Prices for food and products

In the vicinity of Chenang Beach on Langkawi, where most tourists stay, prices are "island". The average check for a modest lunch/dinner will be 7-8 ringit ($1.7). Together with seafood, the check will double. Prices in supermarkets are slightly higher than in Penang. There are no hypermarkets at all. But the most important “yummy” is that Langkawi is a zone duty free, so alcohol and cigarettes are cheaper here than in Russia. For example, a two-liter bottle of Capitan Morgan rum costs 35 ringit ($8.4).

You can see the main prices in Penang at. Dine in a restaurant on the island will cost you 3-5 ringit ($1) for a dish. Hookah - 12 ringit ($2.8). But get ready to shell out 16 and 18 ringgits for cigarettes and a bottle of beer, respectively. Alas, high excise taxes.

How to get to Penang from Langkawi and back

In my opinion, Penang Island is not very suitable for beach holiday, and here neighboring island Langkawi is just right for a leisurely beach vacation, and is also a Duty Free zone.

I advise you to consider the option of combining the two Malaysian islands of Langkawi and Penang on your trip to Malaysia: visit Langkawi, swim in the ocean, visit, climb to the jungle, buy beer and other alcoholic beverages in duty free, and then move to Penang, stop in downtown Georgetown for sightseeing and must-see, and national park Penang.

Boat timetable and cost Penang – Langkawi

Detailed article on how to get to Langkawi:

That's all I wanted to tell about how to get to Penang. Have a nice rest!

This year we got the longest and most tiring visa run. But the thought that it would be better to take an organized transfer and return to Phuket in one day did not visit us. It was exciting!

Phuket - Satun. First part of the route

From Thailand to Langkawi can be reached by ferry from the city of Satun. Buses run to this city from Phuket and from other southern provinces Thailand. We went to our Phuket Bus Terminal 1 bus station to get tickets. The girls at the counters assured us that there were no direct Phuket-Satun buses. They said that you can get from Phuket to Satun only with a transfer in Trang or Hat Yai. Which meant a completely different route. A ticket to Trang costs 300 baht per person. From trang to Satun another 120-150 baht.

Where to buy bus tickets

After standing for a few minutes and thinking that, firstly, Trang was not in our plans, we didn’t hear anything about him at all, and secondly, there is a risk of not having time to get to Satun by 16 o’clock and therefore not being able to catch the last ferry to Langkawi. We decided to ask someone else, because the Thais, they are strange, how many Thais, so many opinions.

We went to another cashier, which is located at the very end of the bass station. There, a sweet old grandmother, fluent in English, assured us that the Phuket-Satun bus still runs. Only now, tickets for it cannot be bought at this station, you need to go to the second Bus Terminal 2. The first bus is at 8.15. Come here tomorrow at 7 am, take a pink songteo to the station. Buy tickets there and go. And then she added with a smile - “I just can’t promise that there will be places. Chinese New Year Tomorrow."

Combined ticket through a travel agency

We decided to do so. We trudged towards the house and in the gateway near the station we noticed an office that sells transfers in Thailand. Learned the price to Satun. For two 2500 baht. Glory, as always, with a calm expression on his face, said that we would think about it and if anything we would return, when the price suddenly dropped to 2300 baht. Then I turned on and began to tell him that it seems not expensive, you have to take it. The woman thought that I was discouraging him from this purchase and gave us last price 2000 baht for two. Hooray! Here is another conversation. We take!

This price includes transfer from the condo/hotel to the bus station, bus tickets to Satun and ferry tickets to Langkawi.

Traveling alone is cheaper

What we tupanuli learned the next day. A sleepy aunt searched for our condo for a long time and never found it, although we sent her the address and coordinates in a text message. As a result, we agreed to meet near the nearest hotel, which every, sorry, dog knows here. Drove us in a minivan comfortably drove to the station. My aunt bought tickets, on which we saw the real cost.

For two, the price of a ticket for a direct bus from Phuket to Satun is 676 baht, 338 baht per person. This is where we got upset. But there was nothing to be done. Everything has already been paid! But on the other hand, they took us directly from the condo and didn’t have to mess with transfers in city buses due to traffic jams.

ahead easy road to Satun, which will take only 5 hours, from where, as the Burmese aunt assured us, the ferry to Langkawi departs immediately ...

Bus Phuket-Satun

A very tedious journey

The road to Satun was, no strength, how tiring and hard. It seemed like we drove forever. Although the bus was comfortable, the seats in it did not fold out. So, long live the stiff neck and aching back!!

Pink bus with soft toys

Water and food are not provided on this route.

No drinks, buns, sweets, dinner and elementary bottles of water, as is usually the case in state buses, were not given to anyone. It's good that we put a bottle of water and light snacks in our backpack. So I advise you to stock up on food and water in advance in the evening or buy early in the morning. You will want to eat. And not just once.

