Palm Jumeirah is an elite island in Dubai, UAE. Jumeirah, palm island in dubai

Do you remember the ad for a chocolate bar: a girl with a beautiful figure is basking near a palm tree against the backdrop of a turquoise sea and drinking coconut milk?.. Today we will talk about a place where you can not only feel paradisaic delight but also test the real feelings.

Palma - the "true" island

A small piece of land in the middle of the ocean created by an eruption underwater volcano, today immersed in green gardens of indescribable beauty. Palma has become famous for its special atmosphere, which is often noted by those who have been there. And if others Canary Islands attract tourists active species sports and relaxation on the impeccable shores, then Palma has its own magic.

Being surrounded by "living" inanimate nature, a person returns to his essence, remembers the soul. Perhaps that is why there are such conflicting reviews about Palma: it attracts some, it repels others, forever.

Have you already felt the power of attraction? Then welcome to the island of Palma! It occupies only 708 square kilometers, so we have no doubt that you will want to explore it all. And we anticipate the first question upon arrival.

Where to rent a car?

It can be rented directly at the airport, so do not rush to leave it. To do this, you need to have a driver's (international) license, a voucher and credit card. On this list required documents does not end, so we advise you to take care of the full package of documents in advance and book a car in advance. By the way, if you are under 21, the company may not give the car back. In some regions, the critical age reaches 23 years.

And finally, a couple of reminders about the rules traffic, which are highly recommended on the island of Palma:

  • Everyone must be allowed to pass at the pedestrian crossing. In this place, it is not customary for pedestrians to fear for the carelessness of the driver. In addition to people, goats, cats, dogs and rabbits can jump out onto the road. Be careful, especially at night!
  • overtaking cars on the right is not accepted;
  • want to overtake a car while in the leftmost lane? Turn on the left turn signal - they will understand you and give in;
    if you want to slow down, first put your hand to the left or turn on the left turn signal. So you warn about the stop following you. On mountain road with poor visibility before turning - horn;
  • yellow markings prohibit parking a car;
  • a fine for exceeding the speed limit by 20 km/h will be €100;
  • driving under the influence of alcohol can lead to imprisonment;
  • and lastly, representatives of the traffic police do not take bribes

Housing on about. Palm

Now let's talk about housing. What do you want: villa, hacienda, cottage or apartment?

Fazenda keeps within its walls long history. Sometimes she is two hundred years old. Cosy country house with gardens, a swimming pool and everything you need, will plunge you into complete peace and give you an unforgettable experience. Weekly rent will cost at least €300-400. The price may include cleaning, transfer to the airport, yacht rental and much more.

Apartments on the island Palma is promised no less comfortable rest, but directly in resort town, where, in addition to the pool and terrace, you can see the beach and bars-restaurants not far away. The cost is from €300.

Spacious villas will cost you €1000 per week. And for lovers of relaxation with an agricultural “tinge”, cottages are suitable: cozy small houses with a plot of land, a garden or a kitchen garden. You will have to pay €350 or more for them.

Separately, I want to talk about one unique hotel for adults. Have you ever wanted to spend a couple in a museum unforgettable days? The Hacienda de Abajo hotel offers to walk past the relics and feel like an exhibit in some sense. The history of the estate begins in the 16th century, but it was opened only in 2012 after a thorough restoration. This is probably why the price tag is quite acceptable: from €92 per night. The hotel is located in a quiet historical center resort town Tazacorte, surrounded by banana plantations and with great view to the Atlantic Ocean.

Beaches

There, in Tazacorte, there is forever sunny Beach on which gloomy clouds do not cast shadows even in winter. And at night along the coast, dozens of fishermen in boats wait for their catch. The light of the lamps, reflected in the dark water, and the male singing are mesmerizing! The table below shows a few more notable beaches.

Despite the small area of the island and our rather lyrical introduction, there is something for everyone here. But the priority, of course, are excursions. Here is just a short list of places to go and things to see...

Attractions

The main attraction of the island is its nature. And amazingly clean air. Since 2002, Palma has been recognized as a World Biosphere Reserve. About 35 percent of its area is covered with pine and laurel forests. Together with ferns, dragon trees and other species (and there are more than twenty of them), they form a "dome" that shelters ancient north islands. These are the "last of the Mohicans" forests, endangered representatives that for many years covered the south of Europe. Especially for lovers of romance and solitude, trails have been laid here, along which you can walk, “wrapped up” in fog and feeling the breath of wildlife.

