Beach holidays on the island of Koh Kut

Koh Kut is an island, 80% hotel. All basic infrastructure, respectively, is located at the hotels. Hotels scattered along west coast centered on Klong Chao Beach, where the "public" life of the island is concentrated. The best part about Ko Kut is that almost all the beaches are not crowded (at least at the time of this writing), because. the island is large, and there are few hotels on the island.

There are no banks and ATMs on the island, credit cards only large hotels accept (stock up on cash). The beaches are white, with absolutely hedonistic beach areas and terraces equipped with hotels. The format of hotel housing is mainly beach bungalows. Rest here is heavenly, but be prepared for the fact that, like on any “hotel” island with a minimum of competition, there is a quality and price level of offers for bungalows, food, motorbikes, day tours and so on the island of Koh Kood will be higher than the average for Thailand.

Kayaking on the Khlong Jao River

Kayaking on the Khlong Jao River is perhaps one of the better ways get acquainted with the wildlife of the island. Two options are available - either you get on foot / by motorbike to the Klong Chao waterfall, rent kayaks from local guesthouses and go kayaking down to the ocean, or from Klong Chao beach up to the waterfall. Klong Chao - a picturesque cascading waterfall, this is the most big waterfall islands, with a fairly large pool where you can swim.

Ancient trees of Koh Kut

One can write poems about the tropical forest of Koh Kut, which covers most of the island - it is beautiful. Some especially ancient, large and beautiful trees have received names and status of local attractions. You can get to them on a motorbike, part of the way you have to walk through the jungle) If you decide on an adventure and go looking for the ancient trees of the island, stock up on water, a map and focus on road signs and Makayuk-Saiyai signs.

I continue my story about a trip to the island of Koh Kut (someone calls it Koh Kood or coconut lagoon). In this article I will tell you about my impressions and show you a lot of photos.

About the island Ko Kut one of our readers already wrote, you can read this story here - so I won’t tell you a lot, but I’ll show more photos.

How to get to the island on my own from Pattaya, I wrote in an article -.

Many who have visited this island personify it with a paradise place. Clear water, white sand, a lot of greenery, palm trees, in a word, a tropical paradise.

In general, they are right, but this place cannot be called the best in Thailand. Some beaches here are much worse than on the island, and there is no such sand as on the island at all on any beach. But to visit here is definitely worth it, at least for the sake of comparison with other places. Moreover, people and tastes are different.
I liked the island itself for its nature, carelessness, calmness, the feeling that time has stopped, the day lasts so long that sometimes I even wanted it to end quickly (I wanted people :)).

I lived in the beach area bangbao, there are only 3 hotels in this place, the place is quiet but you can see people. The beach is not bad, but you can find better. In the photo below are several photos of hotels and beaches in the area bangbao. Prices for bungalows on the island of Koh Kut, in this area, vary from 1800 and up, cheaper only if without air conditioning and not on the beach.

A road has been laid almost around the entire island, so you can safely rent a motorbike and ride it up and down. But be careful, the road is not the safest. The price of a motorbike on Koh Kood for a day is 350 baht, you can usually rent it right at the hotel.

Not far from the beach Bang Bao is the beach Ao Prao, usually people are brought here who came with a tour, so there are a lot of Russians here, probably 100% of the guests. The grounds and the beach look pretty good. There are many Russian signs, inscriptions, etc. on the territory.

Of all the beaches I saw, I liked it, the cleanest sea, white sand, excellent coastline, not far from the road.

In this coastline there is a great hotel, Tinkerbell Privacy Resort, the hotel is expensive, but the view from the room and the beach is worth it. In general Ko Kut fairy island, there are hotels Peter Pan, Captain Hook, etc. everything is like in a fairy tale about Peter Pan :).

The best hotel on the island is Soneva Kiri By Six Senses, the price per room is almost $2,300 per night! I don't think comments are needed.

What you can see on the sharp Koh Kood

There are several waterfalls, an observation deck and one more place that I don’t even advise you to visit, it is located in the center of the island, I forgot the name, I’ll show it in the photo.

Observation deck, view as in the photo below.

Waterfall Klong Jao, made a video, the sight is not impressive, but you can see.