For the whole trip only one stop in Trang

The bus makes a bunch of short stops, picking up and dropping off passengers, but short, for 1-2 minutes, there is no way to get off. A more or less long stop to stretch my legs and have a bite to eat was only one after 5 hours and only for 10 minutes. And it should have been at least 3 times, as is customary, when you go public bus over such long distances.

The bus travels longer than the stated time by 2 hours

After sleeping in crooked positions for a while, we were already beginning to worry. Looked at the clock, and there 15:30. There were no signs that we even entered this Satun. Everything would be fine, only the last ferry to Langkawi leaves at 16:00. Maybe Satun is a very small town, and in 10-15 minutes we will arrive. We drove after these words for almost an hour.

I turn back and see that there is almost no one else on the bus. It that, it turns out, only we go to Langkawi from Phuket?

The bus misses the last ferry to Langkawi

We heard Russian speech. We were very surprised, someone also drifted into this wilderness. The bus didn't even come to the bus station, dropped us off in the center of Satun at 16:40. We got off the bus in the company of a Russian couple who were also heading to Langkawi. We met.

Immediately a motorbiker drove up with the question: Where to take you? They said that we need to get on the ferry. Ooooh…the ferry left 40 minutes ago. It's 4:40 p.m. now. Or maybe there are other ferries? We imploringly ask... Maybe we can rent a boat and get to Malaysia today? Sori. There are no options. There is no way you can get to Langkawi today.

Later, on the Internet, we came across reviews from other travelers that the bus did not have time for the ferry. The declared time is 5 hours, but in fact the ride is at least 8. So it is.

Overnight in Satun

We split up with the guys. They decided to stay at a hotel Pinnacle Satun Hotel, which costs only 400 baht, but is very old and without the Internet. We disdained to spend the night there a little and went to look for another hotel, which.

Having settled in, they called the same aunt, who did not mention a word that such an unforeseen situation could happen. But, as if nothing had happened, she advised us to check into a hotel and promised that a songteo would pick us up and take us on the first ferry to the island in the morning. Was it really so difficult to warn that the bus would not make it to the ferry?? Were you afraid that we would not buy tickets then?

In the evening we walked around the city, took some pictures, even visited several sights. Read the article:

Ferry Satun - Langkawi

Morning came, and 8 minutes later a sleepy driver came for us. We took the guys with us so that they would not pay for the tuk-tuk and travel with us for free. The taxi driver turned out to be slippery and complained to our aunt that instead of two passengers he took four. Even with large backpacks. Worked out, poor guy. The guys had to pay 100 baht. Unfortunately, we couldn't help here.

Tammalang port

Satun Langkawi Ferry Schedule Thai Time

Passport control went through instantly. There were no people. And now, the ferry to Langkawi. It hasn't even been a day, as they say.

Now, due to such an unplanned stop in Satun, instead of two days, there will be only one day in Langkawi.

By the way, we already had the experience of traveling on this ferry when we completed the route. Then you could climb upper deck and look at the beauties of nature. This time a bummer. They are not allowed on deck. The doors are locked. Inside, the air conditioners are working at full capacity. Many Malays and we, hardened by frost.

Are you cold girl? Of course it's cold

Sailed for about an hour. Doesn't rock.

Malaysia border

Queue for passport control small. No forms or migration cards need to be filled out. Just put your fingers on the scanner. Russians are stamped for 30 days without a visa. We went out into the hall of the Malay railway station and exhaled. We are in Malaysia! Hooray!

Seaport of Langkawi

Conclusion: even if you take the earliest Phuket-Satun bus, you will most likely miss the ferry, the probability is very small. And without a doubt, our aunt in the travel agency, like other sellers in similar offices, knows that you will not arrive on time. Such an alleged "accident" and an unscheduled bus delay. Although, we didn’t stand in traffic jams, there were no stops, we drove fast ...

Or maybe the locals got it all? For tourists to spend some money in the provincial Satun. Rent a hotel, buy something to eat, go to a cafe, maybe take a walk to the market. This is how this city additionally collects at the expense of tourists for a penny. Obviously you will not go to Satun on vacation or for the winter. The maximum, like everything else, is to stop for the night, in order to cross to Malaysia in the morning.

Part Two: Langkawi - Satun - Phuket

The day flew by unnoticed, and we are forced to return to Thailand. This time we decided not to resort to the help of travel agencies and went on our own.

Ferry from Langkawi to Satun ferry

Again rushed by taxi to the train station in Langkawi. We went to the counter and bought tickets for the first ferry for 30 ringit per person. The ferry is called Langkawi Ferry. The ticket office is not located in the station building, but in a one-story building across the road behind KFC from the parking lot. There are 3 ferries a day.