A couple of steps from the central part of the city of Los Llanos, there is a good Botanical Garden. Not far from it is the Maroparque zoo with exotic birds and animals: pompous peacocks, fastidious toucans, slender herons, etc. sit in the aviaries.

Las Manchas has an original mosaic square of the Four Stones. Here they are buried in greenery small, but beautiful fountain, numerous gazebos and benches, as well as a stage for performances. It is convenient that the house-museum of wine was attached very close. Here you can taste and even buy the vaunted Canarian wines.

Be sure to visit the cactus garden on the way to El Paso. There are more than seven hundred exotic species there.

For museum lovers:

  • in the cigar museum you will get acquainted with the stages of making high-quality cigars, which are quite comparable in quality to Cuban ones;
  • in the silk museum you will see the process of production of silk products. When leaving, do not forget to buy something for yourself or as a souvenir;
  • There is also the only banana museum in the world on Palma, where you will be told in detail about the impact of a banana on the society and economy of the island. The fact is that this product is the most cultivated and exported

There are many scattered throughout the island. viewing platforms(free!), from where absolutely fantastic landscapes open up for every taste: the coast and cities, amazing sunsets and the vast ocean.

A well-known fact that we have no right not to mention is an astronomical observatory that studies the entire northern hemisphere of the planet. If you decide to visit this amazing place, do not forget to register in advance, and also bring warm clothes and comfortable shoes. The observatory is located on the high point islands: 2400 meters above sea level.

A couple of facts that were not included in the article:

  • Tenerife - for now the only island in the Canary Islands, with which there is an air international communication. Therefore, you will have to get to Palma "the old fashioned way", with transfers.
  • There is practically no crime in this place, life is measured and calm.
  • In addition to the forests on the Palm, you can admire the extensive heather fields.
  • Since scientists are monitoring our Universe around the clock, special lighting has been installed on the roads, which does not interfere with astrophysicists' work.
  • There are a few geographical names, which includes the word "Palm". Do not confuse them, so as not to be instead of the Canary Island of Palma, for example, Palma de Mallorca, which is on about. Majorca.
  • The average air temperature during the year is approximately 22-24 °C.
  • The palm tree is able to provide itself with vegetables and fruits. And the potato crop is harvested here four times a year.
  • There are not many places for tourists on the island - not a few: only seven thousand. So hurry up! ;)
  • Palma is known for producing delicious honey.

Leisure

In this regard, the opportunities on the island are no less than the number of attractions. Surprised? It seems what else you can do in a place surrounded by azure warm water under the gentle sun? Here's what:

  • diving or spearfishing. If you have already mastered scuba diving, it's time to get down to business smarter. True, there are many conditions for spearfishing to take place. First, not every fish can be caught. Secondly, not on every day and, thirdly, not in any place you like. In addition, prey cannot be sold, and there must be a license to fish. If these restrictions have discouraged you from hunting underwater, well, you can just go fishing. Catching a rich catch - no matter where you are: in a boat or under water - is always a pleasure. Or even easier: just go on a boat trip. Good too;
  • climbing or paragliding. And for this, and for another type of entertainment, there is everything you need here. By the way, the island of Palma is considered one of the most ideal places for free flights;
  • organize a real marathon or explore the route on foot, visiting ancient caves. You can use a mountain bike

Pay attention to the possibility of a tour of the acropark, which is located very close to the Refugio del Pilar. suspension bridges, cables and nets will dilute a relaxing holiday with vivid impressions.

Gastronomy

It's delicious everywhere. A little unusual - the influence of many national cultures: Spanish, European, Latin American, African and not only. The basis of the dishes is still fresh seafood of excellent quality and impeccable taste. Add to that excellent wine own production, amazing desserts and, as they say, "impossible to resist"! Prices in restaurants range from €10-15, with wine the amount increases to €50. By the way, dinner on Palma starts late and can drag on until midnight.

P.S.

Here it is, Palm Island, to which today we deservedly give the palm (no pun intended) among other islands canary archipelago. See you in Palma? ;)

Currently in the United United Arab Emirates there are many wonders created by architects and builders. In my articles I will talk about all the creations of man and not only, but first of all I want to talk about the Palm Islands. The Palm Islands are man-made islands that look like a palm tree from a bird's eye view. And there are three such islands: Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira.

This palm archipelago is located in the emirate. The purpose of creating such islands was to increase the coastline by 520 kilometers, which in turn would attract new tourists and investors.

