Uzhgorod: where to go and what to see. Natural sights of Uzhgorod. Influence of the XIX-XX centuries on the formation of Uzhgorod

Ancient Ungvar. For me, this city smells of fresh pastries and strong coffee. From the very morning, even before everyone woke up, church bells ring out. It seems that people are never in a hurry to get to work - they always have time to drink their morning coffee. Coffee is drunk everywhere here: in small ones, on two tables, and in big cafes just walking the streets. This city has its own time measurement: minutes and hours do not fly by, as in other cities, but float slowly so that you can enjoy the fact that you are drinking this particular morning coffee right now.
Every morning I see how young mothers sit with their kids in cozy cafes and chat about something with their girlfriends.
Here you can walk for hours along the linden alley, where it is always cool and always cozy.

It was on this alley that I first saw a strange little figure sitting on the railing, looking out over the river. It turned out to be a miniature monument to Jon Lord, the musician of Deep Purple.

This is where my mini-quest started. I started reading about this, in my opinion, a very original phenomenon - all over the city there are these small figures. They are in the most prominent place and I have passed by hundreds of times, walking with a child. But I never noticed them. Until that moment.

Here I want to write where they are approximately, but exact address I will not speak. It is very interesting to find them yourself. This adds even more charm to Uzhgorod.
Therefore, if you are ready, take the kids, we are on our way!

From Lipovaya Alley go towards the footbridge. Two small sculptures lurk here. One of them is Saint Nicholas. This is the figurine that started it all. According to legend, on Christmas Day 2010, the inhabitants of Uzhgorod received a letter from St. Nicholas, in which he said that from now on he had an official representative in this city. He settled on main square, and rubbing his nose for good luck is the main task of every tourist.

Next to Nikolaichik stands Carpathia. It was this ship that first came to the aid of the passengers of the poor Titanic. But in 1918, in the line of duty, Carpathia went under.

After crossing the pedestrian bridge, you can go either to the right or to the left. You will find something interesting everywhere. I went to the left. There, on the Freedom Square, the monument to Svobodka proudly stands. She didn't end up there by accident. This monument appeared in response to Ukrrichflot's claims regarding an unauthorized regatta on the Uzh River. The claim was that regattas and swims should not be held if beacons or other measures were not installed on the shores that would guarantee safety on the water. The absurdity of the claim is that "the water is already up to the neck when you stand on your head." If you look closely, then a small diode is mounted in the Svobodka torch. Now on Already have a lighthouse!

1

Going down the stairs you can find another sculpture - the Rubik's Cube. By installing it in 2014, the city celebrated the 40th anniversary of this puzzle.

1

Now turn left and walk a little deeper. There you will find Transcarpathian lovers. They have recently added to our collection. The sculpture personifies the beautiful Kristina Chaki and the courageous Miklos Bercheni, the owners of the Uzhgorod castle in the 17th century. Even the difference in age did not become an obstacle to this love: the young count was barely 22 years old, while his beloved was already over 40.

1

Back to Footbridge, but we go from it along the embankment to the right. There we will meet Tivodar Kostko-Chontvary, the great Hungarian artist. A few meters from him sits the "good soldier Schweik." He salutes and holds a delicious dumpling in his hands. The grandson of Yaroslav Hasek, the author of the book about Schweik, Richard Hasek, attended the opening of this monument.

Next, we will be accompanied by a family of hedgehogs. They appeared here in 2013 in honor of the Days of Czech Culture in Ukraine. Why eat? They symbolize the Czech beer "Hedgehog", which is brewed in Jihlava, the sister city of Uzhgorod. Hence the name of the sculpture - "Jihlava Hedgehog".

Perhaps this is where I should have started, but my path was different.

Now we are returning to where we started - on Korzo Street, and we find the children's music school named after. Tchaikovsky (walk along Korzo street, along right hand you will see the church of St. George, a little further behind it). There, on the railing, sits Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

3

The monument was erected in January 2015 in honor of the great composer's birthday.

No tour of Uzhgorod is complete without a visit to the Uzhgorod Castle. Visit it too, because that's where we find a few more mini-sculptures.
On one of the walls of the castle there is a sculpture dedicated to the founder of the city, Prince Laborets. The bronze figure of Prince Laborets, who was twisted with a bronze cord and symbolically attached to a metal sword. This figure is allegedly the handle of this weapon. It's replay tragic death Prince: The laboratory was drowned by the attackers in the river, which is now called Laborets.