And here is the same Hevea tree from which latex is obtained.

Photos of Koh Kut

Well, a few other photos also taken on the island, don't kick too hard, you know I'm not a photographer :).

Well, perhaps that's all ...

The Koh Kood Island Guide will help you get ready from start to finish for your trip. We explored Koh Kood, visited all the beaches, collected up-to-date information and, most importantly, about Koh Kood together. Important features of the island and the main nuances of the trip.

Koh Kood is the least populated and calm island in Thailand

Overview of Koh Kood

Koot Island is in Gulf of Thailand 35 km from the mainland. Koh Kood is the furthest island Eastern Thailand, it is located 350 km from Bangkok almost on the border with Cambodia.

Koh Kood in Thailand is the fourth largest island, after such major islands, like , and .

Most The islands are covered with forests, and on the coast there are numerous palm plantations. East End the islands are uninhabited except for two fishing villages. All beaches and hotels are on the west side. An asphalt road is laid across the entire island from north to south, connecting all the beaches.

Season on Koh Kood and when is the best time to go

The official season runs from November to May. But in fact, in November it is still rainy, in December and January it is cold, in April there are low tides during the day, and in May the weather is already deteriorating. It turns out that the season on Ko Kood is quite short. The best time to travel is from February to mid-March. December, January, February, March and April best months. But in April and May, the tides are already strongly pronounced. Keep in mind also that the weather in Thailand is now changing and the seasons are shifting, so it is impossible to predict the weather with accuracy. We went to the island at the beginning of April and it was cloudy and rainy every day, despite the fact that April is considered the hottest and driest month in Thailand.

How to get there

The most convenient way to get from Bangkok and Pattaya is by group transfer or taxi. First 5 hours by bus to the city of Trat, then an hour and a half by ship. The entire route takes about half a day. We left at 6 am, at 3 pm already at the hotel on the island. Also from Bangkok you can fly to the city of Trat by plane, then take a transfer to the island. Where to stay and which hotel to choose

All hotels are good. Moreover, there are very inexpensive guesthouses up to 1000 baht ($ 30), the average level is 2-4 thousand with their own beach, as well as resorts of 4-5 stars. We stayed in a hotel on Tapao beach and were very pleased with our choice. We recommend booking in advance as best hotels sell out quickly. To understand where to stay, you should first of all decide on the beach. Our articles will help you with this:

What to expect from a holiday in Koh Kood

Koh Kood is a huge tropical island. Most often travelers come here from Bangkok, Pattaya, and also from Cambodia. It is worth taking a closer look at Koot Island for couples who are looking for a secluded and measured rest on the most uncrowded beaches in Thailand.

For families with small children, this direction is also suitable, since there are no waves on the beaches, it is very shallow. But only if the child normally tolerates a long journey. We saw vacationers with children, but the bare minimum.

This is how it will look like

Koot Island is interesting not so much for its beaches, but as a pristine and uncharted island. Here tall palm trees wild nature, waterfalls, jungle. Snakes are more common than on other islands. They can crawl right across the road or on the side of the road in the bushes. Due to these features, Kood Island in Thailand is so unique.

Beaches on Koh Kood

The beaches are not the best in Thailand. Contrary to popular belief. Naturally, if you come from Pattaya or Koh Chang to Ko Kut, then it will 100% make an indelible impression, and the beaches will seem the best in the world!

But experienced traveler who has visited such Thai islands as the beaches of Ko Kuda are not very impressive. Of course, the beaches are beautiful. Tall thin palm trees, giving a special charm to the coastline, mountain views from the sea, all this looks very exotic, but not ideal.

We explored all the beaches and made a small review of each in the blog.

  • Read:

If you want to know our opinion, as people who have visited more than, then Ko Kut is far from the best in terms of beaches. best island. We rate beaches by the ratio beautiful views, the color and transparency of the water, the quality of the sand, the ease of entry into the water, accessibility and infrastructure.

Perhaps it will be difficult for someone to believe in it, but even better (long distance, of course). We were just before Kud on Samet. There we could swim for 4-5 hours in turquoise water and fully enjoy swimming in the sea. But this did not happen here, they swam without much pleasure and mainly to freshen up after a busy day on the move.

