The best resorts in Sri Lanka. The best resorts of Sri Lanka description. The best time to relax

Today I have a desire, within the framework of one article, to acquaint the readers of this site with almost all, more or less the best and most significant resorts of the island of Sri Lanka. If you do not know, then I will say that the territory of the island is divided into 24 regions.

Most of these areas are not of great interest to tourists coming here. Moreover, there are some districts where tourists do not appear for several months in a row. In general, when describing the resorts of Sri Lanka, let's make it clear with you that there are no resorts as such in the central and northern parts of the state. Only some cities can be excluded from this series, where tourists are recommended to go as entertainment, that way for a couple of days, to review the sights existing in those parts. Resorts, located mainly on the ocean, are located in the southwest and east of the country.

Five of the best resorts in Sri Lanka

five most famous resorts located a little further south from the capital of Sri Lanka - these are Hikkaduwa, Beruwala, Mount Lavinia, Negombo and Bentota.

Description of the resorts of Sri Lanka, it is impossible not to start with the resort of Negombo - the closest in its location to the international airport of Sri Lanka, and therefore quite popular among tourists arriving in Sri Lanka at a later time of the day, when, in principle, there is no way to go to the south. All those who, in addition to the desire to relax on the beach, also have quite logical, but specific needs for a more active holiday, fly here in Negombo. Let me tell you a secret, the location of this resort is such that it is very close to the migration routes of many ocean food fish, the migration season of which falls on high tourist season. As a consequence of this fact, crowds of amateur bourgeois anglers come here to fish in search of their best catch in life. Fishing conditions here will satisfy both the most sophisticated lovers of this type of recreation, and not so demanding and financially independent. Not bad in Negombo and a beach holiday, although we do not advise you to stay here for a long time, because all the best that Sri Lanka can show you is further south from Colombo.

Description of Mount Lavinia

Mount Lavinia is a description of the first serious resort in Sri Lanka, from which it is worth starting our report. It is the closest to the capital of the state, located only 12 km from the city limits of the city. It is very easy to get to from the airport. The described resort is very popular among tourists who independently come to rest in Sri Lanka. The beach here is great, but there is one drawback, on weekends, as well as national holidays, quite a large number of local people on the beach, which will confuse you a little, especially if you are looking for a secluded and peaceful holiday.

From the most simple and undemanding, let's move on to the description of the most modern resort.

Beruwala is relative new resort which can be proud of the splendor of well-equipped beaches. Describing this resort, one cannot fail to mention the fact that at the time of this writing, the Beruwela resort is undergoing a global reconstruction initiated by the government of the state. IN Lately, many travel companies, who bring tourists here in an organized manner, reproach the government for the fact that the prices for hotels in Sri Lanka are somewhat high, and the service is at a rather low level. However, few of those who write these complaints conduct a systematic analysis of the dynamics of changes in the situation over a long period of time. Over the past 3 years, one of the longest in the country has already been built on the island toll roads connecting the city of Colombo and Matara. In addition, China, represented by one of its state-owned companies, is currently conducting a large-scale construction of a road from Colombo to the east and north of the country, which will connect the central, agricultural regions with the center in the city of Kandy with the main artery of the country. Beruvella is the third largest project of national importance, where a total restructuring is currently taking place. All old hotels are completely destroyed, the beach and its surrounding areas are re-planned and refurbished. It was from Beruwala that the government showed its clear intention to enter the tourism market with a competitive infrastructure, where Thailand and Indonesia have long been firmly in the lead. By official information, the 2014 season will be the first season of the new Beruwala. There is not much left before it will be clear whether the government's path has been chosen correctly or not.

Description of Trincomalee - Sri Lanka's #1 surfer resort

Continuing the description of the resorts, we will slightly change the geolocation and move to the east coast of the island, and tell you about the resort of Trincomalee. Trincomalee is one of the most beautiful deep water coves in the world. Unfortunately, Trincomalee is considered one of the most remote tourist resorts in Sri Lanka. It is located on the east coast of the island, where there are no good high-speed roads yet. Tourists from Russia and the CIS countries traveling to Sri Lanka are now completely deprived of the opportunity to visit these parts. However, you can visit the described resort. On our website, we have already given a lot of information about routes around the country. Let's say that using the train schedule, you can plan a visit to Trincomalee for a period of 3 to 5 days, it makes no more sense. Please note that you can also get to Trincomalee by train from the southern resorts.