Walking past the Cathedral, at 9 Kapitulnaya Street, you cannot miss the mini-copy eiffel tower. But look carefully around.

2

Go down to Postal Square. Here, on the walls, which seem to be more than one hundred years old, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Independence of our country, another sculpture was hidden - chocolate Ukraine. What does the author of the figurine hint at: who is our president or that our country is very appetizing and everyone wants a piece?

Back in the city center again, look for Mustard Seed Lane. Opposite it you will find another sculpture - Small Already. It turns out that once upon a time the Small Uzh River flowed in this place, but with the development of the city, it was decided to hide it underground. By the way, in the alley there is Khinkalnya - a restaurant of Georgian cuisine. I highly recommend visiting!

On the territory of Uzhhorod and its environs there are many places that will be interesting for tourists to see.

At the very foothills of the Carpathians there is a beautiful city that dates back more than 1000 years. The river, called Uzh, like a huge snake winds around, divides the area into several parts. As for the most accurate age of the city, there are still disputes between scientists and archaeologists on this topic. Many stop at the beginning of the 10th and the end of the 11th centuries, when the formation of the Hungarian state took place.

One of the first written references is a document dated 1154. Until 1840 the city was called Ungvar. In the history of the city there are still quite a lot of "blank spots", there is still a lot to explore and prove. Despite this, there is much to see and admire.

Uzhgorod did not begin to flourish immediately, the way we see it now, the city has been becoming for many hundreds of years. Residents are very fond of their ancient city, and make a lot of efforts to keep it in the attractive state in which it is on this moment.

Uzhgorod

Here you can easily find out what to see in Uzhgorod and where to go in Uzhgorod. Pro interesting places and sights of Uzhgorod. Where can you relax in Uzhgorod?

Uzhgorod- a city that is not forgotten ...

How to get to Uzhgorod? The easiest way to get to Uzhgorod is by train, which takes one night if you go from Kyiv. You can also get to Uzhgorod by car along the Kyiv-Chop highway.

In a cozy valley, surrounded by mountains and plateaus of the Carpathians, stretching on both banks of the Uzh River, stands the ancient city of Uzhgorod. Modern name "Uzhgorod" speaks for itself: the city above the river Uzh.

According to most research scientists, the river Uzh (by the way, in the territory of Slovakia through which it flows, the river is called - Ug) has nothing to do with the snake of the same name. The name of the river comes from the word "uzok" (from Bulgarian - narrow), meaning the narrow valley of the river.

The history of Uzhgorod has more than 1100 years. The Hungarian chronicle of Shimon Kezai dates the founding of the city to 872. However, in the first half of the 1st century AD, the ancient Slavs (White Croats) settled modern area Uzhgorod. In the IX century. the fortified settlement-castle turned into a fortified early feudal city, which became the center of the Slavic principality headed by the legendary Prince Laborets. In 896, the Hungarian tribes, under the leadership of their leader Almos, killed the prince and captured the city.

"Golden age", Uzhgorod begins in 1318, when the Italian counts Druggety became rulers. The new owners strengthened the city's role as an economic and commercial center. At that time, the coat of arms of the city was a shield with two vines, and on them were three leaves and two bunches of grapes, which indicated the main occupation of its inhabitants. In the 16th-17th centuries, Uzhgorod, which became the extreme eastern outpost of Habsburg Austria on the border with Transylvania after the Battle of Mohacs, rapidly developed economically, but at the same time became an arena of confrontation between Orthodoxy, Catholicism and Protestantism. As a result, in 1646 the Union of Uzhgorod was proclaimed, which gave rise to Greek Catholicism in Transcarpathia. In the 18th century Uzhgorod was famous for its fairs. Merchants from Slovakia, Germany, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Greece, and Russia came here. Around the same time, the famous castles of Transcarpathia were built.

Uzhgorod has a very long and interesting story but back to the present. Getting to know it ancient city, most often starts from the railway station. The station building is very neat and made "antique", perhaps the only one of its kind. Each city has its own business card, the place that most identically reflects the general atmosphere of the city, for Uzhgorod is a castle, and it is worth going there first of all.

Transcarpathia is one of the most beautiful places Ukraine, because it mixed different peoples with their traditions and culture, regional center which became Uzhgorod. This amazing city called "Little Paris" Transcarpathia, and since I can’t go to yet, I decided to visit his miniature.

