass, a delicious hot dish (with beef or chicken, as well as vegetarian), a cake for dessert, a chocolate bar - all in beautiful plastic containers with patterned lids, plus translucent plastic cutlery. Drinks - for every taste. Juices, water, tea. Cola and various sodas in small cans. Hennessy cognac, Red Label whiskey, gin Beefeater, wine and other spirits. And you can ask for supplements. Moreover, you can call the flight attendant several times and ask them to bring you more whiskey, for example. Everything will be done with a smile. On one of the flights, a Russian guy sitting next to us even abused this somewhat, as a result of which he tasted rubbish. 🙂

Five hours of flight fly by like one. Have you already wanted to travel by air in Qatar? Then go ahead, book your tickets!

Hamad International Airport

international Airport Hamad in the capital of Qatar, Doha, is brand new - built in 2014. And everything in it is made for people, and, what is important, for different people. That is for every need. And we even felt sorry that both connections at this airport were very short for us - 55 minutes each.

All the amenities of this airport are very well described in the article “Doha International Airport (Qatar) - Hamad International Airport. Instructions for use ", so I send you there for detailed information.

For those who are too lazy to follow the link, in short: there are three huge buildings of passenger terminals. For free: rest rooms - Quiet Rooms (including separate ones for men and women) with sun loungers and soft flooring, toilets (for men, for women, and one more view - either for Bedouins, or for women in a veil), smoking rooms with armchairs and TV (this is in a Muslim country where it is a sin to smoke at all!), sockets in each column, TV zones with armchairs and tables, computer zones, works of art by contemporary authors with a worldwide reputation (the airport was designed and built in partnership with leading museums of the country), fountains with drinking water, Wi-Fi, rooms for families with children, playgrounds. For money: Oryx lounge areas ($40 per person) with beds, buffet and even a swimming pool, cafes and shops. Prices are high, because Qatar is not a poor country. Excursion. If you have a long connection at Hamad airport, you can go on a tour of the capital for free, you do not need to issue any visas, you will be accompanied by a guide. And at the end of such an excursion, you will also be brought to the market so that you can buy souvenirs in memory of Doha.

Great, isn't it? Personally, we were very sorry that we had short connections at Hamad airport and long ones at Domodedovo. It would be better the other way round...

We just managed to run twice through the terminals in search of our gate, so I present you with brief photo sketches of Hamad Airport.

The first time we arrived almost in the evening, the direct access to the terminals was closed, and everyone went to the general one. On customs control there were such queues that at first we were confused - it was not possible to get through in 50 minutes. But, as it turned out, you just need to show your orange ticket to the airport employee, and we were shown out of line.

Behind the magnificent panoramic windows, we, alas, could not really see anything. Whether it was fog, or a sandstorm, and then darkness suddenly descended ... Eh, we didn’t see the capital of Qatar even through the window, as well as through the windows on the plane.

The airport is really just huge. You go, you go in search of an exit to the gates, but the end-edge is not visible. Travelators are everywhere. If you're not in a hurry, you can just go, moving from one moving sidewalk to another.

However, we flew at a fast pace, afraid of not finding the gate in Colombo in time. Not forgetting, of course, to click the camera on the run. The glass train on the monorail forced them to stop and open their mouths. He approached absolutely silently!

Even the airport is transported by typewriter. Can you imagine the scale of the room if cars drive quietly in it?

And again in passing - soft plush dinosaurs ...

... and surprise with their unusualness. I want to go back to childhood and climb here. But no time.

Here is our gate, before departure there is time to go to the toilet.

Speaking of toilets. I'm talking about women, of course. The cleanliness is perfect. Shower-bidet. And… when, having done my business, I got up and started buttoning my trousers, behind me the toilet itself turned on the flush. I was so struck by this that I looked at him from all sides for a couple of minutes, trying to guess where his sensor was. 😀 But how convenient, you don't need to touch anything! Hygiene.

Having done our business, we go to check in for the flight. The process takes half a minute.

And now we are already on the plane, looking through the windows at the evening airport. It's a pity you can't see the Persian Gulf, because runways are right along it.

We saw Doha only in this version - in bright night lights, leaving in foggy darkness ...

On the way back, the connection at Hamad International Airport fell on the day. The exit to the terminals was open, so we saved some time by not going through customs. Therefore, again at a quick pace, we ran through the airport. Play areas again...

Shops, this time open…

Palm trees and the glass ceiling of the central hall, which we did not reach the first time.

The main symbol of Hamad airport is this warm lamp bear. Well, except for the fact that it's huge. It is made of bronze, weighs 17 tons and costs $6.5 million. As conceived by Swiss artist Urs Fischer, Lamp/Bear is designed to humanize airport space and remind us of home…

The bear makes a double impression. On the one hand - admiration for its vastness and such similarity to a real plush toy. On the other hand, he is strange, after all ... This lamp sticking right out of my head ... And I still wanted to touch it - is it really hard? But, alas, the fence makes it clear that you should not do this.

Here we are on the plane. Alas, the foggy haze still hangs over the city, so we can only see nearby buildings. The Persian Gulf is not visible again.

After takeoff, we guess the outlines of skyscrapers in the fog ... Oh, what a pity that we do not see them in all their glory! The camera does not capture them at all.

Hamad International Airport located in Doha, the capital of Qatar. It is an important point where almost all travelers to Qatar arrive and where they transfer to onward Qatar Airways flights.

The airport is new, large and easy to get lost in. If your transfer lasts 1-2 hours or less, the airport staff will show you the way to the boarding gate of the next flight. But if it’s more than 4-5 hours before it, then you need to know where you can spend time. One of my transfers at Hamad Airport lasted 15.5 hours, so I had to explore the airport quite thoroughly.