Also not on Koh Kood white sand on the beaches. Except Klong Chao and Ao Takian beach. Everywhere it is yellow, on some beaches it is light gray. But in general, the sand is pleasant for feet, not loose, and does not interfere with barefoot walks along the coast.

Sea on Koh Kood

As for the sea, the water is transparent everywhere and the waves in high season No. It is worth noting that there is no bright blue water anywhere on Koh Kood, except for one beach. This is where we broke away and bought ourselves. I don't know about you, but we are transparent blue water expect to see on the islands. On Ko Kood, on all beaches, the water is bluish, blue or greenish. The color is nice, but even on the water is brighter.

Shallow and ebbs

Almost any beach is quite shallow. You can swim at high tide, but if you are in the low tide season, you will have to swim in shallow water or paddle 200 meters knee-deep in water to a depth. We used to think that there were strong low tides on Koh Phangan. For example, a photo of the beach of the Dusita hotel.

What to see on Koh Kude

The attractions of Koh Kuda are its beaches. What else is interesting on the island:

  • Trekking through the forest to the rocks that look like ships
  • Ao Salad fishing village and Golden Buddha statue

Where to eat and prices in restaurants

There are no problems with nutrition. The prices are adequate, on average 150-200 baht ($5-7) per dish. Our average bill for a dinner for two with drinks is 500 baht ($15). This is no more expensive than beach cafes in other Thai resorts. But there are some features. For example, many cafes open only from 5-6 pm. We recommend eating at trusted places with positive feedback. For more information on nutrition, see our article:

Shops and markets

There is not a single chain supermarket like 7-Eleven, Tesco, Big C, Makro on the island. Just like there are no usual Thai markets and skewers with kebabs. There are 1-2 small shops in each village on the main road. There is a choice, the prices for most goods are practically not overpriced.

Features of Koh Kood Island

Interesting and unusual details.

  • Koh Kood is considered the most palm island, but few people know that palm trees are not real. That is, they did not grow up here themselves, but forests were cut down and palm plantations were planted. If you look at Koh Kut from above, you can see that all the palm trees are planted in clear rows, as if on a ruler. If people had not been doing this many years ago, then Ko Kut would not have been the most palm island in the country. But this was done, of course, not for the sake of tourism, but for agricultural purposes.

  • Coconuts are brought from the mainland (here you are coconut island). This is probably why they cost 2 times more (80-100 baht). Why not pluck coconuts from your palm trees? Unclear. Coconuts hang in clusters of 30-40 on each palm tree, many already rotten.
  • There are no palm trees in the center of the island, ordinary trees are everywhere. Palm trees for the most part only on the shore.
  • Lots of fruit shops. Mango - 50-60 baht per piece, Pineapple 30-40 baht.
  • As many as two ATMs, if you suddenly ran out of cash (near the stadium and on Klong Chao).
  • Many dogs. At night, packs of dogs howl like wolves.

  • Signs are hung everywhere - take care of your head, a coconut may fall. Coconuts are cut off on the territory of hotels, but a step to the side and bunches are already hanging there.
  • The road runs deep into the island, on the sides of the trees and deciduous forests, not palm trees. But approaching beach area, you find whole groves of tall palm trees.

  • Nothing to do without a bike. Distances are huge public transport and there are no taxis, you can easily become a hostage of your beach and not get to another one. Read.
  • Most of the beaches are very shallow, low tides every day and at different times.
  • No viewing platforms. Only a couple of points, the view from which is very mediocre.
  • Koh Kood is really an island of snakes. One small snake was almost stepped on near the waterfall. Large snakes were seen a couple of times, one of these "crossed" the road in front of us, the other lay on the side of the road and slipped into the bushes. It's scary to imagine how many of them are in the grass in palm groves. Walk on the roads.

  • We also saw flying squirrels, toka geckos, stingrays not far from the coast, jellyfish, and frogs. Frogs have suction cup feet and can not only jump, but also crawl along walls.

