HOLIDAY PRICES:

Cost of a holiday in Sardinia. June 2014.

tour cost

Visas + insurance for two cost 120 euros. Ryanair bought tickets for the Vilnius-Rome-Vilnius flight online for 250 euros. From St. Petersburg to Vilnius by car and back 100 euros. We left the car with friends for free. From Rome, that is, from Civitavecchia, we traveled to Sardinia by ferry from the Saremar company. Tickets for it cost 150 euros. Apartments for 10 days - 360 euros, in an area called Isola Rossa, for 36 euros per day. It is more convenient to get around Sardinia by car. Car rental + gasoline - 250 +150 euros. The car was booked through the well-known Hertz. She was waiting for us at Olbia airport.

All excursions were carried out independently, in a rented car. There are not many attractions in the classical sense. But a lot beautiful places, beaches, etc. We went to most picturesque city called Castelcado. This is how you can see the ruins ancient castle and wander through the medieval streets of the center. In Santa Teresa wonderful beach overlooking Corsica. A liter of gasoline costs 1.4 euros. We spent about 150 euros on gasoline for 10 days.

Food and products

Prices depend on the distance to the beaches and main tourist routes. There are many chain stores where prices are two or even three times lower. Lunch in our understanding, that is, with a hot dish, in a bar or restaurant on the beach, without frills, cost about 20-25 euros per person. Breakfast from 5 to 10 euros. In supermarkets the prices are about the same as ours, or even higher, for example wines from 10 euros. In the cafe: Pizza - 10-12 euros. Beer - 3-4.5 euros. A cup of coffee - 1 euro. Sandwich - 3-5 euros. Sometimes we cooked ourselves, sometimes we went to a cafe. We spent about 50 euros a day on food.

Cost of services and entertainment

Umbrella on the beach - 8 euros for the whole day. Sun lounger - 10 euros. Scuba diving mask - 10 euros. It broke quickly, apparently Chinese. Catamaran on the beach - 10 euros per hour.

Impressions from a holiday in June

In June it was quite hot, the sea was quite warm, and there were noticeably fewer people on the beaches than in August. The roads are not congested, prices are lower than at the end of summer. In my opinion this is good time for relax.

Why is it better to vacation in September?

It seems to me that September is the ideal time for a holiday in Sardinia, if you do not depend on school holidays. It’s very warm, there are few tourists, housing prices are falling noticeably, there is a lot of local fruit and excellent wine.

Vacation with children

Sardinia has excellent beaches - clean, with good entry into the water and without strong waves near the shore. The island is noticeably inferior in terms of the number of children's entertainment Spanish resorts, but a lot interesting museums And historical places that are worth seeing at school age.

What to take with you on vacation?

Not prevent good guide, the island is worth a closer look at the less popular attractions. good sunscreen and comfortable shoes. Warm clothes if you are going to visit the caves.

Where is the best place to stay?

We have been to the island several times and visited most of the resorts, my favorites being Costa Smeralda in the north and the Maddalena archipelago. We went many times and with different budgets. Of the hotels, we liked the Colonna Resort hotel in the town of Porto Cervo the most - they have wonderful, clean pools and a good beach. Sardinia has a large selection of houses, villas, apartments at quite affordable prices, but it makes sense to rent a car - there are a lot of beaches, and it will definitely be interesting to drive along the coast. The Emerald Coast is located next to the airport in Olbia, getting there is easy and quick, in my opinion, this part of the island is more interesting than the south.

What to do at the resort?

First of all, of course, it’s worth visiting different beaches - in Sardinia they are amazingly beautiful, clean and quite different.

We liked the caves of Iz Zuddas - they are inferior in presentation to the caves in Mallorca, but still very impressive.

It makes sense to travel around small picturesque towns, go to restaurants. If you are interested in nuraghi, then there are interesting ones in both parts of the island; we were in Prisgiona - it’s a bit difficult with children, but still interesting. Almost every city has interesting ruins, churches, basilicas and fortresses. There is a good one in Olbia Archaeological Museum. If you have time and opportunity, then it’s worth getting to the Maddalena archipelago - it’s very beautiful there, on one of the islands there is the Garibaldi House Museum.