Langkawi Satun Ferry Schedule

9:00 | 13:00 | 17:15 - Malay time (+1 hour to Thai)

It is better to arrive early on the first ferry

Lots of people drive in the morning. We bought tickets without any problems, arriving 40 minutes before departure. I'm not sure that there are enough tickets for the first ferry for everyone if you arrive later. When we started, all the places were taken. The interior of the ship was literally littered with backpacks and bags of euro-backpackers. There were no Russians.

We just left Thailand, and we are returning to it again

Wrapped up in our warm sweatshirts and socks, we fell asleep, and an hour later we were already out and stomping to the check-in counters.

Divorce at the border of Thailand

While we were standing in line at passport control, a young Malay woman approached us unobtrusively and, having learned that we were going to Phuket, offered us bus tickets with a transfer to the bus station included. Only 650 baht per person. At first, half asleep, they almost fell asleep, for the second time they did not agree, but they remembered in time that tickets cost 338 baht each and refused. As a result, tickets cost 676 baht for two + 60 baht for songteo.

Minibus from the sea station to the Satuna bus station

Passport control was successful, we activated the second part of the visa. We were lucky that we were almost the first to leave the ferry, there was a long queue behind us. And the bus is only 20 minutes away! We got into the red songteo and drove to the station. We arrive 5 minutes before the bus departure.

Bus Satun - Phuket

While Slava was paying off the sogteo driver, I ran off to look for tickets to Phuket, because the bus, judging by the schedule, should leave in a couple of minutes. Everything at the last moment!

Satun to Phuket bus timetable

There was no time to check and take a picture of the schedule. There is practically no information on this route in RuNet, but I found a discussion on the English lonlyplanet, where the following schedule was given:

9:15 | 10:15 | 12:15 | 20:00

We were guided by the bus at 10:15. I don’t know about the rest, but there is definitely a bus at 10-15.

Another tiring road with one stop

Tickets bought, seats filled. Ready to return home! And the return promised to be no less slow. Still one stop in Trang for 10 minutes, where we quickly bought ourselves food, since we had not had breakfast yet. At the station there are several macaroons and stalls with chips, nuts, rolls and noodles. Prices don't go up. There will be no more stops after Trang, so we recommend taking more water and provisions.

The bus station in Trang is the only place where you can buy food and drinks

Krabi

On the way we passed Krabi. At the bus station there was only a quick disembarkation of passengers, it was impossible to get out to warm up. We thought on the way back to stay for a couple of days, but this trip tired us so much that we wanted to go home as soon as possible.

We remember this station in Krabi. With him, life began in Ao Nang

We admired the magnificent rocks and the wild nature of Krabi. I couldn't even believe we lived there. I recalled our month-long vacation with my mother and understood that now all my life these rocks will evoke memories of the days spent with her.

I really wanted to return to Krabi for a day, but another time. Now the only thing left is to get home.

Traffic jams in Phuket

And the way home did not want to decrease. We were just glad that we crossed the Sarasin Bridge .. And in Phuket, as always, traffic jams. The bus was already driving not 8 hours, like last time, but all nine. We arrived at the Bus Terminal-2 bus station, it was already dark.

How did we get home

Time 19.30. We were informed that public transport to Phuket Town, in the form of pink songteos, no longer runs. Slava went to find out about a taxi, and in the meantime I got into a conversation with the guys and America, who also need to go to Phuket Town.

They decided that 400 baht for a taxi to Phuket Town is a little expensive, and they don’t want to bargain in any way, they just turn around and leave. Also me, bitchy fifas, so you sit there without clients, since you are so intractable.

We went out onto the road, hoping to catch a taxi at a normal price or some kind of minibus. And he is not and is not. They already wanted to return to the taxi drivers, as we see, a pink songteo is coming. The four of us wave our hands. Hooray! He stops! We jump inside and smile at each other, rejoice that he was caught at such a late hour.

While we were driving, we talked with the guys and rushed to the town unnoticed. The guys left a little earlier, but the songteo does not go to our area. Using GPS, we tracked our position and went out to the nearest street.

We were terribly hungry, went to Seven, bought food for home, as there was nothing in the refrigerator except flour and cheese.

They caught a motorbiker. Under the influence of energy drinks, a frail and not quite adequate biker rushed us home. We agreed on 40 baht, but the taxi driver did not know our condo and for some reason took us to the center of the town. Somehow, with the help of pedestrians, he figured out which way to go. As a result, we rode with him for 20 minutes, instead of 5, he rode the bike periodically with one hand, so the ride was nervous. But finally we arrived, gave him 60 baht and trudged into our cozy nest.
