Along the shore of the Kazantip Bay, we jumped out to the village of Mysovoye (formerly Kazantip), which is located on an isthmus at the base of Cape Kazantip, deeply protruding into the Sea of \u200b\u200bAzov, separating the Arabat and Kazantip bays.
A two-year-old report inspired me to look into this godforsaken corner of Crimea sergeydolya .
Consider especially the beauties of this strangest reserved place we didn’t have time, especially since it had to be done with feeling, sense and alignment, and most importantly on foot. But out of the corner of my eye I still wanted to look at the basin of the ancient coral "atoll" for a number of reasons...

So, following the field road along the coast of the Kazantip Bay, we were separated from the sea by bushes, and a little later by fences of some recreation centers. Having entered the village of Mysovoye, it was time to become attached and look around, and look after one for a place to spend the night.
For this we went to the beach. Even climbing the sandy coastal rampart, we, already weaned from civilization, saw a picture familiar to a seaside village.

Cars, beach goers, sand, sun (which has gone hazy), blue sea and sky

Leaving the car, we went to see how the resting people live here.
There was a kite surfer station YOHOHO located nearby. Once the Kazantip Bay was the capital of this sport, but later the main activity moved to the area of the village of Mezhvodnoye in Western Crimea. It seems to me that the winds will be stronger there, although here the north wind from the sea later caused us problems with setting up a tent

There were not many people on the beach, the cool cloudy weather affected. Only a couple of athletes rode kites
This corner of the Kazantip Bay was named Tatarskaya Bay. According to legend, stone baths once stood here in which the local Tatar murza and his household washed. The water here in the summer in calm weather warms up to forty degrees.

To the north one could see the sprawling mass of Cape Kazantip with outcrops of bryozoan limestones.

And to the east, in a giant arc towards the Karalar steppe, endless sandy beaches Kazantip Bay.
Vacationers did what they could, but mostly contemplated the water and drank beer

Near the beach is Children's health Camp"Helicopter" of the Moscow Helicopter Plant. M.L.Milya

We get into the car and drive to the village in order to find the entrance to the inner part of the basin of Cape Kazantip.
On the left is the boarding house "Terra-Teana", built on the former football field of the DOL "Helicopter". In front of the boarding house, a billboard of the YOHOHO kite school, faded from time, with a portrait of Ilyich and a famous quote about "Study, study ..."

Asphalt has never been here. The old Moskvich-2140 AZLK, already a rarity, briskly runs through the potholes, and the Russian flag flies over the fence

The only five-story Soviet-built building in the village. It was never completed. Near the swamp.
The village of Mysovoye is located on a narrow low isthmus between bays, but behind the building you can see the rocks of Kazantip

Typical houses in the village in the stage of long-term construction

Boat "Yaltinets" at the gate

Having passed along almost the only street of the village across the isthmus, we turned to the central square to the church.
Nearby were some tents private hotel without a name in which baked goods were sold

in the middle central square there is a well, and behind it you can see the chapel and the church under construction Mother of God"Quicks". church complex is being built on the site of the destroyed eight-year school. Before the school, there was a church built in 1898, which was also destroyed in 1937.

The last center of culture in the countryside, the club of the state farm "Admiral Nakhimov", has been preserved nearby. The club has the Mysovskaya village library - branch No. 22 and amateur art concerts.
The most interesting thing is that the House of Culture has its own group In contact with, and the theater of miniatures "Tet-a-Tet" known far beyond Leninsky district Crimea

In search of passage to the cape, we return to the square

And we go around the church on the other side. This façade has not yet been plastered

From the church we find the way up and get to the old cemetery. We drive around its perimeter until we finally notice a track further up, gradually turning into a path and getting lost in the rocks. But we are not accustomed to retreat and in some places, climbing along the outcrops of the rocky base, we rise to the ridge.
From here opens gorgeous view to the village of Mysovoye (Kazantip), the isthmus, Lake Aktash (left), Arabatsky Bay (right) and the city of Shchelkino visible on the horizon.
Shchelkino is the youngest city of the Republic of Crimea (city status since December 18, 1992). From 1978 to 1989 developed as a city of nuclear workers - the builders of the Crimean NPP, but after the construction site was recognized as geologically unstable, the city's economy switched to post-industrial rails, which set the beach and festival types of tourism, as well as the related service sector and private entrepreneurship. There is no industry. Shchelkino is the only city in Crimea and the entire Russian Federation where the streets do not have names, but only house numbers. Also Shchelkino is the only city Sea of Azov, whose beaches are relatively deep, up to 10 meters. The water here warms up quickly and reaches +28-30 degrees in July-August. The population in 2014 is 10,620.

This is how this micro-region looks like in a schematic way. Diagram is upside down, north at bottom left. Here it becomes clear where the entrance to this natural fortification is located, which in size exceeds most of the fortresses known to me.