The most expensive and romantic resort

Continuing to describe the resorts of the Island, we return to the shores of southwestern Sri Lanka, and in our review, the most romantic resort, marked for the rich - Bentota. Bentota is a small resort area with several fairly large and large hotels. The places here are very romantic, rather deserted, due to the fact that there are no settlements of local residents nearby. This is one of the most famous places in Sri Lanka where newlyweds go as honeymoon. There are absolutely no discos here, no loud music, the entire celebration of the resort is waiters in white jackets, the harmony of nature, the aroma of the jungle and light jazz in restaurants on the shores of the gentle sea.

budget resort

It is impossible to complete the article without mentioning Hikkaduwa - as the complete opposite of Bentota. A place chosen by surfers from all over the world, and people craving discos and colorful restaurants.

Please note that the most ideal month in Sri Lanka for surfing in Hikkaduwa is the month of May. This is the period of the so-called "first, mild monsoon" when the wind blows a constant moderate wind from the south, dispersing quite substantial waves, while precipitation is not constant but episodic, mainly at night.

I note that the Trincomalee mentioned above is also of interest to surfers, however, Hikkaduwa and Trincomalee are suitable for boarding in different time of the year. It is better to go to Trincomalee from April to September, to Hikkaduwa you need to go from December to April.

One of the most big beaches Sri Lanka, which, however, does not make it the safest, is located right here, in the described Hikkaduwa. The village stretched for as much as 4 kilometers along the ocean. Here in Hikkaduwa, 70 km away. south of Colombo you will find the cheapest accommodation for yourself organized recreation. It is worth saying that the currents on Hikkaduwa beach are quite strong, and not all of its 4 km length is suitable for swimming. Once upon a time, the coastal edge was protected from powerful ocean waves coral reef, but now he is completely dead due to the changed climate, and the huge waves of the Indian Ocean break unhindered on the shore.

It's dirty in here. Yes, it's great to learn to surf here for beginners, but in Weligama, as in all of Sri Lanka, it's dirty. In this article I will write about all the resorts of Sri Lanka, the third country of my second circumnavigation. Here is the most common surfing beach in the city of Weligama. Slightly littered:

But despite everything, this is a typical Asian country (which resembles India in many ways) with affordable prices, large portions of food, an abundance of rice around and many fruits in the markets. And of course, complete, total freedom inherent in almost all of Southeast Asia.

It was in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 that I first got on the surf and learned to ride “on the foam”. It was in Sri Lanka that my bike was arrested for the first time for driving without a license. It was here that I first swam with a huge turtle in open ocean and we even shook hands / flippers 🙂 Otherwise, everything is typical for Asian countries. Well, now about everything in order.

But first, take a look at the handy price chart for tours to sri lanka and select your departure city:

If you look, then most of the hotels available for accommodation are located in the city of Hikkaduwa. Needless to say, this is one of the most popular tourist resorts? Therefore, I definitely do not advise going to Hikkaduwa, there is a dominance of Russians and a complete swindle of tourists. Just like in .
The golden rule of a Russian tourist says: "If the inscriptions in the store are translated into Russian, then the prices here are at least 3 times higher." Here is one of the main streets in Hikkaduwa:

And here is an excursion shop near the hotel where I spent the night:

But one way or another you will come to this tourist town, even if you do not like Russian tourists abroad and the abundance local population, which here "feed" only at the expense of tourists and is not at all averse to diluting them for money. And here's why you can't drive past Hikkaduwa:

Where to swim with a turtle in Sri Lanka

Arriving in the Philippines, go to the island to swim with real ite sharks. Arriving in Sri Lanka, go to Hikkaduwa to swim with large sea turtles and feed them seaweed from your hands:

You can swim with a turtle absolutely free, because they swim up to the shore (there are three of them, such lured). Ideally, of course, if you want to swim with or next to her, then you will need goggles or a snorkel mask.
But it also happens that you may not find a turtle near the shore, in which case you can pay 600 rubles and you will be taken by boat to a neighboring small island, they will give you a mask for snorkeling and you can swim there, though with another family of turtles 🙂 I'm here the first time I came to Right place on the beach, here it is by the way on the map:

there were no turtles. Arriving there again three hours later, I discovered this miracle of nature:

And I love this kind of contact with the animal world much more than going to any zoos.