All islands are made in the shape of a date palm, which is very revered in Islam. Each island has a crescent at the top, which acts as a breakwater and is also a Muslim symbol. In June 2001, they began to build the first Palm Island in Dubai - Jumeirah, consisting of a "trunk" with 17 branches, and the length of the breakwater - a crescent is 11 kilometers. The creation of this island took 7 million cubic meters of sand. The total area of this island is 25 square kilometers. 28 hotels will be built on the crescent. Also, 1400 villas, 20 buildings with 2500 apartments were built here. It is planned to build another 32 hotels. The main attraction of this island is the Atlantis complex, consisting of two pompous towers connected by a bridge. The total length of Jumeirah's beaches is 78 kilometers.

In October 2002, construction began on the second Palm Island in Dubai, Jebel Ali. The creation of this palm tree took 100 million cubic meters of sand and rock. Palm Jebel Ali larger than a palm tree Jumeirah and has a more exotic shape. It is planned that the main destination of this island will be the reception of tourists. 2,000 Polynesian-style bungalows and 2,000 individually designed houses will be built on the coastline. IN this moment work is underway to build infrastructure. Last but not least, it is planned to build residential buildings. It is planned to build a residential complex of concrete and glass, where the buildings will be in the form of yacht sails. The crescent of this island will host 4 theme parks.

In the fall of 2004, construction began on the third palm tree - Deira. This is the most big Island out of all three. It will take 1 billion cubic meters of sand and rock to create it. By the way, all materials for all palm trees are mined in the UAE. When completed, this island will be the largest man-made island in human history, with one million permanent residents. Construction is planned to be completed by 2015, but most likely this date will have to be postponed for several years, too large volumes and costs. The area of this island is 112 square kilometers and it represents the most exotic palm tree, which has a massive "trunk" and 41 branches.

During the construction of palm trees, a huge number of problems arose and arise, and not only of a financial nature. According to environmentalists, the construction of breakwaters, which prevent the movement of aquatic inhabitants, causes great harm to the ocean environment. These barriers are already causing water stagnation, and with the appearance of inhabitants on the islands, the problem of pollution of the bay will become even more acute. But this is only the “tip of the iceberg” of the consequences of the construction of the islands. All construction is planned to be completed by 2015. And only then will we know whether this huge construction site will turn into a corner of paradise for millions of lucky people.

81 things to do in Dubai

The island, created by human hands, is a triumph of engineering and a vivid symbol of the country's wealth.

Palm Jumeirah ( Palm Jumeirah) is an island wonder of the world created by human hands. An artificial island that repeats the shape of a palm tree with sixteen symmetrical "leaves", where expensive villas, hotels, a water park and many kilometers of beaches are located, is a direct proof of the greatness of the Emirate. It is worth visiting here if only to appreciate what science, progress and money are capable of.

The man-made archipelago of Palm Jumeirah is small compared to its two sisters - Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira - but the first of its kind, and is a famous symbol of the United Arab Emirates along with the Sail Hotel (Burj Al Arab) and Burj Khalifa .

History of creation

In 2001, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashi al Maktoum decided to expand the coastline and create a paradise resort in the waters of the Persian Gulf, without using concrete and metal structures. At first, creating a structure that resisted waves and storms, using only sand and boulders, seemed an impossible task, but they were not going to retreat.

The construction of Palm Island has begun. Five kilometers of breakwater appeared, designed to protect the island from the Shamil storm. Then the construction of the island itself began, “leaf” after “leaf” - slowly and with difficulty appeared huge island.

An additional complication was created by the fact that the sand of the Arabian deserts was not suitable for construction - it is too small and easily washed out. Therefore, tons of sand had to be extracted with enormous efforts from the bottom of the Persian Gulf and delivered to the coast. This same sand and stones used in the construction would be enough to build a 2.5 meter wall around the globe.

After 5 years, human talent, perseverance and science won. Palm Island was ready to receive residents as early as 2006. Luxurious villas and hotels took their place on the "leaves". On the trunk of a palm tree there are restaurants, parks, shopping and entertainment complexes, water parks, and beach clubs. Three months later, an amazing coral reef with two F-100s sunk to attract divers and bolster the island's defenses barrier reef.

The breakwater of the Palm Jumeirah reaches three meters in height and eleven and a half meters in length.
The size of the Palm Jumeirah reaches 5.72 km².
Houses and villas were sold out in a record three days (the buyers were celebrities who want to retire to a paradise island).
Palm Island cost $7 billion to build.
Palm Jumeirah is visible from space with the naked eye (along with the Chinese wall).