The beaches on the island (especially on the Costa Smeralda) are wonderful, it is very difficult to choose the best one, among the not the most popular, but very beautiful, I would like to mention the beaches near the village of La Conia (Barca Bruchata and Mannena) - there are several more of them, you can walk along small paths.

On the Spiaggia Bianca beach near Golfo Aranci we saw a school of dolphins several times.

The general impression of the beaches was very good, the sea was clean, there were almost no sea urchins, and there were no jellyfish at all. The bottom is very interesting, you can see octopuses and large fish close to the shore, the sand is fine and very pleasant. The sea is calm, entry into the water is convenient.

Sun loungers and umbrellas are available for rent almost everywhere, often not very new. There are often no showers on the beaches, and, in my opinion, there are not enough lifeguards.

One of the tangible disadvantages is the intrusive African traders, who are quite difficult to drive away.

Despite the fact that Sardinia is not a cheap resort, the prices did not seem wildly high to me. Liked the small shops in Porto Cervo, good selection women's clothing made of cotton in non-banal styles. There are many high-quality bags from brands that have not yet become an eyesore. Interesting choice of shoes. You can buy great products.

Where can I eat?

In Porto Cervo I liked Trattoria da Patrizia - there are a lot of locals here, the interior is simple, but really very tasty.

In the same city I liked the Accueil restaurant - it was delicious, good dishes and interior.

About the quality of food and service

Most of the restaurants were very tasty, only one was amazingly bad. It was the only one where almost all the seats were empty in the evening - apparently, notoriety spreads quickly. The staff is friendly, they don't shortchange you, and they serve you quickly.

How much does it cost to eat? About food prices.

At the Accueil restaurant, dinner for two with wine cost about 140 euros; you can eat for 50-60 euros for two. You can take pizza with you almost everywhere.

Entertainment

The entertainment intended for children was not particularly impressive. We went to the dinosaur park - it seemed quite boring, I liked the dinosaur museum in Switzerland in the canton of Zurich much more.

Driving through panoramic places along the coast, you can enjoy magnificent landscapes with an emerald-colored sea and bizarre granite rocks. The number of yachts here is also amazing. various models and sizes. And here and there the villas of the richest people, such as Silvio Berlusconi, Roman Abramovich, Alisher Usmanov and many others, are buried in the greenery of the Mediterranean vegetation.

The heart of the Costa Smeralda is the town of Porto Cervo.

The incongruous are combined here in an absolutely amazing way: seemingly simple mud huts in the Mediterranean style are found in boutiques of famous expensive brands such as Gucci, Valentino, Versace, Dolce&Gabbana and many others. In the Porto Cervo marina there is a luxurious yacht club, where oligarchs today moor their “ship masterpieces”. Well, in September...

Sardinia – extraordinary island, which is impossible not to fall in love with. Popular tourist site it became only in the 60s of the twentieth century. The island seemed to accumulate in itself the energy of the sun, earth and sea, historical events, achievements of various civilizations - so that those who set foot on this land now would be conquered and enchanted by these magical lands.

The name "Sardinia" has two recognized versions of origin.
The first says that the modern sound is a reduced Greek word "sandaliotis". It was the sandal that reminded the ancient Greeks of the shape of this island. According to legend, it was here that the Creator stepped onto earth, leaving his first mark.

The second goes back to the names of the ancient tribes of the Nuragic period: “Shardana” and “Shekelesh”. The Nuraghi dominated the region and even attacked Egypt, being leaders among the famous "peoples of the sea".

Some statistics. Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Area – 24,090 km2, length from north to south – 270 km, from east to west – 145 km. Population - 1,630,000 inhabitants, the capital of the autonomous region of Sardinia is Cagliari. There are 3 international airports - Cagliari, Olbia, Alghero - and 8 sea ferry ports.

The island has 1850 km of beaches, about 5300 hotels, more than 20 restaurants haute cuisine(2 of them are included in the Michelin guide), more than 600 estates and farms in agritourism. Sardinia ranks first in Italy for the number of beaches with the Blue Flag of the Foundation for Environmental Education and first in Europe for the number of centenarians.