Resorts of Sri Lanka: Galle

Going down to the south of the island, you will find the wonderful city of Galle, adjacent to the tourist resort of Unawatuna. And if I don’t recommend you go to Unawatuna again, then in Galle you should definitely stay for one or two days, there is something to do there, for example, visit Galle Fort:

The huge well-groomed territory of the old fort allows you to wander for hours, look at the defense device with interest, go into all sorts of catacombs:

In some truth, you can enter only at your own peril and risk:

And so you walk through the territory of the fort, climb the stairs to a higher level, and you are met point-blank by a statue of an armed guard holding the muzzle of a rifle in your direction. In a second you understand how those who stormed this fort several centuries earlier felt here:

In addition to the fort, I liked the town of Galle sincerely. I liked the interesting architecture here too:

AND interesting sculptures on the roofs of some houses (probably this is a local deity, but this is not certain):

And the opportunity to go inside the train, at an abandoned railway station. This is Asia, this is freedom 🙂

Then you should go to the mecca of surfing - Weligama. On the way from Galle to Weligama, on the right side, be sure to stop at the cafe, which is organized right in the vintage British Army aircraft Hawker Siddeley HS748:

It will be hard not to notice 🙂

Resorts of Sri Lanka: Weligama

For surfing for beginners, it is definitely worth going to Weligama. I recommend staying in this area, it is the quietest, close to the sea and you live among the locals:

I lived for 10 days in this hotel. No stardom, an ordinary Asian guesthouse without frills:

However, my fellow travelers stopped on the other side of this beach, in a place called Ajith Rest. Booking rating is 9.2, the girls also liked the friendly hosts and affordable price.
But in the next couple of years, built on the coast will open here hotel from Marriott. Then the city of Weligama will be greatly transformed.

Surfing in Sri Lanka

I came to Sri Lanka with only one goal - to learn to surf and stand on the board. And I succeeded. Board rental here (in Weligama) is very, very affordable, about 200 rubles for 2 hours. For 50 bucks you will be individually taught how to surf. My friends gave me a couple of lessons, the rest I fixed by practice on my own.

The main thing you need to get up on the foam (a wave that has already collapsed and “foams”) is speed. You need to be able to accelerate yourself with the board in order to easily get up on each wave. You tried badly with your hands and the wave will not “hook” you. The sets here are plentiful, constantly alternating for complete beginners, and meter-long waves for the more advanced. The coolest - in the morning and before sunset (sunset).

What is important to know - you need closed clothes if you do not want to walk in abrasions. While you row, you crawl on the board and rub everything for yourself. And for beginners, a huge white board is suitable, like this:

It is more convenient to keep the balance on it and to learn how to get up quickly - this board is the best. I “clung” to the wave several times and rode it just lying on my belly. Then several times getting up already on the knee. When he fixed this, he jumped to his feet and received incomparable pleasure from the fact that he was saddling a small, but a wave. But such small boards are already for advanced ones 🙂

As for the beaches for swimming / sunbathing - I was delighted with Midigama Beach, a five-minute drive west of Weligama:

Five minutes' drive east of Weligama has quite big beach Mirissa beach. The girls liked him better.

Should I move to live / spend the winter in Sri Lanka?

If you are not afraid of Asia with its dirt, black mold and poverty, it is worth it. Definitely now is the time to move to Weligama - the place is just beginning to develop, a huge number of tourists come here to surf, and there is still no normal infrastructure with a huge amount of entertainment. It's time to open your own establishments, cafes and other leisure and entertainment places here. There will be demand, especially when Marriott opens.

What is the food like in Sri Lanka?

