The sun's rays breaking through the needles create an interesting play of chiaroscuro, which makes for beautiful photographs. Park meadows are covered with shrubs and trees from the wind, so it is cozy here even in the windiest weather.

Today, the territory of the park is about 100 hectares, of which half a hectare is occupied by flower beds, trees cover 60 hectares, and reservoirs - more than a hectare.

Popular sights of Palanga with photo

One of the historical sights of Palanga is the Tyszkiewicz Palace. Since 1824, the whole area of the future Palanga belonged to the family of the count. It was under their leadership that an inconspicuous wetland turned into a popular resort. The palace, built in 1893-1897, of course, does not look like medieval stone castles, and is intended not for royalty, but for Count F. Tyszkiewicz.

Previously, this place was an ancient wooden "fortress". Despite the height of only 2 floors, now it looks quite impressive - a snow-white building, made in the neo-Renaissance style, decorated with baroque elements. In the immediate vicinity there is a small chapel, which is connected to the main building by a special passage. It was erected around 1900, with a statue of Jesus Christ placed next to it.

The botanical garden in Palanga greatly decorates the area around the palace, in which, in addition to the usual ones, exotic plants are also planted. It was not destined to admire the beautiful estate for long, since it was pretty much destroyed during the First World War, and after the Second World War the estate was completely nationalized, which led to desolation.

People became interested in the palace only in 1963, when the Amber Museum was opened here, which works here to this day. Now the collection presented here includes almost 30,000 different items, and the exhibitions tell about all the stages of human interaction with this "solar" stone.

Since the Baltics are famous for their large amber reserves, there is another place associated with them - these are amber workshops. This is not surprising, since this sun stone began to be mined and processed here already in the 3rd century BC. Whereas to XIX century Palanga has become big industrial center for the processing of this stone.

Since 2003, workshops have been opened here, where you can see all the stages of the processing process and purchase your favorite product.

The Šliupas Manor allows you to get acquainted with the fate of an outstanding person, whose life was closely connected with this city. It was in this house, which is now a museum, that he lived for many years. A comprehensive education was received in Russia and the USA, in 1930 he returned to his native town, becoming its first burgomaster.

In addition to the personal belongings of Slupas, here you can learn a lot interesting facts and about Palanga. The museum itself opened in 1995, and most of the exhibits arrived in 2011.

What else to see in Palanga? tallest building in the city at 76 meters, and also one of the most famous, is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, located on Vytautas Street.

It was built relatively recently, at the beginning of the 20th century, in the Neo-Gothic style, so the building looks rather gloomy from the outside. Despite this, the interior decoration is luxurious, with old frescoes and important icons, as well as marble trim and silver altars. Today, the church is perfectly preserved, and is included in the number cultural monuments Lithuania.

Palanga for art lovers

After Lithuania gained independence, not many centers of contemporary art were formed here. One of these is the house-museum of Antanas Monchys, who is a famous sculptor born in Lithuania in the 20th century.

Despite the fact that he lived and worked in, he presented many of his works to the city. Sculpture is not his only hobby. Creativity has found its realization in various compositions, drawings, graphic works. Among the main materials with which the author worked are: amber, plastic, stone, clay, bone and wood.

Note: The main condition for the exhibition of his works, Antanas Monchys called the opportunity for everyone to learn art with the help of tactile sensations. This means that all works can and should be touched by hands.

Among not quite ordinary museums, one can single out the Museum of Dogs - the only exposition in the Baltics dedicated to these animals. The basis of the exhibition was a private collection of a Kusas couple. They started collecting figurines and various things related to dogs in 1991, and already in 2010 they opened the doors of their workshop to visitors.

Now there are collected about 3000 copies. For the most part, these are animal figurines made of ceramics, plastic, amber and other materials - there are 22 types in total. In addition, here you can find many decorative gizmos in the same spirit - caskets, magnets, watches, etc. Most of collection was donated by visitors. Now there are things from 35 countries of the world.

And, of course, a must-see is the Art Gallery. R. Savickas, which hosts exhibitions of works by contemporary artists.

Not so far from Palanga is the famous attraction throughout Lithuania - Trakai Castle, because in this area it is the oldest and largest fortress. The exact date of its construction is unknown, but there is reason to believe that it stood here already in the 14th century.

The undoubted achievement of the builders is the impregnability of the castle, which no one has conquered. But already in the 16th century, the significance of the fortress gradually faded away, and it became a place of exile and a prison. This leads to the gradual destruction of the structure. Its restoration lasted for a long time, starting from 1901 and ending in the 90s, when the building was restored to its former appearance.

Take into account: on the coast of the Baltic Sea, at some distance from the city, you can visit the Seaside Regional Park. The purpose of its creation is the preservation of local flora and fauna, as well as the protection of species listed in the Red Book.

It was established in 1992 and covers an area of 5,000 hectares.

For example, on Vytautas Street there is an old pharmacy known here, which has been operating here for more than 150 years. It was the first institution of its kind in Lithuania in the 19th century. Unlike today, before all the medicines were prepared right here.

Surprisingly, some of them are still sold, for example, an elixir of 27 plants called "999". True, the work of the pharmacy was still interrupted in 1940-1990, when the building was occupied by the NKVD department. Then it was restored in the spirit of the 19th century and the pharmacy was reopened. The building itself is also of architectural interest.