First information for those who arrives in Qatar and for whom Doha is final destination travel - everything happens here in in the usual way: if you have a visa ( approx. – in 2018, a visa to Qatar for Russians was canceled!) after passing the customs and passport control arrivals go to one of the eight baggage belts and receive their luggage, after which they leave the airport building. Customs officers usually take their time when checking passports, but you need to be patient and attentive.

Currency exchange point located immediately behind the baggage belts on the right (if you are facing the exit), in the area of belt 3.

Leaving the building of Hamad Airport, you can take Taxi(all owned by the state company Mowasalat and are metered, the cost is from 25 Qatari reais, or rather 1.2 reais per kilometer during the day and 1.8 reais per kilometer after 9 pm and before 5 am), or automobile car rental (you can pre-book a car online or go to the counter in the arrivals hall). Another option is to get to Doha on one of the three bus trips:

  • 777 – Loop route to West Bay via Cornish Street. Runs every 20 minutes. It works from 5 am to 11 pm. The fare (charged from the transport card) is 5 real (QAR).
  • 109 – Route from Al Ghanim Bus Station via Hamad Airport, Barwa Village and Al Wakra to Mesaieed. Should be every half hour. Opening hours - from 4 to 23 hours. The fare is from 2.5 to 6 real.
  • 747 - follows from Hamad International Airport through the area and the Souq Waqif and Al Matar Street to the Al Ghanim bus station. The frequency is every 20 minutes. Works from 4 am to 23.45. The fare is from 2.5 to 3 real.

The buses are owned by Qatar's state transport company, Mowasalat. Attention! All bus trips pay only for special transport cardKarwa Smartcard. It can be purchased or topped up at the company's information desk, Mowasalat Information Desk, which is located in the baggage claim area at the shops between belts 5 and 6. Offered transport cards three options:

  • For two trips around the city. The validity period is 24 hours. The cost is 10 Qatari reais (QAR) or $3.
  • Unlimited trips. The validity period is 24 hours. The cost is 20 QAR or $5.
  • Permanent card with the possibility of replenishment. The cost is 30 QAR or $8.

It should be noted that there are two airports in the capital of Qatar - one old ( Doha International Airport), the other is new ( Hamad International Airport), located behind it and a little further from the city, at the tip of the cape. One of the closest hotels to the airport is Marriott, next to the city center is the Radisson.

On the other side of the bay, at the end of Al Corniche Street, which runs along the coast past the Museum of Islamic Art, there is Sheraton in the form of a huge stepped pyramid.

If you are in transit at Qatar airport, then, especially with a long transfer, you need to find places where you can relax and have a bite to eat. In the center of the airport is a huge figure of a yellow lamp stylized teddy bear. All around are halls with boutiques selling jewelry, accessories, watches, clothes, underwear, cosmetics, drinks, chocolate, sweets, souvenirs, etc. There is an information desk directly opposite the bear. If you look at him so to speak, face to face, then the left will be exitA, on right - exitB, directly, or rather behind the back of a giant bear - exitsC, DAndE.

Map from dohahamadairport.com

Around the perimeter you can find toilets, smoking rooms, playrooms for children, currency exchange offices, beauty salons and prayer rooms for Muslims. Nearby are escalators leading to the center of the hall and elevators to the second floor. On it, as well as on level 3 are lounges– Oryx Lounge, Al Maha, Business Class Lounge, First Class Lounge, Al Mourjan (Level 3, First and Business Class), Al Safwa. Most of them are designed for business and first class travelers with the accompanying services: food, drinks, comfortable chairs and entertainment, as well as wi-fi, shower, conference room, business center, rooms for family vacation. Traveling in economy class, you can get into them for separate fee. So, for example, they have access to the hall Oryx, which offers its visitors to sit in a comfortable room with food and drinks, an internet point and a "quiet zone" for about 8 hours for 200 reais ($55). To get to it, as well as to the Al Maha lodge, spa and hotel, you need to take the elevator located behind the back of the bear a little to the right.

In addition to shops, the airport has more than 30 restaurants and cafes. Most of is located a little to the left of the center of the airport and the bear - you need to pass the Seafood Bar and the stairs nearby and go forward. Some cafes are located to the right and left of the yellow bear, some are in front of exits C and D, others are at level zero.

As indispensable places to sleep for budget travelers are the so-called "quiet rooms", Quiet rooms. These rooms are equipped with long anatomical chairs. Wrapped up in a blanket, you can sleep quite well on them for any time - no one will bother you. Quiet rooms are located throughout the airport and at the gates. The closest to the center of the hall is to the right of the bear, you need to enter the corridor between the Hermes and Bulgari boutiques. Other "quiet rooms" are located like this:

  • Exit A - on the left side behind the information desk, then - next to the toilets at the boarding gate No. 4
  • Exit B is the same
  • Gate C - at gates C3, C8
  • Exit D is between the transition from C to D, that is, between exits C12 and D1 and at the top, opposite D.

From 2017-2018 there is a high-speed train to the far boarding gates inside the terminal.

In addition to restful sleep, long transplant travelers have the opportunity to visit the capital of Qatar for free, without a visa. It is provided by Qatar Airways as part of Doha city Tour. You can sign up for a tour at the counter of the same name, located in front of exit B between WH Smith and Mont Blanc stores, not far from the center of the hall. Tours take place at 8 am, 11 am, 4 pm and 8 pm. Registration closes an hour and a half before the start, so it's best to arrive 2 hours before the start of the tour.

Participants are offered bottles of water and placed in a comfortable bus. Stops include Souq Waqif, the Museum of Islamic Art, the Pearl of Qatar and Cultural Center Qatar. Read more about Doha and excursions in the article.