As elsewhere, an abundance of rice dishes. But if we draw the same analogy with Thailand, then here the dishes are spicier. Proximity with India. For example a traditional dish in Sri Lanka - curry:

It is based on rice, and 6-8 super-spicy and just spicy additives are served with it under various spices. I couldn't finish them all because of the spiciness 🙂

Food portions are large. Here is an example of standard rice with sea food:

Of course, there are a lot of European and American cafes around where you can taste more familiar food, so you won’t go hungry:

But Russian cafes - one for the whole city. Yes, and there are no okroshka or borscht 🙁

And of course, a feast for the whole world is restaurants on the beaches. Tasty, not spicy and still large portions of food:

I also recommend eating at least once in local establishments where there are no forks and spoons, as well as napkins: they eat here with their hands, and wipe them with cut paper or newspapers. Naturally it is cheap, naturally very authentic. Well, it’s delicious 🙂 the locals won’t eat nonsense.

Center of the island, the city of Kandy in Sri Lanka

Unfortunately, I didn't get here, but it's definitely worth a visit.
First, look at these pictures:

Secondly, here is the contact of a friendly local who will gladly show you the main Beautiful places in the center of the island.

TOURIST ANSWERS:

Almost all seaside resorts Sri Lanka has beautiful beaches and good conditions for relax. The cost of living depends more on the level of the hotel than on the resort. You can always find suitable option whether it's a luxury hotel or a guesthouse. Surprisingly, with a large number of hotels in the resorts, there are very few tourists on the beaches. Probably, this is facilitated by interesting excursions.

Bentota - romantic resort 64 km from Colombo. Popular with honeymooners, couples and lovers of local oysters. Located at the mouth of the river of the same name in the southwest of the island. There is also a water entertainment center "Confifi Marina".

Beruwala is a resort located just north of Bentota. beautiful beaches dispose to relaxing holiday, Although water activities are also presented. The main attraction of Beruwela is the Kechimalai Mosque, so many Muslims live in the resort and even more of them come here.

Wadduwa is a wonderful place, very close (only 35 km) from Colombo. It attracts with numerous coconut palms and gorgeous sandy beaches. Developed infrastructure, a large number of hotels, shops and shops, restaurants and cafes, a diving center.

Kalutara - colorful resort place next to Wadduwa. Here you can feel the Portuguese, Dutch and English influences. Known for its spices, spices and delicious fruits.

Kogalla is a small but quite famous Sri Lankan resort. Remoteness from Colombo (more than 100 km) attracts tourists here who dream of relaxing from all the fuss. But all the infrastructure necessary for life and entertainment is here.

Nuwara Eliya is a famous mountain town. A real escape from the summer heat. Among the buildings built in the British colonial style You feel like a real Englishman. Numerous waterfalls further emphasize the beauty of the place.

Mount Lavinia is the most close resort, just a few kilometers from Colombo. wide sandy beaches attract tourists here. In addition, the city is quite large. Solitude is not to be found here. But hawkers offer fresh juices and souvenirs. Most comfortable spot to travel around the island.

Hikkaduwa is a resort in the south of Sri Lanka. Favorite place for divers and surfers. If you are not one of them, you can learn. Well suited for youth recreation. Here you can swim with turtles and feed them. But it is inconvenient to go on excursions.

Helpful answer?

To get to know the country and leave the best memories of it, I think you need to choose the perfect combination of a good hotel, beach and excursion program. First of all, you need to decide for yourself what the trip is designed for. Sri Lanka is a large island and here anyone can find entertainment to their liking.

The best resort and the best sea

In my opinion, one of the best resorts in Sri Lanka is small village Unawatuna with the beach of the same name. This place is well suited for romantic couples for their honeymoon, nature lovers and families with children. Here good hotels with excellent service. There are very decent restaurants With huge selection the freshest seafood.

Snorkelers will find a completely unexpected entertainment in Unawatuna. As such, there are no corals in the usual sense for us, but there are a lot of fish that swim around the swimmer, closing a tight ring around him. A very unusual feeling from swimming among so many fish.

Before, it seemed to me that this was possible only in the depths of the ocean, as shown in documentaries Discovery channel. But on Unawatuna, I experienced this myself. And there you can swim with sea turtles, which feed 5-10 meters from the shore.

The sea is relatively calm here, and on the outskirts of the beach, where there are no waves at all, kids can safely swim. The water in Unawatuna is clean and the beach is cleaned daily.