And now let's look in the other direction - inside the basin. Before us is the Kazantip Nature Reserve - the strangest of the protected formations of the Crimea. Strange from an organizational point of view. The thing is that now we see a "donut hole" that is not included in the territory of the reserve, and the reserve itself is a "steering wheel" along the perimeter of this lowland.
The very word Kazantip is translated from Tatar as the bottom of the boiler. Indeed, the relief here looks like a cauldron or a giant frying pan.

The cape is composed mainly of bryozoan limestones. Due to the outer ring ridge and the flat bottom of the basin, the peninsula looks like an ancient atoll with a dry lagoon in the middle, but in reality it is a typical convex brachianticline with a gentle slope of the layers on its slopes. The coast of Kazantip is extremely indented. The surface of many outer slopes is a complex alternation of karst funnels, cracks, and a chaotic heap of rocks. Small bays are limited by limestone cliffs, turning into the steppe.
The reserve includes both the territory of Cape Kazantip and the coastal-aquatic complex. Area 450.1 ha. It was formed on May 12, 1998 by decree of the President of Ukraine. The aqua-rocky complex of Cape Kazantip, which is part of the reserve, has the status of wetlands of international importance, according to the Ramsar Convention with a special protection regime.
The area of the reserve is small and in order to increase the effectiveness of the protection of unique natural complexes, there is a need to expand its territory at the expense of the Kazantip Cape basin (it is not included there), the territories of nearby objects (Astaninsky Plavni reserve, landscape park Karalar steppe), as well as in the creation of a protected area in the Sea of Azov at Cape Kazantip. The buffer zone, which could have been created during the organization of the reserve, was never created. And today, the Kazantip Nature Reserve is a donut-shaped site, within which economic and industrial activities are carried out (oil production and land plowing). The authorities of Shchelkino are seeking the allocation of a part protected area under the city cemetery, which seems to have already happened.

On a barely noticeable rut, it is still there, we go down to the road below. I confess, I trampled a lot of Red Book plants and grasshoppers. But then I had a poor idea of how the reserve is arranged and how it is possible to extract oil here, but you can’t drive and walk. Doesn't this seem strange to you?
We went down just in time for the full house, reporting that we are in the reserve. In the distance one could see oil pumping chairs and the base of oilmen
The predominant plant communities on the territory of the reserve are virgin areas of feather grass, petrophilic, shrub and meadow steppe. In total, there are 541 species of vascular plants in Kazantip, which make up 40% of the flora of the plain Crimea and 60% of the flora Kerch Peninsula. Of these, 25 species are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, among them: white violet, Mithridatic katran, Taliev's cornflower, water-bearing ophrys, Syreyshchikov's resin, fine-leaved peony, Dnieper astragalus, yellow asphodelina, two-flowered and Schrenk tulips, late-flowered sternbergia, 5 types of feather grass.
The fauna of the reserve includes 188 species of vertebrates and more than 450 species of invertebrates. 35 species of animals are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. Among them are such species as: yellow-bellied, yellow-bellied and four-striped snakes, steppe viper, oystercatcher, shelduck, steppe kestrel, field harrier, large horseshoe bat, light ferret, Andrena ornata bee.

Looking back, they saw that some interesting building on the ridge. At first I mistook it for a silo pit

But only later, dealing with what was filmed, I realized that this was a caponier for equipment that was located here in the days of the USSR of a separate radar company. All of its buildings are now almost completely destroyed. From the control point there was a foundation pit with fragments of concrete slabs. So the concrete caponier is probably the most preserved structure.

We drive further, to the center of the basin and run into the barrier of the oil field base. There was a version to agree to film the fishery officially, but no one was in a hurry to meet us, and we were too lazy to walk to the town ourselves.

We decide to look at the nearest rocking chair

There are no usual well pads here, all wells are drilled separately

Who extracts oil in this reserved corner of the Crimean peninsula?
An information plate on the rocking chair will help us figure it out, in which a certain Krymtekhasnafta LLC, registered in Simferopol, is indicated.
The word "Texas" in the name is present for a reason.
The company is 59% owned by the Cypriot offshore Hytexplor Houston Overseas Ltd. They, according to the Cypriot registry, are run by two American oilmen of "retirement" age - Charles Python and Ronald Cormick. Kormik has worked for US shale companies for many years and is still the head of the international Eagle Mountain Corporation and the Texas-based Shale Oil International.