What to see in Uzhhorod

Arriving at unfamiliar city You always want to make time for the most interesting things. Despite the fact that Uzhgorod is the smallest regional center of Ukraine, it will not be difficult to find historical, architectural and natural attractions, so there is no doubt that there will be something to see. When you arrive at this incredible beautiful town with a population of 115 thousand, you understand that Czechoslovakia and Hungary left their own unique imprint.

Museums of Uzhhorod

is one of the most visited museums in the city. Among other things historical heritage you can see the Transcarpathian dwellings of an old building with traditional household sheds. But it seems that the most expressive landmark dominating the open-air museum is The 22-meter three-domed Lemko Church of St. arch. Michael made of wood.

Thanks to the 4-tiered iconostasis, assembled from icons of the 17th-18th centuries, it was popular. The church attraction dates back to 1777. Although at first it was located in the Mukachevo region in the village of Shelestovo, already in 1928 - in Mukachevo itself, and in 1972 it was transferred to the Uzhgorod Museum, two years after its opening.

Not far from the Museum of Folk Architecture is striking Uzhgorod castle(I'll talk about it a little further), which houses local history museum. It has about 30 halls of various subjects and more than 110 thousand exhibits. All of them make up the most beautiful folk art, the spiritual culture of the villages, ethnography, original firearms and more. The department of nature will tell about the different animals and birds that are presented the largest collection of stuffed animals in Ukraine. The department of archeology liked the bronze items of the 13th-12th centuries BC. e., Department of Religion and Spiritual Culture - painted on the walls by the mid-19th century artist Ferdinand Vydra.

Monuments of Uzhgorod

I would like to pay attention to two monuments in the center of Uzhgorod, which especially attracted my attention. One of them is very beautiful at night. This is a monument to a lamplighter trying to fix a lantern on the wall. From the slab nailed next to it, it is clear that it is dedicated to Uncle Kolya, who for many decades took care of the city and did an excellent job.

The second is dedicated to Ignatius Roshkovich. It is presented as an artist with an easel, who made an invaluable contribution to the artistic wealth of Austria-Hungary. An exact copy of this monument can also be seen in Budapest.

Couldn't get past mini-sculptures of Uzhgorod. The first of them - the sculpture of St. Nicholas - was created in 2010. From that time everything started. At the moment there are about 25 of them. The author of the idea was the sculptor Mikhail Kolodko.

According to him, each of the bronze mini-statues tells local residents and guests of the city about outstanding people, interesting, worthy historical figures, characters or mythical heroes who had something to do with Uzhgorod or Transcarpathia. This is Peter the Great, and Harry Houdini, and John Lord, as well as many others. And thanks to a special guide, it will take only 3 hours to walk around all the mini-sculptures. (See card photo below).

Architecture of Uzhgorod

Liked it a lot Uzhgorod Castle is the most visited place in the city.

There are always a lot of people there. locals call it the heart of the city. And the truth is, it is. I was attracted by this wonderful masterpiece with its Romanesque architectural style. The building dating back to the middle of the 10th century functions today as a museum. The museum houses a local history museum with a huge number of different expositions. The cellars of the castle also keep history - "Torture Room" with exhibits recreated using drawings, medieval sketches, engravings and photographs. Stepping out into the yard, he turned his attention to 36 meter well, which once served as a secret exit during a siege.

Uzhhorod is the regional center Transcarpathian region, so there are many places of trade in the city, for example shopping mall Korzo. Its uniqueness lies in its architecture. A combination of modernity along with old 2-storey, and somewhere 3-storey buildings, decorated with stucco ornaments.

Religious buildings of Uzhgorod

The inhabitants of Uzhgorod are very pious people, so in the city you can see beautiful places of worship. Among them Holy Cross Cathedral, representing the independent Mukachevo diocese of the Greek Catholic Church. It was built in the first half of the 15th century in the Baroque style. The main façade has a triangular pediment with adjoining octagonal three-tier towers with chimes. The bell towers of the cathedral are made of stone and are installed on both towers.

Easy to spot among other buildings Goryanskaya rotunda of St. Anna.

It was attributed to the monuments of ancient Russian architecture of the XII century. It was made in the form of a hexagon with a wall thickness of 2-2.5 meters and at one time acted as a chapel of a fortified castle. Thanks to the frescoes of the 14th century, made by artists of the Giotto School of Art, popular in Italy, the walls look very beautiful. In addition, there are no analogues in terms of architectural parameters. Only two such rotundas are in Hungary.