Another significant advantage in favor of this beach is, in my opinion, the presence of a chic observation deck. It is so mesmerizingly beautiful here that you do not get tired of coming here again and again. You sit on the rocks near the cliff, in front of you is the raging sea, and the wave coming from the ocean now and then douses you with salt spray.

Where will vacation be cheaper?

The farther from the airport, the cheaper. Of course, this is not a law, but still more or less accurate. At a decent distance from the capital of Colombo towards Galle Fort, there are excellent and not expensive places rest - Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Mirissa, Weligama. The sea and beaches there, as a rule, are cleaner and there are much fewer tourists.

Hikkaduwa is also suitable for active youth. There is also a reef with fish and sea turtles. You can take a glass bottom boat tour. But I want to warn you that for those who expect the same pictures from snorkeling in Sri Lanka as in Thailand, and even more so as in Egypt or the Maldives, you will not see this here. beautiful corals And we couldn't find bright fish here. But the island specializes in excursions for dolphins, and you can also snorkel by swimming next to the whale shark. I think such entertainment is no less interesting than the usual snorkeling in Egyptian waters.

The beaches of Hikkaduwa and Bentota are most of all chosen by Russian tourists. If you want to spend time in the company of Russian-speaking tourists, then you are here. But keep in mind that sometimes on these beaches, not only to lay a towel, you won’t even be able to walk calmly. There are a large number of hotels and with full settlement there are a lot of people on the beaches.

When choosing the best resorts in Sri Lanka for recreation, it is worth remembering that there are several important features for tourists.

The first one is the monsoons. From May to September, the country is dominated by rains. The second point concerns tourist areas. Conventionally, there are two main directions: southwestern and southeast coast. What is the difference between them, where is it better to relax in Sri Lanka in the summer, description local resorts– you will find all this below.

South of Colombo to the town of Galle, there is a scattering of the best resorts in the south west coast Sri Lanka.

Negombo

Negombo was named " little rome”, there are so many temples in this city, decorated with beautiful stained-glass windows, frescoes, sculptures and ornaments. The city is also rich in other attractions, including natural ones. For example, a few kilometers from Negombo is famous nature reserve Muthurajawela.

The beaches deserve special mention. Unreal beautiful views, magical sunsets, pleasant and clean sand, the warm sea makes the inevitable parting with Negombo incredibly difficult for tourists.

Almost all best hotels located right on the coast, there are many quite comfortable and cozy guest houses. Tourists will not have problems with food. There are many restaurants in Negombo with plentiful and tasty food and low prices.

The only negative may be the quiet and measured course of life at the resort, but it will appeal to couples in love, seeking solitude, and parents who came to relax on the sea with children.

Bentota

Bentota is the pearl of resorts on the west coast of Sri Lanka and one of the most popular places For beach holiday. Here you can book a small guest house, and a room in a hotel of a large global chain - in a word, Bentota is more than open for tourists.

The best beaches are the main trump card of the resort. Long and wide coastal strip, fine and gentle sand, warm sea water attract lovers of swimming and sunbathing here. The waves, although not as strong as, for example, in Hikkaduwa, open up space for surfers and windsurfers, and bewitching undersea world win the heart of any diver.

Those who are looking for exotic and adventure can visit the Center aquatic species sports (by the way, the largest in Sri Lanka) or go on excursions, see with your own eyes the impressive local temples and the world's largest sculpture of a seated Buddha. And this, of course, is not all. The mysterious Tropical Art Nouveau Gardens, an exciting river safari, a trip to a turtle farm and many, many more surprises are waiting for you.

Despite all of the above, Bentota is considered quiet place, where it is good to relax, being alone with yourself and feeling harmony with the outside world. Perhaps this is the secret. have a nice holiday in this Sri Lankan resort.

Hikkaduwa

This popular the resort bears the unspoken name of the capital of diving if not the whole of Sri Lanka, then the west coast for sure. There is a beautiful coral reef, shipwrecks, and, of course, diving training centers. For lovers of diving the best place holiday in Sri Lanka.

However, holidays in Hikkaduwa are somewhat controversial. It's quite modern resort with a developed infrastructure - but there are no bounty-style beaches here either: hotels and other buildings came so close to the water and obscured nature. In Hikkaduwa, chic, strong and high waves, which delights desperate surfers - but little child it would be better here in the pool.