  • There are many permanent Europeans living on the island. They own restaurants and bars or work in them as western staff. In one cafe we even met Russian waiters.
  • In hotels and restaurants, everyone sincerely smiles and is more friendly than in Pattaya.
  • There are many mangroves on the island. The roots of the trees are bare and stick out of the water at low tide.

  • Lots of mosquitoes. They are activated by 4 pm.
  • Most of the beaches are long and most often similar to each other. There are no small cozy coves.
  • Many beaches are inconvenient to get to. Will have to roll with main road and go a couple of kilometers on the dirt road. But the views are beautiful.
  • All beaches have a pier or a board bridge.
  • There are no speedboats on the beaches. You can swim freely and not turn around every 5 minutes. A big rarity in Thailand.
  • There are no jet skis, bananas and parachutes. At best, kayak rentals.
  • There are no beach vendors.
  • There are no beach discos and fire shows.
  • There are private beaches. We were surprised. There are no people anyway, and they still do not let outside tourists through. Somehow it’s not very pleasant, but there’s nothing to be done, you turn around and leave for a free beach. We were not allowed to enter two such beaches. On the third, they quietly passed unnoticed.
  • Almost on all the beaches belonging to some hotel, moving a little to the side along the coast, a garbage dump begins. There are heaps of natural and not only garbage on the sand. Nobody cleans up the garbage and thus spoil the image of their hotel.

Koh Kood Thailand and garbage on wild beaches

  • There are many slums and devastation on the island, a large number of poverty and neglect. Sheds from what horrible and around the mountain of garbage. And all this is often right behind the hotel wall.

  • There are no construction sites on the island. As if all hotels and cafes have been built for a long time, and new ones are not expected. Peace and quiet.
  • The main entertainments on Koh Kood are: watching beaches and waterfalls, riding a motorbike, kayaking, going fishing, trying diving, snorkeling near the rocks.
  • Great sunsets. I was pleased that even with a little cloudiness, the sunset most often still manifests itself.

Koh Kood reviews

Summing up, we can say that Koh Kood is interesting in terms of nature, as well as recreation in an island unspoiled by mass tourism. The beaches are not, of course, but suitable for most tourists. Especially those who prefer a very quiet secluded vacation and almost deserted beaches. Or those who do not particularly bother with the beaches, the quality of the sea, the bottom and other things, but just to swim in clean water, and only.

It's important not to overestimate. Koh Kut is not the best island in Thailand. Phi Phi, Phangan, Koh Samet better Where. It is not necessary to put it on the "must see" list. But it has its own charm and advantages, for which it would be nice to get here someday. What are the wide deserted beaches. The right choice will combine Kut with other islands and .

On Koh Kood in Thailand, you need to allocate at least 4 days. A better week. It makes no sense to trudge far away to the border with for 2 days. For a couple of days it is better to go to Koh Samet, which is much closer and in terms of beach holiday you will win, you will only have to sacrifice nature and waterfalls.

We lived on the island for 8 days and this period was enough for us to rest in our hotel and explore the island, explore new beaches, waterfalls and other interesting places. Was not bored, could easily stay for 2 weeks or even a month.

Kood Island on the map

Map of all beaches and other points of interest.

Koh Kut (or Koh Kood) is an island in the Gulf of Thailand, which is located near Cambodia. Administratively, it belongs to the province of Trat. Together with Mak Island (which is located to the north) and some uninhabited islands amphe Ko Kut (territorial unit) is the smallest amphe in Thailand in terms of the number of people living. A little over 1,700 people live in Kuta. In total, on the island with an area of about 130 sq. km. - six villages.
Like other amphe islands, Koh Kut is part of the sea national park Mu Ko Chang. The island is about 17 kilometers long and about 7.5 kilometers wide (at its widest point). Mak Island is about 5 kilometers away, and land is about 25 kilometers away.

One can easily declare Ko Kut the most beautiful island in Thailand. He's really just breathtakingly handsome.

Koh Kut is quite a large, mountainous island, its central part largely covered by jungle. Western and South coast dotted with glorious white sand beaches. The waters surrounding the island are crystal clear. I think heaven should look like this.

There is an excellent road running through the island - from Ao Salad in the north to Ao Yai in the south, so that almost all hotels can be reached along this road (although expensive and flat, in general, sometimes quite hilly and broken in places).