According to archaeologists, the first settlements in this territory were formed in the distant times of the Neolithic era - about 150 thousand years BC. It is from this period that ancient structures that served as burial grounds - “enchanted houses” or “domus de hanas”, as local residents call them - date back. The stone structure symbolizes the doors that lead to the “enchanted world.” To the local population The role of the first winegrowers and shipbuilders of the region is attributed to that time.

By the 15th-7th centuries BC, a Nuraghi civilization had formed on the island, leaving behind numerous buildings in the form of truncated stone cones that have survived to this day. The purpose of these tower structures has not yet been deciphered by modern scientists.

The next period in the history of the island is the Phoenician. Around the 7th century BC, the Phoenicians founded the first port settlements in Sardinia, which served as the basis for the further development of the island. Then the island was captured by the Carthaginians, who reigned supreme here until the 3rd century AD, until they were ousted by the Great Roman Empire, with the fall of which the Vandals came to power. However, already in the 6th century they were expelled from Sardinia by the Byzantine Emperor Belisarius. Then the island fell into the hands of the Arabs, Spaniards, Austrians, and in 1861, the Kingdom of Sardinia joined the united state of Italy.

Such an abundance of cultures and peoples who ruled Sardinia at different times has left many magnificent historical and architectural monuments here.

Some background information on the Sardinia region:

Not far from the French island of Corsica, there is a picturesque Italian island– Sardinia, second in size to only one island in the Mediterranean Sea. The shape of the island resembles a sandal and, as legend says, this is due to the fact that it was in this place that the Creator first set foot on earth.

Thanks to this unusual shape, Sardinia got its name, which in old Greek sounds like “sandaliotis”. Although Sardinia does not have as many architectural monuments and cultural heritage as mainland Italy, the most influential Nuraghi civilization, which inhabited Sardinia 2000 BC, has asked many mysteries that remain unanswered to this day.

On the island there are watchtowers and acropolises built from huge stones, and they have stood for more than 25 centuries and will probably stand for as long. But no one knows how exactly these nuraghes were built.

In addition to the nuraghes, the island preserves the ruins of the fortresses of Genoa and Pisa, necropolises, acropolises, amphitheaters and other buildings: after the nuraghes, the island was inhabited by the Romans, Phoenicians, barbarians, Byzantines, Arabs, and Visigoths.

Sardinia is located west of the Apennine Peninsula and is separated from nearest island– Corsica – the blue waters of the Strait of Bonifacio. Sardinia is a very comfortable island regarding the climate. In winter there is +7...+10 degrees, and in July - on average +24...+26 degrees.

In winter, however, there is a large amount of precipitation - about 600-1000 mm. In addition, Sardinia is a mountainous island, and in the mountains there is much more rainfall. The highest mountain of the island, La Marmora, stretches up to 1834 m and is located in the Gennargentu mountain range.

The eastern part of the island is more mountainous, while the western part, on the contrary, is predominantly flat. In the southwest is the Iglesiente mountain range, which separates the Campidano lowland from Gennargentu. The mountains in the center of the island are composed mainly of crystalline schists and granite formations, in the northwest and west there are tuff and lava plateaus.

Sardinia has its own production - a large aluminum plant is located in Porto Vesme. Sardinia provides Italy and nearby European regions with sheep cheese, since the best producers of such cheese are concentrated here. Sardinia's GDP is approximately 2.2% of the GDP of all of Italy.

Local residents speak a dialect - Sardinian (regional for European Union), But Italian language is more common, so it is gradually replacing Sardinian. Hospitality is the main quality of the people of Sardinia. They are very kind, friendly and good-natured, very loyal to foreigners.

Every year, festivals are held in the villages and the city, where local residents demonstrate their skills in horse riding, dancing and singing - all accompanied by the unique triple clarinet. Participants are dressed in elegantly embroidered costumes, which are also made by local craftsmen - folklore traditions and handicraft production flourish on the island.