Hikkaduwa itself is poor in attractions, but for noisy and cheerful young people this resort has much more expanse than in Negombo or Bentota.

The west coast of Sri Lanka offers other resorts where you can go for a beach holiday.: Kalutara, Unawatuna, Wadduwa, Beruwala, Mount Lavinia, Tangalle, Galle.

East Coast

At first glance, the resorts of the east coast of Sri Lanka are not as diverse and numerous as the western ones. However, they have one common and important feature - a record low amount of rain for the country, even in the "off season". If on western resorts it is better to relax from November to April, then for a tour to the east you can also choose the “forbidden” monsoon time - from April to September.

Arugam Bay

Arugam Bay is an exotic and original Sri Lankan resort. His main feature is an incomparable flavor: small two-story hotels, picturesque sandy beaches and special customs. The vast majority of the local population professes Islam with all the consequences (modest and closed women's clothing, restraint in the use of alcohol, etc.).

Although the sea near the coast is shallow and children can safely splash in it, Arugam Bay still attracts surfers more than family tourists. The waves here are really steep - up to 2 meters high - so the resort organizes international competitions.

An interesting feature of Arugam Bay is seasonality. When it rains in other parts of the country, it is sunny and hot on local beaches. Therefore, when deciding which resort in Sri Lanka is better to choose for a vacation in the summer, first of all remember Arugam Bay.

Hambantota

Hambantota is not usually included in the list of popular resorts in Sri Lanka - it is a developing city with a modest infrastructure. There are few hotels and almost all of them are located on the coast, there is a small selection of cafes and restaurants.

But these not the most attractive conditions do not stop those who want to see the insanely beautiful ocean or outlandish Buddhist temples, visit or visit fruit plantations. And there are just a lot of such frills in Hambantota - to the great delight of connoisseurs of exotic and at the same time cultural recreation.

Passicuda

Passikuda is a relatively young beach resort in Sri Lanka, but it has almost everything you might need for a holiday:

  • sunny beaches with white sand;
  • inexpensive accommodation options guest houses, hotels);
  • calm and shallow sea near the coast, without strong waves and undercurrents;
  • a variety of leisure options (from boat trips to excursions).

The most popular activities here are snorkeling and boating. And you can also fly a seaplane over the resort and the beach and see the whole heavenly beauty from high. True, in order to eat, you will have to go to the hotel - there is no choice of restaurants as such. Passikuda will not indulge in shops - it is better to go shopping to neighboring cities.

A feature of some local beaches is coral sprouts and sharp shells, which you can accidentally step on with your foot. Therefore, tourists are offered to put on special slippers in advance (both on the beach and when entering the water).

All in all, this is a captivating and magical place. Here you can get rid of worries, fuss and noisy human flows. You can relax on Passikuda during a family vacation, it is also suitable for romantic trip, and even for a tour with friends - unless, of course, you don't mind spending time in peace and quiet.

Short review beach resorts Sri Lanka

Greetings, dear readers! Despite the fact that the island is surrounded on all sides by the ocean, and accordingly rich in beaches, here you need to carefully choose a resort.

Do not forget that the ocean is not a quiet lake, there are huge waves and waves that can nullify your vacation due to the inability to enter the water. Tourists planning to explore the beaches of Sri Lanka should carefully consider the choice of a resort.

Sri Lanka is an island in the Indian Ocean with a coastline of 1340 km. Although beach season here lasts all year round, due to climatic conditions it is better to go to the northeast in the summer months, and to the southwest in the winter. You can read more about the climate of the island.

There are many resorts in the southwest, almost all of them with good infrastructure. There are enough hotels different levels, not hard to find budget housing from local residents. In my opinion, you need to choose the beaches of Sri Lanka based on the season and the suitability of the resort to your desires.

Colombo and Negombo

Colombo and Negombo beach holidays are not at all suitable. It is good to stop here for a break before a long flight or during excursions. Because of the proximity big city, the ocean is dirty, nearby major metropolis with all the ensuing consequences.