The other side of luxury

Despite the grandeur and beauty of the island, environmentalists were not too happy about such changes in the flora and fauna of the Persian Gulf. After all, such changes are undoubtedly fraught with consequences. The authorities responded to numerous demands to secure marine life and built up part of the coast with artificial reefs, in addition, they promised that soon it was planned to transfer the “palm trees” to environmentally friendly energy sources so as not to pollute environment.

Stagnation of water in the bays of the archipelago remained a significant problem. The breakwater is vital for protection, but it certainly interferes with water renewal. Despite attempts to cope with this problem, a visible result has not yet been achieved.

Last but not least is durability. How long can such a huge, but, oddly enough, fragile Palm Jumeirah Island be able to stand under climate change, rising water levels and raging waves that wash sand right from under their feet? The creators of the projects reassure investors that there is nothing to worry about in the next 800 years, and you can safely acquire a piece of heaven on earth.

How to get there

You can get to Palm Jumeirah by taking a taxi, renting a car, or riding the monorail overpass (the first monorail in the Middle East).

Guest June 30, 2018Everything is very open with a really clear description of the issues. It was definitely informative. Your website is extremely helpful. Thanks for sharing!

Guest March 10, 2018They were there just yesterday. This is truly a miracle. Paradise on earth (or water). It is worth working all year to go there at least once. Well done Arabs, they are worthily building the economy of their country. Our "developers" should go there more often for training.

Guest January 15, 2018They say there are no miracles! Isn't Dubai amazing? Aren't artificial islands a miracle? And the fact that we, at least through the Internet, can see this is not a miracle!!! You never cease to be amazed at the strength of human thought, perseverance, and the achievements of science and technology. How I would like to preserve this beauty for many generations!

More recently, the Arab Emirates were known to the world for their deserts and the presence of such valuable raw materials as oil. But some time passed and everything changed. Now everyone is fascinated by the images of Arab beauties and secretly dreams of getting there, seeing these cosmic wonders with their own eyes, and world celebrities and tycoons are fighting for every square meter in Dubai. The reason for everything is the gigantic buildings of indescribable beauty. All the largest that is on our planet (fountains, hotels, towers, parks) is located in the UAE. Artificial islands in the shape of date palms on the coast of the Persian Gulf - Jebel Ali, Jumeirah and Deira.

Palm Jumeirah in the UAE is located in the Dubai Marina area, see how it is located on the map relative to other artificial islands:

Sorry, the map is temporarily unavailable

The construction of Jumeirah Palm began in 2001. A dozen and a half thousand builders were involved in the work, who also lived there. Work did not stop for a minute, shift after shift, day after day, month after month, and in 2006 the island was ready. The material used was stone and sand, which was mined from the bottom of the bay. The whole island consists of the main trunk and 17 palm leaves. A crescent moon was also built around the palm tree - a symbol of all Muslims, which also serves as a breakwater and protects the island from high waves and storms, its length is 11 km. Thus, total area Jumeirah is over 25 sq. km., which is equal to 800 football fields.

After the work on the island was completed, the architects began building up the territory. Soon chic villas, hotels, shopping centers not to mention palm trees and other plants. Most of the Palm Jumeirah real estate has already been sold and occupied. The architecture is made in different styles: from Arabic to European.

Atlantis The Palm is the most luxurious hotel in the world.

Jumeirah Island is actually a peninsula, since it is connected to the mainland by a 300 m long bridge. A tunnel under water was built so that the inhabitants of the island could quickly move around the territory. And for the implementation transport communication Jumeirah with the mainland built a monorail.

The scale of the island is so large that you can even see it from space.

Dubai - amazing place in the middle of the desert, in which achievements scientific and technological progress XXI century intertwined with ancient culture. One of the emirate's most ambitious projects is artificial islands.

The Palm Islands are an archipelago of man-made islands on Earth. Between the islands there are also artificial archipelagos "Mir" and "Universe" of small islands. All this creation can be seen from the moon with the naked eye.

Let's start with the palm islands. They are located in the UAE, in the emirate of Dubai. The archipelago includes three major islands, each having the shape of a palm tree.

The Palm Jumeirah is the smallest and most original of the three islands. This is the first palm island and a great achievement in the history of world architecture. The construction of the island began in June 2001, in 2006 it was handed over for development.

It consists of a trunk, 16 leaves, and a crescent that surrounds the island and forms an 11 km long breakwater. Diameter - 6 km. "Crescent" is a barrier that surrounds and protects the "Palma" from sea waves. It has hotels.