Crimea for Americans is not a hobby recent years. For example, back in 1997, Cormik made reports in Canada on the topic of the great oil and gas potential of the peninsula. Moreover, Krymtekhasnafta itself at the same time, according to the Ukrainian media, was already working on the peninsula and even extracting oil. Then her possessions were noticeably more extensive than now - she was engaged in the Aktash, Priozerny and Moshkarevskoye deposits, scattered from Feodosia to Kerch. On its basis, by the way, the current Deputy Minister of the Crimean Ministry of Natural Resources Alexei Yatsenko, who worked there as the chief geologist in the 2000s, “grew up”.
By the mid-2000s, the company, after a series of environmental scandals, smoothly curtailed its activities, and the state began to look for a buyer for its share, but it was not found until the spring of 2014.
Now 61% of the shares belong to the Crimean Property Ministry.
According to Ukrainian media, Kormik initially created Krymtekhasnafta as a Canadian-Russian enterprise, investing money in it as a Canadian citizen through Canadian Epic Energy.

According to data from open sources, Krymtekhasnafta LLC has been incurring losses since 2013 and its profit will steadily fall. The aforementioned LLC is now eyeing Karalarskaya Square, another corner of the reserved Crimea.

Having twirled at the well, we decided that it was time to leave here, because. all turns from the main road were blocked by barriers.

Turning on the way back to the next stop, we drove to the high-rise to take a couple of photos, as we noticed that an old jeep was dusting in our direction from the base. We did not want to run away, bypassing the barrier on the reserved grass, and we decided to wait for the owners of the territory.

A young man got out of the jeep and inquired how we got here and for what purpose. I honestly told him everything and he was very surprised that we drove from the side of the old cemetery. Here I was cunning, saying that there were no full houses there and we did not know about the protected area. Moreover, we regret that we had to suppress the grass, but now we are aware, we are only driving along the road and are looking for a way out of this hollow. It seemed to me that the young man had nothing to do with the reserve and the pumping chairs of the oil field were the object of his protection.
Indeed, we are in difficult situation. There was no way to go back, because. the barrier at the main entrance was closed and it was impossible to bypass it, and open even more so - Saturday, a day off. But then a kind Texas ranger came to our aid and showed us a track along which we could drive to a new cemetery on the western side of the cape and leave the territory without hindrance.

What we did, along the way, was shooting landscapes, feather grass, views of the Arabat Bay and the new cemetery

Once again about the protected status of the Kazantip nature reserve.
As we know, in these reserves any nature-transforming activity and anthropogenic impact on biocenoses are prohibited. It is forbidden to pass and drive, and, moreover, hunting, fishing, collecting wild plants, mushrooms and other things. Is not national park, not a reserve, but a reserve. However, the Kazantip Reserve is out of this rule. Everyone has already understood about the location of the oil field in its center. Technological transport passes along the road through the territory of the reserve. Moreover, there is an opportunity to get acquainted with the nature of Kazantip on foot. To do this, you need to get a pass to visit the reserve. The management of the Kazantip Reserve is located in the center of Shchelkino at the address: house 33, apt. 12. But we didn’t have time for this anymore ...

And one more unfortunate case from the history of the reserve. On its territory, not only was the new Shchelkinsky cemetery taken away (which the environmental prosecutor's office of Crimea, headed by poklonskaya_nv ), but also in 2008 they filmed the film "Inhabited Island" by Fyodor Bondarchuk.
The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine fined the directorate of the film for 16,500 hryvnias. According to Andrey Artov, chairman of the Crimean Republican Association "Ecology and Peace", tank tracks destroyed rare snakes and legless lizards (four-striped snakes and yellow-bellies), listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. The director of the film, Fyodor Bondarchuk, denied the accusations of environmentalists and said that the tank attack was filmed not in the reserve, but in oil fields, next to the drilling rigs, but did not deny the fact of the fine.

Something Lately I began to dislike filmmakers. Here, the caterpillars of tanks suppressed the yellow-tubs, in the Brest fortress, during the filming of the patriotic film of the same name, they caused irreparable damage to the cultural heritage site of the Kobrin fortification, given to filmmakers by the Brest Gorvykankam for looting.

One way or another, consoling ourselves that the damage from us to nature is incomparable with the damage from the oil and film workers, we drove onto the highway and went to Shchelkino. After dinner on the Shchelkinsky beach and realizing that it was not convenient to get up here with a tent for the night, we drove through the whole city.
The photo shows the crest of Kazantip, which we stormed head-on a few hours ago.

At the exit from Shchelkino towards Feodosia, numerous dacha cooperatives with bizarre buildings and crosses stretched in a continuous strip, separating us from the Arabatsky Gulf.

It was decidedly impossible to get up for the night here. I wanted romance - an endless beach, sand and the sound of the surf at night under the moon.
After consulting, we make a decision to return to the shore of the Kazantip Bay to the water intake of the Crimean nuclear power plant ...
We go there through the Crimean solar power plant, with the protection of which we could not agree on a visit. I remember how long I walked around the empty building in search of at least one living soul. Saturday is a day off.
To be continued.