Hikkaduwa

Hikkaduwa is perfect for young people and active tourists. Located 100 km from the airport, it has a good developed infrastructure. On Fridays, one of the hotels hosts noisy beach parties. Lots of accommodation ranging from expensive hotels and ending with cheap rooms. The coastline stretches for 10 km, but the waves here are very large, there is compressed yellow sand on the shore. Hikkaduwa beach guide, read.

Bentota

Bentota is a beautiful resort 65 from Colombo. Many package tours are offered here. The whole city is adjusted to the life of tourists, many cafes and shops, a large selection of accommodation. The coastline is very wide, the waves are quite strong. There are small calm coves, but it is difficult to find them right away. If you stay on the outskirts, then in the evening entertainment is limited only to the territory of the hotel.

beruwella

Beruvella is located five kilometers from Bentota, it is a young resort. Here they rest package tours Finding housing on your own is problematic. Beach holidays are the same as in Bentota, only a little less people and calmer. This is a favorite resort of tourists from Europe, there are expensive hotels. The coastline is very beautiful with coconut trees and white sand.

Unawatuna

Unawatuna is a small enclosed bay, perfect place for holidays with children. Very beautiful beach, shallow ocean, almost no waves. Everything you need for tourists is here, noisy parties do not happen. However, there are many people because budget holiday and bathable ocean.

Galle is not suitable for a beach holiday at all, it is sightseeing city. City beach with all the ensuing consequences.

Weligama

Weligama is a quiet resort place with a beautiful three-kilometer beach. However, the waves here are so strong that it is very difficult to swim. There is almost nothing for vacationers. Suitable for a secluded holiday and for surfers.

Mirissa

Mirissa - small town in the south of Sri Lanka. The infrastructure was built for tourists, but it is much quieter and calmer here than in Unawatuna. On central beach It is also very stormy, but there are small coves with calm water nearby. After nine in the evening there is no entertainment.

Dikwella is a small fishing town in Sri Lanka that has a couple of expensive hotels and some private housing. The ocean is very clear and the beaches are beautiful. You can find a place without waves. For a quiet, secluded holiday, there are almost no people here.

Tangalle - Big City in the south of Sri Lanka with a very beautiful beach, but swimming is not possible due to the strongest waves on the coast. The coastline is very long, you can always find a secluded place. There is no entertainment at all.

Koggala is not the most developed and popular resort Sri Lanka near Galle. A busy road runs along the coast, so you won’t be able to feel like on the Bounty Island, although along coastline and coconut trees grow. All life here takes place on the beach and main street where there are several shops and a bank.

Beaches in the northeast of Sri Lanka

Trincomalee

IN northeast region Sri Lanka is the opposite situation, there are few places to stay. There is only one main resort - Trincomalee. The infrastructure is also quite developed here, but it is located very far from international airport and it's not easy to get here.

Uppuveli, Nilaveli and Arugam Bay

There are a few more small villages– Uppuveli, Nilaveli and Arugam Bey (bay) but there is absolutely nothing there. However, magnificent beaches with white sand, attract tourists who prefer calm, quiet rest. Very comfortable to stay with small children. Not far from the coast there is a small coral island. It's easy to hit him locals For a fee, everyone is happy to deliver there.

Going on vacation to Sri Lanka, not all tourists realize that around the island - Indian Ocean rather than a calm sea. Here gorgeous beaches with coconut trees and clean white sand, but to fully swim in the ocean is possible only in small closed bays, which are very few here. Tourists often complain, having entered the water up to their waists, it is difficult to stand on their feet, the waves are so strong that even strong men are knocked down. Vacationers have to be content with walks along the coast and careful swimming near the coast.

How insidious the ocean is, I wrote separately - how I almost returned from the island as a widow, see. I recommend giving information to your men to read, the confession of the injured husband may make them think. What else a tourist needs to know before visiting Sri Lanka can be found in my article.

Perhaps you have your own story of visiting Sri Lanka, write a story under the heading "Readers' Travels". Read more about this. If the article was useful to you, share it with your friends in in social networks maybe they will also want to visit this island. Leave comments and subscribe to blog updates, new readers are always welcome. On this I say goodbye to you, I hope the information helped you when choosing a beach in Sri Lanka.