Koh Kut, first of all, mostly visited organized tours, although in last years here come "individual" tourists. To move around the island, rent a motorbike or bike or ride a songthaew (songthaew, mini-truck), although this transport is a bit more tiring to explore the beaches and beauties of the island, but believe me, it's worth the effort.

There will be no problems with accommodation on the island. Budget options plenty - check out the hotels behind Khlong Chao Beach. But certainly not a beach bungalow for 250 baht. If you still want to live right on the beach, you will have to pay, maybe a little more, but that's the point - to live on the beach, in this little paradise. Hotels here, in general, are still inexpensive “bedrooms” for tourist groups, although for those who are used to spending more and living with more comfort, there are very pleasant places on the island.

Can recommend the bungalow at the top of the hill, complex "Duplex Bungalows", - amazing value for money, plus a magnificent sea view from the terrace.

Most of the eateries, cafes, bars and shops of tourist interest are in the Khlong Chao area, but most hotels have their own restaurant, so this shouldn't be a problem. Ko Kut - definitely not party place. Nightlife not here - although, several places on the island (bars, I mean) are open until late, although there are not very many people there, and it is likely that you will sit there in splendid isolation. That's not what people come here for, though.

Like most neighboring islands, Ko Kut is a seasonal place. And, although many hotels have been open all year round in recent years, most cafes, restaurants and bars are closed. Besides, why go there at this time? The weather may not please at all - the terrible monsoons from May to October can spoil the whole impression of a paradise island.

In the high season, and especially at Christmas, New Year and Songkran (Thai New Year, April 13-April 19), the island gets very busy - it's better to book a hotel in advance for these weeks if you don't want to wander around the island from bungalow to bungalow in search of free accommodation.

By the way, as far as I know, there are no ATMs on the island (although maybe you can still pay with a card in hotels), so come with cash so as not to get into a mess.

Internet access via 3G is quite possible, although also with some difficulties. Some hotels have free wifi, but, unfortunately, often it simply does not work there. There is an internet cafe north side Klong Chao at the Tourist Office.

Southern beaches (Ao Jak, Ao Phrao and Khlong Hin) are, first of all, popular with Russian tourist groups from Pattaya. And in general, there is a completely different atmosphere than on other beaches on the island. Many European tourists, by the way, they write with horror about the fact that "Russians are wandering around with vodka and cigarettes." Nothing surprising!

Well, walking around the island is a pleasure: massive jungle, unrealistic waterfalls (although very frail in April), amazing good beaches and clear sea. You can try massages at hotel spas.

Visit Happy days restaurant- there you can taste german beer and really good thai food. You can go to Pizza & Pasta restaurant, one kilometer north of Klong Chao. At the restaurant Chiang Mai They serve Thai food in very large plates and it's all very cheap! There is also a very nice restaurant. "Bartist" on the way to the waterfalls in the same area and several good restaurants along the Klong Chao River, in principle, in any of them you can try the "correct" Thai cuisine. Oh yes, take a look The Peter Pan Bar- a bar with a good atmosphere, calm visitors (see, Russians don't go there) and cool music.

Tawan Eco Bar- this is a real breakthrough!
Drinks, food and music are all organized by the owner. If you know how to play musical instrument, then you will probably end up playing with him - that's how cool it is there.

In addition, around the island you can go kayaking and boating, climb mountains, admire waterfalls and lagoons, where you can hide from the sweltering heat.

And, of course, snorkeling and diving - the island can definitely boast of underwater landscapes and fish and corals!
And in general, the water here is cleaner than, say, on Koh Chang (and the beaches are also cleaner and better). With the exception of Ngam Kho - this beach is so-so.

And here bangbao- perhaps the most best beach.
Spacious, clean, with white sand. There are three hotels on this beach, all pretty good. Of which at Siam Beach Hotel resort beach coolest and most comfortable.

Ao Baan Chao (Jao) (Ao Baan Chao) suitable for people who prefer to use a variety of services during their holidays, and housing here is cheaper. The island's two most famous resorts, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, are also not very expensive.