For example, the Atlantis Hotel is located here - one of the most interesting, sought-after and controversial hotels in the Emirates.

Under construction:

Almost like a mirage

Night view of the Atlantis Hotel:

The "crown" of Palma consists of 17 "branches" - microdistricts, rushing into the sea. On the branches there are exclusive villas that differ in size and design:

Residential areas include about 8,000 two-story mansions. 2007:

"The Trunk" (The Trunk) is central part Palm trees, where there are parks, shopping centers, restaurants and high-rise residential buildings.

Construction of the central part - the "trunk":

The size of the island is 5 kilometers by 5 kilometers and its total area is more than 800 football fields. The island is connected to the mainland by a 300-meter bridge, and the crescent is connected to the top of the palm tree. underwater tunnel. The Palm Jameirah is valued at approximately $14 billion.

Construction started in October 2002:

This is how the island was supposed to look according to the project:

Bulk artificial island handed over for construction at the end of 2007. It is 50% larger than Jumeirah. More than 1,000 bungalows based on piles in the Polynesian style are planned to be built along the coastline:

But not everything is so rosy here: at present, due to low demand for real estate, most construction work on the Palm Jebel Ali is temporarily suspended.

This is the largest artificial island of the trio. Its construction began in November 2004.

Few numbers. Deira will be 8 times the size of the Palm Jumeirah and 5 times the size of the Palm Jebel Ali. The distance from the coast to the top of the "crescent" is 14 km, the width of Palma is 8.5 km. The branches of the Palm will vary in length and will be 400-850 apart. The crescent with a total length of 21 kilometers will be the largest breakwater in the world.

It is interesting to observe the process of building an artificial island:

Palm Deira will be built at a depth of 5 to 22 meters.

The creation of a "trunk", 41 branches and a protective crescent will take a billion cubic meters of stones and sand. The length of the branches varies, the distance between them will be from 840 to 3,340 meters.

Once completed, Palm Deira will become the largest man-made island in human history, which will serve as a habitat for 1 million people. Fully work is planned to be completed by 2015, although this date is not final.

A few photos of what Palm Deira will look like:

As you can see on the map, between the Palms there are also artificial archipelagos "World" and "Universe" from small islands.

This is an artificial archipelago, consisting of several islands, with a general shape resembling the continents of the Earth (hence the name - "World"). It is located 4 kilometers from the coastline of Dubai.

The artificial islands in the Mir archipelago are made mainly from the sand of Dubai's shallow coastal waters. It was difficult to find a place for this project, because coastline already occupied by the Palm Islands. Then it was decided to build islands 4 km from the coast.

Construction of artificial islands. Sand was dredged from the bottom of the Persian Gulf and sprayed over the construction site to create islands:

The total area of the Mir archipelago is 55 sq. km. That makes him largest artificial archipelago in the world. The size of the islands is from 14 thousand to 83 thousand square meters, the width of the straits between them is from 50 to 100 meters with a depth of up to 16 meters.

"Mir" is connected to the mainland only by water and by air. From big waves The islands are protected by an artificially erected breakwater:

In April 2004, the first island, dubbed Dubai, emerges from the water. Unlike the Palm Islands, the Mir archipelago is not connected to the continent and there are no bridges. All building materials were shipped by sea.

Breakwater erection:

By May 2005, 15 million tons of rock had been dumped into the bay.

In the future, the archipelago is planned to be enlarged by the creation of new islands under the Universe project (see map above).

Will artificial islands be washed away? The Mir archipelago, despite the fact that it is completely surrounded by water, is designed very reliably - artificial islands can hide under water no earlier than in 900-4,000 years, reports Arabian Business.

The most luxurious houses on the planet will be located on the islands of the Mir archipelago. Not everyone can buy an island: the Nakheel developer itself sends out invitations (50 pieces a year) to the wealthy elite.

The price of one island reaches 38 million dollars and varies depending on the location, size, and proximity to other islands.

Access to all 300 islands will be by sea or by air, regular ferries, as well as private yachts and boats.

Russian moneybags have already bought up all of "Russia" - one of the most large archipelagos in the world. The representative of the developer Hamza Mustafal says that one Russian developer bought two "Russian" islands at once - "Rostov" and "Yekaterinburg". The island "Siberia" was bought by an unnamed Russian woman who is going to sell it in parts.

According to the plans of the creators, the Mir archipelago will become an elite community, which will consist of the chosen inhabitants of the Earth, service personnel and tourists, total number which will not exceed 200,000 people.
